Video Games: the new social media? Caitie Kim
Recently, my night time routine consists of playing Among Us with my roommates for at least 2 hours. After that, I get ready for bed and fall asleep trying to build a 5-star island on Animal Crossing. Admittedly, my grades suffered, but this got me thinking: what makes these games so addicting?
Tumblr media
According to 2018 data from the Pew Research Center, Facebook captures only 50% of U.S. teens, and Twitter on captures around 32%. That being said, younger users seem to be more interesting in sharing content over trading in personal information and political arguments. The Pew Research Center also found that 85% of teens were predominately active on YouTube, and 75% were active Instagram users. As if we can’t talk enough about TikTok, the platform has nearly 16 million users aged 16-24 in the U.S.
Now, these statistics may not seem surprising. However, what shocked me was that Video games are even more popular than any of these platforms: According to Epic Games, Fortnite attracts about 250 million players globally, and another cross-platform world, Roblox, has about 100 million users. For users under 20 years old, community is the biggest appeal, leading industry designers to expect that sharing experiences is the future of online interaction. According to Tami Bhaumik, the vice president of marketing and digital civility for Roblox Corporation, “Roblox is really the new form of social… it’s 3D immersion where people are able to play and experience things together, to work together as a team to accomplish a goal, and sometimes just to hang out with their friends online.”
Tumblr media
Animal Crossing, a social simulation video game, enables players to visit each other’s islands and exchange gifts. Additionally, Epic games added a “chill” game mode option called Party Royale on Fortnite, which includes a new island just for hanging out with friends. With a plethora of non-lethal weapons, like hamburgers and paintball guns, Party Royale was designed to encourage mindless nonsense, where players can chat and play soccer with friends, new and old. Epic games even introduced virtual concerts, featuring popular artists like Travis Scott and Steve Aoki. With that being said, these games are truly a social experience: both games are organized by seasons that feature special events that encourage community interaction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beyond socializing, video games have also been a great platform to share content. Minecraft players have the ability to trade custom-made buildings, and can travel from world to world. In Animal Crossing, users have the ability to design and share their own furniture and island details to 11 million players all over the world. These features closely mirror Gen Z’s interest in sharing content: Players have the perfect platform to express their creativity while having fun with friends. On top of that, video games somewhat eliminate the burden of adhering to viral trends and judgement.
Evidently, the video game industry has evolved into a new social force. However, will this trend last? Obviously, COVID-19 and mandated lockdowns contributed significantly to the industry boom. Video games can help alleviate the feeling of powerlessness and isolation from the pandemic. However, many experts believe that the video game boom won’t last. Games may continue to see a surge in players and engagement; however, the industry may lose momentum once the pandemic is over and people are back in school and offices (hopefully.)
Other industry experts expect the opposite: I found that Mike Fischer from The Diffusion Group explains it well. He states, “there may be a permanent shift in media consumption patterns a s more people discover games as both a great form of entertainment as well as a way to stay in touch with friends. The impact of games as a new form of social interaction may be the long-lasting legacy of this pandemic for the industry.” With that being said, advertisers began entering the video game realm: In 2018, advertisers spent $1.5 billion putting their messages into games. Increased use now makes the medium attractive and effective. Personally, I would argue that video games will continue evolve into a social platform; however, I believe it will never replace Instagram or Twitter. At the end of the day, video games are not for everyone. It will definitely be interesting to see where the industry ends up going in the next 10 years.
Whether you love or hate them, gaming is now a portal into, rather than an escape from community. While video games are like virtual playgrounds, they are best experienced together like real-world play spaces.

A Cabin For Two | Chapter 1: Here Comes the Sun
Bucky Barnes x Reader
summary: you and Bucky live another day in paradise and visit an old friend
warnings: just a little angst... and some internalized anger towards Steve Rogers
A/N: mainly a setup chapter, also this is my way of letting out pent out emotions towards the writers of endgame’s decision of sending Steve back in time
prologue
Tumblr media
A normal day in the cabin consisted of semi-early mornings with something sizzling on the stove and the strong fragrance of coffee wafting through the dewy morning air. To the normal person, life in the middle-of-nowhere-New-York seems isolating and boring, but for two ex-hydra elite super soldiers, there is nothing better.
As Bucky brews a fresh batch of dark roasted perfection, you flip the finale of the stack of pancakes he suggested to make in bed some time earlier, and there is comfortable silence between the two of you, as you hear the coffee maker sing and feel your pristine white cat, Alpine, rub against your ankles.
Bucky comes up behind you and wraps his built arms around your waist, humming a Sinatra song you both originally missed out on in the 50’s. You smile, tossing the final silver dollar pancakes onto the tray to your right. He slips back away from you in time to turn off the stove and turn to see him now reaching out for you to dance with him as he begins to sing the words of a totally different song, probably from an entirely different era. (70 years of music is hard to catch up on)
“Here comes the sun…” He quietly sings to you as you step into his embrace, “And I say… It’s all right.” He serenades you, off key as his voice is still sleepy and gravelly, as you slow dance in the kitchen, Alpine circling you two.
“That’s not what you were humming earlier.” You contentedly point out.
“Forgot the words to that one,” He replies and continues singing The Beatles song.
“Doo-dun-doo-doo”
After he slowly closes out the tune, you gather your pancakes, syrup, coffee (of course), and some assorted fruits, and go out to the front porch. Out there, a small picnic table on your porch basks in the rising morning sun. You splay out your food and utensils, sit, and merrily eat, listening to birds chirp and watching bunnies scurry back to their homes.  Bucky’s eyes are shining as he watches the sun slowly rise. Neither of you know what time it is, your best guess is 7 or 8, but it doesn’t matter. There’s no missions to be sent out on, no reports to file, and  no one ordering you where to be. It’s you, Bucky, and mother nature, and you couldn’t ask for anything more.
“Y/N?” Bucky asks after a while, snapping you out of your content haze. His voice is quiet and soft, as if he intended to not startle you.
“Yes?”
“What should we do today?” You knew he was going to ask this question, for he asks it everyday. Somedays you go fishing or hunting, others you curl up by the fireplace and read to each other, and others you go on hikes, but no matter what the answer turns out to be, it’s the perfect answer.
“I don’t know, my love, is there anything you want to do today?”
“Can we visit Steve today? It’s been a while since…” He begins to attempt to justify, but you don’t need to hear it. Nothing broke your heart more than when Bucky found out Steve went back to the 40’s. You loved Steve, for he was everything to Bucky, and you do your best to be everything for him.
“Of course. Do you want to pick wildflowers to bring him? I want some for a centerpiece in our dining room too.” You offer, knowing that bringing Steve small gifts, like pies or paintings, helps Bucky know he’s doing everything he can for his best pal. Part of it hurts to see it, for it angers you that he would leave you two, that he would leave Bucky helpless and alone in a new world far from the one you knew.
It’s a short walk to a hill behind your cabin that’s draped in flowers. Having a lot of time on your hands, you began studying the natural floral of the state. Your personal favorite was the Trientalis borealis, or starflower, for it reminds you of the star on Bucky’s old arm, the one you used as a symbol for hope in your days with hydra. Waking up from cryo, you always searched for that deep red star, so you could know your soldier was there with you. Bucky loves Claytonia caroliniana, the spring beauties, only because he loved putting them in your hair. He claimed that the pale pink complimented your y/h/c strands perfectly.
Bucky picked some trout lilies, their petals a vibrant yellow, and you added some white wood aster to go with them. After adding some other plants you’re yet to learn about, you march back to your cabin and tie off the bouquet with some twine before getting into Bucky’s silver Jeep and heading to the city.
Steve’s eyes light up when he sees you and Bucky walk through the door, just like how Bucky’s light looking at the morning sun. Supposedly, there’s not much for America’s Golden Boy at Sunny Acres Nursing Home, so maybe Bucky is his sun.
“Bucky! Y/N!” Steve weakly greets the two of you as you walk in. Bucky is like a child, smiling at his wrinkled best friend, holding the small bouquet behind his back. He happily skips to the right side of the bed Steve is currently in, grinning ear to ear.
“We brought you these,” Bucky says as he presents Steve with the twine bound wildflowers you had picked this morning, “I hope you like them, we picked trout lilies this time to brighten up your room.”
“Geez, punk, don’t go soft on me now,” Steve jokes, “I love them.” With those simple words, Bucky beams. He can’t bear to think about how he was no longer there for Steve during his years on ice, so he tries everything to make it up to him during his final years.
“Jerk.” Bucky mumbles.
“Hey, Buck, y’all catch up. I’ll put the flowers in a vase.” You pitch in, taking the flowers to the small kitchenette on the other side of the room. Replacing the last bouquet you brought him now dried out and wilting, you find a nurse there preparing a meal. “Oh, sorry, I didn’t see you there!” You politely greet her, “My names Y/N.”
“Oh, I know, if it wasn’t for the news stories, it would be from Steve constantly talking about you and Mr. Barnes,” she says, “My name is Helen. I’m Mr. Roger’s primary caregiver.”
“Thank you for all you do for our friend. You said he talks about us a lot?” You inquire.
“Oh, all the time. He’s told me so many stories of the Avengers, and of course of  him and Mr. Barnes from before World War II. His stories are incredible!” Her smile is genuine as he continues the soup for Steve, “You know, as much as some of the other heroes try to come and visit him, nothing compares to how happy he is after Bucky visits. It’s really incredible how close they are.”
“Yes… It is.” You can’t help but feel a ting in your stomach when she said that. A small part of you will never forgive Steve for leaving Bucky, but you gotta get over it at some point.
Suddenly, you hear Steve erupt in a wheezy laughter at something Bucky says. Interested, you lean against the frame of the kitchen’s entrance to get a better ear to what they’re saying.
“...and Sam couldn’t stop laughing! It was one of the craziest things Alpine has ever done. Maybe I should bring him here! He’s quite the cuddler.” Bucky finished a story about your beloved cat, and you smile at the two super soldiers talking as if nothing ever happened.
“‘Scuse me,” Helen squeezes past you through the door, soup in hand, “Here’s your lunch, Mr. Rogers.”
“Helen, dear, please call me Steve.” Steve chuckles, “So how is Sam? He was here a couple of weeks ago. Is he still working with the shield?”
“He is. Sometimes he comes over, so I can help him get used to it. I guess it’s not as easy for someone without the serum.” Sam resided in a cabin not too far from yours, and he came over a good amount. If there was anyone who came close to filling the whole Steve left in Bucky, it was The Falcon himself.
“That’s good. The three of you should come up together sometime… with Alpine too!” Steve says, his attention then shifts to you across the room, “How are you, Y/N? Keeping Bucky busy I hope.”
“Oh definitely!” You laugh, striding to his bed, “‘few days ago, we shot a buck early in the morning. My guess was a good 160 pounds. We cooked it and invited Sam over for ribs that night! Had enough leftovers for two days.”
“Didn’t know deer-pot-pie was a thing until she figured out how to make it!” Bucky added, pulling you in by the waist and kissing the top of your forehead. You can’t help but glance down at the portrait of Peggy on his bedside table; right next to a picture of him and Bucky from the war.
The three of you converse for hours, and before you know it, Helen is bringing Steve his dinner. She politely points out that visiting hours are almost over, but that you’re welcome back anytime. You bid farewell to Steve and return to your vehicle for the drive back home.
“Buck?” You timidly say in the car, “Do you ever wish you went back to the 40’s with him?”
He thinks for a while, until he finally speaks, “I don’t think there was anything for me… besides Steve of course. Now, I have you. As long as I have you, I’m happy in any century.”
You bathe once again the happy silence for the rest of the car ride. How did you get so lucky? You did terrible, unimaginable things during your time under Hydra control, so why did the universe let you have someone so magnificent as James Buchanan Barnes?
You’re greeted by Alpine as soon as you step over the threshold of your front door. By the time you got back, the sun had begun to set, so you began to start on dinner. Bucky marinated fish you had gotten at a local farmers market the other day, while you washed vegetables from the garden you had out back for a salad.
The two of you sat together at your mahogany dining table, centered with a bouquet of wildflowers similar to the one you gifted Steve. The two of you made small talk, nothing but plans for the next day and compliments to each other on dinner… Until Bucky suddenly says:
“Y/N?” He began, “You know I love you, right?”
“And I love you.”
“You’re everything I’ll ever need, doll, you’re the hope I had in Hydra, and you’re the life I had after it. Ever since I first laid eyes on you at that war camp, I knew you were the gal for me. You’re my world. Never forget that.”
A tear begins to slide down your face, but you didn’t notice it until Bucky wiped it from your cheek, “Thank you, Bucky, I love you so much.”
The sun leaves you and your lover, ending another perfect day in the middle-of-nowhere-New-York.

