"I don't know what hit us, it was all an orange blur! I don't know if it's just me, but I HATE getting my supply cart knocked over every time this Pokemon passes by, so hunt it down before I tear my hair out!" -Galarian Caravan Merchant Hi patrons and viewers, sorry for the long absence. Between now and the last release, a lot of things have happened (ie my car got crushed by a fallen tree), but I hope this would tide things over before I finish up Registeel. Going forward, I will be giving regional variants the subspecies treatment, so the equipment will pretty much be a palette swap. This is Galarian Zapdos, a regional variant of Zapdos found in Galar. It is one of Galar's legendary birds. Pokemon Galarian Zapdos are very different from regular Zapdos. Instead of thunderous wings, it has a pair of strong legs instead. Its wings has atrophied so much, it can never fly. However, its powerful legs allow it to achieve land speeds of up to 200 km per hour. Its legs also function as a weapon. Its kicks are so strong they can send prey flying or pulverize a small building. They are also quite dexterous, allowing Galarian Zapdos to kick anything in front, the sides and the back of its body. It also sports very good reflexes, allowing it to counter and dodge most attacks aimed at it. Pitfall traps are not very effective, as it is known to be able to escape quickly from it. Its strength however is also its greatest weakness. A well-timed attack to its legs will trip it, causing it to fall and be vulnerable to further attacks. Though after getting up it will instantly fly into rage. Armor Galarian Zapdos armor is pretty much a recolor of Zapdos armor, and favours evasion over electric attacks Weapons Galarian Zapdos weapons favour fast projectile speeds and rapid fire attacks.

The Aspect Trio of Galar is often compared to Kanto's Seasonal Trio, as the three Pokémon of Galarian myth are very similar in appearance to Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres in various paintings and art. However, the artistic appearances of each trio are the only similarities that are shared.
In Galarian folklore, especially in the stories of the Albadosi of the Crown Tundra, the Aspect Trio are often the living embodiments of the human immaterial aspects, as described by the scholar Oswald [See Source 12]. Each also has a specific duty they serve, evidence that these mythical Pokémon used to be either major deities in The original Albadosi tales, or simply the messengers of some greater god [See Source 8]. Their original names thus are lost, so the Aspect Trio will be referred to thusly: Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres.
Galarian Articuno, in Oswald's Tundric Stories, is often described as the keeper and dispenser of great wisdom. Often, it is the guardian of the Trees of Power that dot the Crown Tundra's landscape. But because of the typical trials of the Galarian hero, and Galarian Articuno's role as a guardian, this mythical bird Pokémon is known as a clever trickster. It is especially known for the trick of changing forest paths, often trapping unwary heroes, unlucky adventurers, and their brave Pokémon. Astonishingly, a very similar myth of a Pokémon like Galarian Articuno exists in the Fiore region among the townspeople of Wintown, but no one to this day has found an artistic depiction.
Galarian Zapdos, likewise, is often depicted as a wandering spirit that manifests as a flightless bird that runs at incredible speeds. The ancient Albadosi regarded this Pokémon as a representation of their battling spirit and approver of courageous feats of heart. Seeing it cross the path of a burdgeoning hero is a common motif of Albadosian tales, as a blessing and good omen to their physical endeavors. To confront Galarian Zapdos in battle was regarded as a trial of extremes, for it's kicks were said to shatter mountains. It also, in older stories passed down to the modern inhabitants of the Crown Tundra, is regarded as a spirit of vengeance, often tirelessly searching for those that ran from their fates in cowardice.
Galarian Moltres, however, has probably the most grim of folkloric duties. Most regarded it, with its sharp hooked beak and black, fiery plumage, as a harbinger of death and a warning about waging pointless war. Often, Galarian Moltres would lead the flocks of Corvisquire and Corviknight that would haunt battlefields and pick over the remains of the dead, and would act as the reaper of the souls of the dead, leading them to the afterlife [See Source 11]. Yet, this Pokémon also was the one said to bring peace, and is still invoked against ghosts and other unnatural things that go bump in the night, and more than one popular historical fantasy story set in Galar has used the trope of the Dark-Winged Avenger.
-Part of Sonia Magnolia's doctoral thesis rough draft about the history of the Crown Tundra, circa 3019

Yoy know what would be interesting for casual geographic?
Its when Phoebe was trying her best to make sure her Galar Zapdos wasn't being a speed demon which it always is, and causing trouble.
Like I said, Phoebe had a hard time catching ONE! And even if she did, this Pokemon just does what it wants.
Soni would be inpressed and concerned because Phoebe caught a Zapdos? Wow!
But she just looks like she's having a flashback when asked of how it went down.
Lots and lots of running....
Soni: As you can see folks, this bird is no ordinary pokemon. You are looking at a legendary Pokemon Zapdos!
Its legs can be powerful enough to pulverize a dump truck and can run through mountains iver 180 mph!
Phoebe in the back struggling to catch up holding a bucket of berries: I said its dinner time! You stay in one spot and eat like a good Pokemon!
Soni:... Legendaries are also not willing to listen and having one follow your commands means that they're ina good mood but try not to push your luck.
I feel like certain legendaries won't really listen well to trainers. Actual gods choose if they want to battle!
In Soni's world, all of the Legendaries are usually keeping their distance away from ordinary folk for multiple reasons, so Soni seeing Galarian Zapdos being peaceful enough with Phoebe would make her go, "Huh."
Casual Pokegraphic Soni: "Welcome to a special edition of Casual Pokegraphic where we talk about Galarian Zapdos. So like I've mentioned before, there are regional variants of the same Pokemon. This is one of them, but it's for a legendary Pokemon. Yes, this is a thing. Do not question the weirdness of nature. I feel like I've explained it enough on this account."
