And I'm petrified of being alone, now |
Part Two
Matty Healy x reader
Summary: She’s just trying to get by, really. What with being a single parent to her four year old son whilst simultaneously trying to kick start a successful career as a radio presenter. She’s got everything she’s ever wanted though, friends close by, a mum who’s merely a phone call away, and of course her baby boy. What else is there to wish for? But then, it’s not long before her relatively normal life gets upended and turned on its head, and she’s suddenly forced to deal with situations she’s never even thought to imagine.
What happens when one mention of a certain controversial singer on her show sends a flood of unexpected challenges her way?
Warnings: Use of French from someone's whose ability extends to that of the primary school level! Hints of past encounters with substance abuse, but not really.
Authors Note: Part two baby!! I'm really so glad that you all seemed to enjoy the first part of this and can only hope you'll like this one too! I can't believe I've actually decided to give this series a go, already onto starting part four! But I loved seeing all the reactions to it in truth and felt like I couldn't not. Hope you like it x

Coffee acquired and headed into the studio! Who’s looking forward to today’s show?? #MouseOnAMic
“Did you see it then!” Adi exclaimed breathlessly as soon as I trudged in through the loft door, not even giving me the chance to settle in and perhaps start on a brew before she was invading my personal space.
“Well, have you?”
I dropped my bag onto the settee and then followed suit by falling heavily into my favoured armchair, the yellow one which sat happily amongst the rest of the sitting area we’d first set up in the studio.
“Seen what?” I questioned Adi, the sigh I added muffled by the tired hand I dragged across the lower portion of my face, before I then knuckled the edge of my jaw.
It had been an extremely long morning, what with Teddy not having wanted to leave my side since waking up and then deciding to throw an massive all-mighty fit when I’d had to drop him straight off at nursery instead of Finn’s like usual.
Finn had actually gotten a last minute project thrown his way, one he hadn't been able to say no to, being an commissioned artist and all, which had resulted in him being unable to take Teddy off my hands like planned and me running more than a little late.
That, plus the trains had been a complete and utter nightmare!
Another strike was set to start soon and so the trains were in constant delay. Not that I blamed the workers specifically for it all, to each their own and all that crap. But still, it took me a half an hour longer to get into work this morning than it usually should have done.
I let my eyes slip close at the very thought of it, merely hoping for a moment’s peace, but then heard Adi sigh dramatically somewhere to the left of me, seemingly oblivious to the weary state I was already in.
She was growing impatient with me and I could feel a headache brewing, the steady throbs of it pulsing high in my temples. I noted then how much I was in dire need of a rather large coffee, or maybe even something stronger, but simply resigned myself to the knowledge that the headache would probably only worsen throughout the day, seeing as though I’d forgotten to grab my migraine medication out of the cupboard in my haste this morning.
I didn’t even get the chance to centre myself before a phone was being shoved into my face. Immediately, I blinked my bleary eyes open at the intrusion and winced at the onslaught of unexpected bright light it gave as I lurched as far back as the shoddy armchair would allow me.
“Christ, Ads.” I muttered, but the woman only persevered and I was forced to squint and try to make sense of the many words she was presenting to me on the screen of her mobile. My eyes widened in disbelief.
Without a second thought, I snatched the thing out of Ad’s impatient grip and straightened in my seat, reeling. “Shit.”

Drunken truths- or rather, tweets!
After yesterday’s whirlwind, caused by a recent segment on an up and coming radio show based in London, Mouse On A Mic, where the host shedded their honest opinion on the behaviour of none other than The 1975’s lead singer, Matty Healy, the online world has been divided. Since the show aired there has been a massive show of support for the presenter, many agreeing with the comments made, but also, and rather unsurprisingly, there has been the expected backlash from the band’s rowdy fanbase.
Mouse, a pseudonym used by the show’s host, managed to make it onto Twitter’s trending page in the early hours of yesterday evening, after the segment on the singer blew up, and it was there that many came to battle over the honesty of it all!
The award winning artist himself later touched upon it, hours after everything had actually occurred and some of the heat had died down, in a tweet of his own! In it Matty seemed to back the radio host’s claims, stating that we really should ‘listen to the radio’ and that he is an evident ‘liar’ as he’s been labelled many times before. He even went as far as to say that he was indeed very ‘sad’, which caused a mass hysteria of both confusion and emotion to spread throughout the media, some of it relating back to Healy’s previous stints in rehab and the many times he’s been caught in the firing line. Whilst others showed no sympathy at all.
No one from Matty’s band or team has yet to comment on it, but the tweet has since been mysteriously deleted! Our question is, where do we go from here?
“I know, right! How mad is this?” Adi gushed unabashedly as she threw her weight into the spinning chair beside my own. The wheels whined beneath her weight but Adi paid the noise no mind, either beyond used to the crappy furniture we’d procured since moving in or just too enthralled in the phone she’d since snatched back.
I figured it to be the latter.
“He was obviously so gone when writing it, but do you reckon it’s the truth then? That he’s probably getting shit for it right now?” She further queried, her voice filled with a childlike excitement that had me frowning.
“If so, why do you sound so pleased about it?” I shot back, tilting my head over towards her, “The whole thing’s more than a little messed up, Ads.”
Adi merely groaned at me in response, letting her head lull against the back of the chair before she then cast an exaggerated glance, a cheap look that clearly stated, ‘are-you-fucking-joking-me?’
I didn’t care much for it, in all honesty, and widened my own eyes in a mocking response, waiting for her to give me an actual answer.
“God, Mouse! Have you even seen the amount of subscribers the show has gotten since Healy’s tweet? We’ve already got a dozen calls lined up and we don’t even air for another hour!” Adi blew out excitedly as she pushed herself further up in her seat, the tight miniskirt which hugged her thighs rode up slightly but she made no move to tug it down, too caught up in her rant.
“We’ve gained over twenty thousand followers, babe! Twenty thousand! And it’s only grown since his tweet was deleted! Can you believe that?”
I scoffed. “It’s hardly something to be proud of, is it? Gaining traction off some guy who’s already got the world quick-firing at him. He needs help, not more fucking media attention. I mean, you said it yourself, he was clearly hammered whilst writing it.”
I got up to turn my back on her then, figuring it’d be best if I just got a start on setting up for the day seeing as we were already running behind.
In all honesty, I really could see what had Adi so ecstatic. The show had never received this much notice before and twenty thousand followers was a game changer for people like us. It would boost ratings and help garner the wider audience we’d been chasing for ages now. But I still felt guilty and was far from proud of the fact that we’d earned all of these so-called ‘followers’ off the back of somebody else’s torment.
Matty clearly had his demons, that much was evident. But in my opinion, he really didn’t need any more publicity. Especially on a topic which surrounded old habits and seemed so blatantly sensitive. At this point, I honestly wished I'd never opened my fat gob.
Messing about with the console, I silently wondered why I cared so much. Yeah the evident culpability was there, but the guy had it coming with the way he’d been acting. I’d just been doing my job. Right?
I withheld a frustrated sigh at the question, but then jumped an inch out of my skin when I felt a gentle touch brush against my shoulder, pulling me swiftly from my thread of chaotic thoughts.
Spinning around, I was met with the face of a guilt-ridden Adi, who’s glossy lips were pursed and deep brown eyes downcast.
“Sorry,” She said and then paused, “Didn't think of it much like that.” Her mouth twisted uncomfortably for a second before she finally smiled at me, clearly apologetic. “We should probably say something then, right? To the viewers?”
I dipped my head in a surprised nod before slouching into the booth’s chair with a defeated huff. “I mean sure, but what would we even say though? It’s all so fucked up. Thanks for following us but fuck you if you think we’re gonna chat shit about some band?”
Adi snorted, but her typical catty smile didn't quite reach her eyes, “Guess that could work. Sounds effective enough.”
I chuckled around a smile of my own, then hummed for a moment.
“Not really the big break we were looking for, is it?” I commented aloud, not really looking for a response. Then added, “You reckon he’s alright?”
“Who?”
A brief silence settled between us then as I scanned Adi’s bemused face, and she moved to settle against the edge of the table.
“Healy.” I murmured softly.
And Adi, apparently taken back by my answer, locked her jaw in thought before her eyes shifted towards something just over my shoulder. “I’m not sure.”

Mouse Updates! @/MOAMupdates 22m ago Highlights of today's show!
>Mouse Updates! @/MOAMupdates 21m ago Mouse opened up today's show with ‘an oldie’, in her words, and played 'Morning Glory' by Oasis which seemed to please a lot of us! She also asked how everyone was today, briefly mentioning her long morning.
>Mouse Updates! @/MOAMupdates 19m ago The first topic was based around the Kardashian's newest season and was brought up by a listener who had messaged the show. "F*cking old news! We should have gotten rid of that show ages ago, I really have no idea how people can just sit around and watch it all honestly! So much unnecessary- and clearly fake- drama going on. Just seeing the influence that it has on so many young girls, as well as how much time people are willing to spend on that entire family, is just something I can’t comprehend or get behind, but have been very conscious of. I'm so lost on what it is exactly that has people feeling so drawn to them. It's mental!"
>Mouse Updates! @/MOAMupdates 17m ago The show played this week's top 10 hits! Mouse making a very special shout-out to her son, who's current obsession is blasting Taylor Swift's new release through the speakers! (Don't worry, Mini Mouse, we're obsessed with it too!)
>Mouse Updates! @/MOAMupdates 14m ago The famous "Call Us!" segment makes a return this week! Mouse dragged Adi into the booth, as per usual, and the pair spoke to a few excited callers. The duo answered questions on the newest single’s out right now and what upcoming films they were excited to see! Adi even ended up calling out Ed Sheeran?! Of all people, after a fan phoned in to rant about their need for a new album!
>Mouse Updates! @/MOAMupdates 13m ago A competitive game of "The Impossible Quiz" broke out, which of course was won by our ever merciless Adi, and Mouse followed through on the losing dare! (Check it out on the Show's website to see! Link in bio.)
>Mouse Updates! @/MOAMupdates 11m ago Lead vocalist and guitarist to Only The Poets, Tommy Longhurst, Facetimed the studio to talk about his band’s newest single, 'Every God I Pray To'. He's been a fan of Mouse and Adi since his first appearance on the show about a year ago now with the rest of the guys and it was so great to see the three of them together again! They ended up doing a Fan Q&A (which is up on the show’s Youtube channel now!) before they played the single for everyone listening in.
>Mouse Updates! @/MOAMupdates 8m ago When Adi headed out of the booth, Mouse decided to touch on the topic of yesterday's show. This is what was said, "I just wanted to bring up what went down during the last show, as it- I don't even know at this point, really. It just spread like wildfire across social media and has since been taken a little out of context. The topic of Matty Healy did come up after he'd made a recent headline, having been pictured again after taking a couple weeks away from the spotlight whilst on tour. I gave my honest opinion on the subject, simply shared my thoughts, and I do stand by what I said at the time- as all our longtime listeners will already know! But with that being said, on this matter I do feel as though I probably should have held back a tad and bitten my tongue. I don't know Matty well enough to dub him as this or that, or to comment on his life choices- I've never even met the guy! But it is my job to speak out on current topics and I was just doing what I'm paid to do. (Cont)
>Mouse Updates! @/MOAMupdates 6m ago
"… Adi was actually the one to show me the tweet Healy sent out last night, as well as the incredibly insensitive articles that were paired alongside it, and I see now that it's caused a bit of drama and sparked a few more unwanted rumours for him. I feel largely to blame. To all the new listeners, I just want you all to understand that, here and now, I do not intend on milking this particular cow, and I won't be saying much more on the matter. I only hope that he’s doing okay. And Matty, if you are somehow listening, I really do apologise for all the shit I said and for the crap I've probably caused you since. It wasn't my intention for any of this to blow up, but you seem like a good sort, so. You're welcome on the show or at the studio anytime, no judgement here. Now! That's enough said on that topic, I’m-" And with that, Mouse soon moved onto wrapping up the show.

