Chapter 21

23rd January 1993, Part 2

"Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!", Theodora cheered beyond excited as Andrew, accompanied by Mr Rabbit, stuck his head through the door of Charlie Shelburne's office, where she was still helping the Earl with his correspondence, but immediately jumped up from his lap and ran over to Andrew who opened his arms for her, picking her up and twirling her around which made the little girl chuckle and giggle. "How's my little Princess?", he asked her after they'd ended their little cuddle session and sat down on the sofa together, Thea taking place between Andrew and Mr Rabbit whose long, fluffy ears she immediately fell in love with. "Thank you, Daddy, he's sooo cute!", she gushed, pressing the bunny against herself. "I'm happy you like him! You know, I saw him standing outside Buckingham Palace, obviously searching for a little girl to love and play with him.", he told her in all seriousness, and Thea's eyes widened in excitement. "So I quickly stopped and let him hop in.", he went on, adding: "... and he wasn't the only friend I met there. I brought Sir." "Sir is here???", Thea asked and her whole little face brightened up in delight. "Where is he?" "He's with Mummy.", Andrew said and Thea lowered her eyes. Though she was only just five-and-a-half years old, she was incredibly sensitive regarding people's feelings and always attentive to interpersonal vibrations. Of course, she hadn't forgotten what Mummy had told her the other day, which she still hadn't completely grasped, but maybe Daddy could explain it a bit further…? "Are they talking about the secret?", she asked cautiously, looking at him in a mixture of curiosity and fear. "What are you talking about, sweetheart?", he asked, as he knew that Camilla would have hardly told her anything… but, then again, of course, Thea would have asked questions, understandably and rightfully so. God, what were they supposed to tell her? How were they supposed to explain it to her? "Mummy said she had been sharing a secret with Sir but some evil people uncovered it and they're now angry with them.", Thea bubbled. "That's why Mummy couldn't leave the house last week. The angry people were in the driveway and garden.", though she didn't seem to understand what exactly she was talking about, Andrew had noticed her insecurity and uncertainty and it simply broke his heart. "That's not very nice of them, is it?", he carefully asked and Thea shook her head. "Have you been afraid?", Andrew wanted to know, slightly afraid of the response. Though Thea wasn't his biological child, he loved her just as much as he loved Tom and Laura - he had been the one who literally brought her to life after all - and the mere imagination that his little Princess could have been in fear made him angry, but being the brave girl Thea was, she shook her head anew, explaining: "No, I wasn't. But I think Mummy was…" "Oh was she?" Thea nodded and looked so upset, that he couldn't help pulling her into his arms again. "Mummy thinks I didn't see it but I heard her crying every night.", she revealed and sighed. "Has Mummy told you about her and Sir's secret?" "She said she couldn't because she had promised him, and the point of secrets is not to tell anyone." "Oh, did she?" "Hmh…" "Okay… well, actually Mummy is right, but as we've both always told you: family is an exception. You can always tell us anything, and never need to be afraid or ashamed, okay, sweetheart? You can always trust us. Perhaps wen can ask Mummy and Sir themselves whether they'd share their secret with us later, what do you think?", he suggested and Thea, after visibly intense considering everything, agreed.In order to avoid bumping into a private moment between his wife and the Prince, Andrew convinced little Thea to play with Mr Rabbit for a little longer and promised her that Mummy and Sir would surely join them for dinner and they would best do it afterwards.

Meanwhile, Charles and Camilla, too, had decided that they needed to talk to Thea and tell her at least an age appropriate version of the story so that she’d learn about their relationship from them instead of hearing it somewhat cruelly from other children at school or something. Before dinner, while Fiona had taken care of Thea, the three of them had discussed it together and, much to Charles' regret, he had been outvoted by Camilla and Andrew that they should tell her all together. He'd have preferred to do it with Camilla alone but she insisted that Andrew, as her father - the only father she knew about and a rather wonderful one - as she said, which felt like a stitch in his heart, should be there as well. The fact that he had accepted Andrew's role in his daughter's life didn't mean that he liked or appreciated it but he quite simply had no choice.

