I'd love to see the language you're creating and the etymology behind some of the words!
Cool! So, all of the root words are independently created but all of the longer words and all that I could are created from combinations of words already established.
This means that I can pretty much show a few of the larger words, break down the etymology, and show a bunch of the smaller words through that.
For example, the largest word I created tonight: Zoatetrmy.
Zoa is 'to guard' while Tetrmy is 'ruler' or 'one who rules'. So, zoatetrmy means 'to guard the one who rules'. This has then become the word used for the personal guard of the nation's sovereign.
We can even break Tetrmy down further to Tetr, meaning 'to rule' and the suffix -my which means 'one who'. This suffix can then be applied to other words such as Forgt ('to lie') to create 'forgtmy' that means 'one who lies' or 'liar'.
Another fun example that my friends and I experimented with one night is creating the names for mythical creatures (keep in mind these are rudimentary or 'ancient' versions of the words as I didn't have time to 'age' the words. As it is, only one or two of these words would actually be used in the story as it doesn't really call for them.).
Water + person becomes mermaid with Wegnoit. Wild + dog becomes wolf. Wolf + person becomes werewolf with Orbmerdnoit.
Sky + puppy becomes bat. Bat + person becomes vampire with Belmerdsmanoit. (This one will probably be changed to blood sucker or something similar as I really don't want to keep this random word as 'sky puppy person'.)
Sky + lizard becomes dragon with Belmyar.
And so on and so on!

Random original fiction update at 2 am because why not!
I changed the map completely. It used to look like this:
Tumblr media
And now looks like this:
Tumblr media
I really like how the new one looks compared to the older one. The mountains are more geologically accurate and overall it looks better.

I love being a writer at times. I just made a queen (who is unfortunately dead by the beginning of the story) and let the queen have wave/waves pronouns because I make my own rules here.

😃 I am so proud of you fellow nerd. I wish you luck in your mathematical endeavors. If you would be so willing, please let us know how it goes - I am curious to see and understand how math works in your created language. But nonetheless, I hope the rest of your day is as wonderful as you are. - math nerd =)
For right now, I'm just going to be switching out the usual 'x, y, z' with the Elvish equivalent, everything else staying the same (I do have a few numbers that look slightly different in elvish but that's a different matter).

Does anyone else who’s creating original content (or planning to) daydream about their fandom? Like, I know I’m creating something that ‘ticks’ quite a few ‘boxes’ of things that fandoms I’ve participated in like (masc on masc romance, lots of fluff with minor angst, royalty x guard, fantasy, canonically neurodivergent characters, queer characters, etc.) and am expecting fanbases to react to it in according with that.
I don’t necessarily mean things like ‘if I write this, what would the fandom cancel me for?’ but more along the lines of ‘I’m going to deliberately leave this character’s AGAB out of the picture as it doesn’t matter to the story but leaves it open for cosplayers of all genders to comfortably cosplay them should they wish to’.
I guess it’s just surreal to me to think that far ahead, that people would actually want to cosplay these characters, but I know that when or if that day comes, this work will be welcoming and accepting for them.
It’s not so much building a thing that will have the nicest fanbase because there will always be rotten apples in the fanbases as that’s just a fact of life, it’s about making a work that is inclusive and welcoming so a fanbase can comfortably build itself up from there.

I’ve at least created the way letters look in each of my fictional languages and am excited to put them to the test. So! Send me a word and a language (Centaurian, Satyrian, Elvish, Gnomic, or Shiftish) and I’ll write it in that language for you!
Multiple languages are accepted.

Hello, dear! You've been visited by the random character question fairy! :D ~☆
What is the vibe your character gives off to the world? How does the world view them? Is this aligned or in disagreement with how your character feels internally?
(Aerin is genderfluid, using both she/her and he/him but for the purpose of this post I’ll only be using she/her for Aerin.)
Aerin gives off the impression that she is cold and aloof, detached from the every day problems of her citizens. If someone were to get to know her a bit better, by spending even just five minutes in her company, they would notice that she is the complete opposite. She cares very much for her people and would do anything to help them live the best lives the entire society could live. Most of the nobles and servants directly around her notice that so her reputation around the kingdom is one of a cold gentleness.
Aerin’s view of herself is a bit different. She wants to be the best queen she can be and do what is right by her citizens and feels that she comes off as too eager or too forward. Her ADHD causes her to speak before thinking quite a bit of the time in meetings that would have served her better to think first. Thus, she is quiet due to not wanting to seem impulsive.
Callon is a different story. They give off the vibes of, ‘if you lay a finger on me or Aerin, I will not hesitate to cut you where you stand’ and have been known to very nearly follow through with said threat. Their fellow knights respect them not only for their station as personal guard to the queen but also admires their work ethics and how hard they train. The nobles could not care less about the hot tempered guard who shadows the queen, silently fuming.
Callon’s view of themself is that they just have one of those faces that looks constantly angry. Their default is livid, it seems to them. They are perfectly fine with having the previously stated vibes but have been known to be extremely soft when in a room alone with the queen, a small smile almost always present on their face in that situation.

Do any of the cultures believe in ghosts? If so, why?
(I’ve only really fleshed out Elvish society as it’s the focus of the book)
Satyrs do believe in ghosts but I’ve yet to worldbuild why.
Gnomes, Centaurs, and Shifters don’t believe in ghosts.
Elves believe in ghosts. Their death rites include the souls traveling to the afterlife. This means that, if something were to go wrong, the soul can get lost and wander Zua until it finds it’s way home during the darkest part of the year. This means that, once a year, every Elf turns off their lights before sundown and lives in total darkness for that one night in case a ghost was wandering nearby and was unable to get home due to their bright lights.

How about each of the languages' names in their font?

Sorry the picture is sideways, I forgot how to fix that. A unique thing about Gnomic and Elvish is that neither of them have uppercase letters.
