Moonlit Confessions

Synopsis: What was once thought to be a fizzled out attempt at marriage might have a second chance
Warnings: implied fem!reader (use of miss and dance cards for regency style traditions)
Word Count: 1523
a/n: here's the part two of this request !! i didn't think it would take this long but i got a random burst of inspiration last night and finished it up today so here it is! i'm learning i really don't know how to do short slow burn but oh well haha. i hope you lot enjoy!!
This night seemed to be repeating itself. Couples twirl themselves like planets orbiting the sun as the small band plays from their spot in the corner. You stand off to the side, huffing as you glance at your empty dance card, your eyes in a narrow glare as you try to find the reason for its current state. Anthony Bridgerton seemed bound and determined to keep the slots on your dance card name free and had yet to name a reason why. Having resigned yourself to moving past your offer of marriage with no meaningful result, you thought throwing yourself into that which your mother had always wanted would help speed up the healing process. Somewhere along this new stage of your martial quest, Anthony had decided that he did not like any of your new prospects at all and made it his mission to see that each and every one of them failed.
“Miss Y/N, would by chance-” a gentleman had approached you but was stopped in his tracks, glancing quickly at something behind you before it looked like the fear of god had been instilled in him and backing away slowly.
You quickly turn around, only to come face to face with Anthony, and the dots begin to connect. This was the third gentleman this evening, and who knows how many that brought the grand total for the week up to? Your mother probably did, you wouldn’t doubt that she was counting off to the side. Your blood begins to boil. In the past few weeks since you had proposed a marriage of convenience to the eldest Bridgerton, your season had been absolute hell and he seemed to only be more interested in your life when you tried not to involve him.
“What is the matter with you?” You scold, moving closer to him to try and keep the conversation between the two of you.
“The lemonade tastes a little funny tonight-”
“That is not what I meant and you know it”.
“Lord Garrison is not to be interacted with. He is not worthy of anyone’s time, much less yours”.
You are slightly moved by his words, though your anger blinds you to much else other than the issue at hand. “Is that for the same reason as Lord Andreas then? Or perhaps Lord Henderson? Or maybe even Lord Clark? But heaven forbid I ever know that reason as you seem so hellbent on never enlightening me!” You seethe, gritting your teeth in an effort to keep your volume down.
“I am simply keeping your best interests in mind,” Lord Bridgerton answers simply, as if it were obvious.
“I never asked you to do that! I am not Daphne or Eloise! I am not one of your charges and therefore none of your concern and quite frankly,” you sigh, trying to steady your breathing before you get too riled up, “I thought you made your opinions quite clear at the Beauxton’s ball, so I intended to move on but you are making that quite impossible”.
“We are still friends, Miss Y/N. Believe it or not, that makes me worry about you,” he replies, though there is something in his eyes, almost like he isn’t saying everything.
“I never intended for you to worry about me! I am simply trying to lighten the burden that I am to my parents by finding a husband and cushioning our lives with a bit more funding, but when you constantly scare off all of the Lords possibly coming my way, you are ensuring my failure”.
“You would that quickly give up your interests for the sake of the marriage mart?”
You glare at him as if he has gone insane, which it frankly sounds like he has.
“Lest you have forgotten, Lord Bridgerton, not every match is created out of love. Some are created out of necessity, which appears to be my only option”.
“But what if it isn’t? What if there is someone out there who might secure you that love match and allow you to keep your books?” This seems entirely out of character for the man in front of you.
“Oh the romantic expert now are we? Last I remember, you were rejecting a poor girl because she tripped over your left foot!”
Anthony scans the room fervently, as if looking for someone before finding nothing. Instead, he mutters “christ” under his breath and grabs your hand, pulling you toward the open door to the balcony.
“Lord Bridgerton, where are we-” you huff “where are we going?” He does not respond, choosing instead to drag you through the crowd of people, no doubt collecting pairs of eyes as you two pass. Once the two of you are outside, away from the curious ears of the ton, he faces you, his chest rising and falling at a rapid pace.
“What has gotten into you Anthony?” You look between his eyes, hoping to catch whatever was the reasoning behind this out of character moment. The night air nips at your collar bones and you shiver slightly from the combination of the sudden cold and being locked under Anthony’s gaze. His silence scares you, and he keeps opening his mouth before shutting it a second later. It is quite unusual to catch the Viscount without words and this is surely the worst you’ve seen.
