Yuu and the Magical Power of Songs
Yuu Singer, Pomefiore (Rainbow Connection)
Yuu didn't know how to feel about the VDC/SDC result.
His friends had worked hard during practice, Epel greatly overcame his problems with Vil and managed to bring back the Pomefiore prefect after his OverBlot. Yuu believed that they would win.
But no, he had to win the Royal Sword Academy and ruin the happiness of the boys.
He had nothing against the RSA; he only knew a handful of that school, and he could only tell that his opinion of them was neutral.
The white-haired young man wished he could have participated, but the rules of the event prohibited any being with "the voice of the gods" from participating.
Schoenheit even told him that it was a shame he wasn't a member of the group as a singer, but he understood that the rule made the contest fairer.
Fortunately for Yuu, Crowley told him to do a solo show to close out the VDC/SDC.
Yuu agreed at that moment, he already had better control of his power and was excited to show it on TV…. Although he was regretting it a bit now, he was very nervous.
"Roi des chanteurs, what is the nervousness?". Rook asked Yuu. "Your gift for singing is exceptionnel." Said the hunter in a breath. "Rook is right! You have an incredible voice." Kalim exclaimed, Jamil next to him assented to that statement. "It's true Yuu. I really don't understand this silly fear, you've already sung in front of several people. Relax silly~". Said Ace with a somewhat mocking expression. Deuce hit him on the back of the neck. "Ace, don't tease." "Nya… the guys are right witty, trust your magic." Grimm told him.
Yuu smiled a little. "It's not that I don't trust my gift, the problem is that…" Yuu didn't even know what the problem was. Vil on the other hand did know. "Yuu, look at me." Yuu looked at the undisputed king of the beauty dorm. "You have a unique gift in singing and dancing, and I can tell you with complete sincerity that you are someone I aspire to be." He finished saying Schoenheit with a smile.
Everyone was shocked by that statement. Vil knew that reaction would occur, but he wasn't lying; Yuu would be the only one he would look up to and admit he was envious of him.
"Don't cry, you'll ruin the makeup." I scolded Vile at Yuu seeing the tears in his eyes. Yuu nodded determinedly. "Thank you, thank you everyone."
Everyone hugged Yuu; the young prefect couldn't feel happier. "Break yourself a leg buddy." Epel said.
That's when he decided that he would show the RSA what he was made of.

The NRC students were upset and saddened by the result. It seemed like either the universe hated them or the institution was cursed because they never won against the RSA.
Meanwhile the RSA students present were happy, they won. Some thought their rivals deserved to win and others felt smug to be able to rub their rivals in the face with another victory.
Everyone in the arena had their opinions, but they had to admit that it was a very close VDC/SDC. As they were about to leave to enjoy the tents set up on campus, Dire Crowley took the stage.
"Good afternoon everyone". He greeted the director of NRC. This confused many because they thought the event was over. The cameramen began filming again assuming that something juicy was coming due to the rivalry between the RSA and NRC. "This year's VDC has been unique in my opinion, but I feel like it's missing something to make it great and worth remembering." Dire was enjoying everyone's confusion. Yuu's performance had been a matter that had been discussed with the educational board and the event organizers to be kept strictly secret until the public chose the winner of the VDC. "I have the pleasure and honor to present to you a young man with a gift few possess… the voice of the gods." The public was shocked. Those of the RSA even more so, those who possessed the "voice of the gods" were usually invited to join their institution. There has never been one to sign up with the NRC until now. "Give a big round of applause to Yuu Ross!" Dire exclaimed before disappearing from the stage with a snap of her fingers. He appeared behind Yuu before he went to the stage. "Show them the greatness of Night Raven College." Yuu winked and left…
The audience erupted in applause when they saw a young man with dark skin, white hair and green eyes; He wore a black shirt under a turquoise floral-patterned vest, tight black pants, turquoise thick-heeled boots, and a gold crown with gem-studded flowers. In his hand was a wooden banjo.
Yuu put his nervousness aside, everything would be fine. He glanced at Malleus, who was watching him closely. He had to talk after this because of the revelations from a few hours ago, but nothing that changed their friendship. Malleus looked visibly more relaxed when Yuu sent him a smile; there were no recons.
Yuu took a deep breath and began to play the banjo…
~Why are there so many songs about rainbows~ ~And what's on the other side?~ ~Rainbows are visions, but only illusions~ ~And rainbows have nothing to hide~
The magic worked almost instantly; the stage floor was transformed into a beautiful green grass filled with wildflowers, the pillars were filled with vines and white roses, and the screens flickered with static until they showed videos of crystal clear lakes. At the Royal Sword Academy they were speechless when they saw a fairy tale prince who was somehow from NRC and not theirs… a feeling they didn't know began to fill the hearts of the most pampered and pretentious.
Yuu looked at Vil, who was watching with the other team members to the side of the stage. With a wave of his hand, he told him to come closer; Vil looked at him and could only see a phrase engraved in those green eyes. "It's time for you to go all the way, like one of the heroes." Pomefiore's guardian walked slowly as he followed Yuu's chant.
~So we've been told, and some choose to believe it~ Vile sang.
~I know they're wrong, wait and see~ Yuu sang to him.
The Ramshackle and Pomefiore prefects looked at each other, ready to show that even if they lost the VDC they would not surrender to anything and anyone.
~Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection~ ~The lovers, the dreamers, and me~
Ace, Deuce, Kalim, Epel and Rook smiled knowingly before going to the stage. Jamil wasn't so sure until he felt a push on his foot. It was Grim. "Go silly!" He growled at the little monster. Jamil snorted before following the others with a smile. For the first time in its history, the NRC felt peace, the grudge against their rival school forgotten as they listened to a song so unique that it reminded them that they had not reached the end of the road yet.
~Who said that every wish would be heard and answered~ ~When wished on the morning star? ~ ~Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it~ ~Look what it's done so far~
Cater couldn't resist the urge and without anyone noticing he ran to the stage, he was going to give a touch with his guitar. Lilia also had the same idea, but he would go a little later and felt that it was not yet the time to include the sound of the drums.
~What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing~ ~And what do we think we might see? ~ ~Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection~ ~The lovers, the dreamers, and me~
Ambrose 63 was speechless. He never thought he would live to see the NRC students unite, putting aside the differences between his dormitories.
~All of us under its spell~ ~We know that it's probably magic~
"Your friend is certainly unique." He told Che'nya to Trey and Riddle. They nodded before beginning to clap to the rhythm of the song. Leona, who was somehow holding back tears, couldn't help but hug Ruggie around him shoulders. The hyena beastman returned the hug, also holding back tears. Jack for the first time didn't care that they saw his feelings and he shed tears at the moving meaning of the song.
Yuu's magic caused all of the NRC students to start chanting. They were aware of this and didn't care.
~Have you been half asleep, and have you heard voices? ~ ~I've heard them calling my name~
Neige was touched. He had the idea that his group and the NRC group would sing together to show unity, but this surprise performance was a thousand times better. "After so many years, you're finally you again." He thought seeing Vil so relaxed and carefree; He met that Vil, at an autograph signing and it was that meeting that motivated him to enter the world of acting. Although when the black haired one achieved his goal, the Vil he knew was gone. And now he was back. "Thank you Yuu-kun." He whispered before hugging his friends.
The most empathetic of the RSA smiled in amazement to see the NRC sing in perfect harmony thanks to Yuu's magical gift. "Maybe this was what they needed to make them better." Neige's fellow dwarves thought.
~Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors? ~ ~The voice might be one and the same~
Cater arrived backstage a bit shaken, but ready for the song's climax. When Lilia felt Cater's presence behind the scenes, he looked at Malleus and seeing him happy with the show, he disappeared from her seat. Silver looked at the empty place of the old one of him-that is, Lilia, she raised an eyebrow in confusion.
~I've heard it too many times to ignore it~
When Lilia suddenly appeared sitting on the drum kit, Cater's heart nearly stopped in shock. "Wh-what." "fufufu~ No time, ready?" the fae asked his friend. Cater smiled with his acoustic guitar ready. "Always". And they started playing to Yuu's delight.
~It's something that I'm supposed to be~
Dire Crowley couldn't be more proud of his students. Yuu had achieved something that in his years as an educator he had not been able to do … unite all of Night Raven College and give them the strength not to give up.
~Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection~~The lovers, the dreamers, and me~
A beautiful rainbow formed over the arch of the stage and the sky turned various shades of orange and red, making for a perfect sunset.
~ La-da-da-de-da-da-do ~ ~ La-da-da-da-da-de-da-do ~
The audience gave a standing ovation and applauded for such a fantastic end to the event. The NRC in its entirety, from students and teachers were made a sea of tears, even the most sullen. From his room, Idia Shroud hugged his little brother. "It was a nice song right nii-san." "Yes Ortho, yes it was." He said her feeling happiness and sadness for the song.
Vil looked at Yuu and when Yuu felt his gaze, he looked straight into his eyes. "Thank you, fellow prefect." Yuu smiled. "You're welcome Schoenheit-senpai." Yuu looked back at the audience. "Thank you all! It only remains for me to say, congratulations to the Royal Sword Academy." He said nodding to Neige. "As for the NRC…" he paused dramatically. "Remember there is still a long way to go, a round of applause to our representatives in this edition of the VDC for such a great effort." NRC students delivered; those in the group held hands and bowed to the audience.
The overbearing and pampered of the RSA finally realized what they felt… envy and fear. Envy because they had such an incredible person and fear because it seemed that said person held them together to the point that they could achieve anything, maybe beat them in their next competition...
In a small bar near the borders of Shaftlands, a old man was shocked by what he saw on television. The old man was fair-skinned, with violet-almost black iris eyes, black hair with gray almost hidden by a wool cap and wearing thick clothing due to the cold of the region. "Friend?". Asked a bartender behind the bar. "Y-yes? Sorry I was surprised by the show." The old man said, feigning emotion. "I imagine, Night Raven College really outdid itself." The waitress said before handing the man a bag. "That's 15 thaumarks/madols." The old man looked into the waitress's eyes and using his unique magic made her believe that she had already paid her. "Thanks for the food dear." The old man said before leaving. The waitress nodded a bit dazedly. The man walked along a path in the woods while he was thinking.
"Damn Nabila, and I thought you had died without giving birth." Thought the old man. Yuu Ross was the spitting image of the woman he married and lost his kingdom to. "So… Yuu, interesting name for my descendant." He whispered with a mischievous smile. "He will be mine and with his gift, my kingdom will rise again". In his hand, green magic sizzled in his hands. "Speciosus, formosus, praeclarus!". The instant he recited the incantation, his appearance changed. He was now a young man of 16, thin, with effeminate facial features and vibrant ebony hair. "It's time to go back to school." He said with a mischievous chuckle.

Pretty Series song reviews: Don't be Afraid
Tumblr media
Song
It opens with the "This Sounds Like Kpop" synth riff, which makes way to completely generic and unremarkable music for the rest of the song.
A lot of Primagi songs, especially the duo ones, sound kind of disjointed or directionless, and this one is no exception. There is a connection between Toma's first line and Hughie's first line, but after that, it's just two guys taking turns saying stuff. Toma's first rap has no connection to Hughie's singing after it, and Hughie's singing has no connection to Toma's second rap. At least, I didn't see any connection.
Even the "you...!" part is too simple to be catchy in my opinion. It's just one note being sung a few times in a normal tone over a completely generic backing track. Although it's expanded on in the outro, so I guess that the second version of it is slightly catchy.
