TVD Rambling Rewatch 1x16

Tensions rise between Frederick and Harper back at the ranch. Pearl arrives in seconds to stop it. We learn that he has beef with the Salvatore bros for being the reason they were locked up. Odd, because they were the reason for Katherine, but neither of them outed any of the other vamps.

Once again an employee of MG chooses to go there on a night off for a date because there is no other restaurant in town. Elena asks Matt how he likes working there and he mentions them not being able to keep a bartender and I have to think back. Let's see...in 1x8 Lexi compelled the bartender not to check IDs and he got arrested and then there was that whole thing with Ben being immolated. Yeah, bartender seems to be the redshirt of the TVD franchise. That and non-main cast humans.

She and Matt reminisce about their lifelong inherited friendship from their mothers; Stefan is interested and Caroline is put out. Then they spot the trio of legal guardians partying it up at the bar. Damon raises a sarcastic toast and the ladies don't even notice their charges.

Frederick and Beth something leave the house to go into town and Harper is not pleased on behalf of Pearl but he can't stop them.

Anna shows up at Jeremy's house and he is pleasantly surprised and lets her in.

This is for me to more put my thoughts out.. because I have alot of takes but no point of “real” reference besides myself and I wanna take more account and see what the results were and all that good jazz... ok.

So its been a smooth time since the pandemic and I’ve been waaaaay more interested in sport hierarchy and seeing what I like or don’t, thoughts I have that are “justified” or “wrong” and so on... I’ve got traits I find useful, non-useful and meh and this is more geared towards Kellen Moore. I

like what I’ve seen from Kellen Moore the person/athlete, and his story with me traces waaaay back to late 2010 (back end of his sophomore year?) but specifically when Boise St. faced Georgia in the Georgia Dome in 2011 in the Chick-fil-A opener. That team was in the WAC with C. Petersen as their HC and had Doug Martin & K. Moore who were the big names and they outplayed UGA that night... shit was awful esp. the unis UGA had on too and essentially at home.. nasty work that weekend lol. But he was cuttin’ niggas uppppp called his ass the surgeon or someshit like that, but I’m sure he was up there as a Heisman hopeful (’10: Cam’s year and ‘11 was LaMichael James) and he was known as one of those really really smart guys. I remember the story they ran for him at the Heisman of how he collected playbooks... nigga playbooks fr from all over NFL & college ones but more importantly he had found Boise’s too.. anyway he had a leg up on niggas even though he got redshirted but that’s where I was aware of him.

As a kid you think alot of niggas are gonna dominate in college then do the same in the league and you realize quickly that often times we are wrong as kids but fuck me if you look at Kiper and them others hit rate but I digress... Above the shoulders I was like he’s solid but physically he wasn’t it. But he went pro wasn’t drafted but had a lil time up there with the big boys I think he backed up Stafford because I think that was the same Lions team that had Stafford and Kris Durham [They were so good together at UGA.. “wow, they were special”]. Womp womp I only cared for the Lions because in fantasy I’d draft Megatron & Stafford shiiit Titus Young and Kris too if I’m not mistaken but I didn’t care about Moore..

Now, NFL Moore is where I go woooooah now. Its a much more succinct view of things. Its that to build something sustainable you need to have a plan of some sort and in sports esp. football you come from a tree of someone and I had to look this up just quick to see where he would of come from in a way.. Kellen Moore’s dad was a HS coach in Washington (state).

Kellen played at Boise State under Chris Petersen who coached under Jim Sochor (main connection) but was hired by Dan Hawkins (who also started his career with Sochor) at Boise to be the OC. In the Jim Sochor pool are coaches like: Dan Hawkins, Chris Petersen, Gary Patterson, and one Paul Hackett (dad to future NFL HC Nathaniel) but was from the Walsh school mainly. So when Moore joined the Cowboys in ‘18 as their QB coach then in ‘19 Garrett is fired and he’s promoted to OC.. just like that and that’s where I come to where I am today.

He was promoted by JJones as some tyoe of boy wonder who would galvanize a young core of Dak, Zeke, Amari as that offense was somewhat stagnate and time to move on from Garrett and he inherited 3 Pro Bowl OLmen. For a split second it.. did? buddy was aggressive and had a bunch of pre-snap motions (like those from a particular “tree” have a tendency of) then after the completion of the ‘21 season he got HC interviews and that’s good for him to understand what teams wanted and are looking for, but some of them niggas were fr and willing to hire him before he rejoined the Cowboys [add text screenshot here] and I get a similar feeling now with DQ after he’s backed out of HC opp. for whatever he says but that’s for a different 4:30am ramble lol, but I think he came back with the idea that he’d be there long enough for Mike McCarthy to be pushed out and he’d be the HC there in Dallas and now I think Quinn is in that seat but again I digress lol.

