[Image description: An infographic about KOSA, a proposed United States law. Long description follows.
Pale blue text on a glowing red background reads:
Stop KOSA
It will censor “adult topics” such as: - The LGBTQ+ community - Critical Race Theory & discussions of race - discussion of cult groups, such as Jehovah’s Witnesses and the rampant CSA cases within
It will also: - take away privacy and increase data collection - will allow parents to monitor what children are doing (not good for kids who are in abusive situations)
You can: - call your state’s senators to tell them not to sign - if you know someone in Massachusetts tell them to call Senator Warren to ask her to oppose the bill

In the corner is a bubble with Alastor from Hazbin Hotel. \End description]
Please do what you can to stop this bill from being passed, and please share this message where you can. It's going to be very bad for pretty much everyone on the Internet if this bill is passed.
If you're skeptical:
There are resources online with more information about the KOSA bill, including articles written by lawmakers explaining why this bill is a terrible idea.
There is even a TechDirt article written by Mike Masnick titled "Marsha Blackburn Makes It Clear: KOSA Is Designed To Silence Trans People" where they write of and post a video in which Senator Marsha Blackburn (who co-wrote the bill) explicitly stated that this bill would be used to target the trans community.
So please share this in your stories, with your family and friends, and call your Senators to tell them not to sign this bill. And if you know anyone in Massachusetts, tell them to call Senator Warren to ask her to withdraw her support of the bill.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
EDIT - UPDATE:
Please read the post I linked below, it pertains to the status of the KOSA bill. Things are not looking good right now.
UPDATE #2:
Please look at this post!

Things i really wish people would understand...
TAROT readings or Future aren't set in a stone.
Just because something they predicted came out to be false doesn't mean that they were predicting things wrong..they read the current energy and the decision their present self would make..and human's energy can change in a blink of an eye...!!
They are humans kindly leave them alone don't like what they said leave it!! Don't disrespect their work-
Please don't come upto tarot readers and tell them to explain why that "xyz" tarot reader said something different... everyone have a different way of readings cards and energies and there's no way to predict who's right who's wrong!!
Spirits and angels of any human wouldn't connect with every reader or physic and might even trick you with random answers so that their path isn't disturbed.. especially since these fs topics do you really think spirits will let all the information out knowing that so many people might want to ruin it or be putting those decisions into their own path!??
Timing and appearance aren't something that TAROT can predict accurately!! There are possibilities of hints mentioned in the cards but do you really think guides would leak up their info knowing damn well that every type of person is on this platform..and different kinds of people would be watching these celebrity tarot.!?
Just because they say that a celebrity isn't focused on dating doesn't mean they are saying that he might have not dated anyone before..
Don't ask them about their private info especially those saesang videos yeah I'm talking about the jk one how much possibility is there that it was real or fake!? 50-50 right!? And if you clearly see his hair was different so there were already high possibilities it was from way before his energy changed(present)...
You can't exactly know the country/initial/name/age/looks/occupation/any private information from TAROT. You all need to understand and know that everything has boundaries.
Don't believe in everything you see on the internet especially when it comes to these kind of things... people who make those bold statements are the people who clearly have no boundaries or respect!! Don't get to know or judge a person based on what a person says..no one knows what and who they are exactly in real life...and also not everyone are unbiased or genuine many readers already have a perception about him on their minds and many people just create videos on yt to gain followers so please kindly don't give them that fuel they are highly asking for!! Not every tarot reader is trust worthy or that experienced sometimes they just read the cards and there's always chances the cards might be wrong/right.
TAROT readings are solely done for entertainment purposes only!! There's always a 50-50 chance when it comes to predictions. Free will exists and so does destiny you can delay as much as you want or even do exactly the opposite based on what decisions you make right now!!
If you don't believe in such things kindly don't comment and say sh!t.. readers put their energy and hardwork as well learn to be respectful no one is asking you to believe them or follow their guidance. Everyone have a different mindset just because it's different from yours doesn't mean it wrong- spirituality isn't everyone's cup of tea!!!!
No you don't have any connection with a celebrity..even if it is there do you really think scrolling down predictions all day and seeing if it resonates with you will make you meet him!?? Twinflame journey sounds like a fairytale but it isn't- if he really was your twin he wouldn't make you chase him instead you'll be focusing on yourself and your own journey rather than his!!!
No he's not sending you any signs through songs or his live...it's your own brain feeding you delusions and those signs aren't any sign either as most of them doesn't even make sense like what is it that he came into my dream!?? I dream about jimin without even thinking about him...he isn't even my bias does this mean I've a connection with him!? Yeah he's literally my soulmate and I'm gonna marry him...Nooo I'm just kidding!!! But he comes because somewhere in my brain he's there as i Stan him and watch him. Dreams are illusion of what you think and ofcourse if you'll keep thinking about a particular person all day he'll be knocking in your dreams and saying things you would be imagining while day dreaming..
Even if he's your twinflame/soulmate... he's not gonna come and save you!! Healing is something only you can do yourself no Prince charming is gonna save you...you need to do that to yourself!! If the tarot readings doesn't match with what you want to hear doesn't mean they are wrong- twinflame journey sounds really fun coz you just know the part you see or the fantasies you create based on what Google says.. but healing and shadow work isn't for everyone and it literally takes years to be healed and free!!! Are you really willing to accept your flaws and regain those traumatic memories of past to release them!??
Lastly, kindly respect tarot readers they are humans and so are your idols, they aren't your puppets, everyone has flaws so do they it doesn't make them a red flag or a bad partner as there's a room for improvement and iit also depends on how their true personality is!! I'm extremely sorry for my extremely long ass messages I'm just tired of people disturbing you constantly even after that huge para written on your page.
A big Kudos to you and Bravo for all the points you mentioned. Big hugs to you. I wish people were this considerate.