I'm sorry, but I just find this song kinda unimpressive. I'm sure some people like it genuinely, but I personally can't see why someone would like it unless they liked the characters. (I do like the characters, I just don't let that affect whether I like the song.)
Vocals
Both Toma and Hughie have completely normal voices that I neither love nor hate. Actually, I don't have a very good idea of what Toma's singing voice sounds like, because all of his lines are either raps, duets, or edited to sound deliberately unnatural. I don't really know that much about rapping, but I think Toma's rapping is probably better than most other characters in the franchise? He puts in a good amount of expression without overdoing it.
It's not obvious just from casual listening, but both characters have a pretty good range. They can use a full-sounding voice to sing notes that are honestly quite high – the guys in Over The Rainbow had to go into head voice to hit notes that were lower than the ones that TrutH sang almost effortlessly.
Hughie in particular is interesting in terms of range. His lower notes sound breathy and quiet, as if they're at the very bottom of his range, even though I'm fairly certain they're not. (It's the same technique that Kirara's singer used in Onegai Mary.) Also, if the high-sounding thing near the end of the song really is Hughie, then that means he can sing as high as most of the girl characters (in falsetto, but still).
Lyrics
They're kind of nice, generically inspirational but with a little touch of something that makes them feel a bit more... different? honest? I don't know, but they're overflowing with good advice.
Choreography
The choreography, to me, is the highlight of this performance. I've talked about it before, saying that it retains a good sense of movement even during the calmer parts due to its usage of sharp movements and mirroring. And also that it looks memeable. Other than that, there's nothing I can say about the dance that the dance doesn't say about itself.
Visuals
The default Prism Stone stage doesn't really suit the song, but it's far from the most unfitting stage I've seen.
TrutH's outfits are a bit plain compared to the girls' outfits, but they're not bad. They look like something that real idols would wear.
Good points: Varied vocals that aren't the same the whole way through Bad points: Not particularly unique, catchy or coherent
Rating: 7.2/10 Personal rating: 4.9/10

What song do you think fits each of the S2 teens the most?
Or if you just have a character playlist too, I just need new songs ;;
Oh hello!! Ohhh I have so many but no proper playlist- I'll list around five for each teen, if that's alright!! They all have a lil explaination too :)
Scary:
"Lotta True Crime", Penelope Scott
Scary is sooooo a true crime girl, what a problematic fav... In general I just find a lot of this song almost feels like it's in her voice, especially the stuff about the anger of the unfairness of it all and the desperation for connection.
"dead girl in the pool.", girl in red
Hmmm this one is a little hard to explain. It's like. There's a dead girl in the pool and it's actually you and it's your past self and you're watching her float away and you miss her / and you hate her / and you don't want to tell anyone because that would be admitting that used to be you but it hurts to see her not have a proper burial. She's still in you. You know?
"I Am A Poseur", X-Ray Spex
MY LIL PUNK GIRL!! Looove her.
"Feel Better", Penelope Scott
I feel like this one is pretty self-explainitory!!
"jerk", The Front Bottoms
Scary feeling guilty over hurting the people she loves vs nowing they love her anyway. Like. Ughhhh Scary I love you!!
Normal:
"The DJ Is Crying For Help", AJR
I have no explaination for this I just love him :)
"Daisy Bell", by tamachang and CYBER DIVA
Okay so this is less ABOUT Normal and more a song I think Normal would like!! This is a rendition of the song "Daisy Bell" with three computer voices doing a lil trio, one of which is a reanimation of the first computer to 'sing'!!!. The fact that it's a song about love but it's sung by computers, which are made by people's love and wonder and hope, but can objectively not feel it just. Makes me so emo. And I think it would make him pretty emo too :)
"Record Player", Daisy The Great
He struggles with his sense of self bayBEEE.
"Downtown - Uptempo", Anya Taylor-Joy
I've got less of an explaination for this one tbh! More just vibes methinks
"The Chicken", Bo Burnham
He's the heart of the group... he has hope... my boyyyy.
Taylor:
"I Still Taste Fire", Stephanie Mabey
demon taylor... the memory syring... i dunno it makes me emo :)
"Do What You Gotta Do", Decendants
LMAO IDK. this is more a jokey one but it also fits so well?? Taylor would probably listen and take it so seriously. Love this kid.
"Hero of Our Time", Natewantstobattle
Honeslt y most of Taylor's songs are pretty straightforward! He's a hero. It's our time. What more can I say.
"The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny", Lemon Demon
Am I wrong.
Linc:
"Rainbow Connection", Kermit
idk him <3
"Burn Masculinity", The Spook School
This one's kind of hard to explain?? It just FEELS like Linc to me. I dunno I dunno!!
"Be Nice To Me", The Front Bottoms
Something something Linc and Grant! Complicated. "You're a killer / and I'm your best friend." "You say I'm changing / sorry, I didn't know I had to stay the same."
"Interlude: I'm Not Angry Anymore", Paramore
MY GUY. he has so many complicated feelings he gets angry and then feels bad and it's just a cycle and I love him your honor.
Thank you for the question!! Hope some of these work for you :)

Ten year old Emma Danvers jumps awake when she hears a blood curdling scream. For a few moments she blinks into her dark room, confused at the noise that woke her. But when a softer wail fills the silence Emma quickly rolls out of bed. Recognising the cries coming from her recently adopted kryptonian sister, Kara.
Emma pads out of her small room and into the hallway, yawning and tiredly rubbing her eyes as she gently pushes Alex and Kara’s bedroom door open. Kara’s whimpering increases in volume as Emma enters the room. She softly closes the door behind her and quietly tiptoes over to Kara’s bed.
Emma sadly looks over at her oldest sister, Alex, who is turned away from the crying alien. Seemingly ignoring Kara’s pain. This annoys Emma greatly and the sisters have already argued over it. The blonde had even offered to swap rooms with Alex but the redhead stubbornly refused saying it was her room.
“Kara?” Emma whispers softly and waits for the crying figure to respond. Tearful blue eyes peer over the shaking duvet before quickly disappearing again.
Emma looks mournfully down at the other blonde as she thinks of ways to help her. After a few moments Emma lifts the corner of the covers and climbs into Kara’s bed. She gently reaches out and hugs Kara close, remembering how her Mom would comfort her after she’d have a bad dream.
Her new sister flinches slightly at the touch but soon Emma feels Kara settle and maneuver around to hug her back. The alien starts to shake as she tries to stifle her sobs into Emma’s shoulder.
Emma’s heart aches at the sound. She pulls her head back so she can see Kara’s face. The night light illuminates Kara’s flushed cheeks and bloodshot eyes. “No, it’s okay to cry. Mom said you get sick if you try to keep your tears in.” Emma tries to encourage the alien. Though she doesn’t know if Kara can fully understand her yet. However, Kara’s face scrunches up and fresh tears fall.
“It’s okay.” Emma says soothingly while stroking her hair.
“S-s-sing?” Kara gulps out and buries her head back into Emma’s little shoulder.
“Which one?” Emma asks softly and Kara thinks for a moment but shakes her head as she sniffs heavily. “Okay.” Emma purses her lips forward as she thinks about the other songs she has sung to Kara. “I got it.”
Somewhere over the rainbow, Way up high, There’s a land that I’ve heard of, Once in a lullaby.
Emma immediately feels Kara relaxing as she continues to quietly sing. The sisters had recently watched ‘The Wizard of Oz’ with Kara because Emma wanted to show her new sister one of her favourite films. The alien had truly been fascinated with the movie and Emma couldn’t help but watch Kara’s reactions to certain parts. How Kara’s face lit up when Dorthy opened the door to a world of colour or how freaked out Kara got when the Wicked Witch appeared in a plume of red smoke and disappearing in a blaze of fire.
Somewhere over the rainbow, Bluebirds fly, Birds fly over the rainbow, Why then oh why can’t I?
As Emma nears the end of the song Kara’s sobs start to die down, being replaced with shuddering breaths. The twelve year old alien clings tightly to the little human, the pressure hurts Emma slightly but she knows Kara doesn’t mean to hurt her and she is not use to her super strength yet.
Emma stares over at Alex’s back. Not knowing if the redhead was awake or asleep. But Emma guesses she is awake by how she is breathing. Silently Emma hopes her oldest sister will come around to Kara.
Yes it had been a shock when Superman brought his older, but now younger, alien cousin to them but Emma was overcome with curiosity and intrigue over the other blonde. She tried to communicate with the alien and found a way through hand gestures and persistence. Repeating words for Kara and pointing items out. Mainly important things like water, food, Star Wars and everything a ten year old finds important. Once Eliza found Emma talking to the Kryptonian about the different plants and vegetables in the garden and Kara patiently listened. Fascinated by the texture of the leaves and the words Emma was saying. Both missing the scowling glare Alex was giving them from her bedroom window.
Emma then presented the wooden swords her dad had made. Giving Kara Alex’s and demonstrating how to sword fight. Soon the two blonde’s were giggling while twirling around and bashing each other’s swords. Until Alex furiously stormed over to them and took her sword away from Kara. Grumbling it was hers and she was going to break it. Jeremiah immediately set to work making Kara one of her own. Which the two blonde’s watched with tilted heads.
But when Jeremiah told them to go play and leave him to concentrate Emma took Kara back into the house, trying to figure out more things to show her new sister. She had already displayed her seashell collection, which Kara analysed deeply and Emma noticed a crinkle appearing between the other blonde’s eyebrows.
Emma looks around the house and her eyes fall on her art supplies. Making Kara jump when she claps her hands together in excitement.
“I hope you like art! Alex doesn’t really, which is sad but she likes her own things. Like reading. Reading is okay but I much prefer doing something.” Emma smiles at Kara who smiles politely. “Have a seat.” Emma points at the dining room table and Kara complies. The ten year old then pulls out all of her art supply to show Kara. She watched as the alien’s blue eyes lit up behind her glasses.
“Did you do art on Krypton?” Emma asks, happy that she may have found something Kara enjoys.
Kara nods and the pair quietly sit for hours as they draw and paint. Emma didn’t mind Kara using most of the red paint and was pleased she thought of a good idea.
She hardly sees Alex, seemingly too moody that she wasn’t the centre of attention in the Danvers household anymore. Keeping to herself and barely talking to her baby sister.
Weeks turned into months and slowly Alex seemed to warm up to the new addition to the family. Especially when Kara defended Emma against a group of bullies. Standing with her little sister and ready to defend her. Alex marched over and stood next to her side, ready to punch any bully in the face that hurts either of her sisters. This was the moment Kara uttered her family motto, explaining they were stronger together.
The three started to become closer over time and would regularly be found in the forest by their home playing and having adventures.
On one such occasion a fifteen year old Alex and twelve year old Emma teamed up together as heroes to try and take down the evil villain that was destroying their town of Midvale.
“Psfft I don’t see the target. Over.” Emma quietly talks into the walkie talkie and holds her wooden sword tightly in her other hand.
“Please tell me you did not just make the static noise?” Alex laughs while rolling her eyes.
“Ah come on Al! Plus you need to say over. Over.”
“Fine.” Alex sasses back. “Over.” The redhead continues to look around, listening intently for the fourteen year old Kara. Having a sneaky suspicion that her alien sister was using her powers. Which was against the rules.
“Psttf I have an idea. Over” Emma’s voice whispers out from the walkie talkie.
“And what is that?” Alex responds quickly. “Over.”
“What if we do what that guy did in that movie. Over.”
“Vague… We watch loads of movies dork.” Alex rolls her eyes again at her little sister’s comment. She twirls her bow in her hand as she waits for Emma’s response.