He came back and to me its much of the same thing Dallas has always been.. beating who they’re supposed to and getting out-coached in must wins. When you hold the 49ers to 19 points as a defense... 23 the year before? those are game you go and win esp. with the talent. To me he didn’t have a philosophy that he could fall back on and on a consistent basis was outcoached.

When I watch games as a nobody I’m about the end of the half, start of the half scoring and when the game is on the line I am counting plays... where I know its money time and we’re giving back the ball to ‘x’ team who won’t give us a chance to win. I think about how Kirby Smart’s timeout against Ohio St. being the real difference when the game was done. I have an issue with how Moore handles pressure, how he is a PLAYCALLER but struggles to manage the game as an offense. If you pay attention to Cleveland for as boo boo they have been one thing Stefanski is good at is his opening script lmao... they find points or move the ball on the opener then after than its shit but once shit isn’t perfect if that Moore has failed over and over. When people kept asking for my thoughts... I’m like buddy shouldn’t even be an OC fr. he needs to get back to the basics and find a coach where he’ll learn how to manage a game.

I’m disgusted on how he’s been allowed to fail up to end up on the Chargers because WHAT. THE. FUCK lmaoo Broooooooo I’ve been off of Staley after year one. Now put them 2 in the same room that’s fucking disgusting. Staley is supposed to be a defensive wiz and Telesco has gone out and added defensive talent and them niggas have gotten worse but I’ll talk about him later too. What Moore lacks to me is a foundational understanding of what his job is and how to do it outside of calling plays. He never adjusts and struggles in managing the game and that’s not goooood. Good players can only mask whatever is wrong for only so long. I think I’ve said enough and will leave it there, but now *looks at the camera* its on the record.

general writing advice

If you’re stuck on a scene, there is a huge amount of basic advice that you can follow to try to make that scene work, but I think the first question you have to really ask yourself is ‘what went wrong before I got here’. When I’m stuck, it is 100% always because something feels wrong with happened before and/or I’m trying to force something to happen that just doesn’t work. If writing it is super tedious and you hate it, go back to the last time something felt right and good and just go ahead and try rewriting everything after that point.

STOP. WITH. THE. THESAURUS. I stg those posts going around tumblr are the #1 thing that drives me wild. If you feel like you’re overusing the word ‘cry’ and ‘shout’ and ‘said’ and whatever else you’re overusing the solution isn’t to stick in words that don’t fit and usually sounds silly and to CHANGE THE WAY YOU ARE WRITING. I know this isn’t the simplest solution and depending where you are in your writing development it can seem really goddamn impossible but come up with a different way to describe the moment. Stop with Susan cried and Debbie cried and Robert had always been crying. Not all of them need to cry and if they do all need to cry, you need to figure out how to say that without the word cry. Describe their faces? Describe their voices? Describe anything else.

If you’re feeling down and depressed and like everything you write is trash #1 the best advice you’ll ever get is probably to get up and go outside. Go for a walk. Sit in the sun. Garden. Jump Rope. Do something purely physical and outside. Get a good nights sleep and when you get back if you start feeling anxious about what you’re about to write then stop working on that WIP and literally just start writing anything? Start by describing the clothes you’re wearing or a poster on your wall or you feelings about boiled chicken breasts. Take all the pressure off and run the engine for a bit to get the cobwebs out. Once you’re warmed up, try that WIP again.

Its not actually necessary to kick your reader in the gut but if you want to do it, the literal only way its going to matter is if you’ve gotten your reader attached to your characters/story. Nobody cares when the redshirts die, I’m just saying.

If you want to write long the only answer to get there is to practice. I know I haven’t written much lately but if you’re hanging out on my tumblr or you know any story that I’ve written, it’s probably longer than it needs to be. I wrote a fanfic that was longer than War and fucking Peace (apparently) because I genuinely, 100% love long-form, long-chapter fics. I cannot be contained. But I started out writing, struggling to get to 1.5k because I had already conveyed everything that I wanted to say and there was literally no other story left to tell. Then I started in just adding in filler, always filler, so much filler. Then it was random plot twists without any kind of basis in the storyline. Then it was long rambling internal monologues. Then it was purple prose probably. The point is, the real KEY to writing longer chapters is having more story to tell. Multiple plots/subplots, multiple characters with fleshed out motivations and personal histories, reasonable conflicts that cannot be resolved quickly (or at all), extended families or friendships that are all relevant to the story. If your WIP is only two people falling in love and nothing else really happens except what happens between them? That’s a short story and you’ll find it difficult to stretch it to any considerable length without it being filled up with white noise. Longer chapters? = More Story And you only learn how to come up with and juggle more story through practice. But don’t be afraid to try! You can definitely do it.

i havent actually made any comments on episode in particularbut

thoughts on dramatis personae? im not sure why im compelled to ramble abt this one in particular- bc i have enjoyed MOST eps but this one... omg

see at first i wasnt TOO sold on it. its just a lil stale, vibe wise for me rn? like omg. i dont think i'd mind it if i went into it first, but its like... idk if this type of "plot" has a specific name? or if it's too niche? or if it's just under the whole umbrella of possession (even if it's less explicitly that here)? but tng did a similar sort of thing, too, vaguely: eye of the beholder, wherein troi and the redshirt re-enacted that whole love affair murder-suicide. and then there was a similar story in that Buffy episode where they kept re-enacting that... love affair murder-suicide. and obvs thats not that, this was abt a fight for power but its like... STILL the whole bit of: they're possessed by these dead characters, and doomed to re-enact their exact same tragedy kinda thing and ...

