When a Star Wars writer engages with the material but not the narrative.
I'm writing a long post about the Jedi and the clone troopers and there's a whole section that I had to remove because it was too long:
Tumblr media
Karen Traviss' take on the Jedi and the clones.
I already wrote about why Karen Traviss' take on the Jedi and Yoda doesn't track with what George Lucas had established in his narrative of the Prequels. Since then, I've been able to do more research.
It's no secret that one of the reasons Traviss listed for criticizing the Jedi in the Expanded Universe books she wrote is their treatment of the clones (or at least what she understood it to be).
In 2008, she wrote a now-deleted blog post about it (it was really long, so I'm only including the part relevant to my point, if you want the full context you can look it up, this is old stuff).
Tumblr media
So if you ask me, in the above quote, Traviss is essentially doing the equivalent of saying:
"Batman is a psycho elitist who beats up the mentally ill and indoctrinates kids, turning them into child soldiers for his unending crazy vigilante war on crime, and if you can't recognize that then you scare the living crap out of me."
Like... you can argue that, and a couple of comics have argued that.
But by and large, the general consensus is that Batman is a superhero, the Robins are his sons and daughter, and the "mentally ill" are in fact the Joker and Two-Face aka mass murderers.
So if you make that argument, that's you applying your real-life values and conclusions to a narrative that deliberately doesn't acknowledge those points, in-universe, in order to tell the story it wants to tell.
It's counting on your suspension of disbelief, defined as "the avoidance—often described as willing—of critical thinking and logic in understanding something that is unreal or impossible in reality, such as something in a work of speculative fiction, in order to believe it for the sake of enjoying its narrative."
The Jedi accepting the clones and the clones being slaves isn't a "delicate point". It's barely a point at all!
It's never addressed in the film (because of course it isn't, the Prequels are about Anakin and the Republic, not the clones).
It's only addressed once by Slick, an unreliable narrator, in The Clone Wars.
That's it. Hell, in 2008, when The Clone Wars writer Henry Gilroy was asked to comment on the relationship between clones and Jedi, he explicitly said he'd "rather not get into" that particular point.
Tumblr media
I recently got Mythmaking: Behind the Scenes of 'Attack of the Clones' and nowhere is that detail touched on by Lucas at any point.
Nobody wants to touch on that point with a 10ft pole, because it's not relevant to the story.
So while Traviss acknowledges the Jedi are fictional characters, she doesn't follow that thread through to the end by acknowledging that fictional characters don't have free will, they must abide by the story and the whim of the writer.
She's engaging with the material, but refusing to engage with the narrative. She's having her cake and eating it too.
Tumblr media
My reason for saying all this is that in the book Star Wars on Trial, she elaborates on her thought process upon discovering this detail.
Tumblr media
Shortly before to this, she acknowledges twice that she knew nothing about Star Wars, beside seeing the original films in her youth.
Another writer who saw the new films and saw Mace Windu argue against there being a war...
Tumblr media
... the worry on his face at the prospect of the Jedi being thrown at the Separatists...
Tumblr media
... and the sheer melancholy on Yoda's face upon announcing the Clone War had begun...
Tumblr media
... might have instead wondered how the Jedi, so opposed to war, could've ended up being generals.
Because while we don't see the Jedi openly protest the use of the clones in the film... they're not exactly giddy about it, either. All they can do is watch powerlessly as it gets voted by the Senate.
Tumblr media
"The Jedi are there. But the Jedi aren't really allowed to be involved in the political process. They're there, but they can't suddenly step up and say, "No, no. You can't do that." They have to let the political process go." - George Lucas, Attack of the Clones, Commentary #2, 2002
We also don't see them take on the role of generals, either.
We only see them begrudgingly lead troops on Geonosis, specifically.
Tumblr media
But they're not referred to as "generals" yet.
Another writer might have imagined a scene where after Geonosis, Mace Windu talks to Palpatine thinking the Jedi will go back to their roles as diplomats, and that what we saw in Attack of the Clones was a one-time thing to save Obi-Wan, but Palpatine politely goes:
"Ha! No. Didn't you hear? The Senate was so impressed by your performance on Geonosis that they voted to make you all generals in the GAR. Now, get back to the front."
Another writer might've elected to write them having that "big moral debate" she mentions.
Instead, Traviss immediately jumps on the "Jedi are elitists" train.
Because her personal experience with the military makes her sympathize with the clones and her personal belief is that - while the story may frame the Jedi as "the good guys" - nobody is that good a guy, real life people aren't that pure and selfless. There's gotta be something off about them and aHA! That's what it is!
That's her choosing to take that line of thought instead of one more in-line with the story, because she perceives it as unrealistic. But like... Star Wars isn't real life, it's a fairy tale.
That's like saying:
"The hunter in Little Red Riding Hood commits animal cruelty by cutting the Wolf open. He should've let nature take its course, the wolf earned that meal fair and square. If you think the hunter should've saved Red Riding Hood and her Grandma, then clearly you're the kind of monster who thinks one life is worth more than others."
... no?
The story's narrative clearly portrays the wolf as the villain of the tale and frames the Hunter saving Red Riding Hood as a good thing.
Disagreeing with that narrative is absolutely fine, but anybody who acknowledges the wolf is the bad guy in the story isn't automatically an animal hater and/or a bad person. Just because you say "the wolf is the villain" doesn't mean that you think that, in real life, killing wolves for shits and giggles is good.
Conversely, the narrative of the Prequels asks you to suspend your disbelief and not consider the implications that having a clone army entails. Because the use of clones doesn't have a direct impact on either Anakin or the Senate's stories.