“You know he sacrifices himself. Draws the evil guy out and gives the hero a chance to defeat them. Over.”
“Not a bad idea. Especially if you are the bait.” Alex chuckles and shakes her head. “Over.”
“Let’s do it by the fallen tree in the clearing? You can hide and I’ll call for her. Over.” Alex smirks at the excitement within Emma’s voice.
“Sure Peanut. Over.”
Alex quietly jogs to the huge fallen tree. Constantly on the lookout for Kara. But her adopted alien sister is nowhere to be seen. As Alex approaches the clearing she sees Emma step out of the other end and start to look around. Their eyes immediately connect, as if Emma could sense where she was and Alex quickly hides within some bushes and waits. Readying her bow and arrow. Making sure the arrow was a dummy that would only sting Emma slightly if she got in the way.
Emma waits for Alex to get into position and cups her hands over her mouth, yelling loudly. “Kara?! Hey Kara!” She waits and soon enough a blur appears before her. “Hey! You used your powers!”
“Well as a villain of course I would!” Kara bites back slyly with a grin.
“You really are evil!” Emma gasps dramatically, raising a hand to her chest.
“And when I am finished with you I will hunt your sister down and hurt her! And your little dog too!” Kara slowly takes a few menacing steps towards Emma who stands her ground.
“No! Not Alex and Toto!” Emma’s eyes fill with tears. Alex is always blown away that her baby sister can cry on demand and would often use her sister’s talent to get extra treats from their Mom or sitter.
“Little one?” Kara asks, concerned enough to break character.
“They are fake, keep going! You’re doing really well!” Emma gives Kara a smile before filling her eyes with tears again. “You will never get away with this!” Emma yells dramatically, pointing at Kara.
‘Give her the damn Oscar!’ Alex thinks with a smile as she watches the blonde’s.
Kara nods and puts a sly smirk back on her face. “But I already have!”
“No! You will never win! Good always defeats evil, you piece of bantha fodder!”
Alex snorts at Emma’s Star Wars reference and readies herself, knowing she’ll need to spring out at any moment.
“How dare you insult me! Me the mistress of all evil! You are nothing but the dirt on the bottom of my shoe!” Kara yells as she reaches for her wooden sword. Emma circles around so Kara’s back is to their eldest sister. “Now prepare to meet your doom!”
“Not if I can help it!” Alex suddenly appears behind them and fires her bow and arrow at the blonde. Hitting Kara’s right shoulder where it harmlessly falls to the ground.
“No! Ow!” Kara screams and collapses to her knees. “Damn you!” She coughs comically and falls to the floor.
Emma snorts and places a hand over her mouth.
“Emma! It’s rude to mock the dead.” Alex scolds her little sister.
“Sorry.” The blonde tries to wipe the smile off her face and make her expression natural.
“Who says I’m dead?” Kara’s muffled voice pipes up from the ground.
“Well the arrow would have been made out of a substance that could kill you and due to my excellent marksmanship it went through your heart. Killing you instantly.” Alex explains as she twirls the bow around.
Kara lifts her head up and smirks at the redhead. “You hit me in the right shoulder. My heart is on the left dummy.”
Emma snorts again which erupts into loud laughter when Alex glares at her. “Great shooting Alex!”
“Which means… Sneak attack!” Kara yells while pulling Emma onto the floor and starts tickling her.
“Nooo!!” Emma screams with laughter and tries to get out of her sister’s grip. “Please! Stop! Argh! Alex! Help!”
The redhead watches the pair with amusement before stepping in. “I’ll help you!” Alex yells theatrically. But instead of aiding Emma she joins in with Kara.
“Traitor!” Emma gasps out. “You’re… My sister!”
“And? Maybe I purposefully aimed for Kara’s right shoulder to take down the real villain!”
“Dun dun dunnnnn!” Kara laughs out as she continues ticking the thrashing blonde.
“Please stop! I’m gonna pee!” Tears of laughter stream down Emma’s face and the sisters finally stop their attack.
Alex smirks at her baby sister as Emma wipes the tears from her face, the redhead then looks up at the sky. “It’s getting late, we better head back.” She stands to her feet and holds out her hands for her sisters to take, helping Kara and Emma stand. The sister’s turn towards home and walk together in unison, laughing and joking together. Ready to take on the world.
-- -- --
Present day Emma stares out of the DEO window while plucking at her guitar while her mind wanders through her memories with her sisters. Though she can’t really remember the time before Kara came. To her Kara has always been there.
Slowly her mind starts to filter through the session she had with Alistair. They had worked on her fuzzy memories of the attack. How they are slowly coming back into focus but seemingly her brain was protecting her by blocking most of it out. Emma had projected the hurtful words spoken by her sisters that Emma does remember. That a part of her believes making her insecurities bubble up to the surface.
Lily, Alistair’s white german shepherd, had almost instantly jumped up on Emma’s bed and placed her head in Emma’s lap. Staying there throughout the session. Helping to ground Emma and when she got emotional or experienced a flashback, Lily had been a comforting presence.
A noise by Emma’s open door draws her attention away from the window. Standing in the hall was a transfixed Winn with Brainy and Nia behind him.
Emma smirks and waves at the trio. Stopping the music seemingly snaps them out of their trance.
“Hi Em.” Winn smiles brightly as he approaches one of the chairs around Emma’s bed. Emma returns his smile but it is more subdued. “You okay?” He frowns at the blonde, noticing her lack of a smile. He places the food container on the tray table by Emma and she nods while pulling the table closer to her. Her smile brightens slightly when she sees the sausages, vegetables and mash potato.
“Doctor Hamilton said you can start trying some form of solid foods and as I know you like that British restaurant down the road we thought lunch could be a bit more international.”
‘So the Tai food the other day wasn’t international enough for you?’ Emma wants to say but doesn’t write it down. Instead letting out a breathy snort as she starts cutting into the food.
“Oh yea Doc also said to cut it up real small. Chew lots before swallowing” Winn lists off the instructions Doctor Hamilton had told him while opening his container. Watching as Emma nods in response. “Enjoy your bangers and mash!”
Emma lets out a breathy laugh, remembering the weird names the Brits call their food. ‘Spotted Dick’ being her favourite by far. Not believing they would call a fruit, sponge dessert by that name, but had been proved wrong when the amused waiter brought the pudding out for Emma to try. Despite the very off putting name, Emma thoroughly enjoyed it. Almost having to fight off her bandmates to eat all of it in peace.
“Have you been to the UK Winn?” Nia asks, filling the silence.
“Yea I have. Both future and present.”
Emma lifts an eyebrow in response. Wondering what life is like in the future and being frustrated that Winn was keeping so tight lipped about it all.
“Awesome! I haven’t yet but it’s on my bucket list.” Nia replies enthusiastically, a longing look fills her eyes.
“Did you know the British public consume over sixty billion cups of tea a year. Around 100 million each day.” Brainy chimes into the conversation, causing Nia and Winn to gape at him about the statistic.
Emma continues to listen to her friends talking. Wishing she could join in and tell them about her time in the UK. But also being aware of how painfully slow conversation flows when she has to write everything down.
Sighing deeply Emma shoves more food in her mouth. Thankful that Winn chose something she enjoys. To be fair Emma likes anything. Other than Marmite… A disgusting yeast spread that half of Brits like. One of her stage managers in the UK dared Emma to try it. Making the blonde gag and causing her to drink loads of water to get rid of the horrible taste in her mouth.
“Emma?” Nia calls out, breaking Emma’s train of thought. “You’ve been to the UK many times right?” Emma nods. “Have you seen the Queen?” Emma nods again.
“What when?” Winn asks with a mouthful of food and his eyebrows almost up to his hairline.
Emma quietly sighs and grabs her notebook, keenly aware of the silence in the room as she writes.
‘The Royal Variety Performance.’
“Ah yea!” Nia smiles remembering the video she found on youtube after Kara first told her about Emma. She had been transfixed by Axis’ music and Emma’s performance. Singing a powerful ballad that moved the brunette to tears. Nia had spent hours upon hours going through Axis’ social media and debated about whether to send Emma a friend request. The brunette had squealed loudly when Emma had accepted and immediately messaged her,
A knock stops Nia from asking more questions as Emma looks over to see Lucy standing awkwardly by the door. Emma can’t help but shift uncomfortably in the bed, hoping Lucy has calmed down from earlier this morning.
“Don’t worry, I’m not here to yell at you.” Lucy says as if she has read Emma’s mind. “May I come in?”
Emma nods before turning back to her meal. Though she feels like she has lost her appetite.
Lucy glances at the three friends who give her looks of encouragement as she cautiously approaches Emma’s bed, watching the blonde push her food around.
“Can I sit here?” Lucy points to the end of the bed and Emma nods without looking up at her. Lucy lowers onto the bed and takes a deep breath. “So, I’m sorry about earlier. I overreacted when I found out you were missing and you are like a sister to me and I got so scared-” Lucy lifts a hand to her head trying to find the words to how terrified she had felt when Emma wasn’t in her room or in the building. She immediately rushed down to the cells but when there was no sign of Emma anywhere the brunette really panicked.
A hand grasps her knee and Lucy’s green eyes snap up to Emma’s. “Sorry.” Lucy breathes out and Emma gives her a timid smile. “So, we also need to discuss the next steps. Mainly the timeline of your recovery because we cannot disclose the Phoenix serum.”
Emma nods and leans back against the bed.
“How long would this timeline be?” Winn asks with a frown.
“We are trying to not make it overly long. Doctor Hamilton did say wounds like Emma’s would have taken at least 3 months to heal fully and she’d be bed bound for a while.”
“But Emma isn’t bed bound.” Nia blinks in confusion. “Would Emma need to stay here?”
“Or in her apartment.” Lucy looks at the blonde mournfully, who deeply swallows in response. Not liking the sound of that at all. Not feeling at all ready to go back to the apartment. Even after J’onn had told her a crew had made it good as new, with no evidence of the incident.
“There would be a huge media frenzy if any photos come out of you like this. The world thinks you can barely open your eyes and hardly move due to the amount of broken bones you have.”
Alarm fills Emma and she quickly grabs her notebook to write.
‘Robyn?!’
“Ah yea. I had her sign a NDA.” Lucy rolls her eyes. “She was annoyingly persistent. I thought you hated each other?” Emma shakes her head and lets out a breathy chuckle. “Jack isn’t far behind, though I’m trying to hold him off for as long as possible.”
Relief starts to filter in and Emma nods before starting to write again. She bites the inside of her lip at the thought of returning back to her apartment. Not sure she’s ready or even wants to go back there.
‘How do you propose we move forward?’ She holds the pad up and watches her friend’s face as she reads.
Lucy hesitates slightly before unlocking her tablet to bring up the timeline. “We will need to stage photos and videos showing your recovery and release them at the right time.” Lucy looks down at her notes. “We do have some already but I’d be happier if we do more.”
Emma glumly sighs causing Lucy to glance back up at her.
“I’m sorry Em but we need to do this to keep the media off our backs. J’onn and I had hoped it would have died down but everyone is still up in arms about what happened.”
Emma’s expression morphs into one of shock and disbelief. She quickly writes one word before showing the lawyer.
‘Why?’
“Because those that listen to your music feel a powerful connection towards you. Even though they have not met you or know you personally.” Brainy explains simply.
“And the attack has brought your music to the attention of more people.” Winn points out.
“Tell me about it.” Lucy says exasperatedly and runs a hand through her hair. “I had a three hour debate with your record label as they want to release the work you’ve done on your new album. Even the covers you’ve been sending Lena.”
