FAQ:
What must be included in the content of a filled prompt? Stephen Strange (any version of him: film, TV, or comics) must be either the main or co-main character. Otherwise, anything goes!
What must be included in the tags of Tumblr and Twitter posts? Please use the hashtag #strangehalloween2023 and the # of the prompt you're filling (i.e. #no6 and/or #witch). On Tumblr, please include additional tags for NSFW and common triggers (see AO3 for examples).
When can I post my prompt fill? In the spirit of the theme, these should be posted in October! We'd prefer if you post prompts the day of or after the day has passed. For example, prompt 10 fills can be posted on or after Oct 10, and preferably not before.
What medium can I use? Anything! Written prose, poetry, gifsets, mood boards, artwork, all is acceptable as a prompt fill. It's all about Stephen Strange in any form he comes in.
Can I combine Strange Tales of Halloween prompts into one submission (i.e. #1 "What was that? Is somebody there?" and #6 witch)? Sure! If you post it on social media, you can use both prompt tags to help us identify it as such.
There are two prompts per day. Do I have to do both? You can use the sentence prompts, the words prompt, or do a mix of them!
Can I use this prompt list with other prompt lists/bingo cards? Absolutely! Combine it with any other event you'd like to use it with.
Are there any limits to how many prompts I can use/have to use? Nope! Participate with one piece or 31 pieces! Do as much as you'd like--we'll love to see it!
Any other questions? Send an ask to @a-strange-server and we'll get back to you soon. We can't wait to start seeing what you come up with come October!

CRK Cookie Run Warriors AU - Concept Showcase
A brand new Cookie Run Kingdom AU, one where it follows similar with the story of the official game, albeit with these ideals 🍪
Cookie Run Warriors AU follows a story similar to the original source, that being Cookie Run Kingdom. But it will also have a few things from my Cookie Run Kimura AU, as well as some original concepts of its own ✨
I'll be showcasing each main key concept for each comic panel, made using Cookie Run Comic Studio 🎀
Another thing that'll be mentioned is that the following are planned out from the start of the creation of Cookie Run Warriors AU:
The characters will have different/unique last names just like in the Cookie Run Kimura AU. (Ex; White Lily Cookie -> White Lily Hayashi)
A slightly altered cast of characters will be used. Some will still retain similar roles (Ex; Gingerbrave & Wizard) but others will be replacing other characters in their given roles (Ex; Strawberry Cookie -> Gingerbright, Custard Cookie III -> Cherry Bomb Cookie, Chili Pepper Cookie -> Herb Cookie)
Side Stories will be a thing in this AU, which are inspired by the ones in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky. Particularly with a certain story being unlocked after completing a certain chapter.
Cookies both from Cookie Run Kingdom & Cookie Run Ovenbreak will appear in this AU. Same goes with a few OCs that I made for the Cookie Run Franchise.
Concept of Cookie Run Warrior AU's creation was made as my own version of the original Cookie Run Kingdom. Some key points will be similar to the original but also different at the same time. (Ex; Dark Choco Cookie works with the Cookies of Darkness, but he's secretly still aligned with Dark Cacao Cookie. Not actually influenced by the Strawberry Jam Sword, and has a good and wholesome family bond with his father.)
Original Chapters are made to either replace the official chapter from the games, for things to make sense with the corresponding characters. (Ex; Pilgrim's Path -> Parfaedia City)
As of now I only have a full concept of Herb Cookie for the Cookie Run Warriors AU, who is actually the exact same one in my Cookie Run Kimura AU. Albeit; in a different story, but overall the same Herb Kimura (personality-wise, slight role-wise, and power to break the fourth wall) 🪴
The story will be made using Cookie Run Comic Studio, but some artworks made by me will be showcased, but not as much as the comics I created for this AU 🎀
Without further ado, here's each key concept showcased. Each with given meanings and similarities/differences 🍪
Concept #1 - The introduction/narration and the final battle between Dark Enchantress Cookie and the Ancients are the same up until Dark Enchantress defeats the Ancients
White Lily Cookie is actually present in this scene, and also has her own kingdom (nearby the Pure Vanilla Kingdom)
She's also the one that did a last resort attack at Dark Enchantress Cookie.
Tumblr media
Concept #2 - Gingerbrave & Gingerbright Escape the Witch's House, but instead of because they don't want to eaten, they instead escape because they didn't want to be Oven Warden's for the Witch and watch her eat the cookies while they followed her just to not be eaten themselves
Both Gingerbrave and Gingerbright successfully escape and found themselves in Earthbread, the Shimmering Ocean Village in particular, where Sea Fairy Cookie finds them
They explain everything to her, and the Ocean Goddess herself opened up her arms and welcomed both cookies into the village she guides, also requesting them to help her for their first task
Tumblr media
Concept #3 - The first task given to Gingerbrave and Gingerbright were tasked to rescue Herb Cookie, the Young God of Nature & Son of Sea Fairy.
Wizard Cookie decides to join them, but only because he doesn't want them to mess up, and not for the fact that he's the only cookie that the two helped back in the Witch's House
They meet up with Cherry Bomb Cookie (or simply called Cherry Cookie) decided to join in after hanging out with an older brother figure of hers (Werewolf Cookie), wanting more adventure in her life
Finally they managed to rescue Herb Cookie from Licorice Cookie, Choco Werehound Brute (aka; Schwarzwälder), and Bat-Cat
From there the five main heroes are settled, now known as Team Friendship & Dough (dubbed by Gingerbrave)
Tumblr media
Concept #4 - Told that Licorice Cookie were wrecking havoc in Littleroot Hill, Gingerbrave and friends venture there to stop them
Herb Cookie accidentally got separated from the group, but found a glowing green crystal, eventually revealed to be the missing White Lily Cookie
Team Friendship & Dough happily offered to help her defeat Dark Enchantress Cookie, but behind the scenes she secretly tells Herb about something deep
As of that chapter (Cookie Run Warriors Chapter 2), it's unknown what White Lily told Herb
Tumblr media
Concept #5 - Turns out Dark Enchantress Cookie is White Lily Cookie's older sister named Black Iris Hayashi (in this AU Dark Enchantress & White Lily are different people but related, with Black Iris being a more mature and knowledgable between the two)
White Lily told Herb to not mention this, as she wanted to save her sister rather than hurting her. Even after the last resort because she thought it would take both her and herself out
Dark Enchantress captures White Lily, where the Cookies of Darkness are waiting
Tumblr media
Concept #6 - Small showcase of each of the story arcs relating to the current playable Ancient Cookies:
Pure Vanilla Cookie goes under the alias Healer Cookie, as his kingdom has been enslaved and under Dark Enchantress Cookie's clutches. He helps the rebelling cookies take back the Pure Vanilla Kingdom's freedom, but got himself captured recently. Feeling deep sorrow and guilt, especially to White Lily who just wanted to help him back then.
