Jamaican Actor TV Boss Produces Track For Canadian Artist Kalico

Jamaican actor and comedian TV Boss, known for his roles in music video’s such as I-Octane’s “Hurt By Friends”, Stephen Marley’s “Rockstone” featuring Capleton and Sizzla, and Busy Signal’s “Stay So,” has produced a new single for Canadian-based Dancehall artist Kalico. The song, “Clouds,” is an ode to marijuana.

Composed for the ‘weed’ capital of the world, “Clouds” tells the story of the effects of good weed and the elevation of the mind when consumed. The single will be released on Friday April 14th through VPAL Music, in time for the celebration of International Day of Marijuana, April 20th.

“This is a good song for 420” says TV Boss, “it’s a good vibe.” Kalico, the songs writer and performer adds “there are no borders for a song about weed. People around the world can rock to this song.” The Jamaican-Canadian collaboration came about when the riddim was sent to Kalico who immediately began to pen the song; “the piano at the intro got me” the artist said.

Recorded and mixed at Toronto’s world-renowned Cherry Beach Sound (Drake, Ed Sheeran, Justin Beiber and more) Kalico made sure the Canadian footprint is stamped throughout all elements of the song. The music video will be shot by MWorks, one of the cities most sought after music video director’s and filmmakers. TV Boss will be in Toronto for the filming and will have a starring role in the video.

In this line of work, massive amounts of studying come into play, gathering materials, sources, resources, examining data, evaluating conditions, processing information, decompressing knowledge, critical thinking, compounding, moments of silence, listening to what's out there, going into your respective space and calculating and measuring, it begins to look like scientific exploration, eliminating in the process, downsizing, honing craft, research, reading nearly everything under the sun, a modicum of what it entails, every cell in your body gravitating to revisiting and pouring into a line, retracing steps, learning as you go, adjusting and going with the flow, your gut, the wind, inclinations, inhaling. What looks like 3 lines on a piece of paper is numerous pages of drawing, moving 3 times, saving up for colored pencils for 3 weeks, not taking a dotted line book from a stack of materials for what may have been a month? A recursive process, a Fibonacci sequence, a golden spiral, a reminder of how natural hair coils, getting to the root of what exists, what feels like an algorithm in nature. This picture is the result of finding the rhythm between yes and no, a sweet spot arrived upon in riddim and exhale. You're bearing witness to a childhood dream, when someone asks, "why don't you become an artist?" This started prior to that. Underneath the context, a baby is walking with a crayon, scribbling along a wall, learning their first steps. A quantum leap, a 3rd grader being punished for drawing on his closet door, in his room, with a black & white television and Nintendo system. From bitmap drawings in Windows, to graphics in Photoshop, some things are undeniable, some things you're born with, born doing, all you, not influenced by the world, just drawn to what calls to your being... Timeless... In this line of work, observation is a must.

Trinbagoian, Digital Content Creator, Musican & Steel-pannist; Joshua Regrello on K-pop, his K-pop Covers & The BTS Army -

Joshua Regrello is a digital content creator, Musician and a Steel-Pannist. However, within the local K-pop fandom within Trinidad and Tobago he is known for playing requested ‘Steelpan K-pop covers’ via the social media app 'TIK TOK’ and another fun fact is that the 'Steelpan’ is widely known to be the national instrument of Trinidad & Tobago. It can also be heard on BTS’, J-hope’s, 'Hopeworld’ mixtape from the song called ‘P.O.P. pt1.’ also known as 'Pop of peace’.

On the podcast 'All things artsy Caribbean alike’ Regrello, shares as both a steel-pannist and musician he is inspired by every artist out there. However, in regards to K-pop, he said when he discovered it, he was quite amazed even though not being completely knowledgeable about the industry itself. He described the music videos as a whole other world.

Regrello, notes that when preparing for song covers he either learns it by ear or by melody. He recognizes it can either be easy to learn rather difficult to learn in terms of the style of the music. For example, he cites Indian songs are rather hard to learn thus not being familiar to listening to it. But also clarifies that the vocals or instruments have slides in it and describes that one note can either have fifteen slides in it which can be rather hard to play on the steel pan.

Regrello, further cited that some of the K-pop covers were sorta of difficult for him to learn, he shares that 'Likey’ by K-pop girl group Twice was a difficult for him to learn in terms of the structure of the song and was not something that he was familiar with.

Furthermore, he touches on being touched by the BTS Army with his cover of BTS’s first English single called 'Dynamite’ and describes it being his best received Tweet on Twitter.

He highlights when he makes covers he usually shares it based on the fan base groups online of that particular artist's song he is covering.

He also recalls the day, when he shared his 'Dynamite steelpan cover' describing that after a day or two that the video gained traction. He noted that he was quite amazed that people liked the cover so much that they were promoting it so well as well sharing it around multiple times within both their respectable fan spaces and personal accounts.

He highlighted it was such an amazing thing to see as well as being impressed with the local ‘BTS ARMY’ fan pages supporting the video as well.

If you don’t know it, Soca is a genre of music from Trinidad & Tobago invented in the 1970s by Lord Shorty who said it was a way to bring both African and East Indians together describing it as a ‘Dougla Riddim’

Romain Virgo Delivers New Song and Video for 'Now'

VP Records artist Romain Virgo is back with a breakout hit and new video for his current single ‘Now’, available everywhere Friday June 9th. The reggae crooner, whose last EP “Lifted” was released in 2015, gives fans a taste of his upcoming album with this dancehall flavored track. Produced by Maximum Sounds Production, on the Skank And Wave riddim, ‘Now’ is emerging as a summertime breakout hit.

Filmed in Irish Town and Hope Gardens Kingston Jamaica, the video, produced by Ruption Design Studio was released on Romain’s VEVO Page Sunday, June 4th. The visuals are perfectly matched with the songs playful cat and mouse lyrics. “We are having a good time, sharing the moment and I say to the girl, after this moment I will fall in love with you,” said Romain about the video. ‘Now’ begins with Romain rescuing his love interest from a rain storm, as the attraction continues to grow, he offers to take her to his end of town. She resists, but ultimately takes him up on his offer. They end up at an outdoor party where Romain makes a very public declaration, that she is his girlfriend “now.”

Growing up in the industry, from making history as the youngest winner of Television Jamaica’s (TVJ) popular “Rising Stars” talent competition at just 17-years-old to winning Artist of the Year by JaRIA (Jamaica Reggae Industry Association) in 2012, he is now coming into his own and flourishing as not just a reggae artist but a versatile musician. ‘Now’ represents his growth and ability to be in alignment with the industry but still remain true to his origins. From the energetic video to the lyrics and melody laced on top of the popular skank and rave riddim, ‘Now’ is the perfect song to thrust Romain Virgo into the mainstage.