2020 January 13-18 Consistent Progressive Overload
"I think Tai Chi is great for everybody. So if you're older it's going to help with bone density like I said it's going up with balance it's going to help people feel stronger. If you are a young athlete, top of your game, you're only going to improve doing Tai Chi, because it develops very minute nuanced movement, sensitive...if you're moving slowly, you're moving really slow, you're gonna go thru all of your fibers, slow twitch all the way to fast twitch, the idea behind Tai Chi is you move slowly, so that over time it'll help you move much faster, it seems paradoxical, but it actually works really well because you learn to relax while doing a movement that creates an engram or a pattern, and when you need to move quickly you've wired or in, you've hard wired it in. So it can develop speed it can develop timing, it can develop sensitivity because you're often working as if you're moving thru water. So this resistance is imagined resistance, is going to allow me to become more sensitive to what's around me. Thru releasing the tension in the body you're gonna have more range of motion, so you don't always have to stretch something out, you can release what's in the way. So you let go of what's in the way and you'll have more range of motion. So it's a process of cultivating energy by releasing what's in the way. So it's not diminutive. You'll let go of the obstacles and become more natural, and when you become more natural you know we have potential to swim miles, climb trees, to jump, we all have rocketing potential, so it's really just, getting out of the way." ~ Matthew Cohen
Week 6 (mixed: heavy neg & fst pos) 6-8/FST
https://youtu.be/UOTcelJ3lpU nobody’s gonna stop you from eating garbage except you
The two week difference, some muscle definition and size; bicep length had disappointed until this rip rep style, the moderate negative/lowering movement reps, only work with full muscle recruitment, agitates deep tissue imho, and lackluster the end of each set, but definitely shows which short-twitch fibers (ex. glutes, strong burst) are undertrained. -- The slow positive reps are, fascia and core-expanding, but only when, slow and connected and concentric, perhaps a trifecta, the release is less than a second, only long for blood in blood out, delivering oxygen and ATP or wtfe to muscles; full range contractions will shrink reps per set make or break; some good sets end with myself intending to go heavier next time, but too heavy both can wringout/break concentric flex, and can tear tendons in the usual places, lack of b/w set rests, lack of knowhow. -- Slow negative reps, can and will shit the bed. -- Slow positive reps, shock and awe, but take the piss when there's at least one more rep. -- Putting them together burns intramuscular fat, providing density (?) but at high energy cost. Get your timing right, breathing pattern, don't hold your breath, and something something live learn decide wait observe, shuffle.
Vinegar and salt will clean a manky whey shaker cup. Slow-positive ab exercises work best, scissor kicks and bicycle crunch.

Forgot to add planks to abs day; forgot to go lowfat till after workout, need heat. /// https://www.bodybuilding.com/content/the-myth-of-toning.html “People think to get toned all they need to do is very high reps and a little resistance with moderate to long rests.” ...when it’s somewhere b/w, to paraphrase, you can do weighted cardio, to add, walking will rejuvenate, some are made for mountains.
#34 Lite Push  c/lb/x >> FST

Pork rice soup, greasy, delicious, didn’t get enuf ‘PWO’ to metabolize it all on the go, and end of session sorta chill, the reverse row machine, just called “abs” was best, 90lbs push, right lat raise, and/or, straight arm pulldown prolly worst; reconsidering vegan AM and buying soy protein isolate powder to add AM intake, store has little to no quinoa; negative-centric reps, are harder, or underdeveloped, and wary of tomorrow’s heavy lowering(s) session, added a meal to counter probably yippie traps, and should roller stretch?
A part of me feels I should do more hoists, or rope center curls that is, and the chest press machine, instead of the smith bench. Neutral-grip dumbbells. Plate press. Oh, the rev-row at 90 was terminal/efficient resistance.
#35 Slow Pull

+unsure better up/down; good session;
#36 FST Legs
Treadmill 10 > Body Squat *7/x > Horiz Press *7/50*3,70*3,90- > *Horizon 1-leg *7/10*3,30*4- > *Cable Bends *7/35*7-Lf > Leg Ext *7/10103030505070- > Leg Curl *7/30305050505050 > Heel Raise *7/3050*2,70*2,90*2 > Rev row Crunch *7/90*7 > Rope/Crunch *7/50*2,65*2,80*2,95- > Twist *7/50607080 > Treadmill?
Rope crunch pull only straight down, 5deg of some triceps involved/work. Maybe want heavier hoists, leg presses; abs order Sat is great, breathe deep and stretch core before oblique twist; What level should face pulls be?

