I’m eating up all of your Komaeda and Hinata analyses, they’re just so clear and detailed! This might just be my bias, but I’m wondering about your perspective on komahina gradually (hopefully) healing together. I feel like the majority of the fandom mostly focuses on how Hinata would help Komaeda, probably because it seems the more obvious and Komaeda’s worldview is the more obviously skewed. But I feel like Komaeda also has the potential to, at least to an extent, help Hinata heal from his experiences. I don’t doubt that Hinata learned something from the simulation, but he also has a flawed perception of talent and a very low self worth, and I bet it wouldn’t go away overnight. Of course, this comes with the assumption that they would get along again post SDR2, which could be another thing to analyze for sure. Let me know what you think!

Ah I’m flustered again with your kind words! Thank you, I try my best to make sure my point is well explained with backed up reasoning since I tend to suffer intellectually when people don’t do that themselves. Especially when it’s a claim that has no backing but everyone takes at face value *grumble* *grumble*. It doesn’t have to be confirmed canon to be a creditable analysis, a good analyzer doesn’t need to rely on the creator’s every word, but it also can’t just contradict canon itself (unless, if you’re dr3, you contradict canon already and so it’s expected to discard it as creditable). Death of the author doesn’t work like that and it just comes off arrogant, you’re supposed to be working with canon Jesus Christ. Unless it’s a very specific situation where the creator is just garbage at handling their own work, I don’t think anyone deserves that right.

Oops sorry I went off into a tangent. I’m getting a little pissed at what people think is an analysis at all.

Now, with them healing post-game… you’re gonna have to stick with me because this is a lot to speak about. We all want them to be happy together as fellow Komahina shippers do haha, so it’s not you alone that has this bias, but it’s not going to be as quick and easy as the anime shows it to be.

To start, it’s sweet that people do think Hajime can help Komaeda because he can, but they’re going in the wrong direction with this. Hajime is not his nurse, therapist, or at his personal beck and call. Everyone on the island is healing, not just Komaeda. They’re both adults and he doesn’t need to nanny him. Komaeda most likely is going to need more attention medically considering his already poor health and the severed hand of Junko, but mentally? Everyone is pretty much going through some version of mental instability.

Now that’s out of the way, you’re right. People do focus on how Hajime can help him over how Komaeda can help him because it’s more obvious to us. We’re all (hopefully) aware that Hajime had the most positive/impactful influence out of anyone in the cast because of his way of somehow worming into Komaeda’s heart due to their “special bond” and put on a different, more personal level compared to the ultimates. The fact that Hajime proves against what he’s believed in just by being Hajime also works in the favor that Hajime would be the most helpful for him to grow closer with.

I’m glad you brought it up because Komaeda would definitely be as much help to Hajime. A lot of fans have a bad habit of thinking Hajime is much more stable than the rest of the cast and has solutions to everything, when Hajime is also growing with them. Komaeda is deceptively perceptive in how he interacts with Hajime in game. It feels rude when he does target his thoughts toward Hajime and gives his own insight on Hajime’s own person, but he’s never wrong about him when you look back at what’s being said.

When he went on that tangent after finding out what was in Hajime’s file in chapter 4, it was uncalled for to dump that all onto a person at once, but none of what he said about Hajime was wrong. All of it that he said about Hajime admiring hopes peak and what Hajime thought he could be by attending, none of it was objectively wrong. To defend Komaeda in this instance though, he wasn’t being mean on purpose, he was spelling out his own thoughts after being hit with the worst news ever.

However, even in the FTEs when he brings up how similar they are and him being a “miserable bystander” like himself, Hajime always rejects him and by proxy rejects himself. He rejects the part of himself that’s clearly seen in Komaeda at every instance because it’s inconvenient to recognize. Now though, he needs to recognize this if he’s going to accept himself and do what he promised to do outside of the simulation.

To reject Komaeda is to reject himself, that’s why I think it’d benefit both of them to heal with each other and in my wishful thinking, become closer. Another tidbit, as unnerving as Komaeda can be, Komaeda’s uplifting words do clearly make Hajime feel better, especially in chapter 1, and is hurt when he’s the target of distrust or ridicule by Komaeda even after their relationship becomes rocky (oh Hajime, he doesn’t mean it like that). Komaeda is not in the greatest position to help anyone, but these two points would partly help Hajime the most.

To get anywhere near that type of intimacy to let another person get that close to your whole being, especially in their situation, it’s uh. I’m already wincing imagining it play out. Again, It’s glossed over how much work it’s going to take in general for them to heal as a group, but god a relationship like theirs? The only thing I can say is yikes!

Contrary to popular opinion (or unpopular considering what side of the fandom you’re on), it’s not Hajime that’s going to put the most obstacles and barriers between them, it’s Komaeda. Hajime is already on the path of self-reflection and growth, so while for him it’s going to be nerve wracking to try and connect with again, it’s not going to be impossible for him. He already went out of his way to try and understand Komaeda when he’s able to in-game, even after all that Komaeda had did considering his attitude towards listening to his final words when you interact with his cottage after trial 5. It doesn’t make his feelings any less complicated or any less harder for him to confront Komaeda, but he’s going to be more willing in comparison. Komaeda’s side of this is where the real mess starts.

Geez, where do I begin? For one, he’s not gonna be typical Komaeda the way the anime tricks you he’d be. I don’t think he’d be angry at anyone in particular after waking up and finding out everyone is alive. He never was angry at them in the first place, he just stopped idolizing them and did what he thought was right due to his anger at what they decided to become. Questionable I know, but that’s how Komaeda is. Instead, I think Komaeda would just be more lost than he already was, more so after finding out what happened after he “died” and their decision to move forward.

He already keeps to himself, but I think he’d do it more so. I’m not sure he’d know what to say to any of them anymore besides his honest thoughts, which never goes well. He could go back to praising their talents, but for what? Their potential Hope when they’ve already plagued the world with the despair using their talents? What a joke. Again, he can’t easily just let go of what’s essentially his lifeline so that behavior would probably be reserved for people like Naegi or Kirigiri.

Eventually him and Hajime are gonna talk and it’s not going to be pretty. Im sure you can imagine it. This isn’t me saying they don’t have that potential to reconnect because if you remember correctly, he quite literally only apologizes to Hajime in his final message and to his own confusion, says he still cares for him even after what he found out. It’ll just take way longer than just a couple months. It’s not going to be as smooth as it could be, but they’ll try.

Other than that, the only thing to really address is the can of worms that is romantic possibilities. He’s able to truly call him a friend when grown close enough to each other and does show visible improvement in this closeness in stuff like utdp/DrS or Island Mode, but that was already hard enough as it is for Komaeda. I’m not gonna deny that Komahina is “one-sided” in all technical meaning, but not in the way it’s usually used by others. It being one sided means nothing toward Hajime’s general feelings for Komaeda. He still cares about Komaeda regardless of other feelings, but one-sided shouldn’t mean that their relationship stays stagnant?? People use it as if it’s a gatcha to Komahina shippers, which is hilarious.

I don’t like using one sided to describe their relationship as it now has this connotation that Hajime is never going to love him back, and pretty much is an oversimplification of what’s actually preventing him from gaining feelings as well. One-sided is too jarring for me to place on their too complicated mess of a relationship. Kaimaki is one-sided in that I can’t see Kaito responding to her feelings the same way, but somehow they’re suddenly more possible because it’s heterosexual. Too stupid.

Romance should not be important in the healing stage and would probably make things more messy, putting too much importance in romance devalues their relationship to only their ship. Komahina antis are much more guilty of this than the shippers, but it’s a problem I’ve seen with both. If you were to really ask me if Hajime would ever love Komaeda the way Komaeda loves him, then that’s really up to how close Komaeda lets him understand and empathize with him. That’s the only real obstacle here and not one people address well enough.

Hajime could definitely love him otherwise if given the opportunity, but it would destroy Komaeda to let him in that close for him to disappear from his life because of his luck. Issues are complex. Anyway, I hope I answered satisfactory! I could’ve said more, but I’d like to hold those thoughts for another post and I would like to stay on topic believe it or not.

*cracks knuckles* For the ask game, AU where Endeavor tries to be a better dad to his kids (Dabi included). The results are... mixed. Please.

Mixed is the best Endeavor can hope for, eh?

In this AU, Rei had a moment of clarity when Touya tried to strangle baby Shouto. She decided that she needed to get Shouto out of that house, no matter what. She tried to leave with all of her children except Touya. (Yes, she was abandoning Touya. She felt like she had no other choice.) Natsuo refused to leave without Touya. In the end, Rei left with Fuyumi and baby Shouto.

