The thing that drives me up a wall about the ed and cj discourse is that I feel like people conflate the ed we see on screen as the same exact person he was when we was younger and I just don’t think that’s accurate.
Like I’m not gonna say that those parts of him that liked nice soft things didn’t exist because I think they certainly did but I don’t think that’s the whole picture. I think at one point in his life, ed did not find the lifestyle he’d been living a total bore or a drag. I won’t say that he outright enjoyed it, because the show makes it a point to say “we don’t do this because we like it” because it is born out of necessity and survival. However, I don’t think that means ed didn’t and couldn’t find something to be excited about in it.
The way we see him now though, is someone who has grown and matured and has come to the realization that “hey I actually hate this.” And does try to change that (and is successful at changing it after some work bc he does leave piracy).
Anyway people are capable of growth and change and I think that that’s one of the best things we see in this show.

My nerve pain is really bad, and I keep collapsing. I'm being selfish and wishing for a comfort fic but at the same time being a coward and not asking anyone for one. And yes, I know this sounds like complaining. It kinda is. But it's aimed at myself. I just want my body to stop hurting, and since I can't have that, I wish I could get the courage to ask someone for a comfort fic. Ya know?

Advice on making physically disabled characters?
I've been wanting to explore a wider variety when it comes to character design for a while, and I wanted input about ones with physical disabilities!
I know a little bit, but any and all advice or even tips for drawing are welcome.

oh that little sibling take is so intriguing because i feel like matthew DOES come off as a little bit of a tryhard with how he tries to be on good terms with everyone “off the ice” or w/e (ie being a pest on the ice but off the ice he spits out this bs about how it’s just a game etc…). It’s like one of the more … intruding things about him to me because i’m like does he lack that much self awareness. Does he really not know WHY he wasn’t made captain in cgy etc???Although I also think he also may not be as socially inclined as other guys but tries sometimes to not shake the table?? When he was with the flames there was frequent gossip that he wouldn’t accompany the team on nights out to bars or whatever and if he did, he’d leave early lol
i super agree with you about the tryhard please-like-me that matthew gives off but i don't know if i agree that it's due to a lack of self-awareness? at least to me it feels like more of an excess of self-awareness, like he knows exactly why people might not like him (being a pest, not being friendly in the right ways, being the most annoying person on the planet) and is overcompensating in places
but also more broadly one of the things i really enjoy about writing rpf and being in rpf fandoms is poking at things like this, because real people are full of contradictions and things that just make no sense! we're our own worst enemies and we all do things like wishing everyone would like us while not bothering to do the things that would make people like us, and there's a really fun challenge in turning those messes of character traits into something that makes narrative sense for a story

I don’t really like getting involved in petty drama but I really think people need to calm down with their hate of the new Monster high dolls.
I LOVED the original and when I write about Monster High G1 is where I’m going. But I’ll still incorporate things from the new G3.
The main thing that bothers me with all the hate the new series is getting is that most, if not all, of it is so superficial it makes people sound like toddlers who met someone who’s named like their favourite babysitter but looks and acts different. They’re also acting like AUs don’t exist. Like. News flash! This isn’t the original because it happens in a separate universe!
But seriously. Calling Clawdeen “ugly now”, misgendering Frankie AND fat shaming Draculaura? That’s taking things too far.
Yes you can be upset that Lagoona’s skin is now pink instead of blue and that she’s now Latina instead of Australian but that’s like having an Australian friend named Clara Smith and getting upset that you met a Clara Smith who’s of Mexican decent! It makes no sense.
And the Cleo criticism is not any more excusable. I saw some people call her outfit “Tacky” and “ugly” for having patterns you can find on actual clothes in countries where Cleo would come from. That’s just being flat out racist at this point!
For Deuce. In the live action movie he sort of looks like Wilbur Soot, I admit I thought that, but the “Minecraft streamer” look kinda suits him. Heat’s animated design could be better, he does look like an early 2000’s Barbie movie villain but I’m a little biased since everyone else looks so cute.
But hating on actual people by saying you “hate the new monster High dolls” and that “the series should have stayed dead if they were gonna do that to your childhood” you should have actually listened to your beloved childhood show and realized that its not very Monster High of you to be judging the characters that harshly(or to be fatphobic, transphobic and racist towards plastic dolls).