Winterspider - cult of Synanon au [pt1]
THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM AM I RIGHT
Tumblr media
This is another idea I had for another ship that got stalled, and anon you actually kickstarted my brain because it works so much better for Winterspider thank you 💕 I know it’s not quite fluffy at the end just yet, but there will be a pt 2!
2.3k words - this is based off of the real life cult of Synanon, look ‘em up if you’re into weird cult shit, it’s horrifying ---------
He got caught trying to steal canned soup. With his baseball cap down low and a faded gray hoodie on, Bucky had thought it was safe. He smuggled two cans of Campbell’s vegetable soup into his hoodie pockets and strolled out the door. The cops were waiting for him beyond the corner, and he never made it back to the foster home where Rebecca was waiting for him.
Juvie was hell. It was an improvement in some ways - he got three hot meals a day, had a lumpy but warm bed, and the detention center even had a little library with some mangled books. But being separated from Rebecca, that was the worst feeling he’d ever experienced in his entire life. Even worse than finding out their parents were dead was the guilt of knowing that he’d failed them, failed Rebecca, left her to fend for herself in a negligent foster home. He tossed and turned in his cot for the first few nights, plagued by thoughts of his little sister hating him, or worse, of her quiet resignation as yet another person failed to protect her like they’d promised.
He didn’t sleep until the third night, when his bunkmate Sam told him, “You ain’t helping her by killing yourself like this.” That and the complete exhaustion lulled Bucky into a dead slumber.
This, Bucky thought, was the worst feeling in the world.
Then a month into his incarceration, the detention center was audited and to no one’s surprise, it was deemed dangerously overcrowded. A lovely farm upstate had volunteered to take on a few juveniles, they said, and Bucky and Sam were ordered onto a school bus that shuttled 50 of them five hours north.
The detention center dropped them off in the middle of a farm, isolated for miles around, wiped their hands of those pesky delinquents, and drove back to the city. “This is a cult,” Sam realized as they were herded through the compound, and Bucky nodded in quiet agreement.
That night, the ‘community leader’, a lean man in his 40s with deceptively warm, brown eyes who introduced himself as Emrys, spread his arms and beamed at his sullen audience. “Your paths are laden with sin. I sense a great deal of violence in your pasts. But you’re home now. You’ll be expected to do your part for your new family, but in return, you’ll find meaning and purpose - a calling that you used to fill with drugs, violence and sex.” He smiled genially at them. “Things are already better for you, I promise.”
Things didn’t get better. The cult, in between preachings of cleansing and forgiveness, emphasized breaking down the ego to rebuild anew. This mostly consisted of ‘group therapy’ where community members were gathered into a room and berated for each of their flaws and ugly histories. Bucky watched as the cult members screamed and called each other drug addicts, whores, junkies, shitty mothers and useless sons. At the end of each session, Emrys swooped in, touching a gentle palm to their foreheads and ‘built them back up’, murmuring about how his beloved children had an opportunity to repent, a second chance at life here. “Today is the first day of the rest of your life,” he said each time, and those inoculated would weep, clutching at Emrys’ jacket sleeves and thank him for believing in them.
As they worked in the gardens, Bucky and Sam exchanged what they saw. “We gotta get out of here,” Sam hissed, his eyes flicking from side to side for the supervisors. “This is straight up Jonestown in the making, you know how that ends, don’t you?”
Bucky bent over, pretending to pull out weeds. “There’s nothing for miles around, where would we even go?”
Sam shrugged, the line of his shoulders tensing as the supervisor strolled closer to their section of the garden. “There’s some talk in my bunk,” he continued in a low voice. “Remember Winston, the ginger from juvie?” Bucky nodded slowly. “He’s talking to others, saying they’re gonna try and make a break for it later this week, while everyone’s at community prayer.”
“That’s a stupid idea,” Bucky said immediately, glaring up at Sam from where he was hunched on the ground. “Doing it while everyone’s gathered in one place? Everyone’s gonna know right away. Plus Winston’s a fucking moron, you really think he’s got a good plan going?”
Huffing out a sigh, Sam kicked at Bucky’s boot. “You got a better plan?”
Bucky pursed his lips and shook his head. “Don’t do it, Sam,” he said quietly. “I’m serious.”
Stretching his arms over his head, Sam looked up at the dusky sky. “I won’t,” he said slowly. “But we can’t stay here forever, Buck. This place is evil, and you know it too.”
That Friday night, things got worse.
During community prayer, Bucky kept scanning the crowd for Winston and his crew, and of course he saw no sign of them. Standing at his podium at the front of the temple, Emrys spread his arms wide, his brown eyes glittering with some smug satisfaction as he preached about young lambs who needed to lose their way before they could be saved. As Emrys gazed over his followers, his dark, omniscient eyes landed briefly on Bucky, and a horrible chill shuddered down his spine.
But it wasn’t until after everyone went to bed that all hell broke loose.
Bucky was lying awake in his bunk, staring at the ceiling and thinking of Rebecca as usual when he heard distant shouting and the barking of dogs. He sat up in his bed, looking to the door of the cabin. “What’s that?” He asked quietly.
Two of his bunkmates were asleep, but another kid was awake as well. He shook his head at Bucky in confusion.
Stepping into his boots, Bucky got up and crept to the door. The yelling came closer, and among the voices he could hear higher voices - mostly teenagers’ screams. Dread sunk cold in his chest, and he looked back at his bunkmate. “I’m gonna see what’s going on.”
Outside, a scene of chaos was unfolding. The would-be runaways were being rounded up back to the compound, their clothes disheveled and muddied and, Bucky realized with a jolt of horror, gashed with blood. A pack of dogs herded them along, snarling and barking at the stragglers. Bucky recognized the community’s sentries hemming in the runaways on all sides, striking at them with bats and flashlights.
“Hey!” called a voice, and Bucky turned, seeing a scrawny brunet boy he vaguely recognized standing outside another cabin and watching. The boy’s call went unnoticed and a sentry struck one of the runaways across the forehead, sending him crumpling to the ground. “Stop it!” cried the scrawny boy, and he ran into the fray.
“Jesus Christ,” Bucky muttered under his breath, breaking into a run as he watched the sentries start on him as well. “Get off, he’s injured!” he shouted, throwing an arm up to shield his face. The scrawny boy ducked under Bucky’s arm and grabbed the unconscious kid under his armpits, starting to drag him away. “Stop, you’re killing them,” he roared as a bat landed hard on his back. Furious, he turned to his attacker and punched him in the face. He didn’t get the chance to do anything else - he heard the heavy thunk of a bat before the pain registered, splitting agony down his skull. As Bucky’s vision swam and went fuzzy, all he could hear was the howling of dogs.
This was the worst feeling in the world.
Sharp, thudding pain pulsed behind Bucky’s eyeballs, and he briefly wished someone would knock him out again so he didn’t have to be awake anymore. “Fuck,” he muttered, and he heard a startled yelp to his right side.
“Oh thank god,” came Sam’s voice, and Bucky cracked his eyes open, wincing at the low lighting. To his surprise though, it wasn’t Sam leaning over him. At first, in his addled state, Bucky felt certain that he had died, and this was an angel peering down at him.
Large brown eyes blinked owlishly at Bucky. It was the scrawny boy from earlier, his soft brown hair haloed in a golden corona from the lamplight. “You’re not Sam,” Bucky said intelligently, and the boy laughed.
“You’re alive,” the boy said with relief, smiling at him. He had a pretty smile, a nice laugh, Bucky noted dimly.
Sam came into view then, crossing his arms and looking down at Bucky quite unimpressed. “You would’ve died if Peter hadn’t saved your ass,” he informed him.
Bucky gingerly touched his skull. “I wouldn’t have had to save your ass in the first place if you hadn’t run out there,” he complained, shooting a rueful look up at Peter.
Peter flushed pink. “They were killing him,” he said meekly.
His little frown made Bucky feel like he’d just kicked a puppy. “I’m just giving you shit,” he said gruffly, sitting up and looking around Sam’s and Peter’s cabin. “It was brave. But stupid.”
“You’re both brave and stupid,” Sam said firmly. “We barely dragged your lifeless body back in here, you know.”
“What happened?” Bucky asked, groaning as pain throbbed dully over his back and shoulders. “What happened to the other kids?”
Peter and Sam exchanged a look. “They got taken to isolation,” Peter said quietly. At Bucky’s questioning look, he grimaced. “You’re newer. You wouldn’t have heard of it. They don’t like people knowing about isolation until they’re… y’know.”
“Brainwashed,” Sam supplied helpfully.
“Yeah.” Peter lowered his eyes, picking up a damp washcloth and soaking it in a little basin. He lifted the rag and held it out, gently patting it across his forehead. Bucky blinked, seeing the rag come away pink with his blood. “They put addicts in there to force them clean. It’s awful.”
“Will they be okay?” Bucky asked, dread unfurling cold in his chest again.
Peter shrugged. “They’ll get out, but they won’t be the same. If you think what happens up here is brainwashing, the stuff that they do in isolation…” He shuddered, dipping the rag back into the basin. “You don’t get out until you’re without a doubt converted.”
“Fuck. We gotta get out of here,” Bucky said, his breath coming in short now. “I gotta get back to the city.”
“Oh, now you agree with me?” Sam crossed his arms over his chest, unsympathetic.
Bucky flipped him off and to his surprise, Peter’s face broke into a wide grin. He was adorable. “I got to thinking,” he started, looking carefully at the door as if to check for eavesdroppers, “Winston’s plan was stupid.”
“Thank you,” Bucky said emphatically, flinching when another spike of pain shot through his head.
“Lie back,” Peter huffed, and he pressed his small hands down on Bucky’s chest, flattening him against the lumpy cot. Bucky let himself be tucked into bed, and he watched with some amusement and disbelief as this skinny, angelic boy bustled about the cabin, unperturbed by his delinquent company as he dumped out the dirty basin water and fetched a clean pillowcase. “Just running will never work. They’ve got hunting dogs and cars--”
“They’ve got cars?” Sam hissed in outrage. “They’ve been makin’ us haul feed two miles in the blazing sun, talking about work ethic and purity of the mind--”
“So we need to get out with their approval,” Peter continued. “They have to willingly let us off campus, either as missionaries or running errands.”
“But that will only get us so far,” Bucky said, raising himself so Peter could tuck a fresh pillow under his head.
Peter’s face lit up in another smile. God, he was pretty. “We don’t have to make it all the way back to the city. We just need to make it out of their jurisdiction.”
“You’ve thought this all through,” Bucky realized. “Why wait until now? Why didn’t you do this before, before Winston and his crew? Security’s going to be way tighter now that there’s already been one escape attempt.”
Peter met his eyes, warm brown and wide with fear. “I was waiting for the right people,” he admitted. “I only get one chance at this. If I get caught, Dad’s gonna kill me. Literally kill me.”
“Dad?” Sam repeated, squinting at him.
With a jolt, Bucky realized where he recognized those dark brown eyes - deceitful and dominating where he’d seen them before, but heartfelt and kind in Peter. “Oh shit,” he breathed.
Peter nodded, his face determined. “Any objections to breaking out with the cult leader’s kid?”
Sam and Bucky looked at one another, nodding their silent agreement. “Well Emrys Junior,” Sam said, clapping Peter on the shoulder. “Looks like you’re our best bet, so we don’t got much of a choice, do we?”
Peter wrinkled his nose in distaste. “Please, his name’s Rick. I wanna get out of this festering hellhole as bad as you two. You know he doesn’t let us watch movies? I just wanna watch King Kong.”
A laugh came unbidden from Bucky’s lips, startling him for a moment with how foreign it felt. He sat back up, ignoring Peter’s concerned face and grabbed the kid’s hand in his. “Peter, you get us out of here and I’ll take you to the movies every day,” he said seriously.
Flushing pink again, Peter looked down at their joined hands, then back up at Bucky. He nodded seriously, his eyes warm and earnest. “I will. We will,” he promised softly.
Things weren’t great. Bucky was still trapped in a cult hundreds of miles from his sister and he had a headache that felt like an axe was wedged between his ears, but this was hope.
Things were better.