Messages 4m Finnleyyy Listened to the show on the drive home, you okay?
"Bonsoir, mon belle fille!"
I smiled softly at the warm and familiar sound of my mum’s voice, even through the phone it was always so tender, a massive reminder of home. Her accent was gentle but brought me an undeniable amount of comfort and reminded me of days spent just the two of us, stowed away in our tiny cottage by the coast.
Before I could even offer her a greeting in reply though, the soft smile I wore immediately brightened upon having a much smaller figure settle down onto my lap to grab at the screen.
My mother laughed when a set of familiar eyes and chubby cheeks took up the tiny box in the tophand corner and I couldn't stop myself from chuckling along quietly with her when Teddy greeted her buoyantly.
“Mémé!” Teddy exclaimed happily, full of excitement as he proceeded to crawl closer to the camera, all knees and elbows whilst he tried to better see his grandmother.
I honestly really did try to stifle every groan that wanted to escape me as he went, but I must've looked pained because I didn't miss the flicker of mirth that glossed the older woman’s ageing eyes once Teds had finally settled.
"Bonjour chérie! How have you been? Behaving, I hope." My mum spoke, her sharp gaze lingering on me for a second longer than necessary before she finally shifted her full attention back onto her already babbling grandson.
I let the two of them chatter back and forth for a while, tired from where the day’s antics had worn me down, but still listening quietly as I focused on my mum’s sweet smile.
It was days like these that I wished I could do more than simply phone her. I wanted to walk through the front door after a long walk by the harbour and see her standing in the kitchen. I wanted to hug her and smell the same flowery perfume she’d worn since I was Teddy’s age. I wanted to lay on the grassy fields which sat behind our cottage and talk about nothing until the sun finally set.
But just seeing her face would have to do, for now.
"So you have been good for your maman, non?" I heard my mum ask, and all of my problems suddenly seemed so trivial at that moment, especially in comparison to the beaming grin Teddy gifted the woman as he nodded his head vigorously in response.
I raised a hand to run my fingers through the toddler’s hair, fingertips tucking stray stands behind his tiny ears. "He's been fine- well, we had a little tiff this morning, didn't we Teds?" I alluded to and then laughed, closed mouthed and breathy, at the way Teddy's head snapped up to gape at me. "When a certain someone didn't want to leave the flat..."
Teddy's lips curved into an unhappy frown at my words and his eyebrows dipped to show how displeased he was with the fact that I had ratted him out. To his grandmother of all people.
I snorted to myself.
“Oh is that so?” Came my mum’s voice and Teddy’s eyes widened at her tone. Immediately the little boy whipped his head back around so that he could pout in the direction of the camera.
"No!" Teddy tried and I snickered, which only seemed to earn me a narrow-eyed scowl in retort. I had to, quite literally, chew at my bottom lip to hide my amused grin then. "I just tired, mémé! Need sleep! And Fin say no come over t'day. Gots to work. And I was sad."
“Ah, I see! So you were in a mood.” My mum hummed, eyes twinkling now. “And here I thought you adored mornings, Teddy! Or has it just been too long since you last visited me?” She gave me a pointed glance then, one I knew all too well.
Teddy, oblivious to his grandmother’s unsubtle attempt at chiding me, sat up straighter to once again grab at the phone I held. I sighed in reluctance but let him have it, trying not to linger too long on thoughts of grubby fingerprints and a broken screen.
Only recently had I had the stupid thing upgraded, not long after Teddy had violently destroyed the last one. The horrified expression of the young worker I’d shown it to in the shop still haunted me to this very day, as well blu-tack and parcel tape which had been the only two things holding the phone together.
"I do, I do!" Teddy rushed to reassure the woman, bouncing to further accentuate his point. I settled a hand on his shoulder to still him, grimacing lightly at the way his knee had suddenly been forced into my lower stomach. "Mornin’ I'm good! Mum makes soldiers like you! An' I see an'mals in the park when we walk to Finny's."
"That sounds like fun, mon cœur, and I'm excité to hear more, but that does not explain your tantrum." The older woman replied, and I felt the moment Teddy slumped against my chest, eyes downcast. "Alors pourquoi?"
Teddy shrugged silently at her, chin tucked into his neck. I tried to bite back my smirk and my mum gave me a sharp look for it, but it did nothing to dim the mirth I felt. Actually only encouraged me further, enough that I had to angle my face away.
The one thing I loved most about living in London was the fact that my mum could only scold me through the phone.
"Just didn't wanna leave, mummy." Teddy admitted, rather sheepishly in fact, which instantly caught my attention. But before I could get a word in edgeways, my mum was already there, saving the day. Like always.
"Edward. Your maman is there for you whenever you need her! You call and she will come running."
Her voice was gentle, face full of concern and assurance, so much so that I had to suck in a tight breath.
"Has there ever been a time that you have needed her and she wasn't there?"
Teddy shook his head, woeful eyes trained on the screen now, and I couldn't stop himself from wrapping an arm around him, desperate to have him closer. Teddy went without fuss and leant into the familiar gesture, resting his head against the small crook at my neck.
"See? She’s so wonderful, so very good to you, and she can only do her best, comprendre? So when she is not with you, when you are with Finn or at the nursery school with all your friends, she is working hard to make sure you have a happy life. It doesn't mean she loves you any less, chéri."
"And I do love you, Teddy." I added thickly, chin buried in Teddy's hair, "So, so much."
"I know. Just miss you."
My heart constricted tightly in my chest when Teddy tilted his head far back enough to peer up at me, his long lashes brushing against the line of his brow. I leaned in closer to press a kiss into his nest of messy curls.
“Miss you too, little man. Always. Things are never any fun without you around.”
"Really?" Teddy gasped loudly, as though he'd just that second heard that the Amazon rainforest had upped itself and decided to invade the UK.
"Big time." I faintly whispered, smiling when Teddy's face lit up.
He turned then, far too quickly for my liking, his entire mood having shifted upon hearing those simple words. "You hear mummy, mémé! You hear?"
"Oui, oui, chéri!" My mum replied with the same amount of emotion, tittering quietly to herself as she observed Teddy's catching excitement, "So lucky to have her, non?"
Teddy nodded vehemently and I just rolled my eyes at the pair, half in exasperation and half fondly.
"I think it's the other way around, I'd be beyond lost without this little monster." I quickly countered, tickling Teddy's sides and then laughing when the toddler squirmed in my hold, unable to escape.
"Stop! Stop!" Teddy pleaded in a fit of hysterics as I continued my attack. "Help, mémé! Tell!"
"D'accord, d'accord!" Came my mother's merry laugh, seemingly coming to Teddy's rescue even though she was more than two hundred miles away. "Le laisser. My poor baby!"
I relented but only pulled away once I had smattered a sloppy trail of kisses down my baby's flushed cheek. Teddy whined unhappily at the invasion and wiped lazily at his face with the back of his hand whilst I simply laughed.
"Silly babies." My mum scoffed without any heat, her smile radiant.
She looked just about ready to say something else but Teddy was already twisting in my lap. "Hafta go loo." He divulged to me in a not-so-quiet whisper, wriggling in his seat now with a strained smile.
I blew out a breathy chuckle in reply and immediately pulled the phone from his grasp, placing it on the arm of the settee so that I could swiftly pick him up and plop him down onto the floor. I nodded my head in the direction of the hallway and Teddy hurried on, but not before he kissed the phone screen goodbye.
I returned to the sound of my mother's sweet laughter.
"Je jure, il est une bénédiction."
My mouth pulled up at one side whilst I lightly shook my head. "A menace, more like."
"Ah! Do not speak ill of my gorgeous grandson!" My mum was quick to retort, wagging a finger at me, and even down the phone she could make menacing work. "He is magnifique, made up of all your best parts!"
I simply snorted in turn, rolling my eyes as I let my head fall back against the settee cushion. "I don't have enough of those to configure an entire being, even one that small."
It was my mum’s turn to snort then.
"Don't make such jokes." She scoffed, waving me away, "They forever fall flat.” Ouch. “You are beautiful, my love. Anyone with eyes can see that, and Teddy is so lucky to have you as his mother."
I couldn't really bring myself to reply then, instead I inhaled slowly and let my eyes slip close. It had been another long and tiring day, but then again, most days had me at the brink of exhaustion, in truth.
"Joli, talk to me." The woman murmured softly, her voice rang out into the now empty room, rousing my attention back to the phone. "I can see how tired you are, amour."
With another deep breath, I tried to give her the best smile I could muster. "I'm fine, mam. You don't need to worry so much."
My mum scoffed again, rolling her eyes with it.
"It's my job to worry about you! And you make it so much harder when you do not tell me what is going on. With you so far away, I can do nothing but call and pester until you talk to me!"
I sighed distractedly and raised a hand to rub at my cheek. I knew that she had a point, understood that she was always there whenever I needed her, but it was so hard to allow her that intimacy. She had spent the majority of my childhood caring for me, constantly worrying and fretting, so much it still often made me feel like a burden.
Moving to London had meant to be a fresh start for us both, somewhere far enough that I could give her the much needed space away from me and my many issues. But then I'd gone and cocked everything up by getting myself pregnant, and I’d only made things worse for us when Teddy had come along. It had taken weeks for me to finally admit to her just how terrified I had felt. How desperate I’d been for help.
But not once had she complained about my ability to open up, or lack thereof. Deep down, I knew that she probably understood my inner torment, my desperate need to not be a bother, but it didn't make anything at all easier.
Thoughtlessly, I threaded a hand through my hair, already feeling the knowing tell of a migraine that was starting to form just behind my eyes. I made a quick note to take something for it before I went to bed, otherwise I would be in utter hell come tomorrow morning.
And as I carefully mulled over the words that dizzied my mind, thinking on my mum’s own, I thought back to the last few days, about how hectic everything had been.
“Just a bit mental at work.” Was what I settled on, but couldn't quite stop myself from huffing as I knuckled at the inner corner of my eye. “I said something on the show that I probably shouldn’t have, and next thing I knew it was all over the news. Headlines and everything, can you believe that?”
Still in disbelief over it all, I just shook my head.
“I saw nothing. It wasn't anything bad, was it, should I start worrying?” My mum pestered with a telling expression, because we both knew just how quickly my mouth could get me into trouble. We’d had one too many experiences tucked under our belts with that, but what can you do really?
Instantly I waved her worries off, laughing lightly, “No, nothing too extreme. Well, not anything too vulgar or offensive, just shared an opinion on this guy.”
“Souris,” My mum dragged out the nickname lowly, a warning or maybe a plea, telling me not to add anything stupid to the rest of my explanation. “S'il te plaît. Do not tell me you said anything rude.”
I shrugged, “Not really.”
“Not really?” She quickly retorted, utterly exasperated it seemed as a hand flew hurriedly through the air. “Not really, she says!”
I had to muffle the snort I made in my palm, “I’m telling the truth!”
I blew out a breath and started to toy with the frayed hem of my jumper's sleeve, peering down at it. “Just, I’d been asked to talk about this one singer- Matty Healy, you might know him? From that one band.”
My mum merely blinked at me, before she ultimately shook her head, the name not ringing any bells.
I wondered, very briefly, whether that was a first for Healy.