THE ORIGINS OF BUDGIE CITY
Tumblr media
Welcome to this informational article where I will be explaining what exactly this "Budgie City" is, where it came from, and in which direction it will be going. So, sit down comfortably - there are some interesting things waiting ahead of you! If you are interested in the lore, visit this article.
What exactly is "Budgie City"?
It is a fictional world that I am actively developing. At the moment, I’m in the process of writing it in the form of a paper draft. I write long texts by hand, and it seems to me that spelling out each letter, unlike typing, helps to approach the composition of sentences more thoughtfully, and to more successfully avoid strange and crooked constructions that will then have to be rewritten and corrected. It is far from the final, but I want to warm up people's interest in this world before the release of a full-fledged work, which is what I am doing now. I will not publish too many pieces of text until I have finished the story completely (though I probably will show some sneak-peeks). For now the content on "Budgie City" is mostly limited to drawings — concepts, sketches and character designs. Gradually, I've been starting to bring this topic to my YouTube channel in order to introduce the setting and concept to my viewers.
You may have seen my first video of Budgie City since 2014, which I have released quite recently — “I am not insane”, a video that focuses on one of the secondary conflicts of the story.
Tumblr media
Where did this concept even come from?
It's quite a long story, and it's funny that this year is the ten year anniversary of me registering on the forum called "Budgie City". Yes, it all started with a regular internet forum — a by now almost extinct site format, which in the early 2000s and until about 2016-17 was the main place for interest groups on the internet. Now this has moved almost completely to social media, but before almost any hobby or interest had its own forum with different sections and topics. It saddens me a little that the golden age of forums has already passed.
In 2012, for the New Year, my parents bought me my first budgie — a classic green one, and I named him Gesha. At that time, I was not a regular "user" of the Internet yet. I only started to comprehend the vastness of the virtual network a few months later, and at first it leaned purely on me viewing memes in Google pictures and all sorts of videos on YouTube.
But in the spring of 2013, I discovered these wonderful things known as forums. And it was that point in time when I, having had a budgie with me for a year, decided to find a forum thematically fitting. Upon the request from my country, Google led me straight to the “Budgie City” forum.
The topics on there were something like rooms in a big house. The users randomly surfed through them and followed each other's daily lives. Therefore, Budgie City did actually feel really like being in a virtual society where everyone knows each other. I was getting used to the frequent people, getting to know each person individually. I went to their topics to write comments and answers, they wrote in mine. That's how we existed as this cozy club of interests.
There is an interesting thing with almost every child that is on the Internet — no matter where, in which community — a person with the admin/moder status is perceived as an absolute authority, any response from which causes awe and delight. And there were certain, more active and sociable admins in Budgie City — Anya under the nickname "Phoenix Bird" and Olga under the nickname "Olivka". The "Phoenix Bird" nickname spoke for itself — the image of a large bird of fire that walks around the city and receives admiring glances from everyone, was drawn in my head almost instantly. Olivka didn't have an image yet; I started turning her into a character much later.
Tumblr media
Phoenix and Olivka in their modern designs (2022)
In the early summer of 2014, I read "Warrior Cats", and that’s where the whole story took off. I suddenly felt like I should become a writer too and write my own book. And 12-year-old me, who was spending 80% of my online traffic on the forum, decided to write a story, turning part of the admin staff and the budgies of familiar forum members into their own characters. Phoenix and Olivka turned into birds, the latter in particular acquired an image in the form of a wompoo fruit dove with olive-tinged wings, the budgies of the forum were also turned into their respective characters: Gesha and Yasha (mine); Glasha and Gosha (Hoatzin); Clementine, Jack, Fenya, Nira, Mouse, Castorka, Mithril and Small (Phoenix); Kuzya (Dmitriy68), Milana (Radujniy), Raisin (yyna) and others.
Sections of the forum have turned into parts of the city — the restaurant, the mayor's office, the registry office and nursery, and suburbs with parrots of other species, located on trees surrounding baobabs.
This is how the novel of the same name with the slogan "Feathered Metropolis" was born from the "Budgie City" forum. I posted it in its own topic, had about a dozen readers and, judging by the reviews, they all really liked reading the story. Although, looking back at the writing now... I wouldn't call it something breathtaking. Rather the opposite. But then again, I am now judging from the perspective of a third-year animation director student, and not the fifth grader I was at that time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A couple of my original illustrations from 2014
The story was successfully brought to an end in about seven months, and after a while I started writing a sequel — however, the central conflict wasn’t thought out the slightest, so the plot quickly crumbled and was abandoned after several chapters.
Now the original text is lost in the vastness of the web — somewhere there is a piece of the prologue, somewhere even a couple of chapters. But the full version no longer exists — it was published only on the forum, and the said forum, unfortunately was — somewhere around 2019 — ruthlessly deleted from the Internet due to the desolation. All that's left of it are snapshots in the Wayback Machine.
Rewriting from the old version into a new one
In 2017, three years later, I made an attempt to rewrite "Budgie City" from scratch — leaving only the main conflict, the structure of the world, and the set of characters the same, to write a new text out of this "skeleton". Progress did not go beyond the prologue and the first chapter however, and rewriting was abandoned.
The same story with 2019 — a couple of pages, that’s all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two artworks from 2019
The next approach took till early 2021 to happen, when the original story turned almost six and a half years old. At that time I was already in the middle of my first year of animation directing at SPbGIKiT (Saint Petersburg State Institute of Film and Television). I wrote the prologue and part of the first chapter and went to proudly tell our master Galina Voropai about my "really cool" world. Galina interrupted me in the middle of the impromptu presentation, after which followed a forty-minute roast, thoroughly and in detail explaining that the "Budgie City" in its concept is a piece of junk that does not have the right to exist in its current form. And all this was in the presence of my classmates in the workshop. I gave up trying to defend myself halfway through, and when it was all over, I got up, quietly thanked Galina for a detailed objective analysis of the shortcomings of my project, went down to the first floor, huddled in a bathroom stall, and burst into tears.
It was the first (and yet the only) time in my life where I was literally crying over my work, and the girls from senior courses came to my howls, and we sat together on the windowsill of a public toilet. I was all red, shaking, and dropping snot, as they tried to calm me down.
Tumblr media
(my mental state that day)
After that, I did not return to those written several pages for about a year and a half. I began to doubt whether I should continue at all or if it would just be a waste of time.
After the roast from the master, I went through all five stages of grief:
Tumblr media
Yes, that was tough. But after so much time, I was finally able to evaluate the message of this scolding with a cool head and understand that most of the comments were actually really helpful - the conflict and the world did require a lot more careful study and rework. With the next approach, I wrote out all the conflicts, all the character motivations, and made a proper plan. And since the end of last autumn, I have returned to writing. Now I know where the story will begin, where it will head, and how it will end. All the actions performed by the heroes are finally based in actual logic. And, although Galina will not see the final result (she sadly passed away at the end of 2021), I hope that the new version will be one that she would have approved of.
A small FAQ:
Q: When will the book be released?
A: I don't want to make any promises as of now, because writing is a rather spontaneous and uneven process. I write more when I am inspired, and inspiration is impossible to predict. So the answer is simple — it will come out when it's finished :D
Q: Will it be released electronically or in a printed book form? Will I have to pay for reading it?
A: I plan to release the final version "Budgie City" in the same way as the old one — in open access, so that everyone can read it at any time. I will not charge money for reading the electronic version, but if there will be a demand for physical copies, I may release a small print run, which will cost money for those who want to get a copy. But it's a little early to think about that anyway.
Q: How does the world in Budgie City work? How do they live? What is the main conflict of the story?
A: All of this you can find out in this article!
Q: Where can I find more content to this world and story?
A: On this very blog or on my YouTube channel
I hope this article was helpful and informative enough for you to know where "Budgie City" comes from and in which direction it is currently heading. Thank you for reading!
Huge thanks to @annchanorsomethin for helping with translation of this article!

Tools Tuesday - Image Descriptions
Apologies for the late posting, this week really got away from me!
Tools Tuesday is a weekly part of the Finish What You Started event where I share various resources I have found to help everyone complete their WIP. Have a resource you want to share? Send it in a message and I'll take a look!
What is an image description? Just as the title suggests, it's a description of a piece of visual media. Think of it like you're on the phone with your friend and you just saw a hilarious sign or cool thing in a store that they should absolutely know about, so you describe it to them over the phone. It is communicating visuals through words.
This is a topic that is very near and dear to my heart. Accessible posts make everyone in your community able to connect and share the joy of your fandom.
Creating image descriptions or alt text for your visual media (images, videos, gifs) helps a wide range of people: those with low vision, those who use screen readers, those who have issues interpreting visual media, those who have trouble reading text in pictures, those with bad internet, and many more. There's a huge audience who just doesn't get to understand or interact properly with your beautiful art without the interface of description!
Creating descriptions can also help you, the creator. You can communicate mood or subtle details that are important, shaping how your piece is interpreted. You can introduce new people to your beloved media, gaining a larger audience of appreciators. And you can even learn something about your own work. After all, by describing something, you study it more closely.
Not sure how to make an image description? No problem! There are lots of guides out there that go into detail!
The most important part is trying. An imperfect description is better than no description.
TL;DR: A basic description should have the media type (photograph, illustration, etc), the subject's name and short physical description, and a summary of the action. If there are any words, they should be transcribed exactly, or converted to plaintext but keep the wording the same. Start the description with an indicator (Start ID, etc) and finish with one as well (End ID, etc).
Links to guides that explain the process better than I can!
General guide for image descriptions by can-i-make-image-descriptions - Basic, easy to follow.
How to Create Image Descriptions by antimonarchy - More detailed with great examples.
Image description resources by kurapikas-dangly-earring, with additions by others - Further resources and tips.
Can't do them yourself, for whatever reason? I want to make my posts more accessible, but can't write IDs myself: a guide by anistarrose
I (the event runner) write a lot of image descriptions, so I'm happy to answer questions or direct you to resources if you need them!