So, after dinner, they took her to one of the Drawing Rooms and sat down on the floor with her, on a very soft, red carpet, right in front of the fireplace. Camilla emptied her second glass of wine in one go and drew Thea into her arms. "Daddy, Sir and I would like to talk about something with you, darling.", she started and Theas eyes widened in expectation. "Are you going to share your secret with me?", she asked and Camilla sighed. Her poor little daughter probably thought it was going to be something cool and exciting… hopefully it wasn't going to hit her too hard… "We are. But I'm afraid it might not be the sort of secret you're expecting.", she replied, looking at Andrew in uncertainty, nonverbally asking him to take over as she didnt know how to start. "See, Thea, the most important thing for you to know is, that we all love you very much and always will, no matter what happens or what might going to change, right?", he said and Camilla sighed in relief. Nevermind his failure as a husband for her, he undoubtedly was and had always been an exceptional father for all of their children. "I love you, too!", Thea replied, playfully rolling over to Andrew, who sat to Camilla's left, and then to Charles who had taken place on her right side, who pulled her onto his lap before taking over: "You know, little darling, sometimes love can be a bit complicated and the heart simply won't do what you tell it.", he said. "Sometimes, we develop feelings for people we shouldn't have feelings for. And… that's what happened between Mummy and me." "You're best friends.", Thea stated casually what she'd been told since like forever, and both Charles and Camilla nodded. "That is true, sweetheart.", Camilla confirmed, before adding: "But, a little while ago, Sir and I noticed that…", she paused and looked to Charles who gave her a reassuring glance. "We are more than just friends. Actually, we have fallen in love, you know." Thea frowned her forehead and sat up, irritatedly looking from one to the other. "But you're in love with Daddy.", she said, crawling over to Andrew again, who took her in his arms immediately. "Mummy and I were in love a couple of years ago, very much so, and we are still very fond of each other. I think we can say that we love each other like you love Tom and Laura. But… we are not… in love anymore." "Are you going to divorce?", Thea asked, suddenly sounding rather anxious. She had heard similar stories of some of her friends' parents who had divorced and though she didn't really know what exactly a divorce was, in her friends' cases it had meant that they didn't see their Daddys as often as they used to anymore and she didn't want to see less of Daddy. However, Camilla assured her that they were not going to divorce and that, no matter what, they'd always be her parents and always be there for her which seemed to soothe her little.

After a few minutes of silence, an important question crossed her mind: "But if you are in love, why don't you marry? That's what people do when they're in love.", she asked and Charles had to turn away for a moment because he was having a hard time pulling himself together. She was such a clever girl, and of course, she was right. That's what people did when they were in love. Of course he wanted to marry Camilla, the sooner, then better, but… "The trouble is, I'm not allowed to.", he said. "Because, you know… I'm… a Prince. And there are different rules for Princes." "I don't understand that.", Thea said, rolling over to her Mummy and looking at her in pure admiration, tenderly stroking Camilla’s hair with her little fingers. "But Mummy can be a Princess. She's beautiful and has a kind heart.", she said, as if it was the most normal thing in the world, and Camilla threw her head back laughing, whereas Charles had to swallow a few tears. He had always thought exactly the same. "Well, maybe, one day, things will change and Mummy can, indeed, be a Princess.", he said, lovingly looking at Camilla, who rolled her eyes. "And even if: perhaps I don't even want to be a Princess.", she remarked, which left Thea maximum confused: "Why should anyone not want to be a Princess?", she asked. "I think it's lovely. You can wear nice dresses and crowns and live in a castle." This time, it was Charles rolling his eyes, however not in a negative but more in an amused way. "I'm afraid it's not quite like this, darling.", he said. "I might tell you one day." "Yes, please, Sir! Tell me everything!", Thea cheered, climbing up on him, wrapping her little arms around his neck. "I'm sure Sir will be more than happy to do so at some point - but not today.", Camilla interrupted them. "That was all more than enough to take in for one day and we should all try and get some sleep now." "But I'm not tired!", Thea moaned but a heartfelt yewn, much to all of the adults' amusement, revealed that she was, indeed, very tired.

"So, whom of us would you like to bring you to bed, sweetheart?", she asked and Thea's answer came as quick as a shot: "Sir!" Of course, Charles was delighted and only too happy to fulfil his little angel's wish, and after they'd left the room, Camilla and Andrew went over to the sofa, Camilla immediately sitting down with a sigh and Andrew heading to the side table, pouring two glasses of Whisky before sitting down next to her and handing her a glass. "Thank God everything went well.", she said, and he agreed: "Yes, so far she seems to cope well." "She does. But she's still too little to understand everything to the whole extent…", Camilla replied and he nodded. "For the moment, the most important thing is that she knows she is loved and feels safe with us. And everything else will fall in place somehow. But she must never get to know who her real father is." It almost sounded like a threat and Camilla swallowed heavily. "I know, Andrew. That would turn her whole life upside down and put her at enormous risk. I promise, she won't. " Andrew took her hand and looked at her seriously. "Milla. Don't promise anything you have no control over."

