Back in Red Action thoughts

Hmm I like that while not labeled there is no ignoring, yep its a date with romantic overtones and everything with two gals.

The Hue Troop were loving homage to Megaman (31xx, the arm canons) Power Rangers/SuperSentai and so on.  All ladies and while broad distinct personalities.  With some classic Ninja High School/80s-90s anime fanart creations like the long black hair with ribbon, shadow boards, and loved the names.

Smoke explosion.  Though did want to see them transform into one robot.

Also like how Enid has to deal with even her idol feeling self conscious and having a front.

Which, honestly avoids the issues I had with a possible presentation of Pearl’s dynamic with Rose Quartz (and popularly perceived with Bubblegum with Marceline).  Its a relationship first with the same levels of portrayal and awkwardness even if I *really wish* a little more explicit at points, however MINOR.  Then again with the personalities and their particular persona’s involved makes sense they don’t.

I liked that the nautical theme kept up, that Red had to put aside her bullshit- and HAD bullshit to put aside- to win Enid over.  This does NOTHING to invalidate Enid liking girls but if she liked girls who show the same issues in guys she keeps deriding ... Just yes she likes girls but that doesn’t mean lesbianism is a virtue and solves everything.  She’s got an attraction but they still have their issues. And issues that attraction aids in working over.

TBF, we’ve smashed and buried Rad x Enid buuut, well love triangles keep happening for a damned reason.  But It would be interesting to see how he reacts to Enid’s new paramour.  Jealousy, teasing, insecurity about her or himself (he hasn’t moved on as much and STILL has issues with friends and so on), wingman or something to just talk about.

I doubt this is the only ep with superminimal KO but I really noted his absence.  Compare this Enid expansion to eps expanding Rad (or Gar or Carol)  Same basic set up.  He’s an observer and framing device to note the world and situation, the real star of the show (AND THAT IS OKAY!!!!!) but compared to Glory days ... its not a BAD thing just a thing noted.

To compliment something the show inherited/does similar to Steven Universe is that the presentation of the heterosexual and homosexual romance as equal.  We don’t show emotional or body language intimacy or hijinks more of one than the other.  Red and Enid have family, just like Rad. They have awkwardness weirdness, bullshit.  They shuffle, blush, fall on each other and get dazzle vision.

It seems in the year 21xx everyone is a powerlevelsexual or at least there is binormativity (not complaining!) ...no that feels a little disingenious Rad seems into girls, though SOME of that might be his deliberate macho persona, Enid dated Rad (while bonding with Elodie) but given comments and attitudes seems to prefer ladies, maybe.

But back to the Nautical theme it justified how in a world with a super advanced tech she had such a .. well not advanced/pragmatic prothese.  She was the idiot red (maybe once leader red) on a nautical themed team.  I wonder if the future is flooded as well as female.  I am sure recognized Green’s voice as The Regess from Macross.

Its not quite Uuu but I think the kitschy everything setting and nutbarness of stuff is used well to good effect.  The characters are expanded in pace with the setting.  Some stuff is set up (Gazerbeam is Dr. Venomous post GoingTurbo/TKOing himself and thus likely KO’s dad, dark power in KO and all of that) but it feels not Mystery Boxed

We can figure this out and the joy is seeing it play out and people respond to this stuff.  And even throwoff filler eps, like with the Labrynths and the mimics, have helped set up the ideas for the world.

Its not that deep but not trying to be other than see, believe, and enjoy these characters and appreciate their diverse presentation and setup.

Well fine by me.  Even if things STAY “slice of life” that’s fine if the slice is “awesome bodega clerks vs. Walmart supervillain in the form of Alvo Wile-botnik Mallard” and we can play with that setup with back and forth and expansions like happen on sitcoms and so on.

Thank you! It always depends on personal preference, but I would start with a cheap one first to get used to working with one. Even the cheaper kanna usually have a fairly good steel. For setting up a hands on teaching session is best, but user Sumokun on youtube has some good videos on setting up kanna.