Hollyberry Cookie gets amnesia and becomes the Unnamed Huntress. She helps Princess Cookie (alongside Knight Cookie, Adventurer Cookie, and Red Velvet Cookie) during that moment, with the latter needing to compete in the Kingdom Heir/Heiress Contest to reclaim her role. Cherry Blossom Cookie seemingly wants to help her, but is actually here just to entertain herself. Pitaya Dragon Cookie still shows up, but they're more of a red herring as they only wanted to find and hangout with Hollyberry rather than to harm anyone.
Dark Cacao Cookie is faring well, helping those within his kingdom both in the citadel and outside and into the villages nearby. His relationship with Dark Choco Cookie has never been strained, as he was always there to guide the young prince via strength to protect the kingdom and also giving him the genuine amount of love and hope. Dark Choco himself secretly goes back to see his father, helping as a double agent and telling what the Cookies of Darkness are currently planning. Affogato Cookie meanwhile is secretly planning his betrayal, with the ideal to take down the king and expose the prince to the Cookies of Darkness.

another pj masks au (villain swap au)
I'm not changing anything except the villains motives for hating the pj masks, so the villains powers and stuff will stay the same.
NN: orticias motives. Night Ninja was new to the city and didn't have any ninjalinos (yet). Ready to begin his career as a ninja, he started making sticky splats in the park one night. An Yu, who had already been released from the gong by the PJ masks at that point, went to go stop him, remembering how the ninjas in her time acted. NN was attacked by an yu for seemingly no reason, making him hate her and her allies.
Luna: Octobellas motives. Since she's from the moon with no way to return (motsuki isn't her sister in this au, and therefore she can't teleport) everything that comes from the moon is as precious as gold to her. When she left her moon crystals unprotected for a night to go and steal a smoothie, gekko (without knowing it was hers) took it back to HQ, where PJ robot found a way to feed its energy into the PJ crystals, draining it of its power. Luna has never forgiven gekko for this, and vows to make him pay.
Romeo: Speedy twins motives. He's still a scientist, but is less obsessed with taking over the world and more obsessed with making his lab the best lab on the planet, so everyone will recognise him as the greatest scientist of all time. In order to do this, he needs to steal equipment, which makes the PJs his enemies as they try to stop him.
Wolfy kids: Muki Gu's motives. The wolfies aren't evil, they just love pranks (which is canon), and sometimes take things a bit too far. They don't care about becoming full wolfy, they just want to have fun at night to get away from the boringness of daytime, even if its at the expense of others.
Motsuki: Night Ninjas (s1) motivation. She was romeo's lab experiment in this AU, and similar to her canon counterpart, struggles with being told she's not as good as he is. Although the duo live together, she spends most of her time alone, and wants to prove she's the best at everything to spite romeo. She does this mostly by stealing stuff from school: if nobody else can paint/play sport/read comics, then she'll have to be the best at it by default.
Munki Gu: Luna's motivation. After being trapped in a statue for 1000 years, he's pretty bored. He steals toys, books, games, anything he wants, just for fun. He hates being bored, and will do literally anything to not be bored. He's fairly friendly with the PJ masks, due to gekko being th one to free him, but that doesn't mean he's willing to not steal things when they ask.
Octobella: wolfy kids motivation (hear me out) after reading stories about cthulu, krakens, and other octopus-style mythical creatures, she decided that they were cool as hell and wanted to figure out how she too could become giant and scare sailors. She hasn't found a way too yet, but this hasn't stopped her from stealing many crystals and other magical artifacts from the museum in the hopes that they will magically turn her into a much cooler version of herself.
Pharaoh boy: gloops motivation, or part of it, at least. After 4000 years, he is shocked and annoyed that the world is nothing like the one he's used to, and thinks that he could make it way better if he restored it to the glory of the ancient egyptian days. He still wants to rule until the end of time, but he's also pretty fond of redecorating- aka, using magic to create sandstorms and make the city much hotter. He's also built a night ninja statue-esque pyramid in the park one time.
Orticia: Motsukis motivation. When octobella was messing around with stuff from the museum, she accidentally messed with orticias seed, creating her. Orticia is now Octobella's self-proclaimed little sister, and wants to help her achieve her goals no matter what. The two fight occassionally, but octobella is happy for the extra help and they have a pretty good relationship for the most part
Pirate Robot: Romeo's motivation. He wants to take over the world, believing that robots are superior to humans. He is actually terrible at starting the robot uprising, as most of his plans involve attacking the museum with pudding or putting robot propaganda posters up at the school, but the pj masks have to stop him anyway. they still think he's silly and kind of like him, just like in canon though. He's just that bad at taking over the world.
