Replacing Shame with Compassion MECFS
It feels so good to start feeling better after the MECFS crash! There are so many ways I understand myself and life that I didn’t before. First of all, I am shocked at my denial. Then again, I’m not. You would think I would be more aware of myself having worked as a therapist most of my life. Especially working as a chemical dependency counselor, you would think I would be the master of detecting denial. I saw it in others but could not see it in myself. I was getting “sick.”
When I was working as a counselor in a Federal prison, I used to ask my clients, “Who had the right to be angry in your family?” It really helped clients to look deeper into their family patterns. It never occurred to me to ask “Who had the right to be ill in your home?”
Bingo!  That was my mom. My compassion for my mom is exponential now. When I was younger, I was judgmental of her. She had health issues starting at age 32 which continued throughout her life until she died at age 52; her body full of cancer. 
The perfectionist, overachiever, know-it-all part of me focused on fixing my alcoholic dad, who I adored. Later I transferred this to fixing the world. I was a healer! I could not be sick! I have always thought of myself as being on the front line; what today we would call “an essential worker.” Now I understand. Not only did I need to fix everything and everyone, I also could not be sick. This codependent behavior also included not learning to receive and especially not asking for help.
It’s funny. As I write this I think about the $500 utility bill I have. I could not call to get public help unless everyone else who needed it, got theirs first. Note to self again and anyone else who does this – stop it! You have to fill up in order to give from your excess, and not from your need. I’ll sell my old computer. 
Back to denial. Once I got it, that I was ill and I was not my mom, I started to blame others. Once I got through this, I was free to look at my own behaviors. Without judgment and blame, I inventoried myself (thanks to 12 step programs) and become clear on how the MECFS affects me and how I can take better care of myself. 
As I write, I am watching the latest MECFS videos on Youtube by leaders in the field. (Edit, edit, edit, edit!!!) I am delighted to be one of many and not the problem patient that no one knows what to do with. The shame that I felt for being sick is no longer there. Interesting.  I don’t feel a need to fix people (as much) now, but rather can just sit and listen. In 2006, Dr. Al Morgan, a naturopath drew a circle and divided it like a pie. He pointed and said, this is your part, your responsibility (or something like that) and I just couldn’t hear. I could do it all!
There was a time when friends, acquaintances, etc. would call or email anytime wanting answers to their psychic questions or connect with someone on the other side. I was on call all the time. Today I love my work as a psychic medium and as an author. Being bedridden for 4 months and mostly horizontal for a few years, I am so grateful to schedule clients weekly as I can (dependent upon my brain fog, fatigue, and myalgia.) It’s the delight of my day!
Let me say that again differently. Now that I give out of my excess (as I have taught for many, many years,) when I am with a client or a group, I am so full of love and connected to Spirit. When I connect with client’s loved ones or guides, it is not unusual for me to feel so much I just cry. No pain, just pure love. 
There is so much more to share now that I am honest with myself about my health and have healed the shame.

Intellectual Over-ride!
In the last couple weeks I have noticed several people on television said, “I have to follow my gut,” or “my intuition tells me,” or something similar. Having worked as a counselor, intuitive coach and psychic medium for many years, this delights me.
Whenever I teach classes what happens is that my students (in a safe environment) begin to remember how intuitive they were as children and share with the group. We are all intuitive! What happens is parents who abandoned their own intuition stop their children from talking about their experiences. The child learns to shut it down. If they don’t give up their intuition as a result of their parents, their peers tease them and eventually this natural gift goes dormant.
In session with clients for the last 30 years, over and over again I see the same pattern. A client comes to me leaving a marriage or a relationship.  I ask, “when did you know this was not the right person for you?” The answer sadly is “the day we met” or “the day we married.” This is the same with jobs and buying homes or moving to a new city.

What happened is that their intuition was clear but they did what I call “intellectual over-ride.” They let their ego get involved and didn’t listen to their own truth. They began to doubt themselves.
This is why I wrote the book Live Intuitively: Journal the Wisdom of your Soul. For years I have been creating Soul Stems ™ which are writing prompts to help clients get clear on their own truth. In the book I also teach you to create an image that represents the issue at hand. Then you use a Soul Stem to understand the image. Symbolism is such a powerful tool as I am sure you know from your dreams.