Emma immediately shakes her head quickly at the idea. Causing a ringing in her ears.
“Yea I told them they can shove it.” Lucy agrees and quickly takes a piece of sausage from Emma’s container. Almost getting her hand stabbed from Emma’s fork.
Emma playfully glares at the brunette and Lucy sticks her tongue out before popping the meat into her mouth. Emma shakes her head and starts writing.
‘So I will be under house arrest?’
“I’m afraid so.” Lucy says softly, causing Emma’s shoulders to slump and her expression becomes sullen.
“I may be able to help with that.” Winn pipes up, causing Emma and Lucy to stare at him. “I, with Brainy and Lena’s help, could develop a face modifier. That way Emma can move around freely and not disrupt the timeline.”
“That could work.” Lucy squints her eyes as she considers the idea.
“May help Alex and Kara to know Emma is moving around too. I’ve never seen them so broken, I mean poor Alex, you would have thought Kelly would have stood by her and not run away-” Nia comments passionately and Emma freezes.
Horror fills Emma's whole body. She remembers Alex telling her the morning before the attack that she and Kelly were having problems but Emma never imagined Kelly would leave Alex like this. Especially with what her sister is going through.
Immediately Emma leaps out of bed and sprints to the door. She needs to see her sisters. Her heart aches knowing they are both in pain. That they are broken.
“Emma?!” Her friends yells fill the hallway as they chase after her. Agents seemingly appear ahead of her but the blonde easily sidesteps them. Using the training Alex had taught her in self defence.
As soon as she reaches the end of the corridor the blonde slides into the wall and repeatedly slams her hand on the elevator button. When it becomes obvious the doors won’t open quick enough she dashes towards the door to the stairs. Her determination gives her tunnel vision and she ignores those around her.
Until someone leaps on her back.
“Emma stop!” Lucy yells as she clings to Emma, wrapping her arms and legs around the blonde. Halting Emma from leaving the floor. “I’m sorry but they aren’t ready to see you. I’m so sorry.”
Emma tries to get Lucy off her back but the brunette has too good a grip. The blonde heaves in heavy breaths and her face scrunches up as she starts to silently cry. She longs to hold her sisters. To reassure them they are okay.
A ping announces an elevator has arrived. Emma turns her head to gaze longingly at it but feels Lucy’s grip tighten around her chest.
“Emma please.”
The blonde watches mournfully as the doors close.
When it becomes apparent that Emma won’t be running down to the cells Lucy slides off her back.
The brunette sadly looks at the tears streaming down her friend’s face. Placing a gentle hand on Emma’s shoulder Lucy guides her back to the room.
“Emma.” Nia squeaks out with wide eyes as she walks with the pair. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t think-”
The blonde reaches out and squeezes Nia’s hand. Giving her a barely there smile which Nia returns with an encouraging one of her own.
Emma re-enters the room and sits heavily on her bed. Staring out of the window.
“Em?” Winn asks softly, causing Emma to slightly move her head and focus on him. “Are you gonna finish that?” Winn points at the half eaten food.
Emma shakes her head before turning back to the window. She ignores the yelp of pain from Winn when Lucy slaps his arm as he reaches out for the discarded food. Purposefully tuning out the conversation in the room.
Instead, focusing on the world outside of the DEO. The airplanes that zoom across the sky, the birds that flutter past the window and settle on the sill. The traffic down an avenue she can see. Anything to try and keep her mind from acknowledging the pain she’s feeling. The thoughts that are screaming in her mind about her sisters.
“-ma?” Winn’s voice breaks through as she recognises he’s calling out to her. Slowly she turns to look at him. “We’re going back to work. I- er- left your food.”
Emma looks down at the tray and sees that Winn hasn’t touched it. She nods and lifts the right corner of her mouth slightly to show her appreciation.
Emma eyes flick to Nia as she cautiously approaches her. “Can I give you a hug?” Emma nods and opens her arms. Nia immediately dives into them. “Message me if you need me.” Emma nods again and squeezes the superhero. When Nia steps back Winn is already there with his arms open, waiting for a hug. Making Emma voicelessly snort.
“Ah come on!” Winn whines and Emma motions for him to hug her. He does immediately and Emma can’t help but feel more of her anxiety melt away. “If you need anything just give a shout.” Winn says as he pulls away. Emma raises an eyebrow at him and can’t help but smile at the look of horror that comes across his face. Especially when Brainy, Nia and Lucy lower their heads into their hands. “Em. I’m so sorry I-”
Emma immediately lifts a hand to his lips, silencing him. Thankfully he complies, instead gaping at her like a goldfish.
“See you later Emma.” Brainy nods at her before quickly leaving the room, already analysing his tablet at ideas for a face modifier. Nia forcefully grabs Winn’s hand and pulls him out with her.
“I can stay if you want me to?” Lucy asks as she hovers by the bed and massages her shoulder.
Emma is tempted to shake her head but instead she nods. Not wanting to be alone right now.
“Okay great!” Lucy beams at her. “Do you want to do anything? I mean I have work I can be doing but I can watch a film with you or we could play a card game? Chess?”
Emma looks over at the chessboard on the coffee table by the sofa. Lena had brought it in to give Emma something else to do. But the board is currently being taken up by an intense game the girlfriends were playing. Emma reaches for her notebook and writes a response.
‘Lena will immediately say she’s won if we mess the board up.’
“Ah! We can’t have that!” Lucy jokes and sits on the end of Emma’s bed. Her expression becomes sombre as she studies the blonde closely and Emma stares right back. “Are you okay?”
Emma looks between Lucy’s questioning green eyes and slowly shakes her head.
Lucy reaches out and gently holds Emma’s hand. “I’m here if you want to discuss it.”
Emma’s eyes start to glisten with tears and she wipes at them in exasperation.
“Hey, hey, hey.” Lucy grabs Emma’s hand to halt her rubbing. “It’s okay to cry. God knows I’m done my fair share recently.”
Emma tilts her head and frowns slightly.
“What?” Lucy mirrors Emma’s expression. The blonde lets go of Lucy’s hand and starts writing.
‘What do you mean?’
“About what?” Lucy asks, confusion written across her face.
‘What have you been crying about?’
“About you! And Alex and Kara! This whole shit show!” Lucy says bitterly and watches Emma move her pen to paper. “And don’t even think about writing that you are not worth my tears cause you fucking are!”
Emma eyes’s snap up to Lucy’s and her mouth drops open. She was going to write exactly that.
“I’m right aren’t I?”
Emma shuts her mouth and shakes her head.
“Bull.” Lucy narrows her eyes. “Have you forgotten I am a lawyer? And a damn good one at that?”
Emma smiles sadly and looks down to write. ‘Yea you are. Frustratingly so.’
“Unless I’m the one defending you right?” Lucy raises an eyebrow and Emma nods, her smile turning more genuine. “So, do you wanna write about it? You don’t have to, I just-” Lucy hesitates, sighing deeply as she chooses her words. “I worry about you and I wish I could make everything better.”
‘I know.’
“You totally wrote that with Han Solo in mind didn’t you?”
Emma lets out a breathy snort and Lucy laughs loudly.
“You're such a nerd.” Lucy teases and Emma just shrugs. But her smile fades and the blonde gazes down at the paper as she thinks about her sisters. “Em?”
Emma takes a breath and starts writing. Lucy watches her and the expressions Emma makes as she scribbles her thoughts down. In these moments Lucy really misses Emma’s voice and her anger bubbles up at whoever did this to her friend. But before Lucy’s anger simmers up anymore Emma turns the notepad around.
‘I just feel so helpless. We’ve always done everything together and I’m happy they have each other but I want to be there with them. Dad always joked we were like a three legged stool. When one of us wasn’t at home we almost couldn’t function. I get what you are saying that they aren’t ready to see me... But I just miss them so much.’
“Aw Em.” Lucy says sympathetically after she reads. Her eyes flick back up to Emma’s. “It will get better. I know that doesn’t help right now. But, it will.”
Emma nods and leans back against the bed.
“So, what do you want to do?”
‘Okay if I paint?’
“Of course it is! I’ll just work here on my tablet.” Lucy smiles reassuringly at Emma and hops off the bed. She pauses and turns back around to Emma. “Hug?”
Emma smiles and opens her arms. Lucy wraps her arms around the blonde and tries to convey how much she cares for her in it.
After Lucy sits in a chair to work she can’t help but watch how Emma morphs into her creative mode. How the blonde focuses solely on what she’s doing with her paint brush. The way Emma’s eyes squint and her tongue slightly pokes out to the side.
Lucy smiles and tries to concentrate on her own work. Leaving the pair in peaceful silence.
-- -- --
Many hours later there is a knock on the door. Lucy glances up as Lena and Sam enter the room.
“Hi!” Lucy greets the friends happily and turns to look at Emma. The blonde is still so busy with what she’s doing she hasn’t noticed the new arrivals.
It’s only when Emma cleans her brushes, happy with what she’s done, does she sense Lena’s presence in the room. She quickly looks up towards the sofa where Lena, Sam and Lucy are sitting. Seemingly halting their conversation as the trio notice Emma’s focus on them. Lena can’t help but greet her girlfriend with a beaming smile.
“Hi love.” Lena says while standing and approaches the blonde. Emma waves at her but gives her a questioning look. “I didn’t want to disturb you.” Lena gracefully sits on the bed next to Emma and softly kisses the blonde’s lips. “You were so engrossed in what you were doing.”
“Sorry.”
“No don’t be! I’m glad you are painting.” Lena smiles reassuringly at her girlfriend. Her smiles then morphs into a shy one. “I- er- got you something.”
Emma tilts her head and her eyes bulge when Lena lifts a huge bouquet of flowers up. Having not noticed them when the raven haired beauty walked in or when she came over to the bed.
“Wow!” Emma signs and she reaches out to touch a red rose. Feeling the softness of the petal and admiring the colour.
“The florist told me the roses mean love, obviously. The baby breath is everlasting love. The-” Lena pauses as she tries to remember the meaning of the other flowers. Emma starts kissing her cheek making Lena beam and lean into them. “Em! I’m trying to think!” Emma pulls away and rests her chin on Lena’s shoulder. “So, the daisies are my love is pure and the tulips all have different meanings, the red being eternal love, the orange desire and passion, yellow happiness and sunshine and the cream tulips-” Lena gently moves her girlfriend’s head so she can gaze deeply into Emma’s slightly bloodshot eyes. “I will love you forever.”
She watches as Emma melts and her eyes glisten with tears. The blonde tilts her head and slowly leans towards her girlfriend. Lena copies her and they gently kiss but before they can deepen it further and noise fills the room.
“Blurgh!” Lucy yells out, pretending to heave. Emma furiously pulls away and flips her off. Glaring at the brunette before turning back to her girlfriend.
“Thank you. I love them.”
“I’m glad.” Lena smirks at the blonde and Emma carefully places the bouquet on the tray table. Making sure not to knock any of the other stuff on there. “So, how's your head?”
“Haven’t had any complaints yet.” Emma signs cheekily and Lena roars with laughter.
“What did she say?” Sam looks between the two girlfriends, wanting to know why Lena reacted the way she did.
“Haven’t had any complaints yet.” Lena responds while continuing to laugh, causing the two brunettes to join in with her and Emma just smiles happily at them as she snuggles into her girlfriend.

finally got around to listening to sketches 3d today and man! man! oh boy! liveblog under the cut!