Speedy twins: Pharaoh boy's motivation, but instead of wanting to rule the world, they want to rule the racing world. They tend to cause destruction with their reckless driving, and refuse to stop no matter how much damage they cause. They have stolen the PJ vehicles before, not to take their parts, but so that the PJ masks couldn't have any vehicles that could possibly stand a chance in a race against the flashcar
Gloop the third: pirate robots motivation. He loves shiny things, and wants to collect cool treasure from earth to decorate his home back on planet gloop with. He has no other motivations, he just flies around in the gloopster looking for earth treasure
did you know that this post is almost 900 words. Thanks for getting through the whole thing (:

this is a rlly dumb crack au guys im sorry
okay but like i've been fucking brainrotting for some reason about my versions of my otps of some otome games and twitter is shit and no one rlly reads my tumblr so just
imagine the four of them meeting
so it's like this:
luke and his mc, belle (tears of themis)
victor and his mc, yu (mlqc)
osborn and his mc, jue xiyu (light and night)
ayn and his mc, xiao ling (lovebrush / for all time)
and when they meet its the funniest shit ever because they just talk about all the crazy things that happened to them aklsdjfhaskljdfhaklsjghaskl
Victor: I am the CEO of Loveland Financial Group, but I am also an EVOLver--someone that has enhanced supernatural abilities. Mine is the ability to manipulate time, whether moving to the past and future, or halting it in it's place. I've seen the world nearly come to ruin, but it was all resolved thanks to my dummy, Yu. We still have a long way to go, though. The Laws of our world are never finished with us, but I guarantee that nothing will stop me from finding her. Not time, not space.
Luke: I was a secret agent, but after a mission, I was struck with a chronic illness, so I don't have much time to live. I've been trying to find a miracle that will cure me of it, but nothing so far. I avoided my best friend, Belle, for so long, but after reuniting with her and joining NXX with her, I decided to try and live out what days I might have left and find our miracle, together.
Osborn: Racer by day, bounty hunter by night. I'm a free spirit, really, though I've had my own fair share of mess-ups and troubles. Sometimes, i questioned why I was still here, and argued with myself over and over again. Not to mention I can summon blue flames, which might mean I have God Blood running through me. Whatever it is, though, as long as Xiyu is by my side, I'm fine. After all, my Lil' Xiao Five is my light in the night.
Ayn:
Ayn: i.
Ayn: i am a music student at an academy.
Ayn: that. is dating xiao ling.
Ayn: i guess.
And then meanwhile the girls are all like--
Yu: So it turns out I'm an EVOLver, I became the QUEEN and rewrote the rules of the world multiple times, was stuck in a time loop, and I might... be the CORE or something? It hurts my head, honestly.
Xiyu: Tell me about it. I'm surrounded by angels, ancient foxes, vampires, and I might be related to a God? It's insane, and I don't even know up from down anymore. So much for living the normal fashion designer life, right?
Xiao Ling: Oh, I'm a comic artist, but some of the comics I draw are actually based on alternative realities that I've visited! In each one, I always manage to find my way back to Ayn.
Belle:
Belle: I AM. A LAWYER.
Belle: AS IN I HAVE A LAW DEGREE?
Belle: AND I DEAL WITH. CRIMINAL CHARGES. AND MURDER CASES.
Belle: ...WHAT IS THIS SUPERNATURAL STUFF, I AM SCARED--
in the end, ayn and belle shake hands.
Ayn: Oh, Belle, Xiao Ling is normal like us too. Right, A-Ling?
Xiao Ling: Y-Y... Y-yup!
Belle: *stares at Xiao Ling in astonishment*
Xiyu: ...you didn't tell him about the alternate universes thing, did you?
Xiao Ling: N-nope.
Yu: Thought so.

We interrupt this program to bring you Zora's love life (& other dynamics)
87 show: neutral, she's just a really good friend of theirs, could possibly start ship wars
90s live movies: with leo, mhmm gimme some of dat monster x human except the beauty is the one who has to change her attitude, the mobster doesn't need to change cuz he aint one to begin with. Starts out ditzy and materialistic but grows to be more compassionate & a kunoichi
03: leo again due to movie popularity and the "serious guy meets funloving girl" trope, totally 2000s cliches. Decides to become a ninja solely to impress leo at first anyways. After events she starts taking her training seriously eventually graduating and given her own mask and weapon: pink war fans
07: Officially with Leo, but Raph has a crush on her too, creates a love triangle, doesn't help Zora knows Raph is nightwatcher but didn't tell Leo (tho not out of malice, she genuinely felt the city needed a protector) izza mess. Still ends up with Leo, also for some reason Max Winters confuses her fo the sorceress he fell in love with in ancient times lmao
12: leo because he needs a love interest that isn't his own fuckin sister. She met the turtles a little late and is with them when earth is destroyed, leo helps her with her grief and in turn she resolves to become stronger. Has mo powers cuz april really needed a female friend outside ninja business
Idw comics: i don't even know, toss up between raph and leo
Bayverse: leo AGAIN honestly biased atp, at first she's weirded out but comes to accept the turtles as friends, OOTS she reassures Leo he is more than just a cold unfeeling leader
Rottmnt: leo (ehm) but this time he's the fun one and she's the Only Sane Ninja, she lacks fancy powers but makes up in sheer willpower (and enhanced blow dryer)
Mutant mayhem: RAPH FINALLY break away from norm, Raph's tough guy persona breaks at the sight of a pretty girl, karma for making fun of Leo. Literally first time Zora meets the turtles Raph hides and everyone urges him to stop hiding much to his protests until he jumps out to snap at Donnie. When He sees Zora standing there he stops and blushes and honestly it's so cute.
And every version of her becomes splinter's fave due to her passion to learning the ninjas ways and ability to adapt. And she doesn't argue 5000% of the time lmao

The hell does doctor yellow face mean
Oh boy. Okay. Sit down. This may take a while.
Tumblr media
So, Doctor Strange was created by Steve Ditko in the 60s. It was trippy, psychedelic, and philosophical. It was also unbelievably fucking racist. Asian stereotyping, white saviour nonsense, slanty eyes, the works. It’s really quite appalling.