i don't get all the fuss about CCs reading fanfic. if you didn't want people to see it then why would you put it publicly online. like aren't you taught that if you don't want something to be seen you shouldn't put it on the internet?
i don't understand the people mad at tommyinnit for reading fanfic. like you have this space where you talk about this real person but *he's* not allowed to read it? wtf
anon this is so angrily worded are you okay lmao
i'm not really huge on fic writing myself (dabbled in it here and there but i have friends who are writers) and i care negative percent about the dee ess em pee side of things so I'm not really The Person to ask but I'll try my best to explain 👍
CCs reading fanfic is fine. They're allowed to lurk as much as everyone else is.
CCs reading fanfic in videos is exposing fic writers to their wider audience and mcyt fans have a history of harassing fandom creators into online nonexistence for any reason under the sun while simultaneously the CC themselves actively makes money off of the fic writer's work.
I ramble a bit more and it got kinda long but that's the main point. (more stuff under the cut)
Fics are "about" the cc, yes but they are often not made for the cc but rather for the writer and maybe a close group of friends. That means they're often a combination of the writer's love for the source material and a sprinkling of their own interests/experiences. This can go anywhere from smashing two interests together in crossover AUs to deeply personal stuff like using gay ships to explore their own experience as a queer person.
Straight CCs are Not Going To Understand the latter in the way that writer and their gay friends are going to enjoy it. They can read it but they're never gonna be able to look at it the way their fans will.
That's one of the more forward examples but this applies to everything. You will never have that degree of separation from the source material to be able to enjoy fic the way fans do, you're simply not the target audience.
What's more is (not talking about the thomas innit guy or whatever i genuinely don't know who he is lol) these reading fanfic videos tend to have more of an unfortunate.. point and laugh aspect to them? A lot of the time it's presented in this LOOK AT HOW WEIRD THIS THING IS! way that can be humiliating for the author and incite even more harassment because the audience gets introduced to the author not as a person but as entertainment. You can see how this is a bad combination when you consider the previous point about a lot of fanfic being personal, I hope. It all can feel just a bit exploitative.
It does Not take a lot for a CC to open the floodgates on harassment. Just earlier this year another youtuber followed one of his fan artists and that eventually lead to that artist being full-on doxxed. Regardless of anyone's opinions on that situation, whether the youtuber is to blame, etc. etc. it's a pretty blatant example of how CCs even just interacting with fan creators on social media can lead to people being unhinged if they don't like their work. Now imagine making a Whole Video.
and don't say "oh just don't write weird stuff you don't want them seeing" because:
a space where writers are afraid to share their more intimate experiences with taboo subjects like mental health, queerness, abuse, and so on is Not Healthy artistically. Less communication about these topics = less people finding others who are like them = more people feeling alone in the world. I don't want that just in a fandom because a youtuber (who is not forced to look at fic) doesn't want their cubito to kiss certain people.
people. will. find. things. weird. anyway. i've seen twitter call the most mundane, wholesome, coffee shop au fics PROBLEMATIC for daring to ship two characters who have a four or five year age gap. I've seen literally almost every ship you can think of get called incestuous at some point or another because Someone On Twitter said they have "sibling energy" and all of a sudden it's incest and the writer should Die I guess.
"weird stuff" is really hard to define in the first place.
CCs are not authority and we don't have to listen to or cater to them. Fic is never going to directly affect them.
this isn't even getting into character/cc divide and how it's different for everyone and a lot people don't like "writing about real people" so on so forth.
This is only tangentially related but there's this.. odd thing i've noticed where fic writers aren't "respected" in the way artists are in fandoms? I've noticed people are often "scared" to talk to artists and react to things like animatics with more awe than anything else ("this has no right to be as good as it is!") whereas with fanfics it's more like. WE'RE READING FANFIC?!?! 😳😳 (I GET MARRIED TO WHO?!?!?)
There's something to be said about how a skill gap in visual art is more immediately noticeable to your average person than in writing but anyway. anyway.

Bill and Ted: What They Mean to the LGBT Community
Tumblr media
Hello! This is my first tumblr post! So before you read any further, here is a brief introduction!
My name is Cameron! My pronouns are he/him, and I am a 16 year old transgender kid currently living in America. Given the state of most of the country I am living in today, it's safe to assume that I've seen a lot just simply growing up here. The topics of my posts will be mostly random, although each blog will have a point and a focus, as I intend to dedicate this account for organizing and explaining my ideas in a well thought out and cohesive way, often tying these thoughts into the media I consume. Some of these posts will be about my personal experiences, opinions, beliefs, and thoughts, all with a hard basis in reality. Some might be persuasive, argumentative, or informative, as I intend to let the world peek into my perspective of the world around me. I do not officially speak for any minorities or groups of peoples or organizations, as all of my blogs are my bias, and are rooted in the way I think, feel and act, as well as things I have simply observed. Any ignorance on my part is in no way intentional, so always feel free to correct me. With that being said, my name is Cameron, and welcome to my blog!
Tumblr media
Research available to write a post solely on this subject was very limited, so I will try to articulate everything I write to the best of my ability, and excuse me for any absence of cohesion and structure.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is a film released in 1989, distributed by Orion Pictures, a subsidiary of the better known Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Studios. This film was the first installment to what would soon be a franchise, spawning two sequels in 1991 (Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey) and 2020 (Bill and Ted Face The Music) respectively. A franchise that proved to be profitable, raking in millions in the box office and boasting a spin-off animated series (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures), a video game for the NES, and other novelties.
The first film, and easily the most memorable, follows the story of two teenage boys, Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted "Theodore" Logan. Two known slackers who are doomed to flunk out of school because of their grades in history. To prevent this from happening, the two of them must perform an oral report detailing different famous historical figures, and how they may view the world of their little Californian town of San Dimas in the year 1988. With this seemingly impossible task at hand to create this report overnight, all hope is lost until they are met with a time traveler from the future named Rufus, who presents them with a time traveling phone booth. Using this booth, Bill and Ted go back in time to gather different famous people from throughout the world's history, with the intent to bring them back to San Dimas to help them present in their oral report.
Tumblr media
This movie at it's core is very comedic and lighthearted, with the two main characters easily being the defining novelty of the film, with their wholesome friendship always on display throughout the course of the entire movie and franchise. Bill and Ted are simple characters at face value. Teenage boys, both seemingly naive, deemed as "lazy slackers", who speak with dated vocabulary and valley accents, only seeking to have a good time and gawk at girls their age.  Being a stereotype of the nerdy, stupid, metalheads of the era, Bill and Ted were definitely a mold for the underdogs of the audience to fit themselves into.
So, what does this have to do with the LGBT community as we know it? Assuming you have seen this movie and are familiar with our titular characters, Bill and Ted, all of what was previously mentioned is already known to you. If you have not seen this movie, I suggest you stop reading and go do so, the movie is available to rent on Prime Video or stream on Paramount Plus with a subscription. (Of course pirating is always an option, but please be safe on the internet, and only do so if the movie isn't currently readily available to you. I do not condone any kind of illegal or unlawful activity.)
Spoiler warnings exclusively for the Bill and Ted film trilogy are in effect for the rest of this post. You have been warned.
Tumblr media
Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves)  are established as best of friends from the beginning of the movie as we are introduced to the exposition of the film by Rufus (George Carlin) as he refers to them as "the two Great Ones."
From the get-go, Bill and Ted are already seen as great friends, as they spend their time in Bill's garage, practicing guitar for their band Wyld Stallyns, as they laugh and have a good time together. They keep this act for the entire film, their friendship never letting up, and they stay together for the duration of the series, not just in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. They figure out different situations together, usually listening to one another and sharing ideas, one hardly ever being upset or angry at the other when things go wrong. In fact, the most angry we ever see either of them get at one another is when Bill irritably tells Ted to shut up when Ted would adoringly talk about Bill's stepmother, Missy, with Ted hardly being afflicted by this, only smiling at him in response.
Two best friends, who in their school life, are implied to not fit in among the crowd. They are called out in class, and laughed at by the other students when they can't answer the teachers' questions. In a deleted scene, Bill and Ted walk to school together, where before they get to class, they are picked on by a few jocks or seemingly popular kids in their school. Ted in particular has a strained relationship with his father. Ted's father, is shown to be a cold, demanding and hard hitting man, who weighs his high expectations onto his son. In the first few scenes of the film, one of these scenes is an interaction between him and Ted, where he tells Ted that if he fails history, Ted is to be sent to an Alaskan Military school.
Tumblr media
(Ted and his father)
Bill and Ted are at their core, a spin on the underdog stereotype, where they against all odds, do the impossible and face a task together in spite of what their teacher, their parents, or their implied classmates might say. This underdog trope is one of many that members of the LGBT community, myself included, can reconcile with. Familial and societal pressure to fit in, and yet still being outcast because of who they are. Bill and Ted certainly do not fit in among their peers, although not as apparent in the movie we know it as, research into the production of this film speaks more on this implied trope. Bill and Ted are certainly not popular, and are known as nuisances to the school.

