Steven Earl Gaines

(September 14, 1949 - October 20, 1977)

Lead guitarist and songwriter for Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd, joined the band in 1976 after his backing singer sister Cassie recommended him to frontman Ronnie Van Zant, appeared on the live album One More From The Road (1976), wrote “I Know A Little” and “Ain’t No Good Life” and co-wrote two other songs on the band’s Street Survivors LP (1977), died three days after the album’s release in a plane crash along with Cassie, Van Zant and three others on 10/20/1977, age 28.

Joined "Let's Make a Show with Brian and Angel" last night for an impromtu chat about Lynyrd Skynyrd and the fatal October 1977 crash which took the lives of 6 people, band and crew members alike.