Writing this actually took me ages because it's made me quite emotional... I so enjoy this little AU but at the same time I'm glad it didn't reallt happen that way to be honest. Just imagine going through everything they had to go through and at the same time having to take care of a child... and I'm afraid thr worst is yet to come... 😭 But since some of you wished for a carefree, happy story, I'll try and give you and them - a little break from the drama in the next chapter!

Have some new followers so wanted to finally share some lore about my Slytherin MC, Theodora! I'm drafting the seventh year chapters of When We're Older, where we dive much deeper into her story.

Birthday: December 1874

Family History: Half-blood; her father is an earl, her mother was a French witch. They met while she was working at the British ministry.

Hogwarts House: The sorting hat takes five seconds to decide on Slytherin. She's ambitious, cunning, and knows just how to present herself to get what she wants.

Favorite Subjects: Magical Theory, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration

Unforgivables: Theo does learn the unforgivable curses from Sebastian in their fifth year. She takes the same stance as Sebastian, until witnessing Solomon's death. After seeing the devastation of the unforgivable curses on her friend, she only uses her ancient magic on enemies.

Friends: Attached at the hip with Sebastian, and eventually Ominis. She keeps a wide network, which is incredibly handy for favors. Outside of her Slytherin boys, she considers Poppy, Natty, and Imelda her closest girlfriends.

Amortentia: She smells vanilla cauldron cakes, cedar cologne, and the all too familiar scent of the confringo curse.

Career: Post-graduation, Theo takes up a job as an unspeakable in the Department of Mysteries. She really wants to take on the position of Magical Theory professor at Hogwarts, but Headmaster Black refuses.

Born in 1845, Harrison James Albert Battersea II was the eleventh earl of Wexford. He became the earl at the tender age of eighteen, after his father passed away from a stroke. Pressure soon grew on Harrison to marry well and continue on the family name, while also furthering the wealth and power of the Wexford earldom. However, Harrison’s heart became set on a mysterious American woman with a small fortune. So, in 1868, Harrison married Lydia O’Dwyer. Their marriage was a true love match and they maintained a close and loving relationship for the rest of their lives. Together they had four surviving children: Harrison III, Marcus, Simon, and Hermione. Unfortunately, Harrison’s life was cut short one summer night in 1890. The family’s wing of Tyrell Castle was set on fire and the only member of the Battersea family to survive was Harrison’s youngest son, Simon.

As the third son, Simon had never been extremely close with his father. However, Harrison had always made time to spend with his youngest son. They got along quite well, and in fact, Simon and Harrison were rather similar in personality. However, Harrison could be rather protective, especially after Simon was diagnosed with hemophilia at the age of five. Despite the friction caused by that protectiveness, Simon was heartbroken by his father’s death. He misses Harrison fiercely and on bad days, he will sometimes think of all the things that he should have told Harrison when he was alive.

Mother: Lydia Edith Battersea née O’Dwyer [deceased, 1850-1890]

Born in 1850 in New York City, Lydia O’Dwyer was the youngest daughter in the pureblood O’Dwyer family. Lydia had always had a fierce independent streak, most likely due to the fact that she never displayed any signs of magic and that her family held an intense shame surrounding Lydia’s status as a squib. Thus, at the age of 16, Lydia fled the United States and landed in London. She had a small fortune hidden with her and while attempting to find the British Wizarding bank, she ended up in the stables where the earl of Wexford’s horses resided and met Harrison, the earl himself. She fell hard for Harrison, and despite the obstacles they faced, Lydia married Harrison in 1868. Their marriage was a true love match and they maintained a close and loving relationship, albeit suffering multiple mishaps in regards to childbearing. Together, they raised four surviving children: Harrison III, Marcus, Simon, and Hermione. Unfortunately, Lydia’s life was cut short in 1890 when the family’s wing of Tyrell Castle was set on fire. Lydia never did tell Harrison the truth about her family and didn’t live long enough to notice her youngest son’s signs of magic.