Although once adapted for the big screen, Bill and Ted were modified to be older, seeming to be around the ages of 16-17, and less cookie-cutter characters, the original characterization of Bill and Ted remains. Even with the remnants of this vision remaining, Bill and Ted are highly relatable characters to their targeted audience. Many of those who struggle with their own identities might see themselves in these characters, feeling as if the weight of the world is pushing on them, and if not pushed to do what is asked of them can mean the ends of their lives as they know it. Still, Bill and Ted raise their heads high and adapt to their situation with gung-ho attitudes, which serve as inspiration to those who might be struggling in their own lives.
Tumblr media
(Bill and Ted in their classroom)
The story of Bill and Ted's wacky time traveling adventure is universal, with the two main characters appealing to a wide audience, and not just those of the LGBT variety. Yet what makes this film particularly special to specific members of LGBT community is the very stuff that holds this movie together as a whole: Bill and Ted's friendship. Due to a severe lack of media representation, I and many other members of the LGBT community resort to seeing traits and ourselves in characters when they're not there or not intended to be there. Bill and Ted's unbreakable friendship is never established to be anything more than just a friendship, but looking through the lenses of a queer person, they can be interpreted as a couple, or at the very least, to be less than heterosexual, despite their on-screen relationships and romantic interests in the princesses they meet in Medieval England, Joanna and Elizabeth. Taking what is already there and building on it, shaping the movies canon to create something they can further relate to.
Bill and Ted definitely care about each other, otherwise the interpretation of their relationship being less than platonic wouldn't hold much merit. Bill tends to show his concern for Ted more often in the first installment of the franchise. In a scene where Bill and Ted are in Medieval England, after fooling around in suits of armor, Ted falls over and falls down a flight of stairs.
youtube
(Content warning, a homophobic slur [f*g] is used at the timestamp 2:29)
This scene is one of the most talked about clips when it comes to Bill and Ted and their sexualities. Bill, after witnessing Ted presumably die, he proceeds to mourn his friend. While witnessing the events unfold leading up to Ted's death, he shows clear concern for his friend by running after him down the flight of stairs. While mourning, Ted's attacker appears and Bill immediately gets up to fight in an attempt to avenge his friend, saying the iconic line "you killed Ted, you Medieval dickweed!" While anybody would mourn their friend if they were killed, not many would actively throw themselves at somebody to avenge them, showing that Bill would intentionally put himself in harms way to protect/save Ted, which can suggest a more-than-friendship between the two of them.
To address the elephant in the room, Bill and Ted do use a homophobic slur after they hug each other in this scene. Back then, this was seen as socially acceptable and the word f*g was a word in the general lexicon. This movie was released not too long after the historical AIDS crisis in 1981, where many gay people were blamed and hatecrimed for the spread and outbreak of the sexually transmitted disease (AIDS) due to a spread of misinformation and hate rallying against members of the gay community at the time. All christian churches were condemning homosexuality, so gay people were seen as deviants, and treated like many other much more heinous and harmful deviants would be treated today (i.e p*dophiles and z**philes)
The use of this slur doesn't just date the film to a degree that might taint it's overall lighthearted and wholesome image, but the use of the slur sometimes serves as a form of signaling to some members of the LGBT community. The word f*g has since been reclaimed by the community, and many gay people today use that word to describe themselves or others who are comfortable with it and use that word frequently as well. Bill and Ted call each other f*gs because they are insecure about their loving friendship for one another, and is in no way used maliciously, which is why many of us have looked at the two of them and decided that they could be interpreted as a gay couple.
Tumblr media
(look at these two lovebirds, awhh aren't they adorable?)
It's no doubt that Bill and Ted have been through a lot together, and since the beginning of the film, it can be assumed that they have been friends for a long time because of the way their personalities nearly mirror one another. While they're not completely the same (Bill seems to be just a bit more outspoken than Ted, usually being the voice of reason at times, while Ted is the 'ladies man', and is more observant, contributing to their shenanigans by helping to come up with ideas to weasel their way out trouble.) Their demeanor and behavior are damning evidence of their friendship having started long before their adventure through time was conceived.  As a queer person myself, I have certain close, long-lasting friendships where our dynamic is similar to that of Bill and Ted's, and if being queer has taught me anything, it's that falling in love with your best friend can certainly come easy if you let it.
Another clip, although less serious than the clip I had previously attached to this blog, is also a talking point in "what is Bill and Ted's sexuality?" discussion.
youtube
(Apologies for the quality, this was the best clip I could find 😭 the f-slur is also used here, so proceed with caution.)
Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey is the second installment in the Bill and Ted's franchise and is definitely less frequently talked about. The plot is somewhat convoluted, so explaining it here is a luxury I cannot afford, but to add context to the clip, Bill and Ted are being hung over a cliff by two evil robot clones of themselves, these evil robots having been tasked to kill the real Bill and Ted so the clones can take over their lives. In a desperate attempt to save themselves, Bill and Ted pretend to be in love with the robot clones to increase the possibility of the clones letting them walk free. This obviously doesn't work, and Bill and Ted are thrown off the cliff. While this scene is usually just there to be a joke, digging deeper, it can be seen that maybe Bill and Ted are inadvertently confessing their feelings for one another before death. And while Bill and Ted do not truly "die" (this movie takes the concept of death very lightly, and character death isn't an end-all for a character's development) it's still plausible to assume that this is how many people view Bill and Ted at this point.
Many project themselves onto Bill and Ted. I mean, we are human, and projection is something that a lot of people do, whether that be intentional or unintentional. Seeing yourself in a character, whether that be explicitly or not, is something that means a lot to many people, which is why media representation is so important. One minor detail can go a long way. I have already mentioned that I am a transgender male. I struggle with my identity and those struggles have taken over many aspects of my life that many cis people hardly have to think twice about. The way I dress plays a big role in my self image, so any 'feminine' clothing, or any clothing that can be interpreted as 'feminine' was a no-go for me for the longest time.
Tumblr media
Seeing Bill wear a crop top for most of the first movie was a detail that I and many other people have grown to appreciate. Fashion for men in the 80's was wildly different to what fashion for men is now, so then the crop top wouldn't have made any impact. As times have changed, the crop top has become a more 'feminine' article of clothing.
Despite identifying as male, it was never clothing that gave me a problem with my identity, but rather the connotations attached to it. If I could be called a male while wearing a bikini at the beach, I would wear a bikini. Clothing ultimately has no gender, so when I see a piece of clothing I like, simply wearing it wouldn't tear apart my self image. Since society has insisted on putting people and inanimate objects into little defining boxes, wearing a skirt to school would mean I'd get a sleuth of 'she', 'her', 'ma'am', and 'girl' hurled at me, which is the root of the problem. Seeing Bill rock his crop top, not being shy to expose his midriff to most everyone who encounters him, is empowering. Because of Bill, I had grown to be more confident in wearing crop tops in public, despite what others might say or think. And damn, do I look good doing it.
Tumblr media
(Courtesy of pinknews.uk)
And it's not just me who has noticed this either. Many people have gone out of their way to headcanon Bill himself as transgender FTM, and Alex Winter himself has spoken out in support of the headcanon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition, I have noticed many other fans headcanon Ted as non-binary along with Bill being transgender. There is clearly something in these characters that speak to the LGBT youth of today, the franchise having come a long way since the 80's and is still being enjoyed today. As a member of the community myself, this is something that I love exponentially, and I definitely feel less alone in this battle of being a queer kid in a big world that still hasn't grown to love me the way other queers love me as one of their own. There are some points in this essay that I didn't touch on, but I feel like my point has still been made. Bill and Ted are characters that have shown themselves to be universal in their love for each other and their friendship, and it has touched the lives of many, even today. Most importantly, they have touched my life, and the lives of my queer brethren around the world. May Bill and Ted continue to be excellent to each other!

So of course, I loved Quinton Review's second Sam and Cat video! I just had a small issue that I haven't really seen anyone talk about.
The section of 1:53:24-1:57:49 (AKA Thing I Forgot #21) contains jumpscare/screamer content
Which surprisingly does have something to do with the topic of iCarly - and I'll describe it a bit more under the cut for those who are interested but don't want to watch the section themselves.
This is just a warning about it! I figured it out because of an easter egg in the intro to this section, and knew a little bit what I was getting into, but it still kinda upset me, so I just wanted to let yall know so you could safely watch this video, as I really do love literally everything else about it lol
This section begins on the background/intro of the classic jumpscare/screamer Scary Car Commercial (that tipped me off, as I'd seen a video about old YouTube horror a couple months ago).
Rather than the original version, Quinton then pops onto the screen and introduces the segment as being brought up by a friend (Hippie Rat), who has interests in horror. He'd rediscovered two segments that were posted on iCarly.com, which as we know from Quinton's iCarly videos, was not well-archived, so much of the content is regarded as lost media, to an extent.
He goes into an explanation of the kind of content that was made, usually low-budget, and how the actors really seemed to put their creative spin on it because of that.
The following two clips were referred to as iGotcha skits. The first is of Sam, challenging the viewer to find a banana hidden on the iCarly set in 60 seconds, only for a (very frightening imo) zombie to pop onto the screen and scream. The second is of Spencer, challenging the viewer to see an optical illusion by looking into the soda robot's eyes for an extended period of time, and this time Spencer himself pops back in, screaming and making a more silly-scary face. At the end of both segments, they implore the viewer to send the video to their friends or anyone else they would like to freak out.
Quinton then goes on to explain that these skits felt like actual videos someone would post to the internet at that time, giving it a kind of level of audience interaction unique to the time. After this explanation, the section ends. Throughout this section, there are also little effects playing in the background of Quinton talking that are meant to be kind of humorous takes on horror content (such as a UFO flying by and the segment ending with an explosion)

