Damage Done
prompt: The Winter Soldier is activated and Bucky's lover is unlucky enough to be in proximity.
pairing: Bucky Barnes x female!Widow!reader
fandom masterlist: Marvel
word count: 5.4k+
note: oh, wow, Cherry wrote Bucky NOT in a Mafia AU?
warnings: takes place during Civil War, absolutely no plot - author just doesn't know how to shut the fuck up. cursing, violence, small angst, injury, blood, hurt and comfort, Winter Soldier antics, choking, abrupt ending, maybe domestic violence? it's the WS.
it's really not that bad, it's not terribly descriptive but still tread carefully if triggered by these topics.

"Keep them together," Agent Everett Ross commanded, a little man with a raging Napoleon Complex, gesturing at you and Bucky; the latter held in mobile, restrictive captivity. "He doesn't play nice if he doesn't see her, or so it's said," his eyes rolled.
"You're making a huge mistake!" You barked, struggling in the restraints they had you wrapped in.
"No, I don't think so," he sneered, approaching you as Bucky's unit kept moving. "I think the mistake was letting you out of anyone's sight. Tell me, how long have you been in cahoots with the Winter Soldier?"
"He's not the Winter Soldier anymore, you jackass, he's a person! A real, live human being! His name's James but he prefers Bucky! He likes plums," you were yanked away, still snarling, "his favorite color is blue, likes motorcycles, he has real guilt over his past transgressions, and you've got the wrong guy!"
"Oh, right, like you're the best judge of character," Ross laughed.
"Natasha! Nat! Fucking tell him!" You pleaded, struggling in the hold of the men who kept iron clad restraint on you and were starting to drag you away. "You've got the wrong guy! Bucky didn't do this! I wouldn't lie - not to you, Natasha! Tell him!"
"That's touching, really sweet," Ross mocked, rolling his eyes as you were finally overpowered and lead away.
"Hang on a second," Nat muttered, sharing a look with Tony. "Was her DNA or facial recognition anywhere at the UN? Anywhere near where the bomb was set off?"
"What's that matter - "
"Since they met, they've not parted ways," Nat spelled out. "He won't go anywhere without her - you, yourself, are keeping them together for interrogation - "
"It's just easier," Ross scoffed.
"No, you know..." She blinked in confusion, "You know, Bucky won't talk unless she's there - you know he'll be ten times as difficult if she's not in the room."
"So?"
"So, in the past two years, have you heard about him without her? Have you seen her without him?"
"Nobody's seen or heard from either of them," Ross shook his head.
"Exactly," she nodded, lungs tightening with nerves. "If you can't find evidence of her being in Vienna... Bucky might not be your guy... Besides, they're both trained to avoid cameras - "
"Mistakes are made," Ross waved off.
"Not by two highly trained assassins like them," she snapped. "Check the files, go back - look! Actually look, run her scans through facial recognition - if you don't find her, it wasn't Bucky."
"You're so sure?" Tony asked skeptically.
"I know her," Natasha nodded, "better than anyone. She's as good as my sister, she's as good as blood. I know her. I know she wouldn't run this risk - "
"Then you also know she wouldn't get caught," Ross laughed.
"Neither would Bucky."
The silence stretched, but Ross was stubborn; sneering at the Avengers and taking his leave with his own plan of action in mind. He left Tony and Natasha to deal with Sam and Steve as he went to observe the interrogation. When he got before the monitors, he watched as it took four different men to restrain you enough to hoist your locks up the wall until they were clicked in place by ultra-strength magnets.
You jostled, feeling the full extent of your containment, grunting when the pipe you were connected to shocked your entire system into submission. Everett Ross smirked at your pain; watching your tongue swipe over your teeth, arms high above your head, readjusting your weight in your feet, but otherwise, not moving.
Ross heard Bucky ask quietly, his eyes watching you carefully from inside the reinforced cell, "You okay, doll?"
"Looks like they learned from last time," you grit, the cuffs around your wrists electrified; charring your skin, making you grimace slightly in a veiled attempt to hide your pain from your lover.
"Don't fight, you'll make it worse," he advised softly, frowning, eyes glassy from restrained emotion.
"They could've at least put me in a bit more comfortable position," you sneered, glaring up at one of the cameras, shaking your head as if in disappointment.
"I don't think they want to play nice, sweetheart."
"Yeah, could've guessed that from when they arrested us," you shook your head, puckering your lips to gather the blood in your mouth; spitting it to the floor. "You good, baby?" You asked as the men who restrained you moved to plug in the power cell caging Bucky.
He nodded silently at you, bowing his head and letting his long locks curtain his face. You frowned, shifting again as you blindly felt your cuffs and designed a way to get free; watching the men stoically as they exited the room to make way for the psychologist. Your jaw clenched, the air smelling foul - alerting you that something wasn't quite right.
"Hello, Mr. Barnes," the accented man greeted casually, standing at a single table in front of Bucky, you off to the side; chains rattling as your defenses flared. The psychologist smirked and greeted you, too, assuring your real identity was known - something that Natasha released to the world about two years ago when HYDRA sent Bucky after Cap in DC. You didn't fault her, in fact, you respected her move, and after getting out of the blown-to-shit base, you had run into the Winter Soldier... Beginning your epic love story, both of you on the run from authorities and higher powers.
You smuggled Bucky out of the country, using fake aliases that had yet to see the light of day and therefor, wasn't released in the files Nat published during her takedown of the compromised S.H.I.E.L.D. agency. He was appreciative, pondering how he was meant to go forward in a world he didn't know; so, you agreed to stick around for a bit to help settle him, and that bit turned into a couple of years - the two of you inseparable.
There was an incident in London that almost exposed you, but instead, it just shined a light on your new partnership. Captain American, Nat, Sam, shit - even Tony Stark himself was unable to catch up; your trail going cold, Nat knowing your Widow training was running the show and keeping you safe. Granted, she probably could've unraveled the web you had weaved - but the truth was, she didn't want to. So, she kept quiet. Leading you all here...
"I've been sent by the United Nations to evaluate you both," the man you'd come to know as Helmut Zemo continued; playing his part very well, but not well enough to convince you of his innocence. Something about the man rubbed you the wrong way. "Do you mind if I sit?" He asked politely, feigning like you two had a choice. When he did, Zemo continued, "Your first name is James?"
He noted the way Bucky and you shared a look, both remaining silent. Zemo tried to assure, "I'm not here to judge you - either of you. I just want to ask you a few questions. Do you know where you are, James?" Continued silence, your head subtly shaking - an act only Bucky clocked. "I can't help you if you don't talk to me, James."
"My name is Bucky," he croaked, your sigh echoing around the room.
"Hm," Zemo nodded, "I take it, she doesn't want you to talk?"
"She wants me safe," Bucky answered stiffly.
"That is admirable," the psychologist offered kindly, "a great display of love, is it not?"
"Jesus Christ," you shook your head, offering a glare, "you went through all that schooling to ask stupid fucking questions? Might wanna get your money back."
Zemo chuckled after humming, "I am merely trying to establish the connection you two share. I hear it is rare to find one without the other, that you two have become, uh, joined at the hip?"
"I protect her," Bucky offered, sharing a long look with you, "and she protects me."
"An equal partnership, would you say?"
"Yes."
"Buck," you warned, wrists twisting to hold the cuffs; being zapped, making your jaw clench and the veins in your neck to bulge.
"It's all right," his voice sounded like it was being put through a grater. "We're caught, doll, it's all right."
You huffed, eyeing Zemo as his eyes flickered between you two. He nodded, making a note in his little book, "I was warned that you would be unwilling to cooperate without her present. Why is that?"
"She keeps me safe."
Zemo hummed, "So you've said, and yet... Here you both are..." You were ready to lash out, but the doctor changed course, "Tell me, Bucky. You've seen a great deal, haven't you?"
"I don't wanna talk about it." Your restraints zapped you again when you jolted forward as if to physically silence Zemo, Bucky's head snapping over and his eyes drooping in sympathy. "Told you not to move, it'll only get worse," he told you softly.
"He's asking questions that will get him killed," you snarled, gritting your teeth as the electric currents seized most of your energy. But it was worth it, finding a little weak spot and letting your mind devise a specific plan.
"You fear," Zemo continued, "that if you open your mouth, the horrors might never stop. I feel it is safe to assume, uh, your lady is privy to your past experiences? Perhaps, you two have shared a couple?"
"Just leave her out of this," Bucky pleaded.
"Don't worry," he assured you both, tapping something on his tablet before looking back at Bucky with a sick recognition. "We only have to talk about one. One mission... That I know you," he nodded at you, "were not present for."
"Kinda game you playin', Doc?" You sneered. "Think anything he says will change my opinion about him?"
"No, no, I know your relationship is too strong for that," Zemo smiled. "So, it's not so much what he will say... But what he will do..."
"The fuck does that - "
But then, the lights went out; darkening the room save for the lights individual to Bucky's holding cell. You perked up, the electric currents halting as the cuffs died with the power and gave you an opportunity to begin working on your escape. As red panic lights flickered, Bucky questioned, "What the hell is this?"
"Why don't we discuss your home?" Zemo offered. "Not Romania. Certainly not Brooklyn, no," he reached into his satchel, revealing a red notebook the world thought long lost... Buried in snow... Forgotten in time. "I mean, your real home," Zemo removed his glasses as you frantically started working.
"No, no, no, no, no, hey, hey, hey, don't - fuck!" You grit, trying harder to free yourself. "Bucky - Bucky, don't listen - ah, Goddamnit!"
The man you now understood to be a fake psychologist stood with a little flashlight, opening the red notebook, and began repeating words in Russian that would activate the decommissioned Winter Soldier. Bucky had told you all about these words, begging you to provide a shield against them should they ever be uttered again; but you had prior knowledge, the Winter Soldier someone you had been debriefed on during your time with other secret agencies.
"Longing."
"No," Bucky whispered, head tilting back in panic as he felt his stomach curl in a familiar pattern.
"Bucky - don't fucking listen, please!" You begged, still working to free yourself.
"Rusted."
"Stop," Bucky pleaded, sounding in pain.
"Don't do this!" You pleaded to Zemo. "You're fucking hurting him, please, stop!"
"Seventeen."
"Stop!" Bucky barked, his vibranium hand clenching in anger and pain; the entire arm whirring from the flex of his muscle. He began to pant, a deep growl emitting above your panicked whimpers.
"Daybreak!"
"You have no idea what you're doing!" You raged, Bucky screaming in pain as his mind was forcibly sunk back into dark recesses of his past. "Don't - Bucky, baby, listen to me - don't fucking listen to him, please, please, baby, don't do this!"
He screamed, breaking free of the iron restraints that kept him seated in the reinforced, mobile cell. "Furnace!" Zemo continued, ignoring the pain and panic you and Bucky were both thrown into.
"Fucking stop, please! You don't understand!" You begged, freeing one hand and working in vain to unlatch the other. Bucky was out of his seat, anger coursing like a palpable rain over you all - him screaming as his metal arm worked to pound into the strengthened glass surrounding him.
"Nine!"
"Bucky, please, baby, please, don't do this!" You tried a new tactic, hoping you were enough to cut through the brainwashing - but how silly to imagine. Decades of trauma was washing over Bucky again and your little words couldn't cut through the barricades of his mind.
"Benign!"
"You stupid fucking little man!"
Zemo rounded around the cell, Bucky still pounding away at the glass. "Homecoming! One!"
"DON'T!"
"Freight car!"
You whimpered in fear when Bucky punched the entire door off the hinges, freeing him at last; but the words were spoken, the damage done. He crouched on the floor, Zemo pausing to take in the sight, slowly approaching Bucky as he stood upright; the jangling of your chains louder and more frantic as you tried to free your last wrist.
"Jesus Christ," you whispered, trying to divide focus between the two tasks of freeing yourself and protecting Bucky - but being terribly unsuccessful as you watched Zemo stand in front of your dead-eyed boyfriend.
What a ridiculous, mundane label to assign someone like Bucky.
In Russian, Zemo questioned, "Soldier?"
And in Russian, the man you loved answered, "Ready to comply."
Zemo demanded in English, "Mission report. December 16, 1991."
You whimpered in fear, listening to Bucky give the report that would haunt you for years to come. Just as he finished, you managed to get out of the cuffs, but the clanging of your freed restraints caught Zemo's attention - who smirked with abundant cruelty. "Don't," you warned, backing out of the room just as officers began to flood it.
It was a brutal fight, trying to stave off Bucky once in his Winter Soldier mindset. You grunted as he engaged you, men dead at your feet - the lucky ones just knocked out. You grit your teeth, trying to defend yourself as Bucky operated mechanically; doing what you could to protect yourself, but it wasn't enough.
Blows landed, punching and kicking one another in an equal match of strength and stamina.
"Seize her," Zemo demanded, and in the next moment, Bucky had you by the neck; an effort that made you wheeze and claw at his bionic hand.
"Bucky," you begged. "Baby - baby - it's me, it's me, please, don't, it's me! Don't do this, baby, please, come back to me. Come back!" You struggled in his grip, trying to pry his hand open, "Baby, please, please, come back to me," spit drooled from your lips as he squeezed tighter. "This isn't you!" You managed to squeeze out, tears surfacing. "Not anymore, don't let them win!"
"Shut her up, Solider," Zemo commanded in Russian, your eyes widening and trying to beg Bucky again before he was sending you into a wall. He marched up to you, grabbing your hair, and surging his balled up metal fist directly into the bridge of your nose, breaking it, head jolting backwards, and effectively knocking you out.
When you came back into consciousness, it was to Steve's worried face; his hands caressing your cheeks and begging, "You all right?"
"Fucking hell," you winced, reaching up to prod the tender spot on your head; revealing blood.
"Got your ass kicked, huh?" He frowned.
"Watch your language, Cap," you smirked, wincing when your face throbbed. "Shit, how bad is it?"
He looked you over, offering, "Definitely a broken nose."
"Goddamnit - where is he? Where's Bucky?"
"Help me," a voice pleaded from the next room, Zemo playing his part by splaying out on the floor like bait.
"Don't trust him, something ain't right about him, Steve," you whispered, waving him on as you sluggishly hoisted yourself up the wall to lean against it. "Kept asking about Siberia, asking about shit nobody should actually know."
"Get yourself safe," Steve told you swiftly, nodding at Sam; who was checking on the status of the other bodies around you.
"Just find him, Steve, he's lost in his own mind - a threat to himself," you panted, slowly standing.
"I know - "
"You don't know," you shook your head, wiping a trickle of blood from your temple, "but you're gonna have to do more than understand him right now, Steve."
"I've got this," he promised, watching you nod and limp away. You had just missed the action, Bucky overpowering both Sam and Steve; getting to a safety landing and running into Natasha, Tony, and Agent Sharon Carter.
"We'll hash our bullshit out later," you panted, "but for now - "
You heard a commotion behind you, flinching out of sight when Bucky made himself known and began taking down rogue agents unlucky enough to stand before the Winter Soldier.
"He have an off switch?" Nat asked.
"Not that I've found," you frowned. "Split up."
Tony tried to engage Bucky first, using a mobile Iron Man device he wore on his wrist that used sonics to disorient Bucky. It only worked to a small extent, the two exchanging a few blows, Bucky firing a bullet at Tony's face at pointblank range that was saved by his technologically advanced glasses. Bucky got the upper hand, sending Tony flying back, letting Sharon and Nat attack.
He disposed of them both easily, stumbling when you caught him off guard and wrapped your legs around him. Normally, you'd do anything to have your legs around him - but this wasn't one of those times. You exchanged several punches, blocking one another, going for disarming hits but being of equal challenge; leaving small cuts and blooming bruises on each other as if to prove the engagement. Natasha rejoined the fight, two Widows showing Bucky up on a few instances, but he was heaving her across the room as you swung onto his shoulders in an impressive acrobatic move.
You heaved your fists down in a repeated fashion on the top of his head, Bucky charging at one of the cafe tables; slamming you down and choking you again with his metal hand. Both your hands held his, legs up around his neck to try to keep him at a distance for relief on your windpipe.
Through a strangled breath, you managed, "You could at least recognize me!"
"Who said I don't?" He growled, reaching out to snap a piece of wood from a chair.
You tried to regain normal breath, wheezing, "This isn't you, baby, you are not this person anymore - you're not a psychotic, robot killer! You're a man - please!"
"You don't know a damn thing about me," he seethed.
"I know everything about you," you strangled, "and I know this isn't you. Come back to me, baby, please! Y-You can't let the demons win, Buck, please - fucking listen to me!" But he only raised the wooden shaft above his head. "BUCKY, DON'T!"
"Who the hell is Bucky?"
You cried out shrilly when he jabbed the sharp wood into your shoulder, staking you to the table just as King T'Challa rushed onto the scene and stole your brainwashed boyfriend's attention. You hissed in pain, trying to yank the wood free but being unsuccessful; resulting in blood to splatter onto the tiled floor.
Hearing someone pant your name, you caught a glimpse of red and knew it was Nat, her face worried over yours a moment later. "Where's Bucky?" You coughed and winced in pain.
"Goin' up by the looks of it," she informed, "now hang on, this is gonna hurt. Want a belt to bite?"
"No, just do it, get it done, please," you panted, bracing yourself, and suddenly, without warning, your companion heaved the piercing shaft free from your flesh. Naturally, you cried out, groaning and clenching your jaw so tight, it nearly crushed your teeth into dust.
"Hey, you seen..." Sam arrived on scene, taking in your injury, "Holy shit, you good?"
"Yeah," you grunted, stumbling to your feet as blood bloomed into a bigger, brighter blemish on your tactical shirt. "We gotta go, Sam, we should get outta here."
"Hang on," Nat paused you two, your opposite hand holding your wound; her hands occupied by a smart device, "looks like Bucky tried to highjack a helicopter. Steve stopped him, but it resulted in them all crashing in the river."
"Shit," Sam breathed. "We gotta go find them."
"We need to get outta here, you know, away from the cops and agents," your head shook. "Get somewhere safe, away from this catastrophe. We'll regroup with Steve."
"Go," Nat permitted, "I won't say a word."
"You're one of a kind, Nat," you praised, pecking her cheek. "Let's go, Sam. And grab that First Aid kit," you pointed to the wall where the white box was mounted. He agreed and you lead the way out of the facility.
Tumblr media
Bucky groaned as he woke up, head lulling back before realizing he couldn't move his metal arm; finding it clamped in industrial weights. Sam called you both to attention, but while Steve jogged over, you remained in your place out of sheer distress.
You only vaguely listened to the conversation, hands trembling as your shoulder was bandaged to prevent further injury or infection. You did what you could to patch up any injury, and when you heard your name, you dialed in; Bucky asking, "Where is she? Is she okay?"
"You don't remember?" Sam sneered.
"No..."
"You stabbed her," the Falcon growled.
"What? N-No, I-I-I couldn't've - I wouldn't!"
"You did," Steve confirmed, pity coloring his words. "Punched her out pretty well, choked her, too. Broke her nose..."
"Please - Steve, please, tell me I didn't."
"I'm sorry, Buck."
"That why she's not here? She's in a hospital?"
"Actually, no," Sam trailed, "she's just in the other room."
"She didn't want to come here?"
Steve sighed as Sam informed, "Don't think she wants to see you right now, man."
"I didn't mean to hurt her."
"We know," Steve swiftly promised, nodding his head. "She knows it, too, you just have to give her some time."
Bucky looked utterly defeated, murmuring, "I scared her. Oh, my God, I scared her..."
"Gotta agree with you there."
"Sam," Steve reprimanded. "Look, Buck, she'll come around."
You waited until the two men left Bucky alone to regroup and stratify a new course of action. Slowly and almost sheepishly, you entered where Bucky was being kept, steps silent but he heard you anyways. His blue eyes flashed in concern as he met your gaze, mouth opening and closing as if words failed him.
"Doll," he finally breathed, "a-are you all right?"
"I'm okay."
"Don't bullshit me, how hard did I hit you? Steve said I broke your nose, I-I'm so sorry, doll, please believe me. What'd I do to your shoulder? Is that where I stabbed you?"
"Buck," you sighed, slowly squatting in front of him, "I need you to take a breath and know that I understand you were not in your right state of mind. You were forcibly triggered and sent back into that way of thinking, I know it wasn't you."
"I still hurt you, I still did it."
"Did you, though?" Your head cocked, eyes narrowing slightly, "Because I know my Bucky wouldn't hurt me, would never dare lay a hand on me - but the Winter Solider is a different story. You didn't do this, Buck, you weren't you."
"I can smell the fear on you."
"Well, yeah, it fuckin' scared me. I tried to stop that fake doctor, I tried to help, tried to save you and keep your safe. I'm sorry I was too slow, that I failed."
"You didn't fail anything, sweetheart... I-I failed you, I broke my promise to never hurt you."
"No, you didn't. The Winter Solider did all that, not my Bucky."
He frowned, repeating to ask softly, "Your Bucky?"
"My Bucky - the kind, charismatic, impossibly stubborn, kind hearted man I've loved the past couple of years who always gives me the crispiest fries, who has nightmares, who loves me unconditionally despite what I, too, have done in my past. And you know what I was doing out there while Sam and Steve talked to you?"
"What's that, doll?"
"Understanding that loving someone means loving their flaws, accepting them exactly as they are. So, while, yes, the Winter Solider scares the fuck outta me, he's still part of you and I can't authentically love you if I reject the Soldier."
His head shook "Your kindness is wasted on me."
"I think you should let me decide what's a waste and what's not when it comes to my own energy and emotion."
"I'm just gonna end up hurting you again. You're better off without me, baby, you and I both know you're better off keeping your distance. You should get out now while you still can."
"Not gonna happen. 'Cause you know what else I realized?" You reached up to caress his cheek, "I trust you beyond reasonable doubt, I trust you even if I'm afraid of the Winter Solider. I should've been faster, I should've helped you more, but I was powerless against that red notebook."
"You and I, both..."
You pet the cheek you were holding. "Buck, I know it was scary, I know how it must've felt being forced back into that mindset, but I want you to know that I'm in this for the long haul - you're not gonna scare me off. Because I love you, Bucky, and every single part of you - whether choking me out or not. Whether I earn a broken nose or not."
"I'm so sorry. I-I can't believe I did that, I'm so sorry, I hate that I hurt you. I'm so sorry, baby, I can't - I can't even put it in words how much I regret putting you in that position."
You smirked, "See? The Winter Soldier has no remorse, but my Bucky does." You gingerly reached out to curl his hair behind his ear. "My Bucky apologizes and takes accountability. There's no reason to not love that man - especially when he deserves it so much. Hey? Hear me? You deserve to be loved, too, Buck."
"And you deserve a man who doesn't run the risk of being turned into a psycho killing machine over a few measly words."
"I deserve to love my best friend, so let me do that. Say whatever you want, try to push me away - but I'm like a boomerang, baby, I'll just come right back."
"What kinda man puts his best girl in that kinda position? Who hurts the most important person in his life?"
"A man who endured decades of abuse," you laid your hands on either of his thighs, "a man who wasn't allowed control of his own mind. I can't - no, no, I won't fault you for that, Buck. Today wasn't your fault and I'll remind you of that as often as it takes. Don't you dare feel guilty because you didn't do this to me, okay? You didn't put me in any position - that fake fucking doctor did this, Agent Ross did this, special ops put us here. You, my sweet boy, didn't do anything to be at fault. You were trapped, but look at you now - freed, level headed, talking to me."
His eyes gleamed with a sheen of emotion, staring at the bloodied bandage wrapping your shoulder wound before his eyes danced over the bruising and other aftermath of your injuries. "I could've killed you," he muttered, tears filling his eyes.
"But you didn't - and surprisingly, neither did the Winter Soldier. Maybe there was a part of you still alive, wanting to refuse orders and not actually hurt me."
"Perhaps," he frowned. "I'm still so sorry, doll, I hate that I did this to you. It never should've happened."
Your head nodded, "I know, baby, and listen - I forgive you. Yeah? Hear me? I forgive you, this is in the past."
"Are you sure about me? You sure you wanna do this? Knowing I could flip a switch and hurt you - maybe even worse than today?"
"I'm sure about you, Buck," you agreed. "I don't wanna be without you, so, sign me up for whatever's to come."
"You might regret that."
"The only thing I could ever regret is abandoning you. I don't want to do this without you - I love our life together. In any world, in any lifetime, I'd still choose you. There's nothing that would make me regret you - regret being with you."
"You sure? I don't want to make you do anything out of your comfort."
"I love you, Bucky, yes, I'm sure. No matter what damage you think you might've caused, whatever damage has been done, I promise, that's not the truth. There's nothing about you that I could regret."
"Well, all that's left now is to get to Siberia, stop the other Winter Soldiers."
"And figure out a way to free your mind once and for all... It's what you deserve," you told him softly, rocking to your knees to meet his forehead with yours and caressing his cheek again. When you heard approaching footsteps, you sighed and pulled away from him to stand and turn, spying Sam and Steve. "C'mon, Cap, get him outta this. He's not gonna attack anyone," you requested, gesturing where your boyfriend was trapped.
"You sure?" Sam asked stiffly. "He did a real number on you alone. Not to mention all the other agents and cops he took out back there."
"He's good," you snapped, perking your brows at Steve, "and you two would do well not to throw what happened in his face, it wasn't his fault. So c'mon, free him, he's not a wild animal."
Steve agreed and lifted the machinery from Bucky's prosthetic, him instantly snatching it back and massaging where the joint met metal. Bucky stood with a set stare at Sam and Steve, as if anticipating them to lunge at him. His throat constricted, swelled with emotion when you stepped in front of him - posing barrier between the two Avengers and himself.
"You still got that phone on you?" Steve asked you softly.
"I do."
"Is it still unregistered?"
"You know it is. Who're we calling?"
"Reinforcements. We're gonna need help now that the Avengers will be looking for us. We gotta get to Siberia."
"Here," you agreed, unlocking the device and handing it over. "Who's first on your list?"
"Any Avenger who didn't sign the Sokovia Accords."
When he walked away with Sam again, you turned to face your lover directly; staring into swirling storms of baby blues. "You still with me?" You asked softly, reaching up to caress his hair again to push it behind his ear.
"Always. Got my six?"
"You know I do, baby," you smirked, stepping into his chest and wrapping your arms around his waist. "We'll figure this out, together."
"Together," he agreed, sighing deeply and returning your embrace tightly. His flesh hand rose to hold the back of your head, bringing his lips down to lay a chaste kiss on the top of your head. His voice rattled quietly, "Thank you..."
"Hmm? For what, handsome?"
"Believing in me. It's nice to think we can end this torment."
You smiled up at him, "You deserve freedom, Bucky, and to live without this haunting fear."
"I don't know about 'deserving' it, sweetheart. Done a lot of things that would argue against that."
"Maybe against the Winter Soldier, but Bucky deserves the world. Deserves kindness, accommodation, love and understanding. Now," you smirked and sniffled, giving his waist another squeeze before releasing and pulling back, "get your head outta this pit and focus, we've got a long day ahead of us."
He agreed, letting you take his hand and lace fleshy fingers together in a tether. Sam's face remained stoic and passive, but when Steve saw you two, he couldn't help but smile. Two years he hunted for Bucky and just today, he's learned his best friend's been shacked up with you - a warmth blooming in his chest over the idea of you two finding one another and loving each other.