Endeavor returned home to find a note and two hungry boys demanding dinner. Importantly, because Fuyumi was gone, Endeavor couldn't parentify her. Endeavor was forced to become a single dad to two boys and quickly realized how much work Rei had been doing. He knew nothing about cooking or cleaning. He sent Rei expensive jewelry begging her to come back. She sold it so she could rent an apartment instead of staying at a women's shelter.

Touya was delighted to have all of his father's attention, and bragged about driving off Shouto and "the useless females." Endeavor realized that his son had toxic attitudes toward women that probably came from watching how his father treated his mother. Finally making a real commitment to changing, Endeavor started attending therapy.

After Endeavor took a leave from work to look after his sons and work on himself, the media found out about his separation from his wife. Endeavor received public criticism about about letting his personal life interfere with his work. People said that All Might was the number one hero because he never took breaks. Interestingly, All Might stepped up to defend Endeavor. All Might spoke publicly about how heroes deserved work-life balance and about his own exhaustion from overwork. Then All Might showed up at the Todoroki doorstep with frozen meals and an offer to babysit. Endeavor was so relieved to get help that he broke down ugly crying. Strangely, this is the AU where All Might and Endeavor become friends.

Endeavor never got back together with Rei, but they divorced amicably and developed a good co-parenting relationship. The kids spent equal time at both homes. Touya never set himself on fire because Endeavor got him into therapy and gave him more attention. However, Endeavor made the mistake of trying too hard to force Touya to get along with Shouto. It would have been better if Endeavor let it happen more gradually, but instead Endeavor kept forcing them to interact. This only made Touya resent his little brother more. Touya became hyper-competitive toward Shouto.

Shouto does not hate his father. However, Shouto grew tired of Endeavor constantly forcing him into family therapy with Touya. Endeavor would constantly ask Shouto to get along better with Touya, when actually Touya was one-sidedly insulting and bullying Shouto. There was nothing Shouto could do to fix this relationship because Shouto wasn't the problem. Shouto spends less time at his father's house as a result.

Ironically, when they became teenagers, Touya and Shouto bonded over how much they hated it when their father forced them together. Then they started picking fights with each other just to upset Endeavor. As you said, the overall results for this family were mixed. But it still beats canon!

When Adrien first comes to class, Marinette has a little freak out because she already has pictures of him on her wall - just because they’re fashion spreads she took out of Agreste Magazine, but still. Kinda weird to have pictures of someone on your wall that is now in your class but you’ve never met before.

Marinette’s crush does still develop because of Adrien’s personality rather than being a celebrity crush, though. Origins sort of implies that Marinette really isn’t close with any of her classmates and Alya’s her first friend. I imagine most of the classmates don’t actively have negative feelings towards her, but due to Chloe’s bullying and the fact that Chloe often ropes others into it (Kim), she’s wary of opening up. When Adrien stands up to Chloe for her - something no one else is really doing, and especially impressive since she’s been his only friend for who knows how long - it means a lot to Marinette.

Marinette: Th-thanks for your help…

Adrien: Of course. … Is Chloe always like that?

Marinette: Y-yeah, pretty much…

Adrien: I’ve never seen her act like that before. Of course, whenever we’ve hung out, it’s just been the two of us, so I guess I haven’t seen her interact with many other people.

Marinette: How do you know Chloe?

Adrien: Our parents know each other. She was my only friend for a long time. I can’t believe this is how she’s been treating others the whole time…

Marinette: I’m sorry.

Adrien: No, no, you have nothing to be sorry for. I’m sorry she’s been treating you this way. It’s not okay.

Marinette is awkward, clumsy, and stuttery around everyone. Maybe slightly more around Adrien due to the crush, but not enough of a difference that it’d be notable to others. In fact, as she starts hanging out with Alya, Adrien, and Nino more, she’d start getting more comfortable with them and actually having friends and would become less awkward.

For Adrien’s part, he thinks Marinette is very sweet from the beginning, though obviously quite shy. But it seems like she doesn’t have a lot of friends and, hey, he doesn’t either. As he gets to know her better, he’s pleasantly surprised by her sense of humor, playfulness, and how willing she is to stand up for her friends even if she won’t stand up for herself.

Marinette would gradually catch on that Adrien’s home life isn’t good. She would feel powerless to directly do anything about it (such as confronting Gabriel), but would do what little things she can to ease Adrien’s burden in the only way she knows how. Hanging out with him when she can, bringing him extra sweets and little gifts, letting him hang out at the bakery with her and her parents on the rare occasions he’s allowed to get away from the house and his other responsibilities. When he is stuck at home, they play online rpgs together.

They are both dealing with trauma - Marinette at school and Adrien at home - and they bond over trying to help one another with those. Adrien helps Marinette at school and Marinette helps Adrien outside of school. While they don’t necessarily realize or vocalize it, they know a little of what the other person is going to and want to help them. That mutual connection leads to a deepening relationship.

The newest chapter of Dazai’s Moving Detective Agency is so fucking good it is now my fave chapter I did not expect THAT to be the solution to the heart thing. Also the Akutagawa and Atsushi thing was Goddamn hilarious.

HULLO oh my gosh I'm sorry this took me so long to respond to alskdfjskfjs this ask was one of the ones that kept disappearing and reappearing in my browser inbox for some reason — ANYWAY YESSS (I want to talk about spoilers for chapter 19 so I'm gonna put them under the cut :0)

Ok so the heart thing! I wanted to mention that I remember seeing your comment where you theorized about how maybe the heart thing would be solved by Chuuya and Dazai kissing or saying "I love you" for the first time, and that maybe they could metaphorically share a heart between them, and the way you wrote it sounded so nice and romantic and lovely and while I was reading it I was internally just thinking "oh no" because of how it was actually going to go XD

In retrospect I really did have Chuuya solve it in the most brute force way possible aksdjfksfjks — speaking of that scene though, it did change a bit from the way I had originally planned it! Since I wrote the story back to front, I figured out the ending first, then the middle, then went back to the beginning and worked forward from there — so as a result, by the time I got back to the ending, a bunch of character stuff had changed.

Basically, in my first draft, Chuuya was going to get out of the chasm, find Dazai in the castle ruins, tell Yosano "before you say anything I know this is very medically inadvisable", then immediately pull his own heart out of his chest and split it in half (much to the utter horror of everyone watching). I was kind of hand-waving the magic aspect at that point, figuring "well, he's a star with a shit-ton of magic, he can probably survive doing wild stuff like that".

...But then I started writing everything out from the beginning, and added all the stuff with Chuuya learning not to shut out the people who care about him and to let them help him when he's in trouble, and in the process of really digging into his character arc I realized that I had made it so that him acting on his own like that would have been rolling back the character development I had already given him aksjdfksdfjskj SO I thought about it for a looong time and gradually figured out how to incorporate Rimbaud, Yosano, Kyouka, and the rest into all helping out in their own ways. And I ended up liking that version way better, since it fits more with the theme of support and the importance of all Chuuya's bonds he's made along the way, so I think it was worth the extra effort in the end!

...It still is a very brute-force way to solve it though XD Chuuya has a very straight forward approach to everything ksjfkdsj

ANYWAY that was a long ramble — I'm also really glad you enjoyed the Akutagawa and Atsushi shenanigans, I ended up having way too much fun with that part :D Their interactions are actually pretty similar to how I initially planned everything out (that end part where Dazai and Chuuya are completely wrapped up in each other while everything is spiraling out of control around them is heavily inspired by the ending of the book version of Howl's Moving Castle, and I had most of the dialogue for it figured out from the beginning).

...Honestly, considering how out of order I wrote it, I'm surprised I didn't have to scrap more scenes. As it is, the only things that really ended up getting changed/scrapped were:

A part of chapter 11 (in particular, the bit where Chuuya and Dazai talk after Dazai brings Akutagawa and Kyouka to the castle was originally a very different tone, because Chuuya was not supposed to have gotten as far along his "realizing he has feelings for Dazai" arc)(I do still kinda like the original version for the comedy aspect, but I like the way the final version fits with their relationship progression better)

A scene where Dazai was going to get drunk, which had to be scrapped entirely (I was basing it off of the book scene where Howl gets drunk and goes on a rant about the curse, but I ended up deciding that it a), made things way too obvious, and b), Chuuya should have absolutely figured everything out from what Dazai said and I didn't want to make Chuuya seem like a moron)

The final confrontation between Chuuya, Dazai, and Fyodor changed a LOT. I rewrote that scene. So many times. Similar to the Chuuya-pulling-out-his-heart-scene, there was a bit in my original draft that ended up being very out of character for Dazai because of how his and Chuuya's relationship had developed in the rest of the story, so I had to completely switch around how they got into the chasm in the first place. I again think it was worth the effort though, because I think where it landed (Dazai completely losing control of the situation and having to trust Chuuya to save them both) was more interesting for Dazai's arc as well.