(genuine question) Would you mind explaining what the problem is with selling human bones? I'd never really thought about it before your fact check on that airbnb disinfo post started circulating and I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I could see it being a matter of respect or consent in general, commodifying bodies of POC specifically, but I don't know anything about the industry, where these bones come from, or what the major ethical issues are. I don't really understand what's different there vs. what I consider generally accepted disturbance of human remains like in archaeology.
Oh sure, keep in mind that I am not an expert! and I'm talking about a western capitalist context for the treatment of human remains and therefore don't have any say in (for example) cultures where the treatment of the dead is different, i have not education or right to comment on that.
to repost what i later replied to the post with:
actually i'm not done, the following are about a different bone seller from the last couple years but it goes over the ethical issues around sourcing human remains
youtube
the short version is: historically and in the modern day much of the human bone trade comes from exploitation of slaves and people in lower castes and so on to the point where even if it is a retired medical model or something inherited it is most likely to be remains acquired without consent of the deceased or their families. Repatriation where possible is the most ethical solution. We do not live in the ideal world where every human skull on the market is like that guy who donated his body to science and became yorick in Hamlet for the royal shakespeare comany. acknowledging the long history of grave robbing, racism, and exploitation in the medical industry and coming to grips with the same disregard of autonomy in death and disrespect in the modern bone trade is all i'm trying to draw attention to.
use artificial replicas in your decor! or try to find animal remains that are sold from roadkill and other natural causes! you can be macabre without [gestures vaguely at the above]
so in a context of people selling human remains to use as decor for profit, that in itself would be less of a morally weird thing to do if the deceased had in any way intended that for their remains (theoretically i'm sure some people would find the concept very cool) but that's just not the reality of these remains. It is very difficult to legally chose how you wish your body to be handled after death if it diverges from the norm, I would point to ask a mortician's video about human composting to show how recent (december 2022) something like that was legalised.
The reality is it is not a market with ethical procurement, the closest it gets is being a primarily second hand market. But the sourcing issue still remains
and the topic of when something goes from archaeology to tampering with the dead is a controversial one but if you want my opinion on that then i would point precedents like the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, or to this news story
To be clear, i am not anti archaeology or against a celebratory fascination with the morbid. I am very much for demystifying the process of death. But i think that there is too much pain and exploitation and dehumanisation and objectification and commodification of people throughout history and into the modern day. We do not have the ideal reality of all human remains in circulation being willing donations. I am personally for an active process of removing remains from a commercial market, identifying their origins, and repatriation and burial where possible.
obviously exploitation will always happen, legally or not, but while i may personally feel like personhood ceases post mortem i also believe in the autonomy of the living over their own remains (whatever that might mean) and that people don't deserve to see their ancestors and kin commodified in death.
and remember that legally and widely accepted things are not always ethical.

Tumblr media
Nowadays, the internet is woven into the fabric of our lives. While there are any number of reasons why we may connect to the world wide web, how often do we use this vast resource specifically for inspiration and education? It’s easy to hop on social media and seek out instant gratification, but what about nourishing your intellect and spirit? Fortunately, there are plenty of opportunities to do so, and in this article we’ll focus on TED Talks designed with students in mind. If you’ve never heard of TED Talks, they are speeches under 18 minutes long defined as one of two things:
Something that’s new and surprising; an idea or invention that your audience has never heard about.
A great basic idea (that your audience has maybe already heard) with a compelling new argument behind it that challenges beliefs and perspectives.
These are great videos to check out at any time of day, perhaps first thing in the morning or when you have a 15-20 minute break. No matter when you watch, I highly recommend the following seven TED Talks that cover a variety of topics that students will find relevant and thought-provoking.
1. What Your Grades Really Mean
We begin with a TED Talk by Eva Ren, who delivered this talk when she was a high school senior. In a hyper-competitive society in which everyone is striving to achieve the best marks, Ren offers insight on why grades aren’t as indicative of success as is commonly thought. Whether you are stressing over your grades or have a perfect GPA, this talk should resonate and give you perspective on your unique role within the learning process.
2. Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance
We tend to think that IQ and talent determine an individual’s success, but Angela Lee Duckworth, Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, explains the science behind what it actually takes to reach success in this quick, yet effective TED Talk. Exploring a relatively unstudied phenomenon, Duckworth makes the case for shifting our perspectives of what it takes to be successful and how we can better prepare students for their own future success. At under six minutes, this talk may be one of the shortest, but it packs
3. The Secret to Student Success
Building on the concept of grit, Arel Moodie delivers an intensely personal TED Talk that reveals his own struggles as a student, from elementary school through college. The peaks and valleys that characterize any meaningful journey are on full display as Moodie grapples with the realities of growing up in a tough New York neighborhood. Many of the elements in his story will be familiar to students, but he ultimately ties in the lessons learned into a broader message that should be received by all.
4. The Power of Believing That You Can Improve
The previous two TED Talks both incorporate the primary theme of this talk: growth mindset. Carol Dweck, Professor of Psychology at Stanford University, discusses the science behind motivation and reward to explain how all students are capable of improving their abilities. She mentions studies conducted on the brain to support her message while also rooting the science in real-life scenarios to show how students can be helped in practical ways. As one of the pioneering researchers in the field of motivation, Dweck ensures listeners that the power to improve lies within us all.
5. Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator
Procrastination. It has a tendency to get the best of us all. Easy to slip into and difficult to escape, procrastination can derail your greatest intentions. In this TED Talk, Harvard graduate Tim Urban shares an entertaining and insightful take on procrastination and how it can affect even the most well-meaning among us. He introduces a familiar (and hilarious) cast of characters to help frame why we procrastinate and what can be done to procrastinate less. There’s something here for everyone.
6. The Power of Introverts
Extroverts are all around us. We see them; we hear them; we easily recognize them. There seems to be an emphasis on extroversion in modern society, but what role does introversion have to offer? In this TED Talk, Susan Cain offers a poignant perspective on the power of the inner self. She traces how we have reached a point in today’s culture in which extroversion seems to have more value than introversion and offers historical and personal examples to show why we should strive for more balance between the two.
7. Everyday Leadership
Our final TED Talk deals with the power of connection and how it relates to a type of leadership we all possess but may not acknowledge. Drew Dudley uses an entertaining extended anecdote to introduce the concept of Lollipop Moments, a straightforward and easily applicable technique that can be used to change the world. His story will evoke many laughs, but the overall message contains a dynamic approach to how we understand leadership and the effects it can have on the people around us.