“Well, I- I ‘spose I made an assumption on air, spoke before thinking really-”
“The usual.”
Barreling on, I ignored the sly dig of her interruption, “And probably didn't hold back. Apparently he has a rather large fan base though and a few of them heard what I’d said online, started talking about it. No wait, arguing is probably the better word.”
“Oh mon Dieu. Please don’t tell me you started arguing with these people! It’s not good for the show, for you! And what of Teddy, what if he hears the gossiping?”
“Maman, you sound almost as bad as me!” I chuckled, unable to hide my amusement at her worrying, “Stop assuming!”
She clucked at me in return, then signalled for me to continue with a roll of her eyes.
“See, the singer, well he must have ended up hearing it all because he replied to us on Twitter.” I revealed, peeking up to garner her reaction. “Reckon he was probably a bit drunk when he did though, and ended up admitting that what I’d said was mostly truth.”
My mum worried at her lower lip, letting a silence stretch between us before she broke it with a faint hum, “What else happened? Did you reply?”
“I spoke out about it a little more on today’s show; apologised.” I answered with a one-armed shrug, voice much quieter now. “But I don't know, I felt horrible. And I've never even met the man!”
“Try not to stress too much. I’m sure it will all work out. Besides, you have bigger things to fret about, like whether or not you’re coming to see me for Noël.”
I beamed at that, but still had to shake my head at her incessance. The woman really did have a way of rationalising everything though.
Just as I was about to add to that, I stilled and my eyes flickered up to the notification that had just come through at the top of my screen. An email. It wasn't too unusual to be receiving one this late, I supposed, and so I squinted my eyes at the notification box as I let my soft chuckles die out.

May the best hero win!
[Dick Grayson x GN!Reader x Jason Todd]
Tumblr media
Plot: what happens when two batboys have a crush on the same person? Chaos. Petty Chaos.
Note: more storyline based on my OC that I'm too nervous to share with. The reader has a hero name called 'incognito'
Tumblr media
It was supposed to be a regular night. A typical run down of the latest mission in Gotham. But we are talking about the Wayne Family here, or should I say the batfamily, there is nothing 'normal' or 'typical' about them.
Instead of going to collect the Intel from their reliable source, like they are supposed to do, Nightwing(Dick) and Red Hood(Jason) are fighting each other on top of a rooftop. With Red Robin(Tim), the signal(Duke), Spoiler(Steph), and Robin(Damian) watching them from another rooftop and taking bets on who will win the fight. While the black bat(Cass) goes off and completes the mission.
How did we get to these events? Well, things first started earlier in the night. Batman contacted the members of his family to gather inside the Batcave for their briefing before patrol, "we have received Intel earlier in the month that shipment of a new drug is coming to Gotham in the coming week." Batman stated while pulling up the required information on the back computer.
"A new drug?" Nightwing asked, "I ain't heard anything about no new drug." Red hood said with a mad tone, his regular tone. "That's because it's technically not new." Red Robin pulled up articles and reports from his wrist computer to the bat computer for everyone to see. "It's originally a chemical used in medicine but somebody decided to use it as a base for a new drug. There have been huge reports of it in Chicago, Detroit, and Baltimore. Recently, there's been rumors of it spreading to Gotham and now it's have been confirmed."
"The problem now is we don't know where the shipments is being dropped off." Batman said, changing the info on the screen to a photo of three men. "That has only been shared privately with these men only. But we have a double agent that was able to get the location for us and going to give it to us at the usual location on top of the Lincoln bank building. " He concluded his small speech with his back to the group because he doesn't want to see their faces of annoyance from them.
"The agent is . . . . Incognito. " "UUGGGGHHHH!"
Now hearing those groans you would think that they hate or can't stand the person called 'incognito'. Quite the contrary, they love them and consider them as an extended family member. What actually causes those groans were the two guys that like incognito some much more than everyone else. So much they turned it into a petty competition.
"I'll go" "I'll go"
They both turned toward each other when hearing each other voices and glare at each other. Those glares were signs to everyone around them that this was going to all night. Especially when Duke uttered the words "not this again."
"Don't you have to be bludhaven right now? Dick. " "Don't worry about that, Jay. I settled things before coming over. What about you, huh? Shouldn't you be covering crime alley or hanging out with the outlaws?" Dick smirks at his brother's poor attempt at jabs. "Just got done with a mission, dick head. " "Then you must be tired. I'll do this little info collecting-" Jason interrupted dick with a finger shoved in his face. " Don't give me that crap. You talked to them last time. Im going this time!" " Come on Jason. I'm just looking out for you. You don't think straight when you're around them." "Better than you. At least I think with my brain here" He points at his head, "and not the one down here." Jason grabbed his private part in a vulgar manner, which got a reaction out of dick. Pissed off. He was about to retort back but he was stopped by hearing Bruce scream at them both, "Enough! " which grabbed their attention. Jason still grabbing his. . . Little hood.
"Both of you going to the meeting point, then. Whoever gets there first can collect the information. I don't care who does it, just go!" Bruce yelled at them. They both stood there for awhile before Jason run towards his motorcycle screaming 'I'm getting there first!' With Dick on his tail also screaming, 'No you won't. '
~~☆~~
That's how we got to where we started. They raced thru the city using their personal own shortcuts until they bump into each other on top of an apartment building. Both felt they won't get their private moment they wanted with the double agent of their dreams, they decided to fight the other. First one down on their back, wins.
At first simple sparring quickly turns into a full-on brawl. Going at each other for at least an hour. Neither holding back on the other. While throw petty insults at each other too.
"Dickhead"
"Blowhard"
"Man slut"
"Zombie"
They took so long on this fight the other kids stop their patrol to watch and place bets. Jason was getting the winning votes.
It looks like the fight could go on forever since neither one looks like stopping anytime soon but a certain stop them in their tracks.
"Got it." They both turns towards the voice to see black bat with a piece of paper in her hand. "Got what exactly? " Dick asked with his hand on Jason's jacket, tight in his fist. "The location. It's the docks." She jump away from the two and probably back to the big bat. Everyone else follows her, forgetting the other two men.
Hearing they lose their chance, they let each other go and awkwardly stand beside each other. Their stupid fight got in the way. They missed the person who stole their affection. All because of their petty fighting. Hopefully this would be a lesson for them both to stop this -
"First one back, can meet them on the next meet up"
"You're on. Don't blame me when you lose. "
*sigh* nevermind. They're hopeless

"I knew you were black" , chapter 1
warning: Spanish may be wrong, Cursing
A/N: This took a long time bro. Someone told me I should write this. Leave feedback please, only my second fic.
2k words Below the cut
Italics are in Miles Head
< Prev //Next >
Tumblr media
Miles was tired. He wanted nothing more than to lay in his bed, and go to sleep. But of course, he couldn't do that. He has to come back after patrolling the city, and study for a test. You would think the person who saved the entire universe, could at least be exempt from the semester exam. No such luck. Granted, nobody knew he was spiderman, but the principle of things should still apply. Exhausted, Miles opened his window and slipped into his room.
Quite literally.
Hitting his head on the bedpost, Miles saw stars.
"Ay dios mío". Getting up, Miles tried to straighten himself which was hard to do since it felt like his head was swinging without him.  he just stood for a couple of minutes, hoping to regain his balance.
Pulling off his mask Miles looked over to see his roommate in bed, sound asleep. Which was exactly what he should have been doing. Instead he was unnecessarily injuring himself.
"At least I don't have to hear him play video games while I work", Miles said, seemingly to himself. But he had only gotten his suit halfway off before he heard the covers shifting around.
"Look bro, sorry for waking you up but I really have to study, so if you could maybe chill on the video games for one night."
"I knew you were black. "
"Dude, I'm actually mixed and-". Miles turned around, ready to get this over with so he could just do his work, and go to sleep. Miles however, was not ready for the random girl standing in the middle of his room.
Silence
"Sorry about that i shouldn't have assumed-"
Miles couldn't hear you. He was low-key panicking. How did he not notice you were in here? He wasn't that tired. You could have been an enemy. Were you an enemy? No, his Spidey-senses would have alerted him if you had been there to hurt him. And how could he possibly hear your voice and think you were Ganke? Ganke isn't a girl, nor does he have that accent. Agh all these questions.
Who were you?
How did you get in here?
Where's Ganke Lee?
Why has he never seen you before?
Why were you on the boys side of the dorm?
Were you a boy?
Can boys be that pretty?
Why are you so pretty?
How does your hair look so good?
Where did you get those boots?
Where did you get that accent from?
Where are you from?
Is there a boyfriend where you're from??
What?
Miles didn't know what to do. And you were still here. Just staring at him. Or back at him. Since he was staring at you. Crap, now you're gonna think he's a weirdo. What do I do?
Just do something and stop thinking so much.
You watched him warily, as he slowly started moving his arm towards you. Was he trying to… grab your… shoulder??
No, what are you doing? Not this again. Well, it too late now.
Miles placed his hand on your shoulder, looked you in your eyes, and said,
"Hey😏"
Silence.
Complete and utter silence.
And then you laughed. And you smiled while you were laughing. As most people do. But, most people don't look that beautiful when they laugh. And most people laugh at Miles, but most people don't make it seem so friendly.
"Howdy🤠" you said back to him. Howdy?? The only time he had heard anyone say 'howdy' was when Jevon (I made up some random kid), dressed up as a cowboy one Halloween.
"Why are you here?". Dammit Miles, what was that? Before he could correct himself you had already started talking.
"Well dadgum, you can't even ask me my name first?" You told him, Looking more than a little offended.
dadgum?? What is a dadgum??
"Sorry, I'm Miles". He held his hand out to you watching your face as he did. You seemed to consider it for a moment, before meeting his eyes, and taking his hand.
"Nice to meet you , I'm [Name]". Even though you were obviously annoyed, Miles still smiled to himself. Your accent was so cute.
"Oh umm, Thank you, I think." Thank him?? Why were you thanking him??
"Most people think my accent is weird". Oh, he said that out loud? Idiot. Jeez, he had to find a way to get you out of here so he could do…something…. he forgot.
Gosh, his head was all jumbled up, he couldn't focus with you around.
"You're welcome, beautiful." ¡Híjole!. I just can't control myself tonight huh.
"Oh", you looked away from him. Now I made her uncomfortable, dammit. How do I fix this?
"Sorry I didn't mean it". Mierda. He didn't mean that.
"Oh…", now you seem disappointed. What the hell.
"No wait, I didn't mean that! Well I did but-"
"Well you need to make up your mind, did you mean it or not?". Now, you were getting angry, and he could see it. In your face, eyes, body language. There was no confusion this time.
You would think after all this time being spiderman, he would be better at talking to women. But obviously all his confidence did not transfer to his love life. He was still a hot mess.
"I'm sorry. What I meant to say was, I thought that, but it wasn't my intention to say it out loud."
"Oh." You said. he could tell you didn't know how to respond, but he also saw you visibly relax, so he just said.
"Yeah."
With both of you unsure of what to do next, the atmosphere became awkward. Again.
With the sudden silence, Miles remembered how odd the situation was, and the fact that he was supposed to be working on his physics assignment. Along with the fact that you were in his room, and Ganke was missing, he had to address the fact that you knew he was Spider-Man. What was he gonna do?
"So how bout them cowboys??". You had broken the silence with the most odd question.
"You mean like, the football team?". Miles was so confused, why are you asking him about football?
"Yeah, um it got awkward in here, and I didn't know what to say"
".....So you asked me about football?"
"Well where I come from, when things get awkward, football always starts a conversation, and most of the time an argument, but at least everybody's talking."
"So you like the cowboys?"
