on the one hand i'm a bad liar, on the other hand medical recordkeeping is so disorganized & healthcare professionals are so inattentive that even the most unskilled liars can bluff their way through a psych nurse's medical history cross-examination with ease, because it's almost all yes-or-no questions. once you start over in a new clinic unaffiliated with your former hospital system, especially if it's in another state, your old records are as good as ancient history. use another name? transition? even better. deny, deny, deny, & you're in the clear. tabula rasa, baby. i've kept my involuntary institutionalization, psychosis, & past bipolar diagnosis a secret for almost 6 years. it's not their business! they don't know my family history either--no need to get any overdetermined ideas. idk have another appointment coming up & i am just a very firm believer in dictating the terms of your care by carefully crafting your own narrative.

Just talking through some ED crap.

It’s probably triggering. Please read with caution.

Let me preface this all by saying that as a healthcare worker who counsels patients on these things now and again, I know the answers. I know the rationalizations for all of these things. I know why these behaviors and thoughts and feelings are problematic.

However.

I am not infallible.

And also.

Also.

Being slightly hypoglycemic while being type I diabetic while having an eating disorder while having generalized anxiety disorder is literally the worst kind of thought trap and there is no way out of it, asterisk*.

It’s like, okay. Fine. I will eat a couple of glucose tablets so that I don’t wind up with paramedics in my house. Again. But.

But.

What if that puts my blood sugar over what my Eating Disorder considers a hard Allowable Upper Limit? What if I check my blood sugar again in a few minutes and it’s over 5? What if it’s around 6, like my doctor wants it to be for now until we get a handle on my issues with intake?

Then I will Restrict.

Exactly what that means depends entirely on the day, the moment, the mindframe I am in. It depends on what I have decided that Fear Foods are today. It depends on what I ate yesterday. It depends on what I plan on eating tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, and the next, and the next, and the next. Until I am either Better, Recovered, or decidedly not.

I try not to. I try to rationalize, to make sense of it, to leave yesterday’s mistakes behind and move ahead, tabula rasa, but there’s just so much in my head that everything is muddled. Which I guess is how eating disorders and anxiety disorders work. I just hate that it’s happening.

I’m just so goddamn tired.

Maybe tomorrow will be better. Maybe it’ll be different. But today was tomorrow yesterday, and it wasn’t any better, so I haven’t got that much hope. Still, I’m trying.

God damn it, I’m trying.

TIMELINE, pt. 1 i don’t have real time markers because well... you’ll see.

The Final Decade ; This was not a planned event. It came just the same.

Etheryear ; This denotes the span of time missing from documentation between the Final Decade and the Council’s implemented ‘Tabula Rasa’. Because Etheryear is a historical void, no one knows how long it lasted—only that no one who saw its beginning lived to witness its end. It began with the rising of the beasts, whatever it is you call them. Officially, they’re Alter Terrestrials, known by locals in various places as Pitfalls, Trenchers, the ever-creative ‘Beasts’, and so on. Etheryear ended when the Council came into power.

Foundation of Highest and the EAC ; The Extranational Assimilation Council was established alongside the role of Highest ( a nameless and faceless position of power, but more on that later ). The claimed primary goal of both was to work closer with civilians to create better quality of life. Not everyone was sold on the idea, but they didn’t need everyone.

Tabula Rasa ; Meaning ‘blank’ or ‘pristine state’. The Tabula Rasa was introduced as both a new calendar and the idea that humanity could be born anew. Was established alongside the OFSP and, of course, with the approval of the Council.

Outer Foundational Sector Program (OFSP) ; Also known as the sector system, the OFSP began with a collection of promises. Most notable was the promise of affordable living, healthcare, education, and so on. These were available to anyone, but only if they participated in government-approved programs, such as the sector system. The OFSP also came with a rigid set of criteria for who was allowed to live where, decided upon by those who lived within those communities. This led to larger sectors slowly edging minorities out of their own homes in order to make space for “approved” individuals.

The Appalachian Riots ; From Crucify, “The riots were a blessing to all but the Ministry and the Council. People flooded the streets, waving signs which read, ‘My life is not in danger. Why is hers?’ and, 'My brother was a victim, not a hero,' and, 'On the line of defense, Montag Ward should lay his life.’ The Chairman’s name was pinned to the chest of mannequins, executed in a variety of ways and displayed on every corner. Tied to fenceposts, dragged behind trucks, hanged from trees and street lamps across the mountain sectors—it was an impossible message to avoid. “Perhaps the most haunting display was a felled tree, chopped apart and reassembled in the form of a monster. In its jaws lay the dismembered body labeled as Montag. “After months of this, it was Renée Harrison who finally had enough.”

Mass Closure ; An unofficial span of time wherein containment units throughout the sector system closed, following in the steps of the Appalachian Unit. Because the sectors with active containment units are regularly referred to as ‘live sectors’, those which have closed were dubbed the misleading title of ‘dead sectors’.

The Insurrection of Minister, David Eufe ; [ redacted ]
