Pandas devour ice cake to celebrate 50 years at National Zoo
Pandas devour ice cake to celebrate 50 years at National Zoo
Good News Notes: “The “cake” was made from frozen fruit juice, sweet potatoes, carrots and sugar cane and it lasted about 15 minutes once giant panda mama Mei Xiang and her cub Xiao Qi Ji got hold of it. The National Zoo’s most famous tenants had an enthusiastic breakfast Saturday in front of adoring crowds as the zoo celebrated 50 years of its iconic panda exchange agreement with the Chinese…

Ao no Flag (SERIES FINALE SPOILERS!!)
Seriously, don’t read this if you are planning to read Ao no Flag. That being said, go read the manga now!!
Finally finished reading Ao no Flag and I have so many feelings. Non-coherent, rambly, messy feelings. I was looking at reactions online and what mainly boggles me about the reactions to the final 2 chapters is people being “how is Taichi suddenly gay??” My friend living on this big planet he never was (he’s bi). He most likely just realized it later in life. Did the events of his 3rd HS year help him figure it out? Heck yes. Is he suddenly bi? No.
Not all queer people pop out into this world and instantly know they are queer. Heck, it took me 23 years to figure that out. It’s not like Taichi instantly realized he likes Touma and started dating him. He knew Touma mattered to him somehow, but it took him multiple years to realize how, as evident by him maybe starting his relationship with Touma after 5 years when Touma contacted them all. He gained life experience and grew.
People go through a lot of learning, unlearning and growing. Especially if you are outside of societal expectations and norms. Taichi grew up learning to and wanting to blend in with society. “Be normal, don’t stand out too much”. Add to that low self-confidence and you feel stuck. Feel like there is only black and white. only one right answer to life. It can be very difficult to look out of this dark box, trust me, I had a tough time and sometimes still do. But it feels like Taichi thought and thought and pondered even back in high school and came to the decisions that he did.
And isn’t that what the series is about? growing as a person, making mistakes, learning, allowing yourself to be visible and vulnerable, and eventually, making choices, even if they don’t make sense to anyone else, and continuing to do so?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two pages really hit me hard and I was wondering why. And then it hit me. This is possibly the happiest I’ve seen Taichi be since his childhood. Like genuinely happy. He’s reached max happiness points and is sharing those with Touma. He’s made his choices, and he’s happy. You can and are allowed to choose what or who makes you happy.
That’s all that matters.
#ao no flag#blue flag#blue flag manga#toumatai#is there a point tagging it as spoilers? might as well#ao no flag spoilers#blue flag spoilers#he ending and series in general does have it's flaws but it has become a near and dear one to me#anyways isn’t it amazing how different people have different perspectives and that how you have lived your life changes those#Taichi be gazing at Touma for multiple panels and people be like aww friendship :“)#the way the omamori was want jerked him out of his rage? heck the way he treasured it? their whole conversation on the beach#HE WAS GENUINELY CONSIDERING TOUMA'S FEELINGS FOR HIM!?! NO STRAIGHT GUY WILL EVER PONDER THAT MUCH#i'm alright#also all the hand holing symbolism which im sure other people have talked about better#which also raises the point: let kids express themselves freely without putting gender roles on them#god the hand hold rejection from Touma as a kid was a gut punch#last thing#KAITO HOW DARE YOU NOT SHOW US GROWN UP TOMA AND TAICHI TOGETHER#I WANT TO HAVE A CIVIL CONVERSATION WITH YOU#ok that was long thanks for reading if you have?? <3#my feeling for this series are immense#oh have i mentioned its from JUMP!? of all the publications???#granted jump plus gives the creators a lot more freedom but still?? a bi protag?? with a gay main charecter along with multiple queer#confirmed or coded characters?#dint think it could be real#kurosaki rambles#PS i want Ao flag to get a boom in popularity again so that we can get an anime adaptation#if done well and respectfully it will have so much potential#if done well and respectfully it can have so much potential

Does anyone else think it’s fascinating how nicknames develop? Like sometimes a nickname is a logical shortening of a name, sometimes it’s a different part of their name, like a last name or a middle name, and sometimes it’s completely random, manifesting out of a series of twisting inside jokes and memories that is impossible to explain and you’re just like, “Oh yeah, that’s our friend, The Ball, don’t mind him.”