Fast forward to 2014. You’re a Marvel exec looking to expand your multi-million dollar omnishambles of a shared universe, and you think to yourself ‘hey, why not adapt Doctor Strange?’ There’s just one problem. The racism. What are you to do? Well obviously you hire writers and filmmakers from an Asian background who are willing to put in the time and effort to carefully iron out the racist elements and create a version of Doctor Strange that’s much more politically correct and respectful toward… NAH! I’M JUST MESSING WITH YOU! THEY WHITEWASH THE SHIT OUT OF IT!
So that’s what happened. They hired horror director Scott Derrickson to make the film (he made that film Sinister. Do you remember Sinister? Don’t worry. Nobody does) and C. Robert Cargill to write the script (he wrote Prometheus. Need I say more?). They cast Benedryl Cucumberflaps to play Strange, but don’t worry. He’s not going to be a white saviour. It’s hard to be a white saviour when everyone else is white too.
So all the Asian parts are given to distinctly non-Asian people. Baron Mordo is played by Chiwetel Ejiofor (he’ll be your token black guy for this evening), Tilda Swinton plays the Ancient One in order to provide us with that much needed Celtic representation we’ve all been crying out for (I’m not joking. That’s actually the reason they give), and the villain Kaecilius is played by Mads Mikkelson, who presumably needed the money after Hannibal got cancelled. Oh but Strange’s manservant Wong was kept Asian, so that’s nice. I bet Asian audiences really appreciated that.
They then proceeded to strip any and all Asian influences out of the film. They moved the characters from Tibet to Nepal in order to appease the Chinese market, even though Deadpool was released the same year and was the highest grossing R rated film at the time despite not being released in China, there’s no mention of Buddhism or anything like that, and the Ancient One’s monastery becomes more like a discount Hogwarts.
Oh and just to add insult to injury, in the sequel we have Scarlet Witch, a whitewashed Romani Jew, and American Chavez, a character who was dark skinned and gay until Marvel got their claws on her and made her light-skinned and not. Plus we then get ‘gothic influences’ despite the fact that Strange has never at any point been gothic and the fact that goth is, you guessed it, not Asian.
The MCU’s Doctor Strange is a plethora of racist bullshit. It’s white people in Asian fancy dress. It’s Cultural Appropriation: The Movie. They took a comic book that was already pretty racist and effectively made it even more racist.
And that is why I call it Doctor Yellowface. Thank you for coming to my TED talk. 😇

top 5 fictional races/ancestries/species
top 5/top 10 anything.
xenomorphs (alien) MY BELOVEDS. MY SWEEITIES. MY DARLINGS. tries to hold them all in my arms. 😭 really a no-brainer considering my url lmao. i first watched alien and aliens when i was around 8. the formative impact h.r. giger's artwork and the xenomorph design had on little me was truly life changing. they will always be my favorites. i just think they're so beautiful, i was really glad when covenant got back to their original design. but i also love different variations like the queens, the deacon in prometheus, the neomorph in covenant, even the red ones i've seen from the comics. i give them each a lil kiss on their heads.
the reapers (mass effect) wouldn't be here without our favorite sentient starships that harvest organic life in the galaxy every 50,000 years. i love the design of the ships, of reaper technology itself, and their sound design. i think they are one of the best things about the mass effect series. some of my favorite moments are the ones involving the reapers: talking to soveriegn in me1, the reaper iff mission in me2, the opening of me3, menae/tuchanka/rannoch/thessia priority missions in me3. the leviathan dlc was my favorites because of that delicious reaper lore. i'm also a control ending apologist.
the outer ones/great old ones (cthulhu mythos) on one hand, you know how ol' howard phillips lovecraft was. but on the other, without him we wouldn't get the reapers, or the great ones in bloodborne, or even cosmic horror as a genre. that's why the outer ones/gread old ones are free real estate for everyone to use and as they see fit. it's been nearly a century since they were first written, i'm more interested in seeing how other folks (especially those of us who are othered in some way) interpret them. also they're an important part of the emperor's story (they're her literal family), so they deserve a place in this list.
tsimisce (vampire: the masquerade) me? liking creepy, inhuman, eldritch vampires? shocking. every time i've played v:tm with friends, i've always created a tsimisce. i love them, i think they are delightfully strange and creepy and lend themselves to the creativity of the player in just how weird they can get. i know the lore surrounding them in a mess at the moment (i mostly adhere to v20 rules and i haven't been paying attention to any of the new stuff but i hear things), but i also do love the history and internal politics of the clan from previous versions. everyone and everything's a mess, i love it. also thee dracula is canonically a tsimisce in v:tm and dracula is one of my favorite genders.
elvhen (dragon age) the dragon age lore is a mess and sometimes the writing is really clunky in typical bioware fashion, but i do really enjoy the elvhen. especially all the ancient elvhen that we've met that survived the collapse of the veil. (i've based my inquisitor on this with a little more eldritch seasoning and i've grown quite fond of her. i'm gonna miss playing her in da4, whenever that happens.... if that happens.) also inquisitor ameridan, i wish we had more time with him, but alas.

Because I don’t read Chinese, I didn’t catch on my first watchthrough that it’s Zhao Xinci who plants the Record of Ancient Secrets in the SID library. And it’s a brilliant move on Zhaddy’s part.
Judging by the stack of books Sang Zan gathers on the table for Zhao Yunlan (and helpfully sticky-notes! librarians are the real heroes!), SID’s collection of Hallows-relevant material is not exactly page-turning stuff. Sure, some of the books have pictures, but they’ve censored the boobies, so they’re not even fun pictures.
And then, in the midst of all this, there’s one little book that’s basically the size of a comic book. You can practically see Zhao Yunlan decide that, all things being equal, if he’s got to read one of these things, he’s going to pick the smallest one. It’s got a cool title, too, written in a cool ye olde font, so why not? Time to fold it in half, shove it in his back pocket, and fire-pole out of the library without even checking it out properly.
Sang Zan, who has literally murdered people before, does not kill him for this. He deserves a raise and a medal.