Simon also wasn’t overly close with his mother either. They definitely spent time together and Lydia always made sure to spend one-on-one time with her children. However, she also grew quite overprotective after Simon was diagnosed with hemophilia at the age of five and although, she never expressed any shame around her son’s disorder. He tried not to, but he started to resent his mother (and father) a little, especially when he saw what his brothers and sister were allowed to do. Simon was heartbroken by her death and on his bad days, he will think about what he should have told her when she was still alive.

Brother: Harrison James Albert “Harris” Battersea III [deceased, 1869-1890]

Born in 1869, Harrison James Albert Battersea III, better known as Harris, was twelve years older than Simon and thus, the heir to the Wexford earldom. Harris was taught the ways of the earldom from childhood and he loved every aspect of it, eager to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He worked hard in every endeavor and took what duties he was given very seriously. However, Harris never got the opportunity to take the duties of the earldom as he was killed in the Tyrell fire in 1890.

Simon often followed his older brother around like a puppy. He deeply admired Harris and thought he knew everything. He misses Harris a lot and sometimes imagines what it would be like if Harris had actually been able to become the earl.

Brother: Marcus Edgar Charles Battersea [deceased, 1872-1890]

Born in 1872, Marcus was nine years older than Simon. As the spare and second son, Marcus was also taught the ways of the earldom, but not to the extent that Harris was. In many ways, he was the complete opposite of his two brothers. Marcus was a bit of a troublemaker and whenever possible, he took the easy path. However, he did take the role of spare seriously, even as he fled from it. He knew that his role was important, and his parents had always assured him then a replacement for Harris. Yet, Marcus never got the opportunity to try and find himself as he was killed in the Tyrell fire of 1890.

Simon might not have looked up to Marcus the same way he did Harris, but he did greatly admire his older brother. He admired how Marcus tried to make people see beyond the title, surname, and age.

Sister: Hermione Edith Battersea [deceased, 1883-1890]

Born in 1883, Hermione was two years younger than Simon. As the youngest and only daughter, Hermione was a little spoiled, especially by her father. Her favorite thing to do was dance and she loved learning all of the different dances required by a girl of her status. She even got her parents to pay for her to be given private ballet lessons when the family was in residence in either London or Dublin. Sadly, Hermione never got the opportunity to dance with anyone besides her family as she was killed in the Tyrell fire of 1890.

Simon was probably the closest to Hermione, as there’s only a two year age gap between them. He didn’t love being his sister’s dance partner, but it always meant that Simon was in good health and allowed to do more strenuous activities. He loved his little sister.

⤷ Simon first officially met Nilüfer Sultan during their first ever flying class. However, a friendship didn’t begin to form until their fourth year, although they had been acquaintances since their first year. They didn’t truly become a couple until they had graduated from Hogwarts, though, shortly after Simon suffered an accident. They’d had a simple estrangement, after a big argument at the end of their seventh year. Simon and Nilüfer married in May of 1907.

Simon has a good relationship with his eldest son. He does his best to be supportive and not show any favoritism. There is a bit of friction when it comes to the fact that Simon is the last earl of Wexford, and that Sidney spends much of his early years under the impression that he is going to inherit, not that Simon really encourages any superiority about the heir and the spare. Overall, though, they have a good relationship and Simon loves Sidney very much. He is quite proud of his eldest son.

He tries to replicate some of how he saw his father parent his brothers, Harris and Marcus, as they were the heir and the spare. Simon loves Niall very much and is quite proud of him and everything that he accomplishes.

Simon has a good relationship with his youngest son. He finds it easy to get along with his youngest, who is a lot more impulsive and reckless than he ever was, because they both have a decent age gap with their brothers. Simon does tend to worry about Oliver more than he does his other three sons, but he is quite proud of Oliver and everything that his son accomplishes. Born in 1855, Hoarce was one of Simon’s distant cousins. He was the son of Simon’s father, Harrison’s second cousin. The combination of growing up in relative poverty and as the spare to the Wexford earldom, Horace easily formed a sense of entitlement. He believed that he would get the Wexford earldom, a desire which led him to make some very terrible decisions that resulted in the deaths of most of the Battersea family. In 1890, he petitioned the court and was labeled the guardian of Simon, the only Battersea to survive the Tyrell Castle fire. Horace’s greed only grew, as he found that the earldom was suddenly at his fingertips and he was once again the spare. He arranged for “accidents” to befall the young earl and when those failed, heeded to doctors’ words that it was unlikely that Simon would see his thirteenth birthday. Horace grew bitter and unpleasant, when Simon passed his fourteenth birthday and given that the boy was healthier than ever. In 1900, at the age of 45, Horace passed away in an accident that was likely his own doing.

