Alex skips the royal wedding, and three years later he and Henry meet as competitors on The Great Celebrity Bake Off. Delicious.

This one took me a couple days to read, and I'm glad I took my time because it's beautiful.

Boyband RPF: The Way You Know Him by Kaelie and Bethann [JC Chasez/Justin Timberlake, M, 191.2k words] This is boyband RPF, but it's so AU that you'll have to squint to recognize the pop stars' personalities. Justin is new to a publishing house, and JC is on the board. I remember when this was first being published, I waited with bated breath every month for The Way You Know Him Day because I loved it so, so much. That has not changed.

Star Trek: Take Refuge in What You Know by CorpusInvictus [James T. Kirk/Spock, E, 120.3k words] Kirk is new to his apartment building and wants to get to know his neighbors. He meets his neighbor, Spock, a loner who suffers from extreme agoraphobia. Kirk thinks he's a beautiful enigma. This one will hurt your heart in the best way. Mind the tags, though.

The Pacific: The History Books Forgot About Us (And The Bible Didn't Mention Us) by callmejude [Mariell "Snafu" Shelton/Eugene Sledge, E, 116.9k words] A canon (history?)-divergent AU in which Eugene and Snafu bond in a different way after one of their squadmates is shot.

Smallville: Family Portrait by tzigane and zaganthi [Clark Kent/Lex Luthor, E, 130.6k words] An AU in which Lex Luthor is orphaned at a young age, and his mother's will stipulates that she wishes for Martha and Jonathan Kent to become his guardians. Slow, slow burn.

“I’m Pierre,” he says, and waits. The boy looks at his outstretched hand and hesitates briefly. Before Pierre can take his hand back, because he is stupid, not everyone wants to shake hands, maman taught him that, the boy may not be Terran, he may be one of those aliens who don’t touch - the boy puts his hand into Pierre’s.

“I’m Charles,” he says, and in a flash there is an electric feeling going through Pierre – nervousnessshamesadnesssadnesssadness - and then the boy - Charles - drops Pierre’s hand and smiles. “Do you want to play?”

He has dimples, Pierre thinks. He has dimples, and he’s really pretty when he smiles, even though his eyes are sad.

“Yes,” he says instead, and Charles nods. “Come on. I’ll take you to the playground.”

He turns and starts walking, and Pierre follows.

Back in the day (2009) I became a big fan of a little Star Trek movie. And despite having dismissed RPF a few years prior as something only delusional people did*, I found myself writing a whole lotta Chris/Karl. It became my niche. I have upwards of 55 works on AO3, which still boggles my mind.

(Turns out that Chris Pine is my Mary Sue.)

For anyone who doesn't know, Podfics are like audiobooks! BUT FANFIC! This is a whole side of fandom often neglected on forums, AO3 etc. Shout out to the series down below to welcome new Podfic'ers. Experienced officers with years in the hobby.

Personally, I love them. I struggle to get through the day-to-day sometimes. Plugging in earbuds and listening to fanfic is very comforting. I'm debating doing podfics to get used to my own voice.
