Beyond our Space and Starlight - Chapter 5: Respites

It was 1 year, 4 months, and 11 days since they lost Shannon. 

Some days were better, some days it still felt like they were just stumbling on without her, adrift in space, coasting purely on momentum, mission to mission, with her shadows all around. 

She was still so present in the people around her, in Beatrice herself, in the things she did, the things she didn’t, the things she couldn’t… 

Beatrice and her sisters were in a clearing on an arid relay moon in what was only theoretically still Protectorate space. They’d just met up with Mary and, to their surprise, Ava as well. She’d gotten a haircut in the two months since they’d last seen her, a cute little chin-length thing she wore half-up, half-down, but everything about her presence was still unmistakable. 

Beatrice was already going over the odds of a confrontation — not great with her riderless, it would depend on what Mary would do — but that was just how her mind worked, how she was trained. It seemed unlikely this would devolve into an outright battle — for now at least…  

“I cannot believe you’re working with these people, Mary! What the fuck?!” Ava was still very much upset with the situation. 

“Language!”

“Don’t you fucking start with me Lilith!”

“Ava,” Mary tried again, a placating hand between them, “Put your gun away first, same to the rest of y’all.” 

There was a pause as everyone looked at each other. Beatrice was the only other person with a gun out, being riderless at the moment, Camila and Lilith had both summoned their blades. 

Beatrice was the first to put her weapon away, followed by Ava — who’s expression still made her displeasure very clear — then Camila, with Lilith only reluctantly dismissing her two-handed longsword when it was obvious she was the only one left and everyone was waiting on her. 

“Thank you.” Mary enunciated the words clearly, “Now how about you all tell me what’s going on and how you all know each other?”

ancient respect means that elven crafts are far more highly valued in orzammar than the rest of thedas. with the money and prestige mostly sapped away between gherlen’s pass and denerim by unscrupulous merchants, tabris is shocked to discover that anyone who’s anyone in the noble houses knows half the alienage’s craftspeople and merchants by name, including cyrion

a young tabris helped in the kitchen while cyrion worked as a servant in gorim’s father-in-law’s house, OR a young tabris was briefly apprenticed with gorim’s father-in-law smithing armour before he was forced to turn them away due to the human reaction. either way, gorim’s wife in denerim might be a cruel childhood bully or a true friend that tabris continued to sneak out of the alienage to see

Cherry Magic or Okd Fashion Cupcake…

OHHH Anon! Now this is a challenge! I fucking LOVE Cherry Maho and Cupcake! They're both such excellent series and magic aside they're basically the same thing in different fonts.

Both series feature such likeable and relatable characters. Adachi and Nozue are both so similar; both men keep their heads down and try not to venture out of their comfort zones. Nozue is def more popular than Adachi, but he still seems to have a ton of resentment for his own self like Adachi does. Both men lead lives where they feel unfulfilled, doomed to walk the same paths day in and day out.

Togawa and Kurosawa both seem to be superstars to their counterparts and yet both harbor years long crushes due to seemingly unimportant instances that left lifelong impacts on them. Like the reason I love both series is because they share the same content.

Togawa and Kurosawa are both gifted chances to get close to their long time crushes just by being themselves. I love how these normally calm and collected character malfunction at the slightest thing when it comes from Nozue and Adachi.

I love that both main couples are unproblematic too. Often times BLs feature one main who is really, really annoying up until a certain point but not Cherry Magic or Old Fashion Cupcake.

Also the way both series managed to display high levels of romance with little to no kissing says a lot.

I like that Cupcake manage to tell such a compelling story in such a short amount of time but at the same time I like that we got a sequel and send off to Cherry Magic. Choosing between these series is like choosing between my right and left arms.

If it absolutely came down to me choosing I'd have to say...........Cherry Magic, and I think it's because I've loved them longer, but I would totally cheat on Cherry Maho with Old Fashion Cupcake.

Overslept FOUR hours! Couldn't really practice my presentation anymore and left in a hurry just taking my laptop with me and my partner just literally saved my ass

The rush of adrenaline this gave me is unmatched. Running back home (in 34 degrees weather) and running back to campus while simultaneously trying to communicate brought out the best of me

#my life is a mess #no kidding #this was tough #like i literally went to bed at 3am telling myself I'd get up at 7 so i could go through the presentation a few times to practice #(because no i didn't do that before) #and i slept through SIX alarms! #jesus fucking christ #but it went alright #(idk if i ranted on here that I had to do all the work for the data collection and background research? probably #anyway she redeemed herself by taking the hardest parts to present and literally just being super well prepared for the presentation itself #while i was just a mess #) #but overall the prof didn't roast us as much as i expected and also he really complimented the structure #and the selected literature and the handout (all my work yayy) #so that made me feel better #but really #my partner did a fantastic job and she's my personal life saver now ahaha #sorry #still recovering #shut up amy #rambles

Five things that make me happy- that’s a tough one right now with the current state of the world and with a good chunk of things that used to make me happy no longer in my life, but here goes.

1. Bird watching. Feeding the backyard birds. Seeing their little faces everyday. Watching how they gather and what silly things they do around the yard. Having the sense that I’m helping them survive the wild a bit easier with the access to food at all times and seasons.

2. Photography- mostly nature and birds and other wild animals.

3. Crafting- making bead animals, coloring books, latch hook rugs, those lanyard key chains with the knots you have to make.

4. Writing - as hard as it’s been in the last 7 years since I gave it up as a potential career, doing it on the side and exploring more from the CSI characters and world has been helpful.

5. Running- I’ve only been able to run 3 miles without stopping so I usually do 1 or 2 miles a few times a week to try and maintain my health and possibly get stronger and just have an outlet for my troubles.