WW3 will be white supremacists vs everyone else.
Not a singular Western country in support of Israel is innocent of colonization, war crimes, treaty violations, or having white supremacists in politics.
Each one of them has been ignoring protests and strikes in their own countries for human rights and protections. Human rights and protections that have thus far been denied btw. Meanwhile they give themselves raises and protections against protesters and so called "terrorists." They inflate military budgets while their people grow more agitated and they don't care.
Not a single one of them have a thriving, happy people.
Historically they've been awful for Black, indigenous, and immigrant populations despite many of their countries being founded on immigration. And even in modern times all of them currently have trials going on to combat state violence such as genocide, rights violations, or police brutality.
None of them have ever been paragons of human rights. None of them represent the world's moral compass least of all Germany.
So why and how is it that you can look at the USA and German support of Israel and your thought is "finally!" instead of seeing a red flag.
White supremacists are teaming up in a Big way.
And this time they're letting white Jewish people count as white which seems to have short-circuited ur brains so let me remind y'all that Nazis hate Jewish people but not every white suprmacist is a Nazi. And white supremacists have a long history of providing white Jewish people with conditional white privileges
For example here in the USA while white men who owned some land could vote, the same could not be said of white Jewish people who were barred from it in some colonies by language that stated you needed to accept Jesus as your savior. But white Jewish ppl could vote & could own land elsewhere when Black and native communities couldn't do that anywhere at all.
White supremacists exploiting white Jewish people for their vote or political support is nothing new and continues to be no surprise.
We can look at Trump's attempt to do exactly that as recently as 2019. We know he isn't an ally of any Jewish person anywhere and yet here he is trying to get right-wingers hyped up with virtue signaling.
The same article addressed how this right wing rhetoric and trying to incite it among Republicans is itself antisemitic and careless.
The past 24 hours have cemented President Donald Trump's reputation as America's "racist in chief." After tweeting a hateful diatribe about how four Democratic congresswomen of color should "go back" to where they came from, the President attempted to justify his racism with accusations that these members of Congress are anti-Israel. On Monday morning, he tweeted that these lawmakers "have made Israel feel abandoned by the U.S." and cited South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, who called them all "anti-America" and "anti-Semitic."
[...]And despite his feigning concern about anti-Semitism, nearly three-quarters of Jews feel less secure than they did two years ago and the majority of Jews attribute their rising insecurity to Trump's policies. More specifically, many are concerned about Trump encouraging right-wing extremism and Republicans tolerating white nationalism within their ranks. In fact, according to a March Gallup poll, more than 70% of Jews continue to disapprove of Trump and only 16% now identify as Republicans.
....then Biden supported a fucking genocide in the name of trying to establish a safe place for Jewish people. When we all know his interest is actually oil in the middle east.
There is no fucking way either of them or the USA cares about any Jewish people or had their best interest in mind.
So that entire argument aside....
We can't keep letting white supremacists play these identity politic games and turning us on each other so we're keeping each other oppressed instead of helping each other be free.
Right now there are white queer people in my asks calling me (an Ojibwe) a Russian psyop for not wanting to vote blue.
That's the shit I'm talking about.
At the end of the day I don't want anyone except white supremacy and white supremacists to be decimated. I want a liberated and free people all over the globe.
Is that what you want too?
Then we have got to start focusing on the big picture. You are not my enemy and I am not yours. Our enemies are the same and they are unified.
We should be too.
International solidarity against white supremacy for the first time, for forever.

Tucker Carlson: Rand Paul is one of the few Republicans in the Senate who understands the threat of Nikki Haley.
He may be the only one who cares where COVID came from. “Anthony Fauci should be in jail,” he says.
Five years later they're still messing with that. How did I know it was a scam from git go, I warned to stay away from the vaccine before they talked about the vaccine? Something tells me they all knew what was going on. Speaking of the great cover-up? Is our government that stupid?
Do you see why people need to wake up now? These crimes against humanity need to end and no offense but your complacency is not helping the situation. Say "NO" to it all!🤔
And I mean EVERYTHING!!! ⚔️ 🛡️

You Really Bug Me
Rating: G Tags: stalking, bugging, König x f!oc/reader, Cowboy au, reader has committed crimes and will commit more Summary: Being a tech wizard has its drawbacks, namely: sometimes the government tries to keep an eye on you. Good thing it's not the government listening to you, but your lovely boyfriend König.
It's when you drag your step stool into the living room to replace the overhead light's bulbs that you notice it. The little metal box hardwired into the fixture has a tiny metal grating you can only assume is a microphone. Your stomach drops. You should have expected to find a bug at some point. You're not... you're not unreasonably paranoid, but you probably brought this on yourself. You know exactly what this is about too.
You leave the bug dangling from your light and go to your office to grab an RF detector. Really you should have been checking, but you're in the middle of nowhere, no one knows you're out here, and you- well you just hadn't been worried. You find another microphone in the bathroom and one with a camera in your bedroom. You chew your lip staring at the bugs. You're tempted to crack your phone open.
Instead you go to your office and thank God that there isn't anything stashed in there. You suppose that's what the lock is for, but it's weird that the feds would be so polite as to ignore a locked door. You grab a shoe box off the bookshelf and drop your phone into its aluminum lined safety. You close the lid tight and do to raid your pantry. Time to be paranoid you suppose. Disconnecting bugs is the best way to let people know that you know about the bugs, so it's better to shut them all off at once, and hope the owners think the problem was on their end.
You're almost finished taping aluminum foil over your lights and windows when König opens your door. You should start locking that. His eyes are wild as they dart around the house. They're sharp and dangerous when they finally land on you, and you press back against your new silver wall coverings to try and avoid them. He cocks his head, taking in your makeshift Faraday cage with something akin to annoyance.
"You're not answering your phone Schatz," He tells you, his voice tight with something. You blink.
"Yes," You tell him. His eyes widen a little further as his shoulders roll back to his full height.
"What did you find?" He asks, you can't place his tone, but it's somewhere dangerous that makes you want to shiver.
"Keep your voice down," You hiss, his eyes lose some of their sharpness for confusion.
"Me?"
"Yes you, who else?" You press, feeling some of the anxiety start to catch up to you now that you aren't focused on radio-proofing your house. "The government is bugging me," You whine, feeling like a kid complaining about not getting a new toy, "how am I supposed to know which information is publicly available? Senators don't label anything." You press the heels of your hands against your eyes, feeling the scratch of soon to come tears. König makes a strange noise, you'd almost call it relief, and before you know it you're bundled in his arms.
"Meine Liebe," He soothes, "how many bugs did you find?"
"Three," You sniffle, he kisses the top of your head, "you doxx one congressman and suddenly you're not entitled to privacy."
König mumbles something in German that you don't catch, and kisses your head again. You like that way he curls around you, protective. You wrap your arms around his waist to keep him close, to bury your face against his chest. His hands rub your back, a firm comfort to your whining and sniffling.
"Why don't you come stay with me for a while liebling," König offers. You shrug, you have animals to feed, and a house to take care of. You really just want these things out of your house. "How about just for tonight?" He compromises. You give him a squeeze, you could do that.
"Ok," You sigh, "but help me get these things disconnected first."

Welcome back to yet another episode of "them having things to say about KOSA"
God forbid KOSA passes, but IF IT DOES, I hope other countries either find a way to circumvent it, OR urge the US to take it back once they realize what a GROSS overstep of boundaries it is.
Either one would be amazing, BOTH would be incredible.
I repeat for the second time: The AMERICAN government is trying to make EVERYONE, including people in OTHER COUNTRIES- adhere to this mass internet censorship law on the WORLD WIDE WEB, that EVERYONE ACROSS THE WORLD USES, under the guise of "ThInK Of thE aMeRiCaN ChIlDrEN!!!!!"
LIKE THATS SO STUPID??? The fact that they're trying to sneak this past us while other horrific things are happening is EQUALLY disgusting. This should be world news. Everybody should be FURIOUS that the Senate is even humoring this.
If KOSA passes and people in other countries start being affected, I hope governments across the world absolutely PUMMEL the US (not through war in case anybody tries to take this out of context, I mean verbally). Call a United Nations meeting or something and absolutely CRACK DOWN.
DESTROY THEM.
Call out every crappy single thing this country has done and use it as leverage against them. Pull out all the stops. Roast them if you want to. Rightfully charge them with the crimes they've committed. Hold them accountable. Literally ANYTHING and EVERYTHING.
Let them know NO peace.
God knows the majority of Americans will be cheering y'all on.
The American government is on a serious power trip. They think that they can do whatever they want with no consequences because they're a world power. The rest of the world can fight back, speak up, and show them that
they.
are.
WRONG.