I am really intrigued by the idea of lungs as symbol of love in Disco Elysium.
It makes you wonder if smoking is viewed as something much more intimate, since you inhale the smoke into your organ of love? Is there something suggestive and personal about breathing someone else's smoke?
Even if there is no deeper in universe significance of smoking, on the meta level of the game a cigarette smoking can be still seen as indication of attraction or even deeper emotional connection. Because you *can* make a case around how cigarettes and smoking are connected to all the flirting and romantic leaning relationship Harry can encounter in the game.
As you know Harry can attempt to make (overall unsuccessful) advances towards several characters. But there are only two characters who flirt with him and are amused by Harry's attempts to be charming - Klaasje and Smoker on the Balcony.
When we first meet Klaasje her cigarette is one of the things thought cabinet will draw attention to and even later during interrogation Harry keeps noticing her cigarette. Smoker on the Balcony does not probably need much explanation as since we never learn his name he is defined by the cigarette he's smoking when we first meet him.
Then there is Dora Ingerlund. We only ever learn a pieces about her relationship with Harry yet one of those thing, the thing that Dora makes point to mention is that Harry was smoking cigarette when she taken interest in him. And her idealised version of Harry that does no longer exist is linked to him smoking.
And last one there is of course Kim Kitsuragi. Especially in context of Dora's confession of taking interest in Harry after seeing him smoking cigarette and looking cool, it feels like it almost cannot be a coincidence that Harry's thoughts upon seeing Kim smoke for the first are about how damn cool he is.
Kim's habit of only allowing himself a one cigarette a day is also interesting in this context because it mirrors his restrain and wariness towards letting people get close to him in general. Only after spending day after day (evening cigarette after evening cigarette) with Harry, he can slowly builds up a friendship with him.
And I'm probably trying to draw conclusion between just random character and story choices. But maybe you can chose to see there connection between lungs being symbol of love in this game and smoking being connected of attraction or love in Harry's life.

Dramatising the qsmp is one of my favourite things to do so, festa junina maxo & forever wedding
It is honestly very much the plot of a soap opera, to marry someone you don't love in hopes that the person you do love will stop you. Marrying someone that does truly love you because you love someone else
And I'd imagine if this was a drama show, Maxo and Forever would have already been established as a couple, maybe they got together because Forever wanted Phil. Maxo having lost his son and his late husband (Dan) it would make it hit that much harder.
Forever proposing to Max after seeing Phil with Missa again after months of absence. Forever proposing because in his mind, Phil needs to see that he's serious about Maxo before he realises his feelings.
When it comes time for an objection, Forever looks at Phil, desperately hoping for him to speak. But he's not even listening, he's showing Chayanne something on his phone. He doesn't care.
Maybe at the wedding, when it comes time to throw the bouquet, Phil catches it. Forever watches Phil give it to Tallulah with a laugh, he's not getting married anytime soon, thank you. It's a silly tradition, it means nothing but it still serves as a bitter reminder that his affection will not be returned.
And when Phil catches Forever alone, upset on his own wedding night, he says it again. He's glad Forever found Max, he's glad his flirting will stop because he could never love him back. It hurts.
But Phil doesn't know that. Phil still fixes his hair for him, slips the yellow rose from his pocket into the braid and smiles at him when Fit calls him over for a dance.
It's then, at his wedding, that he realises how lovable Phil really is. How much he really, really doesn't want to be married to Maxo. He wanted Brunim.
He wants Phil.
Phil doesn't want him back.
When Maxo inevitably notices something is wrong, Forever can't say anything. He can't do anything. He's dug this grave and now, he must lay in it, but just because he has to doesn't mean it's any less scary. How could he tell Max? How could he ever explain this? He won't. He can't.
His plan has failed and now, he's stuck married to a man he never loved.

Having thoughts about Blue Eye Samurai and desire, like this whole entire show is about wanting. Desire is presented as a means of self-awareness and self-knowledge. Who you are is someone who wants, and turning away from your secret lusts is an act of self-deception. It's turning away from your *self* and therefore putting you at war with yourself.
But we also see desire as a tool. Your desires wielded against you, your desires the means by which others can access and gain power, your wanting opening you up to be used by the object of your want. Knowing your desires means someone knows you in ways they can use, if your desires are overpowering enough to make you so singularly focused on them.
And yet muddled desires or misdirected wanting opens one up to aimlessness, to time and effort wasted, to being a piece in the game rather than a player.
Desire is a clarifying, motivating purpose. Recognizing your true desire gives you direction and momentum and moves you from passive reactivity to action, to agency. Singular, overwhelming, crystalline desire for revenge powers Mizu through every challenge. It is the source of Mizu's strength and when it is known it is what allows Mizu's enemies to set traps, to counterplan, to escape when otherwise they'd be caught.
Feel desire. Feel it strongly and deeply and powerfully and with overwhelming force. Feel your desire in every step and breath and moment, until it's all you are, and never show it until you absolutely have to, until you can't hold it back anymore and it explodes out of you.
This show is insane.

