If it won't be too much of a hassle, please can you explain why you say she has wrecked her money making avenues?

Let’s turn the clock back to 2018, when they were planning Megxit. She was a relatively youthful actress with a royal husband, a feminist reputation and a semi-successful blog. She had contributed essays to magazines and anthologies, organized a best-selling charity cookbook, and edited Vogue. She was a decent public speaker and had hosted several successful forum events. She also had a strong fashion viewpoint and reputation thanks to the Rachel Zane character and her royal wardrobe. Plus she had a charity capsule collection and a solid merching rep under her belt.

Yes, most of those achievement were exaggerated (the blog/public speaking), other people’s work (cookbook, essay collection), or thinly veiled disasters (Vogue, capsule collections), but it was still a good resume. A lot of Hollywood achievements are equally fake or exaggerated, so I don’t think that would put anyone off.

So she had something to build on when she left. But did she actually build on that resume after Megxit? Heck no.

The first obvious money-making avenue was fashion. That’s how she was making money before the engagement and she could have returned to that. She could have built on that in Hollywood, but she didn’t attend fashion shows or galas and she didn’t pursue relationships with any new designers. She didn’t even try. She wore yog pants, shorts, palazzo pants and her floppy Panama hat. The style she chose was very “basic beach bitch” which is definitely not fashion.

So scratch high fashion. She still had writing to pursue. She could have done another charity cookbook to build a wellness brand, or another feminist anthology (with freaking Gloria Steinman!) to build a writing brand. But what did she do instead? A children’s book about fathers. She also did a miscarriage essay. She could try to pitch a magazine idea (a la Drew Barrymore) but no one is going to bite because her Vogue issue was terrible.

So so much for writing. There was still her forum experience which seemed like a good match for podcasting. She could have done any podcast topic in the world, but she decided to interview celebrities and bitch about her press coverage. Okay, so much for podcasting. Archetypes wrecked not only her podcasting career but also any change she had at a talk show or View-style show because she was such a disaster at it.

How about acting? She’s not accepting any offers and her own attempt at voice work was not a success. Maybe a reality show? Not really because the candid segments of the Meghan and Harry documentary were frankly terrible.

That’s what I mean when I say she wrecked all her other options. This is why she’s now pitching for a game show or rom com production.

Danielle:

This is, imo, the single best retelling of Cinderella out there. She has a great character, her relationship with the prince grows organically rather than happening in a single night, and the scene with the bandits is top tier

The story is told as a historical romance instead of anything supernatural happening. Drew Barrymore is a cute Cinderella, Anjelica Houston is an incredible stepmother, and she's also really nasty to one of the stepsisters too, who ends up taking Danielle (Cinderella)'s side. Also Leonardo da Vinci is hanging around painting a portrait of Danielle at one point.

The Drew Barrymore Cinderella is fantastic. It’s got real history mixed with beautiful whimsy! I absolutely love the butterfly wings and how she spoke up for her step mother and sister at the end (and that they were still punished). I feel like I need to go watch it now.

Why Do We Love...

Shannen Doherty

We continue with this series called "Why Do We Love" in which we share the love for our muses on their birthday, and today is Shannen Doherty's turn!

It was the early 1990s, a Friday evening at our granny's. She was watching the telly, "Beverly Hills 90210", with the Spanish title "Sensación de Vivir" (roughly translated as Feel of Living). There was this beautiful tiny brunette girl called Brenda, who had a twin brother called Brandon, and she was passionate about acting, and she was trying her best to be a good student and a good girl, but sometimes, of course, she did mistakes. And we fell in love with her! Maybe because she was petite like us, or brunette like us, or was a twin like us!

Then we kind of "forget" her and, even we knew when we were teens that she was playing a good modern witch in Charmed, we didn't watch that show (I don't know why, since the subject was very appealing to us. Maybe our parents were watching something else on the telly at the time the show aired?). We were more focused on Drew Barrymore at that time, anyway.

But then, when we were in our late teens or early twenties, through a website I created for some of my favourite actresses, I "reconnected" with Shannen! And then I learnt she had been acting since she was 11, and that she had an amazing rock/grunge fashion sense when she was young!

We also found out that in the 1990s she was hated by many Hollywood men influencers, as she was a very strong and confident woman, she was always voicing her opinion and not everyone agreed, so they labelled her as difficult. She was also followed with the press everywhere all of the time. She made some mistakes and bad decisions, as she is human, but the tabloids were always there annoying her, which fe found very sad, as she was just a young girl who wanted to live from her dream, from her art and from her craft.

We finally re-watched all the 4 seasons of Beverly Hills in which Shannen was (the so called "Brenda Years"), and although today it looks very sexist (as Brandon can do what he wants and he is the good boy, while his sister Brenda always gets punished for things she does that are not as bad as her brother's), back in the day broke many stereotypes about teenagers and the issues they faced with friends, lovers, sex, alcohol, drugs, racism, sexism, animals rights... it was interesting to see that some things were very dated but some others were still very current subjects.