-piano. exactly what i was expecting
-vibrato huh
-ayyy that's some. funky percussion
-this is like the fullerenes or something. a song about an Interesting Lady
-and there's that one grainy string synth/sample that andrew uses a lot & also appears in hawaii part ii
-more percussion. this is so cool
-i wasn't expecting this to be quite so minor key
-man if that was courtney on the flute there i think that'd be sick
-sing it andrew!
-i'm already having a more cheery time than i did with nat
-zubin???
-i will absolutely have to review that voice
-wait what the fuck is happening to her
-darling you good?
-anyway. classic andrew horowitz funky out-of-tune synths
-rattle rattle
-more out of tune piano. what song is this
-oh shit!!! this is the song my friends like
-tambourine <3
-you & me? sides of a coin? good & evil?
-so weird hearing all these lyrics i've seen in the song channel sung aloud for real
-andrew is doing some good singing here. he's good at carrying the melody on his own even though i've not heard much of that from him in the past save fate of the stars maybe
-he's always been good at that percussion
-all different types of percussion. tinny little gong like it's the whole world & you acoustic
-tambourine <3 <3
-so incredibly weird knowing what the lyrics are going to be without knowing what the song sounds like. i know how these words go in order but don't know how the melody carries them
-interesting thing about sketches so far. it's very strong & powerful but it doesn't block out the world like other new songs will. i'm not being taken somewhere else it's more like the whole rest of the world is being highlighted
-alright what's next?
-7/4 hummingbird????? or is this 6/4???
-no no no it's 5/4 and doing funky things with the onbeat i love this
-asking questions to a little creature is the best kind of pasttime and i mean that
-man andrew mixed this really well he's just. incredible at that
-he's making each song distnict while also giving sketches a clear theme
-a minor turn. i like that
-now what could this be?
-not lemons & pears yet?
-daisy fingers hell yes
-another song about a lady
-spoke mostly harmony oh you clever man
-thank you andrew for doing more with time signatures than tally hall ever did. first 5/4 and now 6/8
-the combination of very out of tune & rough percussions and incredibly beep bloopy synths is so cool
-conversations with a lady. this feels like a story of andrew visiting another world and being like "might as well write some songs about the fellows and stories round here"
-the whole album, i mean
-i am inspired by you, andrew
-this whole album is everything i could've hoped for and more
-the interesting thing about it is how few questions i find myself asking. i'm just looking at this stuff i have and being like wow! &, cool! not what i usually do with new albums
-divine inspiration bay be
-that's like. the opposite of an 80s fadeout
-oh that is absolutely the little sfx from the beginning of perfect at the end
-wait speaking of at the end
-no this is have a nice day interludinal
-is this a polyrhythm? there's a 4/4 type thing in the background and the foreground is. not on the onbeat i can say that much
-man i am going to have a nice day
-he's a good musician, able to make so much music out of a single interval
-lemons & pears!!!!
-toy orchestra my beloved that's the fuckin toy piano bay be wooooo
-but man oh boy does this sound absolutely different with only a one single guy singing
-ukulele in the bg? toy orchestra <3
-interesting being able to actually hear like. all of the lyrics for real
-some of the little riffs are gone and there are quite a many more
-hello?
-oh okay
-yeah i heard about the fucking gunshots that doesn't mean i was prepared for them
-the chorus sounds so nice i love this
-guest vocals?????????? whomst????????????
-who is this lady i'm so curious is she from the old toy orchestra? that'd be amazing
-breakdown time and it sounds so similar to the toy orchestra one. man
-at the end is. not the end of the album
-i think the thing that's getting me and not prompting as many questions is the fact that like. i hear these songs and hear tally hall songs. andrew's singing & i could hear this on a tally hall album with ease. it's strange
-i think the hi-hat and other little bits in this song, for example, reminds me of ross
-andrew's always tried hard at rock, and percussion is a massive part of that-wait he's scat singing i can finish that thought later i love this
-his songs are also very easy to sing along to without meaning to. first time hearing them and here i go
-anyway percussion is a massive part of rock, andy's always had an affinity for percussion, i think that's what's making me think of tally hall so much, or at least be. comfortably experiencing this in the same way i would a tally hall album
-i can't say the same of hawaii part ii
-if there's anywhere that lists the credits somewhere i'd like to see if ross worked on this at all but. i'm pretty sure he didn't
-where am i-oh shit a crowd
-nowhere else this is a song i think i know nothing about
-all that shit i was saying about rock percussion and now there's a whole entire drumkit going here
-alrighty
-that is not only andrew singing! again! who are you
-.....casey shea?????
-you sound like casey shea sir??????
-you are either casey shea or someone else who sounds like a beatle (affectionate, instead of derogatory)
-good guitar shit
-is that a third voice or does andrew just sound like that?
-madi diaz???
-i'm probably just guessing her because of the rendezvous but. there's gotta be someone more
-a whole lot of love going on here and i do appreciate it
-is it 80's fadeout time now? hell yeah
-oh yes the rainbow connection! a cover and the final song of the album (not counting the bonus tracks, which i will be listening to)
-i think i may have heard this before? or at least the minor rendition
-stylophone?
-humming. classic move
-theremin??
-music box is also cool. i swear i won't just be commentating on the instrumence alright
-what on earth is this sample in the background. steadily getting louder
-man andrew is a great singer. the consistent double vocals/heavy vibrato suits him well
-i will assume these are samples from like. the muppets movie
-does sketches (3d or otherwise) have a pdf like hwptii & nat? i sure hope so because i will enjoy looking at it
-vocalizing again let's a go
-more gong wahoo
-bonus track time <3
-tomorrow & today is a song i know pretty damn well i hope he's more legible now
-mostly the same as the 2011 version but it certainly is updated i can tell. more echo on these beginning lines
-piano is stronger. there may or may not be some added flairs. not a whole lot blatantly changed but i can say. i'll remove the 2011 version and replace it with this one for charlie
-there's a riff in my right ear that i don't remember and i like it
-this bit right here is more legible in general thank god it was incomprehensible originally
-the stomping percussion is Goin places
-and to end the whole song- you know yesterday fueled by a listen of nat i came up with an abundance of thoughts on writing styles in tally hall and especially how andrew's songs go places and what the journey's like and while that essay really won't fit into this liveblog i really enjoy how tomorrow & today has no destination in mind and it's a gradual trip but you never look back
-such strong g&e vibes
-misfortune bay be! time to replace the other misfortune charlie has with this
-sheet music???? jenny where did you find this? [referring to the image used in the video she uploaded i listened to] also this is still not the whole song i know the original misfortune wasn't but it feels strange to start this far into the song
-chords my beloved i could fucking play this song i'm so hyped about that
-toy orchestra solid soda real <3
-the one and only studio recording toy orchestra did. this is some of the best evidence for steve gallagher's voice we have
-also the audio is higher quality than the yt upload i think
-oh a casio organ not a real organ. okay i can't complain
-i like the sound of the piano at least. also this is horrendously gorey i like it
-andrew horowitz horror writer extraordinaire
-these sound like the sorts of drum synths my electric organ has
-i actually can't tell if that one's a guest vocal or andrew just being a very very good singer
-this sounds like some sort of recording you'd take of your kid's music school performance
-oh it's over
-fuck that was good

Cave of Swimmers Reach Epic Heights in Infectious New Spinner ‘Aurora’
~Review by Billy Goate~
Tumblr media
Album Art by Brian Olson
I've always said that given the right circumstances (say a good set of professional ears lodged in influential places) that CAVE OF SWIMMERS would be a sensation. Why? Because they've got all the right stuff to really connect with people at a time when heavy music has been simmering underground, well-past ready for a fresh outburst. Hamstrung by lockdowns, financial burdens, and fear aplenty, we're ready to dust off our air guitars and party like it's 1987 again (incidentally, the year I first discovered heavy music). I'm not alone in speculating that we're in for another Roaring Twenties, not unlike the carefree days that followed the last global pandemic. And it's precisely this kind of energetic vibe, with its unique Latin-meets-metal flavor, that is ripe and ready to rock 'n' revel to!
Tumblr media
Hell, we've not heard a sound this contagious since, well, maybe Sepultura -- and that was another animal entirely. With that said, Cave of Swimmers are very much metal to the core. And oh what a crowd-rousing live show Guillermo Gonzalez (guitar, synth, vox) and Arturo Garcia (drums, backing vox) can put on! I was there when Cave of Swimmers energized a hung-over and droopy mob gathered 'round The Vinyl Stage at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, lo those many years ago at the inaugural Psycho Las Vegas.
Doomed & Stoned · The Doomed & Stoned Show - The Cave Of Swimmers Special
All that and they have an appealing back story: two friends whose families relocated to Florida amidst tumultuous circumstances in Venezuela. As teenagers, Arturo and Guillermo grew up idolizing bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica and now they've crafted a fantastic, original style of their own, with wicked guitar play and grandiose vocals built atop a rhythmic array that is simultaneously feverish and suave, with choruses that are imminently singable. Stream their latest LP at least twice through and I can predict which lines you'll be humming at work and crowing in the shower at the top of your lungs.
When the band burst upon the scene in 2013 with Cave of Swimmers, I remember the community sharing it like mad. From "Materia" onward to their incredible namesake anthem, it was as if the Latin Candlemass had emerged from the salty Atlantic to enthrall crowds like some kind of warbling Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Cave of Swimmers by CAVE OF SWIMMERS
Their music-making only got better from there. 2015 gifted us with a second EP, Reflection, featuring a song I have no doubt will one day be a doom metal standard, "Prince of the Power of the Air". I'm telling you, the Psycho crowd went stompin' nuts when they heard those quasi-Biblical lyrics sung in epic doom fashion accompanied by that stern guitar tone, leading up to an incredible solo, and then a delirious second-half, which made everyone dance (whether we wanted to or not). It's infectious, like I said. I'm telling you, this sound cannot be matched. And I'm convinced it will not be stopped, either.
Reflection by CAVE OF SWIMMERS
2021 is Cave of Swimmer's year to ascend, for thus saith the Prophet that dwelleth atop the Rocks on High! Pandemic or no, it was this duo's time to release the material that had been welling up inside of them for so long. I guess we can call this their first LP, even though every spin so far has felt sufficiently hefty to refer to as a full-length. Six songs clocking in at over 30 minutes -- it's the band's next stepping stone in their journey from the recording studio into your earbuds and mine.
Aurora by CAVE OF SWIMMERS
'Aurora' (2021) plays like the first songbird of spring, if you'll indulge my idyllic wording for a moment. It's just so full of earnestness, life, and yes joy. Three things that we've been longing for in the midst of so much treachery and nihilistic despair. Hell, I consider myself something of a nihilist, but this band melts away my grim pessimism. It's all encapsulated in the thrashy, downtuned attack married to a kind of urgent Latin vibe that says "We've got one night left to live, let's die with a smile!"
After an atmospheric introduction that foreshadows material still to come, we're treated to "The Sun," which the band released as a single awhile back. I remember telling them at the time, "You guys should be huge." I meant it with all my heart, too. Certainly, this isn't watered down pop music fare, yet I think the average heavy music listener will find it wholly accessible. I'd put this Cave of Swimmers neck-and-neck with any Top 50 touring metal act, based on this track alone. Maybe I'm just enamored of their sound and being less than objective. So sue me.
Next up: "Double Rainbow," which is a kind of resurrection of optimism. Hope for a new and better tomorrow. "Forget the hate, forget the scene, forget the life of complacency," Guillermo sings. "A second arc, new scenery, our time is here. Don’t let it go! When I hear it, I too want to believe." It's a message that's especially important for us to convey to the next generation of rockers and metalheads, lest they be weighed down by our own disillusionment and mistakes. This is a song that encourages that that brash, foolhardy youthful joie de vivre and its power to change the status quo.