I hate hate HATE the fact that putin probably has this shit eating grin on his face w all this denial of ukraine aide. I know there are a couple of other packages where congress can piecemeal it in the future but still. Fuck!!!!!!!! HOW is it all so obvious AND so badly done by the Rs lol
It just illustrates the extent to which the GOP has become the Group of Putin on pretty much every level. There are many reasons for this and they are all equally important to understand:
They love Putin anyway because of all the pro-Trump election interference in 2016, and they're hanging their hat on it being just enough to squeak Trump back in for 2024.
They hate Ukraine to start with because a) it was the cause of Trump's first impeachment (the failed extortion of Zelenskyy) and b) it's central to their current flailing and failing attempts to portray Biden as doing some kind of crime in Hunter's business interests there (in Burisma).
They also loathe the idea of democracy in general and think autocrats, especially their buddy Putin, should have the right to do whatever they want, as well as subscribing to the isolationist America Only xenophobia that was also prevalent in the late 1930s right before WWII. So any noble appeals to maintain Ukraine's democracy and freedom hold no water with them, when they're busy trying to destroy those things here in America as well.
They're heavily influenced by Russian dark money and Russian propaganda, which is part of the larger nexus of Russian influence that operates within and enables the European and American far-right in a creating an anti-Western illiberal fascist theocratic far-right global coalition. If you're interested in this topic, I recommend this (excellent but extremely depressing) book.
As such, yes, the growing anti-Ukraine sentiment in the Treason Caucus is giving plenty of unfortunate credence to Putin's hypothesis that if he can just hang on in Ukraine until 2024, the Republicans will get elected/into full power and instantly be able to cancel all US support for Ukraine. Which they would probably do, and which would be an unmitigated calamity for Ukraine, America, and the world, because that's how the Group of Putin likes to roll.
The Kremlin talking heads are thrilled about this entire development, because obviously of course they are.
The budget resolution to keep the government open for the next 45 days doesn't directly affect aid to Ukraine -- at least for now. The previously agreed-upon financial and military assistance will continue to be paid out, and since a new package will have to be negotiated soon anyway, it's highly likely that Ukraine aid will be included either in that one or a separate bill beforehand.
The Senate Republicans, aside from the usual suspects, are generally supportive of aid to Ukraine. To give -- choke, ugh, wheeze -- Mitch Fucking McConnell 0.2% of credit, he has consistently held the old-fashioned anti-Russia pro-Ukraine line against the crass Putin-smoochin' of his comrades, and made sure to appear jointly with Schumer during Zelenskyy's recent visit to DC. However, he is toadstool slime who may well attempt to price in Ukraine support by trying to cut other American domestic programs or Biden accomplishments. So. Mixed bag.
Lindsey Graham, of all people, has also emerged as a high-profile Senate GOP voice for Ukraine support. However, he is a spineless paramecium who will ultimately do whatever Trump tells him, so let's likewise not put too much faith in that.
Biden has already issued a firm statement insisting that US aid can't be disrupted in any circumstances, and there has been a bipartisan Senate statement as well. So there is existing pressure to get a new package done quickly, and an extra $300 million funding for Ukraine (a resolution, however, not a binding legislation) was approved with 300+ votes in the House just a few days ago. So there is still the ability to do it.
The main question is Kevin Fucking McCarthy. He has issued tepid and conditional statements of support for Ukraine (with the usual "we should be spending this money on our southern border!!!" Republican bullshit) and is under pressure to put a new funding bill on the floor quickly, but since the crazies oppose it and also him, he could easily be his usual brand of spineless and delay doing so. He may also try to strip Ukraine aid out of the next full-year budget resolution, which is already going to be enough of a clusterfuck, but he's going to face far more opposition from Democrats who voted for the 45-day funding package to keep the government open for now, but won't accept anything long-term without money for Ukraine.
Anyway. Republicans the worst, McCarthy sucks, Putin sucks, film at 11.

"Rodimus joining the Autobots in Autocracy and being supportive of Optimus makes no sense and is just an example of successful Autobot propaganda b/c he's been exposed to Autobot crimes his whole life and the Autobots forced him to bomb Nyon" will forever be a wild take to me cuz his complete reasoning process is pretty clearly spelled out in the comic? It's like, the main focal point of his entire screentime in Autocracy. For Rodimus there's never been any confusion about the perpetrator behind the "Autobot crimes". There’s Zeta’s crimes and there’s Orion. With a massive distinction between the two. With said distinction being extremely important, because one the first things he says to Orion is literally:
Tumblr media
And why does he believe that Orion's different? Because of Orion's speech to the Senate.
Guess what was in that speech:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The origin of the Autobot name. Orion's idealized vision of the freedom and autonomy that the name was meant to represent. Rodimus knew what the true Autobot values were intended to be before the government took the name for their own purposes, and he identified with those values enough to straight up put his life into Orion's hands:
Tumblr media
Not just his own life. Everyone in the Acropolex. Everyone in Nyon. Betting on nothing but Orion's conscience. Why would he do this if he didn't already believe Orion to be a good person worthy of a gamble on his trust? If he didn't believe that Orion still held true to his words in the Senate? He knows that Zeta's out for his blood, that Zeta cares nothing about his citizens except bleeding them dry. He's always known the true depths of government atrocities, he lived in the worst of it his whole life. It's why he wired the whole city with bombs as contingency, he always knew it would come down to something like this. But if he thought that Zeta and Orion were no different for their part in the "Autobot crimes", then why would he take Orion to the Acropolex, to see the most vulnerable suffering of their people, and expect him to care enough to side with them against his own government?
Tumblr media
Even on the brink of being forced to destroy his own home he's still very aware of who's the real enemy here. After their meeting he's certain that Orion's Autobots are on his side, it was their diversion that bought them enough time to get himself and the few he could out of detonation range. Zeta wants to kill all of them; they're all victims here. Rodimus never blamed Nyon's destruction on anyone other than Zeta, least of all Orion's group.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imo this... is a completely appropriate and empathetic response to Rodimus' grief? like he does make leadership sound all doom and gloom but it is an accurate reflection of Rodimus' feelings (as well as his own) and he's telling Rodimus that it's okay to feel that way b/c he feels like that too!
The "you faced an impossible situation" bit is just stating the plain truth. Orion isn't condoning or condemning Rodimus' decision, it's not his place to do so. He wasn't the one forced into making the choice, Rodimus was. Rodimus made his choice and now has to live with it. Orion could only offer understanding. like idk what else he could have said, it's not even his place to offer absolution, because even though Rodimus feels guilty he doesn't regret anything. When he defended himself to Bumblebee he used the exact same words Orion did: he did what he had to do.
Tumblr media
If the trust he placed in Orion before in the Acropolex was a wild bid in the face of desperation, then the trust that he's placing in Orion now—admitting his guilt and grief, showing vulnerability—is purely of his own choice. To which Orion reciprocated by revealing the weight of his own burdens. This is the kind of interaction that friends share. Which means they're friends now. Is it so unreasonable for Rodimus to want to follow the leadership of a friend, someone whose speech against the Senate that he'd admired, someone who he believed to be different and proved himself as worthy of his trust, someone who he fought beside and saved each other's lives and shared his desire for peace?
Claiming that Rodimus would be averse against joining the Autobots due to their past complicity in crimes under Zeta is vastly misunderstanding his character b/c he's not the type of person who thinks like that. Like for one thing he'd never let historical grudges get in the way of progressing towards a better future (think Lost Light and Megatron). It also completely misses the point of his scene with Orion in the Acropolex, which is about believing the best in people and making the right choices going forward when presented with past mistakes. Also Rodimus isn't stupid he's well aware that Zeta's Autobot cause and Orion's Autobot cause are two completely different things. The first thing Optimus did after becoming Prime was to renounce the old government. Being an Autobot under Optimus would be restoring honour and integrity to the name. if anything that should come off as extra appealing to him cuz he likes restoring stuff like Cyberutopia and the Golden Age.
"Rodimus should join the Decepticons" makes even less sense. Rodimus does come onscreen as an established Decepticon sympathizer but if you think about it his contact with Decepticons is limited to them providing him with weapon supplies. It's a vendor-patron relationship and their goal is to overthrow the government with propaganda keywords being "freedom" "equality" "emancipation" of course he would be a sympathizer. It's a noble cause if looked at from afar. But once the events of Nyon happens he's suddenly forced to get all up and close with Megatron and his higher-ups. and what does he see.
This is how Megatron fought Zeta:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is what Megatron did to Orion:
Tumblr media
This is how Decepticons treat their allies, right after announcing public amnesty:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is Megatron's opinion of Zeta, after everything he did:
Tumblr media
This is Megatron's idea of entertainment:
Tumblr media
After seeing all that, isn't it perfectly natural for Rodimus to arrive at this conclusion regarding Megatron and the Decepticons:
Tumblr media
Oh my god I can't believe I ever trusted these thugs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that he's seen for himself that the Decepticons are the opposite of freedom, Orion trying to arrest Swindle at the beginning of the comic would have made sense to him. He now gets why they were fighting the Decepticons so hard.
That's basically the whole thought process for Rodimus joining the Autobots. The logic's pretty sound. There's no "Autobot propaganda" involved anywhere. Rodimus was the one who sought Orion out to make him choose his side. Rodimus was the one who rescued the Autobots from Megatron. Rodimus was the one who asked to join. The Autobots never tried to recruit him.