summary: When your best friend gets you a new job, cleaning the apartment of the most successful man in New York City, you don't hesitate to accept. The pay is more than good, and the man himself is better than any eye candy you have ever seen. Unbeknownst to you, you've caught his attention just as much. Steve can't keep his mind off you, so much so, that he drives everyone around him insane with his grumpiness when you aren't around. It seems like he has to take matters into his own hands when he realizes, you're too shy to take things further yourself.
a/n: So that just happened... I don't know where it came from, but please enjoy. (Please don’t be discouraged by the word count - I promise you it’s worth it and I kindly ask you to at least try 💛)

“Can you start Monday?”
“I can start Monday.”
“Perfect.”
Holy fuckidy fuck fuck.
You had a job. A job that would crinkle some noses but it would pay money. Good money actually. Well, better than other offers in the branch.
It had been luck, really. Because during one drunken night, which had originally been dedicated to drowning yourself in self-pity over the last job that had let you go due to staff cuts, your friend Natasha had crashed your party with Chinese food and gossip from her workplace. She was an assistant for one of the CEO’s of Shield Protection Services. And during her lunch with Sharon, the other assistant, Sharon had complained about Steve Rogers and how he had fired the third maid this month because they, apparently, were taking pictures of his home or selling some of his things.
There might have been some talk about how picky and stuck up he could be but the important info was that Sharon was desperate at this point and had asked Nat if she knew anyone with the decency not to breach privacy and willingness to clean the CEO’s home.
The good thing - or bad thing, you weren’t sure - was, Nat knew you were desperate too. So she gave Sharon your number and before you knew it, you were an employed woman again.
❁ ❁ ❁
It was too early for you to be roaming the streets of New York, but you had gotten instructions and so you had gotten up at 6 and headed out to the address. And when you arrived, it felt as though it was the first time you blinked since the subway - you were that tired. Definitely not a morning person.
The building was huge, tall glass fronts stretching into the sky and the ride up to the penthouse took longer than your average elevator rides did.
The doors opened and revealed a beautiful open floor plan. A whole wall of windows brought natural light into the place and offered a view so breathtaking, it took you a moment to collect yourself. The place was ginormous - a lot to clean up - but seemed tidy enough to at least get started right away.
You placed your bag on the counter by the kitchen and took more of the place in when suddenly, a voice startled you.
“Who are you?” You whipped around, big eyes searching for the source until they landed on a tall man standing in what seemed to be a dining area - well, one of them at least. He had broad shoulders, neatly styled hair and one of those toothpaste smiles you only ever saw in magazines. He was wearing office attire, blue dress pants that slightly stretched over his muscled thighs, and when your head wandered back up his body, piercing blue eyes seemed to stare right into your soul.
Holy Shit.
Before you stood Steve Rogers, three-time Forbes Magazine cover story, young entrepreneur turned filthy-rich hunk of a man, and CEO of the most successful security firm in this country. And he was talking to you - staring at you... waiting for an answer.
Talking, you needed to start talking, you reminded yourself.
“I’m the new maid, sir. I’m so sorry I was told to come here at 7 as you leave for work before that.”
Mr. Rogers looked at you with an unintelligible stare. Meanwhile, you were nervously wringing your hands in the doorway, looking down. You hadn’t planned for anyone important to see you today. The worn-down Fleetwood Mac shirt you didn’t mind getting bleach on hanging over some pants you pulled from the back of your closet definitely wasn’t the kind of outfit you expected to greet Steve Rogers in. Great start. This was going awful.
“Well I’m here aren’t I?” His arms folded before his chest as his eyebrow raised, impressive biceps bulging beneath the white button-up, and - damn - it was hard not to stare.
“Right. Yes. Sorry. I’ll come back later.” You turned to leave again but he stopped you.
“No need. I am on my way out.” The left corner of his mouth twitched into a cheeky grin when he grabbed his bag, left the newspaper discarded on the table, and placed his coffee mug in the sink. Interesting.
“Don’t snoop.” He whispered teasingly as he passed you, a whiff of expensive cologne paralyzing your senses and you weren’t sure if he was making a suggestion or actually warning you. That damn perfume seemed to hypnotize you.
Your eyes followed his broad shoulders until they disappeared behind the corner and then the elevator doors shut. It seemed to take all the tension from your face. You exhaled long and then began to look around some more.
The place was huge, you’d already established that. But when you found the third bedroom amongst the private office and Pool table room, you knew you had to make a weekly plan to work off. You had to give Mr. Rogers credit, though. There was rarely any clutter lying around - it wasn’t dirty per se - just had the usual dust you’d expect in a place this size with only one person living in it.
You huffed, resting your hand on your hips once you completed the tour. And then you got started.
❁ ❁ ❁
Steve peered up from his computer screen when Bucky strolled through the doors of his office. A coffee in hand he had most likely tweaked from his assistant's desk on the way here, he shot a grin to his oldest friend and business partner.
“What ya doing, punk?” The brunette asked teasingly when he circled the desk and settled on the window sill behind Steve.
“Just making sure things stay in order.” He leaned back and turned around slightly, just in time to see his friend nod knowingly.
“Heard Nat got you a new maid.” Bucky dipped his chin towards the laptop still open on the desk. “That her?”
His eyes wandered to the screen where a live feed of his apartment streamed you changing his bedsheets. He hummed in agreement.
“She’s pretty,” Bucky commented before sipping his coffee again and Steve felt an unfamiliar feeling bubble in his stomach. “But I bet you don’t care anyway. You’re all ‘don’t sell my stuff’ and ‘having things stolen from a security firm CEO is embarrassing’. Wouldn’t know a pretty thing like that if it climbed you.”
“Because it is embarrassing. And I highly recommend you monitor your staff to make sure they don’t do the same.” Of course, Steve knew you were ‘pretty’. Exactly his type, to be honest. He had noticed it the second you stepped into his apartment this morning. The way your hands wrung beneath you. And he had shot you a teasing remark in hopes of discovering a sassy fire in those timid doe eyes of yours. But you had stumbled over your words like a fawn.
Bucky clicked his tongue disapprovingly. “Nonsense. Peggy is great - and too old to even carry anything valuable out of my place. I trust her with my life and house keys.” And then he pushed off the sill. “I think it’s time for you to get laid again. And that’s why I’m a great friend and organized dinner and drinks with Tony and Sam tonight.”
Steve fell back in his chair, hands over his eyes. “I don’t need your wing-maning me. I’m perfectly fine on my own.”
“Sure.”
“I’m serious, Buck.”
“You can thank me later.” He stout towards the door. “You know... after you’ve been devoured by the pretty little waitress at the Ironbar.” Bucky winked before his face disappeared again.
Steve just huffed as his eyes landed back on the weekly report on his desk and then swayed back to his computer screen.
As unwilling as he was to admit it, it had been some time since his last late-night rendezvous. And as he saw you crawl up on his bed to place the bedsheets properly along his mattress, he felt his pants tighten slightly.
❁ ❁ ❁
“We’ll get one more round of the good stuff.”
“Of course Mr. Stark.” Tony winked and patted his waitress’s butt before she stalked away on her high heels and towards the locked glass cabinet behind the bar.
Steve had designed it himself, a fiberglass shrine-like display for ridiculously expensive liquors, only to be opened by a passcode that got regenerated every week. He watched as Betty - the young and lanky waitress - retrieved a crystal bottle of whiskey and filled four glasses with the golden liquid.
“God, I love that thing,” Tony sighed next to Steve and watched Betty with a satisfied smile.
“You better be talking about that cabinet, Stark.” Steve shook his head with a frown only to receive a wink from Tony, who was sitting closest to him at the round table.
“So...” Bucky leaned over to Steve and spoke in a hushed voice. “You see anything you like?” He gestured at the bar where Tony’s carefully picked waitresses passed with filled and emptied glasses and bottles. They were all wearing tight black t-shirts and skirts or shorts that counted just as scandalous. One could foolishly mistake this place for a Hooters if Tony hadn’t made it one of the most pristine bars in all of New York City.
It was popular amongst the clientele which mainly consisted of bored rich men that came here to get something to look at without being judged for it. But Steve wasn’t feeling the girls today. When Betty shoved her breasts in his field of view, all he could think about was how he had never gotten the idea to get his maids a uniform that catered to his... liking. And when Betty swayed her hips on her way to the bar, his thoughts became clouded by the image of you in a short little skirt, riding up just a little to tease I’m about what was hidden underneath when you kneeled on his bed to get the sheets sorted.
Steve adjusted his pants at the little flashback, clearing his throat and sitting up straighter in his seat.
“Oh, apparently you have...” Bucky grinned before his eyes hushed down to Steve’s crotch and back up just as fast. “Well then,” he leaned back with a satisfied grin. “Which one is it? Samatha? Tiffany? Though I think Megan is more your type.”
“Just shut up, punk.”
“Okay you don’t have to tell me me... either way, my job here is done.” He brushed his hands off fake dust and smiled smugly. “You better be in a good mood tomorrow.”
Steve just huffed and waited for Betty to come back with ‘the good stuff’ to hopefully drown out his annoying friends for the rest of the night. It wasn’t that he didn’t like them. No, he would do anything for the people he chose to have in his life. The group he found himself in right now had been through thick and thin with him, stayed through his fame and fortune, and was just as supportive before it had all happened to either of them. He was happy having the guys because they built each other up and aimed for greatness - together, they were fucking invincible.
But sometimes, Steve felt a little out of place amongst Bucky and Tony. It was in situations regarding women most of all because he could never adapt the attitude to talk about them the way they did. And he never had the headspace to juggle as many as they did. He had tried the one-night stands. But he struggled to navigate the superficial pleasure maze New York City provided in masses. Because just as the ever-passing smiles on the streets, it wasn’t fulfilling enough for Steve. At least not in the way it was for his friends.
He wanted what Sam had. A partner, a family, something constant and beautiful. And that was, why he found himself asking for pictures of Sam’s kids and nephews rather than listen to Tony’s latest bed bunny endeavor whenever the conversations took a turn in that direction.
“Earth to Rogers,” Sam’s finger snapped in front of Steve’s face. “What this I’m hearing? You got a new maid? What happened to the old one?”
“She sold his stuff on Craigslist.” Bucky snorted and took a sip of the drink that had magically appeared in front of them.
“You aren’t serious.”
“I really liked that tie,” Steve grumbled into his cup.
“Man, I’m glad I don’t have to deal with things like that. You rich people really are a different breed.”
“You’re rich, too, Sam.”
Sam just smiled above his crystal glass, having fun with the little joke he liked to pull for ages now. He wasn’t any less successful than any of the other men at their table. But other than them, he had settled in a beautiful neighborhood - despising the concrete jungle each of the other guys lived in. His house felt like home, like a cozy place that had seen love and time and nothing like the polished and sleek man caves the rest of them owned.
“Well, anyways, my amazing assistant organized him a new one, the prettiest thing - really. But he’s refusing to see it.”
Tony chuckled. “Well, that's Rogers in a nutshell, isn’t it.”
Sam just pursed his lips and glanced over at Steve with a soft smile, ignoring the comments of the other guys. They never explicitly talked about it, but Sam was a smart man, and it would have surprised Steve, had he not already figured out that he was more of a family man than their friends were as of right now.
“To new maids that aren’t selling your clothes on the internet then.” He raised his drink and winked at Steve once their glasses clinked.
And Steve? He visibly exhaled, silently thanking Sam for pulling the tension out of their conversation.
❁ ❁ ❁
It had been a little over a week. And so far, things had been going great.
By now, you had cleaned through the entire place once and set up a plan of what to do on which day. You weren’t surprised it actually took a full 6 days to cover every single room in Mr. Rogers’s apartment. You had already figured out which tasks were going to be your favorite and which weren’t. Like his bedroom. You liked doing that. Because even though the sheets were a bitch to get on the ginormous bed, you kind of liked the smell the room had. His pillows smelled of the cologne you couldn’t forget ever since the man had brushed past you on your very first day.
You were pretty sure you would never forget that since your knees literally felt like giving in at that moment.
Today, it was bedroom day. That and the on-suite.
With a smile on your face, you entered the apartment on the top floor, each day secretly hoping you’d catch a glimpse of the CEO before he took off to work. But even though you tried to arrive ten minutes earlier (you really couldn’t spare any more sleep for your own good), the first day remained an exception in Mr. Rogers’s daily schedule.
You placed your bag on the stool at the open kitchen island, changed into some other shoes, and headed for the supply closet. Despite the size of the place, you actually got around pretty easily. Mr. Rogers was a very organized and neat man - you’d noticed that the first and only time you met him. So things were almost always where you’d think they would be. Which made your job just that much easier. But also prevented you from the advised ‘not snooping’ you desperately wanted to do.
You knew better though.
People like Steve Rogers probably had cameras installed in this place. And you would certainly not go and rummage through his underwear drawer after he had personally told you not to. Who knows what strings powerful people like him could pull. So, for the sake of not waking up on a cargo ship to Madagascar one day, you restrained yourself as much as possible.
Of course, you didn’t stop your eyes from wandering whenever you swept the shelves in his walk-in closet or closed the drawers in his office space. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. And this girl had a nosy best friend on her back that wanted to know every little detail of her new job... and was also way too invested in celebrity gossip.
Though, as always, there was nothing out of the ordinary today - there never was. Sure, it was still exciting to see how the filthy rich lived but other than that, no scandalous collection of women’s underwear, or drug lord papers lying around. You started to believe that Steven Grant Rogers was a very boring man. Not that you could properly judge in your position, seeing as you did not really know him, but the whole being in his home seemed a little too intimate not to do so.
So that day you finished the tasks for the day, packed your stuff, and made your way back home, hoping to see him in the morning or to at least find something more interesting than dust in his home.
❁ ❁ ❁
Steve greeted the concierge of his building when he entered the marbled entree hall. With a little frown and a look at his watch, the man greeted him back before he resumed his work.
Yes, Steve was home earlier than usual. He regularly stayed even longer than his original work schedule intended. Today, however, he was home even earlier. But after another banter with Bucky about Steve’s non-existent sex life, he couldn’t imagine making it past five in the same building as his persistent best friend. So, he fled the office and decided to work through the rest of his papers at home.
Of course, Steve knew that Bucky only wanted the best for him. But the ways he tried to approach the supposed bothersome loneliness Steve had in his bed just weren’t for Steve. Those might have worked on Tony - hell, Tony probably invented setting his friends up with one-night-stands - but not on Steve.
He huffed and swiped some loose hairs from his forehead as the elevator dinged at the top floor. The doors opened to the window front of his penthouse apartment and Steve stepped over the threshold, immediately stopping in his tracks when he took in the scene before him.
The vacuum was running while you were kneeling on the floor, wiping up some water he only assumed came from the vase missing next to his sofa. He would have found it rather amusing if it weren’t for the way you carried yourself today. Something wasn’t right.
Steve knew that you weren’t usually this messy - that much he could tell from the livestream that had become a constant in his office by now. Your head hung low, your motions hurried and sloppy. He watched as you swiped the floor, one of your sleeves constantly slipping down your arm again until you angrily pushed it up further than necessary.
It was worrisome.
He couldn’t place the feeling he felt in his chest when he sat his briefcase down and approached you from behind. His foot carefully turned off the vacuum and then he stood still, careful not to startle you when you finally looked up at him.
He could see it in your eyes then. The panic, the uncertainty, and something else he hadn’t seen in them before.
You looked around you as if you were seeing the mess for the first time and when Steve was still watching you with an arched brow after a minute of silence, you suddenly sprung up to your feet.
“I am so Sorry, Mr. Rogers. I didn’t realize it was this late already.” You turned a full 360 until your eyes landed on his again. “I’ll have this cleaned up in no time and I'll be out of your way. I promise.”
Steve watched as you scrambled to gather the vacuum cord, struggling with it when it didn’t immediately snap back into the caster. “The subway was stuck in a tunnel for an hour because some guy decided to pull the emergency break for fun. And then this lady passed out next to me and when the fire department finally got us out and the paramedics packed her in the ambulance, I realized that I still had her purse.” You finally got the cord in turning so fast that the wet rag in your hands sprayed some water on Steve. “And do you know how difficult it is to find out which hospital they’re taking people? Because it’s so much more difficult than it looks in the movies. I didn’t know that! And then it was almost 10 a.m. when I got here. I am so sorry. This won’t happen again I promise-“
“Hey,” Steve finally stepped forward and caught your flailing hands with his and it shut you up. “It’s alright.” He spoke softly, guiding your hands down and proceeding to carefully stroke your arms down. “Are you okay? Do you need a day off?”
Your doe eyes stared up at him, round and shiny as if you couldn’t believe he was actually standing in front of you. And Steve had to admit, besides the concern breezing through his body, your face was capturing up close. He traced your lashes with his gaze, the way your lips were parted slightly, your teeth showing past your upper lip, and the way your eyebrows were raised in shock.
“No... no, I’m fine.” You finally stammered and it made Steve relax a little.
“Then take a breath for me, please.” You nodded and Steve watched as your shoulders moved when you inhaled with your eyes closed. It shook Steve out of his trance. He cleared his throat and retreated his hands from your arms, awkwardly standing up a little straighter now that there was no excuse to touch you anymore.
You were fine - that’s what you had said. But you didn’t quite seem that way.
He watched as you opened your eyes and gifted him a small smile. Then your gaze dew to the floor and the mess you were standing in. Your smile turned awkward.
“I’ll clean this up real quick and then I’ll be out of your hair.”
Steve shook his head with a smile. Maybe this was a nice opportunity to do as Bucky had suggested. It was true, Steve hadn’t been interested enough before. Had he taken more time to know his former maids better, he could have probably prevented his things from being stolen and sold. Maybe it wasn’t exactly what Bucky had meant by ‘interested’, but Save decided it would do for now. “You can do what you need to and you can take as much time as you need to. I’ll be in my office for some time, so please don’t rush. I didn’t mean to freak you out by coming home earlier.”
His arms reached up to scratch the back of his neck and your eyes landed on his bicep. Those damn doe eyes. “O- okay.”
He nodded, buried his hands in his pockets, gifted you a tight-lipped smile, and then proceeded to grab his briefcase and disappear into his office at the end of the hall.
After some time, he heard the vacuum pick back up. Steve peaked through his open office door and caught a glimpse of you roaming his living room every now and then. It was relieving to know that you were functioning again. You had him worried for a second there - a feeling the successful CEO hadn’t welcomed in a hot minute. But it was kind of nice, made him feel a little more human than usual. So he didn’t mind having you work while he was home. On the contrary, actually, even though he had a huge stack of papers to go through, having to do them with a little bit of white noise was much more efficient than he had thought. He liked it when the occasional sound of items being set down snook its way to his office just to be interrupted by the vacuum again. And before he knew it, the workload he had taken home with him today, was worked through.
Steve made his way to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee. Though, as he waited for the machine, he found himself leaning against the counter and watching you work in front of him. You were currently bent over the sofa, arranging the cushions after shaking them out, your shirt riding up ever so slightly and exposing a strip of skin on your back.
The fresh grounding of coffee beans covered the way Steve gulped loudly at the sight of you in front of him. This was definitely different than watching on his laptop screen. He felt his pants tighten ever so slightly as he imagined walking up to you and just taking you from behind. Your face would press into the pillows as he would easily push into you, hearing your drawn-out moans through the cushions.
He couldn’t help himself, you were just so pretty.
The smell of coffee drew Steve back to reality. It wasn’t that simple. Because Steve wanted you to want him as well. But you didn’t know him well enough yet.
You pulled the vacuum around the corner and seconds later the sound of the storage room door closing echoed through the apartment. You walked back into the living room, adjusted the book on his coffee table, and then looked at your work with your hands on your hips. It was kind of cute to watch, Steve had to admit.
“Well done,” Steve praised and your shoulders jerked in surprise.
“Woah, didn’t see you there, Sir.” You relaxed again and then moved to change your shoes, before packing the other pair in your bag. You looked like you were about to leave, but Steve didn’t want that.
“Would you like some coffee?” He offered and turned to grab the mug that was just filled with the steaming hot beverage.
But you shook your head, raising your hands. “Oh, I wouldn’t want to intrude. I’m sure you’ve got work to do...”
“I wouldn’t have asked if it were an inconvenience.”
You looked down and nodded, which made Steve smile and hand you the cup. Your hands encased it like it was a cold winter's day, timid looks roaming the room and landing everywhere but him.
“You seem uncomfortable,” he tried, cautious not to intrude.
“I’m not. It’s just that... I’m not used to,” you gestured around the kitchen, “all this.”
“I know it sounds stupid but sometimes I feel the same.” Steve took in the high ceilings and shiny surfaces, the expensive paintings and furniture he had no part in picking out.
You just stared at him again before nodding and averting your eyes once more. It seemed like you were holding back, but Steve didn’t feel like he was in the position to ask. So he just had to do with your fleeting glances and diffident presence. It was fine for now. Though he didn’t know if he could actually stand it for long.
“You got this job through Bucky’s assistant, right?”
“Natasha, yes. She’s my best friend.” Your eyes lit up and Steve celebrated the little victory in silence. He had finally found something to talk about with you.
“How long have you known each other?” He took a sip of his own coffee, acting indifferent, though his gaze hung on your lips.
“We’ve been friends since high school. But then we went to different colleges and for a moment, we lost contact. But when I called her after graduation, we reconnected. We coincidentally both moved to New York. It’s nice to have her back.”
“That does sound nice. I know a thing or two about reconnecting with old friends.” Steve smiled reminiscent.
“Right, your business partner. Mr. Barnes.” You set your mug down when Steve shot you a surprised look. “Sorry, but it’s hard not to know things about you when every tabloid in the country has covered your story.”
Steve nodded, being reminded once again how different his life was now. Not that he didn’t appreciate it... it just used to be simpler.
“Yes, Bucky is my oldest friend... we’d lost contact in-between as well. Now we spend so much time together, I sometimes wish it was that way again.”
“You don’t mean that,” you laughed and Steve swore it was the prettiest he’d ever heard.
“Of course not.” He set his cup down once he noticed that you had finished your coffee and had grabbed your bag from the stool.
“I should go,” you smiled sadly and Steve just nodded with a similar expression on his face. Then he pushed off the counter and walked you to the elevator. He caught your small wave before the doors closed, leaving his stomach feeling warm and fuzzy.
This was definitely new.
❁ ❁ ❁
The next week was pure torture.
Steve couldn’t work from home like he had wanted to. He also couldn’t go to work later to at least catch a ‘good morning’ from you.
It had only lasted a couple more days. He had managed to trap you for a conversation with coffee two times after the first one and then it all went downhill from there.
Steve’s work seemed to pile up in unusual amounts of papers on his desk. His e-mails and meetings were longer than ever and his frustrations built with every new message Sharon redirected to his phone.
It wasn’t until Bucky pointed out how unusually grumpy he was, that Steve realized, he missed you. How could that have happened? He barely knew you and talked to you even less than that. But he knew he was missing you. Because as silly as it sounded, the time he spent with you, he was more relaxed than ever before.
“I’m headed home, now. Do you need anything before I go?” Sharon popped her head through the door of Steve’s office after the knock she placed there.
Steve just sighed as he closed one of a dozen tabs on his computer. Then he shook his head. “See you tomorrow.”
“Bright and early!” She beamed and Steve just waved her off.
The door fell shut once again and Steve moved to close a second tab. The one open beneath was the video footage of his home. It was paused because Steve had categorized it as ‘not suited for work’ once he saw you climb on his bed to straighten out the sheets and his dick reminded him just how deprived he really was.
Looking at the paused video now, his pants tightened again. There you were, on all fours on his bed, tugging the sheet under the headboard side of his mattress - ass up and struggling. Fucking hell.
His hand instinctively moved to his crotch to relieve some tension and then his eyes fell to his office door. Sharon had gone home. He was likely the only one left. His gaze wandered back to his computer screen and before he knew it, he was rubbing his hard cock through his pants.
He groaned lowly at the feeling spreading through his body, the image on his screen just intensifying the scenarios he usually imagined when he got himself off. Because now they had your face. And your perfect body. If he squinted at the screen, he could actually see a sliver of your underwear peaking out the top of your pants.
“Jesus Christ,” He pushed through his teeth when his hands worked to open his belt and pulled his rock-hard length out. He was already leaking from the angry red tip.
His thumb grazed over his sensitive flesh, spreading the beads of precum and his whole body shivered when he imagined you doing it instead. His knees spread further apart in his office chair as he squeezed the base of his cock, concentrating on his breathing to slow. And then, without thinking, his other hand moved to play the video.