Resolving Conflict

Our current planetary conflict is a great backdrop for me to expound on how to resolve conflict and the pitfalls of communication. With all the floods and fires on our coveted planet and in our politics, I thought this would be a timely topic.
Here are some helpful steps.
Clear with this person on an energetic level.
Ground your energy. Here is a video that will teach you to do this. http://bit.ly/wBHJbh
You have an aura around you which is part of your energetic self. Imagine pulling your aura in around your body. Pull it in about 6 – 8 inches around you.
Focus in your heart and bring your attention out of the top of your head into the heavens.
Image the person there with you. At this level, send them love from your heart. You may also imagine sending them golden white Light from your heart.
If you can do this without anger or negative feelings, talk with them at this level.
Come back down, image yourself filling up with golden white Light and release any leftover energy down your grounding cord.
Steps to resolve conflict in person.
Write out the situation in your journal and then re-read it the next day. Sometimes it helps to do this a few times, so that you can become clear on what happened and what you want to communicate.
  Become aware of your own part of the situation, even if you perceive it to be minor in comparison to the other person.
  If you are angry, look at where you may be feeling hurt or fearful. These emotions are often right under the surface of anger. Feel your feeling and let them go. Journal them over and over if need be.
  Contact the person you are having conflict with and use clear, direct, honest communication. I suggest you meet in person (not via text or email) because this allows you not only to read the body language, but also to open your heart.
  Give the other person the chance to communicate their side completely. It is helpful to use the words, “I heard you say,” and repeat back to them what you heard and let them clarify. This helps them to feel heard. You can hear what someone is saying without agreeing with them. It is important that you hear.
  Once the other person feels heard, share your side. They may not listen well and you may not feel heard. If that is the case use the broken record method. Continue to say the core message again and again, “I hear what you say, and ______.” Yes, that is true, and _______.” Do this until they are able to understand they are not hearing you.
  Make a request of the person such as “My request is we put this behind us and go on from here,” or “My request is that we continue to meet and talk weekly until we can resolve this.” You can use whatever it is that you desire.
  Trust your intuition, and use as many of these steps as you would like. If the person is not willing to meet with you or clear the situation with you, then move on and let it go. No longer allow them into your energy field and set healthy boundaries.
  Sometimes people have a hard time clearing conflict because of negative communication patterns. Often these reactions were learned in early childhood as a survival response to a dysfunctional family. In this case they may triangle in other people to take sides, or become passive aggressive and rather than talking with you directly, they will be passive in their aggression in a subversive manner.

Healing Hands
Richard Gerber shares in his book Vibrational Medicine, “Laying-on-of-hands healing has been practiced throughout the world for thousands of years. In the late 1700s, Franz Mesmer theorized that subtle life energy of a magnetic nature was exchanged between healer and patient during laying-on-of-hands. Mesmer also discovered that water could effectively store this subtle force for transfer to sick patients in need of healing.”
When teaching Reiki healing for many years, I told my students that we all have the ability to heal. Many clients experienced their own ability to feel energy and heal themselves as well as others in this process.
An illustration of this principle involved a client of mine with cancer who was in the hospital preparing for surgery. I asked my students to meet me there and use Reiki to help calm her and assist in the healing process. When the doctors located a blood clot and could not operate, I invited my students, as well as the client’s mother and sister, to assist me in laying hands on the client. After talking with the nurse in charge, I understood the clot needed to dissolve before they could operate. We all imaged this as we did the healing. A period of a half hour or so went by, and when I felt an immediate sense that the healing was complete, I asked the nurse to check again. They did, and the clot was gone. The client was subsequently able to receive the needed surgery, the mother and sister of the patient were able to be helpful, and my students’ confidence in their healing ability increased. It was a glorious day!
We are all connected to the Source, and we all have the ability to channel this love. You can begin by just placing your hands on your loved ones and begin to feel your own ability to heal. You can also practice on your pets. They love it. Well, cats sometimes won’t allow the healing energy unless they are ill, but you can try. Take time in the evening and rub your hands together and place them over your face and just breath. You’ll be amazed!

When “The Secret Doesn’t Work!”
In my niche, there are only a few people I know that have not seen the film The Secret, which came out in 2006.  If you have not seen it, I am sure you’ve seen shows or videos online about manifesting.
“It isn’t working!” exclaim many of my clients! Even when they know what they want to create, when they have clarified every detail, and even created a vision board, they wait and nothing happens. In deeper exploration of this, I realized a problem.