If you need another reason to vote:
Last week (September 13th, 2022), Senator Lindsay Graham introduced a bill that would ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.
While Republican members of congress are hesitant to endorse said bill, the vibe is mostly that they're worried it'll affect midterms.
This is not good! While Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has claimed he believes abortion laws should be left to the states, he'll likely be the one deciding if this abortion ban goes to vote in Congress. We have no idea if he'll refuse to bring this bill to the voting floor.
Other Republicans have stayed quiet about whether or not they'd support a federal abortion ban. Republicans that initially had a staunch anti-abortion stance are now back-tracking saying they're against all abortion except those that threaten the life of the pregnant person, cases of rape, or cases of incest.
Pretty much every Republican is repeating this line, suggesting that this is a decision to win over voters, not their actual beliefs.
What's most likely going to happen is Republicans are going to denounce Graham's bill until abortion is no longer as widely talked about as it is now.
And if they have majorities in both the House and Senate, they can pass this bill before any of us can even do anything.
So what can we do?
Right now, we need to vote, vote, vote.
Here's a list of all the voter registration deadlines by state. Many states require you to register to vote 3-4 weeks before election day. That means you'll need to register to vote by the beginning of October.
If you will be 18 by election day, you can register to vote!!!!
This is the case in pretty much every state, but check the above link to see your state's laws.
Vote.org is a great resource to register to vote, view your registration status, send in a mail ballot, find drop-box locations or your polling place, and even get a breakdown of voting laws in your country.
They also have a countdown timer to election day and will send you election day reminders by text if you opt in.
But Dems don't Do anything! Why should I vote for them?
Look, I see you and I completely understand your anger and pain. When democrats suddenly started introducing abortion protections after Roe was overturned, I was pissed. I even stopped donating to the DNC (and I still haven't donated since). I didn't want to hear about their anger and sadness at this shocking turn of events.
But doing nothing is just going to ensure Conservatives win elections again and again. The more democrats there are in office, the more progressive legislation can be introduced.
So organize your protests and take to the streets. Protesting is just as valuable a source of change as voting.
But don't just stop voting altogether.
What if I can't get to the polls?
If your state allows absentee voting, you can request a mail ballot here.
If you don't have a car and need to vote in person, RideShare2Vote offers free round trip rides to polling locations on election day. You can even volunteer to be a driver on election day if you have your own car.
If you have to work on election day, check here to see if your state has time off to vote laws. Some states require advance notice of an intention to vote and may even provide PTO for a few hours while you're voting. Again. This varies by state, so use the handy drop-down menu to see the laws in your state. Some states will fine or even revoke a company's corporate charter if they deny an employee the right to vote, so use your rights, dammit!
Also consider speaking with your manager or employer to see if you can arrange your work schedule so you have time to vote. You just need to be in line before the polls close, whether that's a minute or an hour before. You have the right to vote even if the polls close while you're in line. Anyone who tries to deny you the right to vote despite this is committing a serious crime.
The best advice I can give is to make a plan now! If you have your transportation and time off from work planned, you'll be able to vote with a little less stress.
What if I'm disabled and have trouble voting?
According to NPR, "83% of polling places posed at least one impediment for voters with disabilities". A little less than 40% of polling locations aren't equipped to let disabled people cast their votes privately (y'know. One of the core rights citizens have?).
If you're unsure whether or not your polling place is accessible, or if you've had trouble voting in the past, find your polling place and local election office, and contact your election office. They may be able to let you vote curbside, or mail in a ballot. This can vary by location so finding this out in advance can be helpful.
Remember, it's your right to vote. If you're having trouble with accessibility at a polling place, contact your election office so you can receive accommodations.
You should also know that you have the right to use any equipment to help you vote, even if it hasn't been offered to you. So make those requests if you're voting at a machine or in-person. And make sure you take your time. If you feel rushed, remind the poll workers that voting is a right everyone is reserved, regardless of how convenient it is for others.
If you need assistance while voting, you're allowed to bring one person with you. They can be anyone except a union rep or your boss. Poll workers are also required to assist you if you're struggling to vote.
Poll workers may question your ability or right to vote if you have a mental disability. This is absolutely disgusting and if this happens, stand firm. If your name is on the roster, you can vote, regardless of the poll worker's opinions on the matter.
But unfortunately, you might need to receive legal advice on your rights while voting. Check the National Disability Rights Network to find an agency near you that can assist you.
If you're already at the polls and you're experiencing trouble, call 866-OUR-VOTE for on-demand legal help from a lawyer. If you need assistance and you're deaf or hard of hearing, there's a video call option if you call 301-818-VOTE
But what if I can't wait in a long line due to my disability?
Fun fact! If you have a disability that makes it difficult or impossible to stand in long lines, you have the right to be moved to the front of the line. And don't be embarrassed if you have to ask for this accommodation. Your personal health is important and you don't have to sacrifice it just to vote.
If the polling location is just not accessible, call your local election office or speak with the poll supervisor. It doesn't matter if it takes 5 minutes or 8 hours for you to vote, you have the right to cast your ballot, even if the polls close, so don't. Leave!
Below is a list of sources I used in this post along with voting resources linked above. I figure it would be easier to put them in one place rather than only scattered through the post:
Lindsay Graham introduces abortion ban
Republican reactions to Graham's bill