Anyway, all that said— I've had a really really good time writing this fic, and I'm happy other people have enjoyed it too!! (And hopefully I can actually finish chapter 20 soon aksdjfksdj things keep getting in the way of it help)

Posted a romantic headcanons here so here are some platonic ones!

-You likely bond over talking, initially. The guy loves to talk to anyone who will listen and is delighted when someone actually makes conversation with him.

-Giving him compliments, gifts, or otherwise being nice too quickly after meeting him will actually put him on edge. He's afraid you're setting him up somehow.

-He likes to brag and to be praised. Not overly so, but enough to feel like he has support and can relish in his proud moments.

-The first many times you interact with him, he tries to offer you some sort of deal. He doesn’t seek friends usually, and he’s used to only being approached for business. So he asks you what you’re looking for from him, shows you products he has, or at the very least reinterprets you interaction as some sort of deal such as “You give me a listening ear, I give you my thoughts”

-Gradually, though, he warms up to the thought of spending time with you just because. He starts to realize that he looks forward to seeing you, he wants to tell you little things about his day, he gets worried when he doesn’t hear from you or when you’re unwell.

-He can be quite a chatterbox so long as you let him. He tells you everything from how well business has been going to a funny tasque he saw to memories. He appreciates having someone to share his thoughts with.

-He tries to be a good listener for you, too. He might get a little excited with his own thoughts, but he remembers to let you repeat yourself if he interjected, or return to a topic that you didn’t seem quite done with. He likes to hear your thoughts and know how you’re doing!

-Eventually he becomes more comfortable in receiving your affection. Sometimes he feels like he doesn’t deserve the nice treatment, but he at least knows that you mean well. With a little support he’ll realize that it’s okay to accept good things and enjoy them without offering anything in return, and that he deserves kindness.

-He does his best to help you with everything. Buying groceries? He can help carry them home! Sick? He will bring you soup and visit with you!

-He’s a little nervous to admit it, and shy about initiating it himself, but he loves when you show him any kind of physical affection like a hug or pat on the back. If you’ve established through repeated touches that this contact is okay, then he comforts you when you’re down with a hug.

-He’s so supportive of you!

  --Job interview or promotion coming up? That’s great, you’re a real big shot, moving up in the world! He will celebrate it with you with a “discount” (in other words, giving you free of charge) on an activity you enjoy or a gift.

Not at all, I actually think Nene is the most utterly normal straight girl LOL. She likes otome games where you are a protag dating a dozen cute boys or whatever, and in her fantasies, all boys are pointed at her and oggling her … she is just into a harem fantasy. It's all about how hot and impressive she is--!! In a way the boys in the harem interacting is like… too complicated, for early manga Nene? It's such a straightforward want to be desirable …

She has a more 'realistic' kind of fantasy outside of that, which she actively works towards-- where she alters her hobbies and vocations to appease a boy (and those vocations are things like learning to cook, sew, garden…)… and she ah, does deep down, understand she isn't conventionally desirable (TT__TT) so she has a submissive kind of brutal realist fantasy of, toiling or proving herself loyal to a boy through ah, subservience … (oh Nene-chan….)

I don't even think she… perceives … much between two boys, naturally, in the way a lot of people don't jump to that kind of assumption-- like, I don't think Nene perceives the layers between Mitsuba and Kou as romantic at all, thus far, in the story? Just that Mitsuba is a friend Kou wants badly to help. (Kou being interested in her romantically would make it confusing to parse, really)

If Nene liked BL, that would be funny for Hanako to observe and psychoanalyze (I assume the typical narrative of the ~delusional degraded girl left to rot into a fujoshi would just occur to him naturally, like damn girl, you've been alone for too long; your fantasies have become too convoluted lol), but instead he's only here to comment on and observe her thirsty fantasies where 10 guys line up for her, hahaha. He sees THAT and goes, pervert, lol…. dirty thought haver... lol...

he's charitable and pities her for wanting to be hot in a conventional way......…

In reality I think of her gradual observing of the Yugi twins and, wishing for them to resolve what is going on between them, as something she earnestly wants for them both-- ehr, platonically, initially, you know, just normally … their story is sad, and, they are brothers, they were important to one another, Hanako feels seemingly guilt and misery about the murder, so… Nene's likely-future-interest in them healing their bond, is as straightforward and sincere as Neige wanting to heal the Ambrose twins broken relationship in AidaIro's Snow White. It'll just become so obvious and apparent both parties are still loving and wanting the other. Hanako is so ah, avoidant, and Tsukasa so mysterious, that we're softly chipping away at Nene realizing, "Tsukasa is precious to Hanako".

Neige, in Snow White, observes the brother's sad pining for the other, and becomes straight up frustrated and yells at them about it, like, "NEITHER OF YOU HATE EACH OTHER, YOU BOTH WANT THE SAME THINGS, SO WHY IS IT LIKE THIS???" and she doesn't need any kind of interest in BL, you know? It's a sincere story, at first………

But actually that is why it's captivating to think of her organically… understanding, parsing, that there is, "more" going on under the surface…?

"Tsukasa is precious to Hanako" is step 1, not the final conclusion. And I also think that's the… point, of her and Hanako forming a romance, and all of this parallel between how avoidant and fussy he is towards Nene, and how avoidant and fussy he can be towards Tsukasa. I think, once Nene can truly understand, "Hanako loves me, but, he refuses to let himself have things he loves, because he is afraid, for some reason", she could see how he creates the same obscurity and distance between himself and Tsukasa. Hanako cannot say "I love you" directly to either of them … by having a romance with Hanako, she can directly experience the same foibles as Tsukasa.

Nene is really… interested in Hanako's emotions, fundamentally, she wants to 'know' him. She is trying to solve his behavior… her most spellbound moments are, when Hanako is distressed, upset, finally dropping his facade. I suppose I think it could gradually become apparent to her, or else, apparent all at once, that Hanako was in love with his brother, and, he doesn't know what to do about that, and, he's running from it, just like he runs from Nene over and over. Hanako never wants to confront anything. He doesn't want to talk about what Tsukasa makes him feel, or what happened between them, or why he did what he did (and does Hanako even fully understand?).

I think if you fed Nene information point blank early manga like, "hey, this guy who sexually harasses you is also a brocon", that wouldn't really be anything to her, not exciting or captivating on its own-- its not 'that kind of interest' in and of itself. But at this point, the mystique and secrets of Hanako are so DEEP and INSCRUTABLE, that she'd be grateful for any information. And at this point, "Hanako was in love with his twin brother" would would be more like, "ah… so thats why he wouldn't tell me anything, and that's why he's so secretive about him. That's a good reason. It must be confusing, even for him, to understand why he does anything, or what he wants with his brother." Literally anyone would keep that secret buried eternally.

After so long in the dark with Hanako, it'd be like a… relief, to, understand why the secrecy. Thus far, Nene has thought something like, "why doesn't he trust me?" or, "what is he so afraid of me finding out? What could be so bad, when he's already a murderer, and I already accept that? When I already accept him trying to have Aoi killed, or trying to trap me?" At that point, it's like, oh. Naruhodo. Also, of course he, can't, talk about it, he can't even talk about his FEELINGS FOR NENE, a NORMAL GIRL AND PERSON TO LIKE. Its like… I don't think considering the Yugi for Nene, is like, "hot" or "sexy" on first blush, it's more like…………….. ok, I get it, that would, cause problems, in one's life, and be difficult to cope with, and, ever talk about ………………………… its kind of not her fault then that he won't say anything, lol.

It's not like, "hot because it is two boys", it's not as if Nene has an established interest in that whatsoever-- though she has uh, an established "omg" its like its exotic to her or something, www...

(: I think twins is a very 'happy ending' for Nene-chan ... and I think relating to Tsukasa and being so similar to him, would make her feel more secure in how and why Hanako loves her... Its like a corruption arc in a way. This innocent straight girl who wants a normal relationship with a guy is going to be swept into this crazy twin love story. And she is gonna. LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I truly adore the fact that while Deamon is seen (and, I mean honestly is) the most wild, reckless Targaryen that steamrolls over people (unlike Rhaenyra and Viserys who have the parental roles in this fic) he is actually the one that has given her true freedom and is helping her bloom into her own agency. In the most depraved, delicious way cuz… c’mon it’s Daemon, he can’t help being a nasty meow meow. Costume was beyond hot (PUSSY SPANKING??? 🥵🫠) and while I am still panting in excitement for the possibility of her fully taking the reins and making that boy cry from pleasure, I love love love the fact that yes, these are fun one shots of their married life, but you’ve still put so much care and thought in showing a gradual development in their bond and in her as a person.