(You think he ever gets salty about that? When everybody’s making such a big deal about, oh, Chu Shuzhi, monster criminal! he’s over here like, hey, I’ve killed people too, you know, guys...)
Anyway, by playing on Zhao Yunlan’s inherent desire to get as much done while also doing as little as possible, Zhao Xinci not only puts the appropriate information into play, he makes it instantly the most appealing choice. He knows his failson well.
(I also ran my Google app’s camera over the book text just to see what machine translation would make of it. It was predictably a mess -- but it did give me something about a “famous black cloak”, which I guess is the version of the song Dragon City’s Leonard Cohen wrote about Scientology.)

Lore Olympus' Demeter and her as mother
Tumblr media
HATE SPEECH WILL BE BLOCKED. IF YOU SUPPORT DEMETER, THEN THE COMIC I'M MAKING THIS ANALYSIS OF IS NOT FOR YOU AND THIS ISN'T EITHER.
First of all, I'd like to remind that Lore Olympus that makes a modern re-telling of how Hades and Persephone got together.
This re-telling and adaptation of the myth comes with changes from the original thing, and that's because most of the mythology on Greece usually is pretty raw. Their ancient gods are not ephitomes of morality, as it happens today, but a reflection of how the world is, and their world was a pretty much messed up place that lived with unmerciful forces of nature. For us to handle this mythology, we turn half of the gods into much better people (I mean, Zeus is a serial rapist and cheater, and Poseidon or Apollo are not better) so we can root for them.
But then, other gods, like Hades, a feared one, was not only not kept as he was on the myth, but turned into someone worse, and only because he was related with the Devil who runs hell. And Hades was never that bad. I mean, he was pretty hardcore, but he was feared mostly because he was the one who judges you in the after-life and dictates where will you spend the rest of your existence. Also, he was pretty ominous, and didn't do much to appeal to the masses.
But if you look into his list of deeds, as media started to do more recently, you see that this guy is, while not harmless, the most moral among the other gods on the Greek Lore.
In fact, when it comes to the whole abtucting of Persephone on the myth, the major source is a hymn to Demeter, which means we have the story told by the one who saw it as a fully negative thing.
But again, Hades and Persephone had the most healthy marriage on all the greek pantheon, despite the messed up origins, and Persephone was treated as an equal monarch and, depending on the source, they either never cheated on each other or cheated on equal basis, so they called it even.
So it's a surprise now people want to dig into this story of two oposities who attracted each other, or maybe not so oposites since Persephone is also the Dread Queen and could be as harcore as her husband or even more? Of course not!
So, Lore Olympus roots on them as couple, and it does sweeten the things that happened for the audience of today by not including a kidnapping.
Tumblr media
And how does that leave Demeter? Well, she was the one who oposed the marriage, so here she's an antagonist.
Though she's not a villain, she presents a lot of negative traits on this comic, which are based on a good amount of things on the actual myth. She is overprotective of her daughter, and wants to keep Persephone with her at all costs. Those two things can be a red flag with practically no effort when it comes to parenting.
Further explanation of how the mother-daughter relationship is:
We were told that the very reason Persephone came to live was because Demeter felt alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Flaw of this plan: children turn into adults, with aspirations and wishes of their own. The chances of the kid wanting to stay with you instead of living their own life is not very high.
But Demeter had a plan, and was adamant to keep Kore as someone who would stay by her side forever, and for that, she couldn't be married, and Hestia's group was perfect to get a reason for that.
But, as Kore grow older and felt ready to explore more, she started to get ideas that would lead her to aspirations that would get her away from her mother, so Demeter had to increase her ways to control Kore/Persephone. So Demeter started to include gaslighting on her tactics.
Gaslighting is the tactic that one uses to manipulate other into believe they need the gaslighter by rewrite or write their version of reality, so they'll have no other choice that to keep depending on them.
There is 11 signs of gaslighting according to an article of Dr. Stephanie Sarkis. You can find it below:
https://boffosocko.com/2018/10/04/11-warning-signs-of-gaslighting-psychology-today/
Demeter seems to have usen, for what I have seen, seven of those tactics. Now, I'm not saying Demeter doesn't love Persephone, but her need to control and keep her close resulted on using this.
She tells blantant lies. Such as how evil are banks so she doesn't have a bank account and then freedom to do things on neither the Olympus, the Sea or the Underworld. Or how she keeps Persephone in the dark about being a fertility goddess (Hades himself is was contradictory to be a perpetual virgin if she was a fertility goddess).
Denies the lies, even with the other part has proof. This appears especially with the fertility goddess thing "Kore, this is not the time to disscuss about this topic. Unrelated, I would be interested in knowing who is under the impression that you are a fertility goddess" , or when she asked Persephone to leave her to talk with Hades alone. "Mom, you clearly are going to talk about me. Not neceserally." This last one is more Demeter treating Persephone as a child.
She uses what is near and dear to Kore as ammunition. This usually is belittle and menospreciate the gaslighted using what is near or dear to them. For example, Demeter usually called Kore a child who didn't know anything about the world. Or pushed her into being able to visit Olympus on her studies only if she had a say on how that would be. At first, she was trying to make her stay on the Mortal Realm mostly, and only going to Olympus for the campus. After the incident, Demeter only allowed Persephone to go live with Artemis because Demeter saw she needed a time away.
She throws in positive reinforcement to confuse. While treating Persephone as child and even calling her naive or even ungrateful when angered, Demeter usually complimented Kore's skills, but only those she saw fit for the skillset she wanted her to have. On the lastest chapter, we saw that Persephone preffered geometry, but exchanged to calculus at the insistence of Demeter, and then Demeter praised her skill with it. She also complimented her skills as one would with a trophy child.
She proyects. "My daughter's purpose is not to be a jewell on Hades' crown!" or "It sickens me how comfortable you are to squander her unique gifts to yourself. Perhaps you intend like one of your diamonds: sparkling and useless. And I also believe you are using my daughter as a salve for all your woes". While she does that herself.
