Get Ready for the Political Pulse: Modi's Tamil Nadu Surge & Kejriwal's Legal Battle
As we inch closer to Phase 1 of the Lok Sabha elections, the political arena is heating up with fervent campaigning and legal battles. Here's the latest scoop:
Tumblr media
Modi's Multi-State Moves: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making waves with his strategic campaign moves. On Tuesday, he kicks off his schedule with an electrifying election rally in Balaghat district, Madhya Pradesh, marking his second visit to the state in just three days. But that's not all – Modi's Tamil Nadu tour is also in full swing, emphasizing the critical Coimbatore constituency, which BJP eyes to secure this time. With a roadshow planned in Chennai, Modi aims to rally support for BJP candidates Tamilisai Soundararajan and Vinoj P Selvam in South and Central Chennai constituencies, respectively. His itinerary also includes public meetings in Vellore and Mettupalayam, rallying behind NDA allies' candidates. Coimbatore remains a focal point for Modi, reflecting the significance the BJP attaches to this region.
Legal Showdown: Kejriwal's Bail Plea: Meanwhile, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal finds himself entangled in a legal tussle. The Delhi High Court is set to deliver its verdict on Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. Currently under judicial custody in Tihar jail, Kejriwal's fate hangs in the balance as the court's decision looms. His challenge extends beyond arrest to contesting the remand in the Enforcement Directorate's custody. The legal battle underscores the high stakes and intense scrutiny surrounding political figures, particularly during election season.
Nationwide Campaign Trail: As Modi and Kejriwal grab headlines, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is making his presence felt in Assam. Addressing a public meeting in Lakhimpur constituency, Shah lends his support to BJP incumbent MP Pradan Baruah, vying for a third consecutive term. The day doesn't end there – Shah gears up for a lively roadshow in Tinsukia town, boosting BJP candidate Sarbananda Sonowal's campaign in the Dibrugarh seat. The electoral landscape is alive with activity as parties vie for voter attention and allegiance.
As the countdown to the Lok Sabha elections continues, the political drama unfolds with each passing day. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis as the nation braces for a crucial electoral showdown.

Revanth Reddy Takes Oath As Telangana Chief Minister, Gandhis On Stage
Anumula Revanth Reddy, chief of Telangana Congress who played a key role in the party’s thumping victory in the November 30 Assembly polls, was today sworn in as the state’s second Chief Minister.
Mr Reddy was administered the oath of office by Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan at a ceremony at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Hyderabad before a crowd of nearly 1 lakh.
Tumblr media
Besides Mr Reddy, 11 members of his cabinet took the oath of office. This included Mallu Bhatti Vikaramarka, who was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister, and former Telangana Congress chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy, among those who opposed Revanth Reddy’s choice as Chief Minister. The eight others to join the cabinet are Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Damodar Rajanarasimha, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Dana Anasuya, Tummala Nageswar Rao, Konda Surekha and Jupally Krishna Rao.
The ceremony was attended by the Gandhi family — Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra -, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mr Reddy on the occasion, assuring his full support to Telangana’s progress.
Before he took the oath of office, Mr Reddy and Mrs Gandhi held a victory lap inside the stadium in an open vehicle.
The Congress trounced the K Chandrashekar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi, ruling Telangana since its formation in 2014, by winning 65 out of 119 Assembly seats.
Revanth Reddy, referred to as Tiger Revanth by his supporters, has been credited to have played a major role in the Congress’s victory. A former TDP leader, Mr Reddy switched to the Congress in 2017. He was appointed Telangana Congress president in 2021.
Over the past two years, Mr Reddy led a spirited campaign against the KCR-led government and was seen leading street protests and public demonstrations over a host of issues. The Congress’s efforts bore fruit and the party trumped the BRS.
Mr Reddy, however, had a challenge waiting for him. Soon after the victory, his detractors within the party opposed his elevation as Chief Minister. They pointed to corruption allegations against him and alleged that he had taken money in exchange for poll tickets.
Mr Reddy had fought hard to get his loyalists tickets, knowing well that he would not get the Chief Minister post if he did not have the support of a big chunk of MLAs. This worked well for him and the Congress leadership, in no mood to upset the apple cart, endorsed Mr Reddy’s claim to the top post.
Now in the Chief Minister seat, Mr Reddy faces the tall challenge of fulfilling the Congress’s poll guarantees and preparing the ground for the Lok Sabha elections due in six months.

Bharathiyar's idea of Bharat Mata now a statue in Puducherry
Bhrathiyar's vision was to create a statue that embodied the entire Indian landscape, including a majestic golden crown symbolising the Himalayas, which would adorn the head of Bharat Mata.
Tumblr media
PUDUCHERRY: In an event at the Botanical Garden in Puducherry, Lieutenant Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan unveiled a Bharat Mata statue, a design originally conceived by Subramaniya Bharathi, better known as Bharathiyar.
During his exile in Puducherry from 1910 to 1919, Bharathiyar, known for composing numerous patriotic songs in support of India’s independence struggle, envisioned an iconic representation of Bharat Mata in consultation with the revolutionary figure, Varahaneri Venkatesa Subramaniam Aiyar. His vision was to create a statue that embodied the entire Indian landscape, including a majestic golden crown symbolising the Himalayas, which will adorn the head of Bharat Mata.
During that period, Bethris, an art teacher at the French College in Puducherry, attempted to bring Bharathiyar’s vision to life through a portrait. However, the poet was unsatisfied. He proposed that the idol of Bharat Mata should be embellished with jewels, reflecting India’s abundant resources. Responding to Bharathiyar’s insight, the painter revised the artwork, meticulously adorning her with jewels and presented it to him.
The followers of Bharathiyar entrusted the painting to Vaidyanatha Pathar of Kuyavarpalayam who crafted and exported exquisite earthen dolls, particularly to France. Deputy Director (Horticulture), of agriculture Shanmughavelu told TNIE that this statue was sculpted at Kuyavarpalayam and subsequently placed in the Botanical Garden in Puducherry near the old bus stand. Unfortunately, it suffered significant damage during the Thane cyclone in 2011, he added.
Following a renewed government interest in restoring this iconic work, Padmashri K Munusamy of Villianur undertook the task of crafting the statue by staying true to Bharathiyar’s vision. The newly restored statue now stands atop a renovated pedestal within the Botanical Garden as a result of the agriculture department’s efforts.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by speaker R Selvam, Agriculture Minister C Djeacoumar, MLA Anibal Kennedy, Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma, and Agriculture Secretary L Kumar.