What happens when you get clear on what you want?  Are you excited and you match the energy of others who are successful? And then . . . You begin to doubt! All of the sudden, a voice within raises its ugly head saying, “You can’t do this.” You may think others can do it but not you or that you are doing it wrong. You may think you are not doing it long enough, hard enough, right enough. Then all the questions come up. What are you going to do with . . . What would you do about . . . What will others think? You’ll have to change everything; where you live, how you dress, where you go, your friends. . . it all hits at once.

What do others do who are successful? Well, a couple of things. One is they “do the work” and get underneath the issues that create this fear, increase their self-esteem, find support in groups of people who are similar, or they feel the fear they experience and do it anyway.
One way to do the work is to write out what you hear yourself saying and challenge it! An example from my own life is when I started filming the Reality TV Show for Soul Ltd. My biggest fear was what do I wear? If you are reading this I am offering a free download of my Abundance mp3. You can find it under products and use the coupon code 2015AbundanceGift. Enjoy! My mantra was I would live in my pajamas if I could. I boasted that I defended my dissertation with my adviser and others from the University over the Internet wearing my pajama bottoms. I did dress professional from the waste up!
What I told myself to calm my fears was, “I will be who I am. I love being comfortable and relaxed.” For 95% of the time, I can be in my pajamas or wear comfortable clothing. I can go make-up free and just be! I realized it was only for a small fraction of time I need to prepare for the camera. Only a small percentage of time I needed to be “on!” Once I understood this, I took a deep breath and realized there could be a million reasons I could make up not to take the next step. This was only one excuse. Once I understood that I do have control over my thoughts and actions, I was relieved.

The second way to deal with this fear is to feel it and do it anyway. Now many of us have heard this before, but how do you do it? What I have learned to do when I felt fear is to sit down and close my eyes. I focused on my breath and relaxed myself. Then I brought my attention up out of my crown chakra at the top of my head up into the heavens. From there I looked down at myself and saw that I was “running fear” in my body. It was easy to see from above that my body had some responses that were irrational. I felt compassion for myself and understood it was just a physiological and emotional response. I noticed what I was feeling and allowed myself to witness myself from above. This fear is similar to when someone comes up from behind you and startles you or how you react immediately to a bee landing on you or when you see a spider. This is only a quick reaction. Soon it will pass.
So to recap – When you are creating a goal in your life, or when you are setting an important intention, negative self-talk may appear.
  Write out what you hear yourself saying and challenge it. It is important to write it out because you have more control over your thinking when you write.
  Sit down and close your eyes. Focus on your breath and relax. Bring your attention up out of your crown chakra at the top of your head up into the heavens. Look down at yourself and see yourself. From this distance you see that you are fearful or “running fear” in your body. Send compassion to yourself and allow yourself to be comfortable with the fear. You CAN create in your life what you desire the most!
  You can do it!          
Now you only have to learn to receive!

Healthy Boundaries for Relationship
With the nights getting cooler many are dreaming of leaves transitioning from bright green to yellow and red. You may find yourself pulling in more and beginning to think of nesting. Much of your contact this fall will be time spent with friends on social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You may also connect with friends on Facetime and Skype. Maybe you use your phone and share with friends while you are walking.
As a therapist, I often hear clients say they saw their friend or boyfriend/girlfriend change their status on Facebook from single to being in relationship with . . . They process the response to this very public demonstration of relationship status.
This leads me to think about boundaries. For many years I have created fairly rigid boundaries around myself. Since I am sensitive, this has helped me manage my energy. Being public as a therapist and psychic invites a lot of people into my space.
Recently, I had a visitation from my former husband, Peter Campbell who passed several years ago. He came to me with a powerful message (which I’ll share in another blog) and this opened up my heart. Now, I find myself crying a lot, which has not happened for many years. I find I welcome this opening, but now have to reassess how to shift my boundaries.
I hope this helps in case you want to reassess your boundaries as well. Do you have rigid, collapsed or healthy boundaries? You may want to print this out and talk about it with a friend.