Tries to align people against Persephone. This means that those who are not agree with Demeter are not allowed in Persephone's life, so she tries to get them out of her life by making it appear they are not on Persephone's side. I mean, what do you think it would have happened if Demeter had know Eros and Persephone are friends? And on the moment Demeter knew Hera was acting to set Hades and Persephone together, she called her out. She called Artemis out because she pointed out that Kore was not a child and she could live in the city if that's what she wished to do.
Tells Persephone that she is crazy or tells others that Persephone is crazy. Translation: she undermines her daugher's judgement by telling any non-aproved idea are crazy or delusion. Like when she tells Persephone that her love for Hades is just a phase.
Again, I'm not saying that Demeter doesn't love Persephone, but again, she is set to keep her daughter to her side at all costs.
Tumblr media
Now, I'm not saying Demeter hasn't virtues. She is a fine business-woman, a badass who doesn't take any shit from Zeus and even calls him out for his bullshit, and a very compasive leader to all the nymphs she has employed and does love her daugher. So if you want to admire her for that, go ahead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But that doesn't take her controlling side and how that lead her to have a very conflictive relationship with Hades since they dissagree on most of things and how she controls Persephone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After all, she's one of the main antagonists on this comic. Of course she was going to be not very good.

[Note] Please do not feel obligated to do this! I tagged simply, because I thought it would be fun and I think you are cool. Oh! And if you do not want me to tag you next time I do one of these, please do tell me and I will make sure not to.
Also! Blank Version under the spoilers to make it easy!
LAST SONG ✦ Serendipity by Laufey
FAVORITE COLOR ✦ Pale rose pink and deep reds.
CURRENTLY WATCHING ✦ Vids on Youtube and internet situations. At the moment, looking at the Yandere Dev situation and being absolutely disgusted. It was not unexpected. That fool had years of red flags and some people just did not listen until now.
LAST MOVIE ✦ The Count of Monte Cristo (2002). I rewatched it recently with my brother. I cannot help, but enjoy movies on revenge like this one. Some terrible ancient part of me just craves to see revenge done successfully. I oddly feel some catharsis and enjoyment watching him and the friends he made destroy the people who wronged him. I am also an absolute sucker for a romance between two people forced apart by circumstances to the point they make assumptions and believe their romance cannot return-- BUT IT DOES!!! Because deep down they love each other still after all these years and recognize details about each other. Also, the outfits of Edmond Dantes sincerely fuck. Also, you cannot pay me to read the original source material. It is scuffed and I am uncomfortable with the VERY POORLY AGED parts of it.
CURRENTLY READING ✦ Too many webcomics. Help. Please. A few titles I am loving are 'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' (ORV), 'The Return of the Mad Demon', and 'My Derelict Favorite'. There are more, but these are big favorites at the moment.
SWEET/SPICY/SAVORY ✦ Sweet + Savory! I love sweet and sour flavors a lot.
LAST THING GOOGLED ✦ DND 5e Divination Wizard. Some old friends of mine said I was either that or a Chronurgy Wizard. Please be gentle, I will die from the smallest amount of damage. Yeah, sure, I can cast magic that bends time and lets me take a peek at people's past and future, but the moment you poke me with a finger in a key spot I WILL DIE.
CURRENT OBSESSION ✦ A new story idea for a comic! It's about an elite magic user who literally becomes a living library by using her body to store a bunch of magical tomes to smuggle them out of a magic organization which is trying to heavily regulate magic use in the country. Her running away becomes a whole journey where she realizes the organization she once believed in is horridly broken and how the state of the world looks like beyond her cute little office. She learns more about the challenges in her dream to see magic on every street corner, such as the need for effective and understanding teachers, the difficulty of teaching itself, and the way someone's class and quality of life affects the ease of learning. Not only is she made to reconsider previous ideas, but the reckless choice to become a living library has its own set of negative effects on her being and she is being actively hunted down by her own previous comrades. Oh there's also this cute handsome farmer who actually reads tomes and uses magic against regulations. The organization has long wanted to take him down. He's gruff, but is an absolute nerd.
CURRENTLY WORKING ON ✦ Graduate School Applications and a lot of creative projects, including a story of three demigods who hate and love each other which has me in a chokehold and the mess above.

Why Sandman newbies probably shouldn’t rely on the Wikias
This is why you probably shouldn't trust the DC Wikia for your Sandman info... There seems to be a bit of confusion about John Dee / John Burgess And John Dee (Sorcerer) as both have used the title Doctor Destiny in DC comics. DC comics is a continuity mess. The ancient sorcerer version of John Dee belongs to a continuity called Earth Prime.   Added confusion is there's another continuity called Prime Earth.  Totally not easily mixed up! The human John Dee (the one that appears in The Sandman) is not actually connected to the historic figure.  He appeared in the continuity called "New Earth."  New Earth was meant to be DC continuity after Crisis on Infinite Earths (1985 event).   Unfortunately New 52 replaced New Earth but then Rebirth restored most (if not all of it). The version of John Dee that is referenced in The Dreaming: Waking Hours (2021) is the New Earth version.  However on the DC Wikia, because of New 52, no New Earth page has been updated since 2011 or so.   Also the New Earth page for John Dee says Ruthven Sykes (Roderick’s assistant) was his father.  The Sandman audio drama and the 2018 Sandman Universe comics and The Sandman Netflix series all confirm that Roderick was the father. Don't try to make heads or tails of the DC wikia.  It's a mess. The Sandman Wikia isn't much better since there are people trying to overlap the retconned / ignored Sandman Presents continuity with the Sandman Universe (2018) continuity, and they simply can't merge, especially with events like Matthew being perma-killed off in The Dreaming (1996-2002) while he's perfectly fine in The Dreaming (2018) and there's no sign of the characters created by Caitlin R. Kiernan (1996-2002 The Dreaming). And the DC Wikia has the picture of The House of Mystery version of Cain for a page giving the bio for the "first vampire" version of Cain from the very short lived New 52, 2012 revival of "I, vampire..." Instead of trusting the Wikias you may have better luck asking other fans what you want to know.  I know human interaction can be scary but in this case it might be necessary.