I’m also so happy to see the little glimpses of their family and how they’re interacting as a whole, it make it so much more immersive than just having the main characters existing in a bubble. Plus I really appreciate how Rhaenyra was never used as a throw away character to cause some drama, she’s still here, present and very much disgusted and I’m LIVING FOR IT 😂 I can only imagine the misery she will have to go through once Reader is preggo and Daemon has *questions* 🤣

Hey, 🍑! I’m so glad you enjoyed this update - a whole bunch that I didn’t have planned ended up sneaking it’s way in there (hello asshole touching). I’ve honestly been letting them do what they want, picture me as the reluctant writer in the corner watching them fuck haha. I’m also shocked that the pregnancy thing has been so delayed, given that that’s one of my ultimate favourite tropes (and kinks) to read in fanfics; I can only hope the anticipation doesn’t make it impossible to live up to the hype 🥺

Reader is slowly blossoming under Daemon’s… unique brand of ✨care✨ 😈 and it’s been a real joy to map out her gradual development; she’s now asking him for outrageous little things like at the end of Costume, and I reckon a time will be coming where Reader gets to take the reins a bit 😉. Not for long, though - uncle is in control, after all. And yeah, I wasn’t expecting this anthology to include genuine character development, but it’s been really cool so far; it’s been great to spotlight some of the less-developed characters like Viserys and Otto, and even introduce some new ones like Rodrick and Gita and Milla. Just fun side-character shenanigans! Introducing them here means that if I end up using them later on, there’s less work needed to develop their purpose.

I knew when beginning this story that Rhaenyra was never going to be the villain; she’s too swag for that and I LOVE HER. There was a bit of necessary angst to start with, but I never wanted to use her as a love rival because that’s a trope I enjoy but can’t be bothered writing. Most of the drama was in silly Reader’s head, poor thing, and it was just noice to deal with and resolve that narrative arc as expediently as possible. Rhaenyra’s got her own life now - an awesome sidekick hubby, her excellent lover Harwin (and Laena, RIP), her three boys and de-facto son and twin daughters (I mean, baby Corwyn and Baela and Rhaena are all technically half-sibling with her own kids, and my head canon is that they were pretty much team-raised by Rhae, Laena and Harwin so), a lovely little sis and a cushy position as Princess of Dragonstone. Point is, in this AU she doesn’t need Daemon - but I liked the inclusion of the idea that ‘if events had unfolded differently [i.e. like canon] she would have married him’. It’s not completely removing what they were to each other, but at the same time it’s not a declaration of longing or anything. She is suffering dealing with how obnoxious a happy and in-love uncle Daemon is, though, especially seeing as how he’s not shy in smugly reminding people that he gets good pussy on the regular (from her innocent little sister, fucking Christ she’s done).

Everyone’s gonna be so tense when Reader gets pregnant - Daemon’s gonna be the ultimate dadzilla like you wouldn’t believe!

11. When did Ian first say I love you to Mickey?

I’m stealing one of @deanie1987’s headcanons by saying after Mickey came out in 4x11. I think it was the perfect time and I curse the fact that it didn’t actually happen on the show. I figure it was probably after they left the bar and went back to the house. Ian was tending to one of Mickey’s wounds and it just slipped out. I don’t think Mickey said it back, being too overwhelmed (I do believe that phone call message after Ian ran off with Yevgeny in S5 was the first time Mickey explicitly said it) and Ian didn’t push it. He’d already pushed enough that night. And besides, after what Mickey did, I don’t think there was a doubt that Mickey loved him in that moment in time, even if he couldn’t say it yet.

14. Secret cute pet name for each other?

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I don’t personally see them being big on pet names outside of Mickey’s random nicknames for Ian and Ian of course calling Mickey ‘Mick’. I think during really emotional moments, they both will let the word ‘baby’ slip out from time to time. But I don’t think it’s a super common occurrence.

Mickey and Lip’s relationship is still complicated at times. They have respect for each other and at the end of the day, do consider each other family and would have the others back when the chips are down. But they both can still piss the other off in a way no one else can lol. They try to get along better later on for Ian’s sake but let’s just say if there is drama during family gatherings, more than half the time it’s between Lip and Mickey.

Mickey and Tami though, I could see becoming an unexpected pair of friends once the initial iciness between them melted. I could see them bonding over the fact that they’re the two Gallagher in-laws. And I think they’re actually a lot alike when it comes to their attitudes and the way they interact with people lol. They’re also the person the other can go to when they want to rant about Lip or Ian, because they can trust the other to be less biased than one of the other Gallagher siblings.

I think Lip and Tami are still together. I see them as the kind of couple that gradually fall in love the longer they’re a couple. At the beginning, they stayed together for Fred’s sake. But over time, as Tami became more and more integrated with the Gallaghers, they both had that realization that somewhere along the way, they did grow to love and trust each other a lot. It’s not the instant, all-consuming love of Ian and Mickey but it’s nice in its own way. I see them eventually getting married longer down the road, after they’ve had a second kid and Fred is like seven or eight. When they finally do it the rest of the family has gotten so used to their relationship that they’re like “it’s about time”.

What are they generally like? Lucid, aware? Obsessive? How do they behave?

Very much aware. In the beginning, it frustrates him. He’s never been particularly attached to anyone, outside of his former instructor. He’s always enjoyed being out on his own, spending extended amounts of time by himself – the desire to be around someone is a foreign feeling for him. He immediately notices how bizarre the emotion is for him, how it changes his behaviors. His self awareness combined with perceptiveness makes him able to acutely recognize not only how unusual this emotion is for him, but also how the extent of his feelings, the types of desires they ignite in him, is unusual even for “normal” people who aren’t social recluses.

He’s frustrated by his own actions, feels embarrassed at how attached he is to you, how easily you make him flustered and trip over his words. As he is a very aware yandere, he’s definitely afraid of rejection to some degree. He has no idea how to navigate feelings and interactions with other people, he’s never really had the desire to form a particularly strong bond with anyone before. As such, he’ll come across as very awkward, and he will interact with you less than most yanderes – he knows he’s just going to embarrass himself if he talks to you, right? He’ll just mess up and say something strange, so instead, he opts to watch you from the shadows, go to places where you are, but keep a distance from you, just being able to watch you makes him feel fluttery and overwhelmed. 

He will definitely be one to collect things from you. He collects plenty of things for the sake of science, this is no different. Or so he tries to tell himself, but he can’t delude himself even if he tries. He knows its weird, he knows its wrong, but the overwhelming urge to have things of yours is too great to resist. He’ll start off with more innocent things, but it will gradually progress to not-so-innocent… items of yours.

It may not be obvious, but he’s actually a fairly sensitive person, at least regarding you. He places a lot of value in what you think of him, and wants to ensure you’ll respond positively to him. He views it like a science – there should be some formula by which he can put in the correct actions, and produce a specific result. Unfortunately, unlike real science, there’s not much room for trial and error – he feels he only has once chance.

How likely are they to kidnap their darling? How quickly will they do so?

It will take some time, as he’s got to get over his own nerves first. He’s torn between the fear of you hating him for such a thing, it would be the end of the world for him, but also the desire to pull you away from the world, to keep you hidden from others, to have you all to himself, to be the only person that gets to look at you. If you start showing positive signs, reacting positively to his gifts, expressing interest in conversation with him and going out of your way to see him, he’ll start to get more confident, think that he can afford to do something that might sour your opinion of him, hoping it will merely be temporary.

He’ll probably start to do so several times and back out. He’ll set out at night, make it all the way to your room and stand over your sleeping form, and he’ll start to worry, wonder if someone saw him, see holes in his plans, he gets too nervous and bolts. He’ll persuade you into being alone with him, and although its the chance he’s looking for, again, he’ll get nervous, worry about being caught, run through all the what-ifs, and miss the chance. Honestly, when he does finally take you, it will probably be not planned, but in the heat of the moment, a rash decision from desperation. Something like you coming to visit him to tell him you’re leaving the area, came to say goodbye, and he’ll panic, ultimately grabbing you by the arm as you try to leave and dragging you back inside, silently, but forcefully.

How difficult is it to escape from them? How do they keep you restrained? How do they deal with attempted escape?

Moderately difficult. Your best bet is to take advantage of his tendency to be absent minded when he’s absorbed in his work. He gets very lost in his thoughts, to a point where he’ll completely zone out and be oblivious to the world around him. On the downside, this means you won’t have much time to cover distance, he’ll be close behind the moment he realizes you’re gone.