Are you more likely to allow others to cross your boundaries or do you cross others boundaries?
Do you find you get too close to people physically and you see them back away?
Do you find yourself alone in a corner in a group and not reaching out to others?
The way you set your boundaries changes over time and also in different situations and dependent upon how you feel at the time. This is a general guideline you can use.
Collapsed Boundaries can be identified by:
Sharing too much personal information too soon.
Saying yes when you want to say no for fear of rejection.
Doing anything to avoid conflict.
Having a high tolerance for abuse.
Rigid Boundaries can be identified by:
Saying no to a request if it will involve close interaction.
Staying so busy you don’t take time for intimate relationships.
Being unable to identify you own feelings, wants or needs.
Making little self-disclosure and holding people at a distance.
Healthy Boundaries can be identified by:
Having the ability to say yes and to say no.
Being able to hear no from others and seek other resources to get your needs met.
You reveal information about yourself gradually and self-disclose appropriately.
You have relationships with shared responsibility for the relationship without blaming.

Chakra One - Creating and Maintaining Health!
This morning as I was walking Angelo along the river I was listening to Caroline Myss’s Energy Anatomy Audio on my iPhone. She is one of my favorite teachers and I love her work.
As I manage my CFS, in addition to balancing my life, I am also journaling and understanding how I created this illness and how to heal and return to a life of health. I’ll share more about this after I share Caroline’s perspective.

Where does Chronic Fatigue Syndrome come from? Chronic Fatigue is an immune disorder. Your immune system is connected to your First chakra primary, so when you think of an immune disorder I want you to go into your first chakra and think your first chakra connects you to how safe you feel in the physical world, how able you are to protect yourself.
Your first chakra is like your mote around a castle. If you feel safe, if you feel able to handle yourself in a physical situation, your immune system is going to be fairly functional. What weakens your immune system is some version of a first chakra disorder. Either you’re going to feel very vulnerable socially, very vulnerable being able to take care of yourself economically, vulnerable within your family or you will be within another tribe, your work tribe.

  So what happens is they think they can do everything. They think they can be everywhere and they have this image that they are not allowed to rest or run out of energy and what’s really happening is that so much of their energy is going out of their circuits that they are connecting to more people and more projects that they can be energetically connected to.
 And so their immune system begins to weaken, because they simply haven’t gotten enough energy to run their biology. They are financing people with their energy more than they can, or projects. They are too many places simultaneously.
 If you imagine that every person or every thing you are connected to energetically represents a place where you are simultaneously and one day you said, where am I today and you followed your thoughts.  You thought part of me is wishing I was on the east coast, part of me is back in London, part of me is with my boyfriend, part of me is there, part of me is there. Part of me is in my childhood processing how come I didn’t get enough brownies, part of me is wondering have come I don’t have thick gorgeous hair. Part of me is here and part of me is there.
  As humorous as this might sound, I’m telling you, you recognize that you are in as many places as your emotional energy takes you. Do you understand what I am saying? You are financing all of these places.
Remember what the truth of the Seventh Chakra is Be Here Now.
Live in the present moment.

When you find that you are “financing” too many people and projects you’re your energy necessary to run your own energetic system, I hope this will remind you to receive, rest and give yourself permission to just BE!

Grounding to Assist with Anxiety
So often in your busy world you become over-expanded and lose your sense of grounding. Do you feel like you are spinning and can’t seem to relax and be present in the moment?
When I teach a class on grounding I have my students practice by grounding using a beam of light, a waterfall or a tree trunk.  Then I have them pull up their grounding. They do this several times to get a sense of the difference, noticing how they feel in their body. Generally, they are calmer and feel safe.
I also have them practice by filling their grounding cord with jello. Then they walk around the room and feel off center and wobbly. When they return to their seat they release the jello down their grounding cord and use the beam of light,  waterfall or tree trunk again. Noticing the difference is amazing.

Take a few minutes to practice grounding your energy and teaching your body that you are safe.  Too often you experience anxiety because of a lack of grounding. Anxiety is also common when you focus your attention in the future. Grounding in the present is a simple and effective tool to teach your body that you are safe, therefore shifting your anxiety into feeling calm.

I encourage my clients to make small steps and not try to do too many changes at once. The one step I suggest is to learn to ground, center and run your energy to clear others from your energy field. My own practice begins with this 12 minute practice.