Steves eyes never left the screen as he watched you tug the sheets tight. Your ass bounced up and down with the motion and he began to pump his shaft, imagining pushing into you from behind. Then you crawled back slowly, careful not to pull the sheet off again, but one corner came loose anyway. As you leaned forward, your new position seemed even more obscene - with your arms stretched forward and your ass still slightly lifted off the mattress.
Steve’s fist pumped harder up and down his cock, he was panting. He could already feel the orgasm building. His balls were on the edge of bursting - but he wanted to hold out a little longer.
For a second, his gaze jumped to the little speaker icon at the bottom right corner of his screen. His right hand still pumping with a tight grip, the left moved to slightly turn up the volume on the stream.
Just then, you released a frustrated groan, followed by a throatier, softer noise that could almost be mistaken for a moan and Steve lost it. His fist stroked his thick cock in hard fast motions, the tingle in his body building with every heavy breath you released. His thumb grazed over his tip when you fell forward like a fawn and it was enough to make him burst.
He closed his eyes and threw his head back on the chair. With a last firm push, he tumbled over the edge, squeezing his flesh as he felt the hot ropes of cum cover his hand. His heart beat in his ears once the ecstasy subsided, his chest rising and falling with deep breaths.
Steve stared at the ceiling, sighing in defeat. He was in deep now.
❁ ❁ ❁
“So... how’s it going?” Nat’s voice rang through your speaker and you pressed your phone a little harder to your ear to hear her over the street noises.
“It’s going really good. I don’t see him that often but he’s not messy at all, so it’s really not that bad.”
“Good, I’m glad!” Nat cheered on the other end of the line and you could hear her computer keys clicking beneath her fingernails. “Anything you wanna tell me?” Her tone was suggestive, and you kind of hated how well she knew you.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Oh, come on, we’re stating the obvious here. He’s hot!”
“Nat!” You gasped appalled. “I’m not going around asking you if you think your boss is hot.”
“Why not? I'm not ashamed to admit it. My boss is hot,” she stated plainly and shorty after a distant ‘You got that right, doll!’ was heard through your speaker.
“Oh my god,” you muttered, watching around you as if anyone could hear what Nat was saying.
“So...?”
“Okay, yes he’s super hot and I wish he would just grab me with his big muscled arms and kiss the life out of me every time I see him. Are you happy now?”
“Yes, very.”
You waved at the concierge when you reached Mr. Roger’s apartment building and then stepped into the elevator. “Good. I can’t believe I just made me say that out loud.”
“We both know it’s true. No shame in a little crush.” You could practically hear her grin through the phone and it just annoyed you even more. How could she call you out when she was a mile away?
“Great, now I’m actually imagining kissing him and running my hands down his chest,” You huffed as the elevator door opened and turned the corner just to stop in your tracks.
“I knew it!”
“Nat, I’ll call you later.”
“Okay, but-“ and then you ended the call as your eyes were glued to the kitchen counter.
You stepped closer, your eyes never leaving where they had landed upon your arrival. There, on the polished black marble, stood a vase with a beautiful bouquet of pastel flowers.
Your breath hitched in your throat as your fingers traced the colorful petals, and you leaned in to smell them. This was so sweet! A little giddiness shot through your body at the sight of the flowers. You’d never expected them from Mr. Rogers and it was nice to be appreciated.
Feeling excitement all over, your fingers reached for the little white card lodged between a eucalyptus branch. But when you turned it over, all of it fell like someone had turned on gravity again.
Happy one month!
Your mind repeated the words over and over again until they registered.
Happy one month.
You dropped the card and it made a dull clicking noise on the counter. How could you have been so naïve? Nat had put this stupid haze in your brain, getting you all giddy and excited. Of course, he had a fucking girlfriend. How could he not? He was Steve fucking Rogers.
You needed to take a step back and breathe. Those were a few too many emotions to feel in the early morning for you. Now you even felt guilty about wanting to run your fingers down his body. God, you’d even said it out loud - how embarrassing!
“Okay, girl. Relax. Nobody heard,” you reminded yourself out loud. And then you took a deep breath with your eyes closed.
“It’s not embarrassing if nobody saw. I’m the only one that can decide the level of awkwardness here.” Maybe stop talking to yourself then. You nodded and carefully placed the card back in the bouquet.
“This never happened,” you whispered, more so to ensure yourself. “Just move on with your day.”
Thank god it wasn’t kitchen day - you wouldn’t be able to stand the sight of those flowers any longer.
With your shoulders pulled back and your head held high, you made your way to the supply closet and got to work.
It’s just another day. You reminded yourself when you pulled your cleaning supplies out and into the office.
Just like any other day...
❁ ❁ ❁
Boy, had you never been any more wrong.
Your phone rang at 7.30 that evening. You had already made yourself comfortable on your sofa, ready to binge a whole season of Gilmore Girls, after a successful day of pretending you hadn’t gotten the biggest turn-down of the century this morning. You had finished your cleaning plan, you had gone grocery shopping, bought yourself some own damn flowers, and even showered all before the sun had set.
But now your phone rang and the caller ID could not mean anything good.
“Hello?”
“Good evening!” Your name echoed through the speaker of your phone, a - for your taste - way too cheery woman on the other end. “I am very sorry I have to call so late. I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
“That’s alright, what do you need?” You bit your lip nervously, only dreading the next words of Mr. Rogers’s assistant.
“Well, actually it is not I that needs anything. Mr. Rogers requested for you to see him. Is that possible?”
“What? When?”
“Now would be amazing.” Your eyes widened at her words. Mr Rogers wanted to see you and it couldn’t wait until tomorrow? You must have done something horribly wrong. Oh, god, had he noticed you messed with the flowers? Had he seen you sniff his pillows? All possible scenarios of wrongdoing swarmed your head when you sprung up and bolted for your closet.
“I can be there in thirty minutes,” you hurried through the speaker just to receive a satisfied hum from the other end.
“Amazing! Thank you so much.”
She had hung you before you could even answer. It didn’t matter. You looked through your clothes, trying to decide what an appropriate ‘getting fired’ outfit would consist of - probably no sweatpants, so you could find the closest bar and drink your sorrows away in connection to the dreaded talk.
You pulled out something, you could see yourself crying in and headed for the door.
❁ ❁ ❁
8.00 pm on the dot, the elevator doors opened to reveal a beautiful New York Skyline. Unfortunately, you neither had the headspace, nor the time to appreciate it properly. As soon as you turned the corner you saw Mr. Rogers casually leaning on the kitchen island.
Instantly, you felt intimidated. He had never done anything to make you feel scared or in danger, but his mere presence was so powerful, you didn’t quite know how to act around him. Especially, because on top of it all, he was the most attractive man you’d ever laid your eyes on.
“What did I do?” It just sprung out of you, your arms wanted to hug your body but you willed them still. He didn’t need to see how worried you really were.
To your surprise, however, his face scrunched up in amusement instead. He pushed himself off the counter and gestured towards the flowers still standing proud on that polished marble top.
“You forgot your flowers.”
“My... my flowers?” He nodded with a small frown, probably confused by your reaction. And to be honest, you were too.
“Yes... I got you flowers. You’ve officially been working here for a month. That’s a record.” He shook his head with a chuckle and then rubbed the back of his neck. “I’m... very picky.”
His eyes met yours and a whole new wave of uncertainty washed over you. You didn’t miss the hesitation in his tone, the carefully chosen wording for something he didn’t exactly say.
“So, I’m not fired.” God, why did it take so long for you to register. You just looked so stupid right now.
“On the contrary.” Mr. Rogers took a step closer, though still keeping a respectable distance. “I think I can trust you. I’m very pleased with your work. You deserve them.”
“I do?” You looked up at him with big eyes when he took another step closer. He was so tall, you had to tilt your head up now that he was so near.
“Can I trust you?”
His chest would almost touched you, if you were to breathe any heavier. Your breath hitched in your throat when the faint remains of his perfume reached your nose. It was as intoxicating - the way his eyes stared down at you - intense and looming. “Ye- Yes.”
“Good.” His voice was a raw timbre. His gaze drifted to the side, where his hand slowly reached up to lay on your shoulder. You felt warm and tingly from the touch.
Not knowing what to do exactly, you just held your breath and stared up at his eyes. They were so blue - and up close, they were so much more captivating than any magazine photograph could ever display.
You wanted to touch him, reach out, and pull him down towards you, but he had just told you he trusted you. Were you really going to risk this perfectly good job for a heated moment?
His other hand came up to graze your cheek with a careful touch and the worry of losing your job suddenly became very small. Mr. Roger’s hands were warm, his fingers almost hot even compared to your heated face.
So you did it. Your hand reached forward and landed on the top of his chest, one of them traveled down the hard plane of his torso while the other clawed at his shirt collar. His thumb traveled to your lower lip, pulling it down and then stroking over the soft flesh, touching your teeth as well.
Guided by the heat traveling through our body, your right hand tightened around his shirt and pulled him down and onto your lips. The blonde man jerked forward until his mouth crashed onto yours, immediately moving in perfect sync with yours.
Your insides were tingling from the kiss when you felt his lips pull into a smile. His big hands roamed your body until they snook around your back, pulling you flush against his body and making you sigh contently.
Mr. Rogers chuckled and then kissed you deeper. His touch was everywhere, yours too. Your mind was free of anything that wasn’t the tall, built, blonde man in your arms as soon as his tongue traced your bottom lip - asking for you to let him in. And you did just that. When he began to explore your mouth, you melted even further into his embrace.
No man had ever kissed you like that. Which was why you dreaded the moment you had to pull away for air.
Your hand landed on his cheek, thumb softly stroking his beard, eyes locked with his.
“You’re very good at this.”
He just chuckled and pecked your lips once more. “Up.” He demanded, suddenly, he grabbed your thighs and lifted you as if you weighed nothing.
“What are you doing?”
“I'm gonna show you how good I am at this.”
Then he set you down on the bed and pushed you back until your head hit the comforter. His scent, the one you’d secretly been craving ever since you started working here, engulfed you like a big blanket. He stood above you, big and broad-shouldered, looming over you like a wild animal. But you weren’t scared.
“You know how long I’ve wanted to do this?” His lips attached to your collarbone, sucking and licking bruises to your skin until you moaned beneath him and your hands clung to his hair. “I’ve been watching you,” he murmured to your neck and a shiver traveled down your spine.
“I knew it,” you gasped when he reached a spot behind your ears that sparked more pleasure. The thought of him spending his day watching you made you all excited and impatient.
“The way you stumble about this place when you clean it... How do you navigate the world being this clumsy, Bambi?” A whimper escaped you at the nickname he chose for you. “You need somebody to take care of you, huh.”
You arched your back to brush up against him. His hard cock was already straining his pants, pressing into your own deliciously. “Ah, yes.”
“Don’t worry, Bambi, I’m right here. I’ll take real good care of you.” His fingers traveled down your body until they reached the hem of your jeans and began to tug on them.
You pulled him down to your lips once more, guiding his head back to that spot behind your ear that had you squirming on the sheets. “So needy.”
His voice was so low and husky now, you barely noticed he had already worked your pants open and halfway down your legs. You kicked them off the rest of the way and arched yourself back against him just to have him grind down on your core.
“Feel so good, so big,” you mumbled through the haze you already found yourself in. God, what was it with this man - he was out of this world.
“You can’t wait any longer, can you, Bambi?” His hands moved beneath your shirt and began to massage your breasts. “But I get it. I don’t wanna wait any longer, either.”
In a swift motion, he had you flipped on your stomach, his hands traveling to your hips to pull you on all fours in front of him. Then the bed dipped and you felt his fingers press to your soaked underwear. He rubbed the drenched fabric over your entrance, only driving you wild with need when his fingers reached higher to your clit. “So pretty.”
“I need you,” you whined, “need you so bad.”
“Believe me, I need you too.” He pulled the black lace over the curve of your ass and you felt the cool bedroom air hit your wet core, only making you shiver once more.
“You’re so fucking perfect, you know that.” You could only whimper in response when his hand pushed your head into the comforter and his face suddenly pressed into your pussy from behind.
“Oh, god.” A yelp escaped you as his tongue teased at your entrance, only to be pulled back to lick a long strip from your clit back to it. His hand massaged your cheeks and the constant moaning to your core shook you from the inside out.
“This isn’t enough, is it, Bambi?” He dragged a strong finger up your spine. “You need me to fill you all the way up, don’t you? Need me to mark you, show everyone you’re mine.”
“Yes, yes, fill me up, give it all to me. Fuck me and make me yours.” You were so desperate at this point. His mouth had you squirming and aching for the promising bulge beneath his pants and you couldn’t wait to feel him raw - you’d let him do anything.
You turned your head and watched as he unbuckled his belt. Within seconds, his cock sprung free from its restraints and your breath hitched in your throat. He was thick and long, a prominent vein running along his side up to his tip, pink and already decorated by a bead of precum. Of course, Steve Rogers had a pretty cock. What wasn’t perfect about him?
“You’re so wet already, Bambi. So ready for my fat cock, aren’t you? You’ll suck me right in, I just know it.”
“Please! I wanna feel all of you.” Another whimper got swallowed by the mattress when you waited in anticipation for him to finally fuck you.
His one hand grabbed your ass and the other aligned his cock with your entrance. You could feel his head already breaching, a delicious stretch sending shocks through your body in hot and cold waves of pleasure.
He groaned lowly and it sent shivers down your spine. “Relax, baby girl. You’re so tight. You’ll be so stuffed with me.”
“I need you de-. I- ah just please!”
He worked himself forward with small rocking motions, each time reaching a little deeper into your core and when you thought he was finally all the way in, he pushed even further until your ass was pressed flush to his thighs.
You screamed into the covers and reached for something to grasp when he groaned behind you. “Gripping me like a vice, Bambi. Are you gonna be able to take it?” He shivered behind you and you could tell he was struggling to hold still until you answered him.
“I can take it. Your big cock feels so good inside me. Oh, god, please move.”
“Fuck.” Wet noises filled the room when he drew back almost all the way, just to slam back into you. In this position the curve of his cock stroked your walls perfectly, making it hard to hold back the building orgasm.
“I’m so close already, sir. I’m-”
“Fucking call me Steve,” he roared and pushed your face further into the covers. “You gonna come? Gonna squeeze my cock with your pretty little pussy already, huh?”
You could only whimper in response, the steady stroke of his body clouded your mind until you felt like you were floating.
“I-“Another scream ripped through your speech when the pleasure exploded within you. Steve slowed his motions, seemingly unable to move with the way your muscles contracted around him. And when the pulsing pleasure lessened after what felt like minutes, he picked his pace back up again.
“That was so sexy. You gonna do that again for me? I’m so fucking close.”
His hand reached around you and began to massage your clit in tight little circles and your body lifted off the bed. Steve had pulled you up flush against his chest and watched his hand work on your clit over your shoulder.
“’S too much! Ah!” You were still pulsing around his cock with every circle he traced on your bundle of nerves, making your legs quiver.
“You’re doing so good, Bambi. You can give me another. Milk my cock dry.” He kissed your neck and bit your skin. “So fucking beautiful, how’d I get so lucky?”
“Steve!” You felt another wave of pleasure approaching, just for his fingers to still on your clit, his hand now pressing into your stomach.
“I’m almost there, baby. Hold it a little longer.” His face fell into your neck and you could feel his cock twitch inside you while his hot breath licked down your shoulder. “Don’t you fucking cum until I say so.”
“I don’t know if I-“
“Yes, you can!” Steve pushed you until you fell onto all fours again and then guided your hips to meet his hard strokes. His movements became frantic and fast, making you lose your mind.
“I’m gonna fill you to the brim, Bambi. Make you drip with my cum for days. You’re mine.”
“Steve! Steve!” You couldn’t hold it any longer, it was too much. He was so big, and his movements so fast, there was no way you were lasting any longer.
“Wait. Almost there.”
“I can’t. I can’t! I’m- Oh my god!”
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuuuuuuuuck.” With one last hard slam, Steve shot his hot seed in your pussy. Your walls clenched with every lewd sound he pushed through his heavy breaths. “Cumming so much for you, Bambi. All for you. Uhnggghh.” He rutted into you a couple more times and once the intense feeling faded into lazy pulses, he fell forward and pulled you into his chest.
Still buried deep within you, Steve pulled the covers over your bodies. Every little movement made you squirm and your pussy clench down again, drawing small grunts from the man behind you.
“You did so good.” His hand stroked over your hair and his face nuzzled into your shoulder. “Now, rest. You deserve it.”
And with that, you let your body fall into its well-needed sleep - warm, content, and without a care for the morning.
❁ ❁ ❁
Steve woke up to the sound of his alarm. He smiled before he opened his eyes, his mind still reminiscing the night before. He felt warm and content at the thought of it. Your kiss was like nothing else.
He felt around his bed blindly after turning off the alarm only to be met by a cold mattress. Opening his eyes, he called out your name and sat up in bed. But when no answer sounded from his apartment, he got up and looked for you. After a few minutes of searching, he was sure you weren’t there. And it worried him. He had planned to order you breakfast. He wanted to talk about last night. He wanted to tell you how much it had meant to him.
A look at the clock on his wall made him frown. Maybe you’d gone home to change for work. He decided to wait and get to work a little later today. It would all resolve itself, Steve was sure.
But when seven rolled around, there was no sign of you. And even after another 25 minutes, there was no indication you’d show up soon. Steve really couldn’t push his time anymore. There was a lot of work waiting for him at the office. So he got up and grabbed his briefcase, only to be interrupted by his phone.
“Good morning, Sharon.”
“Good morning, Mr. Rogers. I’m just calling to let you know your maid just called in sick.”
“What? Until when?”
“She didn’t say. But she’ll call when she is better.”
“Do you know what she has?”
“I believe that’s private. Mr. Rogers.”
Steve just hummed absentmindedly. His brain already playing all the possibilities in his head.
“Would you be so kind so send me her number?” He asked almost hesitantly, but still demanding enough for Sharon to agree right away.
“Of course, one second.” And then his phone pinged with a message from his assistant.
“Thank you.” Sharon just hummed in response and then she hung up the phone, ever the busy assistant he knew her as.
Steve didn’t hesitate to call you right away. With every peep. His heart hammered faster in his chest. And when he was about to give up, a familiar rustling rang through his speaker.
“Hello?”
Steve took a second to breathe and then he said your name - steady but careful.
“Mr Rogers,” you sounded surprised, and Steve tried to suppress the sting in his heart at the sound of his last name. You had called him Steve just last night. Why’d you stop?
“Yes... I heard you’re sick. Do you need anything?” He cringed the second he said it. You obviously didn’t want anything from him given that you had fled from his apartment before he even woke up this morning.
“No, no. I’m good thank you.” There was an awkward tension in the static connecting the two of you. But Steve didn’t understand where it came from. Had you not enjoyed last night. Had he only imagined the affection you gifted him then?
“Well... I hope you are able to come back soon.”
You huffed into the phone. “Uh, yes. Okay.”
“Alright, then. I’ll see you.”
“I’ll see you.”
And then the line went dead. And Steve couldn’t shake the feeling that you had sounded a lot colder than before...
❁ ❁ ❁
Steve had taken the next day off. His mind was too occupied to work, anyway. He had caught himself glimpsing at his video feed several times that day, even though he knew you weren’t going to show. He guessed, somehow that you would appear anyway. It didn’t happen of course.
So today, Steve had to learn to do nothing. That included not thinking of you as well. Because as much as the thought of you distracted him from work, not working wasn’t exactly the best move to get rid of his thoughts.
First, he had tried to stay in bed until 6. That was hard enough. Then, he worked out a bit, read an article, made a smoothie - okay he ordered one - and then he sat on his sofa watching as the clock above his fireplace ticked to 7 a.m.
It was ridiculous. If every hour would pass this slowly, he’d go insane.
His fingers taped on his thigh as he watched the seconds hand tick. He had to do something, anything.
The moment this thought passed his mind, he heard the elevator door ‘ding’ at his level. And before he could even turn around, your bag hit the ground with a loud thud.
Steve stood up straighter, adjusting a tie he was not wearing, but the motion had become a habit. He was excited you’d shown up - visibly well and healthy that was.
You stared at him for a solid minute and neither of you said a word. Your stare was unintelligible to Steve. He had to admit, that he didn’t know you well enough to read into your silent conversation yet, but he wanted to - he wanted to so badly.
His hands moved to clasp in front of him and then he cleared his throat, but as he was about to say something, you moved past him, straight to the supply closet, and then disappeared into his guest bedroom.
He followed you before he could tell his feet to stop, halting in the doorway of the room and watching as you dusted off the tall shelves above the sideboard.
“What are you doing?” His voice was higher than he anticipated.
“I’m working,” you answered bluntly, moving to the next object to dust off.
“Why?” Steve had promised to provide for you just the other night. And, yes, while he might have been hazy from the incredible pleasure you had created, he had meant every word.
You suddenly turned to him with an angry stare. “I’m working because, unlike other people, I can’t just do whatever I want and not deal with the consequences,” you spat and then turned around again. The dusting motion turned a little more aggressive and Steve felt a cold shiver run down his back. Feisty.
Though, Steve couldn’t quite place your anger. Had he said something to offend you? How did the other night play into any consequences and why the hell were you working still? You’d said it yourself, you wanted to be his. And that was all he ever wanted. It just didn’t make sense.
Steve didn’t move. He just stood there like an idiot and watched you work your anger away on the poor dusty decorations of his home. You obviously didn't want to talk to him and he had no idea what to say to you. So he just watched... and watched until at least ten minutes had gone by.
You were at a completely different corner of the room by now, trying to grab a book to dust off, but couldn’t quite reach. Steve had been standing in the doorway this whole time so he just assumed he was blocking your way to a ladder. But he took it as an opportunity instead.
In three Long strides, he had walked up to you, reached for the item you stretched toward, and handed it to you. And for a second there, he could see those doe eyes return to your face, staring up at him.
Maybe he had misread the situation after all because your gaze drew him in again. He slowly closed his eyes before he could reach your lips, excitement rising in his veins when he thought back to the feeling of your lips on his–
*smack*
His eyes shot open when your hand collided with his cheek, a fire flickering in your eyes that made him take a step back, holding his heated skin.
“You don’t have to mock me, okay?! I know it’s embarrassing and it’s stupid what we did, so please don’t make this more difficult.”
“What?” Steve was baffled, hurt.
It was stupid what we did. Your words echoed in his mind until your voice penetrated the mantra.
“Just leave me alone. Don’t you have work to do?”
He shook his head with an aching heart. You really had no idea. You thought he had used you, made you a bed bunny like Tony or Bucky would - he’d never do that. “I called in sick. I was so... forget it.”
You resumed cleaning and Steve just stood in your way watching. His chest stung with every second he spent with his eyes glued to you, knowing what you thought of him. He couldn’t stand it. He never wanted to make you uncomfortable, much less convey he’d only use you.
“Can I ask you a question?” You ignored him, but he could see your movements stagger for a second. “Do you really regret what we did?”
Then you paused, your eyes trained to the surface in front of you. When you finally looked at him, Steve could see the tears shimmering in them.
“No,” you whispered softly, Steve had almost missed it had his heart not skipped a beat.
He instinctively stepped closer to you again, though cautious not to scare you away. He’d come this far and didn’t want to mess it all up again. “Then why are you ignoring me?”
“I'm not ignoring you.” It shot out of you like a bullet. You sighed, took another breath, and set the duster down. “We don’t know each other. We live in completely different worlds. There is not one scenario in which we could exist together as anything more than... this. I know that now.”
“Why not?”
“Because you’re you and I’m just the maid.” You gestured to Steve and then yourself and Steve hated the way you degraded yourself just because he had a couple dollars more in his bank account. It wasn’t right.
He shook his head, his hand reaching out to you but dropping just before he could actually touch you, curbing into a soft fist instead. “And what if I told you that you are much more to me than that?” Now he finally dared to lay his hand on your cheek, tilting your head so he could come closer to you and still stare into your eyes. “I like you. And the night– ever since you came into my life, my days seem just so much less dull.”
He smiled with shiny eyes, afraid your silence would last forever. “Please say something, Bambi.”
“You like me?” There was awe and disbelief in your voice and Steve wanted to kiss it away until every last doubt was erased from your mind. Whoever had made you this insecure about affection would eat his fist.
Steve bit his lip to hide the chuckle threatening to spill. “I do.”
He slowly got lost in your eyes again. Those beautiful innocent orbs looked at him like he was a different type of special. He loved it so much.
His gaze dropped to your lips, slightly parted and full, and then back up. And before he could lose himself in them again, your hands latched onto his collar and pulled him down toward you.
The kiss was all tongue and teeth, need and desperation melting into sighs and tingles - he could feed off of it forever. His hands roamed your body and pressed you deeper into his. Your arms reached around his neck as your noses bumped against each other in eager anticipation.
Nothing ever felt this right. Steve couldn’t possibly believe you’d doubted the chemistry for a second. Not when it felt like that. But he wouldn’t need to think back on it anymore now... now that he finally had you.
I couldn't decide which GIF to use, so here are some extras!