IDK. i know ive seen OTHER examples of tht before, but the btvs episode & the tng episode were BOTH in my brain and omg. i hated both of those (they sucked, albeit for different reasons). so i was a little biased in that regard but also just??? idk i think it's a neat concept but then also i kinda find it. tiresome after you've seen it once or twice bc its predictable and not in the Good way, yknow- like i kinda guess whats about to happen here, and i don't rlly have any stakes in this, since i know damn well none of them are themselves and theyre mirroring this etc. etc. etc. like the novelty's worn off, and there's not that much underneath the concept after that BUT

honestly odo transformed it. omg. i mean not transformed- it was still a little... eh??? i mean, idk i felt myself getting a little wahtevers! in some parts BUT LIKE. its less abt THAT concept and more abt odo just being a fucking king, which respect. i think its bc... like in a lot of other episodes of trek, especially, i feel like it would take forever for these bitches to piece it together. The Passenger is a good example of that. which love and light- its a lil frustrating sometimes, but i find it usually forgiveable HOWEVER odo like. is smart as hell and catches onto it really fast and devises a plan that just WORKS. like i feel like any other time they'd have characters acting silly just for the tension but NO LIKE. LITERALLY. I DONT KNOW WHY BUT ITS JUST SO FUCKING REFRESHING TO HAVE HIM JSUST... BE SO DAMN COMPETENT AND WORK SO WELL JUST ON HIS OWN. HLEP.

also was obsessed with them all being very ooc this ep. it was fun all things considered. :3

AND BTW idk why i dont ramble more abt other eps i think ive just been really into it in a different sorta way anyway im thinking im gonna finish s1 of ds9 tomorrow for sure but im prolly gonna sleep now instead. snrrkkk wooo mimimimimi goodnight girlies\

So 2020 has been A Year.

And I genuinely do not know how I would have gotten through it if I hadn't, just a little over a year ago, stumbled into this fandom. I will be forever grateful to @enbyleighlines for dragging me here by posting about MDZS (and for being the second ever person to follow this blog!) and to @elvencantation @drwcn @dying-redshirt-noises @zennyo and @trensu for reminding me how much fun fandom can be!

so the origins of my first star trek ocs

so, i watched aos first. and i loved it because it was my introduction to star trek and the characters and i recently realised it’s v problematic and stuff so i watched tos. and this is a super long and needlessly complex explanation of how my first three star trek ocs (dottie, clarke, and taylor) came to be! more on them as individuals to come :) (i did give the broad strokes of their backstories in here so it’s a long post. i’ll put the basic parts in bold so you can skip the boring bits that i just rambled in

my first character, i made for the aos timeline, but shifted her over to the tos timeline without much hassle.

her name is dorothy (dottie) jane negga, and she was born on the lunar colony to her human parents, as their third child born on the moon (one brother, one sister). they moved back to earth (specifically the greek countryside, which i need to do more research on, sorry) where they started an olive farm (neither of her parents come from greece nor do they have a background in farming, but her oldest brother took a horticultural course on the colony so he gets it up off the ground). she has a supportive and wholesome background (which was difficult for me to write because there was so much opportunity to give her a Tragic Backstory but i need to stop doing that so much lmao), two younger siblings (another sister, and a non-binary sibling). of the five siblings, she is the only child who didn’t want to work full-time on the farm, and the family helped put her through starfleet academy, where she took the command route with various piloting qualifications before being assigned to the enterprise as ‘ensign dorothy negga’ due to her exceptional academic success as well as her fantastic interpersonal skills.