"My Human" opens up with a burst of syncopated guitar that reminds me of something Tom Morello likes to cook up, but its mere window dressing for a song that develops into something purely Cave of Swimmers. A single melodic line of epic singing accented by a soft layer of synthesizer lays out the verse, followed by one headbanger of a chorus. It's a song about companionship and the consolation that we can have in one another, if we will only open ourselves up long enough to being truly human. To give and in turn receive. It also seems to speak of a hope beyond this life, at least in some ethereal, metaphysical sense.
"Looking Glass'' unloads a spitfire of "Say hello to my little friend!" style riffage that rips open into a chorus I could definitely take with me to salsa lessons, if I were to dare return. Remind me to tell you about the time I accidently cracked a partner's nose with my elbow while trying to pull off one of those fancy turn-and-swing maneuvers. Sigh. Some of us have no rhythm, whatsoever. But I recognize a good slam-dancing song when I hear it!
Which leads me to talk "Dirt." Much more gritty than its predecessors, accompanied by a spooky synth of the kind Rob Zombie or Acid Witch are apt to toy with. Even as the mood turns grim, it's a foot shuffler nonetheless. And there's no denying the power of those soaring, falconesque vocals. Guillermo seems capable of transporting listeners to a higher plane of consciousness. Good thing, too, because the message is that we've all been living in our mental prisons for far too long, reinforced by "pride and ego trips."
Billions of us Where are we going to? Chasing our tails around the sun Bleeding our hearts Divided and conquered, too Buy us for sale at the dollar store Raised like pigs on dirt
Tumblr media
It's time to break free. The song ends with a section of flamenco-style guitar executed with deft classical technique. It reminded me a bit of Psychroptic's "Euphorinasia" -- another song that makes brilliant use of acoustic guitar.
"C.S." is Cave of Swimmer's swan song -- a send-back to their earliest work. Their reprisal reminds me of something Metallica would do. There's a certain "Nothing Else Matters" mood about it all. Then out of nowhere, a spurt of volcanic riffage and mad drumming breaks out into a Gojiraesque hoe-down. Oh yes, and there's another celebratory trve metal guitar solo lodged in there juxtaposed with complex rhythmic percussion.
I'm telling you, Cave of Simmers cannot be beat. The game belongs to them. Their time is now. Give ear...

The King of New York
for @geekinthecorner by @dredfulhapiness (for @friendly-neighborhood-exchange)
on AO3
rating: general
relationship: Peter Parker & Tony Stark
characters: Tony Stark, Peter Parker, Pepper Potts, Morgan Stark, May Parker, Happy Hogan
summary: Tony shrugged. “We could go sometime,” he said, putting a book on the shelf.
Peter blinked. “Huh?”
“Yeah, Morgan’s old enough to sit still that long, and Pepper’s been wanting to go, so you and May might as well come along.” He said it so casually. 'You might as well come see a Broadway show with us' like the price of two tickets wouldn’t equal one of Peter’s Midtown scholarships.
Peter found the playbills shoved in a box eloquently labelled hall closet shit. They were splayed amongst yearbooks and coats, and a few puzzles that looked like they had been collecting dust for years before the move.
The covers on a lot of them were cracked, either with age or mismanagement. The pages were dog-eared, or the layers of the pages were separating.
“You saw Music Man on Broadway?” Peter held one of the Playbills up, on the cover, a young boy was playing the trombone.
Tony looked up from where he was loading up the bookshelf across the room. He squinted to see what Peter was holding up, then realization crossed his face. “Ah,” he said, face returning to normal, “Yeah, my mom was into all that theater crap.” He waved his hand.
Peter shuffled the mini-stack of Playbills. Les Miserables, Merrily We Roll Along, Starlight Express, Sunday in the Park with George, Chess, Singin’ in the Rain, Carrie.
“You went a lot,” Peter said, flipping through the pages to look at old ads for cologne or hair care products.
“We needed something to do when my dad was working out of town.”
Peter continued flipping through the stack. Some of them were newer: The Humans, and Jersey Boys, and--
“You’ve seen Hamilton?” Peter held that playbill up, too. Instead of the normal yellow Playbill logo, the top was rainbow. He’d seen it in June.
“Huh?” Tony frowned, like he was thinking. “That’s the rap one, right? Yeah, it was Pepper’s Christmas gift one year.”
Peter stared at him, eyes wide. “And?”
“And?” Tony raised an eyebrow.
Peter rolled his eyes. “How was it?”
Tony shrugged. “It was fine,” he said. “Long.”
“Long?” Peter balked at him. “It’s Hamilton.”
“It’s overrated. The main character sucked.”
Peter clicked his tongue. “Money is wasted on the tasteless,” He said dramatically, clutching the playbill to his chest.
Tony shrugged. “We could go sometime,” he said, putting a book on the shelf.
Peter blinked. “Huh?”
“Yeah, Morgan’s old enough to sit still that long, and Pepper’s been wanting to go, so you and May might as well come along.” He said it so casually. You might as well come see a Broadway show with us like the price of two tickets wouldn’t equal one of Peter’s Midtown scholarships.
“Oh,” He said, rubbing the back of his neck. “That sounds like a lot of fun, but I’m not sure that we can--”
“I’m paying for it,” Tony said before Peter could even finish the sentence.
“Oh, that’s really kind, but I couldn’t--”
“I’m paying for it,” Tony repeated, still half-focused on putting Pepper’s books on the shelf in the right order. She had a certain way she wanted them, and Peter was decently sure Tony was putting them on the shelf wrong. He was decently sure Pepper separated by author rather than subject matter. Peter kept his mouth shut. If Tony wanted to unpack the apartment so poorly, that was on him. “-- did you hear me?”
Peter snapped his attention away from the bookshelf. “Sorry, what?”
“I said pick a show. I’ll get us tickets.”
Peter spent a long time mulling over the offer. It wasn’t the kind of gift he’d normally accept (too expensive and fancy), but it also wasn’t the kind of opportunity he got often (Broadway was highly inaccessible even for people who lived in New York).
He’d opted not to bring it up again. He’d leave the offer in limbo.
He thought that would be the end of it.
“So, Peter,” Pepper said. She was eating a sandwich over the kitchen sink, her tablet lit up on the counter beside it. “Which musical are we seeing?”
“Uh,” Peter said, cocking his head. There was a smear of mayo at the corner of Pepper’s lips. “What?”
“Tony said you wanted to see a show,” She said. “What are we seeing?”
“Oh, um…” Peter looked between Pepper and the door to the garage. “You know, I haven’t put much thought into it.”
But clearly Tony had, because he’d told Pepper. Peter had thought the conversation a throwaway, but…
“Well, let one of us know,” Pepper said. “It sounds fun. We haven’t gone since Morgan was born.”
Peter had a list of excuses as to why he couldn’t accept the offer.
“It’s a bad idea for both of New York’s biggest heroes to be preoccupied for the night,” he pointed out over dinner. He spoke with his hands, the meatball on the end of his fork wobbling dangerously.
“We’re both preoccupied right now,” Tony deadpanned.
“Our phones aren’t off,” Peter answered. “Friday is constantly scanning news systems. I mean, if something happens while we’re at a show--” he said at a show in the same voice one would say at key largo.
“Bruce owes me a favor,” Tony said. “I’ll ask him and to babysit if we need, and I’ll ask Rhodey to keep an eye on the city for a night. Pick a show.”
“What if the show’s not worth the money?” Peter asked during a late night. Harley was curled up in the corner, his jacket being used as a pillow against the wall, a book open on his chest. He was snoring softly. Peter spoke softly enough not to wake him.
Tony shrugged. “Then it’s not,” he said. “Kid, I’m a billionaire. I can afford to hate a musical. Just pick a show.”
“What if the public sees all of us out together?” Peter asked as he held Morgan’s bike seat steady. She was pedaling along, shaky. Not quite sturdy enough for Peter to let go yet. “They might make connections. Figure out I’m… Y’know.” He motioned like he was firing webs.
“I treat my employees to stuff like that all the time,” Tony said. He spun the disconnected training wheel. It squeaked. “Well, Pepper does. I just happen to be there sometimes.”
“And my aunt just happened to come along?”
“Your aunt is dating the head of security,” Tony reminded him. “Pete, it’s fine. Just do me a favor and--”
“Pick a show,” Peter finished. “Got it.”
--
There were a lot of options. Peter’s eyes scanned the billboards. He sat on a roof overlooking Times Square, sizing up the different shows being advertised. The usual shows were there, Wicked, and Chicago, and Phantom of the Opera. He chewed on his sandwich. Chicago and Phantom weren’t exactly age appropriate for Morgan.
They could see one of the Disney princess musicals, he considered. It would be safe for Morgan, and probably fun for the adults. It felt like a waste, though, to pay so much money to see a story and hear songs that they all already knew, Morgan especially.
He pulled his mask down, and dropped down to the ground to toss out his sandwich wrapper, still hung up on his paradox of choice.
“Wanna see a show tonight?” Someone shoved a flyer into Peter’s hands.
“Uh,” he said, because he was clearly not a tourist. He looked down and, yep, his spider suit was still there. When he looked up, the guy was already peddling his flyers to a different group of passing pedestrians.
He was just going to toss it. That is, until the title caught his eye.
--
“It’s another historical musical,” Tony said, unenthused, while flipping through the program.
“And it’s Disney,” May said, pleased.
Tony sat to Peter’s right, Morgan on his left. Around them was the murmur of people waiting for the show to start.
“It’s a good show,” Peter promised Tony. “And it’s not too old for Morgan.”
“And it’s about… newspapers?”
“Christian Bale is in the movie,” Peter supplied.
“Batman?!” Tony asked.
“I would have said Patrick Bateman,” Pepper said.
“That’s a musical, too,” Peter chimed in.
“Weirdest medium ever,” Tony said, and Peter couldn’t even bring himself to argue. He was right. It was.
“Imagine the business card scene, but sung,” May said. Happy snorted.
“What?” Morgan asked, and Peter shook his head at her.
“Look, Newsies is a classic,” Peter said in a final defense of his choice. “It’s about a band of misfit kids taking down the big bad evil millionaire.”
“Millionaire?” Tony raised an eyebrow.
“Watch it, Stark,” Peter said. “They’re coming for you next.”
Tony didn’t get a chance to retort. The lights dimmed, and an announcement was made, and the overture played and Peter settled into his seat, content, and also thrumming because he could feel the strings rattle his muscles and oh my god he was seeing a Broadway musical.
“So, what did you think?” Tony fell into step with Peter, just behind the rest of their group. He put a hand in the middle of Peter’s shoulders. Ahead of them, Morgan was holding May’s hand and jabbering excitedly about the tap number. Happy and Pepper were debating dinner plans.
“It was great!” Peter said, and okay maybe he was a little starry-eyed. They stepped out onto the New York streets and it smelled like garbage, and sweat, and the subway, and home.
Peter pulled Tony in for a hug. “Thanks, Mr. Stark.”
Tony patted him on the back awkwardly. “No problem, kid,” he said.
They pulled apart and caught up to the rest of their family. The sky was a familiar blue-black, and the pavement shone with streetlights, and Rhodey hadn’t even been needed and Peter understood when Morgan called, from atop Happy’s shoulders, “I’M THE KING OF NEW YORK!”

Aikatsu Stars! Episodes 93-100
Tumblr media
Shine bright, Stars!