Here’s apparently a wild hot take, maybe stop trying to make, dark gritty adult version of kids concepts? I think everyone can agree that there’s an over saturated of remake, spin offs, and sequels in the film and television industry right now right? And that a lot of it even if it had good aspect should just have been it’s own thing, don’t get me wrong Wednesday was good but the fact that it was an adams family spin off really really hurt it in my eyes, it should have just be its own original show. Another example in the opposite direction would be the new Velma show. I can’t think of a single good thing about it but still I feel like even though it seems universally hated, (rightfully so) it could have skirted the lines and gotten away with being a semi likable show to an average audience of people if it wasn’t a Scooby-Doo spin off. Would it have been good? No probably not but it would have atleast not been hated, connecting it to Scooby-Doo did nothing but injure the show by bringing around Scooby-Doo fans who can clearly see that it isn’t a Scooby-Doo show.
So with the part everyone can agree with out of the way let’s move to the next part. Don’t make stuff “adult” if it wasn’t in the first place, it doesn’t work, you either make a ridiculous mess that people can’t take seriously or you take away some of the most beloved aspects of that thing. For me this is most apparent in the super hero genre, I’ve always loved DC growing up but now a days there’s barely anything I like that comes out from them in any format other than games, because they try to appeal to much to their original audience that’s now grown up the the age groups they were targeting when they got those fans, and it just feels emotionless and vapid. Superheroes are inherently silly and goofy, Wonder Woman has an invisible jet and a lasso of truth, Spider-Man gets a bug bite and now he shoots webs, Bruce Wayne is the richest man in the world and spends his money making every gadget and vehicle you could possibly imagine and making all of it bat themed, let’s not forget his arch nemesis is literally a clown! It’s hard to try and be a gritty adult oriented franchise when you do that, sorry but I can’t take anything seriously when the hero of the story is a ten year old who can turn into a superhero because a wizard told him the magic word. They’re silly and goofy and that’s what I love about them, hell yeah kid shot Shazam so you can go fight the ancient Egyptian with powers he also got from a wizard! I wanna see a man in a latex bat costume beat up a scarecrow! I’m not saying they have to be Adam west Batman all the time but like stick around your age range and maybe stretching a little to one side or the other. I can’t name a single comic from the past few years I’ve enjoyed, but the two newest Spider-Man games were some of the best games I’ve ever played, the Batman Arkham games are a bit too serious at times (city was impacted very hard by everyone being so needlessly and incredibly horny all the time, really ruined my enjoyment of an otherwise solid game), but I think they represent a good maximum ceiling. And I think the reason a lot of these issues exist is because people get the green light to be adult with a franchise and immediately lose all creativity and just cram as much sex, violence, and swearing as they can in there. The big reason horror for kids such as goosebumps will always be leagues ahead of adult horror when man in mask cuts people up and it’s so bloody and gory and guy say “Oh fucking god dam shit, this crazy bastard is going to fucking kill us and shit!” Not to say those things can’t be used well, (I’d say the only adult version of comics I like is the Harley Quinn show, but even then the gore feels overly gratuitous and the show definitely has it high peaks and low low valleys, but if they stayed hard into the sort over the top, ridiculous high schooler/college student nonsense humor it could have been the best comedy show ever.) you can be taken seriously while not having an adult rating, look at the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies or Scooby-Doo incorporated those were both amazing and some of the best in their franchise without having to break the ratings ceilings
In conclusion to the -5 Hollywood executives reading this, make more original stuff instead of trying to twist existing franchises into the original show you made, stop adultifying stuff, and rethink what you definition of media for adults is, I’m sick of drowning in content for all my favorite franchises only for there to be little to none of that content being even remotely good.

Thoughts on Moon Knight? (characters, plot, representation, etc...)
To preface, I have not read the comics. All I really knew going into this was that he was basically a DID Batman tied to Ancient Egypt.
Does it make me a dumbass American that I thought Steven’s accent was really good? I’ve since heard Isaac himself rag on it but I thought it was great lol. I am so in love with lil Steven lol, I was unfathomably relieved when balancing the scales didn’t eliminate the alternate personalities. As I understand, he is not in the comics and that crushes me!
I loved being dunked in and out of different mindspaces-as-nations. Sometimes I forget how different British culture and dialect is and it’s a treat to get in the thick of it. All for Marc’s safe way of interfacing with Ancient Egypt’s influence on his life as Just A Gift Shop Cashier boy 😭
(Btw as a fish girl I AM MOURNING GUS….. He had the only adequate accommodations of any film goldfish I have ever seen and now he is GONE…!!!!)
Lesser shows would have just given us confusing whiplash but this went really well. I was so nervous they’d fail to follow through on plot threads or make a mess but there was only one I felt was dropped (The time Marc froze up instead of defending the sarcophagus with the star map.) The full blackouts were a GREAT mystery underscoring all the others. Many plots percolating!!!
I also loved the ambiguity of Khonshu. Obviously this is rather dead with the post credit scene but, considering Disney you keep expecting there to be a straightforward heroic slant and there’s kernels of one that might exist, that make you think perhaps Khonshu has hidden depths we don’t see and his bad acts are some kind of test. So he keeps doing bad things with virtuous words and you’re always guessing. I just really really love that they committed to the idea that no matter how you slice it the gods have a different conception of morality than we do. They’re alien, not just powerful versions of mortals.
All in all my concern at Disney’s ability to pull off any possible Daredevil continuation is greatly lessened!
I can’t talk much about rep as I’ve nothing in common with what the show called for. I think the DID connection is deliberately murky which I found graceful. I squealed when the little girl was happy there was an Egyptian superhero. I do find myself critical of the way several gods used British accents (Taweret in particular as she was not speaking through a vessel) considering the history of pillaging… While the villain seemed like the only full blooded Egyptian god… it’s expected that an American production would have a lot of American accents while the Brits seem like a more conscious choice… but again I am not one to speak on this.