The route he’ll probably take is actually one where you won’t need to be too restrained, because you’ll be taking… a little research trip. Out to the most freezing, desolate areas of the mountains. He’s convinced the knights he needs to stay there for his research, but in reality, he’s internally panicking, as he tries to figure out how to make this work – after all, you two can’t stay here forever. You’d be foolish to run out of the little cabin he’s bought, out into the perilous freezing cold and jagged, high slopes. At first, he thinks there’s no way you’d try it, so he’s content letting you have free reign to walk around as you please. If he has to leave for whatever reason, he’ll probably lock you into a single room, but he won’t chain you up, as again, he's really trying to avoid making you hate him.

If you prove to be determined to leave, he’ll be hurt, but mostly concerned for you. He’s actually not one to get too mad over an escape attempt – he’ll blame himself, or theorize it’s just a natural response your brain triggered. Against his first choice, he’ll end up having to get more strict with your restraints. If you get too whiny, though… you might trigger one of his more frustrated moments.

“I didn’t want to have to do this… I’m sorry. I can’t risk anything bad happening to you. Tell me if it’s too tight… I don’t want to hurt you. I don’t blame you. I know you’re probably panicking over all this, but you’ll get adjusted to it, I promise. Just… just give it some time… it’s not so bad, living with me, I promise.”

“Don’t be like that. You’re only tied up because you tried to leave. You should understand why you have to be kept like this… If you don’t want to be restrained, you shouldn’t have run out, trying to get yourself killed.”

How easy are they to trick, deceive, or manipulate?

For all his academic intelligence, he’s not highly skilled with people and socialization. He’s not too good at being able to tell when he’s being lied to, and he definitely won’t pick up on subtle manipulation. It’ll be pretty easy to wrap him around your finger, he’ll do what he can to make you happy.

Once he finds out you’ve lied to him, though, he’ll get pretty upset. He likely won’t trust you again, and will require proof of anything you say, or set out to find out if you’re telling him the truth or not.

How lenient are they? What privileges can you have, and what will you be denied?

He’ll try to accommodate you, giving you things you ask for, but he has limits. He’s too paranoid to let you have any contact with the outside world. You do have him wrapped around your finger to an extent, though. Whatever he’s doing at the moment, he’ll drop it in a heartbeat if you want to spend time with him in any way, even if its just you asking for food or to take a walk. He’ll be willing to take you for very short trips outside, no further than a few yards from the lodging, if only because he knows sunlight is vital to your health.

What kind of rules do they have? What kind of punishment would they use?

The basics will be there – don’t try to leave, don’t be difficult with him, try to cooperate, be obedient. However, he’s also particularly overprotective of anything that can hurt you – even yourself. Under no circumstances can you handle anything that can hurt you – that means no cooking, no knives, no lifting anything heavy, no going outside without him. If you’re determined to cook something, he’ll have to stand right behind you, and watch while you do it. If you get so much as a little cut or burn, he’ll take over, insisting you go sit down after he tends to your “wounds.”

At the very beginning, he’ll be hesitant to punish you too much, as part of his plan to get you to like him. However, he can be a little easily frustrated, and your safety and well-being comes first, even if it means he has to make you upset. He will have to restrain you, take away what little privileges you had. If you try to bolt while you’re outside, no more going outside. If you try something foolish like attacking him with a knife when he gives you cooking privileges, you will lose said privileges. Really, the worst part of it all is the humiliation, being treated like a dumb, incapable baby that can’t do anything for yourself. He insists on doing everything for you, even down to bathing you and dressing you, even feeding you if you can’t convince him to take restraints off your hands. He’ll talk down to you in that way, too, talking to you as if you were a child.

How do they deal with rivals, or perceived rivals? Will they get rid of them? Will they kill them themselves, or find another way?

It’s a situation he’s not prepared to handle, and he’s unsure of what to do. It strikes fear in him that you might have someone else interested, so he has to get rid of them as quickly as possible. He’s not opposed to killing, if it comes down to that, but initially, he’ll try to work behind the scenes – expose something that will ruin their reputation, get them accused of a crime. This would also be one of the possible aforementioned situations that might cause him to kidnap you a bit earlier than he normally would, as well. If he can’t get rid of them easily, he’ll just take you away from them.

He will absolutely try to make you hate them, try to ruin your image of them, and he’s rather good at falsifying evidence for his claims of their behavior. With his alchemic skills, that sort of thing is easily possible.

How easy is it to make them mad? What does their anger look like?

He gets more frustrated than anything, when you’re being difficult. This is mostly just him sighing quite a bit, speaking a bit harshly, even pouting and sulking a bit if you’ve offended him. But true anger in him is not pretty, and almost never happens. It’s a buildup, a slow rise that has a boiling point. If he reaches that point, he can definitely get mad enough to hurt you, it’s actually kind of terrifying in how sharp of a contrast it is to how he normally is. It’s a side of him that’s very difficult to draw out. He’s not one to yell or shout, no, his anger is a suffocating silence, he slams down whatever he’s holding as he stomps over to you, grabbing you by the arms hard enough to bruise, and dragging you by the hair to whatever he has planned.

With mild frustration outbursts, he will feel justified, but if it reaches that intense anger, he’ll usually give at least a little apology, tell you he didn’t mean to go that far. Of the genshin boys, he’s one of the most determined. He’s not good with people, and he doesn’t really have anyone particularly close to him left anymore. He tends to keep people at a distance. You sort of fill an space inside him that he never knew was empty, a void he wasn’t aware he had until it was consumed by thoughts of you. He doesn’t need anyone or anything else, so long as he has you with him, but he really, really wants it to be true that you love him. He doesn’t need you to even love him as much as he loves you – he doesn’t even know if that’s possible – but he just wants to know that, even if only in the slightest, his feelings are returned. He’s so distant from everyone else, but you wormed your way into his heart, even if you didn’t intend to, with your smiles and softness and kindness towards him. For the first time, he feels weak around someone, but in a way, it’s a good feeling. He wants to be able to be vulnerable, be weak, and not have anything to fear by doing so.

He’s lucid, though, so he doesn’t expect you to love him immediately. As he’s not good with words or displays of affection, he’ll get you all sorts of gifts. Rare items that you wonder how the hell he obtained them, beautifully crafted little trinkets from all his searching and time traveling, more clothes than you could ever wear. You’ll start to feel a little guilty, it’s so much, and you’re certain he doesn’t have that much money. He’ll blow it off, say it’s no big deal, but if you insist, he’ll have to start finding new ways to convey his affection. In captivity, he won’t stop trying, but he’ll understand why you might be angry. In that case, he will utilize what he’s learned from research in books he’s read. He knows that eventually, with him being the only one you have, the only company, the only one to talk to, the only source of touch, you’ll eventually have to cave. You’ll become attached to him, bond with him, whether you like it or not. He knows how powerful the affect of touch can be, and will make sure to hold you in his arms, keep you on his lap, make you crave the only source of human touch you can get. Dependency, he thinks, is the gateway to you loving him.

Bonus: Is there anything that makes them unique, in comparison to other yanderes?

Drawings. So many of them. Much like his drawings he uses in notes, he’s found he tends to start scribbling a familiar face when his mind drifts off. He’s memorized every little detail of your face, every curve on your body. If you’re ever snooping around, you’ll eventually uncover a book of sketches he has solely dedicated to drawings of you. Drawings of you laughing, smiling, sleeping, drawings that you’re certain were of real events you were at, that you didn’t remember him being at. Every bit in perfect detail. If you confront him about it, he’ll be horrifically embarrassed, insisting they’re no good, or, if you’re upset, trying to reassure you it was all from his mind and totally not him lurking in the shadows as he watches you.

Also, if you want to make him happy, get him on one of his spiels about his work, his interests, anything that he can catch onto and go on and on about. He’ll catch himself rambling and apologize for being “annoying,” but if you reassure him, and express interest, that will make him feel particularly appreciated. It would be a primary way to get on his good side and manipulate him, or lull him into false security to make your escape, if that’s what you’re looking to do. But be warned, it will only work once, and he’ll be far too hurt to let himself indulge in sharing these things with you again.

General perverseness: how sexual of a person are they? What’s their drive like? How touchy do they get? Do they have any reservations about sexuality?

Publicly, definitely highly reserved. He’s easily flustered, and thinks of sex in a very scientific way, for the purpose of procreation. Why Elriel has the most realistic relationship in the ACOTAR series

Disclaimer: If you’re reading this, please take a step back from your personal preferences (ships, characters). This post lacks any subjectivity and focuses, instead, on the timeline (canon) of the ACOTAR series, and what this means for the development of Azriel and Elain’s relationship.