next up was my second star trek oc, someone i had a vague impression of while watching aos but fleshed out and named while watching tos. her name is s’on ahkhu clarke (i don’t know how vulcan names work i’m so sorry), and she is half-vulcan, half-romulan. in my tos timeline, her father (a weaver of cloth on vulcan) was tricked into thinking her mother (a notorious romulan captain attempting to infiltrate the vulcan high council) was an ambitious young vulcan with no social standing trying to work her way up. he fell in love, she went with it. they had a child together, her mother using it to further secure herself in vulcan society, but she was found out shortly afterwards and escaped back to romulus. clarke’s father raised her alone until she was eight years old, when her mother began correspondence with the vulcan high council over custody of the child. eventually, her father was forced to let her travel to romulan space every other year for a year to stay with her mother. her mother was, by then, captain of a mixed-species, all female, space equivalent of a pirate ship. while she found the practices of stealing, torturing, and murdering not only illogical, but deplorable, her mother told her that if she did not assist in running the ship, she would not permit her to return to vulcan. eventually, she joined starfleet academy during one of her years where she was supposedly ‘on vulcan’, and she managed to partially cut ties with her parents. she was just shy of being legally an adult on vulcan when she arrived at the academy, and was put in accommodation with the equally young cadet dorothy negga. the two became oddly co-dependant despite their wildly different personalities, and their symbiotic study relationship assisted them both in getting grades good enough to be assigned to the enterprise upon their graduation. clarke is a redshirt, but is exceptionally skilled with various types of defensive and offensive attacks from her time spent with her mother, so don’t worry, she’s safe. also : no-one is sure whether or not they were doing the do on the regular in the academy or not, and they won’t comment on the discourse.

last, and definitely not least (lowkey my favourite of the og 3) we have taylor jones. taylor is... pretty weird, im not gonna lie. so i came up with her in pretty much the same way as i did clarke, a vague idea during aos that solidified during tos, she just took longer to nail down. the enterprise is in full swing by the time she gets introduced during a typical ‘away mission gone wrong’ type situation. she’s quite animal-like, she can’t speak, she’s afraid of everyone (except clarke and spock because telepathy and shit), she is telepathic and empathetic, but doesn’t seem to understand language. she’s in bad nick, and she’s the only survivor of a life-support systems failure of a starfleet-scientist-gone-off-the-rails’s illegal experimentation subterranean lab on a class-m planet. turns out he’d been deliberately inter-breeding species (humans, vulcans, orions, romulans, betazoids, ect) in order to create species perfectly designed to suit various jobs he needed doing to sustain himself on the planet. taylor was designed as basically a poorly treated PA, engineered for and trained to anticipate and fulfil his needs through a combination of telepathy, empathy, and a scarily fast learning and adaptation ability. with the help of clarke, they manage to get her aboard the ship and into medbay, where she (for some reason) practically imprints on dr.mccoy. dr.mccoy nurses her back to health (she won’t let any of the other medical staff near her) and begins to teach her how to communicate verbally, while clarke refuses to leave her side as she takes her time to teach taylor how to control her telepathy and how to refine telepathic communications. when they found her, she didn’t have a name, so they assigned her the name ‘taylor jones’. as well as this, leonard and clarke have to try and untrain her from her need to assist everyone on every little thing. she went missing for the first week she wasn’t locked in medbay as she raced around the ship frantically trying to meet everyone’s smallest whims, only being recovered when kirk was feeling mildly thirsty and she showed up on the bridge with a glass and a pitcher full of water (she got the hang of replicators and other technologies pretty fast, it was what she was genetically predisposed to do, after all). she proves to be quite useful on away missions, as she develops an interest in science (much to mccoy’s disgust, he’d enjoyed teaching her about anatomy and first aid, and is loathe to share her with spock), and kirk appoints her to the role of ‘acting ensign’.

now this is where my inexcusable surplus of star trek ocs kicks in.

i realised that it’d be pretty dope to make my own starship crew, like, a whole ass crew. but i dont know enough about star trek too avoid continuity errors and shit. so i decided to start my own star trek “series” set approximately fifty years after whatever star trek series is the furthest in the future (so, like, picard, right? idk the timelines im a Bad Fan). the basics for these three are the same, except they start out on another enterprise namesake (enterprise-j) as the flagship of starfleet, where the senior officers (i’ve yet to flesh them out fully) are NOT (obviously) the og bridge crew. eventually, taylor decides to travel to earth to get her qualifications from the academy while the other two girls finish out their ‘explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilisations’ mission. taylor graduates the academy just as that mission ends, and is assigned to a research vessel that will be doing more in-depth research on planets/phenomena encountered by the enterprise-j as ensign jones, under captain dorothy (she insists on being called dottie) negga. clarke gets the position of cheif of security. there are many more charcters on board this ship. i still have more i need to make because i want to make an oc for as many of the people needed onboard as possible.

BnHA Chapter 227: Basically Just Me Saying “Holy Shit” a Bunch

Previously on BnHA: We went on a semi-enlightening romp into Toga’s past. Basically she was an adorable child who just so happened to have a taste for blood. And whoever’s job is was to explain to her, “hey Toga, I know you like blood, but other people like being alive, so, you know. Let’s explore some other options for you,” they basically dropped the ball there. So after she murdered her hapless Deku-looking classmate in middle school, she went on the run, and we basically know the rest. Back in the present, Toga had just been blown up from the inside out as you may recall, so she spent most of the chapter kind of out of it. At one point Kizuki even started talking about her like she was already dead, reassuring her that she’d become a martyr for the Army’s cause (which, no thanks). But then Toga managed to stumble to her feet and transform into Ochako as she tried to flee. It was revealed that while transformed, she can use the quirk of whoever she’s turned into, and she proceeded to demonstrate this by floating Kizuki (and half her redshirt goons) a hundred feet into the air before dropping her back down to the pavement. Yeah. So I’m pretty sure she’s dead now. Ah well.