Love Sick Puppy
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x fem!reader
Genre: Fluff
Characters: Bucky, Y/N, Sam
Description: Y/N and Bucky have been dating for a while but Bucky still acts like a love sick puppy around her.
Tumblr media
Bucky smiled goofily at you from across the table, head resting in the palm of his hands as he leaned on his elbows. His eyes were completely blown over with love; there was no talking to him when he got like this.
Sam leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest and rolled his eyes. “Y/N, lover boy’s at it again.” You looked up from the book you were currently researching from, a small smile on your face. Getting up from your seat you walked around the table and stopped at the side of Bucky, leaning down to press a gentle kiss to his cheek.
“Bucky, baby. You’re doing it again.” He shook his eyes and widened his eyes, sitting up straight in his chair. Clearing his throat, he looked to the side of him and found your eyes staring back at him. “You really need to stop doing that, Buck. If nobody here knew us, they’d think you were a creepy stalker or something.”
He chuckled and brought your hand up to his lips, placing a gentle kiss on each knuckle. “I can’t help it doll, you’re just so beautiful.” “Oh please.” Bucky snapped his head towards Sam, his eyes glowering at him. “Got something to say, Wilson?”
Sam leaned forward, narrowing his eyes. “Yeah, I got something to say, Barnes. You need to cut that shit out. It’s really unnerving and gross to watch.” Bucky’s hands clenched together as he fought the urge to punch Sam across the face. Noticing this, you shot Sam a warning glare and placed your hands on top of Bucky’s, instantly calming him.
“I can’t help it, Y/N. I love you so much.” Bucky looked down at his lap, clearly embarrassed.  “Hey, don’t worry about it. You look at me like that all you want. Take no notice of what jerks have to say.”
Sam threw his hands up in the air. “I’m going out. Don’t wait up.” He stormed out of the room, you chuckling at his reaction. “If I’d of known it was so easy to rile him up, I would have done it ages ago.” Bucky laughed and lifted his hand to your cheek, splaying his fingers out. “I can’t explain why I act the way I do but I do know that I love you with every single part of me, Y/N.”
You slid into his lap and wrapped your arms around his neck. “You don’t ever need to explain yourself to me, Buck. I love that you love to look at me like that. It makes me feel special. It makes me feel so happy that after all this time and all that’s happened, you were still able to find love, to find me. I love you, James Buchanan Barnes.”
He smiled widely, leaning in slowly before attaching his lips to yours and engaging in a slow, loving kiss. His other hand traveled to the small of your back, pulling you closer to him; wanting every part of you to be near him.  Your hands found their way into his hair, pulling slightly at the strands. He let out a low growl and you smiled, knowing exactly what you were doing to him.
“What do you say I show you exactly how much I love you?” Your smile widened as he stood up with you wrapping your legs around his body as he carried you to your shared bedroom.