9 Tips for Building Crazy Shoulders
There is no rejecting the influence that an astonishingly well established collection of shoulders has, whatever area of life you are encountering. In the weight area, at the coastline, in the conference room or the bed room, there is definitely no refuting the impact that you leave upon your peers when your deltoids are round and full and also completely created. Sticking out from the pack is a wind if you can place in the hrs as well as initiative needed to fully create them. Have a look at these ideas for pressing your shoulder advancement to the max!
Compounds First off, you need to select the right kind of movements. Isolation and also cord work behaves later, however the initial 12 to 15 collections of your workout should contain heavy iron job. Presses (pinhead, Smith device, weights and also hammer Strength) ought to come first to construct up the thickness. Maintain your embed in the 6 to 10 rep each set variety. Going too heavy, consisting of triples (3 associates each collection) or perhaps songs (1 associate each collection) is a recipe for shoulder damages. If you can not move the weight for 6 repeatings, then you need to most likely peel a little off bench. You're not attempting to damage any type of powerlifting goals - you simply intend to boost the front deltoids with some hefty steel moving!
Isolate with high reps Now that you've hurt the shoulders with the heavy things, it's time to run on down to seclusion work. Much less weight for even more reps is the key for success when constructing up the side deltoids. The cords, dumbbells, equipments and also indeed, also kettlebells, could all enter play now. The goal is to bring the maximum amount of blood feasible into those shoulder muscles. You achieve this using slow-moving repeatings with light weight. Pump, pump, pump away with the goal being to attain the best pump in the background of training. You uncommitted exactly what the poundage reads for the seclusion portion. Just pump it up!
Respect the rotator cuff As always, heat up the shoulder region with sluggish movements using a 5 extra pound plate to heat up the shoulder region. A potter's wheel cuff injury can cost you months in the fitness center or years of progression, and also is generally completely preventable. Constantly begin light on shoulder day, massage your shoulders as you educate, and also stop your workout at the sign of any kind of injury. Level bench press is well-known for causing shoulder injuries, so utilize that motion in a limited basis if you have any type of background of shoulder damage.
Vary the movements Kettlebells, pinheads, cords and also weights each supply a distinctive angle of strategy for the muscle groups you are targeting. None transcends to the other, simply as no leg of a table is much more essential than one more. They all offer unique methods to boost the shoulders for new muscular tissue growth. The most efficient movement is the one you really did not use recently. Keep throwing variations at your shoulders so that they'll constantly be forced to expand. The minute you make things predictable for the muscle mass, growth halts!
Watch the scale climb Muscle weight is actually a whole lot much heavier than fat weight. And also if you want your shoulders to cover off the means you imagine them from muscular tissue magazines, then you are going to have to include some beef to your body. This implies the range will certainly relocate up, up, up! Acquiring a little bit of weight is not only acceptable, but REQUIRED if your goal is to include muscular tissue mass to your shoulders. Plan on a 5 to 15 extra pound modification in your general total muscular tissue mass when all is stated as well as done.
Plenty of sets When it involves lots of muscle teams, you could escape just using a few collections. Abdominal muscles are trained after 8 or 10 minutes. You could enjoy an excellent biceps pump in under 20 minutes. Do you desire outstanding shoulders? Please commit 30 to 40 to 50 mins to them weekly. Slow-moving pumps are the way to go with the ultimate in shoulder growth. You aren't visiting maximum growth results if you're educating them at a minimum.
Their very own training day! Shoulders are usually a muscular tissue team without a residence. They'll wind up stapled to the tail end of a back or chest training day, never ever actually enjoying the focus that features being FIRST on a training day. If your routine and also healing levels enable it, try providing shoulders their personal training day. You may rapidly find you were just providing half-effort by positioning a couple of collections for them somewhere else. Target them when you are fresh as well as at your greatest, and they'll expand at a quicker price because of the strength you reveal them!
Don't neglect traps Your traps are the muscular tissue sheaths that link the neck to the shoulders. You would not know it, from the way some lifters train, completely ignoring them! If you desire optimal shoulder (as well as general body advancement) after that you need to target the traps each week with shoulders. Simply 4 to 8 collections of weights, Smith, pinhead or device shrugs (directly and down) will certainly give your body the stimulation needed for a thick collection of traps.
Patience is key Consistency in time is just what will provide you the shoulders you want. There are no shortcuts of quick solutions. You could run an ECA stack and have abs in a couple of weeks. Building insane vast shoulders will take a lot longer, so you need to be individual. Do not transform up your shoulder training regular too frequently or you'll suppress your results by never ever allowing a program job. Videotape your cause ensure you are putting your training resources in the ideal area!
Crazy shoulders will not get here overnight. For many lifters, they are the muscle mass group that eventually winds up taking the longest to develop. If you are eager to put in the constant and also consistent job, you will certainly be able to develop them to their maximum potential in less compared to 2-3 years. From there, it's nearly continuouslying include portions of inches and also preventing injury. Maintaining those shoulders remarkable is a full-time job. Are you for the challenge?

Covid-19 & Millennials
The effects that the Covid-19 pandemic is having on Millennials and Generation Z youth, respectively those born between 1984 and 1995 and those born between 1996 and the early 2000s, are mainly related to their mental health. In fact, the pandemic was considered a true collective trauma.
The real possibility of contracting the virus, the uncertainty of the future, job and economic insecurity, lockdown and constant exposure on social media to a multitude of information, which often turns out to be false, have done nothing but instill in young people (but not only) forms of anxiety and worry.
For Millennials and Generation Z, the comparison with previous generations, who considered them irresponsible, lazy, slackers and, in some ways, even responsible for the second wave of contagions, was inevitable. So, in addition to anxiety about the future, there is also the often unfounded criticism of parents, relatives and grandparents.
In addition, for young people the limitations to social relations can result in real psychological damage. What they are experiencing is in fact the age of group outings, of fun, of evenings with friends and of first loves. The pandemic, however, has forced them to stop their sociability and take refuge in technology. If, on the one hand, technology, with its messages and video calls, can be an excellent alternative for continuing to cultivate relationships, on the other hand, abusing the internet and social networks can increase anxiety and lead to depression.
In all this, distance learning for schools and universities is difficult, with questions and exams online, poor connections, hours spent in front of the computer, internships and apprenticeships often suspended or in smartworking mode. Doubts are growing: will I be able to complete the internship? Will I be able to graduate on time? Will I be able to pass the year? These are certainly the questions that are proving to be a source of anxiety for students today.
Teenagers are becoming increasingly lonely and, according to some research, 20-year-olds are even more isolated than retirees. The smartphone can become the only foothold for a social life, swallowing up any chance to meet and hang out with other people. People prefer sexting instead of having sex, ordering food on Just Eat instead of going out to eat, watching Netflix instead of going to the movies. And so gradually people stop meeting new people, because the situations in which it is possible to do so are increasingly reduced. For some, the cell phone and the potential it offers to be connected with a world that would otherwise be unreachable becomes the only reason to live. According to a survey conducted by Telefono Azzurro, 17% of adolescents are unable to disconnect from smartphones and social networks and 1 in 5 wakes up during the night to check them.
The smartphone is not the cause of all evil, but only a tool, as Cesare Guerreschi, psychologist and psychotherapist, founder and president of S.I.I.Pa.C., the Italian Society for Intervention on Compulsive Pathologies, reminds us. The center, which has five locations throughout Italy, deals with the treatment of behavioral addictions and, although it was founded to combat gambling addiction, today in the Bolzano location alone it treats 156 adolescents for nomophobia, the fear of being disconnected and away from the phone.
"With the advent of the new millennium and consequently mass technology, new ways of expressing discomfort have developed," Guerreschi explains. "All addictions, including new addictions, have at their base a unique pattern of behaviors, such as craving, which consists of a very strong and impelling desire for the object of addiction. For drug addicts it can be the spasmodic search for the substance. For the cyber addict it can be the constant need to access the smartphone." For the nomophobic, being away from the cell phone causes anxiety, malaise and uncontrolled anger.
The so-called new addictions, therefore, would be nothing different from those we are used to knowing. In the eighties, drug use was the generational response to a convulsive and incomprehensible time, despite the promises of widespread well-being of Reagan hedonism. The creation of a hallucinogenic para-reality was the most obvious way to escape from the surrounding reality - this also thanks to the contribution of a rebellious imaginary fed by the counterculture, especially music - and the return of heroin and cocaine on the market and the arrival of new synthetic drugs such as crack destroyed an entire generation. Today, smartphone addiction expresses a similar discomfort, although in a less dramatic and obvious way: as during the crack epidemic, the economy is recovering and unemployment rates are stable, but young people continue to create a parallel reality for themselves, in this case a virtual one, refusing to come to terms with the world.
And as in the 1980s, this other reality comes at a high price, even if it is no longer overdoses that kill young people: since 2011, suicide rates among teens have risen alarmingly. At the same time, other risk factors have decreased, such as drug and alcohol abuse and even traffic accidents, but this is not because teens have suddenly become prudent or diligent, but more simply because they don't leave the house to be on their cell phones. Millennials, in short, are safer than teenagers of any other era have ever been. As Jean Twenge, who for years has been conducting studies and research on those born after 1995 (whom she has dubbed iGen, i.e., the generation that can't remember the world without the Internet), acknowledges, parents have also played their part in this, translating an asphyxiating sense of overprotection into the possibility of letting kids do basically whatever they want, as long as they're supervised. Do you want to go to the disco? Okay, I'll take you there and stand in the corner with the other moms. Thus, the myth of adolescent rebellion has also fallen, because the space for insubordination is reduced and the desire for independence languishes in children. And the lack of independence leads to unhappiness.
In spite of the apprehension, according to Dr. Guerreschi, parents are still distant and are not able to talk to their children: "The virtual relationship has replaced the human relationship, even in the most natural relationship that is the one with parents. By now, parents and children communicate through cell phones and via chat, without talking to each other." According to the survey of Telefono Azzurro, four out of five respondents use social networks to communicate daily with their children: the paradoxical thing is that children are constantly told to put the phone away, when it is precisely the adults who abuse it, often using it as the only means of communication with them. Almost all of the young patients at S.I.I.Pa.C. were brought to the center by their parents, and almost all of them are in family therapy.
Twenge also argues that teen segregation occurs not only within families, but more importantly among friends. The progenitor of social, Facebook, is based on friendships that, while virtual, are still friendships. But millennials don't just use Facebook, they also use Instagram, where the number of friends is replaced by the number of followers, a much larger and more indistinct mass. So the desire to be part of a group, of a community, has been replaced by the desire to make a number, that is, not to be left out. This is a very common desire in young people of all ages, but it has become one-way and unrealizable: it is no longer a matter of not being left out of the coolest group at school, but of a social network that has a billion active users.
This phenomenon apparently particularly affects girls, whose depressive symptoms increased by 50% from 2012 to 2015 and who, according to Twenge, committed the highest number of suicides. Females experience more cyberbullying (males still prefer physical assaults) and feel more pressure from beauty standards. When they post a new photo, the research says, they obsessively check the number of likes they've achieved, not so much to have a gratifying confirmation of their appearance, but to not look bad to other users. This causes a strong sense of anxiety, linked to the fact that "you can't" not post anything, because at that point it would mean being totally excluded from social life.
Finally, affecting the mental health of young smartphone addicts is the issue of sleep, which may seem collateral or irrelevant, but is instead a key factor in the onset of depression. 43% of teens sleep less than seven hours per night, a percentage that rises to 51% in the case of 18-year-olds. Looking at a cell phone before bed stimulates the brain and the blue light from the screen inhibits melatonin production, making it harder to fall asleep. Eighty percent of teens admit to using their cell phones during the night, and waking up specifically to check them, a phenomenon called vamping.
Sleepless, depressed and anxious, these millennials are the portrait of a generation that is not at fault. If Deleuze a few decades ago identified schizophrenia as the capitalist disease par excellence, depression is the disease of our time. There is no doubt that mental disorders are not a personal matter, but a collective one. Not only is depression rampant, but it has actually become tolerable: the system, instead of acknowledging its own dysfunctionality, places all the blame on the individual, without considering mental health an issue and a political responsibility.
Adolescents are among the first victims of this system: not only do they work continuously with their cell phones, in the literal sense of the word, consuming advertising, entering data that are processed by digital companies or being at the service of the sharing economy, but they pay a very high price in terms of mental health.
This does not mean that cell phones are to be demonized, on the contrary: as drug addiction teaches us, prohibition serves little or nothing. The solution could instead be to disconnect from the system, and recover human relationships, not only virtual ones. But this won't be possible until we stop holding people accountable for mental illness. And so, kids will only ever be asked "But will you put that cell phone away?", without ever once asking "How are you?".