Casual Pokegraphic Soni: "Galarian Zapdos can dropkick a dump truck with ease, so do not challenge these things. It is the last thing that you'll ever do in your life. Although if one wants to challenge you, that means you're pretty strong. Still, say your prayers because this Fighting-Flying Pokemon is always going to challenge you after it acknowledges you." Phoebe runs around with a basket of berries: "COME BACK HEREEE-!"
Casual Pokegraphic Soni: "And sometimes that includes running challenges. Although they could just be testing your patience."
Casual Pokegraphic Soni: "Oh, by the way, don't think that just because you caught a Legendary (if you somehow manage to catch it), it'll listen to all your commands. They have a will of their own and if you try and force their hand? Well, good job on getting banished to the Distortion World for all eternity. You'll never find your way home."
Casual Pokegraphic Soni: "TL;DR: Don't force the deities of the world to do your shit for you because they will vibe check you out of existence. Literally.
Casual Pokegraphic Soni: "They're nice enough to hang out with you, not the other way around. Never tempt the hand of Arceus because it will come crashing down with Judgement."

What if the Galarian legendary birds are... convergent?!
So, I made a half-assed post on this earlier, but I'd like to go into more detail Everyone has talked (in detail, I'm definitely not the first to cover how weird they are) about how the Galarian forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres make no sense, especially being called the darn same names, despite their primary typings not even being ice, electric, or fire... only being stretched to fit the bill of ice/electric/fire with: -A cold personality -Thunderous speed and kicks -An aura of raging fire
So perhaps those names make a little sense, given those descriptions, but STILL, that's obviously a big stretch... and they don't make very much sense within lore, even for Pokémon standards. (Of course, that's very much intended to be the case (that they don't make sense) as you'll see) Let's dig into why they are what they are, and sprinkle in some of my own theory.
So, what do we know? Well, right off the bat, the official site for sword and shield says "Legendary Pokémon bearing strong resemblances to Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres have been spotted in the Crown Tundra. These Pokémon seem to bear Ice-type, Electric-type, and Fire-type characteristics, respectively, and so were previously thought to be the same as the Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres seen in other regions. But recently, data gathered from reported sightings and other sources about the Pokémon have bolstered the theory that they are, in fact, distinct variants." So sure, case closed, they're just regional variants that people mistook for being the same Pokemon. thats all. They're just named because they seemed to have similar characteristics... or do they? If you aren't convinced, lets dig deeper. First, take note of "so were previously thought to be the same as the Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres seen in other regions." Next, after you catch each of them, Peony takes a look at them, and notes how they aren't cold, electrifying, or hot in any way. I'll just quote what he says about Moltres.
"So that's Moltres, is it? The Legendary Pokémon that's the embodiment of fire? I definitely see the resemblance, but it's not at all hot to the touch... Kinda looks like it'd be more at home with the punks in Spikemuth than in a volcano, doesn't it? Oh well! Looks a bit like it's burnin' if you don't look too close!"
Their descriptions are just an attempt at justifying the accidental naming of them. "Oh yeah, articuno? uh... it has quite a cold glare and demeanor" sure yeah.
Now that's quite interesting. He says similar things about all of them, saying its "enough Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres for me!" essentially. So are they really related at all? Well for those who read the Pokédex, you get even more hints that they really aren't related to the legendary birds. It attempts to, just as the people have, justify in odd ways why they're called what they are From the Pokédex: "Known as Articuno," "is what inspired the name Moltres" "That’s why this Pokémon is called Zapdos." I think what we have here is convergent Pokémon being discovered by people who didn't really know what the heck a convergent Pokémon was - I mean, if you saw these birds from far away, you'd probably think they were the same since they look SO similar! People just began to call these 'mons the same as the other ones, not realizing they were different species. It's like if no one really got a clear look at a wiglett, and just assumed it was a very shy diglett that likes beaches! Right, thats exactly what the official site says... yet it also calls them vairants... well, I don't think you'd be able to study legendary Pokémon very easily, especially cruel, malevolent, violent ones at that... ...and of course in terms of game logic, this could have very well been a tease at convergent 'mons, and they didn't want to invent it quite yet. So, are they convergent? How do legendaries even come into being in the first place? Am I missing the deep lore on how the Bird Trio was created and this makes no sense? Eh, IMO it makes about as much sense as them being variants. Pokémon lore is weird, and I think this headcanon is very fun, and likely to be true. To end off, I'd like to perhaps challenge you all to give them unique names. I'll reveal my naming scheme and my chosen names right below this
I think for convergent mons, some of the original name should be intact - in my case, I wanted to keep the uno, dos, tres in tact, and combine their Cruelness, Malevolence, and... strong legs? Yeah, zapdos is kinda silly. Ahem: Espicuno (ESP) or Crudicuno (Crude) Maltres (malevolent) Sturdos (strong? sturdy?) or Dexdos (dexterity)
But feel free to reblog with your own names, or thoughts on this. this was kinda... fumbled together with me going back and forth, the overall pacing of this post is sort of a mess... but its still got The Facts, even if they're scattered about. my point stands that its a fun headcanon :p

Question (because I see you post about it): which Pokémon game is the best?
I haven’t touched one since Pearl/Diamond I think…
Also, is Pokémon Go still a thing?
