Sam grabs his arm. Bucky blinks, and he’s back to the present.

“Stay in character, or the whole bar turns on us,” Zemo interjects.

“Well done, soldier.”

“Buck, are you sure you’re good?” Sam places his hand on Bucky’s shoulder. Bucky nods. His eyes are shining.

“Thank you, Sam. You brought me back.”

They flick down to Bucky’s mouth and then back up, so quick Bucky’s not sure he didn’t imagine it. He’s not imagining the way Zemo’s eyes darken when Bucky leans in closer, nearly brushing against Zemo’s arm. He’s also not imagining the subtle scent of arousal winding around them. If he didn’t have such heightened senses, there’s no way he’d ever pick up on this. “Not everything I say is a lie,” Zemo says finally. “Sure,” Bucky says. “I bet I could get some honest sounds out of you.”

He has the tiniest inflection on ��charade’. Bucky wonders how much he’s guessed. “Yes,” Bucky says. It comes out flatter than he means it to. The Soldier had never been expressive. “Good,” Zemo says. The praise- it’s not praise, Bucky tells himself desperately. That wasn’t praise, that was just confirmation. Just conversation. His body and mind don’t agree with him. His being centers even more on Zemo and his thoughts start to float. He doesn’t fight it as much as he should.
