An aside about the language on TV Tropes: squick is a Very Good Fandom Term that needs to move back into everyday use. For those of you who use "uncomfy", "squick" means pretty much the same thing, but with a layer of "I don't like it, but that's my issue, not anyone else'".

"Squick". Learn it. Use it. It's a useful shorthand, and doesn't have any layers of moral judgement about fiction!

So... I listened to the Delta Flyers podcast with Garret Wang and Robert McNeill and remember that part where Seven and the other borgs in her unimatrix crashed on a planet? And they had to survive for a few days?

And they were around a fire eating 'bio matter', I always assumed it was some animal they caught and it probably WAS some animal they caught but Garret Wang said he dug up the script for Survival Instinct and, originally according to the script, uh, it wasn't a random animal they were cooking and eating.

It was the dead Borg they were stripping for parts earlier. Uh.

I'm really glad I knew this after I watched the episode.

So... Technically.

Seven and other Borg did cannibalism before.

No wonder in the season finale of Picard Seven and the other ex-Borgs were eager to get replicators back online.

This is a secret only other ex-Borgs know.

If Seven of Nine stumbled into the adult storyline of Yellowjackets, she'd fit in.

Squick-worthy things to do with skin

(tw: idk how to tw for prompt lists besides just re-stating the list but there's a lot of skin ripping, twisting, burning, and subdermal things, so I wanted to mention it)

Sandpaper. Rub.

Peel it back a little bit at a time. See how big of pieces you can get.

Cheese grater. Get some longggg strips. Like noodles.

Rub ground glass into it.

Put out cigarettes in open cuts.

Shove a prong under it.

Toothpicks. Let the splinters catch on flesh as they shove under, parallel to the surface.

Burn it until it melts and warps and drips away.

Superglue it to other parts of the body, a wall, the floor, etc. It’ll tear off.

Inject salt water under it.

Stitch cuts shut after shoving things inside. Razors, broken glass, screws, etc.

Melt hot tar onto it and rip it away. See how much skin comes up with it.

Carve the face away from the skull. Tan the skin into a mask.

De-gloving.

Tattoo gun. Acid. Make the scar pretty.

Liquid nitrogen burns.

Add suspension piercings. (Hook slipping under the skin of the back and whumpee hanging by that alone)

Piers. Pinch tight and twist until that spot rips away.

Thread a sharp wire under the skin and send electricity through it. (this one courtesy of wormwriting)

Carving whumpee’s tattoos out to make them ‘perfect’ again.

Cut parallel stripes, filet them away from the flesh underneath (still attached on both sides), then crochet it into a pretty braid straight up like it’s an early 2000’s ripped tshirt.

I'm also not a fan of pregnancy or fics about raising kids. I don't have that kid-raising instinct.

Non-con isn't completely a no-go but I strongly prefer dubcon type scenarios.

Pedophilia and parental incest are no-gos.

Excessive bodily fluids particularly in smut are nah, particularly scat.

Hyper specific, but a lot of stories about hypnosis either involve "you're a dumb bimbo slut" or "I'm a big strong man making you into a tradwife" and both are squick to me personally. It's a bit of a fine line because "hypnotized into a mindless doll or maid" is okay! I think it's the strict, conservative gender role enforcement that creeps me out.

For romance and smut, I usually read and write queer material. Straight stuff definitely isn't a no-go by any means but I tend to bounce easier because it's not my cup of tea.

Bigotry, homophobia, transphobia that are endorsed by the narrative will probably cause me to check out.

I'm pretty open minded about what I read (when I have time), I think. I don't like to put something down just because it makes me uncomfortable if it's otherwise interesting.

So like, it's nutritious because it's designed to nourish an embryo once it implants in the uterine lining - here, have some scientific descriptions. I do not think it would be especially nutritious to an adult human, especially as our stomachs don't love digesting blood. Is there any whump that makes you feel uncomfortable to watch? For me, it's women, caretakers, and characters who look too similar to people I know IRL getting hurt. I actually have to fast forward or turn away during scenes like that.

If we’re talking just plain discomfort and not triggers, I don’t like watching characters fish through gunshot wounds to find the bullet. Not only is it a bad idea medically, it just makes me squirm for some reason. I’m okay with it in written form, I just don’t like to watch it. I also have carpophobia so nine times out of ten whump involving the wrists is off the table.