You had dated Bucky Barnes for over a year before he asked you to move in with him. It was a big step for him as he valued his privacy and security. He also wanted to make sure you were safe in case he had any nightmares. That was a couple of months ago and you couldn't remember the last time you were this happy. Falling asleep and waking up beside him was a dream come true. And since you moved in, he hadn't slept on the floor to your knowledge.
Not once.
“You’re so fucking beautiful.”
“So are you, Bucky,” you whispered.
You traced a bit of scar tissue by his left shoulder as you gazed up at him before you brushed the hair from his eyes. He wasn't afraid for you to see his scars. At least, not anymore. In your eyes, as much as they were painful reminders of what happened to him, they were beautiful because they were his. You loved the parts of him he dared not love himself.
There’s beauty in the bleeding and you’d happily cleanse his wounds.
“Please,” you whined as his hands grazed along your bare chest. The contrast of the flesh and metal had you shivering as they moved lower and you lifted your hips, as if that would get him inside you faster. Glancing at his thick and heavy cock, you knew he wouldn’t be able to resist the need for you much longer either.
“Please, what?” he asked as he shifted forward, guiding himself to your wet entrance.
You whimpered when he pushed the tip in and froze. He undressed and teased you hours ago and you were more than pent up. In the beginning, he was almost afraid to touch you, let alone have sex with you. He told you he didn’t want to lose control. Some days, you almost wished he did. Not to hurt you, but to show that he had nothing to worry about. That you could take all of him. Every single part.
“Please, make love to me. Fuck me. Choke me. Whatever you need,” you answered unashamedly before he captured your lips in a heated kiss.
You let him explore your mouth as he buried himself to the hilt, whining when he froze again. You clutched his hair with one hand as you kissed him back in earnest, determined to let him know that he could move. Whether he was savoring the feeling of being inside you or attempting to make you go pliant under his lips and touch, you were eager for him to thrust deep and take.
You weren’t going to break.
“Please,” you whispered again as he pulled away, your gaze as steady as his.
“You really want me to fuck you?” he asked as he began to move, making you gasp at the slow pace he set. “Choke you?”
You bit your lip when he pulled out and slid back in. The uncertainty in his eyes rendered you speechless because you didn’t want to push him to do anything he was uncomfortable with. Choking wasn’t on his firm “no” list, but you still hadn’t tried it. Boundaries, safe words, communication, those things were important.
“You don’t have to,” you assured him as he rested his left hand on your neck. Just the weight of the metal against your skin had you clenching around him, your cunt telling him everything he needed to know. “But I can take it if you want to.”
“You can take it?” he asked, pleasure swirling in your stomach as he drove into you faster. He didn’t squeeze yet, but your heart pounded in anticipation. “You trust me?”
You trusted him with your life. You had since the moment you met, even when he said you had no reason to. The man wasn’t a villain in your eyes and never would be. Your unwavering faith in him brought the two of you closer together. And his care helped keep you by his side.
“I can take you,” you smiled when your hand went over his, hoping to give him the encouragement to try when you gave it two taps. “I trust you.”
"Trust that I won't hurt you?" he pressed, like he needed the extra assurance.
"You would never hurt me."
You writhed underneath him the second his fingers tightened around your throat. A ghost of a smile touched his handsome face before his hand squeezed a little bit more. You raised your hips with a wicked grin when you raked your nails down his right arm. The guttural moan he let out almost made you do it again before he took your hand and slammed it above your head.
He was no longer smiling.
“I’m sorry,” you said immediately, thinking you hurt or upset him. Because there was no playful smirk on his face like he had the few times he pinned you down. The last thing you wanted to do was inflict more pain. After everything he had been through, he didn't deserve more.
Especially not from you.
But he didn’t slow his hips, the drag of his cock along your walls making you moan despite your worry. His thrusts became almost mechanical, the harsh sound of slapping skin filling the room as he gripped your neck a bit more. It was different from the way he normally took you, like his mission was to ruin you.
It felt good.
“A little tight,” you tried to tease, but he didn’t speak.
It was then that you noticed a shift in his blue eyes. It was almost as if they had gone blank. Was something wrong? Was he even seeing you?
“Bucky?” you gasped, your heart pounding at his cold expression when he practically snarled. Why would the sound of his own name upset him? You could’ve tapped his hand three times to give him the signal to stop, but your finger refused to move as a thought entered your mind. No. It couldn’t be. “…Soldat?”
He answered with a punctuating thrust. Your mouth fell open and tried to process what exactly was happening. No way would Bucky joke about that, but it wasn’t possible. "B-But. You're gone,” you said. The programming and conditioning were eliminated in Wakanda.
He brought his face an inch from yours, close enough to feel his hot breath at his words. “I never left.”
You couldn’t speak because of how brutal the next thrust was, punching the little air you had left out of your lungs. Your toes curled as the mattress rocked underneath you, one hand still pinned above your head. The Winter Soldier had his cock in you. It was him.
How was that even possible?
Maybe this was the reason Bucky tried to be so careful, but was he even aware? Where did he go? You lifted your finger to tap his hand, but your pussy clamped harder around him and spurred him on.
“Been waiting for this,” he grunted, bringing his mouth to your ear. "He can’t fuck you the way you need, but I can."
You should’ve been terrified, but this was still the man you loved, right? Bucky had to be in there somewhere. You swore you’d trust and accept every part of him. But you couldn’t even think straight at the moment.
Because it felt so fucking good.
“Can feel how desperate you are for me,” he said as tears sprang to your eyes. “Keep sucking my cock back in. Knew I’d fuck you better.”
You wanted to yell that he was wrong, but all you did was moan. After all, weren’t you the one who asked him to lose control? Promised that you could take everything he could give you?
God, was this your fault?
”He’s scared. Scared of me,” he told you, nipping your earlobe before he snapped his hips. You couldn’t even feel the sting. “But he can’t stop me from taking what’s ours, angelochek."
He pulled back to stare at you with those cold eyes and you were helpless to do anything but lay there beneath him. How many people saw that look before they died? Would he kill you?
Bucky loves you, but what about the Soldat?
You trembled, barely registering the squelching sound of your cunt as he drove faster into your willing body. You didn’t stop him, unsure if you even wanted to. Desire, apparently, didn’t need oxygen.
Air.
You couldn’t breathe.
"I-I can't," you gasped as colors swirled in front of your eyes.
He growled, burying himself to the hilt again and again. "You breathe when you come."
If you closed your eyes, you could imagine it was your Bucky fucking you within an inch of your life. But you didn’t allow them to slip shut. You did, however, allow yourself to slip away. You were close.
To your last breath or a powerful orgasm.
”You have to earn it. It’s all about reward. Pain brings life,” he said, his voice gravel when the knot tightened in your core. “I can give you that."
I love you, Bucky.
Just before you thought you’d pass out, the deep voice of the Winter Soldier said a word in Russian. The coil within you snapped and your body shuddered from your release. Your wetness seeped around his cock as his metal hand fell away, allowing you to greedily inhale as the blood rushed back to your head. Your lungs burned and you almost couldn’t feel the rest of your body from how lightheaded you were.
But you felt everything when he came inside you with a groan.
You nearly sobbed with relief when he collapsed on top of you and let go of your wrist, your body spent as you finally let your eyes close. The kaleidoscope of colors were still there as you panted and tried to block out the roaring sound in your ears. It stopped when you felt the familiar scruff softly nuzzle your neck to soothe your shaking body.
The way Bucky always did when you came back to yourself.
"Shh."
The metal hand along your side brought warmth back to you when you thought you went cold. Touch was important to you after sex to both of you, but you didn't know who he was right now. You craved the comfort nonetheless because it was him at his core.
The man you swore you'd stand by no matter what.
“Told you you’d breathe when you come and you did for me," he said, a touch of triumph in his eyes when he lifted his head. "You think you’re his, but you belong to me, too."
Another tremor ripped through your body. The Winter Soldier was still there after all. And he was right. It wasn’t one of your regular orgasms either. It was like an out of body experience. How did he do that? Did Bucky feel it, too? Did he fight to get out of his own mind to get back to you?
You weren't sure how to even approach the inevitable conversation of what happened and where to go from here.
“Where?” you coughed a little as your eyes opened slightly. “Where is he?”
“You’re a very deep sleeper, angelochek. Makes it easy to visit you,” he said, ignoring your question as he peppered kisses along your throat. His words made your blood run cold. “Because he sees you in the light while I see you in the dark.”
Your eyes felt heavy again before he reached for the water on the nightstand and made you drink. "W-What?" you asked.
What the hell did that mean?
Did the Soldat take over Bucky’s body around you before? No, surely you would’ve remembered. But he said you were a deep sleeper, which is true. How many times has he visited you and you not know about it?
Better yet, what exactly did he do while you were sleeping?
"You told him you'd love every part of him. That means you love me, too,” he reminded you, his lips brushing against yours as you allowed exhaustion to take over. “So rest while you can because we're just getting started."

Hi, can I make a request about Yandere Bucky when he is your therapist and after you tell all your shit he falls in love with you (I would like to have a little jealousy from him for the boys you are with)
Love your work <3
Yandere Therapist!Bucky
Tumblr media
This was a very interesting one to write. I’m really starting to love writing AU’s of both Bucky and Klaus
Tumblr media
Bucky knew very quickly that he was in love with you.
You sought out a therapist when you started having panic attacks more frequently and you met with 3 before walking into James Barnes office. He was polite, gentle and understanding in a way you had never experienced from any man in your life up to that point and that’s why you decided to come back again, and again, eventually deciding to meet with him once a week.
He was a very kind man. You talked about things with him that you had never told anyone before and he understood that, you appreciated how he would ask a question and change the subject to something lighter when you became overwhelmed, making a note to circle back to it later, never wanting you to become too upset but also pushing you just enough to begin making progress with your mental health.
You looked forward to your time with James, who had insisted on your third visit that you just call him Bucky. He made you so comfortable that you felt like you were talking to a friend and when you expressed that he told you that’s exactly what he wanted, for you to feel comfortable and safe in his office to discuss the painful experiences in your life, of which there were many.
Bucky however, by the end of your first session, he had fallen head over heels in love with you. He ensured you would be coming back to see him, it didn’t feel like work to talk to you, and he wanted to know everything there was to know about you. He could admit to himself he had become a bit obsessed…completely obsessed.
After your third session he made sure he had no other clients that evening and he hopped into his car, following you home to find out where it was you lived with the man you called your boyfriend.
Bucky hated Max.
Max was a physically and emotionally abusive asshole that you couldn’t find your way out from under. He had manipulated you into complete dependency on him and Bucky didn’t just hate him, he was Jealous. He wanted you to look at him like that, as the man to provide for you, as the man to take care of you, as the man for you to love with your whole heart.
He hated every man you had ever spoken with him about. When you and Bucky had started getting into talking about your sex life his jealousy got infinitely worse. He loved how honest you were with him, trusting him with your experiences and fantasies, even trusting him with your painful and scary experiences which he hated that you had been forced to live through. He decided he would make sure that you would never suffer again.
James Barnes was going to be your lover, your boyfriend, your Daddy. He was going to be your everything and you would love every minute of it.
‘I know that it’s scary for you Doll, but this relationship as you’ve described it to me isn’t healthy. You’ve told me about his abuse and his explosive rage, you’re not safe in his house, it’s not a home for you. Men are supposed to be gentle and caring with their women, that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun in the bedroom however you want but a man should never put their hand on you in anger.’ James explained, placing his notebook down and standing up. ‘May I?’ He asked and you nodded, moving over so that he could sit beside you on the couch. ‘I want you to let me hold you, you need to experience what kind touches from a man are like. I think if you feel them, then you’ll understand a bit better how important they are. If that’s okay, of course. I would never do anything you were uncomfortable with.’
‘I…yeah, it’s okay, um…how do…?’ He smiled at your awkward feelings, holding his arms out.
‘Come here Doll, let me hold you.’ Y/n moved closer to his side, leaning into his chest and sighing as his arms wrapped around her.
‘Now what?’
‘Just enjoy it. Hold on.’ Bucky lifted her up and moved to lay himself back against the couch so she was laying on his chest and he held her firmly, pressing his lips to her forehead. ‘There you go beautiful girl, you’re safe. No one is going to hurt you. I’ll keep you safe.’ His fingers brushed through her soft hair as he fought with his cock in his mind to not get excited no matter how desperate he was to have you ride him like this. It was only about 30 seconds of cuddling before he felt her sobbing into his chest and he immediately held her tighter, rubbing her back and kissing her head. ‘I know. It’s okay Darlin, this is how it’s supposed to feel. You’re supposed to feel safe with your man.’
‘I’ve never felt safe like this…wish I had met you somewhere else.’ She teased and he chuckled along but he knew it didn’t matter where or when they had met, because Y/n was going to be his now.
Bucky kept that up as he began seeing her twice a week, every session went like that from then on. He would spend 30 minutes talking to her before moving to sit beside her and hold her to his chest once again and she never once complained, often being quite unhappy when the hour was up and it was time to go home. He loved that.
A session later he began kissing her head, then her cheek and the week after that he pressed their lips together quickly before ending that session and she was red as a tomato. He loved how sweet and innocent she was even after all of the pain she’s suffered. In their next session he found her burying her face into his neck, nuzzling as close as she could and he tested the waters a bit brushing his hand slowly from her lower back to her butt, caressing her ass gently but she never made any indication she was upset by it. He moved himself a bit and made it seem natural before bending his leg up between hers so his thigh was pressed right against her pussy. She whimpered in his ear as she fidgeted and he enjoyed her reactions quite a bit, trying to suppress his cock as it responded to her hot breath against his neck. He didn’t move again, just allowing her to be comfortable with him touching her like this no matter how difficult it was.
It was that next session that he broke her.
He had maneuvered her into the same position as 3 days ago, face in his neck, straddling his thigh before he pressed his leg more firmly into her, hearing her loud moan though she tried to muffle it. ‘Oh god! I’m sorry, I-‘
‘No, no sorries. Just relax pretty girl.’ He moved the same way once again and her hips rutted down against him as her fingers tightened into his shirt. ‘There you go. Feels good, doesn’t it?’ Y/n nodded into his neck as her body continued moving, grinding down on his leg until she was riding it like a desperate whore and Bucky was living for it. He was in heaven as his girl moved herself on him in ways he only imagined before. ‘That’s it, keep going. Use me Doll, make that pretty pussy feel good, you deserve to feel so good.’ One of his hands held her ass while the other trailed up the back of her shirt to touch her soft skin for the first time. ‘He doesn’t do this for you, does he? Does he make your cunt drip all over him?’ She shook her head frantically, so high on her pleasure he didn’t think anything could shake her out of it right now. ‘Dumbass doesn’t deserve such a pretty pussy, or such a wonderful girl. A good man would never treat you like that.’ He said it in such a way that he knew she would equate that good man to him, she was already half in love with him before, he hoped to push her over the edge today by literally pushing her over the edge. ‘Such a good girl.’ The moan that came out of her mouth was possibly the most desperate and needy sound he had ever heard, coupled with the sound of a sob and he quickly began moving his leg to help her finish faster. ‘It’s okay, just let it out, you cry if you need to precious. You’re a good girl, no matter what that idiot says. You’re so fucking good! No such thing as too needy with a good Daddy, I’m here. You’re safe baby, just…let go. Let go for Daddy.’
‘Oh God!’ She screamed, crying out in completion and desperation as she held tighter to his body. He held her to him and brushed through her hair gently as she came down from her intense orgasm and she was cuddled so close he believed she wanted to become one with his body. It was at that moment that the timer went off, letting him know that their hour was up and he slammed his hand against it to shut it up. ‘Shit!’
‘Don’t worry Y/n, it’s okay. I don’t have another client, just relax for a few minutes and-‘ she pushed herself off of him and quickly jumped up.
‘Im sorry, I should have done that! Oh God! I just assaulted you! I’m sorry, I’m so sorry!’ She was frantic, moving to grab her bag as Bucky jumped up after her. ‘Don’t try and tell me it’s okay, that wasn’t okay! I’m a horrible person! You should never want to see me again-‘
‘And yet, I do. Relax Y/n, don’t you think if I didn’t want you to, I would have pushed you off? I’m plenty strong enough-‘
‘You felt sorry for me! Because of course you do! I’m so desperate for some affection that I just jumped my therapist, it’s fucking pathetic! I’m so-‘
‘If you say “sorry” one more time I’m going to take you ever my knee.’ He warned and she just whined, moving for the door. ‘Y/n!’ He caught her arm as she moved out the door and she wouldn’t look at him. ‘Please tell me you’re coming back? You’re scheduled for Tuesday and Friday, just please? Please come back?’ She hesitantly nodded before rushing out the door and leaving him to kick himself for pushing you too hard. He needs to get her back.
Tuesday came and went, she didn’t show up for the appointment and Bucky was worried. He drove passed her apartment and didn’t see any lights on, waiting there for a few hours but not once was there any movement. He called your cell and left a message for you, continuing to look for you after work Wednesday and Thursday just needing to see that you were alright.
When Friday came he was preparing to finish early that day since he assumed you weren’t coming until he heard the soft knock on his door, opening it to see you standing there with your hair covering your face which was odd, it was usually upon a ponytail or at least pinned away from your eyes. ‘Hey. I was getting worried about you, you didn’t call me back, I thought you were gonna skip out on me again.’ He moved and led her to the couch after shutting the door and sitting beside her. ‘Y/n? What’s wrong?’ Bucky moved to tuck her hair behind her ear and saw the purple color on her eye prompting him to tilt her head up. She had bruises around both of her eyes, her jaw was bruised and it looked a lot like finger shaped bruises, along with a split lip in 2 places. ‘Did he do this?’
Y/n nodded. ‘I’m sorry I didn’t call you. I…I tried to break up with him on Monday and this happened. I fell down the stairs and ended up in the ER, I stayed with my friend after that. My voice was messed up cause of the bruises on my throat, I didn’t want you to be subjected to that over the phone.’ She teased but his face let her know that he didn’t find it funny before he pulled her into his arms firmly.
‘Don’t you joke about this, this isn’t amusing to me. He could have killed you, I-I could have lost you!’ Bucky knew if there was ever a time to get to her it was now, she was already in love with him, this was the perfect moment to give her that final push. He pulled her onto his lap gently, not knowing where she was bruised and not willing to cause her harm before turning her head and pressing his lips to hers gently, not wanting to harm her split lip. She gasped against him but relaxed none the less into his body and into the kiss. ‘Please tell me you’re done with him? You can come and stay with me, I’ll take care of you! I can’t live without you anymore Princess, I just can’t!’
‘You’re my therapist, I can’t move in with you. That’s all kinds of illegal, you could get in so much trouble-‘
‘I stopped being your therapist the first time we cuddled in your session. I care about you so much Y/n, I can’t spend another minute without you in my arms. Please?’ His hand trailed up her back under her shirt as he kissed her neck over the bruises which he knew she loved.
‘Daddy…’ she whimpered, needy and desperate before Bucky couldn’t hold it in anymore. He spun them around so he pinned her to the couch, wrapping her legs around his waist, Y/n’s hands buried in his hair while his hips ground down against hers, letting her feel his hard cock pressed against her for the first time.
‘That’s right Princess, I’m your Daddy now, and you’re fucking mine!’ He couldn’t control the growl in his voice as he felt her sweet pussy pressed against him through their clothes, desperate to feel her warmth wrapped around him.
‘Oh God, I-‘ He cut her off with his hand around her throat.
‘Mine! You’re done with that fucking idiot, Daddies gonna take care of you now. Starting with taking you home and fucking this little cunt I’ve been desperate for since you sat on this couch your first day! Are you gonna be Daddies good girl?’ She nodded quickly, holding tightly to him, clearly needy for him now. Bucky knew that he wanted more than anything to fuck her in his office, however he also knew that once he felt her he would never pull his cock out of her again, he would be fucking her all night. He needed to get her home so that he could have his way with her and he knew she would do anything he asked of her right now. ‘Good.’ He yanked her up to her feet before bending down and hoisting her over his shoulder causing her to squeal before he slapped his metal hand painfully against her ass. ‘Let’s get you in the car. Daddy needs to feel your hot mouth around my cock.’
Her responding moan was all he needed. Y/n was his now and no one would take her from him, even if he needed to kill that punk asshole to ensure it.