"Hell no",
your voice deadpanned. You were so serious you would have thought, the cowboys had personally sent you an email saying "fuck you [Name]".
Miles couldn't help laughing at that, you asked him about a team you don't even like, just to start a conversation with him. And honestly, it was interesting. It has been a long time since he had felt this open with somebody. He didn't even have to hide the fact he was-.... Damn.
"Not to be rude or anything, but you never did answer my question earlier? The one about you being here?"
"If you're asking me where I'm from, then you'll just have to wait an' see. If you were wondering why I was in your room, then to be frank with you, I really don't know."
That was…suspicious.
"I just transferred here, and I was supposed to be shown around by somebody named 'Miles Morales'," she told with a pointed look at me. I remember that my dad signed me up to be a student ambassador. He hoped involving myself in the school would make me like it better. I look at her sheepishly and shrug my shoulders.
"Anyway, with this mystery man seemingly nowhere to be found, they called his roommate to get some to the bottom of things, who swore his roommate was terribly sick with a 24hr stomach bug, and was stuck on the toilet."
"Bruh." Miles sighed, rubbing his hand down his face in a slow manner. Of course Ganke would say something like that.
Amused, you continued on with your explanation.
"But it was all okay because he was going to take ,'Imodium AD' and would be fine in about an hour. So the administration allowed Ganke to escort you to your room, and so I could at least meet you, because you're supposed to be showing me around all week."
All week??? I mean, it wouldn't hurt to be at school more. It gave him time to catch up on all his work, instead of cramming everything the night before the due date. And hanging out with you wouldn't be so bad
"Funnily enough, when we arrived, I was informed by your kind roommate, that he had absolutely no idea where you were, or when you would be back. And refusing to show me to my room because that 'wasn't his job', I was welcome to stay here, as long as I didn't bother him. Then we proceeded to play overwatch, and Apex all day. When you came in I had fallen asleep, and Ganke had left to shower, and get snacks."
Oh. Now he felt bad. You had just traveled cross country, to a new place, all by yourself. You were probably just as tired as he was.
"Well, I'll take you back to your dorm now, I can show you around tomorrow, it's kinda past curfew." He said, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Okay that's cool". Grabbing your suitcase, purse and books, you moved toward the door. "I'll just wait for you outside".
Wait? Outside? Why were you waiting?
Hand on the knob, ready to exit, Miles froze. Right, he was still in his spider suit. And it occurred to him you had been standing in his room while he was half naked the whole time. ¡Caray!
He had made a real fool of himself tonight. He wouldn't be surprised if you went to the office tomorrow and asked for another ambassador. Whatever, he would just enjoy walking you to your dorm, and hope for the best. Right after he changed his clothes.
Meeting you outside Miles he grabbed your suitcase and start walking.
"Your room is this way" he said looking back at you.
"Well I figured that, since we agreed that's where you were taking me", you said following behind him, jokingly rolling your eyes.
Smiling Miles looked at you.
There was that silence again. But this time it wasn't awkward. It felt comfortable. It must have meant you were warming up to him. It was the perfect opportunity to learn more about you. So, he did.
✼  ҉  ҉  ҉  ҉  ҉  ҉  ҉. ✼
Closing the door to his room Miles remembered how exhausted he was. He looked over to see the real Ganke Lee sound asleep. Deciding to do his assignment tomorrow, Miles got in the bed. Mind and heart still racing from what you said when he dropped you off.
'Well this is you'
'Oh well thank you Miles I enjoyed this little gathering. If that's what it's called'
'Yeah whatever it's called'
'Sleep tight'
'Don't let the bed bugs bite'
And there was that laugh again. Still as beautiful as it was before
'Goodnight Miles,'' See you in the Mornin'
He forced himself to stop thinking about it. Stop thinking about the way you said little gathering, but it sounded like 'lil' gatherin'. Or the way you smiled at him when you said it, implying that you would keep him as your ambassador. That you still wanted to see him.
Gosh, he needed to rest. Miles turned on his chill playlist, and calmed down. Let the music control him, and ease his thoughts away, along with the rhythm. Soon, Miles was peacefully sleeping. A very calming contrast to the panic that would set in that next morning. When he remembered you, and that beautiful laugh. It would be followed by his desire to hear it again, and the drop in his stomach, when he realized you knew his biggest secret.

The weather hasn't changed much since you left, there's still a rainy drizzle in the mornings. The school bus stops just up the street from here, they haven't fixed the crack along the sidewalk. I'm not sure that you ever cared enough to learn the neighbors' names, but Anna says she hopes you like Seattle. I hope you've gotten everything you wanted. There's more space in the basement now, without your boxes filling up the shelves.

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
Still covered in nothing but sheets, Bucky was sleeping in your arms by the time you woke up. Little snores were coming out from his mouth. You smiled at the fluttering sound and planted a small kiss on the top of his head. You laid there listless, legs still shaking from what happened last night, and mind still clouded by Bucky's past.
Peter's annoying coffee bean grinder started filling your ears. They echoed against the apartment walls. You internally groaned at the sound. You looked on your right to take a peek at the small gaps between the curtains and the window. It was still quite dark out, the sun almost waking up. The time on the clock read 6:00 in red blinking lights. You let out a sigh. Peter hated mornings, more than Garfield hates Mondays. The only logical explanation of him getting up early in the morning and making loud, annoying noises with that old grinder was that he didn't sleep through the night or he woke up too early with too many things in his mind. You wanted to choose the latter. If he didn't get to sleep last night, there was a tiny chance he could've heard you and Bucky — might've even walked right in the middle of a very heated, wild sex between his best friend and his stepbrother, seeing as you stupidly left the door unlocked (by this time, you were already out of bed, your naked body wrapped with a cheap bathrobe you've had with you since your college days).
You made a mental note to yourself to lock the door all the damn time, now that you and Bucky were being careful.
Last night might have not been the best thing you've ever done but it sure felt so good.
You stepped out of your room and approached the kitchen. Peter had his back on you and was just getting a filter paper from the top shelf.
"Good morning, Peter Parker." You said, earning a genuine shock from your best friend. Your voice came out groggier than you'd expected.
He turned around, a filter paper in his hand. "Jesus, y/n Don't sneak up on me like that!"
"Sorry," you replied, "but it's six in the goddamn morning and you've probably woken up the whole building with your grinder."
He went back on his filter paper, placing it inside the coffee machine. That was probably the most expensive thing he'd ever gotten himself. "I ran out of coffee grounds. I had to make them."
You stayed quiet for a while, leaning against the counter and watching Peter pour the grounds into the filter. You watched as he smoothed the grounds with his finger. After a while, he placed both his hands on the edge of the counter, looking at the coffee drip. The whole time, you prayed to God Bucky didn't stir or make any noise in the bedroom. Thankfully, he didn't. He looked like he would be sleeping for a while, anyway.
Biting your lip, you walked to where Peter was standing and stood beside him. You waited for him to say something — anything about any noises he must've heard from last night but there weren't any. If he did, you'd be dead. You and Bucky would be dead.
Moments have passed. The coffee machine whirred on the table. The coffee pot was almost full. The dull kitchen smell was replaced by the inviting coffee aroma. Then, you found my voice
"I'm not sorry for taking the job, Peter." You started, your voice weak, barely a whisper. "I need it. But I am sorry for not appreciating you and your efforts to help me with my career. You have to know that. It's just... you know I feel about the corporate life — "
"I know, y/n." He cut you off. His gaze was now off the coffee maker but at the tiled wall in front. "I'm sorry for reacting that way. I was just tired from the trip." He faced you. A somber look crossed his face. Even if he was, just as he put it, "tired from the trip", you knew he was still hurt. And the more you looked at his baby-like face, the more you wanted to tell him about you and Bucky. You stifled yourself from doing so in your head.
Baby steps, y/n. Baby steps.
"I am proud of you." He stated. "I always have been. I hope you know that."
"Of course I do, Parker." A smile started to settle on your lips.
"It's one of the reasons why I want you to come work in the company. You've got a business degree, and you're a good photographer. And I'm proud of that. But," he paused, "I don't want to upset us both — especially you — by forcing something on you that you clearly don't want. If you're happy, then I'm happy. That's what matters, y/n."
That was a good opening, right? Usually, that was it: the perfect time to tell him that you were dating Bucky. If I'm happy, then he's happy. End of discussion. But things that don't go as planned also usually don't end up as well as you'd hope. After that, all you could utter was:
"Thank you. I am happy."
"And I trust Sam and Bucky."
You nodded, shying away at the mention of your lover.
Trust. It truly was a big and powerful word. The more you looked at Peter, the more the word "trust" started to blur all around him.
You shook your head, dissipating the thoughts swarming in your mind. "I'm starting today, by the way." You said.
"That's great, y/n." He replied. "And who knows, maybe you'll get bigger clients after this. I know Sam has a lot of connections when it comes to independent business owners. Bucky too! He probably knows a lot of models. Maybe he can help you with it, y'know? I mean, he's already helped."
"Maybe. Let's see." By this time, Peter was already pouring the coffee in his favorite mug. The words "Bucky" and "model" weren't sitting right with you. Was it a hint of jealousy on my end?
"Oh, how's it going with Wanda, by the way?" You asked, stirring the question in a different direction. Albeit liking that Peter was warming up to the idea of Bucky helping you, you didn't want to further the topic anymore as it was making you all shake up.
"She's coming in for a meeting today as well, actually. I really hope it goes well. This is the biggest account we've landed."
"That's good." You replied, nodding. Hoping that she wouldn't get Sharon Carter'd during the meeting. But then again, she was Wanda Maximoff — already known for her unremarkable talent. No one would ever think twice to question what she was capable of.
And who am I compared to her, anyway? You thought.
"So... you're starting today!" Peter exclaimed, stirring his coffee after putting in some milk.
"Yes. I have this pitch presentation for Sam and the team. But there's nothing to worry about. The last meeting went well and Sam and I have The Falcons' best interest." Then you told him about how you butted heads with his assistant, Sharon Carter.
"Oh, she's a Schmidt!" He commented, laughing. "Everyone's got a Schmidt."
You laughed alongside him, reminding yourself to beat Schmidt's ass when you see him.
"Man..." he trailed off. "How Bucky could convince you... it's still a mystery to me. You're kind of a hard shell to crack."
You chuckled nervously, gazing down at the floor. You didn't answer. You didn't know what else to say.
You and Peter chatted for a little while, burying the little hatchet you had. You talked more about the trip he'd had with his colleagues, the shocking truth about Steve's past ("Who knew he could write?"). Here, you made a mental note to yourself to perhaps check some articles he had written in the past. You also hoped some of them were online. By the time you and Peter stopped talking, he had already finished his cup of coffee and the sun was almost all the way up in the New York skies.
Before you even got out of the kitchen, you turned around and asked him one thing: "Hey, you still in love with that girl or did the whole retreat thing help you forget her?"
His back was turned to you once again as he was washing his mug. But his actions stopped once you asked the question. His head tilted. "Very much so."
You frowned, crossing your arms. "Very much in love with her still or..."
He turned around, his eyes meeting yours. "I'm still in love with her. Nothing's changed."
"See." You snorted. "The retreat thing was complete crap. Didn't do you shit. My advice for you? Tell her how you feel."
His eyes averted to the tiled floor, continuously nodding his head. "Perhaps."
With that, you left Peter with his lingering thoughts and wished him good luck. You must admit, the curiosity of who this girl he had been in love with for years was eating you. He was the kind of best friend who practically tells you everything that goes on in his life: all the good ones and the shitty ones. But you counted it fair, knowing that you too were keeping a dirty little secret from him. The only difference was your secret involved someone dear to him; whereas, his involved, perhaps, some girl you haven't even met yet. Maybe he met her in the office. Who knows?
