literally sobbed over Captain Barbossa's hugely underrated character development towards the end of the franchise
CB was the epitome of piracy from the very beginning and Ronning showed how the captain found his soul without ever even having one.. A pirate's unconventional treasure.
I love it because the entire series he is portrayed as this character whose selfish actions significantly impact the main characters but in the end, unexpectedly, HE is greatly impacted
and after watching 5 three hour movies with him as simply a character that aids the film's plot - he is given a touching story in the last one that contradicts his whole persona and the audience FEELS it
what makes it even better is the writers (Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio) incorporated this into the film based on a fandom-made idea from the internet
KEEP WRITING & EXPRESSING YOUR IDEAS & INTERESTS
it may just turn into something that everyone gets to experience and enjoy!

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003, Gore Verbinski)
08/04/2024
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a 2003 film directed by Gore Verbinski; produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films and distributed by Buena Vista International.
Created and written by Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, the film is the first chapter of the Pirates of the Caribbean series and inspired by the Disney Parks attraction of the same name. The main cast includes Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, Geoffrey Rush, Keira Knightley, Orland Bloom, Kevin McNally, Jack Davenport and Jonathan Pryce. Positively received by critics and the public, the film received several awards and five nominations for the 2004 Oscars (best leading actor, best make-up, best sound, best sound editing and best special effects).
Caribbean, circa 1720. Little Elizabeth Swann and her father, Governor Weatherby Swann, are in the English ship HMS Dauntless taking them to Port Royal, when a little boy named Will Turner is brought aboard. When Elizabeth notices that Will has a gold locket with a skull engraved around his neck, she takes it from him and hides it because it may be proof of Will's piracy.
On the day of his investiture, Norrington declares himself to Elizabeth, who however, suffocated by her too tight corset, falls from the battlements of the fort and ends up in the sea; by doing so, she activates the medallion, which attracts the Black Pearl, i.e. the ship seen eight years earlier. Meanwhile, Elizabeth is saved by a bizarre character who has just arrived in the city, the pirate captain Jack Sparrow, who, chased by the guards, manges to escape by shielding himself with Elizabeth hut then, finding shelter in Will's blacksmith's shop, clashes with him and ends up imprisoned. That same night, the crew of the Black Pearl attacks Port Royal, seeking Elizabeth's gold locket; the latter is captured and taken aboard the ship to meet Captain Barbossa. Through parley, Elizabeth asks the pirates to leave the city in exchange for the medallion and introduces herself as Elizabeth Turner, wanting to hide her identity as the governor's daughter.

(Archive) Animated movie of the day: Shrek (2001)
Originally posted: January 17th, 2023
Despite my admiration for many of their films, it's no secret I have some quite critical views on Disney, among them their attempt to hegemonize both entertainment as a whole and the popular understanding of classical fairy tales. Which is why a film like this is such a significant moment in animation history: it utterly humiliated them at their own game in the most embarrassing way possible which in turn opened a gamut of possibilities for western animation.
You can rest assured this was born out of spite, mind you: despite being part of the Disney Reinassance of the 90's, Jeffrey Katzenberg's run at the House of the Mouse was quite a mess and ended in decidedly unfriendly terms, so one of the productions lead at his newfounded company Dreamworks was based on the 1990 children's book by William Steig that shared said said views. The hero is anything but handsome, the fairy tale creatures and characters are portrayed in incredibly unflattering ways, and the common tropes associated with the more saccharine interpretations of these tales are lampooned in a decidedly mean spirited way. And it's hilarious. But more importantly… it was kind of needed.
Even beyond the surface level(and some admittedly rather disingenuous) criticisms of Disney, it's disdain for traditional beauty is frankly admirable. It dared to challenge a lot of the harmful superficiality and expectations of normalcy of those films, and as such, of the ideals attached to them. Sure, some of the comedy falls flat on it's crassness and a few of it's parodies are INCREDIBLY dated. But there's a reason why it resonated so strongly with it's generation and survived to be a series of films that still keeps going to this day, with memes that seem to never end. It wasn't just early 2000's edge, it truly had a heart behind the snark.
In the words of William Steig, few years before his death at 95: "It's vulgar, it's disgusting — and I love it!"