And we finally reach the end of this journey! The day has finally come. I didn’t just finish this series but I’m also fully pleased with the episodes on this post!
Once I made the calcs to know how many episodes I'd have to watch daily to compensate for my break I didn't expect to be so accurate in isolating perfectly the final arc of the series to be watched on a single day. Because these 8 episodes are so interconnected I won't be tackling them individually and I'll give my thoughts on this ending as a whole.
Tumblr media
The Final Tournament, like most of the big season-closing events of aikatsu, was a mixed bag for me. This competition lasted for 4 episodes covering 2 days which means that some things were rushed, while other things were dragged, and this is a point that, as always, I don't like.
However, the plot was actually convincing and it got me involved for the most part of it. Like I've said yesterday, the closing of Venus Ark is an interesting conflict, and while they lacked on exploring that in the past episodes, they managed to integrate that here in a very efficient manner. One thing that I like is how agency they gave to Rei after so many episodes of her being solely dedicated to Elza. Yes, I'm sure some of the reasons of why she stood up and tried to keep Venus Ark active was because of her obsession with Elza, but she was able to stand as a separated entity as Elza and shine on her own so her episode was very beautiful despite she losing. I still think Rei was a wasted potential and that they could've done more with her, but I liked her ending.
Tumblr media
Mahiru had the plot that less compelled me because it wasn't anything big or very special. Again, the fact they picked up events of a single day and divided that into two episodes maybe was the reason for it. Or maybe it was the fact that Elza definitely would win against her that made me less engaged with her story. Though I liked the ending of that episode with the reunion with the girls and then the scene at sunset with Yozora.
Tumblr media
Elza was a tricky one. I've had a problem with her the entire season and even at this point I still couldn't grasp how her mindset works and I was extremely annoyed by this, but then episode 96 comes, and she loses, and her mother appears on stage and then suddenly I was crying? For a character I thought I didn't like? It was confusing. And it was beautiful. Seeing humanity on her again did things to me that I wasn't prepared. Elza does have a heart, she's not just a maniac. I don't... know what to think. I think I've become a fan again. LOL
Tumblr media
Closing this part of the arc with Yume. I don't have that many thoughts on her during this part of the story. Like, I would've been more impressed if during the battle against Rei she had sung Message of a Rainbow to save MUSIC of DREAM to the big stage (kinda what they've done for Elza), it also would make more sense to them to put those scenes of her concerned about what song to choose and what coord to wear. But her interactions with the other girls were pretty damn good, and Hime's words to her saying "Be yourself. Being perfect isn't the same as being the best." really stuck to me for some reason. So I guess it was okay.
Tumblr media
Once we've put the tournament aside, I thought it would be a similar situation to friends where they didn't know what to do with the rest of the episodes, but actually, they wrap up pretty well. We had an episode to finally conclude the story of Venus Ark, we have two episodes to set up for the future of the characters, and we have the goodbye. It was pretty well planned.
I don't have a lot to say about Venus Ark, their episode was good I just think to change the school name to Neo Venus Ark just a bit dumb. Having an episode entirely focused on Yuzutto and Lillie felt a bit awkward in this whole timeline, but it worked very well despite me not liking how the S4 Elections were dealt with in such a rushed way. The episode 99 was actually my least favorite because I think we didn't need an episode entirely focused on that, but I understand why they have done it in order to preserve a more beautiful ending for episode 100.
Tumblr media
And the final episode was marvelous. I definitely didn't expect to like it as much and to be so touched by it. I had a lot of problems with Stars and it was very difficult for me to connect with most of the main cast, but this episode actually made me feel warm inside. The episode was beautiful, both visually/aesthetically and plot-wise. If there's one thing to complain is the epilogue with this world aikatsu cup that created a virus on the internet of people saying that this would be the event to end all aikatsu as a convergence of all series and all this conspiracy theory bullshit I've seen so much on the wikis and youtube.
Tumblr media
In any case, this was Aikatsu Stars! Like y'all know, I have a lot of problems with Aikatsu Stars, but despite its stumbles I really enjoyed it. It's not my favorite, but I liked it. I don't like it as much as the entire world apparently does, but at least now I know why it is so popular even though it doesn't fit my tastes sometimes.
Tumblr media
And this concludes this madness of finishing this entire franchise in a month! I've failed my goal of watching everything before on Parade came out, but I'm still happy and loving Aikatsu even more than what I already did before. I'm very excited to know finally get my sleep schedule back on track now that I don't need to stay awake till almost midnight every day to fill my quota. XD I'm also very excited to watch something different for a change. I still need to talk about On Parade's 1st episode here, but I think I'm gonna wait for the subs to come out to make that into a proper post. And I'll be getting back to the other anime as the week(s) goes by.
Now I need a glass of wine and a break! See you guys, and thank you for following me on this journey.

The Four Times John Had Something to Say but Couldn’t Find His Own Words
I decided to give myself a prompt because I can!! >:) So here’s a Joger fic with a disney scripting Deacy. In order, Kiss the Girl - Little Mermaid, Reflection - Mulan, Baby Mine - Dumbo, and A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes - Cinderella
There were hundreds of stars in the sky right now. Maybe millions. Tiny specs of light peeking through the veil of navy space. Twinkling and shuddering, fading and glowing.
It was a sight John could drink in forever. A view that sent his mind wandering, a little traveler through plumes of dust and horizons on black holes. Gorgeous. Simply so.
And what made it better was that Roger was next to him, taking in the majesty of the heavens alongside him. Splayed on on the roof of John’s house, cuddled together under the blanket of light, they laid there, watching, never saying much.
John pointed at a star that shone red, perhaps a planet that Brian said were sometimes visible throughout the year, although he couldn’t be sure. He looked over at Roger to see if his boyfriend was seeing what he was, but he was met with a pair of piercing blue eyes watching him intently.
A blush rose in his cheeks, wondering how long Roger had been oogling at him. He bit his lip, staring back, hoping he could make Roger feel as giddy with his eyes as Roger had made him feel with his.
There those two lovestruck guys were, on a roof, bathed in moonlight, wind blowing through their hair. Perfect for a kiss, right? At least John thought so. And maybe Roger did too, but he seemed hesitant, his eyebrows slightly furrowed.
“Look at the boy too shy. He ain’t gonna kiss the girl. Ain’t that sad? Ain’t it shame? Too bad you gonna miss the girl.” John sang softly, a small smile on his mouth. One grew on Roger’s too, the oh so familiar Disney song being sung to him by an impatient John.
“Oh you,” Roger pretended to grip before he leaned over, holding onto John’s chin with his thumb and forefinger, pulling him into a kiss.
John made happy noises, his eye crinkles coming out.
John looked down at his hands. They were quite big for his arms and the finger tips calloused from thick bass strings.
He knew these hands very well. He saw them everyday and used them to make music with his friends.
He looked down at his feet, only clad in some ratty socks. They were actually small for someone of his stature, but nonetheless his.
He wriggled his toes. Rolled onto the balls of his feet and back. These were the feet that carried him everywhere. Fun places like Japan and scary places like doctors offices.
Then he looked straight ahead at the mirror he’d been avoiding in his bathroom.
There was a face before him that mimicked his every move, but it didn’t feel like him. Sleepy steel grey eyes blinked and pouty lips moved but he didn’t think it was him.
He touched one of the moles on his face and his reflection touched it too. He tossed his wavy hair over his shoulder and the mirror copied.
He didn’t like it. It didn’t make sense.
He touched his chest, his ribs poked out. John lived there, he’d say if asked. In his heart. Every experience and laugh and cry came from there. Not..that.
He touched the glass where his face was, not recognizing the stranger before him.
That wasn’t him.
Never felt like him.
And to think that’s all the world ever saw and digest. That person in the mirror. That vessel he had limited control of.
He didn’t like it.
“Why is my reflection someone I dont know. Some how I can not hide who I am, though I've tried. When will my reflection show who I am inside?” he whispered to himself, his finger pads tracing his chin on the mirror.
He didn’t leave his bathroom that night.
The front of Roger’s shirt was soaked. Not from a spilled drink or sudden rain, but from how hard and long he’d been crying.
John came home, the first sound he was greeted with being throat splitting cries. He knew it was Roger because Roger never did anything halfway. If he was going to cry, it was going to be loud and ugly.
Panic set into his bones, throwing everything he had in his arms onto the floor and running into their shared room.
Roger was on the bed, sitting at an edge, feet tucked under himself, arms wrapped around his middle. His whole face was red and splotchy, especially his eyes which when they peered up to look at John, shattered his heart.
John rushed in, picking up the broken Roger in his arms and holding him close. He wasn’t very fond of touch most times, but it wasn’t about him right now.
Roger’s head fell into the crook of his neck, his fiery hot cheeks and warm tears pressing against his skin uncomfortably. His ear splitting sobs dampened into sniffles and hiccups, his whole frame still shaking.
“What happened?” John asked, knowing that people usually cried for reasons. Roger was probably upset over something.
Roger licked his salty lips, making himself as tiny as possible on John’s lap, pressing into John’s flesh with everything he had. As if he wanted to disappear into his boyfriend, the only safe place he knew in this world. John continued to hold him steadfast, patient in waiting for an answer.
“Was s-stimming in a cafe. Too loud maybe. Owner c-called me a spaz. Got kicked out,” Roger stuttered out, voice shaking harder than he was.
John nodded, his stomach feeling heavy. He knew that all to well.
And there was so much he wanted to tell Roger. Every positive thing he could muster. But his brain was a little frazzled from all of this. He settled for something easily digestible and something that would be what Roger needed to hear.
“All those same people who scold you, what they'd give just for the right to hold you. From your head to your toes you're so sweet, goodness knows. You are so precious to me. Sweet as can be, baby of mine,” he cooed barely above a whisper into Roger’s ear, rocking them both gently, the bed creaking with every move.
“Baby mine, don't you cry. Baby mine, dry your eyes. Rest your head close to my heart. Never to part, baby of mine,”
“Don't you mind what they say. Let those eyes sparkle and shine. Never a tear, baby of mine,”
“Baby mine, Baby mine,”
John was idly plucking at his bass, listening to the cacophony around him. Brian was tuning his guitar, Roger smashing at the cymbals and Freddie yelling (his way of warming up, or so he says).
He looked up from the shiny black paint of his bass, eyes scanning the room, staring intently at every familiar face before moving on to the next one, the feeling of sunshines growing in his chest.
John never really had friends. In school, he was always alone, not by choice but by forced exclusion from his peers. He was weird and awkward and that was enough for everyone to avoid him like the plague for those 16 years.
The thing was, he really wanted friends. He wanted what he saw all around him. Hand holding and whispering and giggling and playing tag and shared looks and- all of it. He craved it so badly. But it was never allowed to him.
Instead he was forced to watch from the sidelines, having only himself to confide in.
Those were miserable years. A dark time in his life he didn’t like to think of.
University wasn’t all that different, but at least the bullying and teasing stopped.
But it wasn’t until the package of Queen fell into his life that his days began to look more yellow, more happy.
He found a group of friends that he finally belonged to. Friends that loved him for who he was, never asking him to change, never ashamed of how he acted and talked.
He had friends to tell secrets to and share stories with. He had a group of friends just like the ones in his day and night dreams. The kind of friends he spent years praying would find him.
And they were right there, right now, fiddling around, content in his presence just as much as he was theirs.
Freddie, his protector, was plugging in his mic, tapping the head of it to see if it all worked. His eyes connected with John, flashing him a sweet toothy grin before continuing with whatever he was doing.