“I have not been able to look at any man near you for weeks. Do you know how infuriating it is to see someone else chase after the person who has your heart?”
“Where is this coming from?”
“You asked me what had gotten into me? You have. You have lodged yourself into my brain and into my heart and I cannot get you out of there to save my life. When you offered marriage I assumed it was a joke and realised too late that I was wrong”.
“Anthony I-”
“You have consumed me, and I know that I made it clear that I would not marry for love, but watching you sacrifice yourself in such a way has been gnawing at me. Please, tell me you won’t do it”. He looks intently at you, begging both verbally and visually.
“What are you saying?”
“Tell me you won’t find another man for whom you would have to give up everything just to please your parents. You know damn well I have enough wealth and resources to remedy any worry and would never make you give up anything. If you do not wish to marry me-” “Marry you?” You try to interrupt, to no avail.
“Then spare me the rejection and you can head back inside, but I know there is a part of you that feels the same. Allow me to make up for the time I’ve lost being an idiot and please,” he bends down onto one knee, “marry me”.
“Are you quite finished?”
He looks at you as if you’d grown a second head. It is clearly not the answer he was expecting, though you doubt any man would be expecting anything other than a “yes” to a question like that. You grab his hands, clasping them between your own and holding them between the two of you as he stands up.
“If we are going to really do this, then I believe we shall do it properly. To prove you are serious about this, my favourite flowers are lilies and I shall be expecting you with a bouquet of them at my front door tomorrow”.
“I should have known you were not going to make this easy,” Anthony smiles, though the anxiety of your possible rejection is still running through him.
“You denied the easy way out, so you seem to have left me no choice,” you counter.
“But is it a yes?” He raises a brow.
“Eventually, but who are we to deny ourselves a longer honeymoon period? If you truly want to be wed, then we are to do absolutely everything”. Simply because you enjoyed your studies does not mean that you had never wished for romance. You had known that the majority of what the ton had to offer was men who would strip you of your most favourite hobbies for more motherly and homely activities, but now that you had an offer to keep the former on the table, you were going to relish it.
“Tomorrow it is then,” his smile grows, squeezing your hands.
“My mother will be so pleased,” you tease.
“As will mine, though do not go thinking that I got down on one knee for the sake of our mamas”.
“You mean to tell me you weren’t proposing to get to my mother? She will be positively offended,” you joke with a smile.
“You are making me regret my decision,” Anthony teases back.
“You would never,” you chuckle, pulling the two of you so his back is blocking the view of any passersby to try and keep the whispers at bay for a little longer. This moment is yours, and you intend to keep it that way before it inevitably reaches the ears of the curious partygoers.

You Have My Attention: Bridgerton First Lines
Tumblr media
I literally cannot believe I haven't done a First Lines for Bridgerton yet!!! Thanks to the Netflix series, Bridgerton itself needs little introduction. However, Julia Quinn still had to catch her readers, and those first sentences are crucial for that. House rules for this one are that we will do the prologue and first chapter first lines (with the exception of When He was Wicked, which just doesn't have a prologue for some reason), because let's face it: We want to meet both our love interests. Let's see how she does it!
Prologue
The birth of Simon Arthur Henry Fitzranulph Basset, Earl Clyvdon, was met with great celebration.
Chapter 1
"Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh!" Violet Bridgertin crumpled the single-page newspaper into a ball and hurled it across the elegant drawing room.
Her daughter Daphne wisely made no comment and pretended to be engrossed in her embroidery.
-- The Duke and I
Prologue
Anthony Bridgerton had always known he would die young.
Chapter 1
"Please don't tell me," Kate Sheffield said to the room at large, "that she is writing about Viscount Bridgerton again."
-- The Viscount Who Loved Me
Prologue
Everyone knew Sophie Beckett was a bastard.
Chapter 1
"Sophie! Sophieeeeeeeeeeeeee!"
As screeches went, it was enough to shatter glass. Or at least an eardrum.
-- An Offer from a Gentleman
Prologue
On the sixth of April, in the year 1812--precisely two days before her sixteenth birthday--Penelope Featherington fell in love.
Chapter 1
"Look at this!" Portia Featherington squealed. "Colin Bridgerton is back!"
-- Romancing Mister Bridgerton
Prologue
It was ironic, really, that it had happened on such a sunny day.