My ONLY big issue… which I must be honest about…. Is the costume. It’s great in every way (Ethereal mummy wraps!!! With gold!!! SCREAM!!!!) except the design for the headpiece is a little unfocused and I mean that sort of literally; the hood that should be the threatening centerpiece is floppier than it should be and this character really deserves a streamlined, concrete silhouette. It makes him look like there’s not a lot of thoughts or drive in his head which we know isn’t the case. And of course they didn’t give Layla a cool hat or mask at all! 😡🤬😡 But Disney is completely allergic to superhero masks so….
Anyway there was just so much care put into just everything, I am so thirsty for more!

G-Watch: Godzilla versus Mechagodzilla (1974) Watched:  01/26/2024 Format:  Max Viewing:  Second-ish Director:  Jun Fukuda Selection:  moi Look, this week at work was a rough one, and next week is looking to be more of same.  I am tired.  And so, after watching another episode of the phenomenal fifth season of Fargo,* I put on Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974).   This movie is remarkably silly, makes no sense in parts, forgets its a monster movie for long stretches, and does nothing to develop or differentiate any of the characters, seemingly adding them as the movie goes along to help fill plot holes. The real showcase is, of course, Godzilla versus a giant robot version of himself that space aliens for a black hole(?) have built in order to take over the Earth.  Or, at least, whatever part of Earth is near the robot.  Initially, it's disguised as Godzilla, but to what end?  I cannot say.  Because they almost immediately remove the facade, and it seems like a robot is just as much a problem as the real Godzilla in how it's being deployed - by rampaging.   However, we're also dealing with a prophetic vision seen by a young woman priestess/ heir to a once great dynasty on Okinawa.  There's a prophesy to go along with it regarding two monsters joining forces to fight a great threat, but it seems odd the ancients knew Mechagodzilla was coming?  There's nothing magic about a giant robot, except the love we should all feel for Mechagodzilla. Anyway, this movie's main, non giant kaiju feature is a villain in a shiny jumpsuit who keeps smoking cigars.  I love this guy.  He really enjoys his work. The one caveat is that this is around when Toho thought they needed to add blood.  So things get weird when MechaG really messed up Anguirus (he's fiiiiine) and then G himself (also: fine).  Also:  melting alien faces. It's a fun pic, and while I don't think there's big life lessons to be learned, and it's confusing sorting out who all of these people are from time to time, this first appearance by MechaG is pretty stellar.  Where else will you find a 20-story robot that shoots rainbows out of its eyes? *Juno Temple and Jennifer Jason Leigh busily confirming they're somheow even better than you thought, and Richa Moorjani putting in a bid for "damn, put her in more stuff" in a fine breakdown of myth and Fargo's patented exploration of good and evil  https://ift.tt/74jsZ0Y via The Signal Watch https://ift.tt/5SVm8JY January 29, 2024 at 05:17PM

As I've said before, the only difference with my Sandman stories and those Gaiman wrote are that I switch the protagonist:
I use Death as the protagonist instead of Dream, but it's the same cosmology and the overall history is much the same. Gaiman is on record as noting that the same events told from Desire's perspective would have Desire as the hero and Dream as the villain, though I still have problems connecting that with the things Desire actually does in these stories and how you'd turn that into heroism unless we're using the Allan Moore/Mark Millar definition of both actions and their ultimate outcomes.
Death of the Endless is not Dream of the Endless, Death of the Endless also canonically is beyond the ancient rules of the other Endless. This hasn't been specified in the show, as yet, but since so much else is the same with the comics except in a few cases I'm running with it for the sake of the Netflix shows and providing both good reasons for why she ultimately didn't intervene (including repeatedly going to Destiny to be sure if she did she wouldn't create a tremendous mess and Destiny doing his ambiguous 'did he shape events or did his words get taken as fate' thing) and ways where things could have gone wrong if she did because, surprise surprise, she's not a superhero or a trained fighter and going into a hostile situation against people able to hold one such being intact can boomerang badly on another.
She is also established as the most human (which I extend due to setting my stories in the broader DCU for my own reasons to being the most like all life in the DCU, and they would all see her as one of them if they did) of the Endless. As such the main motif that drives her is distinct from Dream, who is caught between various facets of duty, personal life, and the gaps between them.
Death is Life as well as Death and her great frustration is that being the most like mortals leaves her the odd one out among beings like her, with psychological and other barriers nearly insuperable to breach, and where she's also too inhuman to get along with human (insert equivalent turn of phrase for every other sapient species in the broader cosmology).
One careful rule that I follow with all of this is noting that Death is human-like, not human. She will seem human enough until something abruptly happens that serves as a note that no, she's not human, she never was.....and she's fully aware of that fact. Which is one reason for playing with all the different iterations of 'being stuck as one thing and almost that but never quite it gets the full version and handles it far better than the rest of her siblings but unfortunately the universe doesn't allow for this particular thing to stick' as a storyline.
It's also why other Endless appear in the ways they do.
Tales that would switch the protagonist to any of the other Endless would likewise be able to keep the setting fully intact, without changing anything else, and merely switching the kinds of stories it would be. Desire and Despair are the obvious ones, but a Delirium-centric set of stories as a kind of surrealistic Beatnik-style tale of a wandering eldritch entity who's an adorable sister who's a coherent (more or less) seer around her family and casually Wishmastering mortals for LULZ would be just as truthful a perspective flip.
With the youngest Endless in turn defined by being treated as a child when she isn't one and being the most dangerous of all the Endless to cross for being a multiversal reality-warper without any control of her powers or understanding of why turning a person into a glass statue for shits and giggles might be seen as wrong or disturbing.
Literally any and all of the other Endless work like this, I just like Death the most so I use her as the protagonist to explore both perspective flips and how flexible the cosmology and overall narratives of Sandman as a setting actually is.