The Latest: France sees drop in COVID-19 hospitalizations | National News
Tumblr media
PARIS — The number of coronavirus patients hospitalized in France dropped this weekend for this first time since September, after two weeks of new nationwide lockdown measures aimed at slowing surging infections and easing hospital strains.
The number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care also fell for the first time in six weeks, according to figures released Saturday night, though virus patients still occupy 96% of France’s standard ICU beds.
The number of weekly infections per 100,000 people in France has now been falling for 14 straight days, and some doctors say they’re starting to see signs of relief in over-stretched ICUs.
But it remains too early to say whether the one-day drop in hospital numbers means France has hit the peak in this second surge of the pandemic.
France has reported more virus infections than any European country and has had 44,246 virus-related deaths. The government imposed a nationwide partial lockdown starting Oct. 30 as the second surge hit and could start easing the measures Dec. 1 if the number of virus patients in hospitals shows consistent decline.

HERE’S WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING:
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Authorities in Sri Lanka say about 400 inmates from the country’s highly-congested prisons have tested positive for COVID-19 as infected cases are surging in the capital and its suburbs.
Twelve of the 400 are prison officers while the rest are inmates. The cases are detected from five prisons in different parts of the country.
Sri Lankan prisons are highly congested with more than 26,000 inmates crowded in facilities designed to hold about 10,000.
Sri Lanka has seen a fresh outbreak of the disease since last month when two clusters — one centered on a garment factory and other on the fish market — emerged in Colombo and its suburbs. Confirmed cases from just those two clusters have grown by Sunday to 13,079 people.
Sri Lanka’s total number of positive cases reached 16,582 on Sunday with 53 fatalities.

ANTWERP, Belgium — Many a three-star Michelin meal has been put into a takeout box and sent out on Deliveroo scooters, as renowned chefs in Belgium and elsewhere try to scrape through a second pandemic lockdown that is likely to threaten even the lucrative Christmas season.
Sergio Herman, who has run three-star, two-star and many other establishments that have wowed the Michelin powers and the most refined palates around the world, doesn’t really see any positives to come out of working amid the pandemic.
“Sometimes you feel that whatever you built up over the years is slipping like sand through your fingers. It gives you this kind of fear,” he told The Associated Press.
Across much of Europe, exclusive restaurants have lost the precious appeal of the luxury dining experience — from eating several inventive courses, to basking in sommelier tastings, to savoring the after-dinner sweet and having that little extra chat with the chef.
“All that cannot just be replaced by a box and a plastic tray. That is just impossible,” Herman said amid the whirl of his new restaurant, Le Pristine, in the Belgian port of Antwerp.

NEW DELHI — India has reported 41,100 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the country’s overall tally since the pandemic began to 8.79 million.
The Health Ministry on Sunday also reported 447 deaths in the same period, driving total fatalities to 129,635.
India is second in the world in total reported cases behind the U.S., but daily infections have been on the decline since the middle of September. There has been, however, a resurgence of infections in New Delhi, which has seen a renewed surge in recent weeks, recording more new cases than any other Indian state.
On Sunday, New Delhi registered 7,340 new coronavirus cases, including 96 deaths.
———
SEATTLE — Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has scheduled a news conference for Sunday morning as COVID-19 case numbers soar throughout the Pacific Northwest where he will reportedly detail new restrictions.
Inslee’s office said he would discuss actions to combat the crisis but offered no details. The Seattle Times reports that among Inslee’s announcements will be a ban on indoor service at restaurants and bars and significantly reduced capacity at grocery stores and retail shops.
The newspaper cited industry officials briefed by Inslee’s staff. The Democratic governor will also prohibit all indoor social gatherings. And Inslee will reportedly limit grocery stores and retailers to 25% occupancy.

HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut’s two U.S. senators were self-isolating Saturday after a member of Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont’s staff tested positive for COVID-19.
Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy each tweeted Saturday that they had not had close contact with the staffer but were taking the step out of an abundance of caution.
Lamont’s chief spokesperson, Max Reiss, identified himself as the senior staff member who had tested positive in a release posted to Twitter on Friday. Reiss wrote he wasn’t sure how or where he had contracted the virus.
Murphy tweeted Saturday that he had “attended an event yesterday with the Governor but was not in close contact with the staff member who tested positive. Out of an abundance of caution, though, I am isolating until I get tested and consult with the Office of Attending Physician Monday morning.”
Blumenthal tweeted Saturday afternoon that he had “just returned from being tested myself and am currently self-isolating.”
———
CARSON CITY, Nev. — Nevada has reported a record number of new confirmed cases of the coronavirus for the second day in a row amid warnings from Gov. Steve Sisolak that the state is at a “critical juncture.”
Sisolak implored residents to stay home and do what they can to protect themselves a day after he announced he had tested positive for COVID-19. Sisolak told reporters on Friday that he wasn’t feeling any symptoms and would enter a quarantine.
Nevada reported 2,269 new cases and 15 additional deaths on Saturday, topping the record of 1,857 new cases set Friday.
Sisolak warned Nevadans earlier in the week that if the state fails to slow the spread of the virus within two weeks, he will be forced to reimplement stricter measures.
———
NEW YORK — Students, parents and teachers are continuing to anxiously watch New York City’s coronavirus test results. The latest figures Saturday fell under the city’s threshold for shutting down school buildings, but the mayor warned that the city was at a “crucial” point in fighting the virus’ resurgence.
Mayor Bill de Blasio cautioned parents and teachers Friday to plan for a potential school shutdown as soon as Monday, saying the city could cross its deciding line — 3% of coronavirus tests citywide coming back positive over a seven-day period — over the weekend.
The rate stayed short of that on Saturday, at 2.47%, he said.
“But that could change,” the Democratic mayor tweeted, warning that the city was facing “a critical weekend” in combating the pandemic.
New York City has the United States’ largest public school system, with more than 1 million students. It became one of few big cities to reopen classrooms this fall after the pandemic forced schools online in the spring, though families had the option of continuing all-remote learning this fall.
About 280,000 students have attended in person, far fewer than the city originally expected.
———
ATHENS, Greece — Deaths from the coronavirus have topped 1,000 in Greece, and authorities say that over half occurred since Oct. 18.
The Greek government has decided to shut down elementary schools, kindergartens and day care centers for two weeks starting Monday. Children will be schooled at home, as is already happening with high school and university students.
Authorities have stepped up enforcement of a 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. curfew, including by making arrests.
Two foreign exchange students who hosted an after-hours party at their apartment in the northern city of Thessaloniki were arrested Friday and fined 3,000 euros ($3,550) each on the spot. The 24-year-old Palestinian man and 21-year-old woman from France received also suspended prison sentences of 2 years and two months on Saturday.
Their 15 party guests, all university students from western Europe, were fined 300 euros ($355) each but not arrested.
———
BALTIMORE — The number of people testing positive for the coronavirus has soared to a new daily high in the United States.
Data from Johns Hopkins University indicates the number of confirmed cases reached 184,514 on Friday, as the number of people infected continues to surge.
The Johns Hopkins data shows the seven-day rolling average for virus-related deaths reported daily in the U.S. rose over the past two weeks from about 828 on Oct. 30 to 1,047 on Friday, an increase of about 26%
The seven-day rolling positivity rate also rose over the past two weeks from 6.4 to 9.6, an increase of about 50%, even as the number of tests performed has grown.

© Sina Weibo Share Share Facebook Twitter Pinterest Whatsapp Mail Or https://www.archdaily.com/937579/a-closer-look-at-the-chinese-hospitals-built-to-control-the-covid-19-pandemic While an overwhelming majority of the world is still fighting against COVID-19, the economic and social situation in China has shown an beginning signs of return to a new normal way of life in the recent weeks. In another sign of good news, the Chinese government recently announced announced that the two hospitals in Wuhan that were built from ground up within 10 days would close on April 15th and the remaining 30 patients will be transferred to other hospitals in Wuhan to receive further treatment. Other regions of China have followed similar steps, also announcing the closure of temporary hospitals, showing a positive sign that the COVID-19 pandemic is finally being defeated where it first began. We've compiled a list with the temporary hospitals constructed in the first two months of 2020, designed specifically to treat patients with COVID-19 symptoms. In total, China constructed more than 30 temporary hospitals built across the country. The speed at which these medical facilities were built was achieved through the hard work of tens of thousands of people working around the clock.
Wuhan
Leishenshan Hospital / Central-South Architectural Design Institute Leishenshan Hospital is located near the Huangjia Lake, Jiangxia District, Wuhan. It was originally planned to add 1,500 beds and accommodate 2,000 medical staff in two separate buildings upon 75,000 square meters. Construction began on January 26, the first isolation ward was completed on February 1, and the hospital accepted the first patients and staff only one week later.
Tumblr media
Huoshenshan Hospital / CITIC General Institute of Architectural Design and Research The construction of Wuhan Caidian Huoshenshan Hospital started on January 23, and was coordinated by four contractor groups- China Construction Third Engineering Bureau, Wuhan Construction Engineering, Wuhan Municipal Construction Group, and Hanyang Municipal Construction Group. The hospital was quickly built because of its modular structure which provided a housing-like form for each unit. With a site area of 34,000 square meters, this hospital t can accommodate up to 1,000 patients. Huoshenshan Hospital was put into operation on February 2 and patients were officially admitted the following day

Temporary Hospitals / Hanyang Municipal Design Institute On February 3, Wuhan began constructing three temporary hospitals in Wuhan Hongshan Stadium, Wuhan Salon, and Wuhan International Convention and Exhibition Center. The following day, the city received positive news, that the surrounding areas would build eight additional temporary hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients. In total, these 11 temporary hospitals were used to treat patients who were battling pneumonia as a result of infected by Coronavirus in different areas of Wuhan.