Today on BnHA: Toga passes out in a shed after a job well done. We learn that the MLA is recording all of the fighting, most likely for propaganda purposes because as we have previously established they’re a bunch of dicks. Hanabata confirms that Kizuki is dead and gets the Army all fired up. They charge at Tomura, who is really fucking sleep-deprived you guys, and as he stands there blinking at them he has another flashback. Turns out the little girl from the previous flashback was his sister, and back when they were cute lil munchkins and she was still alive (sob), she showed him a picture of Nana and told him that their grandma was a hero. Tomura doesn’t remember this clearly, but he remembers the accompanying emotions, which is enough to get me hyped out of my mind fyi. Back in the present, Tomura disintegrates I’m-gonna-go-with-about-200 Army henchpeople basically instantaneously without even touching some of them, which, oh shit. And then Dabi is all “oh cool I want to do some mass murder too” but before he can let loose, some dude with fucking ice powers shows up to challenge him. I guess this means we’re never going to get Touya VS Shouto, or if we do it’s going to be very repetitive. But it’s not like I’m complaining either way. Here’s hoping the villain flashback trend continues next week because omfg.

(All comments are my unspoiled reactions from my first readthrough of this chapter like an hour ago lol. I did a quick edit for grammar and clarity, but aside from that this is as close to a live liveblog as I’m going to get. It took two-thirds of a year, but these recaps are finally caught up.)

lol so much to analyze here. real quick:

“sleepy.” if that isn’t the most relatable chapter title in the history of time, though

loving the “my villain academia” logo in the background! as far as I’m concerned that’s the official title of this arc

“the conclusion of the battles” y’all I read this and I was like “what?! already!?!” but then I realized they’re talking about volume 23, which features the conclusion of the joint training battle arc. so who knows how many more villain battlin’ chapters we’ve still got ahead. I have a feeling we’re already winding down, though

it’s 2214, who the fuck still uses polaroid cameras. that would be like someone in our time using a [googles inventions from 200 years ago] modern suspension bridge. ...wait

anyway you guys maybe I should start reading the actual chapter already if I want any hope of actually getting this posted before fucking midnight though

oh hey, so Toga is dying in a shed you guys. fun

I’m not really thrilled about this! to be honest! I mean for fuck’s sake she’s only 17. she was blown up from the inside out. and although the consequences initially seemed to have possibly been handwaved, it appears that no one can escape BnHA’s realistic injury clause for long! so. yeah

I get why she hid, because it’s not like the others are just gonna drop everything to come help her (although Twice, though...), and there are enemies everywhere so this is probably safer. but it also means that if she passes out here there’s a good chance she’s not going to wake up again! and that is bad! that is very much not good

what she really needs to do is call Ujiko! hitch a ride out of there while you still can! he is a doctor, right? even if it is the questionable mad scientist type! worst case, you end up as a Noumu. actually, wait a sec, maybe we should think this through

and yet the fact that she’s still laughing, though. just. goddammit. I love her so much. I swear to god Toga if you fucking die...!!

so now she’s curling up in the fetal position and thinking “once again I’ve gotten closer to you”

yeah, Deku really does do this every other week. or he did for a little while at least sob

and now we are cutting to ReDestro who for some reason is monologuing about Toga!

oh right, because he had the cameras and shit set up to livestream that shit

okay but is it just me or is he not looking at any cameras. he’s just enjoying the view from his little observation tower same as before. does his quirk allow him to see everywhere at once or what

is it bad that I barely even paid attention to the actual content of his ramblings lol. it’s just the same old same old. blah blah society rejects anyone who’s different, it’s so unfair, blah blah

it’s not a bad point, mind you; it’s just that RD and his army are completely full of shit and acting like they’re so much better even though they’re just a bunch of mur-diddly-urderers. it’s like how PETA acts like they’re champions of animal rights when really they mostly just kill shelter animals, insult Steve Irwin, and claim that milk causes autism. but I digress sob

okay you guys I think this is intentional misdirection. we’re meant to believe that Tenko’s dad was perhaps abusive and that his behavior toward his son ultimately triggered the awakening of his quirk and led to all of the subsequent Horrible Things happening

but I think what it actually is is that Tenko’s dad probably resents Nana for giving him up. and maybe Tenko wanted to know more about her and maybe he got in trouble for it? because now Hana is showing him the picture, and then talking about this mysterious conversation with their dad and saying she’s on Tenko’s side. so that’s my bet

anyway! but this means Tomura might not need as much convincing as I previously speculated! I figured he probably wouldn’t know much, if anything, about his grandma even if he did somehow get his memories back, because he was only four when all that shit went down, and Nana had parted ways with Tomura’s dad years ago. but if he actually did know a bit about her and even possibly felt a connection with her, as this flashback suggests, that could go a long way towards fueling his eventual breakaway from AFO’s side once All Might is able to explain the truth

So I promised a Emergency! Pokemon AU the other day and I’m finally getting around to typing it up. I mean like basically its just pokemon partners for everyone.

also I want to thank @zucchinigal for listening to me ramble about this au for...a good while now. You’re the best!!

