Tsho Rolpa Lake, lying at an altitude of 4183 m, is between the mountain ranges of Langtang and Everest. It  is one of the biggest glacier lakes in Nepal. Situated in the north eastern region of the country, the road to the starting point of the trek (the trading town of Dolakha) passes along the route from Kathmandu to Lhasa, Tibet. Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek is one of the least visited trekking destination located in the Rolwaling region which takes you to the largest glacial lake in Nepal, Tsho Rolpa. Although a neighbor to the most famous trekking destinations, Everest region, Tsho Rolpa remains remote and serene in all its glory.  The lake itself is situated in the Rolwaling Valley, one of the seven hidden valleys where the Yeti is said to live! Although it is highly unlikely to meet a Yeti on the trail, there are interesting terraced fields, fast-flowing rivers, forests and two great glaciers to see as well as the stunning glacier lake of Tsho Rolpa.  Apart from the pristine lake Tsho Rolpa itself, the trek features a continuous panorama of Gaurishankar Himal (7134m) adding beauty to the trek. The remote trek to Tsho Rolpa Lake may be challenging, but it is full of amazing facets of nature to make it a trip worth heading for.
The Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek begins from Dolakha, near Charikot, an eight-hour drive from Kathmandu. The trail moves along the TamaKoshi River for the most part of the trek and also follows Rolwaling River on the upper regions. Throughout the trek, you will have a spectacular vista of Gaurishankar Himal (7134m) as you walk through the small settlements of Rolwaling valley. The highlight of this trek, Tsho Rolpa Lake, a glacial lake, is located between small hills and the surrounding mountains that make the view appear surreal. Also, the tranquil environment around the lake makes the trek worth it. Since the route takes you to the Tibetan border side, a huge influence of Buddhism can be seen in the area. However, we can see the culture and lifestyle of Brahmin, Chhetri, and Sherpa people. The trek allows the trekkers to experience the Sherpa culture of Rolwaling valley as it reaches the villages like Chhetchhet and Beding. The trail is mostly waterfalls, rivers, Mani walls, rice fields, and meadows working together to make the trek a memorable journey.
Orbit alpine adventure, for the last 15 years, has been organizing various tours and treks in different parts of Nepal. Our team has maintained the itinerary in such a way that you do not miss any aspect of Nepal: cultural or natural. Our guides are very friendly and are usually from the local region, but also fluency in English to help you make the most out of your trip. We accommodate you in the best lodges available and provide you with a private land cruiser for off-road drives. So, remember us for a journey in the Himalayas.

Day 16:  Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m): 5 hrs
At Thame, the old trade route over the Nangpa-la into Tibet branches North, following the Bhote Koshi, which incidentally is the 2-3 river so named on this trek. The trail descends gently at first and then steeply to a bridge over the river Dudh Koshi at Phunki Tenga. Passing by several villages and numerous teashops, the trail ascends steeply to Sanasa where local Sherpa people sell the Tibetan goods. The way from Sanasa to Namche has small ups and downs with view of forests, scenery and mountains.
Day 17:  Trek Namche to Lukla (2,840m)
The trail descends steeply downward so we need to walk slowly and under control as our shaky legs continuously battle the rocky terrain. After crossing the suspension bridges over the fast flowing Dudh Koshi and its tributaries the trail becomes more level and natural. Although we are travelling the same route down, we feel completely different views. We snap a mixture of open plains, rhododendron and pine forests, and in the distance snow covered peaks. We walk through the Sherpa villages’ noticing impressive faith in Buddhism and culture of prayer stones and prayers flag while we walk through the villages. On arrival in Lukla, we stretch those sore legs and recall the experiences of the last couple of weeks. We experience the culmination of a fantastic trek on a happy note with everyone back safe and sound with smile on their faces!

Hydropower Projects under Construction
Currently, over 12 hydropower projects are under construction in Nepal. The government of Nepal has developed a plan “2016–2026 National Energy Crisis Reduction and Electricity Development Decade in February 2016. This plan aims to end the current power shortages within three years and to generate surplus power for export.
According to the Department of Electricity Development (DoED), some projects have already been started to get momentum as they are under construction while others are waiting to acquire generation license. These projects, upon completion, which is based in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, will generate a total of 1,500 MW.
Four of the hydropower projects — Chilime, Trishuli, Devighat, and Mailungkhola — have begun to generate power. 21 MW of electricity is being produced by Syafru-based Chilime Hydropower. .Similarly, Mailung khola of Dandagaun produces a total of  5 MW, while Trishuli and Devighat projects are producing a total of 18 MW and 14 MW, correspondingly.
Upon accomplishment, the projects that are still waiting for its completion on Trishuli River will generate a total of 827 MW, while the projects that are waiting to be completed on Bhotekoshi will generate 324 MW.
After being provided concessional loan by Exim Bank of China, Trishuli 3A (60MW) is in the phase of construction.
Similarly, Upper Trishuli I (216 MW) is being developed by a South Korean company and Upper Trishuli II (102 MW) is being built by Hydro-China Corporation.
Upper Mailung (10 MW), Upper Trishuli 3A (60 MW), Trishuli B (42 MW), Mid-Trishuli Ganga (65 MW) and Galchi Hydropower (75 MW) are the further projects that are under production.
Currently, 12 of the projects are being worked upon and are underway including Rasuwagadhi (111 MW), Upper Trishuli 3A, Lower Sanjen (42.5 MW) and Upper Sanjen (14. 8 MW)
After the success of privately-owned Chilime Hydropower, Trishuli Rives has been considered important river electricity.
Prior to that, Trishuli and Debighat district had two projects which were developed by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
Government Liberal Policy on Foreign and Private Investment
With the adoption of a policy to involve private sectors to invest in hydropower projects, the country has taken a giant leap to meet domestic electricity needs and promote the export of abundantly available electricity to its neighboring countries, if not abroad.
The Government of Nepal has adopted a liberal policy to encourage private sector investment in hydropower. Until 1991, the hydropower sector was under the purview of the government. With the enactment of the Hydropower Development Policy, 2049 (1992), the Government of Nepal opened the hydropower sector for private investment as an outcome of its liberalization policy. One of the objectives of the policy was to encourage national and foreign private sector investment for the development of hydroelectric power.
In order to develop the water resources, Nepal is pursuing three approaches. First is the implementation of small hydropower projects to meet the local demands in remote areas of the country. The second is implementing medium hydropower projects to meet the national demand including surplus for export. Third is establishing large hydropower projects to meet the regional demand for energy. Thus, the government has adopted the policy of involving the private sector in the development of hydropower to meet the domestic needs and also to promote the export of electricity.
Cross-Border Transmission Arrangement:
In order to exchange power with India, there has been the construction of the first cross-border 400 kV transmission lines. Implementing cross-border transmission lines to export energy has been a long-term plan of the country, and therefore concerted efforts have been made for it. For example, the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur which will help export hydropower from the Tamakoshi basins has been implemented. Similarly, the cross-border transmission line from Bardaghat-Gorakhpur, as well as the Duhabi-Purnea transmission line, is a further example. All of them have been implemented to conduct excess power from new hydropower projects in Nepal to India.