According to government's standard, a temporary hospital needs be separated by partitions, each separate zone contains 50 beds, with one nurse station for every 250 beds. The entire area, split into two phases, is around 8,100 square meters and contains 200 beds for patients. Among them, the first phase of the project covers an area of 3,000 square meters, including a 1,300-square-meter outpatient building and a 1,700-square-meter isolation area, which provides an additional 45 beds. The second phase of the project is under rapid construction, which, upon completion, could provide additional 155 beds and become the largest-scale infectious disease ward in the area.

Shenzhen
The Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen Temporary Stay-in Observation Ward As the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen second stage project is under intensive construction, the first temporary stay-in observation ward specially for treatment of patients infected with COVID-19 in Shenzhen will soon be completed. Constructed with the idea to plan ahead before the crisis overwhelmed the healthcare system, the ward started construction on January 25th, and the first 30 beds had been put into use on February 7th. When the second stage construction of the hospital is finished, an additional 1,000 beds will be available. The overall capacity of the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen will be 2,600 beds, more than the total number of beds provided by Wuhan Leishenshan and Huoshenshan Hospital combined. 30 Modern Horror Movies For Your Spooking Pleasure (Updated for 2018)
Dearest Friends and Fellow Rainbow Seekers,
as you may know, I am rather obsessed with horror movies. Over my lifetime, I have submitted myself to thousands of hours of horror cinema, but such extended exposure has come at a cost. It is true that I sometimes lose sleep over the fear of grinning demons sitting at the foot of my bed, or perhaps finding the bloated corpse of a drowned girl crying in my closet. But dark thoughts, as such, are typical to those who willfully endure the macabre. As a horror fan, nothing is more terrifying—or more gratifying—than clammering your way through the black swamp of terrible movies in search of the diamonds in the rough.
I have done the work for you, dear reader. I have hunted through hundreds of faux haunts and I have identified those that are genuine. And if you’re willing, I would be honored to serve as your guide through this realm of dark cinema. A concise list lies below, consisting both of films widely recognized, and lesser-known cult classics. They are united only by their modernity and their overall awesomeness. This is a list of films to be watched by all fans of cinema. So I urge you, dear reader, to call your significant other (or the one you desire to be your significant other). Then, put on your favorite onesie, and get ready for spookiness!  Because the night is dark and full of terror—and you deserve to be spooked by those films most worthy of spooking!
The Babadook - 2014 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
This might be my favorite on the entire list, so I'm gonna stick it right here at the top. But really, if there's one movie on this list that you should watch, it's the Babadook. Sure, you might have to suspend your disbelief on a few occasions, but it's totally worth it. It seems so rare that horror movies transcend their linear plots into something deeper, but the Babadook succeeds to descend to wonderfully cerebral depths. Without spoiling too much, the plot centers around a mother, grieving the loss of her husband, and her ADHD trouble-child, who come across a creepy kids’ book. An emotional and psychological haunting ensues that dares viewers to venture into the realms of depression and mania.
Let the Right One In - 2008 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
I've been bored of Vampires since Harry Potter, but this little charmer bit me right in the jugular. The plot centers around a boy who befriends a young female vampire—and yes, for you vampire loving people out there, it does get kind of romancy (in that innocent kid way). Apart from the totally on-point acting, the film maintains an oddly delicate balance of emotional tenderness and intimacy to total blood-chugging brutality. It is easily the best vampire movie to date, and if Swedish subs aren't your thing, there's an American version, Let Me In, that is equally as good.
It Follows - 2015 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
With one of the most original plots I've ever experienced in a horror movie, It Follows is being touted as one of the best movies of 2015. It's a film best left to experience without outside influence, but I can say that this film will be well enjoyed by those who appreciate speculation, interpretation, and subplots involving the exchange of STDs. It follows tread along a straight forward plot, but contains a wonderful amount of depth to sift through afterward. The film also has top-notch acting and is beautifully shot (much of it shot in Detroit). Make sure you see it with a few friends so you can talk about it afterward!
The Orphanage - 2007 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
I love me a sad, creepy ghost story, and there's something even better about them when they involve dead children. Like many of the films on my list, The Orphanage, produced by Guillermo Del Toro, has just that. But in all seriousness, this film has a wonderfully emotional story that’s rarely found in the horror genre. It's a well-known classic amid fans of the horror genre, a film that masterfully builds writhing tension to evoke its scares.
Lake Mungo - 2008 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
Lake Mungo offers a long-winded but mature examination of loss and grief. Its presentation is almost dreamlike, with a plot that focuses on the horrors experienced by a family after the drowning of their daughter. Lake Mungo exceeds as a film in the way that it relentlessly builds upon a wrenching sense of dread. Made with a tiny budget, but supported by solid acting, this film is surprisingly believable and captures the vulnerability, isolation, and confusion experienced after the unexpected death of a loved one. Simply put, this movie is completely terrifying, yet contains almost no cheap scares. It's a 100% unrelenting, slow-roast dread that doesn't let up until well after the credits.
REC - 2007 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
The original REC is a deliberately fast-paced film that sandwiches its doomed characters between compounding layers of dread, resulting in of one of the best modern horror films in years. The pseudo-zombie plot derails right from the get-go, and later smashes into the supernatural for a terrifying climax. But the disgusting monster at the end? That takes the cake for one of nastiest creepers ever to make it into cinema.
The Curse (Noroi) - 2005 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
There is a goldmine of Eastern horror out there, and the Curse represents the genre as one of the best. It's a Japanese, low budget, faux documentary, that—amid scenes of complete ridiculousness—manages to be completely and dreadfully effective. Noroi presents an engrossing, slow-burn mystery that carefully leaks the details of an ancient demon-curse. If you're interested in venturing into classic eastern horror, definitely check this one out.
Kill List - 2011 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
In some ways, Kill List tries to be a deep character study (and I'd say for the first 45 minutes, this might hold true), but then it’s quickly upstaged by an eerie crime drama, which later transforms into a totally effed cult-terror-gore-fest. Somehow, it all seems to work together, leaving you with a disturbing, yet surprisingly thought-provoking mess to discuss with your friends. This is a film to be viewed with others, and I highly recommend it for those who love cults, mysteries, and gore.
28 Days Later - 2002 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
While I wanted to avoid the obvious choices for this list, I couldn't leave out 28 Days Later, because...Well, it's just too good to ignore. With fast zombies, sympathetic characters, and incredible production, Danny Boyle has created one of the best pieces of apocalyptic horror ever made. You’ve probably already seen it, so you might as well see it again.
The Descent - 2005 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
The Descent stars six women, all part of an extreme adventure club, who decide to explore the creepiest cave in the entire world. In this cave, of course, dwell terrible, fanged, amphibious slime creatures who have an affinity for jump scares and standing directly behind the backs of the characters...but the real horror of this movie is the cave. The movie absolutely excels in conveying intense desperation and suffocating claustrophobia. Despite solid reviews, I had low hopes for this movie, but ended up really enjoying it. Highly recommended.
Cabin in the Woods - 2012 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
Horror fans tout Cabin in the Woods as a modern classic. Is it particularly scary? No. But it does provide an ample serving of self-aware humor and cliche-bending twists. I don't care much for self-aware horror movies, but Cabin in the Woods does it right, offering one of the best works of pop culture entertainment that the horror genre has ever seen.
Suicide Club - 2002 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
With an opening scene of 50+ Japanese schoolgirls jumping in front of a train, I can confidently say that Suicide Club is one of the most hardcore horror movies of all time. The movie follows a wave of unexplained suicides and slowly pieces together a rather nebulous mystery. Answers, however, are few and far between, and I am still not sure if I actually like this movie. But for anyone who is looking for something a little bit darker, this is for you.
Battle Royale - 2000 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
Before the Hunger Games, there was Battle Royale, which happens to be set in a  similar dystopian universe, wrought with unemployment, crime, and malcontent. Each year, a randomly selected 9th grade class of Japanese, khaki-donning schoolchildren are outfitted with exploding shock collars and given an assortment of weapons. They are then forced to hunt each other down until there is only one left. Long story short, it's the hunger games with an R rating, and if I am not mistaken, this controversial child-massacre-gore fest was banned for a time. But for real, this movie rules, topping its big-budget, modern successor with tons of style, as well as a healthy dose of dark, humorous cynicism. If you felt that the Hunger Games didn’t have enough teen gore, then this movie is for you.
The Devil’s Backbone - 2001 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
A haunting allegory of the Spanish Civil War, Guillermo Del Toro's film presents a chilling school house ghost story that stands as a masterfully produced piece of cinema. It's heavily atmospheric, emotionally fraught, and above all else, spooky. This fable is one of Del Toro's best and is a must watch on this list.
Creep - 2015 [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
Laced in dry humor, Creep is another slow burner that masterfully builds upon a foundation of discomfort and creeping uneasiness that relies little on jump scares (although, it does not forgo them). The two fold script prompts some of the best acting on this list - and rumors state that much of it was improvised. Creep is proof that you don't need to have a big budget with CGI jump scares to make a compelling horror movie. Did I mention that it's available for Netflix streaming, too?
Gerald's Game (89% RT) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
The plot begins with a dude named Gerald, who, with his wife, depart to an ocean side cabin for a sexy-time retreat. Except their sexy time, in typical Stephen King fashion, goes horribly wrong. Next thing you know, Gerald is being eaten by a dog and she's handcuffed to the bed and then the boogieman starts to come out at night. Hopefully I didn't just ruin the movie for you, but for real, it gets really good - and the boogieman is one of the best horror spooks I've seen in a long time. The wife, Carla Gugino, gives nothing short of a stellar performance, too.
The Witch (91% RT) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
The Witch centers itself around a (Puritan?) family who is banished to the outskirts of the New England wilderness in the 1600s (where an ancient and foreboding evil lurks). Shortly after, the crops die, people get possessed, someone's nipple is eaten by a demon crow, and Satan appears as the family goat, named "Black Philip." Despite what I just said, the Witch bares little, but what it does reveal is absolutely brutal. But the real horror is not what hides in the woods, but rather the evil that makes its way inside of the characters. Overall, it's an exceptionally well made period piece that will marinade you in dread... and thus the Witch is one of my favorite horror movies of all time.
Under the Shadow (99%) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
Under the Shadow is an art house masterpiece that serves as one of the greatest horror movies ever made, yet it is mostly unknown outside of horror circles. The movie is about an Iranian mother and daughter, living in a bombed out Tehran in the middle of the Iran-Iraq war. Her Husband, a doctor, is drafted to serve at the war front and they are left behind when an undetonated missile comes crashing into their apartment building (followed by a superstitious neighbor spouting about how the missile brought with it a middle eastern demon, or Djinn). Things start to get creepy when random items being to go missing, the daughter's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, and the Mother is plagued by horrible nightmares. But most unnerving of all is the isolation and desperation of a mother and daughter trapped in urban chaos.
IT (86% RT) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
An ancient, child devouring evil lurks under the town of Derry, Maine, who manifests itself physically as the apex of one's fears. Over the centuries, It has developed a taste for children (whose fears are easier to conceptualize, apparently), and thus It's preferred manifestation is that of a google-eyed, drooling, and mildly pedaphilic clown named Pennywise. Without drenching this write-up with my slobbering love for this movie, please know that the director and actors absolutely nailed it. The book presents 1200+ pages of historical world building with time-jumping plot lines - and the movie does an amazing job portraying the phantasmagoric and fantastical, yet demon-beleaguered town of Derry. Director, Andres Muschietti and co. deserve every penny of the 300 million dollars it has grossed since release.
It Comes at Night (89% RT) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
It Comes at Night is a psychological slow-burner, relying on the fears of the unknown, of mistrust, and of post-apocalyptic desperation. The plot revolves around the plight of a family, isolated and hidden, in their forest home as an undefined and unnatural blight ravages the outside world. One day, another destitute family comes stumbling into their home, who are cautiously taken in. Paranoia and mistrust slowly begin to boil between the two families, awakening an evil greater than the zombie-esque disease they seek to hide from. It's an unnervingly fantastic film that will stick with you long after viewing.
Get Out (99%) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
You can't have a “best of horror” list without mentioning "Get Out." The plot, which involves a bi-racial couple making a visit to the girlfriend's (white) parent's house, is both sharp and nimble in its often satirical portrayal of racial tension. The over-the-top plot initially focuses on a particularly awkward form of racial envy, which quickly derails into something much more sadistic - all the while tinged with director Jordan Peele's trademark humor. It is a movie that gives hope to the genre and has absolutely cemented itself as one of the best horror flicks ever made.
Train the Busan (95%) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
A father and daughter find themselves fleeing through the countryside (via train) amidst a zombie apocalypse. It's predictable, gory, and over-the-top, but in our cinematic world, over-peppered with every kind of zombie flick conceivable, Train to Busan still explores nuances amidst its campy and relentless action. Simply put, "Train to Busan" is a well-made and exceptionally entertaining film that still offers a dose of originality from within its South Korean setting. Just try not to take it too seriously.
The Wailing (99%) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
In a quiet south Korean village, a strange visitor appears, and soon after people start violently killing each other. In a panicked desperation, the police consult the occult to aid in solving the mythical blight that threats to spread beyond the village's outskirts. The Wailing is best enjoyed without knowing too much, but this phantasmagoric and gritty film is a cemented gem of Korean horror. It has some flaws and is exceptionally long, but the exploration of creepy eastern cult-mythology makes it well worth the trek.
The Banshee Chapter (75% RT) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
A man goes missing after consuming some CIA branded psychedelic research chemicals - and his friend decides (with the help of a gonzo-inspired journalist) that she’s going to track him down.  They acquire the aforementioned chemicals and proceed to smoke them, which apparently allows an evil deity to invade their lives (this particular deity takes the spooky meter and sends it to level 10). The plot is, admittedly, pretty lame, but if you can embrace the campiness, you'll find the movie is legitimately terrifying. I was prepared for a b-movie cheese fest, but for real, this movie is exceptionally spooky.
Hell House (76%) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
A malfunction occurs in an Halloween attraction set on the site of a hotel with a nefarious past, causing the death of 15 people. A half decade later, a documentary crew decides to investigate the tragedy and end up acquiring some tapes of the incident. It's a bit cheesy, but the plot and the acting are pretty damn good for a straight-to-VOD, found footage B-movie. Most importantly, though, is that "Hell House" is extraordinary creepy; completely worth watching for the thrill of horror.
Hereditary (89% RT) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
Cemented by Toni Collette’s wonderful performance, Hereditary is easily the best horror movie of 2018. The movie presents one menacing sucker punch after another as it rips apart the ground beneath the security of home. Both devastating and anything-but-subtle, Hereditary is recommended to those who like ancient demons, candle lit seances, and the occult.
A Quiet Place (95% RT) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
A Quiet Place’s plot, both affecting and inventive, throbs with (at times) agonizing, hold-your-breath tension. At the core you will find a family of four, struggling to survive in a world inhabited by invasive, sound-sensitive creatures who would prefer the extinction of humans. John Krasinski serves as both director and acting lead, which is good news for those of us who could care less for the recent stream of superfluous action movies he’s been producing.
A Dark Song (91% RT) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
Brooding and methodical, A Dark Song is set-piece pagan horror at its finest. It features only two characters: A mother in mourning and an arrogant occultist whom she seeks the aid of. The duo lock themselves in an old mansion to enact a lengthy and risky ritual, one that (ideally) results in a wish being granted. The acting is both fantastic and believable as the characters, in typical horror movie fashion, make mistakes that send them into a descent of madness. It’s witchcraft-gone-wrong; a slow burner with the relentless dread and chaos of a waking nightmare. This is one of my all time favorite indie horror movies. Highly recommended.
1922 (89% RT) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
Unreliably narrated via the confession of a father who murders his wife (and who also ropes his hesitant son into the act), 1922 is a brooding tale of a man driven to madness by way of guilt. There are no jump scares to be found, as the movie favors the father’s slow-rot suffering and his futile and increasingly desperate attempts to bury his festering guilt. Psychological horror at its finest, this King adaptation is another excellent addition to Netflix’s diverse and original collection of horror movies. The Ritual (71%) [TRAILER]
Tumblr media
While imperfect at best, this B-movie, set in northern Sweden, provides an interesting set (creepy, frost-dusted hinterlands) inhabited by four bros and an imaginative monster who’d prefer they were hiking somewhere else. Ankles are sprained and tempers swell as the friends become increasingly lost amidst a forest of their misjudgment. This movie is the definition of “pretty decent” with enough substance to hopefully see you through to the “less than decent” finale.