Also also, which Pokémon is your favorite?
oooo, I love pokémon. it's hard to pick a best, because there are elements of each that I love. for eg, the aesthetic of the legends arceus and the photo shop and the exploration and how you do actually throw the pokéballs is incredible, playing with pokémon properly in x and farming berries and the hoards are fun, while I adore some of the regional forms in moon, I like the shield dlc in particular because I love legendary hunting and peony is like my favourite character in anything ever, the battles in go are tense I think, oh and I like the soups and camping in shield and how the bikes feel to ride. so like, I can't pick a favourite outright, I think I would pick a hypothetical game that combined everything I like within other games lmao. but I have the most hours in arceus, if that's worth anything, so it's probably that, by virtue of you play what's most enjoyable most usually. I know all of those are more modern ones, but I've played those most and most recently. yes pokémon go still exists, I play it from time to time. my loyalty is telling me to say that piplup is my favourite- I had a badass level hundred piplup once that could take down anything, but like, I'll honestly say I also love xurkitree, alolan raichu (provided I'm the person controlling it, other trainers keep using speed swap as if there's not 100 better things it can do, but the ai in shield is just absolutely wack bro), alolan sandslash, alolan ninetales, galarian ponyta, galarian slowbro, starmie, galarian zapdos, mismagius, sunshine form cherrim, cradily, flaaffy, medicham, trash cloak womadam, infernape, kirlia, gardevoir, roselia, roserade, mawile, duskull, lopunny, mime jr, spiritomb, weavile, sneasler, sneasel, porygon-z, manaphy, phione, absol, froslass, rotom, azelf, snivy, simipour, excadrill, hisuian lilligant, scraggy, scrafty, pawniard, bisharp, zorua, zoroark, hisuian zorua, hisuian zoroark, mienfoo, mienshao, sligoo, goodra, hisuian goodra, riolu, lucario, hisuian decidueye, reuniclus, floette, florges, amaura, aurorus, carbink, primarina, braixen, dragalge, sylveon, male meowstic, noivern, rimbombee, all 3 forms of lycanroc, mimikyu, volcarona, flapple, steenee, dragapult, cinderace, raboot, ice face eiscue, tapu lele, phantump, hattrem, machamp, passimian, toxtricity, indeedee, toxapex, lurantis, morgrem, and probably more I forgor. it's hard picking favourites, but it's probably between kirlia, riolu, hisuian lilligant, galarian zapdos, cinderace, mimikyu, and lurantis. with dream team being cinderace, lurantis, hisuian lilligant, galarian zapdos, starmie, and medicham. I think?? maybe?? ahhh. sorry I couldn't give you a simple answer, I love pokémon too much lol.

More realistic pokemon, kind of want to make it a series
Galarian Zapdos: A cousin of the more well known Layudian Zapdos. Though unable to fly, it can run up to speeds of 65 mph
Ditto: No one knows how this amorphous blob came to be, but lately very powerful people have been buying them as designer pets
Gardivoir: aka the greater guarding mantis. There’s a phenomenon in which some people find it very attractive

Sync Pair Stories - A Day with Hop
Transcript
[Game text]: A Day with Hop GO!
[Text Box]: [player name] was training with Hop, and they kept going until they were completely exhausted.
Hop: Phew, I sure worked up a sweat! It really got me fired up!
Leon: You and your Pokémon fought hard. Good effort out there!
Leon: Made me almost want to let out Charizard and join in on all the fun!
Hop: What's wrong? Not satisfied yet?
[Player-selected]: It doesn't look tired at all!
Hop: Yeah! It's so full of energy, even I struggle to keep up!
Hop: Ever since we met, I don't think I've seen it get tired.
Leon: How did you two meet?
Hop: Well, let me tell you how our legend began!
Hop: I met Zapdos when I was exploring the Wild Area in Galar.
Hop: Zapdos loves to battle.
Hop: When it saw my Zamazenta, instead of backing down…
Hop: it charged straight at us without any fear!
Hop: But when I tried to catch it, it ran away at an incredible speed, and it was hard to catch up to.
Leon: Hahaha! That sounds like a lot of work!
Hop: It's been a lot of work ever since we teamed up.
Hop: Zapdos's combativeness hasn't changed! It'll challenge anyone to a battle!
Hop: The reason why I asked [player name] to train with me is…
Hop: I wanted to sharpen my skills, so I'd be ready to battle anyone at any time.
Hop: It's actually nice being with Zapdos, because it's so decisive!
Leon: You must be battling a lot more since you partnered up with Zapdos, right?
Leon: I feel like your skills improved. That's probably why!
Hop: Really?! If that's so, meeting Zapdos has brought me so many good things!
Hop: Speaking of which! Here on Pasio, I had an opportunity to learn about Zapdos from a different region.
Hop: It uses Electric-type moves and is good at flying. It's completely different from Galarian Zapdos!
Leon: Wow, I didn't know that!
Hop: Interesting, right?!
Hop: My goal is to be a Pokémon Professor, but I still wanna battle together with different Pokémon!
[Player-selected]: Let's keep it up!
Hop: Of course! There's still loads I want you to teach me, [player name]!
Hop: Hey, Lee.
Hop: When me and Zapdos get even stronger than we are now…
Leon: Of course! I'll take you on!
Hop: Thanks, Lee! I'll consider that a promise!

Unit Teambuilding - Champion Hop
I wanted to transcribe the roadrunner noise from the old Looney Toons cartoons, but I both couldn’t remember the noise and could not possibly transcribe it in a way anyone would know what I was doing.  Pretend I did a good job.
General Overview Gonna call this boy Washington, with how hard he’ll kick you apart.  Hop gets Galarian Zapdos, a Fighting-type tech.  His main move is Thunderous Kick, which is a fairly low BP 4-bar that debuffs defense 1 stage each hit.  His second passive does make it debuff special defense by 1 as well, so it’s effectively Sundering 10.  Dire Hit All+ is always a nice trick to pull.  His buddy move gives Fighting Zone and +3 speed, but lowers special defense by 1.  Which is playing into his hands, as it gives him Free Move Next per his third skill.  His primary passive is Head Start 1 like all the birds, but the second part is +6 attack on entry.  So fairly self-sufficient by offense.  His buddy move activates when the sync countdown has reduced by 6.  It’s 200BP, cannot miss, has Piercing Blows, and debuffs foe’s defense and speed by 3, which includes special defense per his passives.  Which is a respectable debuff in a single action.  And of course, Galar Pride.  So even before grid, he’s doing great damage.  His grid adds up to 250% sync damage (Hop/Kris solidarity in kicking with insane sync multipliers), he gets sharp Entry to save a turn buffing, and has either MPR or Brawling Opening Sync for more Fighting Zone.