Chapter 1
Eloise Bridgerton smoothed the well-read sheet of paper across her lap.
-- To Sir Phillip, With Love
Chapter 1
In every life there is a turning point. A moment so tremendous, so sharp and clear that one feels as if one’s been hit in the chest, all the breath knocked out, and one knows, absolutely knows without the merest hint of a shadow of a doubt that one’s life will never be the same. For Michael Stirling, that moment came the first time he laid eyes on Francesca Bridgerton.
Chapter 2
For all his faults—and Francesca was willing to allow that Michael Stirling had many—he really was the dearest man.
-- When He was Wicked
Prologue
There were four principles governing Gareth St. Clair's relationship with his father that he relied upon to maintain his good humor snd general sanity.
Chapter 1
"Why do we do this to ourselves?" Hyacinth Bridgerton wondered aloud.
-- It's In His Kiss
Prologue
His lungs were on fire. Gregory Bridgerton was running.
Chapter 1
Unlike most men of his acquaintance, Gregory Bridgerton believed in true love.
-- On the Way to the Wedding

"It's also proof," Penelope said with a hint of a smirk.
"Proof?"
"She's pregnant! Just like I said."
When he did not agree with her quickly enough, she added, "Have you ever known her to fall asleep in the middle of a conversation?"
"Not since---" He cut himself off.
Penelope's smirk grew significantly less subtle. "Exactly."
"I hate it when you're right," he grumbled.
"I know. Pity for you I so often am."

Bridgerton Audiobooks Included with Spotify Premium
Tumblr media
I just thought I would put out a note to let anyone who was unaware know that all of the audiobooks in the Bridge-verse written by Julia Quinn are now free to download/stream for Spotify Premium subscribers.
Obviously this isn't paid promotion, but if you had wanted to pick them up, this is a great time if you're a spotify subscriber. I was surprised they were included due to the popularity of the show, but they're all there. I'm currently listening to To Sir Phillip, With Love.
Happy listening! 😘

I have a possible fic request! What about Benedict with a reader who gets easily flustered. He’s such a flirt and I feel like if he flirted with me, I would be so nervous and flushed that I couldn’t speak. No rush on the fic, and only if you want to!
Lots of love! :)
Subtle(tea)
A/N: Hey love! Thank you so much for your request! I hope you like it and sorry it took me so long!!
Word Count: 851
Warnings: none
Tea with the Bridgertons was not an unusual event for you and was something that made Sunday your favourite day of the week. The familiar wisteria comes into view as your carriage pulls in front of their house, signalling you were soon to be reunited with your favourite family- though you wouldn’t dare let your mother hear you say that. You spot Hyacinth ducking her head away from one of the upper level windows, her chestnut curls twirling behind her as she undoubtedly raced to alert her mother of your arrival. Their front door opens as one of the footmen lends you a hand for descending the short carriage stairs, and Hyacinth and Eloise are quick to meet you on their front steps.
“Y/N you’re here! We thought you were never going to make it!” Hyacinth announces as she grabs your hand, pulling you faster up the steps.
“Hyacinth Bridgerton, I will not have you bombarding our guest before they even have the chance to step foot inside,” Lady Bridgerton makes herself known from just outside the front door, giving a harsh look to Hyacinth before smiling at you. “It is always wonderful to see you dear,” she remarks as she leans in to give you a hug, forcing Hyacinth to let go of your arm.
You laugh as you return her hug, “I’m simply glad you all find me entertaining enough that I keep receiving the invite”.
“It would be so incredibly boring without you,” Eloise adds as the group of you walk through the house to the drawing room.
“Tell me, is Anthony still pushing away every young lady of the ton?” You ask with a smile as you sit across from Hyacinth and Lady Bridgerton, with Eloise beside you.
Lady Bridgerton rolls her eyes, “unfortunately so. He seems determined to make this much more difficult than need be. It appears to be a family trend”.
“Talking ill about us again, Mother?” Benedict jokes with a tilt of his head as he leans against the drawing room door, sketchbook under his arm as normal.
“Benedict!” Hyacinth smiles.
“Oh Hyacinth, I believe Gregory was looking for you to test out his new marble set with him,” he passes on the information from his younger brother who had raced past him earlier. She lets out a gasp of excitement and runs off, waving a quick goodbye before dashing down the hall. Benedict makes his way behind the couch upon which you and Eloise were sitting and standing beside you. “Had I known we were to be having such appealing company, I might have scrubbed up better for the occasion,” he comments in a low voice, trying to avoid the two other pairs of ears in the room.