@dying-redshirt-noises I know you want this :D

So like nobody is a competitive battler so I didn’t see any reason why they would have like a whole team of pokemon?? idk makes sense to me

Let’s start with 51s!!!

Johnny has two pokemon simply because he couldn’t bare to leave one by itself. He’s got a Totodile (Lv. 26) and a Chikorita (Lv. 25) and he loves both of them dearly. Totodile is very rough and tumble but has a gentle side while Chikorita is incredibly sweet with everyone. Chikorita likes to go around singing and checking on everyone in the station and Totodile likes to help with repairs.

Roy has a Ninetales (Lv. 52) that he raised from a vulpix that he got as a child. Both of them are very much on the same wavelength and frequently share the same expressions. She tends to get jealous of people that get close to Roy and she hates being in a pokeball. Most of the time she is very dignified but she can be dramatic.

Chet has a Politoad (Lv. 34) that is his partner in crime when it comes to playing jokes on the others. Politoad is quick to try to make friends with others but can be impish, just like his trainer. Can act as a leader in times of need and he loves the attention.

Marco has a Leafeon (Lv. 43) that he’s raised from a small Eevee. He tends to be quiet and observe from the back but can be quite devious. Leafeon and Politoad are good friends and love to help with pranks and be in cahoots with Chet.

Mike!! Mike has a Ampharos (Lv. 50) that he loves dearly. She goes with him everywhere and they are very close. He got her as a Mareep that followed him home from school one day and just wouldn’t leave. She loves to go dune buggying with him and has a pair of sunglasses just for her. She can Mega evolve!!

Hank has a Lucario (Lv. 64) that he got when he was in the army. Lucario is a natural leader and really knows how to rally the others. He and Hank share a telepathic link which proves useful in field. Lucario is very serious pokemon and doesn’t tend to joke around but does loosen up over time as he gets used to the others.

I’m gonna stick Brice and Bellingham here too just because.

Brice’s pokemon partner is Decidueye (Lv. 35)! Brice picked up a Rowlet when he was working on a farm trying to earn enough money to get to LA. It had been injured and he nursed it back to health and it refused to leave his side. Decidueye is fiercely protective of Brice and will engage in battles to settle things if necessary.

Bellingham has a Dragonite (Lv. 67) who is incredibly gentle and calm much like her partner. She’s very laid back and tends to act as a grounding presence to everyone around her. She doesn’t like to battle but is prepared if she needs to be. She’s super strong and fast and very protective of her friends

Dixie has a Nidoqueen (Lv. 50) that she rescued. Nidoqueen’s previous owner left her to the curb after losing a battle and Dixie found her after work one day. It took a lot of time and patience to get Nidoqueen to trust her but now they are very close and Dixie loves her lot.

Kel got Gallade (Lv. 55) while he was still in med school. The small Ralts showed up in his apartment one day and just wouldn’t leave. Gallade is just as stubborn as Kel and frequently shadows Brackett when he checks on patients. Gallade tends to act annoyed when Joe’s Mimikyu is around but he really enjoys the smaller pokemon’s company.

Joe found Mimikyu (Lv. 52) hanging around the small gift shop at Rampart trying to blend in with the stuffed toys. Mimikyu immediately grew attached and started to follow Joe everywhere. Some of the others were worried about having a ghost pokemon around but seeing as how the kids that Joe frequently treats love it, it’s no longer a worry. Mimikyu likes to get into lab coat pockets to hitch rides (especially Kel’s).

Morton has a Haxorus (Lv. 54) that he got when he was in the army. She’s very friendly but tends to stay out of the way at Rampart. She’s the number one go to when someone comes in with a violent pokemon. She likes making friends with other pokemon.

Joanne has a Clefable (Lv. 46) that she’s had for a long time. Clefable helps around the house with both the housework and watching the kids. Clefable always is there for Jo to talk to and listens very well. She doesn’t sass Jo or Roy but will sass Ninetales and like to get her riled up but they generally work very well together as a unit.

That’s a clever plot excuse to keep them from killing Lucifer – keeping his grace “on tap”. Also...keeps it with the theme of capturing him in a bar which gives it nice symmetry.

Oh look they're all Princess Briding down the hill. And why's Gabe in Cas's crotch? What I mean to ask is, why isn't that Dean in Cas's crotch?

Rowena, can't you cast a muting spell on Lucifer?