Simon never liked his cousin and guardian. The two of them were often in a stand-off and when Simon learned what Horace had done, he was horrified and wished that Horace was still alive, so he could question Horace about it.

Childhood:

Simon Percival Theodore Battersea was born on June 21, 1881 to Harrison and Lydia Battersea. He was their third child, joining elder brothers Harrison III and Marcus. Two years later, he was joined by his younger sister, Hermione. Simon always seemed to be a little bit more accident prone than his older brothers and younger sister. He bruised easily and it seemed like he was a fragile boy. These symptoms were explained when Simon was diagnosed with hemophilia at the age of five. He had tripped down the stairs and skinned his knee. When the bleeding persisted at a steady pace after thirty minutes, the doctor was called for and the hemophilia diagnosis was made. Unbeknownst to the Battersea family, Simon only had about 2% of the normal clotting factor.

Aside from being diagnosed with hemophilia, Simon had a good childhood for those first nine years of his life. Sure, his parents were a little overprotective and he wasn’t allowed to do some of the things that his brothers had been allowed to do, like riding horses. However, Simon didn’t mind that much, especially when he was allowed to roam the halls of Tyrell Castle. For his ninth birthday, Simon was allowed to pick a puppy from their carriage dog’s litter to raise and train. He chose a small male puppy which he named Ford.

Everything changed, though, one hot summer night when Simon was nine. It was a sweltering night and Simon couldn’t sleep, so he started to wander around the family’s quarters. At perhaps two am, he smelled smoke and fled the family wing. He didn’t stop running until he reached the lake and saw that the family wing of the castle had gone up in flames. He spent the remainder of the night searching for his family. Eventually, the family’s nursemaid found Simon roaming the grounds in his bathrobe and slippers. She led the boy back to the house where he was gently told that his family had perished in the fire. Simon was heartbroken and it felt like the weight of the world had been settled on his shoulders.

Shortly after the fire, Horace Dormer, a distant cousin, was named Simon’s guardian as he was still a minor. Simon and Horace did not get along. In fact, several strange occurrences befell Simon in the first two years that Horace was his guardian. However, each time Simon escaped with only a few non-serious bruises… thanks to his magic.

Hogwarts Years:

At eleven, Simon began attending Hogwarts and was sorted into Hufflepuff. Simon was a shy and cautious student. He wasn’t the most social and preferred to spend time by himself, often spending hours in the library returning correspondence with the Wexford estate’s solicitor and others. Slowly, Simon grew out of his shell and allowed people in, but he was always rather prickly and often grew tired of explaining his hemophilia to the ignorant. Among the people he let in was his future wife, Nilüfer Sultan.

Adulthood:

After graduating from Hogwarts, Simon settled fully into his role as the earl of Wexford while also navigating through the wizarding world.

At the age of 19, after a six month long legal fight, Simon emancipated himself from his guardian. Horace Dormer died two months later.

At the age of 24, Simon experienced a horrible accident. He tripped and fell down a set of marble stairs and was knocked unconscious. No one believed that Simon would survive, as he bled for hours and the doctors struggled to stem the bleeding. Simon remained unconscious for four days, before he finally awoke.

The biggest, most notable change in Simon’s adulthood came in December of 1922 when the Irish Free State was finally established. For a long time, Simon struggled with what to do. He had never felt English and despite being a peer, he had never spent much time with the English aristocracy. Eventually, he agreed that the title would end with him. His sons would be free to pursue whatever life they wanted and never feel like the eldest was better simply for being born first.

Simon also married Nilüfer in a small, yet fancy, ceremony in May of 1907, approximately a month before Simon’s twenty-sixth birthday. They had four sons together. Their eldest son, Sidney Harrison Mehmet Battersea, was born on January 12, 1909. Their second son, Niall Albert Selim Battersea, was born on June 15, 1911. Their third son, Louis Edgar Hamid Battersea, was born on March 28, 1913. Their fourth and youngest son, Oliver Marcus Erol Battersea, was born on August 22, 1917.

Old Age:

Simon spent most of his old age putting his affairs in order and spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He was a doting grandfather, who adored all of his grandchildren.