I’m always surprised when I read a post claiming that Elriel is not realistic, or that it came out of nowhere. While I will use scenes from the books as references, my biggest argument against Elriel not being realistic, or having come out of nowhere, is the passing of time (and compatibility).

These two characters have spent more time together than any other ACOTAR couple.

How, then, does it not make sense that they developed a mutual attraction/feelings for one another?

Remember: We have yet to read Elain’s POV, and have read very little about Azriel’s thoughts and feelings, but the little we do know is very telling.

Let’s start by looking at compatibility—something that Maas has focused on, again and again, since their first meeting. 

Feyre draws constant parallels between them—how alike they are in temperament. How similar they are, both able to put others at ease without much difficulty. They’ve shared one scene together, interacted once, and Feyre can already picture it, picture them together.

Most importantly, however, Maas draws the reader’s attention to their ability to read one another. Remember—Azriel’s own family is unable to discern his thoughts/emotions and yet, Elain manages to do so during their first meeting.

This shows how perceptive they both are.

Their ability to read each other is addressed again in Azriel’s Bonus POV, but more on that later. 

Then, in ACOWAR, the little hints about their compatibility increase tenfold. Do you think that it’s a coincidence that Elain interacts with Azriel moments after her first interaction with Lucien?

(It is also interesting to note the description in this passage. The image is poetic, and the meaning behind this moment (him carrying her in his arms through the front door - bridal-style? - even more so).

Do you think that it’s a coincidence that, after saying that no one truly sees her (or bothers to look), we see Azriel offering to show Elain the garden? He senses what she needs before anyone else does.

(It should also be noted that he offers to show it to her, something that no one asked him to do.)

Do you think that it’s a coincidence that Elain, who is viewed as the weakest of the Archeron sisters, is never afraid (or intimidated by) Azriel, who is often perceived as one of the (if not the) most feared member of the IC? Azriel, with his shadows and wings, with his cold eyes and expressionless face?

Do you think that it’s a coincidence that Feyre noticed the small moment between them, when Elain looked at his scars and called them beautiful? The scars on his hands are a reminder of the horrors he endured and yet, Elain calls them beautiful.

(It is almost as if she truly sees him, as well).

Finally, do you think that it’s a coincidence that Feyre, who witnessed both, Elain’s interaction with Lucien and Azriel, questions whether the Cauldron chose the right mate for Elain?

Again, we have the poetic description, and two contrasting images: brutal and lovely. And yet, Feyre looks at them and sees how compatible they truly are. She knows Lucien well—she considers him a friend—and yet, the chemistry between Azriel and Elain is so evident (and has been since ACOMAF), that she cannot help but wonder if the Cauldron made a mistake.

I would also like to draw your attention to the scene that Feyre witnesses between them. They are both sitting in silence and yet, they appear content. Do you know how rare it is to be in the same room with someone and not feel the need to fill the silence with conversation? I don’t know about you, but I’ve only ever experienced this feeling with the people I’m closest to. 

Azriel understands Elain’s need for peace and quiet (a need that he shares and can relate to, as well), and he chooses to stay with her in the garden (again, no one asked him to). She is comfortable enough around him to not mind his presence. In fact, with Elain drinking her tea and Azriel reading his reports, they are the very picture of domesticity.

Then, Azriel continues to seek out her presence.

Any interactions between them take place behind the scenes, but again, notice how Azriel is the one offering to keep her company in the garden. Feyre was going to do it herself, but he stepped in. What can we conclude from this?

He enjoys her company.

So much so that, after the Ravens’ attack, when Nesta worries about Elain, Rhys informs her that Azriel was still at the house when the attack happened.

The scenes that follow are the most widely discussed, so I will only mention them briefly:

It is not a coincidence that it was Azriel (and not Lucien) who figured out that Elain is a seer (nor is it a coincidence that he was the only one who truly listened to her, instead of thinking that she’s gone mad, like everyone else).

It is not a coincidence that he was the only one who thought of her when the Cauldron lured her away. Why didn’t Nesta, the overprotective older sister? Or Feyre, who dreamed of it happening? Why did Maas have Azriel utter, “What about Elain?”

It is not a coincidence that he was the one who risked his life to save hers (and not Lucien). 

I believe that, if Elain wasn’t already feeling some kind of pull towards Azriel, having him rescue her was the final push in that direction.

And it makes perfect sense.

She’s never seen by anyone (not even her sisters)—until she meets Azriel. Not only does he pay attention to what she needs, he keeps her company, and seemingly enjoys being in her presence.

Similarly, it makes perfect sense for Azriel to feel a pull towards Elain, as well.

Contrary to what a loud majority has been saying, Azriel does not need another Cassian or Mor in his life. He is quite obviously an introvert, who craves peace and quiet above all else. He is surrounded by extroverts and, if you’re an introvert, you know how draining it can be. It makes sense, then, that he gravitated towards Elain, whose temperament matches his.

Again, it all comes down to compatibility.

They understand each other.

He understands her need for peace and quiet, and she understands his.

They accept each other.

But, more importantly, they trust each other. 

It makes sense, doesn’t it? That he risked his life without a second thought to save hers. By the time Elain gets taken, Azriel and Elain have spent time in each other’s company and have quite obviously formed a bond/connection—a companionship of sorts, built on mutual understanding and acceptance.

She trusts him. She feels safe with him. Something that I guarantee she hasn’t felt since being violated and changed into a Fae against her will.

Similarly, he trusts her.

Why does Azriel give Truth-Teller, his legendary blade, to Elain? He doesn’t just let her touch it; he actually lends it to her, and trusts her enough to know that she’ll return it to him when she’s ready to.

In 500+ years, he has never let another person touch that blade—not even Mor, the woman he loves—but he parts with it for Elain.

Why? Because he knows that she cannot go into a battlefield unarmed, and understands that she, too, trusts him enough to accept it and use it if need be.

We, as readers, understand the importance of this moment. Maas draws our attention to Cassian’s shock, and includes the dialogue between Feyre and Rhys to underline, again and again, that something extremely significant is taking place.

So significant, in fact, that the scene was included in the coloring book and mentioned again in ACOFAS.

Maas is once again saying how rare this is. How different. How significant.

And what about the description? Like before, Maas uses poetic wording and contrasting imagery to describe Azriel and Elain.

The only bridge of connection—because what we are seeing, what we’ve been getting hints of, is two people who have slowly formed a connection.

Trust is earned.

Trust is built.

It does not happen overnight.

Remember—the majority of Azriel and Elain’s relationship takes place behind the scenes. We know that they are spending time together—and even have a description of some of their interactions—but we don’t really know what happens when it’s just the two of them.

This connection between them does not happen overnight.

ACOFAS takes place months after the war.

And what do we witness?

Azriel and Elain having grown even closer. In other words, we see progress and development.

He respects her, and cares about her. He makes everyone wait for her to be seated at the table, something he has never done before (similar to when he lended her Truth-Teller).

Again, that understanding.

And Azriel seeking out her company.

And Elain seeing him, paying attention to his needs.

Making him laugh like no one has ever had before.

And finally, them enjoying spending time in each other’s company. At 3 AM.

Azriel would rather sit and listen to Elain talk about her garden than go upstairs with the others.

Notice the pattern of understanding, trust, and connection that Maas has been coming back to (and increasing, strengthening) since ACOMAF.

Why, then, are readers surprised by their feelings?

More than two years have passed since their first meeting.

By the time we get a glimpse into Azriel’s thoughts and feelings, these two characters have been interacting and spending time with each other for years.

No, his feelings did not come out of nowhere.

No, their feelings are not cliché, or unrealistic.

No, he did not get over Mor after meeting Elain. In fact, we went from this in ACOMAF:

To this in ACOWAR:

And finally, to this, in ACOSF:

Again, remember: ACOSF takes place 1.5 years after ACOWAR, and almost 2 years after ACOMAF.

Azriel getting over Mor has been a gradual process. Same with Elain getting over Graysen.

Azriel does not see Elain as the third sister, one he is entitled to.

He actually sees Elain, something that Maas has been hinting at since ACOMAF.

The relationship (and feelings) between these two characters has been building for 2 years.

And 90% of it has taken place behind the scenes.

Azriel’s POV is proof of this:

What looks? What occasional brush of their fingers?

We’ve seen none of this.

And it makes sense.

We haven’t gotten their POVs yet.

Even Azriel’s POV is filled with the pattern that Maas has established for them since ACOMAF.