The pros of Hop should be obvious.  Great damage, insane debuffer, Zone support.  It’s pretty much everything you could want.  So what’s the argument against?
SSA Cynthia.  I’ll admit, this is not iron-clad reasoning, but Cynthia already provides the Zone on entry and every sync forever, while her buddy move facilitates both types of offense with stacks of moves up next.  She’s also immortal, and makes the team immortal.  Those are great traits that are hard to beat.  But.  Hop does compete.  Debuffs are longer lasting than the stacks of moves up, especially with Cynthia’s buddy move being locked to 2MP.  Hop’s Fighting Zone can be called at any time, so many are rejoicing they can finally sync with...I dunno, Bruno or something.  More on that later, but it’s being cited as the main factor for preferring him over Cynthia.  And while Cynthia is role compression for Fighting Zone, she is also not an offense buffer, meaning for lower-tier Fighting-types, Hop may be preferred to allow for an offense-buffing support to round out the team.  Cynthia can’t be a good partner to, say, Brawly, but Hop can.
But to get back to that “Hop can set up an ally’s sync” thing that everyone’s freaking out about: functionally, a 3/5 Hop and SSA Cynthia are equivalent for their teammates.  Hop is so ludicrously powerful that there is zero reason, in any meta, to use someone else’s sync over his.  The argument that he sets Zone in time for a sync is irrelevant when he’s able to dish out the numbers he can.  This is one of those things people get really obsessive about, but it’s only relevant if he’s not outright stronger than his partners.  Which, like most Zone setters, he is at 3/5.  Nothing currently available outperforms him in DPS or sync, so what possible reason is there to set Zone for an ally?  They will only exist for additional DPS, the same as Cynthia.  The only situation in which this will matter is CS, where Hop’s single-target -1 debuffing game is way too slow to effectively set up max powered sync nuke.  But I’m reasonably confident he can still handle it without issue.  “But what if I want SC Guzma or Wally to explode the CS stage instead?”  If that fifteen seconds matters to you, go for it.  But it seems a waste to pull a guy to 3/5 just so someone else can sync nuke worse than him.
EX and Move Level? Just like Marnie, 1/5 no EX will do him just fine.  His utility effects, and even his DPS if you’re being real, will hit just fine.  If you go 3/5, you may as well full invest for one of the best sync nukes in the game and slap that EX on him.
Team 1: C!Hop, Skyla/Summer Hilda, SS Leaf/Masked Royal Hop’s sync multipliers include debuffing foe’s special defense, and boosting his own speed, but his sync targets physical defense.  Based on this knowledge, Skyla is a good support to max speed while providing defensive backbone, or Summer Hilda can get the missing debuff for him.  As a third, SS Leaf has Sundering to debuff defenses (and another -1 for fast ramp), while Masked Royal patches up Summer Hilda’s speed and offers defense debuffing.
Team 2: C!Hop, Anni Raihan, Maylene Head Start.  Anni Raihan.  You know the drill.  Maylene’s buffs are noted as relevant here, solely because of Pep Rally and a possible Precision Pals for evasive stages.  Rock Smash On a Roll can also help set up a good first sync.
Team 3: C!Hop, Lillie, Bruno Anti-Latias.  C!Hop debuffs really well, but a unit like Lillie adds in the missing accuracy component that allows them to hit in later phases.  Bruno is a solid secondary striker, since he also buffs speed with Amped Up 2, appreciates Lillie’s accuracy and Hop’s Zone, and can self-buff crit while Lillie buffs his offenses.
Final Thoughts As a Tech Nuker with built-in Zone, Hop is pretty well equipped to annihilate stages in Gauntlet.  I think it’s CS where he’s going to struggle, solely because of the single-target debuffs.  The fact that his debuff sync multiplier is Smarty-Pants really stings, because now you need a rare trait in AoE Sp Def debuffing.  Oh hey Lucian.  But even there, Hop will be fine.  Inertia alone will allow him to perform a denial in CS on sides, and his DPS being what it is, he might even KO the center before second sync anyway.  I wouldn’t be too surprised.  My point being, Hop was optimized for Gauntlet, but is ridiculous in every way, to the point of nearly suffering from success.  I legitimately think the whole “But he sets Zone for sync!” is only relevant to him.  Everyone else pales in comparison, so what does it even matter?

ok so I?? realized I completely forgot to do this meme for the past, like... three games??? so here’s me remedying that dereliction.
Galar was an easy one. it has a bunch of Pokemon I think are alright, and loooots I cannot stand. but all in all I gotta say even among the Pokemon I like in Galar, there are few I really adore. most of them just kinda grew on me, like in the case of  Copperajah, or Chimpep, which I have grown to love a lot more since my initial response of “NOT ANOTHER MONKEY!!”
personally I think the only design that really slaps is Galarian Zapdos, everything ranges from a B+ to a B-.
on the flip side, we got a lot of designs that kinda piss me off lmao. I’m not even gonna get started on Inteleon and it’s creepy ass hands. but I will talk about how unhappy I am with the trend of Pokemon that have obviously been designed as 3D assets first and have been illustrated later, as is clearly the case for Morgrem, and especially Impidimp. I understand that the approach to coming up with Pokemon is changing in the times of 3D graphics, but models that are so clearly cobbled together from default shapes as these seem very lazy to me.