Oh, man, Lucifer tried torturing Rowena the same way he tortured Sam. By annoying her...

Cas tells Gabe that “perhaps a screw-up is just the change we need” to solve Heaven. Awww

Look at Sam the leader!

And LOOK at Lucifer the giant horrible pustulant asshole, taunting Rowena about the time he assaulted, then killed her.

And...back to the camp. Dean's heading out to get Sam's body but an alarm sounds. It's Sam! OH FUCK what if he's possessed by Lucifer. Oh Lucifer just showed up. I guess...good?

I think we can all agree Isayama’s intent on most things has fallen fairly short. Levi and Erwin’s relationship culminating into what it did during RtS was so lackluster compared to what it could have been. There was a severe lack of build up when it came to Levi confronting Erwin on his dream, a lack of backbone in the scene where Levi saw Erwin’s expression post-Clash (the anime clearly tried to remedy this, and I think Levi’s line at the very end of their conversation was (c)

You got your point across really well! There are probably a few people in this fandom that wouldn’t change anything about SnK as it exists right now (except, you know, more chapters ;P). The rest of us would have loved for there to be more depth to a lot of relationships. I feel like he’s so used to killing off characters shortly after they appear/are relevant that he’s gotten really good at giving us the basic core of a character and even hints of their relationships, but struggles a bit when it comes to long-term sustained character relationships/development.

None of this is edited and it’s all stream of consciousness written by someone whose EYES KEEP TRYING TO CLOSE, so I’m sorry if this reads poorly.

Considering Eren’s role as a giant plot device, I think Isayama’s done pretty well with him. Marlowe? Also fairly well done if we set aside my complaints about his death. And like, the only reason Marlowe turned out so well is 1) he died, and 2) he only really had two character relationships from the start of the series…the first being Annie, the second being Hitch–and we know Annie didn’t stay very relevant to him personally, so his primary relationship throughout the series was just with Hitch. That made it easier for Isayama to work with. Marlowe interacted with other characters (Eren, Connie, Armin) but the bigger focus was on or through Hitch.

The veterans are where it gets hard, I guess. Look, even if you just look at… Let’s say Gelgar, since he’s given a PoV chapter and some actual lines. He functions primarily as a narrative plot device, okay. Nobody’s in denial of this. But we get a little bit of his thought process and a little bit of his interaction with his team before they all die. He calls Mike “Mike-san” (compare this to Nanaba just calling him “Mike”), he seems to have wordless communication with Lynne down to an art, and he jokes around a bit with Nanaba in an almost morbid sort of way several times (even shortly before his death). And hey, before he gives up the ghost…he apologizes to Nanaba for the fact that he’s about to die on her. That’s great. It’s not a lot but it’s enough. There’s some good material there. But…if Gelgar had lived he couldn’t just be left like that. He’d have to become more of a character, more three-dimensional. And therein lies the problem, because a huge part of his characterization kind of needs to come from…interaction with other people, and I don’t just mean his own team. Of course he’s good at working with his permanent team? But what is his relationship to Hange like? What about Moblit? Nifa? Petra? What does he think of Auruo? Erwin?

I think what I’m trying to say is that Isayama slips up the most when characters stick around too long, because you can excuse the redshirts for being kind of bland or not having a fully fleshed out personality, but it gets much harder to do that with characters who are around for most of the story and never have room to do anything.

I rag on the way Isayama killed Mike only because Mike’s “special skill” was such a bizarre asspull that it feels more ridiculous to take it back out of the story again than it would have to just…keep it around. Mike’s team was all right, though–except Henning, who may as well not have even been there. (Sorry, Henning.) Gelgar, Lynne, and Nanaba all felt…connected enough that their deaths came with a little impact at least…even though they were barely in the story at all.

Marlowe was around a long time but in keeping with a tight relationship focus, Isayama managed to make/keep him fairly decent. I think part of Marlowe’s success as a character also stems from the fact that he wasn’t in every scene, or even every chapter/every other chapter. He didn’t appear unless something was going to happen and usually that something utilized his skills in some way. His fight with Hitch was a little silly but it was nice in that it gave Isayama a choice in tone. Marlowe could live and come home (in one piece or not) and be reunited with this person who obviously cares for him, or Marlowe can die out there and it’s all a huge tragedy. Well, we know the route Isayama picked, but he tried to make Marlowe’s feelings toward Hitch known at the very end. He wasn’t mad at her, he didn’t hate her. In fact, his last thoughts are thoughtful and gentle and calm. “Why am I thinking of her…at a time like this…?” Boom, he’s dead. And you’d think…well it’s still a tragedy, and you’re right about that. It is. But when we see Hitch again she’s not consumed with this sorrow that Marlowe died mad at her–at least…not outwardly. So maybe before he left, they patched things up. Or maybe she just knew he didn’t really mean what he said. It’s okay that it’s left vague; we don’t need to know the specifics. (That’s what fanfic is for anyway, right?)

