Sreejesh's heroics in vain as India lose series to Australia
Perth: Veteran goalkeeper P R Sreejesh’s heroics went in vain as India squandered a goal lead to go down 1-2 to Australia in the third men’s hockey Test to hand the home team an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series here on Wednesday.

Indian Hockey Team Secures a Win against Australia 4-3 in the FIH Pro League Match
For the second time, the Hockey team India beat Australia in three days. In the penalty shootout, India on Wednesday for the second leg match was at 2-2 in regulation time. But managed a win at the FIH Pro League in Rourkela. PR Sreejesh, the goalkeeper converted a chance in the shootout for India that won 4-3. The win pushed up the Indian Hockey team a notch up at the Birsa Munda Stadium. It is the fourth win for team India. On Monday, the win helped India get the top position in the standing.
On Sunday, in the first leg match, India beat Australia (the world number 4) with a 5-4 score, while it won the double-legged matches against Germany, the world champions by 3-2 and 6-3. As for the match in question, Sukhjeet Singh scored for India in the 47th minute of regulation time and Vivek Sagar Prasad scored in the 2nd minute. For Australia, Nathan Ephraums twice 37th and in the 52nd minute. In the shootout, Sukhjeet and Dipreet Singh, as well as Harmanpreet Singh scored for India and won the match.
Just in the second minute, team India earned a penalty corner and Captain Harmanpreet attempted a drag-flick. However, it was protected by Johan Durst, the Australian Keeper. However, as fate would have it, Vivek Sagar Prasad, playing his 100th match for the team, picked up the rebound and scored a successful goal from the top of the circle. India kept the momentum going by pushing team Australia to the back foot.
While India had two more opportunities, they could not convert them in the first quarter. Australia had its first goal in the 37th minute with an earlier otherwise no goals in the second quarter. It was Nathan Ephraums, which scored on a penalty stroke. Then ten minutes later, Sukhjeet from India scored a field goal for the team in the 47th minute. In the 52nd minute, an unintended foul resulted in a penalty corner to Australia, and the team executed it well.
The foul occurred by the Indian defender. The stopper, Anand Gupte used the trick of faking a drag-flick and then passed the ball to Tim Howard. It was Tim who then put the ball at the post. Both the teams were now at a 2-2 level at the finale of the regulation time. And then they proceeded to the tense shootout moment. Not only did the talented goalkeeper of India, Sreejesh make some awesome saves.
But he was the man who saved the grace of team Hockey India by saving a crucial referral. He also was the one to win an extra point for the team. In May, team India will continue the FIH Pro League matches as they will travel to Europe and compete with Great Britain, Argentina, Netherlands, and Belgium.

No I did not return in a while .. where I did return was the 🛌 .. just the elements of the 'nidra' overtook me and rather than fade out on the couch, chose to be horizontal ..
The ISPL , as has been promoted and delivered in adverts is well on its way to fructification and all the owners and the members that are involved , were needed to be in immortalised picture frames .. so yes , a photo cum meet shoot .. a very quick in and out between the evening hours .. with our friends and colleagues .. such a joy ..
Akshay one of the owners .. and an explanation to him about the surgery on my hand ..
Hrithik had done his shoot and had just left, to another engagement and we here were getting ready for ours, with yet another favourite, from the South - Suriya .. aah such a delight to have met him again .. and my extreme pleasure of sharing with him how greatly I admired that film song of his, on the film about Father and Son ..
Its a moment we shared on KBC, when we were having the Olympic Hockey Goalie on the 'garam kursi' .. PR Sreejesh .. and the winning moment when he saved the goal and won the medal, the KBC edit cut back to his Father, watching the game at home, simply exulted with the success .. and the song from Suriya's film .. AAHHHHHH .. played it a 100 times over and over again .. such an emotional moment .. and Suriya .. what an expression during that scene .. ufff .. can never get over it ..
The emotion of the real Father and Son relation and the moment in the game was simply incredible ..
PR Sreejesh as a kid had wanted to play Hockey, but because of his condition of lesser means never had a hockey stick .. he asked his Father to get him one .. but his Father could not buy even a hockey stick, because of their financial issues - did not have the money to buy it ..
So .. on Sreejesh 's insistence and wanting to give the Son what he wanted, his Father sold the only asset the family possessed - their cow .. the cow is considered a most sacred possession in most Hindu homes .. but the Father sold it to buy a hockey stick for his Son .. and his Son proves to all the World, what he was able to achieve, an Olympic medal .. and what a moment for his Father .. and that background song plays .. goodness .. tears in the eyes .. and a quivering heart .. !!
So Suriya .. before me and I narrate what I went through during that KBC moment .. and Akshay listening on .. and now disclosing to me that he is doing the remake in Hindi of that film ..
.. and the shoot for the pictures concludes with some fun and games
a few solo too ..
and the fun at another .. playing catch ..
Done .. home , dinner and 😴 .. with pleasant achievement of the Son , Abhishek , who's Kabaddi team wins an important and very tough game in Jaipur, against an opponent that had never lost so far in the tournament .. 🕺🕺🕺
and the laughter of success, but at the music Studio ..
And now to face the world again for another day

Pele a Brazilian football player was at his time the most famous and possibly the best-paid athlete in the world. India defeated South Africa 5-2 to place ninth at the 2023 Men's FIH Hockey World Cup
On Saturday, at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, the Indian hockey team ended its run in the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup 2023 with a 5-2 victory over South Africa.
With the victory, India moved up to the ninth place and South Africa to eleventh for the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup 2023. After losing to New Zealand in the quarterfinal crossovers, India won their prior classification encounter against Japan by a score of 8-0.
Abhishek, an Indian forward and the game's most valuable player scored the game's first goal in the fifth minute. Against South Africa, he was so dominant that the match's MVP award went to him.
South Africa's Samkelo Mvimbi (in the 49th minute) and Mustaphaa Cassiem (in the 60th minute) outscored India's Harmanpreet Singh (12 minutes), Shamsher Singh (in the 45th minute), Akashdeep Singh (in the 49th minute), and Sukhjeet Singh (in the 59th minute).
Abhishek and Harmanpreet Singh scored for India in the first quarter, which their team dominated. While South Africa had just as many opportunities as the rest of the team, they were still trying to convert them.
After a scoreless second quarter, South Africa started the third with two penalty corners. But India's Krishan Bahadur Pathak kept the Africans at bay.
After a field goal from Shamsher Singh in the last seconds of the third quarter, India regained the upper hand and extended its advantage to three points.
India's seasoned attacker Akashdeep Singh scored the game-winning goal four minutes into the final quarter. Samkelo Mvimbi quickly got South Africa on the board with a long-range effort that found the back of the net.
Sukhjeet Singh scored on a rebound from Akashdeep Singh in the 86th minute to give India a four-goal lead again. When trying to block South African captain Dayaan Cassiem from a one-on-one position, PR Sreejesh, who had replaced Krishan Bahadur Pathak in the alternative quarters, gave up a penalty stroke. Mustaphaa Cassiem scored the game-winning goal for South Africa in the 92nd minute.
India competed and finished second to England in Pool D at the 2023 Hockey World Cup. India fell to New Zealand in the crossover match via penalty shootout after the score was tied 3-3 after regulation. In the third stanza, India held a commanding 3-1 lead.
Group stage winners of the 2018 FIH Hockey Men's World Cup, led by Manpreet Singh's India team despite including eventual tournament winners Belgium. Despite having a 1-0 lead at one point in the quarterfinals against the Netherlands, they were eliminated.