Request a mail ballot

I remember reading on history books about so-called "democratic" leaders that became unhinged and dangerous and wondering how that could happen without no one doing anything. Same with Holocaust, apartheid and genocides.
Now we're witnessing it all happen live.
Netanyahu is dangerous, unhinged and so out of control they can't hide it any longer. He and his Government officials are openly making comments that justify genocide against Palestinians. They're committing war crimes left and right and yet if anyone dares to criticise them, they threaten, act like they're morally superior and emotionally blackmail people with the nazis rhetoric. The same horrific things Jews suffered decades ago they're now doing to others. They will tell you how bad it was when it happened to them then turn around and say there's nothing wrong with it when they're on the other side of the fence.
They're holding all Western leaders hostage just by playing the "but the nazis..." card. No one is really allowed to call them out just cause someone was once unbelievably cruel to them? So if someone beats me up and then years layer I beat someone else for no reason either and they try to arrest me, am I allowed to get away with it by whining about the time I was the attacked one? Not buying it.
Now they're daring to threat UN and demand that the Secretary General steps aside over this comments that are pretty mild considering the gravity of their crimes. If UN caves on this then nothing will stop him and he'll lead us all to WWIII.
Netanyahu and Israel are trying to become some world dictatorship where they get to dictate what everyone is allowed to say or think. They are the only special ones allowed to do as they want with no repercussions, no laws to follow. Rules are for others cause once Hitler hated them so now they have to do whatever they want to "defend" themselves. All because he feels so cozy and safe having the USA on his side. I bet most of us have seen that hidden camera footage of him saying he will get rid of Palestians but no one will dare to call them out cause they will say they're defending themselves and America will control the narrative for them. There's also that video of a younger Senator Biden saying how Israel is the best 3billion investment USA has ever made and if Israel didn't exist they would have to create it (they already created it but whatever)
World Leaders and UN need to grow some b*lls and stop acting so scared of him. He needs to be put back in his place. He's President of one country not whole humanity and he for sure isn't above anyone else.
Why is it so easy to sanction Putin but whenever it's Netanyahu politicians act as if they're scared or in debt with him?
He has become what he claims to hate and he needs to be held accountable.

Theatre and Pom Poms
Fic by @arrow-of-ravenclaw | Art by @evolpollito
Teen | 14k words
Michelle Wheeler is one of the most popular girls in school. However, after she and a few friends are arrested over winter break, Michelle's Mom comes up with an interesting punishment: she has to help out during the school's production of The Prom. It's not the worst, right? Except that means she'll be close to her arch-enemy, Willow Byers. Things get more complicated when Michelle and Willow are cast as the show's romantic leads.
Homophobia, attempted gun violence
Read on Ao3 | View Art
Read an excerpt below:
Three teenage girls in cheer uniforms stood in a cell on a cold December night. The group leader, Michelle Wheeler, had her face pressed against the bars. Her two friends, Dianna Henderson, and Lucy Sinclair, sat in one of the corners. The three friends had been caught, TP-ing their school's drama teacher. Mr. Clarke. "We can't be arrested," Dianna said. "This will go on my permanent record! I'm applying to schools!"
"Permanent records aren't a real thing," Michelle said. "That is something teachers made up to scare students. Besides, no school is going to deny you for a minor crime. If they did, those schools would barely let anyone in." One of the officers, Jim Hopper, entered the room. "Ms. Wheeler," he called. "Your Mom is here."
"Great," Michelle said. I'd rather spend the night in jail.
---
When Michelle arrived at the front, she saw her Mom was very not happy. Karen Wheeler's arms were crossed, and, if looks could kill, the look on Karen's face could've killed the entire population of Indiana. "I've got it from here, officer," Karen said.
"Alright, Senator Wheeler," Jim said. "Have a good evening."
Jim disappeared to deal with Lucy and Diana. "What were you thinking?" Karen shrieked. "Do you know how embarrassing this is for me? To have my daughter be arrested? Are you aware that this is going to harm my reelection campaign?"
"I'm sorry," Michelle muttered.
"Sorry won't cut it," Karen snapped.
"So, what?" Michelle asked. "Are you going to ground me? Are you going to take away my phone for the entire break?"
"Oh, no," Karen said. "Mr. Clarke and I have already planned your punishment. He loved this plan so much that he agreed not to press charges if we went through with it. Your cheer skills will be used for something new this semester. You're going to be the co-choreographer for the school musical. They're doing The Prom. I've never heard of it, but you better learn quickly."

Let's have a conversation about narrative and storytelling.
When writing a story, before the first words even hit the page, you have to choose who is going to be the villain, and who is the hero. When you craft that story, it is told from that prospective, one side right, the other wrong.
This post is narrative storytelling.
I am not saying Ali Jazeeria is wrong. They are a news organization, they are reporting the news. If anything, this post is a warning to the liberals, the Democrats, and white people as a whole.
However. What liberals and white people will do if Biden loses to Trump in 2024 is blame the Muslims. Only the Muslims.
This is the truth of the story. Muslims are not the only ones refusing to vote for Biden in 2024.
Governments in colonized countries around the world are refusing to listen to their people screaming, demanding, crying for a ceasefire as their feeds are flooded with blood. Body parts. And broken hearts. There are people who have dedicated their time to making posts calling for animal rights organizations to call for a ceasefire. Because if they don't care about the people. They're care about the animals, right? People have made it new routines to call their senators and reps to demand a ceasefire. To block holiday parades, and tree lightening. The pressure has never been tighter. Voices never higher.
But, In November, when Biden loses (because he will) to either Claudia de la Cruz, Jasmine Sherman, or (gods above and below us forbid) Donald Trump. It will be the Muslims who will bare the blame.
It will be their convenient bodies that we lay our sins upon and cast into the wild to forgive ourselves of inaction.
Come November 2024, when Biden is frog marched out of the White House and into International Court to stand trial for War Crimes and aiding and abetting a genocide, whoever his successor is will either be someone we support, or someone we must be vigilant against.
If it is Trump, we must not let our Muslim brothers and sisters bare the burden of the blame from white liberals and democrats. We must fight alongside them, combating misinformation and blame everywhere we are, and everywhere we see it.
Remember: stories have villains. And most of the time they are chosen before you know the story.