Locations
Important locations in and around Grimswick. There are things not actually mentioned here, but this should cover most bases.
The Weird Street. The Weird Street is a small street of no more than sixteen houses, but it's location is significant for two reasons that are interconnected. The first being that it is over the heart of where the abomination is sealed, and where the draw for the weird is the strongest - it has never been the heart of the town, but it has always been there.
Important Buildings Grimswick Town Hall. The town hall is located at the center of the town, used for the administration of the local government. It is a large, wide building of a gothic design, trees lined up in front and a fountain in front with three sprays, and a statue of the town founder in front.
Grimswick Bank - Spotlight Banks. The bank, usually referred to only as the Bank but in actuality run by Spotlight Banks, is a modern building, with comfortable chairs and modern designs. All soft edges and light colours.
Grimswick Hospital. The hospital is a modern institution and has great hospital care, partly as it employs several witches as both nurses and doctors but also because it's lately received big donations. It consists of two buildings mixing the modern and the older architecture that define the town - in the center is an old wood building, akin to a huge cottage, where the witch doctors work, and a big building consisting of four pillars, kept together at every other floor with floors acting as walkways. The more modern buildings have both white walls and glass walls.
The Doctor’s Offices. Grimswick has but a handful of doctor’s offices, as most would opt to go to the actual hospital for treatment since it has been forced into being more affordable. Maidens Heart Clinic is one of them, run by three witch-sisters running it out of a cottage and mostly acting as midwives and being the go-to doctors office for those who put no faith in modern medicine. Pure Faith Clinic is a doctors office placed in a more modern building and run by a male witch who is masquerading as a faith healer in his attempts to get medical care to those who favor faith over medicine. Holiday Clinic and Sleepy Times Clinic are two modern and non-witchy doctor’s clinics located in gothic buildings on the opposite ends of the city, but they charge a bit more than Maidens Heart and Pure Faith to stay afloat. Golden Dreams Clinic, meanwhile, is an elite doctors office with equipment and employees rivaling the hospital - a clinic that started once the hospital was forced into being more affordable and is obscenely expensive while being favored by the rich due to their special treatment of those with money. It is located in an extremely modern building, with enough space to give the clients private rooms.
Grimswick Correctional Facility. The town's own prison, a maximum security prison. It is made of stone, and is uninviting and bleak, located just outside of town - just far enough so that the town can be alerted if a prisoner breaks out. The schedule for the prisoners are as following…
8:00 to 8:30 AM - Breakfast
9:00 to 11:30 AM - Rehabilitative Art Program
12:00 to 12:30 PM - Lunch
12:30 to 1:30 PM - "Free Play" in yard
2:00 to 5:30 PM - Rehabilitative License Plate Making
6:00 to 7:00 PM - Evening meal
7:00 to 9:00 PM - Free time
9:00 PM - Lights out
Grimswick Civic Center. A public building used to hold big events. It has a very modern design. From the outside, it seems rather small, but from the inside, it is much larger. The building's name is in bold letters standing out on the glass wall it is placed on, a large clock is fixed onto it above the entrance and it has large windows around the first floor as well as large windows at the other floors. Around the front are a few single walls for posters and news, line barriers, and lights that shoot into the sky. There is an announcement board on the building and a ticket stand standing right in the front center.
The Grimswick Rec Center. The Grimswick Rec Center has something for everyone and it isn’t just a rec center but also a community center, a hub of activity for generations coming together for health and social activities. The fitness floor has with state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment, three fitness classrooms, an indoor track, a 10,000 square feet aquatics area with 25 yard swimming lanes, a hot tub and several steam rooms, and a gymnasium. It has everything from climbing walls to a small café. It has a very modern design. From the outside, it seems rather small, but from the inside, it is much larger.
Grimswick Whispers. The building in which the Grimswick Whispers newspaper is made, an old gothic building with the silver name hanging on the side of the building. It is located near the center of the town.
Grimswick Cemetery. The only cemetery of Grimswick, located at an edge of the town rather than all that close to any of the churches. It has a gothic fence around it, a mausoleum, and it is large, spanning, and beautiful gravestones. It feels exceedingly ominous at all times of day.