Hasan Piker Is Not Your Friend (White Men Are The Enemy, Always)
I've never liked Hasan Piker. I wasn't sure what it was, but something about the way he sets up his YouTube content has always rubbed me the wrong way. While he is a self-proclaimed leftist, with views on most topics that I actually agree with, there's always been something off about him and people like him who are prominent on LeftTube. I didn't know if it was his cringey middle-school humor, or the way he acts like a thirteen-year old prepubescent boy on camera, or how superficial his understanding on a lot of topics actually are but something about him just didn't sit right with me. It wasn't until several black creators I follow on Tik-Tok pointed out his misogynoir towards black conservative women that the puzzle pieces all clicked into place for me. Hasan Piker, and other Twitch Youtubers like him, are horribly sexist men who have made a career off calling out misogyny in the online Right while refusing to call it out in their base camps.
Hasan Piker, Vaush, and other white male Leftists are grifters, trying to capitalize on the Left by putting out anti-cringe videos + takedowns of "braindead" conservatives. While  they claim to be progressive leftists, and to be fair to them, they probably are some of the most liberal white men on the internet, none of them have actually done the work to deconstruct their male privilege nor have they deconstructed their sexist attitudes towards women. Vaush is a bigger offender at this, because he seems to truly believe that his viewpoints are always correct, but Piker is the more insidious offender of the two. At least we know that Vaush used to be on the alt-right side of youtube, but Hasan Piker has never publicly been on the "wrong side" of history and that's what makes his transgressions even more outrageous. Why, you may ask? Because he is legitimizing the propaganda campaign against Amber Heard and as such, actively setting back victim rights fifty years through his public support of a known abuser.
If you watch his coverage on this trial, you can immediately tell he is uneducated on this particular topic. His video titled "The Johnny Depp Amber Heard Trial is INSANE" involves him outright lying about the facts of this case and its significance to women's rights and abuse rights movements. Not even a minute into the video, he has claimed that it's common knowledge that Heard "fucked this dude up" and "took advantage of him when he was drunk and shit," while taking the lies that Depp has said about Heard cutting his finger off and shitting the bed as a prank as absolute truth. I've already written on the massive propaganda campaign being pushed forward by Johnny Truthers but Piker's insistence that ONE recording of Amber specifying the difference between hitting vs punching and then telling Johnny in his response that "it was a fair fight" to think about how he's bigger and stronger than her and she was in fear of her life somehow "complicates" things despite the MOUNTAIN of evidence that was provided that proved he abused her in the UK Trial is his sexism at work. Despite the fact that none of the testimony in the US Trial is new evidence, and despite all the counter-evidence that Heard gave in 2020, Hasan Piker is convinced that Heard is the bad guy in the situation.
And to that, I have to ask, how the fuck can you explain away three years of text messages, photos, and physical evidence that Depp was, in fact, abusing her because of ONE recording? It's because none of these men are actual allies to women, they just want to have the title of being a feminist to increase their social capital. If Hasan Piker gave a fuck about domestic violence victims, he would know that the only person who is acting like an abuser in this court case is, in fact, Johnny Depp. Amber has always been honest about the events in their relationship, with photographic evidence and witness statements that prove her side of the story. Despite the fact that Amber has correctly dated photographs of the bruises he left on her, despite the text messages Depp sent to her own parents admitting that he's been abusive to her, despite the fact that Depp has lied over EIGHTY times under oath already, Hasan Piker is willing to stay ignorant to the actual evidence in this case in order to support his belief that sometimes women lie about abuse for fame and money. Shame on him.
If Piker managed to do the slightest bit of research, he would have seen that multiple witnesses were caught lying on the stand for Depp. One witness admitted to Waldman, Depp's American lawyer, pressuring her to change her testimony and another witness claimed that he took a photo of Depp's "supposed" injuries when metadata confirmed  the photo was taken a year prior to the incident at hand, at which point, the witness admitted the photo was given to him by Waldman. Again, Piker's defense of Depp seems to be based on just the lying words of Depp himself whereas Amber's story is validated by contemporaneous evidence. In fact, none of the evidence that Amber has provided has been proven to have been altered or changed in any way whereas Depp's team has tried to falsify the records multiple times. Why, if an abuse victim had all this physical evidence, would they stoop to something like pressuring witnesses to lie when they could simply just... tell the truth? Again, these are things that anyone who's actually dedicated to "doing the work" would have asked about this case. Well, actually, any abuse advocate would have asked the question "why would an abuse victim sue their abuser for defamation of character when the article is factually accurate" but we've already established that Hasan Piker doesn't give a fuck about abuse. He wants to capitalize on the Left to make himself richer, but beyond that, he doesn't care about actually helping real victims of abuse and sexual violence get the justice they deserve.
Let's not even mention the fact that in this current trial alone, Depp has used abuser tactics like hiring a medical professional to diagnose your ex-wife with a "crazy" disorder so that people think her scars are self-inflicted instead of proof that what Amber said happened actually happened. Let's not even mention the fact that these men are so convinced that make-up cannot cover abuse marks that they take those photos of her on James Corden as "proof" she's making it all up (despite numerous photographic evidence that was confirmed to be accurate via metadata reports) or that her confidential testimony in 2020 of being sexually assaulted with a liquor bottle resembles a scene in a movie they saw once, so, obviously, she is making it all up  for attention (despite the fact that rape via inanimate object is actually very common and many victims have been violated in such a way). Let's not mention how Depp has literally lied over eighty times under oath, already, and let's not discuss how there are no text messages, no doctor's notes, no eyewitnesses besides the paid ones on his security team that can collaborate this idea that they were "mutually abusive" or even that, Depp never hit Heard and in fact is the victim in all of this.
Let's talk about, instead, of how in the same "damning" recording that Depp has, he can be heard trying to convince Amber to stay married to him, while also threatening her that it won't go well for her if she goes to court + trying to convince her that he never stated that she was making this up for a "premature" financial resolution (aka trying to gaslight Amber). Let's talk about, how in that same recording, Amber can be heard telling him she doesn't want to hurt him, she doesn't want to take it to court because several people told her that it's the most "convincing case of domestic violence" they've seen documented, how she begs him to please not fly off the handle so much and to bring back the man she fell in love with. Let's then discuss how in 2017, they ended up settling out of court because of Depp's efforts to get her to drop the case as well as publishing a joint statement denying any sort of abuse by either party, and how he's stated that "this is the first time in six years he'll be able to tell his side of the story." Let's talk about how if an abuse victim had all that evidence all the way back in 2016, I doubt they would have tried to manipulate their partner into dropping the case. They might opt for, oh, I don't know, giving over their own evidence to the police and waiting for their day in court instead of suing their "abuser" over a factually accurate article written years after the fact. Do you seriously think Waldman would bother with a defamation suit if they had actual evidence of Depp being the victim? Please.
I hope white women in particular are taking a look at all the white men who have jumped out of the woodworks to become abuse advocates because of this trial. I want white women to understand that Hasan Piker was never your friend, and any leftist white man who claims to be an ally for woman is in fact your biggest opponent. It's not lost on me that Hasan is so willing to believe the words of MRAs and anti-feminists when it comes to this Depp case. It's because he has rape culture values baked in him that he refuses to accept and get rid of, the most obvious one being that sometimes women lie about abuse/rape to get "even" or destroy famous men/take their money. This type of man, this type of thinking, is not our friend. Hasan Piker would have advocated against women owning property or getting the right to vote, because Hasan Piker doesn't actually care about changing anything. He just wants to capitalize on moral outrage without immediately being cancelled for having right-wing views. It's why his content is reminiscent of the anti-cringe compilations that dominated YouTube from 2012-2016, and why his audience eats it up, despite his jokes being lame and repetitive because none of these white men actually changed their political views on anything. They just were smart enough to realize that being a republican gets you no pussy in this day and age.
These white men don't actually think that women are currently being oppressed, on a systemic level. It's why Vaush feels comfortable enough to use ironic sexism as a punchline, because all these white men think that women (especially white women) are equal to men in American society. They view sexism as a moral failing, rather than a tool of socialization that allows white men to hold their power at the top. Because they love their mothers, and they recognize that abortion is healthcare, they believe that makes them a feminist or an ally to women. It doesn't. The same way white people individually "not" being racist doesn't actually solve the issue of racism, individual men "not" being sexist doesn't actually do shit for women's liberation. White women, especially outspoken feminists, are still being made to feel inferior to white men, are still being critiqued for speaking out about sexism they deal with because other groups have it worse. Vaush thinks it's okay to be sexist towards JK Rowling because she's a "bad" woman, with "bad" beliefs and refusing to listen to any well-deserved critique to the contrary. It's why Hasan thinks it's okay to dehumanize and harass women like Candice Owens, for being a "bad black woman." It's why they think MRAs are telling the truth about the Heard case, because the words of men (especially white men) will always matter more to them than anyone else.
Some of these white men have even used intersectionality as a way to quiet white women from speaking out against them. They have weaponized the plight of black women to critique white women who try to hold them accountable. They throw out accusations like "this is white feminism" and the "wage gap only exists because of racism" and "you don't actually care about male victims of domestic abuse" in an effort to silence the voices of white women. While I am unable to speak from any other perspective but my own, it seems like these white men love using racism as a gotcha for why white women cannot be oppressed in this country. White men like Vaush and Hasan are quicker to denounce racism than they will ever denounce sexism towards white women in particular. It's because they know that their position at the top rests solely on white women's docility and loyalty to the White Man, and they will never speak out against the White Patriarchy until us white women have collectively decided we've had enough.
Have we had enough yet?

This pinned post is about my blog topics. Check my bio to know about me. I never decided on an internet name.
I reblog mostly:
Plants, animals, fungi, and ecology in general
Autism, disability, and mental illness content
fandom things- mostly kids' cartoons, random books, probably night in the woods
HOWEVER.
There's also going to be scary political things I feel obligated to reblog because
It contains information that might genuinely help change something
It's an argument/perspective I haven't heard much that's interesting, so I've added it to my script for explaining the cause to people
Or it contains a guilt trip and I fell for it (sorry).
I try not to reblog donation posts anymore because I've gotten scammed so I'll leave that to people with better discretion. Also I have no income.
There might be otherwise triggering things because I have a couple of rather serious mental illnesses. I'm learning how to separate what I talk about where. (For the record I'm pro recovery everywhere).
I try to tag things but it's almost useless when I don't know which tags people are filtering. What I tag depends more on what I know how to tag than the severity of the issue.
I currently tag the following for content filtering:
#politics for things about the government and rights for certain groups (but not internal politics of tumblr or a specific community)
#undescribed for images that either don't have an image description or put it in alt text
#tw [thing] as a format for things like racism and terfs where I don't want people to find my blog through it
Just #[thing] for something like spiders that I fully support
I don't have an nsf-something tag, but there's also not much of that on this blog, as I am asexual and sexual things bother me, aside from vague comedy and scientific discussion.
I think #i didnt fact check this and don't currently have the energy to is self explanatory and if it isn't I don't think I can do a better job
#gif for a gif and #video for a video because I can't judge what counts as flashing or not
I gave up on tagging swearing because I remembered it is in my username and heading. I'm sorry.
If you have a specific tag you'd like me to put on posts with corresponding themes PLEASE let me know- that would be so helpful. In an ask is fine, I'll turn on anon if it isn't already.
I'll block people for using threats or telling someone to do something bad to themself. Even when doing that to express an opinion I agree with. Even if it's to someone I don't like.