CW: extreme transphobia, political violence, Don't Say Gay, trans genocide, 2024 election
I was made aware today of the GOP's "Mandate for Leadership" document today, which is a giant policy wishlist for conservatives and business execs for the first 180 days of a Republican presidential election victory in 2024. What they want is beyond extreme. This article from Dame Magazine covers it, and I'll put it below the break because it really is as bad as the CW makes it out to be. tldr, conservatives quite literally want all trans people locked up or dead, if you're an adult in the U.S. and can vote, vote blue no matter who. idc what arguments you make, you vote blue to stop this from happening.
Conservatives are trying to build off the anti-woke culture war that has proven broadly unpopular and has shot the leg off DeSantis' campaign. Some of the biggest conservatives policy orgs and think tanks are pushing this and it is the most threatening, unconstitutional shit imaginable.
They are fully embracing the "unitary executive theory", where the president has total power over the executive department and its agencies (anything labelled "Department," the EPA, etc) with no Congressional oversight whatsoever. It's a ridiculous, flatly illegal doctrine to try and act within, but conservatives have shown they do not care about the law and are going to do whatever the hell they want if they can. They want to use this total power over the executive branch to politically influence the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the courts into prosecuting political enemies (revenge for grand juries charging Trump with well over 100 felonies over crimes he provably committed) and forcing blue states to turn over all trans people they are sheltering for prosecution. Prosecution of what? Anything. Sex crimes applied to trans people existing in public, whether in person or online, because "what if a minor sees this perversion?"
States like California and Maryland have enacted safe harbor laws, meaning any trans people fleeing a red state, say, Texas, will not be extradited back to Texas for wearing makeup around a child. It means that these states will not recognize efforts by other states to essentially kidnap trans people. This document shows that conservatives want to use a political DOJ to threaten district attorneys in those states into turning over any and all trans people they're harboring. Stuff like this would be made way easier with KOSA (Kids Online Safety Act, S.1409), requiring Internet service providers to share a lot for personal data with the federal government. The Republican Senator who introduced it, Blackburn, has said it would be used to target trans people. While I have reached out to both my senators about this and Warnock and Ossoff have both told me they are no votes, it's still far too widely supported in the Senate. (Btw fuck Sen. Blumenthal, he's been on this anti-privacy bent for years and I hope he gets primaried and made completely irrelevant just for introducing this bill.)
What does this mean for trans people in 2024? Simple. If you value trans rights, and you are eligible to vote in the U.S., vote for the Democratic Party.
Greens stand less of a chance in defeating any Republican presidential nominee than I stand swimming across the Pacific. 2024 cannot be a "I don't like either party" election, it cannot be a "both sides" election because while I curse Blumenthal and other Democrats for going along with stuff like KOSA, they are not actively genocidal and many rail against the attacks people like DeSantis and MTG have levied against us. This cannot be a "let's just do a revolution" election cycle because yeah you're just going to organize a proletarian revolution in 400 days, overthrow the U.S. government, and install a functioning proletarian-focused queer-protecting government without it immediately backfiring from any number of potential fuckups that come with revolution.
Vote Democrat. Tell your friends to vote Democrat. Vote down the ballot. Phone bank, canvas, hell join a campaign. I made calls in 2020 with a nonprofit to get out votes for GA senate runoffs, those orgs were vital in those campaigns. When it comes to political pragmatism for this issue, the 2024 presidential election is the best way to affect the change we want.
Trans people cannot have our rights stripped this completely from us because a few hundred thousand people in a few key states go "oh yeah I like cornell west, my vote doesn't matter anyways so what's the harm voting third-party?"
“Pornography, manifested today in the omnipresent propagation of transgender ideology and sexualization of children, for instance, is not a political Gordian knot inextricably binding up disparate claims about free speech, property rights, sexual liberation, and child welfare. It has no claim to First Amendment protection. Its purveyors are child predators and misogynistic exploiters of women. Their product is as addictive as any illicit drug and as psychologically destructive as any crime. Pornography should be outlawed. The people who produce and distribute it should be imprisoned. Educators and public librarians who purvey it should be classed as registered sex offenders. And telecommunications and technology firms that facilitate its spread should be shuttered.”
There's your fucking harm.

GARAK: If you can allow your anger to subside for a moment, you'll see that they did not die in vain. The Romulans will enter the war. SISKO: There's no guarantee of that. GARAK: Oh, but I think that there is. You see, when the Tal Shiar finishes examining the wreckage of Vreenak's shuttle, they'll find the burnt remnants of a Cardassian optolythic data rod which somehow miraculously survived the explosion. After painstaking forensic examination, they'll discover that the rod contains a recording of a high level Dominion meeting at which the invasion of Romulus was being planned. SISKO: And then they'll discover that it is a fraud! GARAK: No, I don't think they will, because any imperfections in the forgery will appear to be a result of the explosion. So, with a seemingly legitimate rod in one hand and a dead senator in the other, I ask you, Captain, what conclusion would you draw? SISKO: That Vreenak obtained the rod on Soukara and that the Dominion killed him to prevent him from returning to Romulus with it. GARAK: Precisely. And the more the Dominion protests their innocence, the more the Romulans will believe they're guilty because it's exactly what the Romulans would have done in their place. That's why you came to me, isn't it, Captain? Because you knew I could do those things that you weren't capable of doing. Well, it worked. And you'll get what you want, a war between the Romulans and the Dominion. And if your conscience is bothering you, you should soothe it with the knowledge that you may have just saved the entire Alpha Quadrant and all it cost was the life of one Romulan senator, one criminal, and the self-respect of one Starfleet officer. I don't know about you, but I'd call that a bargain.
[Sisko's quarters]
SISKO: At oh eight hundred hours, station time, the Romulan Empire formally declared war against the Dominion. They have already struck fifteen bases along the Cardassian border. So, this is a huge victory for the good guys. This may even be the turning point of the entire war. There's even a 'Welcome to the Fight' party tonight in the wardroom. So I lied, I cheated, I bribed men to cover the crimes of other men. I am an accessory to murder. But most damning thing of all, I think I can live with it. And if I had to do it all over again, I would. Garak was right about one thing. A guilty conscience is a small price to pay for the safety of the Alpha Quadrant, so I will learn to live with it. Because I can live with it. I can live with it. Computer, erase that entire personal log.