You came back to your room, finding Bucky still asleep in your bed. You locked the door behind. The little snores coming out of his mouth were now gone. You woke him up quietly by kissing his temples and his forehead. After a few moments, his eyes fluttered open and a small curve by the corner of his lips started to show. The sun shone on half of his face, his ocean blue eyes absorbing all the light.
"Good morning, handsome." You whispered, smiling at him.
He chuckled and closed his eyes once more, letting his head dip into the pillow, as if shying away from a compliment. "G'morning." He lazily replied. "Is Peter still out there?"
"Yes, he's getting ready for work. You can go out after he leaves."
He rolled towards you, one arm dangling on your waist. "I don't want to go."
"You have to, silly." You giggled.
He shook his head on your tummy, tickling you. You laughed at the way he behaved. Different from the one you had witnessed last night. You stayed in bed for a little while, just in each other's arms, the silence closing in. It was a comfortable silence. One you could get used to. After what had transpired last night, silence was all you needed. Sometimes, it speaks louder than words could. We listened to each other's heartbeats, the sound of Peter's footsteps a few feet away from us, your shallow breathing, and the ongoing traffic just a few stories below
Then, Bucky broke the silence. "I never noticed how loud the traffic could be."
"It's either you've been living in a jungle or in a penthouse that almost reaches the sky."
"I'd like to live in a jungle." He continued. You prepared for his little ramblings, smiling to the wall in front. "So peaceful and quiet. I'd be swinging on vines to vines to vines like Tarzan. I'd like that."
You wanted to tell him a jungle isn't peaceful and quiet, with wild animals lurking around. But perhaps, compared to the human world, it was peaceful. Humans are behaving more like animals these days — or worse than them, even worse than the wild ones. But you liked that he was comfortable enough to tell you all the little weird things that were going on inside his head, all the good and bad, all the big and small. Things he had never uttered to others.
Perhaps it was good that the child in him was still there. At least he still sees the beauty in the world.
His phone vibrated somewhere on the floor, making your thoughts dissipate. He quickly picked it up as soon as he saw the caller ID.
"I have to go, doll." He sighed after talking to whoever was on the other line, picking up his boxers and his pants. You tilted your head to the side as he bent down, subconsciously biting your lower lip. "Tony's in the penthouse."
"Stark?" You frowned. "What's he doing in there?"
He pulled his shirt over his head. By this time, Peter had just finished showering. The water in the bathroom had just stopped dripping. "I'm about to find out."
"Peter's still out there. How are you gonna go out?"
His eyes moved to the closed window in front of him. "The same way I got in last night."
I raised your eyebrows, standing up. "In broad daylight? When people could see you? You're crazy."
"Well baby, I'm crazy for you and I see nothing wrong with that." He smirked, making his way towards you. "What's one more crazy thing to do?" He sped towards the window and quietly opened it, letting a cold breeze inside the room. His foot was just outside the window when you grabbed him and placed your mouth on his.
"Thanks for telling me about your past last night." You said, pulling away. It needed to be said. Now, you felt that you knew him better, knew the deep parts of himself he had been keeping, rather than the parts you already know about him. "I really appreciate it."
A soft smile landed on his lips. His hand caressing your jaw. "Thanks for listening, doll."
Then, he climbed down the fire escape, vanishing like Aladdin on his magic carpet.
--
The inviting smiles of the marketing team invited you into the conference room (the same one as last week) as soon as they saw you walk in. With your head held high, red lips, stilettos, and a bunch of papers and a laptop in hand, you shook all their hands with your free one, introducing yourself. Your eyes landed on Sharon who just gave you a nod. You turned around and fixed all the things you needed for your pitch on the table and felt a bit sad about you and Sharon's little exchange.
You were the only women in the room. The least you guys could do was to back each other up but clearly, it wasn't the way she usually goes. Or maybe she just really hated your guts.
While waiting for Sam to arrive, you practiced the speech you've had prepared a few days ago in your head as you skimmed the slides you prepared — all the color schemes, the tones, the framing, everything were on there.
Sharon approached you hesitantly. You looked up and gave her a questioning look, your fingers suspended in mid-air against the touchpad of your laptop.
"Barnes not coming with you today?"
"No." You briefly replied.
You went back to your presentation but Sharon didn't budge. She just stood there, looking down on you. "Can I help you with something or are you just gonna stand there?"
"You're not so bad, Ms. y/l/n." She said, startling you.
"What?"
"I saw your online portfolio." She answered. "You're good. I mean, you're no Maximoff but yeah, I guess you have potential. You just need a bit of push and the right audience."
You looked back up, giving her a small smile. Albeit the backhanded slap, it was the nicest thing she had ever said to you since day one. "Thank you."
"I'm looking forward to what you might bring to The Falcons."
"And I as well."
Sam arrived a bit later, having had some problems with the shipment of the next batch. You asked if this was going to be a problem in the production for the shoot but assured you and everyone else that it wouldn't be. Not anymore.
Bucky sent you a short text message right before you started the pitch, attached with a photo of him in a black hoodie with an unamused expression crossing his face. The hood perfectly framed his face in a weird way.
The day got dragged in seconds. Even though your pitch presentation about the production and post-production of the photos ended in a New York minute, with no further questions asked (surprisingly), the interview with the countless models and athletes took longer than you thought. Some even flirted with you (and not so subtle, you might as well add) to get the job. That alone just said a little too much of their work ethic and professionalism — which none of them had.
"She's taken, buddy." Sam glared at the model right across from you. "Move along now."
We watched the Australian model get up with a huff, mumbling something incoherent under his breath.
"I could've taken care of that, y'know." You sneered. "I don't need you looking out for me when Bucky's not around."
He scoffed, crossing his arms across his chest. His eyes on the papers lined up on the table. Beside you, Sharon was scribbling something on a piece of paper, double checking all the resumes, and couldn't care less about your conversation.
"Bitch please. I ain't looking out for you, kid. I'm looking out for Bucky."
"Sure, you are." You smiled, your eyes following the next model entering Sam's office. "Admit it, you care about me."
"Ha! You wish." His body language did say exactly that but his smiling eyes said otherwise.
The series of interviews went well after that, less people flirted. If not with you, with Sam and Sharon as well. Despite that, you've met people from different walks of life; people with stories to show and tell through photographs, stories worth telling, people who have been through success and failure, who have been marginalized by people who think of themselves as superior beings, people who are still finding purpose in life. And this is what you adored in this project and what you loved about photography. It was more than making money, more than a business, more than a face. It's all about the stories behind. And you couldn't wait to capture these stories in your lenses once you've chosen the twenty models and athletes.
After the long interview, you bid goodbye to Sam and Sharon, thanking them for the time and the work you've had today. To your surprise, you saw Sharon curve up a small smile as she shook your hand. Maybe you'd get along after all. Who knew?
You hailed a yellow cab in front of Sam's building and went straight to the bar, texting Bucky that you were on your way. You smiled, sitting closer by the window, looking up at the sunset hues in the sky. Now, whenever you looked at the sunset, all you could think of was Bucky.
As you looked above, some striking letters caught your eye: Stark Industries. The biggest, most famous business franchise there ever was not just in New York but in America. Tony Stark had hotels, restaurants, clubs -- you bet there wasn't something he hadn't owned yet.
Upon getting at the bar, Bucky was already sitting on the high stool by the counter. You were getting ready to hug him from behind but seeing Peter get out from the toilet stopped you. Instead, you went for a small smile and a wave. You would've killed to hug him and kiss him after a long day.
Nat wasn't around for her shift tonight, so it was just Nick and the other guys going around for orders. You wondered if Steve too was around or not but it looked like he wasn't. Well, that explains things. It wasn't that hard to put two and two together.
The bar's atmosphere was different without Nat around. Everyone was nice.
"Hey, it's Miss Big-Shot!" Even Nick was nice. "What can I get for ya?"
You ordered a non-alcoholic drink while telling Peter and Bucky how things went through today, secretly wishing it was just you and Bucky. You would've been sitting close together, thighs grazing each other, fingers brushing against each other under the counter, like a couple morphing into one entity.
You secretly kept glancing at Bucky, wondering what was in his mind, wondering if he too wished the same thing you had wished for, wondering if he would kiss me every chance he'd get to. You weren't a big fan of the whole PDA thing but when it came to Bucky, you'd let him do anything to you anytime, anywhere.
After you told them how your day went, you decided to ask a stupid question: "Oh hey, Bucky, how'd it go with Tony?"
Silence filled the counter. Bucky's eyes filled with horror while Peter shot you a questioning look. Then, he looked at Bucky. "You saw Mr. Stark today?" Then, back at you. "Wait, ho-how did you know about that?"
It was a good thing you were quick to think off the top of your head. "Bucky and I ran to each other in Manhattan and I asked how he was doing and then he told me about it! Right, Bucky?"
"That's it!" He replied, smiling awkwardly. "We did and yes, I told her."
"Aw, man. Mr. Stark never answers my phone calls or messages." Peter pouted. "What did you guys talk about?"
Bucky shrugged, taking a sip of his beer. "Business stuff. He says he wants me to be more... present. You know how he is."
But Peter didn't seem to mind about Bucky's reply. "How come he doesn't call me?"
"Oh my god, Parker, are you jealous?" You laughed, nudging his shoulder.
"Well, he never calls me!"
"Aw, is daddy too busy for his little boy?" You joked, pinching his cheeks which he slapped away.
"Ew, don't call him that!" Peter exclaimed, playfully glaring at you. "And he's not my dad! He's his dad!" He pointed at Bucky with his thumb."
"I'm adopted."
"Which technically means he's your dad." He replied. "Did he say anything about me?"
"No, not really." Bucky chuckled at Peter's whining, putting a hand on his shoulder, as if reassuring him. "Don't worry, kid. We'll go pay him a little visit and you can curse him out if you want. I'll be happy to back you up."
"Oohh, I can never do that to Mr. Stark."
"Why not?" You asked. "He's not your father. I say go curse him out."
"He's Tony Stark!" He exclaimed. "You'd be crazy to do that."
"You are such a baby, Parker." You groaned.
"I know." Peter smirked. "That's why women find me adorable."
"Gross." You cringed at him, throwing a cashew nut to his face. "Never ever say that again."
After about an hour of catching up, you three went to the apartment, the awkward silence during the elevator ride killing you each passing second.
You and Bucky stood behind Peter as he struggled to open the door, a little too close for Peter's liking (if he could see us now). Bucky slowly hooked his pinky with yours. You looked at him with a small smile on your face, then down at your pinkies hooked together.
They looked like a little knot on a string.
Bucky looked straight ahead, a sly smile playing on his lips as his hand moved from your hand to your ass. You slightly jumped at the contact, a small blush covering your cheeks. He removed it immediately when Peter managed to open the door after mumbling a few profanities under his breath. You quietly whimpered at the absence of Bucky's touch.
You went straight to your room after that, leaving Bucky and Peter in the living room. While changing, you noticed a gift-wrapped box sitting on your bed. It was a sleek black medium-sized box, adorned with a thick black ribbon, and thin silver ribbons. You frowned at it as you unbuttoned your blouse. You brushed your hand against the ribbon, looking for a note but there was none.
Once you put on some house clothes, you sat on the bed and carefully opened the box. You gasped as you carried the lid. Inside was the Nikon D850 — exactly what you've been wanting — and three different lenses, each with a different purpose.
"Bucky, you son of a bitch." You mumbled, adoring the equipment laid out on the bed.
