Excuse the lame screenshot (the last one) but I just thought it was ridiculous that the ghost on this lot would spawn in the 'outhouse' and cheer on her husband using the toilet…

Playing this family was quite exhausting because of all the pets... At the same time there wasn't much going on at all though.

Damu Orange came over to visit his best friend, Ishum Wolfen. Maybe he was concerned, as Ishum was really not in the best mood, aspiration-wise. He also lost all interest in Arts&Crafts (which they bonded over before).

I think Ishum would have gone into aspiration failure, if he was an adult, as he had a fear of seeing his mom's ghost.

I didn't really know what to do with all the 'domesticated' wolves, but the family couldn't have four adult dogs forever, in my view. Ishum became the master of both Midnight and Balin (the parent wolves), but he didn't necessarily care for their puppies...

The wolves are very aggressive, so they keep fighting over toys and food even when they have a high relationship as part of the same pack, which is quite sad.

I checked who would like a puppy. Otso Imago had 2 wants - 1 for a puppy or kitten, and another one for a puppy specifically, so I made Ishum sell one of the puppies to him right before they would age up. I chose to part with the white, female puppy Asena, because this family doesn't want to breed more pets for now, and Hati is arguably the more interesting-looking puppy.

The game decided Asena was worth $1325 or so, which is quite a lot of money, but the Imagos are way richer than the Wolfens, so they could spare some money to fulfill their dreams. I'm sure the puppy will have a good life there with those werewolf-loving Knowledge sims!

Oh my gosh totally- I am glad you thought so because that was exactly the feeling I was hoping for when writing it! Red Son is super dramatic and cocky which normally is not a big deal, but in this future his normal mannerisms are unwelcome and frankly upsetting to everyone around him, so it's just cringey and awkward when he tries to interact with them as he normally would.

Also yes, he totally deserves it :P

I’ve got to rebuild again... ugh, mod conflicts and resets suck. For my first Kulo Seeri rebuild of 2023, though, I’m trying something different: turning KS’ frontier subhood into its own main hood in a separate save folder, and converting Kulo Seeri proper into a heavily modified Test of Time challenge. Story posts from it will live on my Dreamwidth and be linked here.

Obviously, I’ve changed most of the details regarding what the eras represent, I’m reversing the gender-based restrictions, and I’m ignoring the CAS sim guidelines (I have seven already established clans) and anything in the original rules related to genetics. I do have one slight problem though... (cut for personal issue impacting my game)

I still don’t know what I want to do about male sims. I will definitely keep them, but I’m unsure how my variant ruleset will treat them. It’s not in my nature to be harsh or repressive, but - even though the last fifteen months have seen me overcoming a lot of my PTSD - I still can’t play out any situation in which a male sim has power/authority over a female sim, and I still occasionally want to get back at/spite the male classmates and teachers who literally tortured me at school.

Basically I’m torn between the core gentle, caring nature that wants my game to be a safe place to escape to with as few unnecessary restrictions as possible, and the less than pleasant side of me that wants my game to be a revenge fantasy and says that keeping male sims down is a necessary restriction, which is not how I want to think at all. I don’t know... I just want a peaceful escapist hood but my inner demons still won’t let me... help?

A very eventful round for the Akoko household. First like half the men in the neighborhood dropped by to watch the birth of their firstborn... I'm gonna assume they're preparing to help their own wives. we are in a colossal baby boom after all. Anyway welcome to the world little Oorun <3

As soon as he was in his crib his parents ACR'ed over to the bed to make the next one. I would've given Osupa the 24 hours to recover, but she didn't want any of that! Oorun aged up into the Ash Ketchum hat and bear onesie, which is adorable but we had to change it. Also adorable is how Marama Tuatahi drops in for a visit and starts playing with the lil dude, told you he loves kids!

There were very cautious upgrades to their uh... shack? -that ended up costlier than I thought they would. Also please forgive me - I didn't see any rule specifically forbidding the money trees, it was only because little Oorun was extremely stinky and he wouldn't stop crying about it and they didn't have a tub to wash him in! Feels very cheaty but it's arguably gardening and definitely not a job, so :P and forgive Osupa for being naked so much, there was a heatwave!!!1 at least her skin doesn't have the devil's nips.