You keep your head directed at the carpeted floor, hoping the blush growing on your cheeks was not so incredibly obvious. “So, is your father still away on his business overseas?” Lady Bridgerton asks you, bringing you back to the conversation at hand.
“Indeed he is,” you nod, “he has about a month left abroad from what I gathered in his latest letter.
“Well, if you and your mother find yourselves in need of companionship, you are more than welcome here at any time,” she offers you a warm smile.
“For my sake if nothing else,” Benedict mutters, again keeping it between you two. You would be lying if you said you did not find the second son attractive, and the current attention was only making that more apparent. You clear your throat, hoping that it might disrupt your current train of thought.
“Is everything alright dear?” Lady Bridgerton asks, and you hear Benedict chuckle quietly beside you. You can just about feel the slightly proud smirk on his face.
“If I knew your reaction to me would be this strong, I would have acted like this sooner”. This man and his hypotheticals will be the death of you.
“Yes, I’m just fine,” you nod, giving Lady Bridgerton the least awkward smile you can imagine as you feel your cheeks grow hotter by the second.
“Every artist needs his muse, does he not?” Benedict whispers, pretending to adjust the sleeves of coat. Your breath stops, and you try your hardest to continue making eye contact with Lady Bridgerton, hoping she’s not too aware of the situation unfolding in front of her. “Well, I suppose I shall be off. Let you enjoy your tea and whatnot,” Benedict begins to walk back to the door.
“You’re not going to stay for a cup dearest?” His mother asks, looking confused.
“Not today, Mother. I believe I have accomplished all that I needed to do here,” he looks directly at you. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I had some painting to catch up on”. And with that, he is gone.
“Did he seem strange to you, Eloise?” Lady Bridgerton asks her middle daughter.
“Not any stranger than usual,” she shoots you a quick glance with a mischievous smirk on her face before looking back at her mother. Perhaps you were not as subtle as you once thought.

Random Bridgerton headcannons
Francesca was about 70% sure that pen was Whistledown. She really looked up to her as a kid because she noticed how observant and witty she actually was, and so she wanted to be like her when she grew up
For lady Danbury’s 90th birthday present Hyacinth attempted to write her own version of “Miss Butterworth and the mad Baron” …it was terrible, but Lady Danbury retains that it is her all time favourite book
After Eloise the best shots are Michael, Kate and Simon as they all had experience on what they proudly call ‘REAL hunts’ when in India.
After that it’s Phillip then surprisingly Sophie (Eloise taught her) she says it’s because she has steady hands after so many years of work
When hyacinth was pregnant for the first time Gareth reached out to both Phillip and Simon to ask for advice on how to not be like you father
Kate favourite Bridgerton in-law is Lucy. She loves all of them, she really does, but there is just something about Lucy that she feels so fond of.
Hyacinth called Anthony dad when she was really young and he cried for two days. He still gets teary when he thinks about it now.
When Eloise and Penelope were about 5 months pregnant they both got really emotional about missing each other and so polin went to stay at Romney hall for a month.
Colin claims that it was the most stressful month of his life. NOTHING is scarier or more irritable than a pregnant Eloise. And as it turns out his wife does NOT take his side when he eats the last of the Jam Francesca sent from Scotland that Eloise had been craving.
When they were younger violet walked in on Daphne washing Eloise’s hair with orange juice because Benedict told her it would make her hair the same colour as Penelope’s and she wanted to make pen feel better about her hair
Phillip is flirted with constantly at balls but the man is so socially in-adept that he doesn’t notice. Eloise however does notice.
Hyacinth casually mentioned the whole breaking and entering while trying to steal very expensive jewels from a baron during afternoon tea and Anthony grips he teacup so hard it shatters (he swears that is the closest he has ever come to a heart attack) violet was honestly unfazed
When Edmund was a toddler he tried to sit on Newton constantly. Newton was actually very chill about it as he adored the kid
Gregory had heard about how Michael made all of the woman swoon and was not looking forward to him meeting Lucy. Only for her to be totally unaffected and ‘not get the big deal’….She did however get quite flustered meeting Simon for the first time.
Unlike most people Anthony enjoys getting older it makes him happy to have been proved wrong and know that he won’t be leaving his family too soon