Understanding (and an ability to read each other without the use of words):

Trust:

Connection:

This is why their relationship is far more realistic (and healthy, but that’s a post for another time) than Feysand’s or Nessian’s. In a way, it reminds me of Kallias and Viviane’s (friends to lovers), who spent years developing a friendship, which then turned into romantic feelings.

Why?

Because they’ve had time.

Time to get to know each other, to connect with each other.

Time to develop a friendship which then slowly turned into romantic feelings and sexual desire.

This is also why I connect with and understand their relationship—more so than anyone else’s in the ACOTAR series.

i just watched let the right one in and i think it's a movie you'd enjoy! have you ever seen it before?

hello!

yes, i have seen it! one of my favourites certainly, though maybe i don't deserve to use that word anymore, i have so many and am mostly indiscriminate with my love

there are a few standout aspects of this film that i adore and i'm going to write about them in point form rather than an essay-type format bc i don't want to commit to being cohesive

- we're introduced to Oskar at an influential time in his life in which it's demonstrated to us that he has no ally to rely on; his parents are mostly cold or emotionally absent and he's bullied at school. the relationship that develops between Eli and Oskar, against a backdrop of a snowed-under playground—metaphor for a childhood frozen in time—is a testament to the purity and potency of understanding someone else's desires, of empathising completely. Oskar wants to be strong, Eli can show him how; when her vampirism comes to light, Eli asks Oskar to be her for a bit and he does.

- Alfredson, the director, said that he "didn't want the grown-ups to be actively mean or evil-minded. [he] wanted them to be uninterested, floppy or ignorant, but always physically nearby the nasty events—if they'd just turned their heads a little..." and you feel this distinction. it creates a fissure between the two children and the adults in the film, and it precipitates them into their own little microcosm. the greatest example being the phys-ed teacher, who is manipulated into allowing the bullies access to the pool in the (!!!) penultimate scene, which to me, is reminiscent of the deferred and profoundly intentional violence that i had previously and primarily associated with del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth or Devil's Backbone. it's not until you see Håkan at the window that you're given access to the acid-burnt side of his face; the grotesquery of the wound is hidden until the audience needs to see it, until we need to understand the extent of what he's experienced. similarly, we're suspended in underwater silence with Oskar, made to count the passing seconds with him. that is, until we see a decapitated head drift down to the pool's floor, the disembodied arm's slowly unfurling fingers.

- speaking of, i LOVE the shot after Oskar breaches the water. the first time Oskar makes direct eye contact with another character in the film is with Eli.

we’ve seen "Oskar [hide] himself not only from the people around him, but also from the camera", as noted by the film's cinematographer, Hoyte van Hoytema. it's remarkable, then, that the first person he makes direct, albeit gradual eye contact with is Eli. a signifier of their bond as it develops, and as he begins to open up more to her. to conclude the film's most searing scene with pointed eye contact between the two has, for me, such a gratifying symmetry to it.

- I believe according to the book, the vampire who turned Eli—born biologically male and named Elias—castrated Eli and feasted on the wound. in the film it’s not really touched upon beyond a brief glimpse of genital scarring. for Oskar, it doesn’t matter:

“Do you like me?” “Yeah. I like you a lot.” “If I wasn’t a girl, would you like me?” “I suppose so.”

“Oskar, I’m not a girl.” “Oh. Well, do you want to go steady or not?”

he’s flippant towards it. the film doesn’t comment in any official capacity on it, and there’s no exposition. the sum of these aggregate parts makes it seem unremarkable, but it’s not. it’s inherently deeply complex in a way i’ve seldom grappled with in vampire canon. i admire how provocative this is (in terms of provoking thoughtful interaction with the subject), and the nuance with which Alfredson conducts this part of the narrative.

Well, “couple” was a bit of an overstatement, it was just that you were always the one accompanying the young don Giovanna when there was a formal event to attend and he needed someone elegant on his arm, being one of the few people close to him, it was only natural that you would be the one to go.

Everyone around you always marveled at how elegantly you had carried yourselves, despite your tender ages, you worked the room like seasoned professionals allowing him to seamlessly embody he title of Don of Passione. Tonight’s grand dinner was slightly different though, Giorno had been acting out of sorts for the better part of the evening and your attention had been spread so thinly you barely had a chance to check on your companion. Even the others had noticed the difference in him and looked to you for an explanation, however you were unable to offer one. You and Giorno had always been close. Being the first person he bonded with when joining Passione, most of his free time outside of running the organization would be spent with you. Watching Giorno from across the room, you saw his strained smile, the slight grimace each time someone beckoned for his attention, you wanted to save him from a few overly eager patrons, when you were dragged away by a few overly eager friends of your own.

“(y/n)! you gotta help us, come on, we’ll explain as we walk there,” said Narancia, perhaps louder than he would have liked to, drawing Giorno’s gaze toward the small commotion.

“Nara, calm down, tell me what happened…” trying to get the full story from your flustered friend. Thankfully, by the time you had gotten to the scene, Bruno had sorted the problem out without as much as breaking a sweat.

“Well, if everything’s okay, I’ll head back… what?” before you could fully turn around to rejoin the party inside, you looked at the former bodyguard squad of Passione, all giving you the same teasing expression they always did before they bombarded you with lighthearted jibes regarding your relationship with the young don of Passione. Your eyes pleaded with them to grant you some respite from their questions, however this was not the case.

“Guys, don’t make her uncomfortable, (y/n) return to Giorno, he’ll be looking for you, the rest of you, go back inside, there’s nothing going on here,” interjected Bucciarati, offering you a chance to escape, which you gladly exploited, mouthing an emphatic thank you to your raven haired savior, the clattering of your designer heels echoing in the foyer as you ran off. Bruno had always had a soft spot for you, treating you more like a younger sister than a soldatessa.

He noticed the gradual change in your interactions with Giorno, and would always smile knowingly when confronted with questions regarding the dons slow burning fascination with you. He was thankful that the risky plan had paid off all those years ago, and felt happy to see you and Giorno finally taking the time to focus on yourselves as opposed to dedicating every moment to the organization. As things began to settle down and Passione was finally the type of organization he could be proud of, he had gradually taken over a few more activities from Giorno, affording the young man some time to make up for the years he had lost in his youth, and fortunately, all of those plans had included you.

From seaside vacations, to trips to snow peaked mountains, you both relished in these novel experiences that were once just a dream, fashioning a bond that grew ever stronger with each shared experience.

“Nara, why are you always messing with her?” quizzed Trish while rolling her eyes as Mista slung an arm around her dainty shoulders.

“I don’t know, it’s fun I guess, (y/n) used to be really close to us before everything got so busy, I guess I just miss those times… don’t you Mista?”

“I guess, a lot has changed… we’ve grown up… we’re responsible for a whole lot more than we once were, it’s only natural that we drift a bit,” reasoned the gunslinger. “That doesn’t mean we aren’t there for each other any longer, come on, lets go back in, the pistols aren’t going to feed themselves,”.

“You’re kidding right? All they do is help themselves to my stuff!” retorted Narancia, walking back with the others to rejoin the festivities of the evening.

As the crowd of bubbly partygoers thinned out, you both decided to escape to the balcony overlooking the stunning Naples skyline. Looking around just once more, you took off the heels that had now become a new-age torture device and shrank a few inches which Giorno found hilarious, letting out a small laugh as he looked down at you.

“Hey! There used to be a time when you couldn’t look down your nose at me like that,”

“I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear you from all the way down there,”

“Oh, so that’s how you’re choosing to play it? I’ll beat you at your own game Gio,”

“Are you testing me, (y/n)?

“Maybe…” you shot Giorno a flirtatious look as you hoisted yourself onto the railing of the balcony, giving yourself the height you needed to get closer to his eyelevel,”

“Eh, I’ve never been phased by tests anyway,” he countered, keeping a watchful eye on you. Despite gripping the railing with both hands, you underestimated the lack of traction your silky outfit offered and began to slip, fortunately for you though, Giorno’s quick reflexes saw to it that you were safely ensconced in his arms.

“Thank you… I… why are you looking at me like that?”

“Oh? So you’ve finally noticed?” Giorno cocked his brow, staring you down again, only this time his face was being drawn closer to yours as if being enacted upon by a magnetism that you both couldn’t counter… not that either of you wanted to. Abandoning your thoughts, you both allowed yourselves to fall gently into the kiss, lips overlapped as he captured your bottom lip between his. Faces moving in sync with each other, you felt as if you would float off if it weren’t for the pair of strong arms holding on to your hips. All too quickly, the magical kiss had ended and you were left yearning for the closeness you both shared just moments ago.