Death:

Simon passed away in 1968 at the age of 87. He suffered a bad fall and eventually bled to death in his sleep which was also accompanied by a stroke. He had lived a full life, though, and left behind a wife, four sons, and twelve grandchildren.

Trivia:

Simon has hemophilia. His case would be considered moderate in modern terminology, as he has about 2% of the normal clotting factor.

As the sole survivor of the Tyrell fire of 1890, Simon is terrified of fire. His fear of fire is one of his biggest fears, even more than most of his hemophilia related fears.

Simon was almost murdered a few times between the ages of nine and eleve, thanks to the schemes of his guardian, Hoarce Dormer. However, Simon survived each time because of his ancient healing magic.

Simon’s hemophilia begins and ends with him, as he only has sons and his hemophilia gene is carried by his X chromosome.

Simon sold Battersea House in Dublin in 1922, after the Irish War of Independence. He sold Wexford House in London in 1934. Shortly before his death in 1968, Simon donated Tyrell Castle to the Irish government to create a museum and let the funds go to helping people in need. He hadn’t lived until he castle since he was a teenager and that was the last shred of his identity as an earl.

Being an earl means that Simon has no time for another profession. He spends most of his day balancing ledgers and carrying out other duties. However, things start to change in 1922, when he’s 41. Simon still carried out his duties until his death, but the Wexford title ends with him.

Simon discovered a struggling piece of property in the English countryside in 1923. He stumbled upon it by accident and discovered that the tenants were aging and barely holding on to what they had.

Simon’s descendants include his great-grandson, Luke, and his great-great-great-granddaughter, Shreya.

WIP ask: The Trewlove Series (I’m excited to hear about it!)

Alrighty! So this series 100000% started because my idiot ass was like lol I want a romance novel series with punny titles AND SO the Trewlove series was born (all the possible titles are True Love <=> Trewlove puns).

The Trewlove siblings are the children of a vicar who's the grandson of either a baron or baronet (haven't decided yet) and the daughter of an earl. The sibs are from eldest to youngest: Constant, Caleb, Verity, Bartholomew (Barty), Grace, Joy, and Peter. The books are all set from the mid 1860s to about the early or mid 1880s.

My bb Verity's book is likely to be the first book in the series.

Verity has a season in London at age 19 and is sponsored by her (37 year old) great aunt Annabel, Lady W (Verity’s great-uncle, Lord W is 17 years younger than his sister (Verity's maternal grandmother) and Lady W is about 10 years younger than her husband which is how Verity has a great-aunt who’s only 18 years her senior. Both Lord and Lady W have their own book in another series mentioned here).

During her season in London Verity meets her future BFF, Lady Theodora (Dora to her friends and fam). A few years after her visit to London Verity and Dora meet up again. The only other thing I have in my notes is that Dora basically "radicalizes" Verity and she becomes a proto-feminist and her whole romance happens with a young politician (haven't decided if he's in the House of Commons or he's a lordling in the House of Lords lol).

The only other sibling whose story has some notes is Peter. Peter gets paired up with the daughter of his father's former curate and she is the niece of a pairing that has their own book in The Spares series.

St. Isidore and Fulgentius, both bishops were his brothers, and his sister, Florentina, is also numbered among the saints. He became a monk at Seville and then the bishop of the See. Mar. 13 Bl. Agnello of Pisa. The founder of the English Franciscan province, Blessed Agnello, was admitted into the Order by St. Francis himself on the occasion of his sojourn in Pisa. He was sent to the Friary in Paris, of which he became the guardian, and in 1224, St. Francis appointed him to found an English province; at the time he was only a deacon. Eight others were selected to accompany him. True to the precepts of St. Francis, they had no money, and the monks of Fecamp paid their passage over to Dover. They made Canterbury their first stopping place, while Richard of Ingworth, Richard of Devon and two of the Italians went on to London to see where they could settle. It was the winter of 1224, and they must have suffered great discomfort, especially as their ordinary fare was bread and a little beer, which was so thick that it had to be diluted before they could swallow it. Nothing, however, dampened their spirits, and their simple piety, cheerfulness and enthusiasm soon won them many friends. They were able to produce a commendatory letter from Pope Honorius III, so that the Archbishop of Canterbury, Steven Langton, in announcing their arrival, said, "Some religious have come to me calling themselves penitents of the Order of Assisi, but I called them of the Order of the Apostles." In the meantime, Richard of Ingworth and his party had been well received in London and hired a dwelling on Cornhill. They were now ready to push on to Oxford, and Agnello came from Canterbury to take charge of the London settlement. Everywhere the Friars were received with enthusiasm, and Matthew Paris himself attests that Blessed Agnello was on familiar terms with King Henry III. Agnello is thought to have died at the age of forty-one, only eleven years after he landed at Dover, but his reputation for sanctity and prudence stood high amongst his fellows. It is stated that his zeal for poverty was so great that "he would never permit any ground to be enlarged or any house to be built except as inevitable necessity required." He was stern in resisting relaxations in the Rule, but his gentleness and tact led him to be chosen in 1233 to negotiate with the rebellious Earl Marshal. His health is said to have been undermined by his efforts in this cause and by a last painful journey to Italy. Opon his return he was seized with dysentery at Oxford and died there, after crying out for three days, "Come, Sweetest Jesus." The cult of Blessed Agnello was confirmed in 1892; his feast is observed in the Archdiocese of Birmingham today and by the Friars Minor on the eleventh.