Bucky was deep in thought as he sat at the bar, his hands slowly turning the glass in his hands as he thought about what to do. He wasn't sure how long he had been here already, but it felt like time had slowed down since he sat down to think.
He felt like he was in grade school all over again. Uncertain of how to tell his crush how he feels, so instead he just leaves them secret notes and candy.
But he wasn't a child anymore, and you weren't just a crush. He had never felt anything so deep and real for anyone before. And he had never found something so hard as he did confessing to you.
It was supposed to be easy, show up at your doorstep with flowers. Allow them to lead into a natural confession. But the second you opened your door, and your eyes cast over the flowers, causing a look of surprise over your face, he panicked.
"These were in front of your door." He said suddenly, feeling all courage he thought he had dissipate.
"Oh really?" You asked with growing curiosity as you took them. "I wonder if they were left at the wrong door."
Bucky felt disappointment and anger at himself wash over him as he held back on saying they were definitely for you.
That had happened months ago. And ever since then, it had become habit for him to hide how he felt. The coffees and flowers left to you randomly at work were thought of as kind gestures of a stranger.
When in reality it was Bucky. Showing his feelings for you the only way it seemed he could. Secretly.
He admired you from afar, adored you really. But was your friend up close, showing no real evidence of how he felt, or so he thought, and hoped.
Bucky thought it was fine, it could become the normal, it had become the normal. Until yesterday, when he overhead another agent talking to you, flirting shamelessly.
And then the man had the audacity to take credit for the flowers and the coffees, everything Bucky had done for you. This ass-hat had swooped in taken all the credit, trying to sweep you off your feet.
It infuriated Bucky, but he held back, not wanting to make a scene, or throw the man through a window.
So here he was, trying to find what courage he could through the anger to tell you once and for all how he felt about you.
Downing the last of his drink, Bucky slapped some money down and left, determination anchored in his heart as he made his way towards your apartment.
--- --- ---
As you pulled open your door, your heart leapt in you chest as you saw Bucky standing at your doorstep. You always felt that same wave of nervousness and butterflies when you saw him, even though you had known him, and been friends for years.
Your eyes cast down to his hands and you felt your chest clench. Flowers. Were they for you? Were they from him? Were they left at your doorstep again? Were they from the agent from work?
Out of all of those options, you hoped they would be from Bucky. Just like you had hoped they were the first time.
"Bucky, hi!" You greeted with a bright smile. "Come in!"
He smiled, but you could tell something was off, he seemed nervous, and that only added to your own anxieties.
As he stepped into your apartment he cleared his throat, handing you the flowers that had been in his hands, you noticed his knuckles were white as he gripped them before letting go.
"These are for you."
"Oh-" You hesitated for a moment "Were they left at the door step again?"
The first time this happened, when Bucky told you the flowers were left at your doorstep you were disappointed. But something told you they had really been from him. Maybe it was just you being hopeful.
Bucky shook his head and spoke, his voice softer than you had been expecting. "No, they're from me."
He saw your eyes widen as your face brightened up and he felt a wave of relief and triumph wash over him.
"Thank you, but- what are they for?" You asked cautiously, yet curious.
A thousand thoughts seemed to cross Bucky's mind in the span of a second as he froze, before he cleared his throat and scratched the back of his neck.
"They- uh, there-" he sighed before laughing dryly "I used to be better at this."
You smiled "Better at what Buck?"
He met your eyes and saw nothing but your familiar kindness, and a hint of encouragement, even eagerness.
"Confessing."
You felt as thought your heart stopped as your breath hitched in your throat.
Bucky continued before you could respond. "Those flowers from a few months ago, they weren't left on your doorstep, I got those for you too, I just...panicked"
You repressed a giggle "You...panicked?"
"I know." He laughed softly. "I don't know I just- I was afraid you wouldn't feel the same, and that it would ruin what friendship we had. So I kept it to myself. I left you coffees and flowers at your desk after that" he saw your face turn to realization "And yesterday I heard that douc- that guy tell you he did it, and it pissed me off. But I realized it was my fault, for not having told you earlier. So I decided to tell you. Because- because I'm tired of hiding how I feel about you. I care about you much more than I have anyone in my life. And I don't want to lose you or any chance I might have of being with you. "
He watched you closely as you looked down at the flowers, watching as a smile slowly spread across your face. "I knew he didn't leave them for me. He made it so obvious he was lying." You looked up and met Bucky's eyes "And honestly, I had a feeling it might have been you, but I was too afraid to get my hopes up. Because I feel the same about you Bucky, everything you said, I feel it too."
You saw a wave of relief and happiness cross his face as you spoke. Suddenly he stepped closer, reaching up and gently touching your cheek as he smiled. "I wasted quite a bit of time, didn't I?"
You shrugged as your grin widened "Nothing you can't make up for."
xx
Sorry it ended so abruptly, I literally could not get anything else out of my brain lol

Break Free - Bucky Barnes x f!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You were an infiltrated nurse working for HYDRA and takes care of Bucky Barnes, who's still triggered and being used as The Winter Soldier.
Warnings: blood and some kind of violence

You watched as they brought the Winter Soldier into the briefing room after a long battle of something you were yet to find out about. As a HYDRA’S nurse, you learned to not give fully attention to what actually happened inside the department, but it's not like you actually would. You just wouldn’t be able to talk about that with anyone else as much as you wanted to. He sat on a chair, all sweaty and still panting. He was shirtless, and you could see his chest going up and down with the rhythm of his heart beating.
He was bruised, his left brow was split open, and he had many cuts from what appeared to be from a knife all over his arms and his chest. Alexander Pierce asked for the mission report, but Barnes could barely stand, he had trouble breathing after all. Standing in a corner, you could see his blue eyes were darker and carried something else rather than rage, maybe it was remorse or pain, but you couldn’t tell.
Pierce snapped his face with a sharp slap, and the Winter Soldier kept his head low. “Mission report, Barnes”, he said, his voice was louder, but the man stood still and didn’t say a word.
“The target ran away”, James responded under his breath. He wasn’t panting anymore after a few long minutes, but he had blood running down his face and his neck, along with the fresh cuts from the knife. Alexander let out a scoff and gripped his face aggressively, making him look at his eyes. His hand has a tight grip on his chin, which made Barnes groan over the angriness.
“If you don't do your part, I can't do mine, and HYDRA can't give the world the freedom it deserves. Your work has been a gift to mankind. You shaped the century, and I need you to do it one more time”, the man said.
As soon as he dropped James’ head, the Winter Soldier kept his gaze at an empty space. You knew what he used to do every time he went back from a mission, but in the back of your mind you had some sort of compassion for him. You knew the man in front of you was being controlled by the organization you most feared, but being there to gather as much information as you could might end up helping Barnes somehow.
You just had no idea how you could swallow everything you’ve seen inside that building without regretting that, but maybe it’s the fact that taking down HYDRA would be the most important step for you at the moment.
Pierce demanded them to prep him, but he was out of cryo-freeze for too long. “Then wipe him and start over”. God, that was hard to watch, you’ve seen that before. He just loses his memories from the day once again. As the scientists place a teeth shield in his mouth, they begin the process of wiping his brain as he screams in pain. The sound is terrifying, and try to keep yourself stable for the next part.
You’re in an ER as you wait for James to show up and finally patch him and give him stitches. The man looks miserable, paler than you’ve ever noticed, his hands are still shaking, and his chest is compressed for trying to hold back the pain from the brain machine.
He sits on a stretcher as you prepare to clean his cuts, and you finally look at him in the eyes. They look a mixture of foggy, confusion, pain and anger. Bringing your hand close to his face, Barnes holds tight on your wrist with his metal arm.
“I don’t really need that”, he said. He always speaks with a lower tone, and you can barely hear what he says. You almost let out a scoff, but you’re too intimidated by him, he always has a killer look, and you didn’t want to be his next victim.
“You’re a super soldier, but you’re gonna bleed out if I don’t give you those stitches”, you respond. You carefully place a wet cotton on his brow, and he doesn’t flinch or make any noise, but you kind of understand how he manages to not feel the pain since he’s too used to that. Being too closed to him makes you wonder how that happened to him, because you never really learned about his life or his past, what he used to do and how he ended up there. You only knew about Steve Rogers, but mostly because he was already famous.
With his eyes closed, you can see his expression changes a little with your warm touch, but it could also be because that brings him some kind of comfort. You patch him and start taking care of the superficial cuts on his arms, learning that every inch of his body carries some scars, either they’re deep or small, they’re still there. As soon as you finish everything, you take your gloves off and throw everything in the trash. Behind you, Barnes stands up feeling some sort of dizziness, and you hold him still, making him sit back again on the stretcher.
“You may wanna lie down here and get some rest, your head is still sensitive from the wiping”, you watch him groan and get rid of your touch, but doesn’t complain. James closes his eyes and tries to rest his head on the pillow, but finds it too hard to actually keep his cool as his brain is confused.
“I don’t want to rest”, he whispers. As a nurse, you have the right to give him some medicine for the pain, but you opt to actually make him sleep only for the night. He should be fine, you thought. Pierce and the STRIKE guys wouldn’t show up until the next day.
It was still the middle of the night when Barnes woke up, still feeling his head a bit heavy and his body aching. His temples were pounding, and he found it hard to get his body up from the stretcher, even though he was given painkillers. Funny, a super soldier getting pills for the pain, huh? He went to the bathroom and decided to wash his face, taking a look at himself in the mirror.
The Winter Soldier realized he wasn’t looking his very best in a long time, but that was the third time he had his memory wiped in less than two weeks, and sometimes just couldn’t handle how much it actually hurt.  He had no idea what had happened before he lost his memory, he had trouble trying to gather everything inside his head, but he could remember the delicate touch while being taken care of before blacking out.
He realized it was one of the few times he was actually being treated nicely, but then it hit him that it had been a long time since he wasn’t his James self. He knew he wasn’t like that. He knew he was triggered but had no idea how they did that, he only knew it was difficult for him to understand what made him that way, and when he was self-conscious, Barnes also knew he didn’t like that about him.
As soon as he came to his senses after waking up, James gathered his gun and knives and left the building. He went out looking for the target Pierce made sure he wanted out of the picture as soon as possible, and he couldn’t wait to take them down and end the mission before having his mind wiped out once again.
He was sitting at a café next to the apartment lot he learned it was of his victim, where they should be awake soon. Leaned against the chair on a table, the man was hiding his metal arm on a hoodie trying to disguise himself, but the look on his face didn’t give much appreciation to the waiter that came near him to offer him the menu, which he denied.
Not long after he got there, the woman left her place wearing common jeans and a shirt, carrying a purse where she would look for her badge from work. The Winter Soldier left the café and walked towards her, not looking both sides when he crossed the street as fast as he could.
Passing by an alley, he took the chance to drag her to a corner, covering her mouth with his flesh hand, while with the metal hand he made sure she wouldn’t let go of him. Even if she tried, he had a tight grip.  You’ve had many self-defense classes over the last year, but nothing prepared you to actually be assaulted at daylight next to your house, which left you feeling hopeless as you didn’t have any moves in mind at the moment.
The man held a knife next to your face but didn’t say a word, until you decided to try and knock your head back on his. You heard a loud thud and figured out he hit his head on the wall, falling on the floor, unconscious, behind you. Not only weren’t you prepared for being harassed, but you also weren’t prepared when you turned around and saw James still blacked out.
“Barnes?”, you asked under your breath as your hands started shaking. You felt like you were spinning around and still had trouble figuring a way out of that. “Ok, ok. Shit, okay”, you tried to keep calm, but you felt like you were numb, your skin was pinching and your stomach was sinking inside your body.
You kneeled next to him and cupped his face, trying to wake up him. Did you kill the Winter Soldier, banging his head on a wall? Was that all that needed? If you actually killed him, what the fuck would HYDRA do to you? What if that was actually planned, and he knew what he was doing? After several minutes, you decided to use your taser on him, only enough to make him wake up. James suddenly opened his eyes and let out a loud gasp as he tried to catch his breath. He looked beyond confused, his eyes were searching for some sense, and he acted terrified.
“Hey, James. Hey, it’s me. It’s (Y/N)”, you tried to calm him, but he was still panting and couldn’t actually understand what was happening.
“Where the hell am I?”, he asked. When he finally looked at you for an actual answer, you realized it wasn’t the Winter Soldier talking to you. You just weren’t sure what just happened and how you would deal with him.

A Terrible Accident ~ Part 2
A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
< previous part
Word Count: 1,765ish
Summary: The almost immediate aftermath of the terrible accident.
Warnings: talk of rape, abuse, trauma
Notes: Sorry that it's taken so long for this part to come out! I'm actually really scared of what people will think of this part... please be nice...
Due to having to move you, the doctor gave you medication so that you could sleep. Tony and Pepper didn’t leave your side as you were moved to the medical wing of the compound. Some of the other team members caught sight of you being pushed into the medical wing and rushed over.
“What happened?” Natasha asked, her eyes scanning you in horror.
“Sexual assault,” Pepper responded.
“What?” Steve asked. “Who could have done this and when? She was supposed to be with—“
“Boss,” FRIDAY interrupted, “I have the results you asked for.”
“I want the name of the bastard who did this now,” Tony ordered.
“I suggest that you read the results in the other room.”
“Tell me the results now FRIDAY.”
“Are you sure, Boss? I still think—“
“Now FRIDAY!”
FRIDAY was silent for a moment. “The test results came up with Sargent James Buchanan Barnes as the assailant.”
Gasps and murmurs of unbelievable filled the room.
“Impossible,” Steve whispered, shaking his head. “Bucky would never—FRIDAY, run them again.”
“Unfortunately, Captain Rogers, I have run the tests multiple times,” the AI replied. “The results were a hundred percent match every time.”
“Where is Barnes now?” Tony growled.
“He is in his room.”
“Don’t let him leave. And send a suit up there, just in case.” Tony stormed out with Steve and Sam on his tail.
“Tony, there’s got to be a reasonable explanation,” Steve tried to reason.
“A reasonable explanation for that?! Did you truly see her, Rogers?! Barnes put her in a hospital bed! He raped her!”
“I don’t believe that Bucky would really do that.”
“Steve, but Bucky did,” Sam tried. “Yes, we shouldn’t go in there guns a blazing, but Bucky was the one to put her in that hospital bed.”
“Bucky loves Y/N! He would never—“
“I did it.”
Bucky’s broken voice cut off Steve. The men’s heads snapped in Bucky’s direction. They noted the blood on him.
“I hurt her.” Tears slipped down his face. “It was me.”
“FRIDAY, call for reinforcements,” Tony ordered.
“There’s no need for that,” Steve insisted.
“Actually, there is,” Bucky admitted. “And you should call Shuri because the Winter Soldier is back.”
~~~
Your eyes opened slowly as you finally came to. Glancing around, you saw Natasha and Wanda sitting on chairs on opposite sides of your bed. You knew that you were back at the compound. Wanda’s eyes snapped to yours as she sensed you awake.
“Hey, there,” she smiled softly as she moved her chair closer. This caused Natasha to do the same. You opened your mouth to speak but Wanda quickly stopped you, “Don’t talk. There was damage done to your throat.”
You gave a small nod, grimacing.
“Are you in any pain?” Natasha asked.
You made no move to answer. Your eyes scanned the room, filling with tears at just the simple thought and action of whom you were looking for. Natasha and Wanda shared a sad look.
“Can we get you anything?” Wanda wondered.
You ignored the question, looking past them at the door. You knew you shouldn’t want Bucky’s comfort right now, but it’s all you were craving. Years ago, you had separated the Winter Soldier and Bucky. They were two different people, like Jekyll and Hyde, sharing a body but with different personalities, and different backstories. Others had a hard time separating the two, including Bucky himself, but you knew they were two different beings trapped in the same body.
“Y/N,” Natasha tried and failed to get your attention. She sighed, sharing another look with Wanda. Neither of them knew what to do or how to help you. “Do you want food?” No response. “We can turn on the tv and watch a show. What do you want to watch?”
“Nothing,” you rasped, talking though you knew you shouldn’t. You looked at Natasha, tears slipping out of your eyes. “Just… want… B—Bucky…”
“He’ll be here when he’s able,” Wanda tried to comfort, not necessarily trying to lie to you. “Now, you need to let your throat rest. If you need to say something, just signal to me and I’ll read your mind.”
You went to argue but Natasha cut you off, “She’s serious Y/N. Talking going to make the damage worse.” You looked at her with the saddest eyes Natasha believed to have ever seen. “I know you want Bucky… we’ll see what we can do.”
~~~
“You don’t need to be locked in there, Bucky,” Steve tried.
Bucky had locked himself in one of the cells in the compound’s lower levels. FRIDAY was in charge of the door and the window. Bucky had the AI black it out as soon as he had entered, making Steve angry.
“You’re right, Rogers,” Tony’s anger was clear. “He should be locked in Raft.”
“We are not locking him in Raft!” Steve argued.
Bucky was in the cell, sitting on the floor in one of the corners, with his head in his hands. He listened to them argue. Honestly, he agreed with Tony. He was a danger and should be locked in Raft. He had hurt you with his own body. Someone he had promised to take care of and keep safe.
“He raped Y/N!” Tony shouted. “He’s not getting out of a cell. Ever.”
“We don’t know what happened,” Steve was trying to give his best friend the benefit of the doubt, even after he had admitted to doing it. He knew that something else had to have happened in order for Bucky to go this far.
“When is Shuri supposed to get here?” Sam asked, trying to be the calm, neutral person in the situation.
“Within the next hour,” Tony answered.
“I think we need to focus on Y/N until Shuri gets here. Who’s up there with her right now?”
“Natasha and Wanda,” Steve responded. “One of us should probably—
“Wanda wanted me to inform you that Y/N is awake,” Vision stated as he suddenly appeared from the ceiling.
Sam jumped slightly at the suddenness of it all. “You can’t do that man!”
“My apologies.”
“How is she doing?” Steve asked.
“Wanda says that Y/N is not well… she has asked for Bucky.”
Tony scoffed. “Like I’d let him anywhere near her.”
That didn’t sit well with Steve. “If she’s asking for him, then perhaps—“
“I’m not going anywhere near her,” Bucky’s voice broke through the speakers, having heard everything from inside the cell. “Ever.”
“Bucky, please—“
“I don’t want to see her. Tell her I’m sorry… but it’s over.”
~~~
“Where is my White Wolf?” Share asked as she burst into the compound. “And why have you ruined all the work I’ve done on him?”
“I am so glad to see you, Shuri,” Steve told her with a small smile. “Bucky has locked himself in one of the detention cells on the lower level.”
“I need him in the lab.”
“Good luck getting him out of the cell. He’s not willing to get out, even if Stark allowed it.”
“Fine, I guess I will have to create a makeshift lab in your low-tech lower levels.”
“Please don’t say that in front of Stark, he’s already on edge.”
“How is Y/N?”
“Not well, in any aspect. She’s shut down and we haven’t even told her that Bucky doesn’t ever want to see her again. I’m worried.”
“I will have one of the doctors I brought take a look at her.”
“I would appreciate that very much.”
“Though, I’m afraid we can only really help her with any physical injuries not emotional or mental.”
“I understand.”
“We are going to fix this, Steve.”
“I hope so.”
~~~
“Hey, kid,” Tony greeted, leaning on the door of your room in the medical wing. You were staring out the window that allowed you to see the hallway, not giving him a response. “Have you eaten?” No response. “Where did Red and the Witch go?” Again, no response. Tony sighed as he pushed himself off the frame and headed into the room. He sat on the edge of your bed, but you continued to look past him. “We need to talk… Barnes isn’t coming to see you.” This got your attention, your eyes snapping to look at him.
“Why?” You rasped.
Tony knew how much you loved Bucky. Yes, he was currently so damn angry at the man, but Tony was prepared to be the bad guy in this case. Bucky choosing not to see you would crush you too much. “It’s too dangerous. He hurt you, Y/N. He is not allowed to be near you.”
Tears spilled freely down your face. “You can’t do this.”
“Sorry, sweetheart, it’s for your own good.”
“I hate you. I hate you! You can’t do this!” You didn’t care that your throat was burning, screaming at you to stop talking, especially as you got louder. “I need to see him, Tony! He didn’t do this!”
“But he did. Your bruises are his handprints. His DNA was found all over you. He did this.”
“No! No! It was the Soldier! They’re two different people! It wasn’t Bucky!” Your cries were turning into sobs. “It wasn’t him!”
“It was though, sweetheart, and he’s not going to be allowed to see you for a while. If ever.”
“NO! Get out! Get out!” Even with a cast on one of your wrists, you started hitting Tony. “I hate you! I hate you!”
“What’s going on in here?” Natasha asked as she rushed in.
“I want him out! Get him out!”
“I’m just trying to keep you safe, Y/N,” Tony argued, grabbing onto your thrashing arms. “It’s only because I care.”
“Come on, Tony,” Natasha said, pulling him away from you. She pulled him out into the hallway, shutting the door behind them as your sobs and shouting grew. “What did you do?”
“I told her that I’m not allowing Barnes near her.”
“I thought Bucky said that he doesn’t want to see her?” Realization dawned on Nat. “You’re taking the fall.”
“Her reaction would have been worse if she knew that Barnes didn’t want to see her ever again. I’m okay with taking the blame on this one. She can hate me, that’s okay.” They turned to glance back at the room you were in. “No matter what she believes, Barnes hurt her and I wasn’t about to let him hurt her anymore.”
“I don’t know if she’ll recover from this, Tony. I don’t think either of them will.”
Tony sighed. “Honestly… I believe you’re right.”