“Listen, (y/n), I’m sorry, this isn’t how I wanted to-”

Silencing him with your thumb brushing against his bottom lip as you held the side of his burning red face, your eyes pleaded with him, but your lips said it out aloud, “Do it again, Gio… kiss me again…”. Not needing a second invitation, the young don honoured your request, weaving his fingers into your hair.

Enraptured by each other, completely oblivious to the tiny audience of your most loved friends watching fondly through the glass door, you and Giorno spent the rest of the night in each other’s warm embrace, relishing the newfound sense of intimacy that was all borne from one impulsive kiss.

I have two suggestions for the Gray Ghost AU.

1: Wes Weston is no longer under suspicion of being a Ghost. Now, he is under suspicion of being the Phantom Hunter. He is athletic, fits the build, is on record as saying he wants to fight Ghosts, and has access to the tech (just BS a connection to the GiW or Axiom). The difference this makes in his regular life is mostly null... except for the fact that Ghosts now keep targeting him for retribution attacks. Danny goes out of his way to obscure his identity from everyone, meaning Wes is seen as them catching Phantom Hunter off guard. I imagine him trying to pin it on Danny but because he so clearly disdains his parent's work, literally no one believes him.

2: The idea of Danny getting his hands on an Ectoplasm enhanced suit like the Technus upgrade Val got to her suit, most likely given by Maddie as a way to bond with Danny (and further prep him for a transformation into a Halfa). Except given his preexisting contamination (his mum is half Ghost) and Maddie messing with the suit, he ends up with the suit now fusing to him more thoroughly. After reading too many Iron Man comics, I picture something like his Bleeding Edge armour. It is basically stored mostly in his body, and he can augment it with extra technology. This would probably be a win scenario for Maddie because this puts Danny even further into Halfa territory. This also makes things more tragic with Val. Because not only has Maddie betrayed Danny to experiment on him, but because it means Val failed to stop this happening to someone she cares about. Also, this opens up a new opportunity for one of the Clones: one who is now a more pronounced cyborg made with a prototype of the suit Maddie gave to Danny, maybe he looks like the Terminator or something. For extra irony, he's the nicest one and likes gardening or something. I know this can be taken further, but I'm not able to focus on it more due to exhaustion.

Wes just cannot catch a break in ANY universe (the concept of Walter Weston working for Vlad has been a Thing so we can keep that around here since Vlad works at Axion and that can be the connection, maybe Walter is just the paperwork guy or the company's legal attorney)

I also had a suggestion from @burns-art-account that Valerie gets her own version of a Wes, but like since the name Wes initially came from a joke about Sam's name being misread upside down, we could do the same with one of Val's friends, like Star could be Jets or Jeqs, or something like that

although I think this person would be less open and vocal about Valerie since her popularity would make it impossible to point a finger at without being laughed at by the whole school (I mean just look at Wes, his target is just some nerdy kid and he's still a laughingstock), so this character could be a little more subtle in trying to get evidence to out Val, it would make a pretty funny running gag if every time she got a chance to photograph Val transforming or capture some kind of evidence, something always gets in the way at the last moment, like a bird flying in front of the camera or something

2. I want to keep Danny getting the suit from Technus because I'd want this universe's version of that episode to still happen because it was a great episode between these two and it could still work with the switch around

but Maddie really would have to change course with her portal plan because this whole thing could actually make that more difficult for Maddie, all of her calculations weren't made with a highly ecto-contaminated person in mind, this would mean she would have to readjust the portal's design between Danny and the rest of her family, or actually just throw that plan away in favour of working with this new angle

she could realise that her kids HAVE picked up some traits from her because yeah a normal human shouldn't be able to do that to ghost tech

the idea that Maddie does add to his arsenal is good, once she figures out that any tech he uses gets absorbed into his suit she starts making more weaponry that's super compatible with him, possibly even making stuff that will purposely contaminate him further to bring him closer to being like a halfa (this would be a pretty huge step in Maddie's villain development because now she's resorted to experimenting on her own son, she's losing sight of why she's doing all this in the first place) it would be really cool to see Maddie gradually losing her maternal motherly nature to the cold calculating scientist

like her warmth used to feel at least somewhat genuine deep down but now it just feels like a part she's playing, slimy and sinister, she was always manipulative but she had a real genuine care for her family underneath, she thought she was doing the right thing, but that love and care is slipping away into just doing whatever it takes to get what she wants, to complete her experiment

also I was thinking about the cloning ep being set kinda earlier in this universe, so that would have happened pre-upgrade, but the idea of there being a cyborg clone made later is super cool, and then we could get a clone centric episode where the other clones try to convince this newer more dangerous clone to join their family, and yes him becoming the sweetest, nicest clone is *mwah* perfection

that ep could pave the way and maybe even foreshadow Maddie's eventual experimentations on Danny himself

and the repercussions on Val oooooof, she would feel so guilty, she would feel so much like she let him down and she couldn't save him from becoming something he never wanted to be and now it's getting to a point where it'll be too late for him to get back to normal

and since we've established in a previous post that Vlad knows about Danny, he could even play as Danny's one guiding light, warning him that if he keeps doing this he won't be able to turn back, and his interactions with Danny could give us some insight to what's going on in Danny's head, he's trying so hard to point Danny away from all this while his own mother is more subtly encouraging him and pushing him in the other direction, like a shoulder angel/shoulder devil kinda thing

like i said the day i made that post, i personally don't think you'd have a snowgrave-equivalent if berdly joined kris instead of noelle. like, sure, it's technically possible? he operates on a false ego, so suppose you broke that down and took advantage of his insecurities - as the omniscient player figure. kris would not know these things about him at that point in time, so you'd also have to consider wrestling with their will and growing autonomy. + even if you got everything to the boiling point, i think trying to force him to hurt noelle would instantly backfire. by this theoretical point, he would understand that he has the potential to be deadly, in contrast to the fight in the alleyway on a neutral/pacifist route where he just doesn't know his own strength and abilities, so he can accidentally hurt noelle if you suck at dodging like i do. i genuinely think he'd turn on [you] in this situation.

that's just my two cents. anyway.

berdly is kind of, surprisingly, reminiscent of susie in chapter 1. he has a lot of emotional walls up and behaves in accordance to the assumptions and expectations of the people around him. it's a very self-isolating kind of behavior. both of them act out in ways that result in like pretty much no one wanting to talk to them except noelle because she's an absolute Doll but... it's predictable. it keeps them in control. a lot of the time it's easier to not even try to make any friends.

so for that reason and also because of his false ego and all his other issues, i don't think you'd get to command his actions. which is another contributing factor to the no snowgrave-equivalency. if you try to get kris to include him in an ACT, he'd ignore them and do his own thing. similarly to susie, i think you would have to warn enemies about his attacks. the kid's weirdly strong and he doesn't seem aware of this - he can shatter the SOUL, versus susie and lancer who can kick your ass for infinity and never actually shatter it.

for a callback to the way it's really easy to fuck up a snowgrave route and set the game back to neutral, and also because i just think it makes sense, keeping berdly on your team would be very difficult, and you would have to go through a very specific sequence of steps. ask him to do an ACT he finds embarrassing too early on? he leaves. solve a puzzle too quickly before he can contribute? he leaves. mess around with his equipment in a way he doesn't like? he leaves! and kris is back to a solo act - or maybe they stumble across noelle again and she joins them like normal.

the point of a berdly-route would be to bond with him and get him to trust and appreciate kris. encourage him to let down his walls slowly and naturally, and maybe just, let himself be a kid instead of trying so damn hard to be... whatever it is he thinks he's being. if you try to rush the process he Will just leave - due to like, stress and discomfort and/or because he is a little bit of a prick <3

you'd need to backtrack to the trash heap, because this is going to take time and just immediately progressing will result in him leaving early. i'd have to think about specific interactions and events that progress the route and that could get very, very lengthy... maybe it'll be a fic teehee. we'll see ;) but the basic idea is he'll gradually become more of an actual teammate and you'll first get limited access to his commands and he'll like... do what you say but to the left. "Kris, that's silly. Watch me do this instead." by this point the warning feature will be mostly irrelevant. he'll start opening up and being honest about himself and his feelings on his own terms, rather than being (unintentionally) backed into a corner the way he is in canon and going "AUGH FINE here's my whole deal!!!!!!!! [backstory] happy now!?" and he'll eventually relax and will listen fully and treat kris as not just an equal, but a friend

noelle also joins at some point because! i just got sad thinking about her wandering alone in cyber city. idk when. shortly after berdly joins the party For Real, i guess. fun gang...2! i think that's about all i have to talk about without sitting and creating a full outline for the possible fic i am currently rotating in my brain :)