OC Questions On Friendship and Companionship.
Tumblr media
The practice of exchanging bracelets as a sign of friendship began in China between 481 and 221 BCE. Originally these were in the form of knotted cords, as there was a belief that when the knot wore through then a wish would come true. Whether the colours of these bracelets ever held any particular symbolism, or if that is a more recent invention, is open to debate, but in recent years bracelets have certainly been exchanged with colours intended to express particular aspects of a friendship through symbolism.
Rose Gold: Harmony.
Does your OC tend to be the peacemaker or mediator amongst their friends? If so, then what makes them suited for this role? If not then is there another person they rely upon to resolve disputes between them and their companions?
Are there actions or statements which your OC would find insupportable, no matter how close the friend who committed or expressed them?
Is your OC particularly kind to their friends? Do they easily forgive their faults and failings? Or do they consistently hold others to exacting standards, no matter how closely they may be connected?
Which of your OC's friends is the most different from them? How did they become friends? Was this a friendship they fell into easily? Or one only forged through grudging respect or shared experiences?
Is your OC generally easy to get along with? Are they affable and relaxed? Or do they have qualities which make it harder for others to befriend them - or even those which actively push others away?
Coral: Good Fortune.
Does your OC rejoice in the successes of their friends? Or do they sometimes feel envious or insecure when those around them achieve great things or win the plaudits of others?
If your OC was extremely fortunate in something - perhaps winning a large sum of money or avoiding a seemingly inevitable fate - then who would be the first person with whom they would share the news? If they would share it at all?
Does your OC believe in luck or fate? Do their friends or companions view things the same way? Does this ever lead to debates or even arguments?
Which of your OC's friends do they feel the most lucky to have met? What difference has that person made to their life?
Does your OC believe that they bring good or bad fortune to others? Have they ever worried that bad news and traumatic events follow them wherever they go and felt bad for others who are caught up in their wake? Conversely, do they see themselves as being particularly lucky or leading an especially charmed life? If so then do they see this as rubbing off on those around them in a positive fashion?
Black: Energy.
Is your OC the energetic one amongst their friends or companions? Are they always the first to suggest an adventure or trip somewhere?
If your OC's friends were to describe the "energy" they bring to their relationships with others, what word would they use? Healing? Inspirational? Calming? Positivity? Or something else? Perhaps something more ambivalent?
When your OC is feeling down or defeated, what is the best approach their friends can take? Concern and sympathy? Tough love? Humour and encouragement? Motivational lectures? Or another tactic entirely?
Is your OC the kind of friend who others leave feeling refreshed and energised after having spent time with them? Or are they something of an energy vampire? Sucking the spirit and enthusiasm from those around them?
Does your OC ever feel the need to retreat from others to recharge their emotional batteries? Are they something of an introvert who enjoys spending time alone? Or are they more extroverted and someone who needs to be with other people to energise themselves? Or does this vary depending upon circumstances? Or even the people in question?
Blue: Courage.
Is your OC one to lead from the front? Or are they more the follower in their group of friends or companions?
Does your OC have the courage of their convictions? Or are they apt to change their views based upon the opinions of those around them? Would they have the confidence to tell a friend they disagreed with them about something? Even (or especially) something of crucial importance?
Does your OC make their friends feel braver through their own example? Are they particularly good at suffering setbacks or adversity without complaint? Or do they tend to shrink from such things? Perhaps they need encouragement from those around them to face their fears?
What would your OC risk for their closest friend? Would they be willing to put themselves in mortal danger? To risk their social standing or reputation?
What is an example of a time your OC had to overcome a fear or insecurity for the sake of a friend or ally? Did the person concerned know what they had needed to surmount? Was it appreciated, if not at the time, then in retrospect?
Green: Truth.
How honest is your OC with their friends? Do their friends see them as inscrutable and difficult to get to know? Or as an open book - someone with their heart on their sleeve perhaps? Is the assessment of your OC's friends or companions completely accurate in this regard?
Does your OC ever tell their friends "white lies" to spare their feelings? Perhaps about their appearance or personality? If so, what was a recent example of this? If not, then how do their friends find this unflinching honesty?
Does your OC have any secrets that they fear their friends discovering? Is there something in their past they wish to conceal? Or shameful feelings in the most secret depths of their heart which they fear would horrify those closest to them? What do they think would happen were those secrets to be revealed?
Does your OC believe that honest communication is essential in order to have trust in a friend or ally? Have they ever been betrayed or let down in this regard? Did that relationship ever recover?
What is the most difficult thing your OC has ever had to tell a friend or companion? How long did it take them to broach the subject? What was that person's response?
Silver: Strength.
What quality has forged the strongest bonds of friendship for your OC? Shared values or beliefs? Time spent together working towards a common aim? Complimentary skills or personalities? Or perhaps just absolutely hating the same things?
Is your OC someone that their friends or companions can rely upon in times of difficulty? Are they a pillar of strength for others? Or do they depend upon others to meet their emotional needs, but find themselves unable to reciprocate in turn?
What has been the greatest test of their friendship with a close companion or ally? Did the relationship survive this? If so, then what helped in repairing that connection? If not, then did they let the friendship go without regret?
How strong are the bonds of friendship for your OC? Do their platonic relationships always rank lower in importance than their romantic partnerships or their family loyalties? Or do they have a friend with whom they have forged a bond deeper than blood or romance could ever equal?
Does your OC draw strength from the thought of their friends? Do they sometimes push themselves onwards for the sake of their companions - or in memory of the sacrifices of others - when they would otherwise give up and accept failure? Or do they see themselves as uniquely capable or responsible, regardless of what others may or may not have done?