I decided to dedicate four slots to each of the new fossil Pokemon. despite the fact that I think some of the designs are alright, I hate the fact that all of them are basically constantly in the process of dying.
honorable mention goes to Appletun. I can see the appeal here, but I’m very on the fence about Pokemon made of food and it’s eyes creep me tf out.
generally not a terrible generation for new Pokemon, but not a fantastic one either.
-
Hisui also gets a little extra meme cause why not. Hisuian Liligant might be one of my fav mons ever. the only drop of bitterness about it is that it basically replaced my Hisuian Decidueye, since they did not fix Decidueye’s abysmal speed stat and Hisuian Lilligant has the objectively better move pool. Hisuian Goodra is fantastic all around, and I personally feel like the huge snail shell is exactly what has always been missing about this design.
when it comes to least fav mons this game, I got a lot more opinions, especially on the starter forms. generally I think I’d like to describe Hisui forms and their evolutions with the phrase “missed opportunity”. that’s why Hisuian Arcanine is on my list of least fav mons this game, cause the potential of a Fire/Rock Arcanine was ginormous and the result extremely underwhelming, especially in 3D. Kleavor and Enamorous are a crime against nature. I actually had trouble believing they were real Pokemon and not badly stitched together fakes.
-
alright so next up is Paldea. oh boy.
maybe I should preface this section by saying that the only reason I got this game is cause I’m participating in an event later this year where everyone needs a copy of Purple or Scarlet, and I only bought it secondhand on ebay. I wouldn’t have gotten this game at all, and I do not approve of the direction this franchise is headed rn.
alright, now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the mons I like first. I don’t think I need to say that I’m generally severely underwhelmed with the designs this gen. even among my faves, there are few that I really stan. and Slither Wing and Roaring Moon, which I actually really like, are basically legendaries that I couldn’t use in my run of the game. I mean four of the Pokemon on my fav list aren’t even fully evolved ffs. that’s especially sad in the case of Arctibax. I had one in my team and I really loved the simplistic, almost gen 1-ish approach to its design. but then it evolved, and for the first time ever I was sad that my pseudo legendary hit its final form :/
Ceruledge rocks, no further commentary needed.
the two honorary mentions are designs I think are pretty lame visually, but that I cannot help but stan either because of the concept (Maushold) or because of the personality (Flamigo). ....honestly Flamigo just makes me happy. also it got me out of a couple of pinches in the early game. love this dumb bird.
which brings us to. the list of mons I dislike. I tried to narrow it down to 10 + 2 honorable mentions, but I quickly realized that that’s a p hopeless endeavor. so here are most of the designs in this gen I cannot stand. yeppppp, really just a hater this time around. once again I have to talk about design philosophies, and how they change, and how that’s okay, yadda yadda yadda. throughout the last couple months, GF is CLEARLY into prioritizing ?quirky? designs. but there’s a difference between making a design kinda comical, and treating it as nothing but a joke.
I wasn’t sure whether I was gonna say more than that, cause people really be touchy when it comes to fans criticizing the franchise they have been into for over 20 years. but then I remembered that this is my blog and I can hate as much as I want on here. so I decided to give a quick reason why I dislike each of these guys, but I’ll try to keep it to one sentence.
Crocalor: bad shapes and bad color distribution.
Quaxwell: what’s the duck doing with that huge cake??
Spidops: Terrifying, ugly shapes, next please.
Pawmi, Pawmo, Pawmot: it’s the exact same Pokemon three times?!
Arboliva: why do the olives look like they’re just copy pasted on?!?
Squawkabilly: literally how do you fuck up a rockabilly inspired parrot design so hard that it looks like a kellogg’s knockoff mascot??
Naclstack: Minecraft.
Bellibolt: love the idea with the face, hate everything else.
Maschiff: looks like the annoyingly dumb villain in a western 90s cartoon.
Mabosstiff: hate the face, hate the colors, hate that GF doesn’t stop giving its animals beards.
Shroodle: sorry I just need more than a sentence here cause this might very well be the worst Pokemon ever conceived in my opinion. it’s definitely THE most egregious example of 3D assets lazily pushed together to create a design that is barely even readable. like, what is that thing sticking out its... nose? mouth? is that its tongue? its teeth? just looking at it makes me depressed. everything that’s wrong with Pokemon designs recently.
Tumblr media
Grafaiai: Idk, I could maybe find it acceptable, but why GF, why has no one ever told you that you never mix two hues of black in one design, and you ESPECIALLY do NOT let them touch each other!!!
Bramblin and Brambleghast: they’re just bushes lol.
Klawf: it’s straight up Krabby again, like???
Capsakid: everything I already said about Shroodle, just that Shroodle already took the cake.
Scovillain: when I saw this one I almost backflipped away from the screen. what are those heads. those freakishly thin necks. what. are. those. ARMS. it’s like the person who was tasked with modelling this thing just gave up towards the end. soulless. we deserve better.
Rellor: oh okay that’s almost kinda coo- OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT FACE??
Tinkatink, Tinkatuff, Tinkaton: yeah I know I’m getting in hot water here, but I’m sorry this is a straight up Sonic character.
Wiglett and Wugtrio: there’s nothing terribly wrong with these, I’m just tried of Diglet receiving extra attention.
Palafin: it’s just so funny cause people have been begging for a dolphin Pokemon for decades, and then we get... this fucking joke of a toothpaste tube.
Orthworm: why.
Greavard and Houndstone: so tired of ridiculously transparent manipulation tactics like coming up with three new evolutionary lines of high concept dog designs and going “PUPPER!! DON’T YOU ALL LOVE THIS SILLY LITTLE DOGGO?!”
Veluza: I coulda sworn we JUST had this exact same Pokemon last gen.