On the bottom of the box, was a little white note that read:
For the most talented person I know.
Yours,
B.
You glanced at the door as you heard Bucky's laugh echoing against the apartment walls and immediately got out of your room. Peter was already walking to his room to change, leaving you and Bucky in the living room.
"You're welcome, doll." He whispered.
You wasted no time to push him towards the kitchen, and trapped him on the counter, your lips already smashing his. "You don't know how much I've wanted to do that since I saw you at the bar." You breathed out.
"Oh trust me," a quick peck on the lips, "I know."
"Bucky, the gift — "
"Is not too much."
"I was going to say I appreciate it." You smirked. "I think I know you well enough now not to say those kinds of things. But — "
He groaned, throwing his head back. "No buts, baby, please. Unless it's your butt." Then he, the cheeky guy he was, moved his hands on your ass, squeezing them.
"But..." You placed his hands back on your waist, giving him a look. "You don't have to do this all the time, okay?"
"I'm not making any promises."
"James, I mean it."
"Y/n." He smirked. "I mean it too."
"You're never gonna stop, aren't you?" You sighed, gazing into his eyes.
"You know me well enough to answer that question yourself. Now, what do you say when you've received something from me?"
"That's not fair. When you give it to me," you pushed your crotch against his, earning a slight groan from his end, "I normally don't say thank you. How come I should say it now?"
He sighed, shaking his head. "You're really something else. You know that, right?"
You rolled your eyes. "The amount of times you've told me that, Bucky, I swear — "
Then, he shut you up by kissing you softly on the lips. "Where's my thank you?"
You giggled, pressing against him harder. "How about I say thank you in a different way? How's that sound?"
"Right here? Doll, y'know I'm not one for a quickie. If I want to fuck you — "
The sound of Peter's door opening made you jump off Bucky faster than the speed of light. Peter entered the kitchen as you pretended to grab something from the fridge.
"So... this was nice." Bucky said, peeling himself away from the counter. "But I have to go. It's getting kind of dark now plus Howard's waiting for me downstairs."
You watched as Bucky and Peter exchanged their goodbyes by the door, and watched your lover walk away from you without a short hug.
As soon as you went back to your room, your phone rang. You immediately picked it up seeing Bucky's name on the screen.
"If I want to fuck you — and trust me, I always want to — I'd be doing it all day, all night. My place tomorrow. I'll be waiting for you, my little devil."
And with that, you laid on your bed, together with Bucky's gifts, with the thought of Bucky pleasuring you in all ways possible running through your head.
Steve Rogers strode in the mirrored hallways of the Stark industries with Jarvis right beside him, dreading for this spontaneous meet to end. Keeping his head low, he asked Jarvis:
"What does Stark want from me now, Jarvis?"
Jarvis gave him a side-glance, not uttering a single word.
"Oh come on, now." Steve looked at the blonde beside him. "Don't be shy. Usually, you have the right words to say."
But Jarvis didn't budge. He knew Tony well enough not to talk to Steve. Besides, it wasn't any of his business. He was just Tony's little errand boy -- alright, perhaps errand boy was a bit degrading. His... assistant. Someone who does the dirty work for the boss.
"The silent treatment? Really?"
Jarvis internally groaned. Steve didn't use to talk that much back in the good old days. Almost reaching Tony's office, Jarvis showed him the way but Steve stopped him.
"Yeah, yeah. I know where it is." Steve huffed.
"Very well, then."
"Oh, now you talk." Steve said, stopping right outside Tony's tall metallic doors. Jarvis offered him utter silence. "Always a pleasure, Vis."
Tony Stark sat on his cushioned throne, trailing a little yellow cab with his fingers, as if playing with toy cars. Once he heard the door close behind him, he turned around and met Steve's cold blue eyes.
"Mr. Rogers." Tony acknowledged, eyeing Steve from his head to his feet. "Please, sit down."
"I won't be long."
"I'm afraid that's not for you to tell." Tony's voice was firm. Authoritative. Something Steve never missed. "We have much to discuss."
Steve sighed, defeated. He had no other choice but to sit across from the jerk.
"If you're here to tell me to shut up about that thing you don't want Bucky to know, don't worry, I will."
"So..." Tony trailed off, pulling himself closer to his table. "You know that I know."
"It was more of a guess." He replied, frowning. "But knowing you, I just knew it to be true."
"Alright," Tony exhaled, minding Steve's cockiness, "let's cut to the chase here. Your little bar? Captain Brews? I want to buy it."
"No."
Tony was taken aback by Steve's swift answer but he didn't show it. People always said yes to Tony. Always. "I'm afraid that word isn't a part of my vocabulary."
"See, that's where we differ 'cause in mine, it is." Steve answered, keeping his voice strong and steady. "I don't want anything to do with you. I did everything you told me to. Leave me and my bar alone."
"How much do you want for it?"
"What?"
"Ten million? Fifteen?"
Steve scoffed, biting his lower lip. "I told you, I won't tell Bucky what I know. I've burned all the papers, all the articles, all the drafts. There's no evidence left. Buying the bar just to have your strings on me won't do you any good, Stark. I won't allow it. You've already had my word before, right? What's one more?"

Super long ass rant ahead yall don't have to read lol no taggies
~~~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, uh, today it's kind of a different Simp Sunday. As you may notice, I added Story Sunday there too, something someone Chris knows brought up once. I'm not saying this is going to be a regular thing, just... Today I want to do things this way. I have things I want to get out, I have some explanations I want to let out there too. For a few people specifically, I guess. And it's completely up to you to read though it all or not, so don't feel forced to. I guess this is just a walkthrough of my last two months.
Last Sunday I said I was going to get my shit together, and this is a big part of it. Because everything around me keeps moving, and people lets go of things and moves on too and I continue to feel like I am stuck in the same place I was weeks ago. And it sucks.
I've been writing this over and over for the past couple of days, I've been using names and deleting them and changing them and writing them again. Wondering if it would even be fair to bring stuff up or if it would even be safe to mention some. Wondering if its worth it. I'm so good at keeping things to myself. So good at drowning alone. But it's too hard. It's too hard to be considerate with everyone but me. It's too hard looking for ways to make my words sound a way I don't feel. It's so so hard to care for everyone around and let go of opportunities and experiences out of my own fear of hurting someone else. So I'm sorry beforehand, just in case. I don't know how this will come out but I'm losing nothing, I guess...
Today I'm simping for myself. But for real. Today I'm putting myself first and allowing myself to care for me. Not because I'm pretty, against popular belief of our egos being too high. But because I'm a good person. And I need to let things out.
I'm a great person.
I'm always putting others first. I'm always pushing my problems aside to help out. I'm always listening to everyone. I'm always asking everyone how they're doing, if they need help, if they need anyone to talk to. I'm always making time for people when they're in a bad place. And I don't expect nothing in exchange! I really don't! I take care of the guys, I take care of the pack, I take care of my babies. I push my needs and wants aside as long as that keeps people out of troubles, as long as it doesn't get anyone in uncomfortable places. I constantly put the pack first over what I crave.
I am a good person.
So why do I have to be this broken? Why do I have to feel like nothing ever works out for me nor will work out? Why do I have to feel like my heart gets ripped out every time someone that matters to me chooses someone else? Why do I have to settle with what I'm given? Why do I have to put up with it in fear of making her sad? Why do I have to put up with people leaving me when I have never not ONCE left anyone behind in my life?
It's so fucked up. It's like the entire universe plotted against me.
I've had to see friends leave, family, lovers... I've been made to feel like complete and utter crap. I've been stepped over like a rug so many fucking times. I've been made to feel like I'm not enough. Like I'm lacking. Like I could and should be doing better.
Mostly by my own self.
And I'm tired of it.
For the longest time I thought it was me. Maybe I'm just a bad at love? Maybe it's not meant for me? I can be good at loving. But it doesn't mean I'm good at love, right?
Like, I love Jihyo. So much. I really do and she knows and she loves me too, she says, yet she can't be with me. Am I really that bad? And she just goes out and starts dating someone new in no time and I'm still here fucking whipped and hiding my hurt because I'm tired and I just wanna get over it and I don't want to hurt her more talking it out but it fucking sucks. I thought we had something. Maybe it was just me being dense and stupid? I lead myself to believe things that weren't happening? Did I break my own heart? I'm happy she's still living life and moving on, but why can't I do the same? What's stopping me? What am I holding onto?
Or Leehi. I loved Leehi so much. I really did. She made me feel needed. She made me feel important. She gave me all the feelings I needed to feel from a partners. And she did love me too, or that's what she said? Did she really love me or did she just love the idea of me, what I represented? The idea of having someone next to her. She still left me. She said it was too hard and left me just like that, I wasn't enough. What I offered wasn't enough. And I guess I'm proud of her for making her worth known, but it still hurt. And it broke me. It hurt so fucking bad.
Even my supposed mate left. We clicked but not like we should. She loved me, she loved the pack, but she couldn't take care of them, of me. I wasn't there for her either. I was a trashy boyfriend, I couldn't give her what she needed. What she wanted. I put her on a position she wasn't ready to face. At least that's what I keep telling myself. That we had to part ways because we weren't good for each other. But maybe I just wasn't good for her. Maybe I'm not good for anyone.
Every time I love someone like that I somehow find a way to drive them away. I find a way to fuck it up. And I feel so alone. Maybe it's just my wolf talking, maybe it's really how I feel. But i feel so alone. And the worst part? Now that someone seems to actually love me like I deserve I'm so scared. I'm so so scared. Because I don't want to hurt him. But I don't want to hurt myself either. Not anymore.
And it's not fair because I want to give myself a chance. I want to give love a chance but it's so hard. And that's when I begin to think again that I'll hurt people, and that everyone deserves better than me. Because no one deserves someone scares of loving. What good can I do if I'm scared of doing the one thing I claim to want so much?
Wow. That was one hell of a word vomit.
Anyway, where I'm trying to get with all of this is... The reason why I've been lacking so much the past few weeks, months... Its because I felt I wasn't enough. I wasn't worth it. I felt I had to do better. And all these things have been weighing me down so much. Holding me back.
So today I'm simping for me. Because maybe you deserve better from me, but I deserve better from myself too. I deserve to love myself. I deserve to feel enough. So this is my first step.
I'm letting go of everything that hurts me and I'm starting brand new. I'm starting better. Or I'm going to try, at least.
🖤 I See My Future Before Me 🖤
***
Galatea found Vergil in the library that day, and when she approached the little boy, she saw him drawing something on a cover of a hardbound book with a blue crayon.
She might have smiled at the boy's little project but, the erratic movements of his little hand as the worn down cerulean crayon chaotically glided through the book, making jarred lines and messy curves, slightly unnerved her. And as the huge letter V finally started to form on the book's cover, she realized what he's been doing.
"You know, William Blake would not appreciate what you did to his book if he sees that." She gently told the little boy as she took a seat on one of the chairs next to him.
Vergil looked up at her, letting her see the ugly bruise on his cheek ( most probably Dante's doing ), and frowned. "I want to make this book mine!"
"I know, dear. It's just,... you're going to ruin the book. And if it's ruined, you won't be able to read it properly again."
"BUT - !" The boy almost cried. "It's Dante! He always takes everything away from me! I'm putting my name on it so it can truly be mine!"
"Sshh, sshh, sshh, alright, calm down,..." Galatea hushed as she held up her hands in front of the boy. "I understand. No need to get mad."
"But,..." the boy looked down at the ruined cover of the book, his tears now steadily flowing from his eyes. "... will Mr. William Blake really get mad at me for doing this?"