Gen Z slang
One of my favourite parts of internet culture is the linguistics of it (surprise, suprise). So, since you live under a rock, I thought I would go over some of my favourites. 1. YEEEET/ YOINK verb Throwing/Snatching GEN Z
"Yeet that thing to hell"
(yes I'm writing like a dictionary idk why)
2. -ussy suffix
Denoting a crevice
"That's a paperussy."
I shared a screenshot of American Dialect Society crowning -ussy the word of the year but I held back the meaning because NSFW, but I'll explain it with a little less NSFW. You know that thing we call kitty cats? It's also vulgar slang for something. Remove the p and we get -ussy 3. W / L noun W for Winner/ L for Loser.
"W gamer"
Not very notable but check out this wholesome video for why I included it:
youtube
4. Stan noun
An obsessive fan
"A K-pop stan"
Stan verb
Be an obsessive fan.
"I stan BTS"
Either 'stalker' + 'fan' or Stan from the Eminem song which is about a hyper obsessive fan.
5. Cap noun For 'joke' or 'lie'. "I have a Bugatti" "Cap" "I call cap on that" "Best movie I ever watched, no cap"
Cap verb
"They're capping about that"
From TikTok, where a cap emoji is used to call out people
6. Simp noun
People obsessed with a romantic interest, crush or internet personality.
"A Pokimane simp"
Simp verb
Obsessing about a romantic interest, crush or internet personality.
"He's simping for her"
7. Rizz noun
Proficiency in flirtation
"Damnn he got rizz."
Rizz verb
Flirt
"She rizzed them up"
8. Living rent free in one's head phrase
Being unable to not think about a topic or person.
9. Slap verb
Used for when something is exceptional
"This music slaps"
10. Sus adjective
Suspicious
"He's acting real sus"
10. Karen adjective
Obnoxious person with conservative views or inconveniencing workers in places such as a supermarket or restaurant.
Karen noun
Blond, white, middle-aged woman who calls for the manager in every establishment they go to archaic
An obnoxious person
11. Slay verb
Be beautiful or strong, used generally for women
12. L+Ratio phrase
Used to signify that the internet post is not based.
"Billie Eilish is actually pretty good" "L+Ratio"
From L meaning loser and ratio, a term originating from twitter, used for when a tweet gets more likes than the parent tweet.
13. NPC noun
A person who does not have opinions of their own, follows the majority or is gullible. Often used as "Oblivion NPC", from 2006 video game Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
From gaming meaning non playable character denoting pre-programmed characters in video games.
Okay, those are the new ones I've encountered recently and are on the Wikipedia page for Gen Z slang and you probably don't know already, and now, onto the fun part.
Alex here missed the last post, and you know what we do to uh people-who-miss-posting, WE PUNISH THEM! So, for your punishment, I have thought up something very painful (hopefully). You have to find absolutely terrible lyrics, maybe like 2 or 3, and make them Shakespearen. You can maybe look at idk top songs of the 2020s, or check out Megan Thee Stallion, I've heard one song because internet culture and it had despicable lyrics. Her other titles look horrible too so I think that'll be a nice fallback if you can't find anything. David Guetta also has some weird lyrics in 'Hey Mama' and 'Sexy Bitch', I know he probably doesn't do lyrics but they make me cringe nevertheless. I listen to music for the melody so I wouldn't know too many lyrics, let alone bad ones, so I hope you can find some and entertain us. - Alia

CarmenRider And The Art Of Hypothetics
"Come on Ephrom, another post about CarmenRider! Why do you keep making these?"
For views and money of course, and no other reason.
What? I figured since CarmenRider is such a big fan of Just A Robot, I might as well take a joke from one of his videos to explain why I keep making these posts. For those curious, it was a joke I took from this video:
youtube
But seriously, I decided to write another post on this situation because there have been some updates that I feel are worth talking about. If you want to know the origin of the situation, I would recommend reading this post before continuing forward:
If must have been a good post, because Septy shared it on Twitter.
Tumblr media
First off, the conversation I had in the comments of the CarmenRider's video continued. Specifically, JustTubeStuff decided to reply to one of my comments and wrote the following
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want to make it very clear that I do believe that Septy crossed a line, but I do not think Septy threatened to dox CarmenRider. All Septy said was that they hypothetically could have--and would have had they been the terrible person Carmen makes them out to be--and the comment flew totally over Carmen's head. Mind you, I don't even blame her considering she never saw the comment, she just saw Redd Gier telling her that Septy threatened to dox her. Again, no screenshot of what Septy said even exists because it was deleted so fast. (As somebody with both anger issues and an anxiety issue, I recognize that as a sign that somebody said something they want to take back or think could easily be taken the wrong way. You can say many things about Septy, but they are not one to double down on bad actions nor badly predict how their words will be heard.)
Still, I would say this is part of the pattern of Carmen mindlessly believing anything about the people she doesn't like, something she has done for so long I even mentioned it in my first post on the subject of her:
This post, I should note, was also shared by Septy on Twitter, so take that endorsement as you will:
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Septy uploaded a call with CallMeNil on their channel where the two talked about the situation:
youtube
In the video, Septy confirms basically what I assumed since the beginning. In a moment of anger, Septy said they could do something they had no intent of doing and quickly took it bad. Anybody who read my post the day before already figured this out--fuck, I'd argue that anybody who put so much as ten seconds of thought into this situation could have guessed that--but there's something else I want to point. If Carmen and her fans want to play of game of pointing to a hypothetical and using that as evidence that the person wants to do the thing they mentioned--or even that's an issue that Septy even considered this in the first (quite literally accusing them of a thought crime)--then I wish to remind everybody Carmen began her year with this hypothetical:
Tumblr media
For those unaware, this is something Carmen said in a conversation with Mushroom Girl after the two had a back and fourth over the YouTuber Sensitive Society. If you want to know more about that, Neko Koda made a video on this topic, which can be viewed here:
youtube
Mushroom Girl--who was fourteen at the time--asked Carmen why she liked Lolicon, and Carmen said this.
Carmen tells the full story in this video:
youtube
I should also note, as Bummer Patrol pointed out on Twitter, this is an utterly nonsensical excuse:
Tumblr media
I should also note, I do not believe that Carmen is a pedophile because of this comment. But somebody could easily come to that conclusion, as many people have. Is Carmen merely thinking about turning a fourteen year old into a "human fleshlight" (which she was somehow going to do over the internet--I should note) an issue on its own? I mean, one could easily make that case, but I would assume that it would more be a case of hyperbolic language as opposed to actual attraction.
I mean, we know some people came to that conclusion because that screenshot was used in a document which specifically called CarmenRider a pedophile because of that and many other comments:
So is Carmen a pedophile? I don't believe so, but I honestly think it's worth mentioning just how hypocritical Carmen has to be in order to believe that at this point.