I rarely post anything original (or political) on Tumblr, but this is one of those moments where I can't sit by.
----------
The people of the Philippines need international coverage now more than ever. We're at the risk of letting the son of a dictator sit at the president's seat. We're at the risk of another Ferdinand Marcos (Jr.; nicknamed BongBong Marcos/BBM) Ferdinand Marcos Sr., the dictator that declared Martial Law, which caused 3,000+ deaths, 34,000+ tortured (in so many different horrific ways), 70,000+ to be imprisoned, and hundreds of billions of pesos* to be plundered for their greed.
(Pesos = PH currency)
It would have been very different if the son acknowledged and denounced the crimes his father had done to our people. It would have been different if he paid his estate tax (203B afaik). But he hasn't. He refuses to acknowledge these things. And so we risk history revisionism. We can't allow our history to be changed to suit these people's desire.
The dictator has been dead many years already. But his mother still pulls the strings. His mother, Imelda Marcos, who has over 3,000+ pairs of expensive shoes, who so badly wanted to have an animal "oasis" that she had her husband's military force a village of 450+ families to leave so that she could use that land for the animals. (Which, by the way, they shouldn't even be there. Those animals were bought with a portion of the Marcos' ill-gotten wealth)
The Marcoses fled with their ill-gotten wealth when the people of the Philippines finally decided to fight back during the EDSA People Power Revolution in 1986. They were exiled to Hawaii. They were permitted to return to the Philippines in 1991 by then-President Corazon Aquino so that they may face the charges being placed against them. Marcos Sr. died in 1989, before the family was permitted to return.
Imelda unsuccessfully ran for president a year after returning, but lost (thankfully). But her children BBM and Imee Marcos both won seats in the House of Representatives. Then later they would both win seats in the Senate. Bear in mind, neither of these children ever denounced their parents' evil doings. They always called for fake news.
And now, more than two decades later, we're at the risk of Marcos Jr. becoming president. The elections are being rigged as his sister, Imee, is the current Chairperson of COMELEC*. The appointees of COMELEC right now are all appointed by current President Rodrigo Duterte, whose daughter, Sara Duterte, is running for Vice President under the same camp as BBM. Yet another political dynasty.
(COMELEC = Commission of Elections)
They're apparently "done counting" over 80% of the votes when, oh-so-coincidentally, there are hundreds of voting machines that are apparently malfunctioning, so many missing/broken SD cards, and vote buying. Not to mention the hundreds of people in multiple precincts that still haven't even voted (I could be wrong as of now, since I'm posting this a day late)
As I type this, tens of thousands of my people prepare to march once again in protest against these rigged decisions. They're being red-tagged* as terrorists, even though people are peacefully walking, standing for what's right.
(Red-tagged = being identified/tagged and put under a terrorist watch-list)
Please. If you can, spread this message to as many places as you can. We're all still fighting so hard to prevent this from happening. We need the Leni Robredo-Kiko Pangilingan camp to win. They're the only ones who can keep these two from winning. We're desperate.
Please.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
One Nihlus and Crisis Company, coming right up! (under the cut for lenth purposes) Gonna stop trying to format it and just post it cause this website likes to shit itself anytime you use its own built in features
What Do they want to be Remembered as?
Nihlus: Doesn't want to be remembered, and actually goes out of his way to make sure he is generally never perceived in the first place. To Nihlus, for Nihlus, knowledge about him is a weapon against him. Better to pass through most of life like a ghost. Jet: Wants to be remembered as a smart Captain and a Good Man if he can, someone effective and reliable at what he does. Jet would have deserted the GAR after Geonosis if he didn't believe in the cause of protecting the innocent from the horror of separatist occupation and destruction, because he doesn't believe in the republic itself. He doesn't want to be a hero or maintain a system, he just wants to end the suffering. Margo: She want to do something cool! Mostly just wants to be remembered as that awesome uncle that fixes everything everyone needs Cynic: Would love to be a beloved artist. He wants people to want what he makes. He wants to be remembered for what he can do rather than what he is. Many of his watercolor sketches already sit framed on the walls of Mary Ann's fine dining restaurants, so it could be a reality if the galaxy is kind to him. Heron: Doesn't want to be remembered by anyone except those closest to him. People would be harder to lure in to back alleys to try and mug him if they know to stay away from the guy with the prosthetic leg. And how can he commit crimes against the force gods if no one attacks him first? Lake: Chronically unsure, Lake thinks he wants to be remembered as a decent guy all things considered. Thinks they're all going to be remembered as monsters, but whatever. That's whoever comes next's problem to deal with, he's just trying to have fun and stay alive. Torch: Torch doesn't care if or how he's remembered after he's gone, he's also just here to have a good time while he can. His captain would probably say he's going to be remembered as a goofy problem soldier, but he's going to be remembered as absolutely devotional to his squad, and an excellent sharpshooter. Sprig: He wants to be remembered like a kickass fantasy spy advisor like leliana or zeveran from dragon age. Course the only reason they're deeds are known is because they're part of a video game. Maybe.... he thinks about writing a blackmail book. It would highly embarrass so many senators and office officials for petty (usually illegally so) shit, but that's what they get for legally making him the guy who had to deal with all the bomb threats by chance of birth. Empty buildings give him time to riffle through their shit.
-
Do they trust people easily? How easily will they turn their back to someone? Have they been backstabbed before? Will they betray someone if given an ultimatum?
Nihlus: He trusts trustworthy people.... as long as they aren't Jedi or Sith. Anyone capable of resisting his ability to unconditionally access their thoughts and intentions is an eventual threat even if they chose not to resist him.
-He doesn't do things for the good of doing it, if he wants to help even at risk to himself, he really has to like someone. Otherwise that honor is reserved for his clan, for whom he would give himself at the lightest provocation.
-Nihlus ended up in the Era of the Clone Wars due to being locked into a stasis chamber in his archive meant for fragile documents by his former master and oldest friend, Kishta, who had lured him in there to prevent his attempted assassination of the sith emporor for the destruction of his previous clan
- Nihlus is physcially incapable of betraying any of his squad no matter the cost (one of Jets orders), nor would he want to if he could. that is trust for Nihlus. Anyone else is fair game to whatever else serves the needs of him and his people
Jet: Has a healthy suspicion of others because to do otherwise would be irresponsible, but it does not stop him from reaching out, from trying, when he feels that the person is worth it
- Jet will never turn his back on his squad, his family, by his own admission. Has, though, on numerous occasions given some orders that put them in unnecessary danger for appearances sake. no one is perfect.
-Jet has never been truly back-stabbed, but he has been lied to on numerous occasions
-Jet... is initially ready to trade Nihlus life if and when he has to, for the sake of his squad and their family, as was his deal when becoming the Siths Captain. However, the longer he has him, the less likely he is to actually do so. Would not be able to choose between the lives of his squad even if their lives depended on it.
Margo: She trusts hard and fast, but if her trust is ever completely lost... that's it. Good fucking luck ever getting it back.
- Puts her trust in her Captain, and would turn her back on anyone he deemed it necessary for. Otherwise, she goes with her gut to do what she thinks she has to, to be able to sleep soundly at night.
- There have been several times where Margorashly believes they have been betrayed, by Nihlus... by Jet... by militia allies... for the first two it turned out alright, the last one... is still up for debate