And baby #2 made it into this round. His named is Ife :)

Just a quick post today again, as the Wolfens' lives are all about wolves. They adopted Luna who would breed with Hati. Luna is a black wolf generated by the game, so she's very similar to Midnight [Hati's mother].

Luna gave birth to a puppy on Ishum's birthday. I love it that the puppy turned out looking just like his grandpa! His parents are both black wolves, so it came as a bit of a surprise.

Ishum aged up in the green, but because he was uneducated, he ended up having a mental breakdown right after aging up... He wants to marry a rich sim...

But worry not, he is now in the green again. He got a want fulfilled of 'earning 1500$'. He never earned much, most of the amount came from selling Asena. He just got to this amount of money by collecting some weeds mushrooms, which I allow for my desperate fortune sims.

The wolves are all so territorial I had to get rid of kennels. They still keep challenging each other about food. I will need to give them away to other families, especially that Ishum will need an heir someday, too.

I looked into who could want a puppy in my town and it turned out Ishum's best friend, Damu Orange, wouldn't mind getting one. I think it makes perfect sense. The game decided this puppy was worth 1827$.

I thought the leader of the pack would finally nibble Galfrid Wolfen, but maybe it's not meant to happen... They've been best friends for a while now, and that want has been locked for him forever...

My game also finally spawned an actual gray wolf who I will probably end up breeding with Asena (Hati's sister) in the Imago household. I will try not to adopt this wolf for now, as he is only male so he won't need to be part of a household to incorporate him and I like the idea of having a gray wolf running around my hood.

Also I will have to inevitably add more characters, as there just aren't enough marriage prospects for my sims. So I'm considering adding something like a different nation.

Problem solved, gameplay resumed

My problem from a few days ago is resolved and I’ve started playing my Kulo Seeri Test of Time, using multiple copies of pleasantsims’ starter lot so I don’t have to build. I’m about to queue up some gameplay posts. But first, rambling!

The backstory for why KS is suddenly a heavily modified Test of Time can be found here, on the challenge thread at MTS. It involves a vengeful deity, time travel and a prophecy that may or may not be accurate - though I sure hope it’s a bluff.

As for the issue I had surrounding my ruleset adaptations and the unwanted PTSD-induced gender bias of my previous gameplay, I’m going to try a new method of matching sims that's more balanced without being overly monogamous. (I’m polyamorous myself and the idea of having an exclusive commitment is anxiety-inducing, so...)

The previous system in KS was polyandry: a woman could have as many husbands as she wanted, but the same wasn’t true in reverse. I was never sure where same-sex matches fit into that, and I don’t want to exclude them, so I invented the zan/sho distinction. Based on the clan name prefixes that indicate whether a sim was born to a female member of the clan (zan) or a male (sho), I decided that in same-sex partnerships it was the zans who could carry pregnancies, so in those cases zans could have multiple sho partners. I was never completely happy with this system - the escapist side of me still felt it was too many double standards, while my inner demons said I was giving male sims too much freedom - and I was conflicted for a long time.

What I’m trying to move towards now is a more flexible and balanced (though still matrilineal) way, where a sim who chooses to marry can have up to four willing spouses of any gender at one time. They’re not all required to live together, or all have commitments to each other - if sim A is with partners B and C, then B and C can be romantic partners too, or not, and any of them can also be involved with sim D in the tents on the other end of the village.

I’m not sure what else to say - off to prep story posts!

And she was also carrying a child. So she had her hands full. Andreas Brot continued to serve in the Aran Legion. Hell yea, round two! And this time things happen!

So I stayed with the Qallariq household for a full season (5 days) as per The Rules. Since last time these two (or at least Wayta) has met everyone on the island and become friends with Osupa, who visits with her entire belly. I kept forgetting that Wayta was expecting too because her outfit doesn't have a preg morph :/ and yes that's why she's going into labour all flat-tummied. I've since fixed this as baby #2 is already underway.

But just look at little Hatun! He has a face like a prince of mischief and I love him. His mum and dad have also been nomming on mango and papaya, so, all is well. Although there was a super hot day where they both almost passed out from heat stroke, so thank heavens for the "cool down" interaction on that waterfall, probably saved their lives.