We also recently watched "Charmed", not only the first 3 seasons starring Shannen, but some others as well. It might have been one of the first TV shows for wide audiences about witches, demons, good/evil and special effects. I personally loved her Prue character, although not always agreed with her. She was the oldest sister and wanted to protect her younger sisters, and kept them together. I also like that they lived together in an old Victorian house in San Francisco. She was at her most beautiful in this TV show, and she also got to direct the last 3 episodes in which she appeared.

Shannen is also an activist and author, besides being an actress, director and model. She fights for animal rights, she is an animal lover since she was a little girl, and she supports the Sea Shepherd Sea Society. Shannen is a vegetarian and is against animal captivity.

Shannen is also a cancer survivor, she suffered a breast cancer in 2015 that went to remission on 2017 but came back on 2020. However, this hasn't stopped her acting or making her voice loud for animals' rights, people's rights (when her house was burned on a fire she sued the insurance company, and many other owners joined her), or actors' rights (recently she posted about how her acting union didn't support her when she was sick and couldn't work).

She is very strong and despite all the hate she has received and all the hardships she has endured, Shannen is a warm and lovely woman according to her fans, and she finally is receiving the love and recognition from press and people that she's always deserved. We met her very recently and we are very excited too!! She was very sweet and lovely!

Today, for her 52nd birthday, we wanted to share with all of you, dear followers, how we knew about Shannen and what made us love her.

Gwen Stefani and her husband, country singer Blake Shelton, have been partners in life and work for several years, after meeting as coaches on The Voice in 2014. Now that he’s gearing up for his final season on the NBC singing-competition show, Stefani, 53, is also thinking about what’s next.

Right now, the Grammy Award-winning singer is preparing for her New Year’s Eve performances in Las Vegas; working on her makeup line, GXVE Beauty; and gardening with Mr. Shelton. “We can come together on that, because I love flowers so much and he has so much land out there,” she said of the couple’s home in Oklahoma, where they live with her children Kingston, 16; Zuma, 14; and Apollo, 8, when they aren’t in Los Angeles. “We’ll do fields of things. We’re just sitting there waiting for it to rain.”

Here, Stefani speaks to WSJ. about her favorite holiday tradition, why she’s been skipping her morning coffee and whether fans can expect a No Doubt reunion.

What time do you get up on Mondays, and what’s the first thing you do after waking up?

I usually wake up at 7 a.m., because I have the kids. They go to school, so it’s the whole, “Come on, let’s go! Let’s brush your teeth!” Nobody likes Monday morning.

Do you have a go-to breakfast?

I’ve been doing a cleanse, so I just wake up and have water and lemon, which has been horrifying. I don’t get to have my coffee until the middle of the day.

How are your routines different on days when you’re filming The Voice?

We get up, we have our [hair and makeup], which is always my favorite. When you shoot, you’re shooting like five days, and then you’re just dead at the end. It’s very emotional too, each phase of it.

Did you read the story about your fan who was pushed onto the subway tracks and survived? She said she owed her life to climbing onstage at your concerts.

It’s Maddie [Cole]. I know her and I follow her. In fact, I just saw her, right when we left The Drew Barrymore Show. She’s come to a million of my shows, she dresses like me. I don’t follow a ton of fans, but a few years ago when I was doing the Vegas show, I started following people randomly. Then you think you know them because you see them every day. She happens to be one of them.

The fact that that happened to her, I was like, “You need to move out of the city.”

What’s been the most surprising thing about launching your makeup line?

The community. Blake and I will lay in bed and watch the tutorials of people that would take a palette and see what they would create with it.

I’ve gotten to dabble in so many different things, whether it be songwriting or designing fashion with L.A.M.B. and then Harajuku. This is different because it’s starting a business—those were licenses. I’m just not a business person. I grew up barely making it through high school. Everything I’ve done has been so much luck. With this, I feel almost like I’m smart enough to be able to do this now.

Do you sing in the shower?

Not really. I try to take shorter showers these days. I’m more of a bath person.

Do you have Blake’s Sexiest Man Alive People cover framed at home?

We don’t. That’s a good idea. You know what we do have? When we built our house last year in Oklahoma, [in] one of the bathrooms going out to the pool is every single tabloid cover, made into wallpaper. You go in there and you’re like, “Oh, my God.” It’s pretty funny.

What are the odds of a No Doubt reunion?

What are the odds of anything? I was just on The Drew Barrymore Show. She was one of my favorite celebrities when I was a little girl, and now I was just on the show with her. Anything can happen. I have no idea what’s going to happen with No Doubt. We haven’t really talked about doing anything, but it feels like everyone is, right? All the ’90s people—Blink-182 did an eight-month tour that sold out in like five minutes.

Do you and your family have any favorite holiday traditions?

Blake likes to make new traditions every year. We do this thing called a timpano dome, which is an Italian dome, it’s kind of like a lasagna within a pizza. We’ve been doing that ever since I met him. It was in a famous movie [Big Night]. You can put anything in it.

listen I love her but the oversized suits drew Barrymore wears on her show are so fugly. i think it’s the earth tone patterns too. I saw a poll on which suit of hers we liked the best like girl . None of them. the fact that drew Barrymore can’t even make them look good means there’s no hope for anyone else. the dumbest women’s fashion trend.