Tatsugiri: sorry I just hate its lore, which is especially funny cause a couple days before this Pokemon was revealed, I saw a fan design based on the exact same concept and it kicked so much ass and leaned so much into how disgusting the background idea was that I couldn’t help but love it. I can’t find it anymore, but it was like a creepy necro mermaid that sticks out of the body of its dead prey and uses it as a tail. why do people like that not work for GF?
...I think that’s overall my question. literally every fan design I see, every redesign made by fans, it’s almost shocking? how they’re pretty much always better, there’s always more thought put into it, better inspiration, the lines flow better, the shapes are clearer, the movement is better, the designs are more appealing, have better color distribution... like, it’s not like there aren’t people with fantastic ideas out there. sorry, it’s just. kinda depressing.
EDIT: found it! check it out, it’s creepy and inspired and fantastic! (cw: body horror)
Dudunsparce: another one of these where it’s like... people were begging GF to give Dunsparce some love, an evolution, a regional form, anything. and what they get is this. I know this is me reading into things but it does start to feel like GF is just tired? of all of it?
Kingambit: insert “look how they massacred my boy” gif
Iron Treads: why would you fuck up a perfectly good design like Donphan’s like this.
Iron Bundle: no.
Frigibax: once again, too western, doesn’t fit its evolutions, what is going on.
Gholdengo: to make this the 1000th Pokemon truly is. a choice. then again, it is a stack of money, so.
Chien-Pao: it’s fangs clip through its mouth...!!!!!
notable mentions go to: Quaquaval’s legs and feet. once more GF’s obsession with making its monsters look like humans in costumes ruins an otherwise alright design. I’ve seen people give it more bird-like legs and immediately everything about this Pokemon came together way better. it’s just staggering how easily some of these guys could be fixed. the other notable mention is Iron Valiant’s dumb fucking pigtails, without which this design could have slapped.
Idk man. no closing words here. I already said everything I gotta say. sorry this doesn’t end on a more positive note, but imho GF needs to get a grip, badly.

The updated list!
Stuff I want to see in Masters. Didn’t add new combos, just added more details.
N and Zoroark - Dark tech pair. Dark zone. Special sync, Dark Pulse special move but also Foul Play physical. Trainer move buffing both his attacks. If he doesn’t buff crit, it’s an excuse to use Piers and Obstagoon. Win-Win.
Piers and Toxitricity (Low Key Form) - Poison Special Strike. Give him the one ability that changes move types so he can have poison type Boomburst. Maybe an option for poison zone if they don’t give it to eventual Oleanna. Go Viral Toxic if you’re feeling adventurous.
Leon and Dragapult - Ignoring that another Leon might cause a revolt, I’d love this for Halloween. Honestly not too fussed about what he does.
Raihan and Goodra - Alright, we got the Flygon covering two of the weathers, now give me Dragon Support Goodra that can set rain please and thank you.
Volkner and Regieleki - Electric Support but like I want this to be flexible because of his other electric appearances. Give me something that buffs speed and something else and let it be gimmicky enough to flex off type.
Volkner and Galarian Zapdos - In a shift away from my previous one, I want this to be Fighting Tech. Physical sync, Fighting zone, Thunderous Kick with its guaranteed defense drop. Would be nice if they made it a two charge move since the fighters I use most are 3+.
Caitlyn and Espeon - Psychic Tech. I want big nuke. Ignore MewTwo submit to Espeon.
Grimsley and Galarian Moltres - I wanted big dark tech nuke but now Cyrus and Darkrai exists so. Uh. Dunno. Just think it’d be a fun pair.
Cheren and Ditto - Normal tech, something gimmicky.
Lana and Wishiwashi - Again why wasn’t this the base? Water Strike, not picky. Maybe give her some rain buffs to go with that rain setting Goodra mentioned above, heh.
Gladion and Umbreon - Dark support would be fun, since Umbreon is so bulky. Maybe another dark zone setter, if down the line they decide to release more for the same type. Perhaps another potion bot that can be someone I like more than Sidney (who I am in fact still incredibly salty about being the one to have Absol despite knowing it makes sense).
Riley and Lucario - Still waiting guys. Steel tech or support, please. Play to the variety from Korrina’s mega.
Wallace and Mespirit/Azelf/Uxie - Still have no explanation for this. Any combo would be fine. Maybe Dynamax for giggles. This one is just really out there.
Silver and Weavile - Ice Physical Strike. Give him all the crit gimmicks. All of them.
Bede and Galarian Rapidash - Listen I know he’s gonna have Hattrene or whatever but since I don’t like that thing I’d rather see big Fairy Tech rainbow horse. Our non-seasonal Fairy options are still uhhhhhhhh not ideal attackers (Sycamore being a fantastic tank more than DPS, Lillie’s support, and Valerie and Mina are a struggle).
Bede and Galarian Articuno - This is indulgent because both this Articuno and Bede feel like the kind of smug I’m-Better-Than-You types and I think it would be funny. Another one I’m not to picky on combo.
Roark and Dracovish - Actually narrowing down which fossil, this would just be so goddamn funny. I dunno what combo.
Honorable Mentions to the two that have come true from the original, Raihan and Flygon, Cynthia and Giratina

Note
“Zeraora is a bipedal, feline Pokémon with primarily yellow and black fur. The fur is thinner and black on its lower legs, lower body, upper arms, and face, and is thicker and yellow everywhere else. There is also a zigzagging black stripe on each thigh and two more stripes on each forearm. There are small tufts of light blue fur on its chest and a longer tuft on its forehead. Zeraora also has a single, lightning bolt-shaped blue whisker on each cheek. A long, ponytail-like or tail-like bunch of fur extends from between its shoulders. Zeraora has large ears with black insides and blue eyes. Its forepaws have four clawed fingers and light blue pads, while its hindpaws have only three clawed toes.