St. Mochoemoc, 656 A.D. Abbot Founder of Liath Mochoemoc Monastery at Tipperary, Ireland. He was the son of Bevan and Nessa and the brother or nephew of St. Ita. Listed as Machaemhog, Puicherius, or Vuicherius, he was trained by St. Ita, at Munster, Ireland, and received ordination by St. Comgall at Bangor. Mochoemoc founded Arderin Abbey and others before he died.

At 9th of June was 102 years since the birth of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark)

Philip Mountbatten; 10 June 1921– 9 April 2021 , was the husband of Queen Elizabeth II. As such, he was consort of the British monarch from Elizabeth's accession on 6 February 1952 until his death in 2021, making him the longest-serving royal consort in history.

Philip was born in Greece into the Greek and Danish royal families

Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark was born on the dining room table in Mon Repos, Royal family’s summer villa on the Greek island of Corfu, on 10 June 1921.He was the only son and fifth and final child of Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg.A member of the House of Glücksburg, the ruling house of Denmark, he was a prince of both Greece and Denmark by virtue of his patrilineal descent from King George I of Greece and King Christian IX of Denmark; he was from birth in the line of succession to both thrones.Philip's four elder sisters were Margarita, Theodora, Cecilie, and Sophie. He was baptised in the Greek Orthodox rite at St. George's Church in the Old Fortress in Corfu. His godparents were his grandmother Queen Olga of Greece, his cousin Crown Prince George of Greece, his uncle Lord Louis Mountbatten, and the mayor of Corfu, Alexandros Kokotos.

His family was exiled from the country when he was eighteen months old. After being educated in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, he joined the Royal Navy in 1939, when he was 18 years old. In July 1939, he began corresponding with the 13-year-old Princess Elizabeth, the elder daughter and heir presumptive of King George VI. Philip had first met her in 1934. During the Second World War, he served with distinction in the British Mediterranean and Pacific fleets.

In the summer of 1946, the King granted Philip permission to marry Elizabeth. Before the official announcement of their engagement in July 1947, Philip stopped using his Greek and Danish royal titles and styles, became a naturalised British subject, and adopted his maternal grandparents' surname Mountbatten. He married Elizabeth on 20 November 1947. The day before their wedding, the King granted Philip the style His Royal Highness. On the day of their wedding, he was additionally created Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, and Baron Greenwich.

Philip and Elizabeth were married in a ceremony at Westminster Abbey, recorded and broadcast by BBC radio to 200 million people around the world.In post-war Britain, it was unacceptable for any of the Duke of Edinburgh's German relations to be invited to the wedding, including Philip's three surviving sisters, all of whom had married German princes. After their marriage, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh took residence at Clarence House. Their first two children were born before Elizabeth succeeded her father as monarch in 1952: Prince Charles in 1948 and Princess Anne in 1950. Their marriage was the longest of any British monarch, lasting over 73 years until Philip died in 2021.

Philip left active military service when Elizabeth ascended the throne in 1952, having reached the rank of commander. In 1957, he was created a British prince. Philip had four children with Elizabeth: Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward.

A sports enthusiast, Philip helped develop the equestrian event of carriage driving. He was a patron, president, or member of over 780 organisations, including the World Wide Fund for Nature, and served as chairman of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, a youth awards program for people aged 14 to 24.Philip is the longest-lived male member of the British royal family.