- Will betray anyone she has to, to protect their family. She's the second in command, and that saddles her with a certain level of responsibility damn whatever her own morals say.
Cynic: Does not trust a single soul outside of their squad, although its less of a "all of you are sus" and more of a "none of you are reliable"
- it's not turning your back on people if you weren't really going to help them in the first place. Anyone who isn't squad is just fodder for the cause, although he has far more of an affinity towards helping other clones than to even looking a natborns way
- you can only be backstabbed by people you trust and he believes his squad wouldnt do that, everything else is just an unanticipated attack
- has a tier list of who he would trade for who within his squad if he had to that he would never tell anyone else about. It's not based on who he likes best, but rather who he thinks would be able to best keep the squad going
Heron: Doesn't trust easily outside his squad, that's how you get caught. and he hates nothing more than when the jig is up, tehee
- easily, he'll easily turn his back on people (who arent his crew). The only people worth sticking your neck out for are the ones as willing to kill for you as they are to die for you.
- Definately thought Nihlus did that one thing that one time like Margo but was also wrong, although he didn't take it as personally as she did. He is well aware there are worse people them him out there.
- has a tier list like Cynic does. two, actually. one that he publically shifts around as a joke anytime someone fucks with him, and the real one that he holds close to his heart.
Lake: Wants to believe the best in people at all times, genuinely wants to
- would, in the opinion of much of the rest of his crew, would give his life too easily in order to do the right thing. would not easily turn his back on anyone that needed help
- All the time, if by back-stabbed you mean 'dissapointed', Torch is too cautious though, so Lake has never had the chance to be seriously betrayed
- Would never betray his crew outright, no matter what. the morality of his crew matters less than the vows he has made to them. Has been given an ultimatum before, and he made his choice.
Torch: Wants to believe the best in people, but always expects the worst, he has to. it's kept them alive before, and it will do so again.
- will trust easily, and will break that trust easily if he thinks he detects the slightest threat. His squad comes first, always. Will tattle on them to the Captain if he thinks it'll be funny though.
- His initial fuck-ups almost cost his training batch their spots in the GAR, but they didn't have to throw him as under the bus for it as hard as they did
- Will die with his crew before he betrays them, but if he thinks accepting the initial offer will get him a way to help, he can put up a pretty convincing front
Sprig: Trust is hard earned with Sprig, but he notices potential and offers tentative trust accordingly
- socially, he will not be caught unawares. he's spent too long watching people.
- Has never been truely betrayed. had brothers who told him they'd come back who never did, but it's hard to blame the dead, isnt it?
- Sprig will betray anyone he has to, again, for his crew. Jet built this squad well. for his crew? He also has a list of who's life comes first. like the others, his isnt on top of his own.
Random angst headcanon?
Nihlus: Sometimes he looks in the mirror tries to grin and wishes he could smile in full like he could when he was young and happy and didn't had nerve damage over a full third of his face
Jet: gets migraines from his numerous head injuries
Margo: Several of the squad she commanded before she became Jets second died very soon after she transferred, and sometimes she wonders if she had turned him down whether or not she could have done anything to prevent it
Cynic: feels a lot of insecurity initially over his place in the squad, although he doesn't show it, since it was Margo that requested (demanded) he join with her rather than Jet offering.
Heron: Gets phantom cramps in a foot that no longer exists if he leans on that side for too long without a cane, and nothing except straight 'sith magic' has ever seemed to help make it go away
Lake: For better (and through worse) Lake will stay by Torch's side, no matter how often he ethically disagrees with the rest of their squad, because the rest of their batch is DEAD and Lake will be damned if he loses his last batcher, no matter what sort of monster he has to become to keep them that way.
Torch: Constantly puts up a front of whimsy because he's afraid that what he has underneath it isnt worth loving.
Sprig: So, so scared of dying. It's one of the reasons he transfered out of the ordinence corps
-
What do people assume about them? Are they right?
Nihlus: People often see Nihlus' lightsabers and lack of clone armor when the squad is together and assume that he's either the Jedi, or the one in Charge. They are oh so very wrong on both accounts. He will get really pissy if they're stubborn about trying to talk to him over his Captain about mission shit he could really not care any less about. Jet: People assume that the Sith is some how mind controlling his Captain into doing what he wants, when he wants. Jet just scoffs in Blood Oath and orders Nihlus to scrub the refreshers for the third time this month as punishment for breaking some ships rules or ditching drills to hang around Kix, again. Margo: People often assume she's a mechanic, when she's just a tech. Sure, she dabbles in machinery, but she's much more capable on the software than the hardware aspect of technology. She can rewire the engines power cells but for the grace of the force don't ask her what model of spark plug the damn thing needs. Cynic: People assume that by his name and attitude, he hates fun. a real stick up his ass stick in the mud. Truth is he's an early twenty-somethings man trying to make the most of things, he's just a little pessimistic, like, all the time. Absolute party animal otherwise Heron: People assume that as a Medic he's a real 'save everyone you can, do the least amount of harm' mildly Hippocratic oath inclined kinda guy like a majority of the medical professionals in the GAR. Unfortunately, he has... serial killer tendencies. Bit of a god complex, Giver and Taker of Life kinda thing. See enough guys with your face die under you hands and your knife and it's bound to do something, warp you in some way. Lake: People may assume that as like, one of the few people with a truely morally compassionate compass of the group, that Lake would be the weak link to press on to coerce into betraying the squad, but they would be very, very wrong. He values his families life above all others, just not his own. Torch: His whimsical nature might trick one into thinking he's a fool, but Torch is actually one of the most tactically brilliant soldiers in Crisis Company, and has the best aim out of all of them. He's just... occasionally taken over by the urge to Have a Good Time. Sprig: Is a real Seems like a Cinnamon Roll, Could Kill You, kinda guy. Really great at drawing people into just talking. In reality, he's filling it all away to use at a later date should it come in handy. (rarely does it, so he always just comes off as a peoples person)

The House of Representatives move to ban TikTok
Now that I have your attention… Actually, there is no joke. That's pretty much what's happening.
The primary reason the US is doing this is because of the thousands of TikTok videos that are showing Israel's war crimes against the Palestinians. And that alone is what's leading to the people of Congress to want to ban the app.
They don't want the IDF war crimes exposed, because then they're all complicit. They're also scared of not having a monopoly on the world's social media apps. Twitter is owned by a US billionaire, as is Facebook, YouTube, etc. But TikTok has Chinese investors, and the lack of control that the US has makes them scared.
On top of which, this is something that they can't really profit off of. The aforementioned social media sites spy on our data and basically sell that data to advertisers. TikTok doesn't really do that. At least, not to Western Corporations.
However, a major aspect of this is that this proves that the government could easily do things such as increasing funding for education or infrastructure, implement Universal Healthcare or UBI, or even just LITERALLY ANYTHING THAT ISN'T WAR.
And while things aren't as dire as it seems, as it still needs to pass the Senate and the President still needs to sign off on it, the overwhelming amount of votes that wanted it to get taken off shows just how much these assholes would prefer to keep their AIPAC money than to actually improve things for their constituents.
Congress is already low in peoples who approve of them, and this will make them go even lower.