The girl smiled as she took the boy into her arms and wrapped him in a very warm and gentle embrace. "I think," she explained. "... that he will be very proud of you for picking his works over others. He will say that you're a very clever boy, and that you deserve all the love and affection in the world."
"You're joking, I know,..." Vergil argued, calmly but still with a hint of disappointment.
"I'm not! Okay, if you'll let me borrow your book,..." Galatea answered as she took the book from the table. "... then, maybe I could do something with it,..."
Later that night, the girl showed up at Vergil's bedroom, both her hands behind her back and a mischievous smile on her lips. The boy left his bed and went over to her side.
"Galatea, what are you hiding?"
The girl smirked as she finally showed what she's holding. It was the same book, only that it has now a brown leather cover with a huge golden V, along with intricate lines around it, emblazoned on both the front and the back.
The little boy's eyes widened with complete wonder, gasping excitedly as he received the newly covered book from her.
"It's like,..." Vergil almost stuttered, his excitement getting the better of him. "... it's magic! How did you do it?!"
Galatea playfully rolled her eyes. "Magic."
The little boy threw himself at her, hugging her as tightly as he could. "Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!"
"Ah, it's nothing." Galatea answered as she put her arms around the boy's tiny body. "By the way, I put something in - "
"I'm so excited to read this!"
The boy ran to his bed, bouncing happily in it as he started to surround himself with the wondrous and imaginative world of Blake.
"Never mind." Galatea murmured more to herself than to the little boy. "Good night." She whispered as she quietly closed the door,...
Little Lamb who made thee,
Dost thou know who made thee,... ?
"Sunny day sweepin' the clouds away.
On my way to where the air is sweet!
Can you tell me how to get?
How to get to - "
"V! Wake up!"
The poor poet woke up to someone shaking him on the shoulder and the sound of that sickly cheerful music on the television. He opened his eyes, letting them adjust to the bright morning light that seemed to add insult to his self - inflicted psychological and emotional injury, and saw the woman peering down at him with utter disgust.
"Eww, what happened to ya? Ya, like, cried yerself to sleep or somethin'?"
V ignored her stupid question as he sat up from the sofa ( which was mercifully soft, thank the Heavens ) and took a good long look around the now bright room.
During his awfully stressful slumber, Nico has managed to enter the premises ( of course, she has her own key ), parted the heavy curtains, and actually made something decent for breakfast.
And its smell was now actually wafting from the kitchen to V's sensitive nostrils.
"Breakfast time!" The tattooed woman announced as she went over to the television to turn it off.
"HEY!" Griffon, who was sitting on the floor beside Shadow, pointed an accusing finger at her. "WE'RE STILL WATCHING!"
"ELMO CAN WAIT! AND DON'T YA POINT AT ME JUST BECAUSE YER HUMAN NOW!"
"AARRGGHH!"
Shadow, who was eagerly watching the children's show with Griffon, flinched when the television screen went from colorful to blank, and started crying like Nico just took her candy away from her.
"SEE WHAT YE'VE DONE TO THE HOUSECAT!"
"OH, SHUT THE CRAP UP!"
"ENOUGH!"
Griffon and Nico both looked up as they heard V's intentionally loud scream and immediately stopped bickering. Shadow, on the other hand, went on crying like nobodies' business.
And it was to an awkward silence when he left the unit to clear his mind. He knew he has an obligation to take care of (Y/N) and he was fully aware that he must not leave her with Nico and Griffon ( who were both as perfectly capable as two clashing, idiotic hominids ) but, he really needed to get away for a while, to ease his anxiety and to calm his senses. He wanted so much to get rid of the throbbing pain on his head, and he needed get away from too much noise for a while.
He wanted to breathe some fresh air,...
All of a sudden, like something that could only happen in cheap novels and low - budget movies, a single piece of flyer flew from somewhere and landed on his face. He picked the piece of paper off his tired and greasy face, took a good long look at it, and almost swore out loud. Almost.
Of all the places that could lure him in,...
An hour later, he found himself face to face with the familiar wooden door with the huge neon sign right above it. The one place that old flyer advertised.
It was the same place,... that changed his fate forever. Not to mention the others he intentionally and unintentionally dragged along with him and his blunders.
He opened the door, stepped in,...
... and saw, in his utter shock, the huge interior of a grand, old cathedral. He was now standing next to one of the pews, and when he looked down to his left, he saw (Y/N) actually sitting on it, her eyes transfixed to, most probably, the choir practicing from the far right corner of the cathedral.
"Willst du ihnen beitreten?" Came the voice of an older woman who suddenly went through V ( like how Alicia did ) and placed a hand on her shoulder. It was a middle - aged nun with the most gentle features he has ever seen.
The nun must have noticed (Y/N)'s confusion upon being asked in a different language, and shook her head. "Oh, vergib mir. I mean, forgive me. I was asking if you want to join them." She asked, then gestured towards the choir.
(Y/N)'s mouth opened as she was about to say something but, then, hesitated. She just smiled sheepishly and shook her head.
"You'll love it there."
"I'm sorry, I can't,... I really can't sing like that."
"Oh, is that so? Hmm, you do seem to like music." The nun sat down next to (Y/N). "Then, what brings you here? You do seem like you came from a very far place. I may be able to help." She asked as she looked at her casual clothes that were inappropriate for such a cold weather.
The girl, who looked like she was about to burst into tears, nodded as she bowed her head. She, then, looked at the nun's eyes and spoke, "I was looking for - "
"V?" Came a familiar voice. The poet glanced at the vicinity of the choir once more and noticed Dante standing just next to the old conductor, his arms crossed. "Hey!" His younger brother went towards him, looking confused, and when he finally patted him on the shoulder, his surroundings abruptly changed from German rustic to American modern. He was back to his own reality with the familiar atmosphere of the Devil May Cry office before him. "Finally came for a visit, eh?"
"I,... guess I' am. Yes."
Dante rolled his eyes and gestured for V to follow him towards his desk. "So, what happened with the Vergil disguise?"
"It wore off." It was the truth
"Can you put it back on?" Dante mildly asked as he collapsed on his chair and placed both of his feet on his messy table. "Be my brother for a while?"
"Do you want me to?" V inquired as he threw his cane in mid air and caught it with his right hand.
The Devil Hunter in red just shook his head. "Nah. Would it make any difference, though? We'll still try to kill each other anyway."
"Was that the only memory we had? Of us at each others' throats?"
"Seems like it."
There was a moment of awkward silence, and when Dante spoke once more, V felt that there really was a reason he was led back to this place.
"That day, when I was fighting the Dreadnought's horde, some names came up my head. Something like Andromeda, Cassandra, and Galatea?" His statement made V smirk as he shook his head in disbelief. And this very unexpected gesture irked Dante. "What?"
"You heard the man, Cassandra." V spoke, much to Dante's utter confusion. "It is time you explain everything."
For a few moments, Dante only stared at V, thinking that his "brother" has completely gone insane, and lo and behold, something materialized right next to him, and it made him almost fall off his chair in shock.
"WHOAH! WHO ARE YOU?!"
"Dante, I'd like to reintroduce you to Cassandra, the Aspect Of Future, eldest of the Sisters of Fate."
Dante raised an eyebrow. "Wait a second here, reintroduce? Did I hear that right?"
V's gaze felt like daggers against Cassandra's skin. She looked down in shame, unable to speak.
"Cassandra, if you please?" V asked. No. More like ordered.
The Sister of Fate nodded and went closer to Dante. The man quickly stood and drew back in terror, uncertain why a tall and lovely woman was approaching him. "Let your sight be opened." Cassandra spoke clearly as she took hold of Dante's head, making his eyes roll back and his muscles tense. After a few moments, she let go of his head, making him stumble to the ground. And the moment he opened his eyes, he finally remembered everything.
"H - how could I forget?!" He muttered. "Cassandra, were you the one who sealed our memories?"
"Yes." The woman answered with much guilt. "I only did it to protect you from Mundus and all of Sparda's enemies. I' am very sorry."
"Ha." The man mocked as he stood up and brushed some dirt off his jacket. "And surely you've realized that your bright idea did nothing to keep us safe!"
"That is enough, Dante." V quietly interjected.
"Can you explain what this is all about?"
Which was exactly what V did for the next couple of hours. He explained everything, from the day he commissioned him to take on the Demon King Urizen, to the day the Sisters returned to him. And, of course, he told him everything about (Y/N), how he felt about her, how he fell in love with her,...
... how he hurt her,...
"To be quite frank," Dante began as he rubbed his stubble. "... you've been a total douchebag, V. No offense. Just saying the plain truth."
"I know. And I'm sorry." The poet, now settled on one of the chairs beside the desk, answered.
"Nah. What's the point in falling in love when you don't make a blunder or two? It's called, falling in love. And, damn, it hurts. Look what happened to me." Dante shook his head and stood. "Speaking of (Y/N), I just remembered something. Wait here." He stated as he made his way to the back of the office, occasionally throwing weird glances at Cassandra, who was quietly standing at the far corner of the room.
When he got back, he was carrying a pale pink fur coat and what looked like an instrument case. "(Y/N) forgot this the last time she's here. Can you give this back to her for me?"
As V was about to take the parka - like clothing from his brother, his visions returned, flinging him back to the old rustic church where he saw the same nun from before handing him the thing instead of Dante. A pair of hands went through V, taking the parka from the kind, old woman. He moved aside to see (Y/N) lovingly clutching the warm, wooly parka close to her chest.
"Thank you so much, Sister,... ah?"
"You may call me Sister Christina." The old woman smiled. "May you finally see the man you've been searching for." The nun made the sign of the cross and kissed the younger woman on the forehead. "Möge dich Gott auf deinen Reisen segnen."
"V?" Dante's voice once again brought him back to the present. "You okay?"
"Yes. Forgive me."
Dante just stared at V with a raised eyebrow as he handed the coat to him. "Oh, and, ah, her birthday is coming soon, and I couldn't think of anything else to give. I mean, I don't know what movie she hasn't already seen, and I'm sure she's not gonna appreciate Twilight. So, I got her this." He handed him the instrument case he's been holding.
V was right. It was a violin. A real one, and not a weaponized version.
Dante scratched his head in confusion. "Ah, I know she's tone deaf. But, you can teach her, right?"
"Of course." V answered. "Can I open it?"
"Sure. Open it, play something with it, whatever you want."
V carefully opened the case and saw the exquisite, wooden thing inside. He took it and appraised it like an expert.
"Guarneri? You can afford Guarneri?!" For the first time since those stressful days, V actually felt the mirth going back to his system at the thought of Dante buying an expensive instrument for the girl he loves.
"Guava?" And he clearly sounded that he had no idea what he just got himself into.
"Guarneri." V repeated dryly. He just can't accept people being ignorant about the popular Italian Luthier - the maker of Paganini's violin.
"Guava. Guanini. Whatever. Besides, I just bought it from an antique shop and had it fixed."
And apparently, it cost too much, V thought, taking note of the dark atmosphere of the room. His brother wasn't able to pay the bills again and was probably fast approaching bankruptcy.
V pushed the thoughts aside as he positioned the violin below his left jaw and raised the bow,...
"Allmächtiger Vater, Segne diesen Mann auf seinen Wegen und Reisen. Segne ihn in seinem Denken und Handeln. Segne ihn in seiner Seele und seinem Herzen. Dass dein Licht ihn stets umgibt, und ihn auf deinen erwählten Pfad sicher leite. Geleite ihn durch die Stille und Leere, auf dass er an deiner Seite die Hoffnung und das Glück entdecke. Im Namen des Vaters, des Sohnes und des heiligen Geistes
Amen."