Zeraora lacks an electricity-generating organ, so it gathers and stores electricity from outside sources. This Pokémon can create a very powerful magnetic field through the strong electric currents emitted from its paw pads. Using this magnetic field allows it to levitate and move at high speeds while airborne. Zeraora can travel as fast as a lightning strike. Its fur is known to stand on end whenever it is using massive amounts of electricity.[1] Zeraora can tear its opponents apart with its high-voltage claws. Even if the opponent dodges, they can still get electrocuted by the flying sparks. Lighting flashes and thunderclaps can occur when Zeraora starts running.
Zeraora is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Plasma Fists.”

This is the Pokemon you encountered in that alternate dimension Alola, right Ash? I’ll admit even my information about it is pretty obscure. There’s not much about its permeability, I mean... I might have a lead for Professor Cerise to explore. One has been sighted on Balusylva Island in the Lental Region. In the Bad Barrens. At least that is what the info says. Do you have a Lental Region in your dimension, seems like Todd Snap has been there to help a Professor “Mirror.” It has special glowing Pokémon called Illumina Pokemon. Can’t find much about them.
As for Goh. Have you heard the legends of the “King of Bountiful Harvests” that once ruled the Crown Tundra? It’s a Pokemon that has not been seen much of in the past century or so. There is some debate about whether it rode a horse of ice or a horse of spirits. The King was rumored to be able to predict the future at its full power. And speak our language.
Also there’s apparently a Galarian form of the Legendary Birds. A fighting-type Zapdos that runs, a psychic-type floating Articuno, and a dark-type flaming Moltres. I... believe they are actually real, but just subspecies of the birds.
Ash: So that's what Todd's been up to, eh? I wonder how come the Professor hasn't asked us to go there yet
Maybe this Lental region doesn't exist here... that'd be disappointing. I do really love shiny things! ☺️
Goh: Sonia's told me some of these legends... it seems like Galarians don't pay a lot of attention to their old stories if they keep mixing up details like that
I couldn't catch Zapdos last time, it was too bad... maybe this other Zapdos will be easier. Even if I've never really tried catching a "speedy" pokémon before

The Legendary Birds
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now as we approach the end of this generation’s Pokedex, we start talking about the Legendary Pokemon. For those unaware, each generation has a trio of Pokemon who you can only get one instance of, can’t breed, and usually come with pretty impressive stats and abilities to boot. Sometimes they even have their own intricate lore and histories, but the first generation’s trio are a bit more modest.
The Legendary Birds, as it were, were simply treated as just that. Extremely rare avian creatures which, when spotted, generated myths and tales of folklore on where they came from and where they go. They don’t have any amazing godlike powers or anything, they’re just special, elemental birds. They’re kind of the Pokemon world’s cryptids, which is funny considering the weirder, more common creatures that are running around freely.
Articuno is a nice design, pretty sleek and cleanly drawn. The long tail is neat, and likely meant to evoke a cold gust of wind. Articuno also makes the first of this Ice/Electric/Fire triad, much like Jynx from earlier. Articuno is also kind of amusing for just resembling a songbird, only one with intense ice powers.
Score: 3/5
Tumblr media
Like with Eevee, I’ll rank each bird individually since they don’t technically belong to the same family.
Tumblr media
Zapdos is easily the coolest of the three birds, featuring extremely jagged, bursting wings and an elongated, thin beak. It even has a sort of second pair of black wings behind its main yellow ones, which are cool. What’s even better is that while attacking, Zapdos’s wings pulsate and shift in shape like real electrical currents. Neat!
Score: 4/5
Tumblr media
A cool thunderbird.
Tumblr media
Moltres, though, I’ve never been too big on. Its flames have never been drawn in an especially appealing way, and its yellow chicken body blends far too easily into them and makes the whole thing look pretty muddled, unfortunately. It doesn’t help that all of Moltres’s fire detail causes some terrible lag in the more recent 3D games.
Score: 2/5
Tumblr media
A bit too hot for my tastes.
Tumblr media
Then, when the eighth generation got DLC, all three Legendary Birds ended up getting Galarian regional forms. It’s pretty neat for Legendaries of all things to get unique forms like this, and makes more sense for the original Kanto birds to get them since they aren’t unique, one-per-universe special cases like other Legendaries have become. They’re just incredibly rare animals, and these are ones of the same species who acclimated to a new region.
What’s also cool is that, while changing types, these forms still incorporate aspects about their old typings somewhere in their abilities or designs. Galarian Articuno here is Psychic/Flying, but uses its psychic powers to freeze and immobilize its prey. It even floats during its idle animation, as if too good to bother flapping its wings. That eye mask is also a cool touch, making Galarian Articuno feel pretty villainous in appearance.
Score: 4/5
Tumblr media
A dastardly psycho bird.
Tumblr media
Galarian Zapdos, though, really steals the show. I enjoy its new orange and black color scheme a lot, the yellow accents make for some excellent highlights, and the extra black lining around its eyes really add nicely to its design. Galarian Zapdos also gets huge points for now becoming a roadrunner, said to sprint at lightning-fast speeds and kick enemies just as fast. It took quite a while, but I’m glad there’s some more ratite representation in Pokemon since Doduo.
Galarian Zapdos is also now Fighting/Flying type, and is said to be strong enough to pulverize a dump truck. Very cool!
Score: 5/5
Tumblr media
Easily the best of the Legendary Birds.
Tumblr media
Lastly is Galarian Moltres, who easily received the best redesign of the three. Zapdos may be my favorite, but Moltres improves so drastically on the design of its Kantonian form. Now a Dark/Flying type, it’s said to be fueled by burning hatred and jealousy, emanating pure soul energy from poor spirits it manages to consume in its attacks. That’s positively wicked, and it excellently accentuated by Moltres’s new black and red color scheme. Look at its expression, it almost looks gleeful in the pain and malice it's spreading by its vicious attacks.