Brian, his older brother, was strumming Red Special, head leaning down to get a better listen of the finally tuned strings. He caught John staring and laughed quietly, head shaking.
And Roger, his friend turned lover, was inspecting a drumstick for cracks or splinters when he felt a pair of eyes on him. He looked up and immediately his shoulders straightened, a obnoxious and goofy smile spreading on his lips.
People say dreams are childish and never come true but John wasn’t sure of that anymore.
“Have faith in your dreams and someday your rainbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true,” John said with a lilt in his voice, as if he couldn’t decide between speaking or singing what he felt.
Everyone stopped what they were doing to listen, knowing John was communicating and not just singing for fun.
Every expression softened, a pink dusting over Roger’s cheeks.
“Are you happy, darling?” Freddie asked, a smile in his voice.
John nodded, continuing, feeling sparklers in his tummy when Freddie joined him.
“A dream is a wish your heart makes when you're fast asleep. In dreams you will lose your heartaches. Whatever you wish for, you keep,”

Hey cutie, love bug, and princess?
cutie - what’s your favourite fairytale?
when i had a greek unit in middle school i really really vibed with echo and narcissus i remember being so fucking fascinated with echo being invisible and intangible and only able to repeat what you say to her. i loved that shit dawg
but in case that doesn’t count as a fairytale uhh..... i do remember liking little red riding hood and the uhh.. i dont remember what it was called but the one where a big bad wolf swallowed some guys and then they cut his tummy open and filled it with rocks and then he drowned. that was a fairytale right
love bug - what song would you love to have sung to you?
oh this is tender. part of me wants to say rainbow connection bc . You Know but i also like the idea of wouldn’t it be nice
princess - if you could live in any other time period, which would it be?
hell this ones good too uhh i really prefer this time period just because like. i have (more) rights (than i did, and so do so many other folks). like i wld love to romanticize different periods i just wish i didn’t know so much awful shit abt those time periods but if i just get to remove the awful shit i think i would like the Romantic era im edgy and gay

6 16 18 22 28 for.. be more CHill
6. First impression of it?
the first content of the actual show i saw was an animatic of michael in the bathroom (cliché, i know), with absolutely no knowledge of the plot other than “michael is alone in a bathroom at some point,” and when it got to “everything felt fine / when i was half of a pair / but through no fault of mine / there’s no other half there” i kind of went uhhhhhh is this guy michael in love with his friend or what
16. Favorite sung lyric?
either “so i follow my own rules / and i use them as my tools / to stay alive” or “and there are voices all around / and you can never mute the sound / they scream and shout, i tune them out / then make up my own mind”
18. Greatest weakness?
i guess that the broadway production suggests very heavily that michael is gay in a range of ways (rainbow flag patch on his hoodie + “the world of heterosexuals is a sick and boring life” patch on his jacket, the current staging of the backpack scene and george’s delivery of “my mothers would be thrilled,” etc), to the extent that multiple professional reviews mentioned michael as being gay/having clear feelings for jeremy (and playbill included him - but not rich! - in a list of lgbt characters currently on broadway), but the text of the show never seems to commit to that being the case/make it explicitly true, and the cast & creatives won’t say it’s definitively true either. considering that george and the joes expressed clear support for the idea of michael being gay when the fandom was first blowing up, their decision to blatantly hint at but not say it in the current production is disappointing.
22. Favorite change from previews/prebroadway?
there are many but i’ll get real niche with this one and say the change in how will delivers the “instead” in “mute the voice inside your head / and connect to another source instead”, the first time i heard the crescendo-ing version of it (thank you build series performance!) i flipped
28. Favorite post-canon headcanon?
i love your idea of jeremy & christine and brooke & jenna going on double dates… let’s go lesbians
(A bunch of asks about musicals! Send a musical & a number)

Unexpected........soft but not
------------------------------------
Type:Fluffy
Pairing:Vince×Reader
------------------------------------
You love motley crue, you always get tickets to shows and go to whiskey a go go and clubs, vinces voice was so mesmerising, you loved it.
Although one night your grandmother stumbled upon a book of yours, of course it had to be your old diary just from a couple years back when you and your prime time of obsession with Motley Crue, you still are but this one was in depth about Vince and your love for him, you know your grandma also likes Motley Crue so as a birthday gift because as it was coming up soon, about a month or so but she decided to buy you backstage passes to a Motley Crue show.
You obviously had no idea about it which wasn't a bad thing also wasn't exactly a good thing the reason happened to be unexpected but it surely happened, skip to last night well you had a couple drinks the rainbow Bar and Grill it was pretty nice you were getting a bit more Tipsy then you planned but you could still see just a bit blurry, a guy with white blonde sort of bushy hair walked up to you introduce himself is Vince, you weren't drinking a bit more now getting a bit more Tipsy things a bit harder to remember or kind of getting blurrier.
You played it off like he was just some guy trying to get your number that you didn't want to go home with, but you didn't want your grandma to see you come home drunk it kind of out of your mind last time that happened you messed up big-time and almost burned the house down but let's not talk about that, back to what was really happening at the bar. " hey I'm Vince nice to meet you how do you do?", looking over from your drink, you " hi I'm doing just fine".
" no-name huh, looks like you're hard to get but me being the guy am I'm pretty sure I don't need to do much explaining do I?".
Still pretty drunk unable to recognize who the hell you're talking to you're blurred out these words a bit loudly " what the hell do you mean, I have never met you in my entire life what makes you think I want to go home with you".
" well then I guess I'll have to try harder" a smug smile exhibited his face " you heard the song Kickstart My Heart?", " fuck yea, who the hell hasn't".
" does the name Vince ring a bell?" He was clearly hinting, still he the hell do you not notice your idol, love of your life? " nah, I don't think so if you say you're trying hard you're not doing too good buddy" you said sipping your iced Martin, Vince clearly cringed at the fact that you called him "Buddy".
" without you in my life I'd slowly Wilt and die but with you by my side you're the reason I'm alive" Vince sung.
Your eyes and now just realizing exactly who you're talking to you yell these three words "HOLY FUCKING SHIT" Vince's smug face happily and easily turned into a smile that you finally noticed who the fuck you're talking to.
" well now that you know, I'm pretty sure you came here alone for number one and number two you're drunk out your mind if you didn't notice me number three you can't drive a car right now so I could take you home unless you don't want anyone to see this crazy drunk but your choice just offering" vince said in a manner knowing he scored .
" oh my God, you Vince Neil. Just ask me. Some random crazy ass girl. To go home with you!?!?!?!"
" what do you fucking think?" He smirked.
" well he'll fucking yeah, Nikki Tommy and Mick with you?" Hooing fir a yes and a no at the same time
" not tonight, that's weird but not tonight".
After reading go home with him to the apartment you thought it was just going to be a quick hookup and then you leave which you didn't mind cuz it's Vince fucking Neil but at the same time you wish it was more because it's not just I want to have sex with him you want to fall in love it's clearly you know will never happen which is the sad part and makes you want to crumble up into a ball and die but fear not I guess you never know Vince is surprising but at the same time groupies is his ultimate favorite, just like a princess who needs a prince but this is not the way it goes cuz we know how the story goes.
When Vince finally parked at the apartment you weren't dazzled it definitely wasn't as nice as your house for a heavy metal star but it was nice enough they were still kind of struggling and didn't feel like buying a new place plus it's OG Motley house the band grew up here, after walking up the rickety stairs you walked in, the smell of alcohol cigarettes and small burn marks on the carpet made Vince want to clean for once in his life.
He told you to wait on the couch just walked into his room you had no fucking idea what he was doing he told you to wait on the couch if he walked into his room you add note walking idea what you was doing but you said couch he told you to wait on the couch if he walked into his room you add note walking idea what you was doing but you said couch waited he told you to wait on the couch if he walked into his room you add note walking idea what you was doing but you waiting on the couch.
Vince walked out with a robe, expecting him to take it off you're a bit preppy, because secretly no one really knows but you're a virgin you don't like saying it makes you sound so basic you don't know how but it just does you don't want to ruin the moment.
" follow me" Vince culling his finger with a smirk you got up at demand you don't know why but it was very attractive even though people found it a bit rude specially to treat a woman like that who gave a damn is Vince goddamn Neil he was hot and you already there you can't do anything about it anyway so, getting up from the couch he followed him slowly into his room, he shares a room with Tommy they both have one side of the room which is split by sheet hung up from the ceiling pinned up by Staples, you walk past the sheets and sea candles aligned around the bed just for some decoration.
You expecting them to immediately push you onto the bed instead he told you to lay down your stomach flat on the bed, you removed your shirt without him even asking you to do so , now faced down on your stomach on the bed Vince crabs some essential oils and put it onto your back it was warm he started to massage your back they give you hickeys on your neck the trails of kisses behind your ear and tight friction oh, he has no shirt but he's wearing a sort of Speedo type underwear that's pretty tight but also flexible.
" you know I know you, you're always in the front row at every show in this town, you're always on some fan page about Motley Crue mostly me though oh, why is that?" Vince sais calmly.
" I've always love Motley Crue, but the first time I saw a picture of you I literally died at the site love your rocking body".
" I'm going to take this slow, I'm not going to give you what you want you're not a groupie you got some girl just looking for a quick hookup, your girl looking for something more, I don't get that alot, so we're going to take things not my way not your way just away from what you expected, maybe next time" he said in a rough scrappy hot voice while massaging your back.
" I'm perfectly fine with that, you know I really do enjoy this more than just a quick hookup" you say fully satisfied with the feeling of vinces hands and the oil rubbing on your back.
After you were fully satisfied what's the massage he lied beside you shirtless, after a quick breath of relief you sit up on the head of the bed propped up on a pillow half under the covers, Vince blows out the candles.
Vince doesn't know exactly what to do neither do you you both are really know what exactly taking it slow is but first step is already done but you don't know what to do afterwards so you just sitting in bed both silent trying to figure out what to talk about what to do and how to do it wow still going slow.
" do you want to spoon?" You say offering to be the small spoon, " already a step ahead of you guess you just said it first" Vince said wrapping his arma around you.
" I know we just met feels like I've known you for a while I'm not sure why this just feels right if this is what love feels like I'm in for a long happy ride".
Those words melted your heart, he kissed you play with your hair left hickeys almost everywhere but not below your waist because as you both agreed you were going slow but you wondered how long you were going to keep it slow because to be honest you were a bit impatient cuz I mean you've had a crush on Vince for so long not that it's an issue that you got a massage from him get to come to his apartment and snuggle and Spoon but still you didn't want to keep it slow for too long.
" I think well.... I sound crazy I know I do but... I think I love you" Vince forced himself to blurt.
" I've always wanted to hear that but that's only because I had a crush on you for how you looked, got even more now you sound nowhere near crazy to me...... I think I love you too"
" man me and you so crazy ass motherfuckers, I guess taking it slow as the right way finally met someone that I can connect with been a while since that".
" it's funny, you were never this emotional whenever I saw you in interviews and such wow it's truly a soft guy"
" well you'd be surprised, I truly am soft guy it's hard to admit although I am pretty rough around the edges I am soft guy a little bit on the inside"
" well it was very unexpected, I thought you just wanted a quickie I was wrong we're taking it slow I guess I don't mind as much but I'm still a little bit impatient to be honest"
" I think when I said taking it slow I didn't mean we had to wait days he'll it could have been 15 minutes I wouldn't mind" vince smirked moving his hand up your thigh still while spooning you.
" well then I guess tonight have some more unexpected territories to explore I say you've done enough of the slow what do you say?"
" what do you fucking think?'
" still unexpected hot soft but not"