The two brothers both looked at the other end of the room and saw (Y/N) standing there, her back turned against them.
"What the hell?!" Dante mumbled. "(Y/N)?!"
However, V was fully aware who she really was. And he knew she wasn't (Y/N).
The girl turned and finally revealed her face. It was, indeed, Galatea. "Almighty father," she went on with her prayer. "Bless this man on his roads and travels, bless him in his thoughts and actions, bless him in his soul and in his heart that your light always surrounds him and guide him safely on your chosen path. Guide him through the silence and the void so that by your side he may find hope and mirth. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen. It's what (Y/N) always prays at night before she sleeps. It was taught to her by the nun who gave her that parka. She prays for you each night, Master."
"Galatea, is that you?!" Dante gasped, pointing at another one of the Sisters of Fate who kept materializing in his own office.
"That name was given by your father, Sparda. Before that, I was,... nothing. A shell of what truly mirrors the illusions made by him." Galatea explained.
"What do you mean by that?" V questioned.
The girl smiled. "Do you remember that night when I fixed that book of yours, Master?"
"Of course. As clear as day, dear."
The girl nodded, her expression very serious. "Then, please, take the cover off the book."
"NO!" Cassandra shrieked all of a sudden. She crossed the room and made her way to her younger sister, hugging her as tightly as she could.
Like Galatea was going to leave her,...
"You can't do this! Please! We'll lose you! I beg you, don't do this!"
The youngest sister only smiled as she embraced her sibling. "But, you've seen it?"
"Yes!" Cassandra was crying, and it unnerved both V and Dante. "So, I beg you! Don't make him do it! Please! I've lost mama and papa. I don't want to lose you!"
It's just a book. What would happen to her?
Galatea closed her eyes as a single tear rolled down her eye. She, then, looked at V. "Master, do it. And see for yourself. Do it for me."
Despite the heavy and unexplainable feeling that suddenly weighed on his chest, he placed the Guarneri and the bow back on their case, took out the William Blake anthology from his coat pocket, and opened it, noticing the part where the leather cover began. With mild curiosity, Dante inched closer to V, watching his brother tear off the brown leather cover. A few moments later, a single piece of paper fell from it to the floor, making all eyes focus on it and it alone.
And as V picked it up and noticed what it was, his eyes widened and his lips parted. It was a very old vintage photograph of a little girl holding a stuffed lamb.
It was an old photograph of (Y/N).
"I was created to mimic her image. To provide mama with a daughter. Without her, the girl in that old photograph, I' am nothing. The moment I came to life, I always dreamed of actually meeting her in person. And I found her," Galatea let go of Cassandra and went directly to V. "... and brought her to you."
All the pain in his chest went back, reminding him of every bit of mistake he has done to her. He clutched the photograph closer to his chest. "But, I don't deserve her. I,... hurt her."
"I know. So, promise me you'll find her and get her back."
"Find her? Galatea, what do you - ?" V was startled when her body was suddenly engulfed with multiple little orbs of light. "What's happening to your body?"
"I used up all of my powers. I found her, fulfilled your wish, healed her. My mission,... has ended." She answered. She was dying, and yet, there was a content look on her face.
She knew her fate all along. And she embraced it.
"Farewell, Master."
And with those final words, she vanished, leaving behind her true form: an antique porcelain doll clutching a stuffed lamb.
That image was still on his mind when he left Dante's office and made his way back to (Y/N)'s unit but, something else was bothering him.
Find her? What does that mean? It's not like (Y/N) suddenly vanished or anything. That’s impossible.
But, then, something flashed in his mind: an unknown visitor, a tear - stained note, an open door,...
V practically sprinted towards the building, his heart rate going higher and higher as the vision finally took over his mind.
It can't be! She can't do this! She can't - !
The poet flung open the door and saw the frantic look on Nico and Griffon's faces.
"Where is she?"
Nico and Griffon immediately went towards V. Something really was wrong.
"Okay, V. No need to stress yerself even more. We just went out to get some stuff and,... she's just - " Griffon began but, he was immediately cut off.
"WHERE IS SHE?"
Nico, who was the calmer of the three of them, tried to stop V as he made his way towards (Y/N)'s room. "Calm down, man! She will go back. I know she will - "
She will go back?!
He almost rudely brushed the two aside and ran to her room. He flung open the door,...
... and didn't find her there.
But, just like in his vision, there was a single note on the bed. He picked it up and saw the shaky scribbles on it.
“One of these days, and it won’t be long,
You’ll call my name and I’ll be gone,
Fare thee well, my honey, fare thee well.”
And just like in the vision, the note,...
... was tear - stained.
As they made their way back to their home, he saw his wife stop at an antique shop, her eyes transfixed on something in a glass case. He took a curious look at it and realized it was a beautiful vintage porcelain doll holding what looked like a stuffed lamb. And just above the doll's glass case was a photograph of a real human girl, clutching the same stuffed lamb, who must have been the inspiration of whoever made the toy.
He smiled at her. "Do you want her? I'll get her for you."
His lovely wife looked up at him, her smile slowly diminishing. She shook her head and grasped her husband's hand, leading him away from the shop with a sad look on her face.
The week after that, the husband introduced his wife to three girls. And he called one of them Galatea.
"Galatea?" She gasped in wonder as her hands glided against the girl’s smooth porcelain - like skin. Like that of a doll's.
She was,... simply perfect,...
The little girl smiled at her as she carefully touched her hands with her own, little ones. "Mama?"
Little Lamb who made thee,
Dost thou know who made thee,... ?
 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 He suddenly snapped awake and bolted upright. Looking around his room in complete and utter confusion.
Where were the Girls?
where was the garden?
 What the hell was he doing in his bed room this time of night??
Spine looked over at the clock on the wall and it read well past midnight. That was when the pain hit. He nearly doubled over as he realized that pretty much everything from his jaw to his knees felt like he'd had the crap kicked out of him.
His hands hurt as if he;d been gripping something too tightly.
His mouth and throat hurt like he'd not had anything to drink in a month.
His head throbbed in the same manner.  Tired, hungry, sore and completely confused.  The Spine sat on his bed for a few moments and tried to figure out what had happened to him.
 He felt like he desperately wanted to go back to sleep. Even tho it was the middle of the night all he wanted was to sleep more. He was about three fourths of the way of going back to doing that very thing when he heard it.
 Crying.... BOTH Of them.
 Somewhere in this house, both of his babies were crying.
 a few moments later, Even tho he felt like he was barely able to walk straight, he had on his dark shirt and jeans and was heading out into the manor to find and kick the ass of whatever had made his daughters cry.
As things would turn out, he was going to find a lot more than that.
 The first shock when he came and stepped out onto the landing, that looked down into the main part of the house. Hatch worth was curled up in to an almost non existent ball in the center of his web holding a silk scarf that Spine knew he had seen somewhere very long ago, but at the moment wasn’t registering.
He opened his mouth about to call out to the drider but, the look of utter sorrow on his younger brother's face made him stop. The sadness was so utterly complete that there really was nothing he knew he could say to reach Hatchworth at that point. Spine's face fell and he stepped away from the landing heading again in the direction of his daughters room.
 He felt like he was going to pass out at any second but finally got down the hall to Pearl's room. The place that was usually bright and colorful, filled with stuffed narwhals and the smell of her paints, was dark and cold and held several people.
 She was there sobbing into her pillow, with both walters and salgexicon either standing or sitting near her. Spine Stopped at the door way and listened.
 "My fault," Came a muffled cry that almost snapped his heart in two.
 "Oh Pearl it couldn't have been your fault," salgexicon told her softly, "You didn't do it. The people that did it didn't give a damn if innocent lives were taken. If it hadn't been for you kiddo we'd have lost your dad too."
 Six Sighed, "Guys she's really hurt. He bounced her around like a ping pong ball. She ought to sleep."
 Five looked at his son, "She might not be able to, people with concussions can be really restless... do one of you want to do the honors or s hall i?"
Six, "you dad, Your better at this kinda spell than either of us. "
The older walter wizard nodded and one quick cast spell later the Dhampir girl was out like a light. None of the wizards were expecting her door to fly open and reveal her VERY irate father.
 "WHO bounced my daughter around like a ping pong ball?!" Spine demanded.
 All three of the wizards looked at each other for a second trying to work up the nerves and Six finally replied, "Spine..... YOU did."
 That one stopped Him in his tracks and he stared at all of them and then his lil girl on the bed.
 "i...I'd never....."
 Five sighed, "It wasn't you man. Those assholes that broke in here did something to you... And Lilah...the only person we had strong enough left  was..."
 "Pearl! " Spine fumed at that, "WHY.... she... "
 "Loved you and knew it was the only way to slow you down enough to get you back here and give you the cure man." salgexicon, "You should be proud of the brave lil thing.. she saved your life. "
 "I .... attacked her?" Spine shut his eyes for a second and the look of pain that went over his face was agonizing to everyone in the room.
 "Dont o k?" Six told him, "the crap they shot you full of was enough poison to drop a giraffe... it's no wonder you turned Feral. I'm  just glad the lil thing was YOUR daughter.... "
 Spine started shaking a bit and the wizards grabbed him and managed to get him to sit down on a chair.
 "Wha...what else... "
 The two older wizards looked away and Six continued, " They were callous bastards that didn't care who got in their way Spine. They went after you, and Delilah... and Specter got in the way."
 The wizards watched the look of agony spread over the vampire's face as the realization of what had happened sank in. Poison meant to kill a Vampire lord had been shot into the body of a small human child. No cure on this planet could have saved him.
 "where....Where's sprocket? And Dexter?" He asked.
 "Still with him.. it..it only happened a few minutes ago." Six kept going, "The lil guy held on for as long as he could... I dont... "
 "Show me please?"
 They all stood and one of them silently helped the Silver Lord walk down the hall to the nursery where the blond child had once lived.
The scene was heartbreaking, Jon stood with Upgrade and zero outside of the room. The Dryad sobbing into Upgrades shoulder as Zero tried his damndest to be strong and not break down for his siblings.
All of them looked up when they saw Spine and smiled, at least one person they loved had been saved.  But the little boy that hatchworth loved so much was gone.
Inside the room the scene was horrid.
Steve sat in his dragon form scrunched into one corner trying not to show how upset he was.
Micheal sat next to his friend trying very hard to not break down.
On the bed his Sister rabbit sat next to Sprocket and Dexter in his wolf form.
In sprocket's arms  the lifeless lil boy with the golden curls was wrapped in her carti.. as she sobbed and hissed softly. Dexter licked the limp hand that hung down trying and trying to wake him up to no avail.
If ever there was a tragedy in this house, it was right then.
 "My god," he swallowed and headed over to sprocket. "Honey?"
She looked up from the body of her little cousin and saw that it was him. Some of the pain and rage left her face and she managed to finally set the lil one down and come to her father.
 " He was cold daddy," She sobbed, "he kept saying he was cold.. I tried.. so hard.... I thought you and pearl were going to die too...  I..."
 "I'm Sorry," He told her, "This was my fault.. for not... stopping them.. "
 She shook her head and cried more, "no.. you were hurt.... and pearl.. she fought so hard...  She... you...."
 all he could do was shake his head and hold the girl until the tears stopped and she and Dex had finally fell asleep.
"I..."
One of the wizards stopped him, "Don't' ... what you need to do now is to be there for he kids.. we'll make arrangements. "
 He nodded, "thank you."
 He turned and looked at rabbit who had gathered her wolf son up into her arms, "Come on... they need to be with pearl."
 Tired and awful as he felt he knew she was right, standing with sprocket in his arms and following rabbit back into the house to try to find away to help them as much as possible.