The Road to El Dorado (2000)
Tumblr media
It’s a real shame The Road to El Dorado isn’t just a sliver better. With memorable songs and another run through the story polisher, it could’ve been a film that endures, even a worthy adversary for the Disney films it's desperately trying to emulate. Despite this, the film has gained a cult audience and you can see why. It’s got nice visuals, likable characters and jokes that will make both young & old viewers laugh.
N’er do-wells Tulio (Kevin Kline) and Miguel (Kenneth Branagh) discover the fabled golden city, El Dorado, where they are mistaken for gods by the citizens. As they amass riches with the aid of Chel (Rosie Perez), a local who sees through their masquerade but decides she wants in, the con artists must evade the suspicion of high priest Tzejek-Khan (Armand Assante).
Miguel and Tulio (perhaps we should say Kline and Branagh) play off each other splendidly and there’s something very appealing about Chel. It can be difficult to create chemistry between animated characters, but El Dorado does it, a feat all the more impressive considering the three leads’ accents waver a lot. The romance between Tulio and Chel gets you excited and serves a purpose, unlike the songs, which are ok, but not memorable. They feel included because that’s what Disney was doing at the time. Somewhere out there is a better story about someone (or more than one person) arriving in a primitive society and being thrust into a position of leadership. This is a good placeholder for now.
Despite our protagonists being crooks, they're endearing. Maybe it’s the laughs they bring. It might be that they seem more down-on-their-luck than eager to steal. You can tell Miguel is falling in love with the local culture, so when El Dorado’s chief (voiced by Edward James Olmos) begins to suspect he isn’t at all divine, you understand why they aren’t immediately put to the test and then promptly executed. Looks like he became as fond of them as I was.
Largely grounded in reality, El Dorado makes a couple of strange choices here and there. Without giving too much away, magic is real, which creates all sorts of bizarre, unintended implications. Yes, it makes for a cool-looking climax, but was it necessary? More jokes, character development and moments where the trio interact with each other, or with the mythical civilization would’ve worked better.
Compared to Disney’s work in the ’90s, The Road to El Dorado doesn’t cut it. The songs are not memorable and the characters - fun as they are - aren't either. You'd also rank it below Dreamworks’ own The Prince of Egypt or some of the other off-beat animated films of the time (Antz for example). For its energy and humor, it still earns itself a recommendation. The Road to El Dorado is good. I won’t say special, but yes, good. (On DVD, February 19, 2018)

“Rethinking The Royal Docks _ Phase III: Plasticity”, Millennium Mills, London, UK _ Student: Ted Elliott / BA3 _ 12.05.2023
The theme of Transpositional Plasticity has two basic aspects: the notion of transposition has to do with the ability of analysis existing precedents and sites and developing operational methods of architectonic synthesis for other contexts and modalities. The notion of plasticity has to do with the capacity to receive form (e.g., clay) and the capacity to give form (e.g., plastic arts). Talking about the transpositional plasticity of a site thus amounts to thinking of the city as something modifiable, ‘formable’, and formative at the same time, while considering previous contextual conditions and historical typologies that might influence and instigate new architectonic possibilities. BAS2 will aim to focus on a radical critique of the typical approach to form, that is completely divorced from a morphological and Cartesian design approach. This studio will explore the concepts of transposition and plasticity, their malleable and modifiable properties, and apply them to the aptitude of the given sites to respond, remodel, reorganize, and continually change for better ability to adapt to new situations. The proposition is an investigation to the possibility of a new urban morphology that is responsive to the complex network of systems within the growing contemporary urban landscape. Mapping, drawing, and model making (utilizing graphic, physical, digital, analogue, and time-based registers) will be used as methods of investigation and design speculation.
Module 302 _ “Rethinking The Royal Docks _ Phase III: Plasticity” _ BAS2 _ Transpositional Plasticity _ 2022-2023.