Welcome To My Newsletter
Every few years, I muster the motivation to start blogging again, then I inevitably get sidetracked or lose interest, and the blog goes dormant for a few years before the cycle starts again. This post constitutes my third attempt to resurrect my writing practice, the first incarnation of which was on Tumblr, the second of which was on Medium.
Admittedly, this is to some extent borne out of laziness: more specifically, a need to communicate something to numerous people simultaneously — which, come to think of it, is what social media is designed precisely to do. Over the last several years, however, it has strayed from this goal. Cultural norms have also shifted such that writing at length on esoteric topics, for no obvious benefit, now appears gratuitous or indulgent — the implicit assumption being that expending effort on something is pointless unless one is being paid to do so.
As much as I’ve enjoyed the long form writing I’ve read over the years, I’m not all that interested in the kind of “social journalism” you encounter in places like Medium or even Substack. The writing that stuck with me over the years was always more free-associative, idiosyncratic, personal. (Something I’ve realized in drafting this introduction is that I so thoroughly internalized grade school prohibitions on first-person that I could never decide what tone to strike. Conversational? Authoritative? Flippant?)
My ideal outcome would be to become a resource that people skim over for recommendations, links, lists, and other useful bits of information. Pundits have been proclaiming the death of the blog for some time now, and I felt it was necessary to “be the change I want to see” and follow the example of the blogs I used to frequent back in the day (circa 2011): Enthusiasm.org, Darren Hughes’s Long Pauses, the British design firm Johnson Banks. I nurtured an adolescent interest in linguistics by reading the websites of Justin B Rye and Mark Rosenfelder. Fix Your Mix used music theory to analyze the songs of popular indie bands, while How to Write Badly Well had funny examples of poorly composed English that bordered on stream of consciousness.
At the risk of sounding nostalgic, whenever I think about what the Internet was like when I was in high school and college, I’m struck by the impact these blogs had on my outlook as a young adult. Thus, I’d like to use this as a space for infrequent musings on a wide range of cultural topics, including but not limited to: music, cinema, literature, aesthetics, etc. Once in a while, I might publish an in-depth discussion, but that isn’t a priority. Instead, I see it as part of a one-man endeavor to restore Web 2.0 to its original glory:
Photos!
Videos!
Riddles!
Manifestos!
Hierarchically numbered philosophical treatises!
Off-color knock knock jokes!
If you are reading this, then it’s likely you know me in some personal capacity. This offers me a bit of relief, since I am spared going through the motions of introducing myself, explaining where I live and what things I do for a living, what credentials I have, how to pronounce my last name — and why anyone should want to read what I’ve written here in the first place. If you don’t, this introduction will have to suffice.

Watching the hbomberguy video finally (it's long and I didn't have time previously) and I just had such a bizarre experience.
Because I used to know Illuminaughty. Or rather, I'd heard of her in passing. I used to keep "people reading Reddit posts" videos on as background noise (and yes, I know it's low effort shit and I fell off at some point, but hey. It was a fad) and she came up in a playlist and I watched half a video before switching to something else, mainly because I disliked her presentation, it's difficult to explain and it's been years, so that doesn't help.
Then, a few weeks ago, before the hbomb went off, I saw a video on my home screen that had her in the title. It was one of those drama YouTuber videos he'd mentioned, making a video cannibalizing his Tweet and everything. By that point I hadn't even known Blaire did video essays and I only really clicked on the video because I vaguely remembered her name. But the video was just talking about some tweets and didn't provide any context and it was just too vague, so I clicked off again, none the wiser.
Anyway, started watching the hbomberguy video and I'm finally getting that context for everything, it feels so good!
Sorry if that's not relevant to anything, it just hit me like a pile of bricks. My vibe checks are immaculate, apparently.
Source: trust me bro
YOU'RE ALL GOOD NO WORRIES
first of all, no harm with being """late""" (hell you're not even that late, it's a few days old, it's nothing lmao), it's a super long video with a lot of content and honestly, i'm more surprised that this video took the internet by storm as fast as it did. I mean, it's a good thing considering the subject matter, but i did not expect it. (i've been following hbomberguy for years personally and i always wait for his videos with bated breath, i genuinely didn't expect the whole internet to react to this one as well. but i guess it also kinda happened to the previous video he posted. good for him!)
second, no wonder you felt like rambling about it, it IS quite a wild experience. I think there's something so eerie about seeing something you were kinda aware of from afar and then suddenly seeing it all come to light like this. Especially that way.
i rambled a bit myself so lol
(also while it's true the content kinda suck i do not think that people have to like... watch only perfect intellectualism content all the time. sometimes some dumb shit to keep in the background helps a lot just to have a bit of company. I think it's important to be mindfull of content mills but it's no use beating oneself up about it).
since i follow hbmb for years, i actually saw the Illuminaughty debacle he talked about live when it happened, since he replied to her back then and some creators i followed addressed it then. There is a whoooole lot of others things wrong with Blair on the problematic side that Harris didn't touch because he was focusing on the plagiarism, but it was a ride in itself.
But the timing in which you were reminded of Illuminaughty right before the video is truly one of a kind. because the whole debacle had died down a bit since then, so it was truly quite the timing??? the universe preparing you for this...
and if you're just starting the video you can stop here but i have more thoughts about it about the second half of the video, but the tldr is that i had the same reaction as you, but on the later part:
And also, like, i feel you because somewhat same but with James Somerton. He's been in my recommanded a lot on youtube, but i never watched his videos because a lot of the topics he talked about were things i had already read about, and i didn't really feel like hearing someone else's opinion about it. (though after watching hbomb's video, considering some of the stuff he plagiarized *are* the stuff i heard those topics from to start with.... really adds to it all.). I think i watched ONE video, and i genuinely don't remember what it was, but i remembered thinking it was kinda surface level and i didn't really like his take then.
But i shrugged it off thinking it's just some creators i didn't vibe with, it happens. just because a creator is queer doesn't mean their takes will resonate with me on that point, so i moved on with my life.
but then James Somerton picked some fights on Twitter a while ago against a handful of youtuber i follow, especially Jessie Gender, and i was genuinely so angry on her behalf that i kinda blacklisted Somerton in my mind back then.
for those who don't know, Somerton made a whole public drama on twitter about how Nebula "faked being queer friendly" but "refused to reach out to him and inviting him in" which means they were actually super homophobic and never actually cared for queer people. Which is a BEWILDERING thing to broadcast considering how many of the funders AND video makers of Nebula are LGBT+.
Jessie Gender called him out gently about it on twitter (because Jessie is always really sweet and calm about things), telling him that as a trans woman, she disagreed with his reading of it fully and no platform has given her the freedom to express her experience like Nebula did, and she hoped to reach out to him to discuss what exactly where the Nebula returns that made him feel that and if there was something that could be done about it.
And Somerton then immediately went on about how because of Jessie, he got hundreds of homophobic death threats and that it was the real face of Nebula, and why his fans needed to boycott Nebula. Jessie got *mad* harassed out of it. she had a very hard time following that.
(she recently made a video about the Somerton issues following hbomb' video - i didn't have the time to watch it yet but i definitely need to see if she addresses it since she mentioned it on her twitter a couple of times since then)
And it was genuinely horrible to see. I've seen so many trans creators and others LGBT creators trying to reason with Somerton and Somerton dug his heels insulting them and putting himself as the victim of an homophobic campaign and having his fans harass the trans creators who called him out, as well as the fem-presenting or afab LGBT+ creators who called him out. (like in insight it was obviously misogyny. he includes trans women in his misogyny but he also treats anyone afab as women to start with. In insight it truly is the man so misogynist that he has to broad his definition of a woman in order to hate as many of them as possible, even when he's wrong and those people aren't women (speaking of the trans men and nb people he misgendered in his search for misogyny, to be clear)) It was a horrible debacle.
Turns out that Jessie had actually tried to invite Somerton into a discord server with Nebula's people so he could eventually make his case here, but he refused to join then, and then he threw Nebula under the bus on twitter -- and turns out Nebula wasn't actually considering him because of the plagiarism' claims against him they wanted to investigate (Harris being a major voice of Nebula to start with. also similarly, it may also be why Todd in the Shadows, also a major voice of Nebula, was pulling his own investigation on Somerton (that he published after Harris' videos))
Like i'm not going at it with "it's obvious Somerton was a fraud", don't get me wrong, i just didn't vibe with the guy and found the little of his content to be so surface level it looked like any random tumblr post you could read (which, imo, i think a lot of the things Harris might not have found being obviously plagiarised, probably came from tumblr, since it's harder to find the source of posts there). I was just very angry at the twitter thing that happened, so i remembered his name and kinda flagged him in my brain as "this gay dude who only cares about his own letter in the LGBT+ community".
So huh. going into Harris' video, i did expect the Illuminaughti stuff because the drama was fresh in my brain and all. But when i saw the Somerton bit i was just "holy shit WAIT FOR REAL???" and i've stayed in shock the whole time.
I think even without knowledge of any of these people, the video is a bombshell in the way we interreact with content especially on youtube. but knowing even slightly anything about the content he's talking about makes it all more eerie and bewildering.
So i totally feel you on being super weirded out that this creator you kinda crossed path with but never was super involved in suddenly returns to hit you in the face like this. it's a really weird experience so i feel you 100%
so no worries about that and i'm glad you're watching the video and are learning something out of it! i do think it's more than just drama and it's an important video about the way plagiarism manifest itself and the way this type of people prey on more vulnerable communities to start with. so if the video can also struck a cord in other way, it's a nice thing imo.
so o7 very glad to hear it, and i know i blogged a lot about the video so i get why you felt like talking to me about it.
(but check hbomb' catalogue if you can. the Roblox video is in the same vibe and it's one of my fav video of all time. The Pathologic video he made is a master piece. He has so many good content. Truly worth a watch ;D)
Take care and good luck with the rest!