But then we have to look at characters like Connie and Sasha who were in the background for a lot of chapters, had a very short character arc (of like, a chapter each), and have since been stuck in the background acting as comedic relief at moments that are honestly completely asinine.

I mean, you expect Eren to be well developed. He’s the main character. But Sasha and Connie have been around almost as long and pretty much exist uselessly in the background for huge swaths of time doing very little and saying very little. Isayama clearly didn’t know what to do with them. :/

Now I’m the one rambling and I know I’m not making much sense. I guess what I wanted to say is that I agree with you, and I think a lot of the fandom does too. “It could have been so much better” rings true. And like, you see where he’s done a good job and you kind of just wish it was all that good. But in the end it boils down to publishing something as you go being way more difficult than it probably sounds to non-writers, and a lack of time to really focus on the little things. I get the feeling if Isayama could show us nice little day to day interactions and stuff, he would, but he has a plot to finish and he’s had that from the start (and has been on deadlines to get that plot moving)…so I won’t hold it against him too much. I also like that the anime is kinda trying to add in small things to boost/support what happens later in the series. A lot of these changes were great imo.

Brett. Is. Back. As. Ward. Amy, I am so stoked. I missed him so much. I came online to download the show because I live timezones away in what qualifies as Narnia, and I saw a "AOS Core Cast Member Returns" headline and died. Heart attack. Started wheezing Vader-style and thinking, "Brett. Ward. Brett. Ward." But then I thought of Trip and Lincoln and Robbie, but *core* isn't really something they were. Mack's the only new true core we've had. Then I saw Aida building that new body for (1/2)

Ivanov and I was disappointed because I just really miss Brett as Ward, regardless of what version of the character we get. I didn't want Ivanov in Ward's body or whatever. But then we saw Ivanov in his own mechanical replica and my mind was eased. Also, what a good Jemma and Daisy and Jemma x Daisy episode. How. Absolutely. Delightful. But onto the Framework subject. I want your thoughts. I *need* your thoughts. Because I have a lot and they're all jumbled up. (2/2)

I KNOW, RIGHT?? I’m SO EXCITED for Brett to be back! Especially as I’m clinging to hope that, after fifteen episodes without him, the writers have seen the error of their ways and will want to bring him back permanently. With any luck there’ll be an LMD Ward running around next season---since, assuming the writers stay true to form, this framework stuff will be wrapped up in the finale.

So, hopes: 1) Daisy or Jemma or hell, Aida, falls in love with framework!Ward and can’t bear to leave him in there to be destroyed, so they build him an LMD body and let him download out of the framework.

2) the REAL Grant is somehow alive and it’s not a framework~ version of him Daisy’s dating, it’s the real him. Aida plugged him into the framework and his one regret she fixed was him choosing Garrett over Skye---hence their relationship. So when Jemma, Daisy, and the Redshirts Three track the others, they’ll find Grant hooked in like all the rest. And then one of the Redshirts will let him out because they don’t know any better.

I know those are both long shots, but a girl can dream, can’t she? I have MISSED HIS FACE and I want him to stay FOREVER.

As for the framework itself, JD and I have already agreed that framework!fic should be the new rock!fic. There are SO MANY possibilities and we want to explore them ALL. (If nothing else: AU where Daisy and Jemma are switched and it’s JEMMA walking into a bedroom she shares with Ward. Because I am a #terrible and predictable raccoon.)

For me, the biggest concern is framework Jemma being dead. Immediately after the episode aired I was full of terror that REAL Jemma might die as a consequence---if you die in the framework, you die in real life, but what happens if you plug into the framework when you’re dead there????? I was TERRIFIED.

However, I’ve since calmed down because HOPEFULLY the show wouldn’t just kill her off without drama. Now I can only hope that she just appears in some random spot and doesn’t, say, appear in her coffin and have to dig herself out of it. Because she has been traumatized ENOUGH already and does not need that.

In other news, the date on her headstone is November 5---aka, the day FZZT aired, so there’s the possibility that this Jemma died then. OR, as JD pointed out, it might be a red herring, as the year is, after all, covered. Either way, I dread this being turned into an fs Thing where he’s reassured of his importance~ because look, she died because he wasn’t there to save her!

Speaking of which, there had BETTER be some kind of consequence for the (beautiful, amazing) fight scene between Jemma and the Fitzbot. Our bb got stabbed, hit, tied up, and choked by her boyfriend and then had to kill him via repeated stabbing and throat slashing. In any reasonable show, there’s no WAY she’d walk away from that without SOME kind of trauma. So fingers crossed the writers realize/acknowledge that and let Jemma DEAL with it instead of sticking her and Fitz back in their little “our relationship is modeled after the writers’ so obviously we need to be deliriously happy together despite these terrible circumstances” bubble.

Anyway! Sorry for all the rambling, nonnie; I, too, have a lot of thoughts.