The Perfect Plan
Tumblr media
Bucky Barnes x Plus size!reader
Word Count: 3065 words
Warnings: a little bit of an angsty piece I’ve been working on in an attempt to kick writers block’s ass. (I imagine this set somewhere after civil war, I just liked the gif)
Summary: Bucky pulls his punches when sparring with the reader, which doesn’t exactly go as planned
—————————————————————————————————
“How do you ever expect me to get better if you keep pulling your punches?”
The words left your lips as little more than a huff as you pulled away from Bucky, that accusatory glare of yours burning into his skin.
Clearly, something was going on.
The two of you had been sparing since before the sun came up and even still, nothing had changed.
You both knew that he could easily knock you from your feet, a million times over if he wanted to, but for whatever reason, he hadn’t. He had hardly landed a single swing, and that told you one very important thing.
He was holding back.
You could feel it.
Normally when you two were sparring, trading shots and doing everything you could to get better, he gave you just about everything he had.
That was the deal.
In order for you to gain the skills necessary to be of any help to him and the rest of the team, Bucky knew that you’d have to take on people that meant you real harm. They weren’t going to look out for your safety.
They weren’t going to be careful not to hit you too hard.
That was just something that you were both going to have to deal with, whether Bucky liked it or not.
Unfortunately, that didn’t make training you any easier for the man in question. There were too many moving parts and too many things that could go wrong, especially with him.
It was complicated, Bucky was complicated, and you just didn’t seem to grasp the gravity of it all.
That, or you didn’t care, and neither of those options brought him any comfort.
“I’m not” he tried, stepping  back from you again, dropping both arms at his sides, the tone of his voice not even enough to convince him.
It wasn’t entirely his fault.
Bucky just didn’t want to hurt you, even if he knew it was all for the greater good and frankly, that didn’t seem like the worst thing in the world.
He wasn’t supposed to want to hurt you, but there was no other way.
You had told him that a million times.
Dating The Winter Soldier, as you’d chosen to do, came with risks and since you weren’t about to leave the man you loved no matter the danger, the only other way to make sure you didn’t get yourself killed would be if he helped you.
Helped you prepare and helped you learn to take care of yourself, even when he wasn’t around.
Besides, you had already proven to him that you could handle yourself, and you trusted Bucky. That was why you’d asked him to help you with this in the first place.
“No? Then why haven’t you hit me once?” you questioned, your hands falling on your hips as you surveyed him, clearly waiting for some kind of reason for his actions other than the one you both knew was the truth.
There was silence between you for a moment, a silence that filled the usually packed training room, and knocked Bucky further out of his depth.
Anything he came up with would be too clearly an excuse.
Not that saying nothing at all was much better.
“Maybe you’re just better than you’re giving yourself credit for” he eventually tried, admiring the near look of disdain on your face as you processed his answer.
It was a lie.
A piss-poor excuse for something you should have seen coming before you even agreed to any of this. Bucky loved you, and because he loved you, it was hard for him to do this for you. It was hard for him to set his mind aside, for even a moment.
It was too dangerous, even if you didn’t believe it.
“Maybe” you grumbled, shaking your hands out at your sides for a moment, forcing your attention away from the handsome face of the man you loved.
Who, in this moment, was driving you insane.
“Or, and this is just a theory, you don’t actually want me to get better” you countered, wiping a small bit of sweat from your brow. Bucky may not have been trying to accomplish anything today, but you had been giving this everything you had.
Since sun up.
Your tone once again caught Bucky off guard. You were angry, evidently, because he had made the executive decision not to use his years of experience in this area to knock you on your ass.
It didn’t make any sense.
Still, he couldn’t just let you think that he would deliberately throw your training because of something so stupid. He was under no illusions of what you were capable of, and was sure that in time, you’d be a force all your own.
It was just going to be hard for him to get you there, all alone.
“Of course I want you to get better. I just don’t want to hurt you” Bucky shrugged, actually forcing a laugh from your lungs.
On any other day, you would have understood but today, it was a problem. It was a problem because this wasn’t part of your deal.
He was supposed to be helping you.
He had agreed to help you, and if he wasn’t able to, that was fine, but he definitely should have brought it up before now.
“You agreed to help me do this” you reminded, more for yourself than him as you tried to figure this out. There had to be some kind of strategy, something you could do that would make him take this seriously.
All you had to do was take a different approach.
“What did you think we’d be doing? Holding hands? Baking cookies?” you taunted, loosely wrapping and unwrapping your hand as you spoke, just as Steve taught you to do, not even bothering to look Buck in the eye.
You loved him.
You understood that he was actively terrified of the hell that lived in his mind, constantly painting the space behind his eyes with horror, but that was exactly why he had to be the one to do this for you.
If you found yourself in danger, it would likely be due to your connection to him but even if it wasn’t, there was always the slim, albeit entirely possible, chance that it would be at his own hand.
When Bucky was out of control, when the Winter Soldier took over, there was no telling what he was capable of. You had seen it with your own two eyes, and if he even became that again, you had to be able to do something.
Even if all you could actually do was keep him from killing you.
So, with that in mind and no real idea what you were planning on doing, or what difference it would make, you swung your weight in his direction again, putting everything you had into a punch that you landed without fail in the center of his chest.
Though, again, Bucky did nothing to retaliate.
He didn’t make a move to strike, to move or even to speak. All he did was look at you, the hint of a smirk threatening to betray him the longer you put this on.
Not that he needed to be reminded, but you never ceased to amaze him with how determined you could be.
“I am helping you get better, your form is incredible” Bucky reasoned, enjoying the way your face scrunched up in annoyance as he further dug himself into whatever hole he’d been digging, his eyes scanning over you as you stood in front of him.
He was playing with you, of course.
In the beginning, it had been a real offer and it still was, in part.
If you were going to be out there with them, in the heat of combat, you needed to be prepared and he was the perfect person to make sure you were. It wasn’t his fault that watching you get flustered was a hell of a lot more fun than beating you up over and over.
The latter just wasn’t something he was willing to do, even if it was perhaps the best way for you to learn.
“Really? Because when you train with Nat, she leaves with bruises” you finally spit, choosing to ignore the clear irony of actively asking the man you loved to beat you up.
It was true.
Natasha and Bucky had regular appointments together, just like this one, except when she asked him to, he landed his hits…every time.
The reality was that the enemy, and whatever was out there,  wouldn’t go easy on you.
You had to learn to take a punch, and to land quite a few of your own in return, two things you couldn’t do without Bucky’s help.
Help that he just wasn’t giving.
“Now hold on, that isn’t fair” your partner sighed, but you didn’t give him the time to come up with some half-baked reason this time.
You weren’t some porcelain doll, constantly on the edge of shattering. You were a part of this team just like he was, and all you needed was a little help to get on the same level.
Of all people, you could have thought he’d understand that.
“Isn’t it? What’s the difference between her and me?” you kept going, your right hand falling square in the center of his chest, hard enough for that little voice in the back of your head to question if you should stop.
Not that you were going to.
This was important to you, even if it didn’t matter to him.
“Nat could handle it” he yelled back, the implication there more than enough to spur on the heat beneath your skin all over again, his hand gingerly capturing you at the wrist.
So that was what this was about.
He didn’t think you could do this, no matter how many times he assured you that you could before now.
As much as this was about Bucky being scared of his past, and the things he couldn’t control, it obviously has something to do with his opinion of you as well. Clearly, he thought that you were weak or pathetic, neither of which you were just going to accept.
It wasn’t in your nature.
“I don’t know why I thought you could help me with this. I should have asked Steve” you scoffed back, watching as his face twitched now, telling you that you’d plucked a nerve there, without even meaning to.
Good.
As much as Bucky meant to you, this wasn’t about your relationship. This wasn’t about love, and it wasn't about protecting you.
This was about you being able to protect yourself, and it was important.
“You think I’m going easy on you? Steve wouldn’t have even shown up for something like this” the raven-haired male decided, admiring you with a smug smirk.
He had you there.
Steve only really spared solo, having told you several times that he preferred to save the fighting for the real enemy. You doubted any amount of begging would get you the result you wanted, and then you’d be back here.
Dealing with Bucky, in all his brooding.
You had never known someone to be so damn stubborn, though Bucky would argue that could be rectified by looking in a mirror.
“Well, there’s gotta be somebody in this place who doesn’t think I’m weak” you prodded, your pointer finger finding purchase in the tense muscle of his pectoral.
Just to further prove your point.
“Now come on, you know that’s not what I meant. It’s just that you’re just starting, and I don’t want to push you too hard” he tried, finally backing down as much as he was willing to, when he saw the smallest twinkle of real hurt in your eyes.
This wasn’t just you getting frustrated, or trying to goad him into a fight.
You genuinely believed he thought you were weak, and that couldn’t have been farther from the truth.
He was just scared of bringing you into this, and while that wasn’t what you’d come here for, it was easier to get a rise out of you than admitting that.
“Because you think I’ll break” you inferred, taking him that step further, earning a groan from his lips, that familiar crease in his brown ridge making another appearance.
This whole thing had been fun for him, as long as he was pulling the strings but it wasn’t nearly as entertaining to have to take what he’d gotten really good at dishing out.
“Because if you do, I don’t want to be the one responsible”
It was his worst nightmare.
One that he’d had to live over and over again, all those memories, flashes of faces now replaced in his sleep with your own. Bucky wouldn’t be able to live with himself if anything ever happened to you at his hand.
He just wouldn't.
It was one thing for you to want to join the fight, but it was another one entirely for him to be the one on the other side of it.
There was silence between you for a long moment as you considered his words, and the sheer weight of them as they left his lips and met your ears.
You wanted to disagree with him, to keep pushing the envelope and argue that that was nothing more than an excuse, but deep down, you knew you couldn’t. Bucky wasn't the kind to make empty promises or weak excuses for his actions.
He never had been.
So, as much as you hated to, you nodded, letting the tense muscles in your jaw relax as you tried to decide where to go from here.
If Buck wasn’t comfortable with it, you’d have to find someone who was, which proved to be a rather daunting task given the rooster. Still, you didn’t want to push him too far, especially if this would put the man you loved in a bad place.
That was the last thing you wanted to do.
“Okay, I’ll just ask around. I’m sure someone else will help me” you shrugged, forcing a gentle smile to your face in an effort to mask the disappointment swelling in the pit of your stomach.
It wasn’t his fault.
Bucky was who he was, and he couldn’t be blamed for being afraid of what he was capable of. Maybe you could try again later, after you got a little more confident in your own abilities in combat.
After you knew what you were doing.
“I don’t want you to do that. I can do this, I just want to be careful” came Bucky’s inevitable reply as he did a fair amount of his own thinking. It had been a while since he’d been out of control, albeit not as long as he’d have liked, and it should be fine.
He just didn’t like having to rely on things probably being okay.
“I should have mentioned it earlier, I really thought I could handle it, but once I got here, it just felt different” he continued, absently taking your hand in his own as he spoke, his fingers playing at the cloth dressing your knuckles.
Hand to hand just never felt quite right to him anymore, even when it was just sparring. He always felt like he was one step away from disaster, one step away from losing what little bit of him was still him, in the first place.
“I get it” you allowed, giving his right hand a reassuring squeeze, further driving home that you weren’t upset with him, and that you didn’t blame him for trying to protect you.
You loved him, and this wasn’t going to change that.
Nothing was ever going to change that.
The two of you always made things work, and even if you didn’t do things the traditional way, you got things done your way.
…and this was no different.
Just because Bucky wasn’t comfortable physically training with you yet didn’t mean that he couldn’t help you. It just meant that you had to think about it differently, and make it work for you.
“How about we try something different? You said my form is good but I could still use help with the logistics” you explained, watching as Bucky’s face changed from one of guilt to one of subtle concentration, as he followed your words.
Of course, you hadn’t gotten to the point yet but it didn’t matter.
If there was anything he could do to help you, he’d do it, so long as he was sure he could do it while also keeping you safe.
“Yeah, your stance is solid” Bucky repeated, allowing you to lead him over to the other side of the gym like a puppy after its master, ever willing to do whatever it took to please you.
Clearly, the gears were turning in your head, all he had to do was listen.
“Thanks, but what I still need help with is all the other stuff. How much force do I put behind a punch? How do I maintain my own balance while trying to get the upper hand, especially against someone stronger or more skilled than me?” you hummed, only stopping your task once you reached your destination.
The Punching bag.
If you couldn’t actively train opposite Bucky, the next best thing would have to do. In this case, the next best thing would be sparing against the punching bag in front of you, under the watchful eye and expert guidance of your lover.
Who, based on the look that was developing on his handsome face, just realized where you were going with this.
How had he missed this?
It had been staring you both in the face this entire time, just like Steve’s refusal to fight unless he was in the face of danger, all Bucky had to do was keep his distance til he was ready.
It was the perfect plan.
You could develop your skill, and he could still help you, maintaining a comfortable distance until he was sure he could handle it.
“I’ll teach you everything and then, when we’re both ready, I’ll show you” You had never known someone to be so damn stubborn, though Bucky would argue that could be rectified by looking in a mirror.

Tumblr media
Your eyes stared over the coffee mug at him from across the room. He was stealing glances over to the kitchen in which you sat as Sam and Tony tried to convince him to meet the smoking hot yoga teacher bachelorette the two of them had found for him this week.
You felt a little bad for him, to be honest. Bucky seemed exhausted from their constant nagging. It was weird to see the two men together like this. Normally, Tony and Sam would just pass in the hallway with subtle nods. But when it came to finding a woman for Bucky, the two could be mistaken for best friends.
“Her name is Ronda and she is hot.”
“Mhm. Gives hot yoga a whole new meaning.”
“That’s right. And she’s willing to meet you!”
“Well, I’m not willing.”
“Why are you always like this, Bucky? We go out and we find you a nice girl and you decline every time.”
“Maybe he’s like this because Dr. No over here isn’t getting laid. Which is why you should go on this date.”
“I don’t need to get laid to be in a good mood, Tony.”
“We don’t know that. You’re always grumpy and you’re most certainly not getting laid. Doesn’t sound like a coincidence to me.”
“Oh, that definitely isn’t a coincidence.”
“I’m a scientist I know that stuff.”
“Yeah, he’s a scientist. Listen to him.”
“Shut up, Sam.”
But Bucky was panicking, you could see it in his eyes. He wanted to say it, that he didn’t want to go on dates because was already dating you. But you had forbidden him from doing so. It was better this way, and he had not spoken up when you suggested keeping your relationship a secret for now.
With a small smirk, you got off your chair.
“Have you two geniuses ever thought about your annoying banter being the reason for his bad mood?” You sauntered past the men with your mug still in hand, the other slightly grazing Bucky’s back on your way to the door. You could feel his muscles relax just from the small touch.
“How are we being annoying? We are literally helping him get some.”
“I don’t need to get any!”
That was the last thing you heard Bucky shout frustratedly when you entered the hallway, a small chuckle leaving your lips before you went to your room to finish the report you had yet to hand in.
-❁-
It wasn’t long before Bucky entered your room with an exhausted sigh. He leaned against the closed door when you looked up and then proceeded to approach you at your desk, where he leaned over your shoulder, arms caging you to his chest and chin nuzzling in your neck.
“They’re the worst,” he mumbled into your sweater before placing small kisses along your neck.
“I know, baby.” You stroked his arms. “For the geniuses, they claim to be, they’re really hardheaded.”
“I feel like it’s just me they’re bothering with this. For all they know, you are single too.”
Another pang went through your chest. Bucky had not been part of the team for long. And you had spared him all of the details about most members that Steve hadn’t already told him about.
There was a reason why Tony and Sam didn’t suggest eligible partners to you, and that was because you had multiple suitors amongst the team and beyond already. If you wanted to have someone, they just assumed you would get them. Not to mention the total embarrassment they had witnessed when you had rejected Pietro in front of the team during movie night. You hadn’t meant to, but he had sprung it upon you without warning, and you hadn’t wanted to lead him on.
Then there was Peter, the intern, that harbored a silly schoolboy crush on you since he had gotten his first action figure of you, and letting him down gently was harder than you had thought. Tony and Sam, especially, had gotten amusement from the frequent serenades and suggestive fan mail you received. They even suggested an “open mail + wine night” for their personal entertainment one time. And, well, you didn’t say no to wine and gossip.
But despite all this, it wasn’t the reason why you wanted to keep your relationship a secret. Bucky had been closed up from the very first time Steve introduced him to the team. It had taken two months for him to reply to simple questions such as if he wanted coffee, too. But somehow, you had the honor of being the first person he trusted after Steve. And once you had gotten to know him better, he was the sweetest person ever. Caring, funny, charming - very touchy. But you were scared this would go away once everyone started teasing him about it. So yes, it might have been to protect Bucky, but it felt more and more like personal gain to you.
“I want you to know that I don’t need Yoga Brenda, or Coffeeshop Mandy, or anyone else. I just wanna tell them that I’m already dating the most gorgeous woman they could ever find.”
“You are wonderful, do you know that?” Your head leaned against his shoulder when you felt Bucky smile into the crook of your neck. “And I guess I could deal with a little more PDA - warm the team up to it slowly.”
“Sounds like a great plan.” And with that Bucky turned your chair and pulled you up and towards the bed. “Until then,” he patted his lap once he sat down, “I demand a kiss for every time I had to vouch for us.”
You smirked before straddling him. “Oh, I’ll gladly pay up, then.”
-❁-
You knew Bucky was touchy, but now that he had permission to do so outside your rooms, it lit a whole new fire within you. You couldn’t reach the cupboard? He would press up against you with a hand on your hip and get whatever item you needed. You walked through a door? You bet he would hold that thing open until you were all the way through.
But those were just the, in his way, subtle approaches for when everyone was around. When the two of you happened to catch a quiet moment, he wouldn’t hesitate to hug and kiss you in every common area of the compound.
You didn’t mind it too much - Bucky was a great lover all around. But you were still a little nervous as to what the team’s reaction would be. You had already gotten glimpses of it. A raised brow from Natasha, who really was just surprised it had gone past her for so long. A double take from Pietro when Bucky brushed an eyelash from your face. And a knowing smile from Wanda, who to be honest, had probably known all along - your thoughts weren’t exactly subtle... or PG.
Though you had yet to see Sam or Tony react to the increase in affection Bucky gave you. It wasn’t unusual that he asked you to train or make a joke - you were friends in everyone’s eyes. But it would become obvious if he kept up the thing he was doing right now.
Bucky had just swiped some chocolate from your face in the kitchen, and when Clint had left the room, Bucky’s hand just lingered on your face. You were staring at him. And every time those eyes gazed into yours, it was hard to remember that there was a world around you.
“I like this,” Bucky smirked when his thumb grazed over your cheek. His mouth followed shortly and soon he was stealing pecks from your soft lips.
“It is very nice,” you admitted flustered from the kisses, your hands now grabbing at his shirt.
“See, it’s not so bad.”
You just hummed in response when Bucky patted your ass affectionately.
“Ahhh! What did I just see?” Sam’s eyes were wide, his head immediately snapping to Tony. You just sighed as you leaned against Bucky’s chest. It had to happen sooner or later...
“Holy smokes, Barnes. Had we known you got Miss Unattainable, we would have shut up a long time ago.” Tony whistled in acknowledgment before he approached the fridge and retrieved a water bottle.
Bucky just looked at you with a lazy smile, his hands rubbing up and down your back. It was nice not to hide anymore.
“What can I say?” He was looking into your eyes when he spoke. “She likes to keep me to herself.” And when you responded with a smile, he leaned in and kissed you shamelessly.
“Geez, get a room,” you heard Sam mumble gruffly.
But all you could do was giggle as Bucky hid his smile in the crook of your neck, his scruff tickling your skin and the weight of the secret falling from your shoulders.

