Non-BIS Certified Helmets to be Banned from the Indian Market
Two-wheelers are surely among the quickest ways to travel in a city, but they possess a few risks of injury as well. However, these injuries can be drastically reduced when such vehicles are driven as advised. On Indian roads, most of the people either do not wear a helmet or wear poor quality helmets.
Such conditions can put more risk to the life of the rider as they become vulnerable to life-threatening conditions. With that thing in mind, the government has decided to bring two-wheeler helmets under BIS certification scheme.
From June 2020 onwards, the government will put a formal ban on the helmets without having ISI registration mark. This mark ensures that the helmet manufacturer has met the desired quality standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards and are entirely safe to use.
The plans to bring helmets under a mandatory registration scheme was proposed years ago, but the government was yet to make a decision. Recently, the government has accepted the proposal to manufacture and sell only certified helmets in the Indian market.
Without a doubt, the move is a positive one as it will reduce the number of fatalities in a road accident that was caused due to negligence of the rider or poor quality of the helmets. More than 43k people died in road accidents as they were not wearing a helmet or similar protective gear while riding.
As per recent reports, the demand for two-wheeler helmet is going to increase drastically as people will be more inclined towards getting helmets with ISI mark. It is believed that Indians will require over 100 million helmets annually making it a huge target for the industry to complete.
For the manufacturers, then they have to meet all the necessary standards set by the BIS to ensure that their helmets are completely safe for the people. BIS Consultants Delhi will help all such manufacturers in meeting the necessary requirements and understand the entire process so that their products can reach in the market. Wearing a helmet is surely the responsibility of every rider as it will save their life in any major road accident.