Moonlight Hotel & Spa. A smaller hotel located in a gothic building, most of its size has gone to the spa to which it’s guests have free access. Has notably cozy rooms for a hotel.

Prism Motel. A modern motel that is likely the first hotel one sees upon entering Grimswick due to being right by the highway. Somewhat rundown, but serves a bed and breakfast and is rather secure.
Liberty Motel. Originally built by a serial killer as a lure, now it is more known for having various secret compartments and passages. And the serial killers ghost. The cheapest motel to rent a room at for a very good reason.
Nostalgia Motel. A motel that is more or less stuck in the 50s with it’s decor and it’s employees fashion senses and speech, it is quite cozy if a bit run down.

Founded not too long ago for a culture where magic mainly have been taught to family by family, Marble Hills University for Magical Arts was founded as a way for young witches to study the more theoretical aspects of magic and nurture scholars of magic. While it is a relatively young university, it is shockingly well-organized and these days it counts as a very prestigious college for all that it carters to magic, far out staging similar schools that has sprung up due to its immense success. While Marble Hills began as a purely theoretical college, with only a few courses focusing on Ethics, Magical Medicine, and Magical Sciences, it has since expanded so that those who study at Marble Hills may expand their magical repertoire and skills, though still too advanced for someone to start learning magic at the college. Anaconda, Andrew Bogut, and Animals: aliyah e Id 50129, 4 Yrs., 45 lbs of Gentle Manhattan ACC INTAKE DATE: 01-02-2019 “I was returned after only 2 weeks because my new family’s dog attacked me and hurt me. She told my parents it was me or her, and they chose her.” ☹ Timid little house mouse Aaliyah is so gentle, loving and sweet, and she has found herself at the least comforting place in NYC – the Manhattan Care Center. Her beautiful almond eyes show her confusion and angst, but the volunteers comfort her, hold her close, and let her know that they will try very hard to find her a new family to love. During her stay she has made friends, and she adores spending time in the play yard with them, carefree and chasing tennis balls with glee. Aaliyah looks nothing so much as a young deer, delicate of features, small in stature, and hoping with all her gentle heart that the volunteers are right, and her dream of a home for the holidays will come true. All this girl needs is a quiet, calm, loving home with a routine she can count on. She is a good girl, with a loving heart. Hurry and Message or page or email us at [email protected] for assistance fostering or adopting Aaliyah now. A volunteer writes: “She has an endearing face that begs for a walk and company and this is why I picked Aaliyah as my first date of the day at the care center. Aaliyah is a shy little gal, a bit lost but who here and there reveals that she might have a happy and playful personality. The sight of a ball sends her running and jumping, even catching the object at times. She comes briefly on the bench, gives a furtive kiss to her caretaker, takes a treat that she spits out or go to the gate, wagging her tail at a handsome male seeking her company. And then, she is her timid mouse, again, waiting for her mind to warm up some more and bloom into the likely sweet and social dog she really is. Come and meet Aaliyah at the Manhattan Care Center and help her find again her livelihood!” MY VIDEOS: Adrian aka Aaliyah - the lovliest little lady https://youtu.be/YhrkQxZza0M Adrian aka Aaliyah and Beignet https://youtu.be/J44SybgMc3Q Rigby and Aaliyah in playgroup https://youtu.be/fk8vvmdnH0Q AALIYAH aka ADRIAN, ID# 50129, @ 4 Yrs. Level 2 Dogs with Level 2 determinations will be suitable for adopters with some previous dog experience. They will have displayed behavior in the shelter (or have owner reported behavior) that requires some training, or is simply not suitable for an adopter with minimal experience. Dogs with a Level 2 determination may have multiple potential challenges and these may be presenting at differing levels of intensity, so careful consideration of the behavior notes will be required for counselling. Potential challenges at Level 2 include no young children, single pet home, resource guarding, on-leash reactivity, mouthiness, fear with potential for escalation, impulse control/arousal, anxiety and separation anxiety. Level 3 Dogs with Level 3 determinations will need to go to homes with experienced adopters, and the ACC strongly suggest that the adopter have prior experience with the challenges described and/or an understanding of the challenge and how to manage it safely in a home environment. In many cases, a trainer will be needed to manage and work on the behaviors safely in a home environment. It is likely that every dog with a Level 3 determination will have a behavior modification or training plan available to them from the behavior department that will go home with the adopters and be made available to the New Hope Partners for their fosters and adopters. Some of the challenges seen at Level 3 are also seen at Level 1 and Level 2, but when seen alongside a Level 3 determination can be assumed to be more severe. The potential challenges for Level 3 determinations include adult only home (no children under the age of 13), single pet home, resource guarding, on-leash reactivity with potential for redirection, mouthiness with pressure, potential escalation to threatening behavior, impulse control, arousal, anxiety, separation anxiety, bite history (human), bite history (dog) and bite history (other). New Hope Rescue Only Dog is not publicly adoptable. Prospective fosters or adopters need to fill out applications with New Hope Partner Rescues to save this dog.

Below is the day-by-day calendar of “theater openings”* in September, 2020, as we enter the sixth month of winging it online — and experimenting back offline. This month will see Brian Cox as George Bernard Shaw, Harriet Harris as Eleanor Roosevelt and Damian Lewis as Oedipus the King, as well as the return of Broadway’s Boys in the Band. The Apple Family cast gets a third go-round, and there are “reunion readings” with the original Off-Broadway casts of “Hamlet in Bed” (including Annette O’Toole and John Glover) and of last year’s “Sugar in Our Wounds.” The Met offers for free its new production of “Porgy and Bess” with such Heavenly tunes as “Summertime,” just as this unsettling summer’s coming to an end, and we can try to settle in for what would normally be the beginning of the new theater season.
September offerings are not just on screens (though they’re not on conventional stages either.). A new company will  launch six original plays that  we can call epistolary  — the audience gets involved in the letter-writing (see September 21). There is a decadent walking tour play of Greenwich Village (see September 30.).
Several ongoing series have been consistent in quality and output, several of them newly created during the pandemic.
Play-PerView (See September 12, 19 and 26) Livelabs: One Acts from MCC (which will reportedly resume in September, but has yet to make any announcements.) Viral Monologues from 24 Hour Plays (some 10 short new monologues almost every Tuesday) Playing on Air,  which has offered original audio plays with starry casts since 2012, has announced no new plays this month, but they keep their old ones on their site.
There is a promising new series this month from Urban Stages, which is putting its September Fest online on Wednesdays in plays that deal head-on with a contentious America (See September 2, 9, 16 and 23.) Every Wednesday this month (and on into October), the Chicago-based International Voices Project, will present translated plays from around the world, this year for the first time virtually (which means you don’t have to be in Chicago to “attend.”).
Stars in the House, Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley’s daily variety and talk show since the pandemic began, fairly reliably presents Plays in the House — Zoom readings of well-known plays, often classics — on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons…and a Sunday matinee for teenagers.
And these shows are just what we know about. Since physical theaters were shut down in March, many shows are put together at the last minute, sometimes not even announced until the very day of their launch. (And there have been last-minute cancellations too.) Even the reliable Metropolitan Opera only announces its free online offerings for a week at a time. That’s why  I will be updating this preview guide every day, and highlighting the offerings each new day with a new link up top. This calendar as of this moment offers a glimpse of what’s in store. Come back day by day for a better look. (Some of the plays listed do require advance reservation.)
A reminder that this calendar lists when the shows “open.” Some are live and available only for that one performance. Other shows are available for four days, or a week, or longer.
*My definition of theater for the purposes of this calendar generally does not extend to variety shows, cast reunions, galas, panel discussions, documentaries, classes, or interviews — of which there are plenty, many worth checking out. My focus here is on creative storytelling in performance. (I make an occasional exception for a high-profile Netathon, involving many theater artists.)

RT-PCR no longer mandatory for Davao-bound passengers
#PHnews: RT-PCR no longer mandatory for Davao-bound passengers
DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Z. Duterte said Wednesday the requirement for reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) swab test results for Davao-bound air travelers are no longer mandatory. Instead, Mayor Sara said RT-PCR testing results will be done upon exit at the Davao International Airport (DIA). Earlier, Davao-bound passengers were advised to submit a negative RT-PCR taken 24-72 hours before their departure date upon check-in at any airport of origin. The city government required a negative RT-PCR after the data from the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) showed that the highest confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in this city consisted of travelers from Manila. “After so much discussion during the meeting with the National Task Force (NTF) and Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) we agreed to make the RT-PCR requirement mandatory upon exit at DIA. It will no longer be mandatory for check-in, it is permissive,” Duterte explained in a radio interview. She added that the testing done in the city is free of charge. However, Mayor Sara clarified that the passengers can still get their RT-PCR negative results within 24-72 hours of their departure date. “If they want hassle-free travel they can secure it and they can go out at the airport and do their quarantine at home. For those who don’t have the RT-PCR, we test them without exception. They should be prepared to wait at least 24 hours for their results to be released,” she explained. Meanwhile, a holding area for arriving passengers at DIA has been established by the city government here. Angel Sumagaysay, head of the Public Security and Safety Command Center (PCC), said the holding area is for arriving passengers whose negative RT-PCR test result has lapsed the 72-hour requirement or failed to get tested at all. “We prepared this for those passengers arriving in Davao City without negative Covid-19 test. They will undergo RT-PCR testing and they will stay at the holding area while waiting for their results,” Sumagaysay said. Sumagaysay said the holding area can cater to up to 50 people and is equipped with folding beds and mattresses for passengers waiting for their test results. The airport holding area is only one of five holding areas arranged by the city government for arriving passengers. Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, City Health Officer (CHO) chief, said arriving passengers for RT-PCR swabbing will need to temporarily stay in the isolation area in order not to expose their families if they turn out positive. Duterte assured that the city government will still impose strict health protocols at the holding facility such as safe physical distancing to reduce the chances of Covid-19 transmission. (PNA)

The Latest: France sees drop in COVID-19 hospitalizations | World News

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE VIRUS OUTBREAK:
— Second round of lockdowns brings misery for Europe’s Michelin-rated chefs
— President-elect Joe Biden faces tough choice of whether to back virus lockdowns
— Mexico reaches 1 million virus cases, nears 100,000 deaths
— French doctors use their experience t o improve treatments for COVID-19 patients

———