I Thought I Lost You
Description: You go on a secret mission by yourself, and things go very wrong. Bucky rushes to save you, the love of his life.
Authors Note: I hope you guys enjoy this story!! I really enjoyed writing this.
Tumblr media
The moonlight shone through the window and let a silver beam of light pass through and illuminate the room. It was 2 am, but sleep seemed to be evading you. You look over at Bucky’s sleeping form next to you, as his chest rhythmically rises and falls. A feeling of sadness washes over you as you continue to watch him peacefully sleep. Tomorrow you have a secret mission that not even the other avengers know about. The mission is dangerous, and you know you may not come back from it alive, but you know you have to do it.
It was yesterday that one of the shield agents approached you. The agent had found intel relating to Bucky’s hydra days. She told you the intel contained secret information about the brainwashing Hydra had done to Bucky and how to reset him back to the window soldier if he was ever found after escaping. As soon as she told you this information, you knew what you had to do. Bucky had worked so hard to move past his winter soldier days. It would break your heart if someone was able to return him back to his assassin days. You took a deep breath and looked over at Bucky one more time before closing your eyes to try to sleep before your mission.
The morning seemed to come almost instantly. You were awoken by the sound of your alarm clock going off at 5:00am sharp. You inhaled deeply, preparing for your dangerous mission. The agent had arranged for the quinjet to be available at 6am sharp. From there, the quinjet would take you to a remote area of Siberia where the intel was being kept. You quickly got ready, grabbing all your usual guns and knives. Once you were done getting ready, you walked over to Bucky’s side of the bed and softly kissed his forehead. You knew that if this mission went wrong, you would never see him again.
At 6am, you boarded the quinjet, ready to start your mission. You briefly glanced over the mission plan as you flew to your destination. You nervously clutched the golden necklace that rested over the crevice of your breasts. You open the locket that was adorned at the bottom of the chain; inside was a picture of you and Bucky from your first mission together. Steve had taken the photo, not knowing that you and Bucky would soon fall in love and become completely inseparable. You closed the locket and let out a breath you didn’t even realize you had been holding in. “I have to do this for him,” you thought to yourself, reminding yourself of the importance of what you’re doing.
After what seemed like forever, the quinjet finally landed at its location. The quinjet door opened to the bitter Siberian landscape. Snow flew towards you as you exited the plane. You pulled out your radar and followed the beeping red dot to your destination. You were close enough to the hidden hydra base that you wouldn’t be in the snow for more than 10 minutes. As you trudged through the snow, the beeping red dot became larger, signaling you were at your destination. As you looked up from the radar, the abandoned hydra base came into view. A chill went down your spine as you wondered if this was one of the places Hydra had held bucky in. You shook the thought away and refocused. “Remember the plan, Y/N, you get into the base, find the intel, upload it to the flash drive, immediately transmit the information on the flash drive to SHIELD, then get out of the base as soon as possible.” You ran the plan through your head, making sure you knew every step. With a deep breath, you walked into the Hydra base, beginning your mission. You found the intel in record time, completing the transfer onto the flash drive very quickly. It was easy… almost too easy. As you completed the last step of the plan and began transmitting the information to SHIELD. You heard the door to the base slowly open. Your heart sank to your stomach as you prayed the transfer would be completed quick enough for you to get out. “The base was supposed to be empty,” you internally said to yourself as you panicked. Finally, the transfer was done. You hurriedly grabbed the flash drive, preparing to get back to the quinjet as fast as you could. As you turned around to leave, you were met with the sight of a hydra agent. He had an eerie smirk on his face as two other agents joined behind him. Your heart felt like it stopped as you realized you truly may not get out of this alive.
*Bucky’s POV*
Bucky woke up to your side of the bed being empty. “That's weird,” he thought to himself; you hadn’t mentioned a mission or early training today. He shrugged off the strange dread that sat at the bottom of his stomach. “She probably had something come up,” he thought to himself, trying to rationalize your absence. He exited your shared room and went to the kitchen, where Steve and Nat were sitting and bickering. He poured himself coffee and sipped it as he tried to wake himself up. “Anybody seen Y/N?” he asked Steve and Nat. “Nope, she must’ve left early for something,” Nat shrugged. Something just didn’t seem right to him. Almost as though the deep connection you two shared was alerting him to your imminent danger. Suddenly, Natasha’s phone began to ring. She looked at the caller ID which had your name displayed across the screen. “Actually, Y/Ns calling me now,” she spoke as she went to answer the phone. “What's up, Y/N?” Natasha cheerfully answered the phone. Her expression immediately changed to one of concern as she heard your pained voice whisper on the other line. Her heart felt like it stopped as you spoke the words, “I’ve been ambushed on a mission. I’m hurt”. As Bucky noticed the immediate change in her expression, his heart filled with dread. “What's going on?” he hurriedly spoke, fear lacing every word. “Y/N’s been ambushed on a mission. She’s hurt” Natasha spoke. “Y/N, we’re sending backup to you right now. I have your location tracked from this phone call. Please try to hold on,” Natasha tried to calm you down. Bucky jumped up from his seat and grabbed his gun, immediately heading up to the second quinjet that was available on the roof. Fear and anger coursed through his veins. He felt fear for you, not knowing what condition you would be in as the team tried to get to you; he felt anger for whoever had hurt you, knowing when he got to them, he would unleash that rage on them. Bucky, Nat, and Steve rushed to start the quinjet and head to your location.
*Your POV*
You had managed to fight off the several hydra agents that ambushed you, but you had been injured in the process. You suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. You lay with your back to the wall as you tried to put pressure on the wound. Your breathing was sporadic as pain laced every breath you took. You held on to your locket and looked at your beloved Bucky as you prepared for what might be your last hours if help didn’t get to you. Your eyes began to feel heavy, and keeping them open felt like the hardest thing you’ve ever done. As the enticing feeling of exhaustion became too much to resist, you closed your eyes, and your body slid to the ground. As you lay unconscious on the ground, the door burst open seeming and Bucky rushed into the base, desperate to find you. Finally, Bucky entered the intel room, your unconscious body being a terrifying sight. He rushed over to you as tears stung his eyes. “Please be alive,” he panicked as he checked for a pulse. He breathed a slight sigh of relief as he realized you had a pulse, but it was weak, and he knew that if he didn’t get you out of there, you might not make it. He picked up your limp body and held you close in his arms as he rushed to get you out of there. Steve and Nat were waiting back at the quinjet as they watched his large form running to the quinjet with you in his arms. The door to the quinjet slammed shut as he brought you inside. He and Nat rushed to provide any medical attention they could while Steve captained the plane to get you guys out of there. “Please be ok,” he repeated like a mantra as tears stained his face. He could only pray that you would make it out of this.
*2 days later*
You slowly blinked open your eyes as you took in the stark white room that surrounded you. You glanced down at your arm as you noticed the IV giving you fluids. You saw Bucky slumped, sleeping on the couch beside your hospital bed. “Bucky,” you weakly whispered. His eyes fluttered open to meet yours, and he rushed to your side as he realized you were awake. Relief flooded his body as he finally knew you would be ok. “When I found you unconscious in the base, I was so scared I had lost you,” he whispered as a tear fell down his cheek. “I’m right here, baby. I’m ok,” you tried to assure him as tears threatened to spill from your eyes. He released a deep breath as his body finally untensed for the first time in days. “Try to get some rest, baby; I’ll be by your side when you wake up.” He spoke as he placed a gentle kiss on your forehead. He held your hand as you closed your eyes, feeling relieved that you had completed the mission and somehow made it back to Bucky alive. When you woke up several hours later, he was by your side as promised, still gently holding your soft hand in his.

Barnes, Barnes & Barnes: Part 13
The creak of the third step on the staircase was louder than you had anticipated, it was echoing in the quiet safe house in tune with overhanging darkness of the late hour.
Slivers of moonlight had radiated in through the reinforced windows in the kitchen and the two bay windows in the living room, casting everything the light touched in an eery glow.
You had paused to take in the silence, taking a moment to gauge whether Winter or James would have heard you leaving the bedroom. The two almost carbon copies had been asleep longer than you were and still you worried that their super soldier hearing would have picked up on your footsteps as you tried to sneak out.
Rest came easy for them, but not for you. Rest had alluded you, sleep had evaded you with every cruel tick of the clock that was mocking you as the hours extended well past midnight.
You couldn’t think straight, not when your mind was devoted to thinking about Bucky and what happened back in the city. It was hard not to think of the super soldier who had been left behind while apparent sleeper agents were trying to either find and destroy Winter or bring him back under their control with the Red Book.
There had been too many convoluted lies, and too many liberties taken with the tool Hydra used. The book should have been destroyed, it should have been burnt from the moment it was found and yet it was out there.
Either Tony had it squirrelled away or it was in the hands of someone with selfish desires to use it against Winter.
The agents that had come to the floor looking for Winter would have easily killed you without a second thought, they would have run you over and James as well to have the Winter Soldier back under their control.
There was never a doubt in your mind that they would destroy anyone and everyone in their path to get what they wanted, and this attack on the floor was only a precursor.
They weren’t going to let this go after a few agents were killed, it was clear that Hydra still had its claws within SHIELD and this new opportunity could have given them the leg up that they needed. The Red Book, you hoped, was in Tony’s possession rather than in the clutches of whatever agents were working behind the scenes.
You held the same kind of hope for Bruce to find a solution to remove all the horror from Winter’s mind, that they could find some way to remotely remove the toxic synapses from the inner working of his brain.
All of this, everything running wild in your head like a hamster running on a wheel, had prevented you from sleeping.
And you had sought peace and quiet outside the safe house in the cold night air.
The breath you held had finally been let out when the silence continued to fall in the cabin, and the squeak of the third step was behind you.
You had carried yourself forward, slowly crossing the living room toward the front door, barefooted and shivering already from the loss of body heat. You shuffled forward until you reached the security panel keeping the house locked down for the night, flipping the cover over to expose the number beneath.
You didn’t spare much thought into punching in the numbers to return the safe house to a neutral state, feeling the braille against the pads of your fingers while pushing the correct sequence. When the code had been rendered acceptable, there was a soft click that had come from the front door and a subtle flash from the light hanging above the door. You closed the panel and grabbed the first jacket you could reach on your way out.
After stepping outside, you moved to sit on one of the armchairs that had been staged on the covered porch. The safe house was designed and set up in a way that made it appear as normal as any other building tucked in the thicket of woods.
It was all an illusion to dissuade anyone who could have happened upon the building from being too curious or suspicious of who was inhabiting the building. Winter, if he had been correct, said that this was meant for Hydra higher-ups and they, more than most, had effortlessly blended in.
What better way to blend into the rustic and isolated density of wild nature than old furniture and a lack of visible modern conveniences?
You sank to the cushion that was placed on the surface of the old wooden deck chair, situating yourself to be able to pull your legs onto the chair. The smooth edge of the wood was pressing against the bottom of your feet, your knees tight against your chest. You angled your head back and cast your eyes upon the clearing before the cabin, the small space devoid of any trees and had been lined with bushes.
If you looked hard enough you could have seen the cameras set up in the covering of trees that were beyond the clearing, the trail cams that weren’t just put in place for animals. If you had tried hard enough, you could have counted them instead of counting sheep and allowed yourself to finally settle into slumber.
Instead, you kept yourself awake.
Instead of allowing yourself to sleep, you thought of Bucky and Steve back in the city.
You thought of what kind of hell they would be going through trying to find the Red Book or fighting Tony on why he had kept it, to begin with. You wondered if they had run themselves through the agents to weed out the double-crossing bastards, or if they were trying to track you, James and Winter, down.
You let your mind run wild and rampant while your body pleaded and wanted sleep only to be held off by your brain’s demands.
“Don’t think you should be out here, malen'kaya golubka.” Winter approached from your right, appearing outside with you with no detectable sign that he had slept either. (Little dove)
You heard him, you knew he had been sleeping. Yet judging by his appearance you would think he’d been awake for weeks.
“If any one of shouldn’t be out here, it’s you. I’m not the one-“ You turned your head, speaking to him but only getting so far.
You were distracted and interrupted by the door opening and the other version of Barnes stepping onto the porch with three mugs set on a wooden tray. The latter of the Barnes was far more dressed than the first, James appearing to at least wear a pair of sweats and a hoodie whereas Winter was wearing half of that.
“If you’re not going to sleep, neither are we.” James huffed, setting the tray down on the patio table and then he crossed his arms over his chest, dark eyebrows furrowed while casting a look of disappointment at you.
“What?” You leaned forward to grab one of the mugs, cupping it with both hands only to preen under the warmth radiated from the porcelain. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
James hadn’t immediately given you an answer, rather he had blown out a puff of air and dropped his arms from his chest to his side. He had stepped around the other half of the table and reached for a cup of his own, the scent of chocolate and vanilla, a dash of cinnamon had hit your senses and invigorated your desire to taste the sweet drink.
It was what fuelled you, helping you avoid a conversation with Winter and James about your well-being, mental or physical, despite knowing that one or both wanted to ask. You denied them the chance to ask, or at the very least had taken more time to be able to come up with a plausible excuse while sipping on the hot chocolate that James made you.
“The big angry guy-“ James had started, brushing off Winter’s bristling and foreign growl with a shrug, “-is gonna be fine. Whatever they did to him, whatever they put in his head, it’s gonna be fine.”
“Usually I enjoy your optimism but right now it makes me want to kick your ass.” You chided James, your scowl stirring a boisterous laugh, one that was light and oddly warm, from Winter.
The super soldier with the vibranium arm and red star had preened under the threat, his eyes unnaturally lightened by the sudden back and forth between you and James.
“That’s what ‘m talking bout, doll.” James waved his hand between you and Winter, admiring and pridefully boasting about what was lingering between you and the assassin. “You think it’s impossible to make the ace’s mind better-“
“Ace? Did you just call him ace?” You cut James off, lowering the cup to rest upon your knee, hands still warmed by the sweet mixture.
“Ace. In poker an ace is the most powerful card, ace-“ James glanced toward Winter, their carbon copy eyes meeting and an almost matching tight-lipped smile appearing on both their faces. “-is the key to winning the game. Winter, the Winter Soldier is an ace. And the ace-“
“I’m terrible at poker.” You cut him off again, shifting on the wooden deck chair, dropping your legs and resting your bare feet against the floor. “But I get your point.”
“What happened back at the apartment, the agents and the gun…” James had cleared his throat, the cathartically grainy sound a precursor to him reaching forward to set the cup down before he wiped his hands on his sweat.
“I told you that I’m enhanced, or at least part of me is since I was experimented on by Hydra.”
“I never thought of it before, you know? That what Hydra put you through could have made you enhanced, even a little. But-“
“He wants to know.” Winter cut you off, raising his hand to smooth your hair down and deliver only a small portion of affection he had for you. “There’s some lab equipment in the basement, or the-“
Cellar.” James drew your attention from Winter to himself, and then back again when he had put forth the proposition. “We could use that equipment to do a few tests and see how or what percent of enhancement I have.”
“I thought you said this place was off the grid. Limited technology to not be detected?” Your gaze flit from one to the next, watching them as they communicated silently.
“I mean I know that Hydra and their members, whoever this place was intended for, couldn’t have gone entirely without technology and the security system is wired and rigged through protected lines but to do this-“
“It would appear like a blip, a brief moment of online activity before it would fade again. But we don’t need much time.” James had surmised, leaning forward and reaching out to grasp your hand in his.
“If we have everything ready, all the blood drawn and DNA needed, we would only need to be visible long enough to have it tested.”
“James, does it matter? About you being enhanced? Does the percentage matter?” You questioned them, both of them, hesitant about giving in and testing him while risking the three of you being found.
“It matters to me, I want to know. There’s something I have some of what’s running through their veins in myself. I want to know.” James had pushed the matter again, he pushed the idea of having you draw blood and take samples of his DNA to give him some kind of clarity.
“It’s not like we’ve got much else to do.” James pleaded with you, squeezing your hand.
You knew you were going to give in, you knew that this had meant more to him than he was verbally letting on. You knew you were going to completely cave, and within another half-second of his pleas and the softening of his eyes, you had agreed.
“We’ll start tomorrow then.”

•Bucky is very considerate when it comes to your period, he never wants you to be in pain
•It took you a while to express your discomfort, especially before you two were sexually active, though he can always tell when you’re not feeling well and he tries to help you
•He was almost like a puppy, he knows you’re not feeling well and he tries to bring you things you like, at first he brought you your favorite meal from the place down the street but he would bring it while you were bloated and nauseous which would annoy you, then he would end up worrying that you’re not eating since he knows you, you love to eat…he quickly learned not to say that though as you immediately took it to mean he thought you were fat
•Your mood swings confuse him to no end and right when he thinks he has an understanding of your mood, you’re crying
•He snuggles you whenever you get weepy and it’s his favorite time oddly enough because when you cry you get snuggly and when you get snuggly you get tired and fall asleep on his chest, making him feel like he’s made you feel better, at least enough to rest
•When you finally express why you’re not feeling well it seemingly registers to him all of the times you were clearly uncomfortable but brushed it off
•He does research on the internet that night for hours, learning everything that’s going on with your body (since men in his time weren’t taught about this subject) but also trying to figure out common ways he could help, if not just to make you feel less moody if he couldn’t relieve your pain
•He took some things he learned online too literally so the first time he goes shopping for you he gets way too much, coming home with 6 boxes of tampons (all the correct brand and size which impressed and surprised you), 2 plastic bags full of 15 different kinds of chocolate, and 8 new stuffed animals
•He expressed to you instantly that it doesn’t bother him that you have your period and he can’t believe that there are men in the world that are so uncomfortable with something so natural that they’ve made his Princess feel like she needs to hide it from him lest he be disgusted by you, Fuck that
•He sets to making you feel comfortable right away, getting you your heating pad and setting a nest up on the couch, turning on your favorite movie and snuggling you close, massaging your lower back
•Bucky downloads a period tracking app on his phone and fills in the dates and symptoms he notices and that you express so that he can tell around the time that it’s going to happen; from that moment on he is always prepared for that time of the month, and if he’s not prepared at least he’s never confused when it happens
•He has a secret stash in his closet of a box full of chocolate, he also keeps several boxes of the tampons you prefer to use since you always seem to forget to buy them on time, though whenever you need it he always surprises you by being willing to go to the store and buy them for you if he’s all out
•Bucky was truly stunned at the fact that men wouldn’t go to the store to get tampons for their women, a women that you’re in love with, a women that’s in love with you, a women that is going through something that men will never have to suffer through and they don’t have enough compassion to go get them the only thing they really need? The Sergeant doesn’t consider himself a ‘good man’ in any sense but Bucky doesn’t understand modern men at all
•One thing Bucky noticed is that you seem to be in quite a bit of pain almost every month, and upon asking you explained you have worse cramps than normal women, often being debilitating for you to the point that you can’t stand up straight; it took some time to convince him that you’ve already been to the doctor and that physically your okay, there’s nothing that can be done to fix it, you just have to suffer, he doesn’t appreciate that answer
•Bucky mutes your phone at this time of the month, telling Tony whenever he calls with a request or Fury when he calls with a mission to fuck themselves, his Princess is in pain and he needs to take care of you
•He gets Banner to get you a script for some stronger pain meds for when you desperately need them, not willing to give them to you all the time but at least to be able to sleep at night or have a nap when the pain is really bad
•There is a hall closet full of blankets and pillows for use when he builds you a nest to sleep in so you don’t have to move, Bucky actually finds that he enjoys caring for you, it makes him feel useful and loved when you look up at him with your big beautiful Y/EC eyes and smile at him
•About 6 months after you start dating, Tony clears out and gives you and ‘Your Cyborg’ your own floor in the tower to stay in and Bucky fixes up a whole room with a large nest of your blankets on top of a king sized mattress that sits on the floor in front of a TV, it has an air conditioner, a bathroom full of products and a basket in the edge of your nest that he always keeps stocked with chocolate and snacks; this is mostly so he doesn’t have to keep setting up the ‘nest’ over and over since you enjoy it at all times of the month, and it’s so big your beefy soldier boyfriend can fit into it with you and all of the stuffies he bought you before and after you told him about your period (the fact that Bucky believed the way to make you feel better when you were ‘sick’ was to buy you stuffed animals touches your heart in a special way, he’s the worlds greatest assassin and still your sweet teddy bear)
•You often find yourself getting a massage, either your lower back or even better your crampy tummy, appreciating the relief his inhumanly strong hand brings to you, the massage is often necessary to help you sleep at night and he rubs your stomach until you drift off to sleep at night
•It took a bit of time for the Soldier to allow your flesh to be touched by his vibranium hand however as he realized he was able to use it to help your hot flashes he tried to relax himself enough to allow you to hold it; Bucky now even enjoys watching you wrap your body around his metal arm which never warms up, the metal staying constantly cool which allows you to get some relief from the hot flashes
•For being a man from the 40s Bucky is very sweet and attentive when it comes to your time of the month, he hates seeing you in any kind of pain so seeing you in what is basically unnecessary pain is something he’s strongly driven to relieve for you
•Bucky is the best boyfriend you’ve ever had, never having expected him to be the kind of man comfortable buying feminine hygiene products at the store for you, you appreciate him more than ever and you are damn sure he will not be getting away from you any time soon

Because Bucky Barnes decided to reappear in my brain rot,
John Wick’s daughter!reader meets Bucky when he was still the Winter Soldier because Pierce or some other Hydra higher up would show up at the Continental with Bucky as their body guard and reader sees and meets him there at first.
Then cuts to her meeting/seeing him after he escapes Hydra and offers to help him before they eventually join the Avengers.