Ok so having black butler grell brainriot so I completely scrapped all my old black butler ocs to make a sorta self-insert oc kinda situation
(Click to read more about this handsome fella)
Some basic info
Elliott Allen (might change last name idk)
He’s transmasc and goes by he/they pronouns
He’s a vampire (I love vampires and I am one)
Works at a tailor with someone whom he known since their great grandfather (bc some backstory shenanigans)
He loves making outfits as a way to express himself and his feelings
Backstory
Not everything is set in stone but these are just some ideas I have
Obviously, Elliott was born a girl and for the most part was fine except that they felt more masculine on the inside while still enjoying feminine stuff
elliott was also known to be pretty fragile (ik very cliche) so he picked up sewing to pass the time but eventually starts to like it
I have no idea how elliott would become a vampire tbh, so if u have any ideas, lmk
anyways, what made elliott realized that he’s a man was a nice tailor he met when he was window shopping
he and the tailor became good friends and later he learned that it was ok to be a man while accepting his femininity
I should note that he met the tailor after becoming a vampire
He soon became a sort of assistant/apprentice and continue on doing so for every generation pass down
At one point, the tailor built a separate room for Elliott so kinda like a studio but adding a bedroom in the same room bc they learned that Elliott never really comes out of the shop (at this point, lives in the shop)
madam red and her husband were one of their regulars so elliott had some sort of attachment with them
which kinda leds to the next part
AKA MY FAV PART (AKA A PART WHERE SOME OF YOU MIGHT WANT TO STOP IF YOU DONT LIKE)
OC X CANON FT. GRELLE SUTCLIFF THE QUEEN OF REAPERS
The two met shortly after grell became a full ledge reaper and basically elliott was like “omg you are the one I need for this outfit I’m working on” and particularly pushed grell to their tailor to try on the outfit and omg grell looked so pretty
after that, grell would frequently stop by at the shop during closing hours bc she’s aware that that’s when elliott is pretty much active (she doesn’t know they’re a vampire yet)
it would mostly just grell talking about her work and complaining while elliott measures her for his next week or making the outfit has he actively listens
nothing really changes once the two learn of each other’s true nature but it just made the two fell of each other even more
well… for elliott. it takes grell even longer to kinda realize it
bc grell had always fancy other men, it made elliott somewhat jealous and insecure of himself for not fully being the man she wanted
which somewhat led to having the worst gender dyphoria of his life
grell later catches on and basically realizes that elliott was the man she wanted all her life
bc he did not care about the fact that she used to be a man, and loved her as a women and treated and cared for her like one
she realizes that elliott was basically treating her the way she has always dreamed of, for who she is inside and outside
buuuttt it took a while for her to get to elliott bc he was so emotionally closed off
this is where madam red comes in, she was sorta the stepping stone to help grell realizes elliott's pining love for her
she also helped grell by telling elliott that the commission was from someone she knows very well
anyways, elliott just made the dress as he was told only to find out that the person that madam red was talking about was grell and grell basically was like "sooo.... i didn't realize how much i was hurting you and i didn't really mean it..." (idk how to write this without making her out of character)
grell put on the dress and basically fell in love with elliott even harder and basically confessed her love to him by hugging and kissing him (yes in those cartoon fashion ways where lipstick stains was all over elliott's face as he gots heart eyes)
after that, elliott slowly becomes more open with his life and his emotions with grell
he does eventually learn that just because grell fancy other men, doesn't mean she feels any sort of romantic feelings towards them
it doesn't fully stop with elliott possessiveness and jealously towards other men but it wasn't as bad as before
pov: elliott grips grell's waist and basically says "trying to eye my lovely grell aye?" as grell shivers at the possessiveness in elliott's tone
when elliott meets sebastian, the jealously went somewhat off the roof
he was relieve when sebastian verbally shows that he isn't intersted in grell
but elliott was still jealous of him bc sebastian is partically elliott's dream masculinity (if you know what i mean)
it took some time for elliott to open about it with grell and when he did, grell basically spoils him for the rest of day
also yes, elliott does drink blood from grell and ofc grell enjoys it, a little too much but hey, it's a win win for the both of them
elliott did not fully liked the idea of sucking off from other people before he met grell
he still doesn't but he wouldn't mind if it's grell bc he loves her and she enjoys it
even tho it’s not rlly official (they both don’t know when it will be official), they like to call each other husband and wife
“why, this dress is for my lovely wife in red 😙”
“Isn’t my dress lovely 🥰? My hubby made it just for me 😘😘😘”
Trivia
besides the whole vampire aestheic, he was partically inspired by phantom of the oprea
he can dance, specically he can do ballet
he loves doing the waltz with his mannequin in dresses, but now he does it more with grell whenever she models for his outfits

(Archive) Animated movie of the day: The Road to El Dorado (2000)
Originally posted: January 13th, 2022 I mean, why not. Yesterday we went to the probably inaccurate future, now let's go to the definitely inaccurate past. And believe me, I could spend these 2000 characters and not cover half of the inaccuracies and anachronisms regarding mesoamerican cultures(and the European side of it too, even if costumes are still miles better than the crap you see in shows like Vikings), but here's the thing: this movie is fun enough that I don't really mind.
Honestly, while the animation is beautiful and there's some really impressive set pieces(including some inventive use of effects), the star of the show is the scoundrels that are the protagonist duo (eventually trio) through and through. You almost wish the movie was longer because they bounce from each other very naturally, every new situation being funnier than the last one.
I mean, this movie isn't taking itself seriously. It treats some fairly threatening scenarios with lighthearted silliness, manages to cram some out there adult humor(how did this fly as a family film is beyond me) and even the little drama there is solved by reaffirming the characters' love friendship.
Seriously, this is simply a fun ride that knows it's place and has a good time poking fun at adventure novels of the early XXth century. I wouldn't be surprised if many of it's inaccuracy is completely intentional too. Don't let it cloud your understanding of history but definitely have a laugh.