Score: 4.5/5
Tumblr media
It’s really incredible how strong each of the new regional forms are for the birds, and how they improve on everything the original Kanto forms set in the first place. One of generation eight’s more successful products, I’d say.

Pokémon Remaking: Questionable Questions
I haven't gotten very many bites responses to my questions (here or elsewhere), so I'ma answer them meself and see how this goes.
Why Three?
The reason I would limit it to three is that I've found I'd cut a gigantic portion of the Pokédex:
Would cut without question: Blastoise, Spearow/Fearow, Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff (redundant), Gloom, Venomoth, Dugtrio, Mankey/Primeape, Poliwrath, Machamp, Weepinbell/Victreebel, Graveler/Golem, Slowpoke/Slowbro, Hypno, Hitmonlee, Lickitung, Weezing, Rhydon, Tangela, Kangaskhan, Pinsir, Tauros, Snorlax.
Have ideas for reform, but would rather cut: Venusaur, Charmeleon, Metapod, Raichu, Both Nidoran lines, Zubat/Golbat, Diglett, Psyduck, Doduo/Dodrio, Seel, Grimer/Muk, Drowzee, Exeggutor, Koffing, Rhyhorn, Chansey, Scyther, Jynx, Electabuzz, Magmar, Omastar, Kabuto, Zapdos, Moltres.
Am "cutting" by incorporating into a fusion in which it isn't the primary Pokémon: Caterpie, Weedle, Kakuna, Vulpix/Ninetales, Venonat, Kadabra/Alakazam, Krabby/Kingler, Goldeen/Seaking, Magikarp.
Reforms I have in mind would basically strip it of its original/finalized design anyway: Clefairy/Clefable, Poliwag/Poliwhirl, Tentacool/Tentacruel, Jolteon, Flareon
Want to touch up/rework but don't have ideas on yet or are so unimportant that I'm not actively thinking about them: Bulbasaur/Ivysaur (differentiate more?), Pidgey, Rattata/Raticate, Ekans/Arbok, Vileplume, Paras/Parasect, Meowth/Persian, Golduck, Growlithe/Arcanine (crappy art), Machoke (crappy art), Bellsprout, Magneton, Farfetch'd, Dewgong, Gastly/Haunter, Voltorb/Electrode, Horsea/Seadra, Starmie, Mr. Mime, Gyarados, Dratini, Dragonite, Mewtwo.
Need a type change: Butterfree (Bug/Psychic?; could use fusions from other Lepidopterans), Oddish (mono-Grass?), Ponyta/Rapidash (aka Galarian), Cubone/Marowak (aka Alolan)
I mean, I'm down to 32 Pokémon which I'd mostly leave alone or change so little that it's like I'm doing fanart.
So there you go. That's why only three.
1.) Which Three Pokémon Would You Cut?
This is a really close one, but after deciding that ideas I have constitute reformation, I would cut Tangela, Kangaskhan, and Tauros.
1a.) Why Tangela?
Tangela is a hideous vine monster with clashing cartoony feet; of the Grass-types in Gen I, it looks the stupidest. There are plenty of other vine monsters out there; heck, Bellsprout would work just as well evolving into a vine monster as it does continuing the pitcher plant idea. With that in mind, Bellsprout and Tangela are functionally identical in move set (Tangela learns Bind and Constrict while Bellsprout learns Wrap; Bind is a worse version of Wrap, while Constrict [despite its name] isn't a partial trapping move at all, but a very weak attack that has a 33% chance of lowering the target's Speed by a stage) save that Tangela can learn Absorb (like an Oddish) instead of Acid. In the metagame, it's not as good as Venusaur or Victreebel, which outperform it at everything it does. There's simply no reason to have this wretched thing besides being the only mono-Grass-type in the generation.
1b.) Why Kangaskhan?
Kangaskhan is a kaiju that looks nothing like the kangaroo that it's named over save the most minor of details: it carries a baby in a pouch attached to its stomach, it's a tailed biped, it's brown (though kangaroos tend to be gray or red), and it can punch. Where are the kangaroo legs? Why doesn't it have a deer/mouse head? As a kaiju, it looks more like early (crappy) paleoart of therapods than anything. It's been suggested that its appearance is based on some sort of Mongolian armor, which doesn't help matters: trying to change it to look more like a kangaroo makes this thing unrecognizable as Kangaskhan, armor or no armor. Furthermore, I am of the opinion that there should not be Pokémon based on iconic Australian fauna (kangaroos, koalas, platypodes, etc.) until we finally get a region based on Australia (which will be sometime after Game Freak exhausts its interest in Europe; I mean, we went Hokkaido but the main male character is French coded, New York but there's a lot of heavily French coding, France, Hawaii for a moment, Britain but especially Scotland, and now Spain.)
1c.) Why Tauros?
Cows are not Pokémon. Cows aren't interesting enough to be dignified with anything beyond the distinction of providing tasty, tasty foods and leather. Tauros isn't even something that's outside of the realm of possibility with domestic bulls: it has extra knobs on its head and two extra tails, but such things can happen with (gasp) deformities. To have the gall to give us this boring-ass thing and then make it one of the strongest Pokémon in the game and make it exclusive to the Safari Zone when cattle raising is by no means exotic is just infuriating. No Tauros.
2.) What would you include instead (and why)?
Leafeon, Duraludon, and the Steel-type.
Leafeon is pretty straight-forward: the Leaf Stone was one of the last items (probably the last item) included in the game and beta designs for Leafeon made it into Gold/Silver, but we didn't see the thing until Gen IV (largely unchanged). It's a glaring omission, even if Eevee and the Eeveelutions already take up too much room in the Pokédex as-is. Most importantly of all, it would be a pure Grass-type in a generation which doesn't have those.
Duraludon may have come out in Gen VIII, but it's clearly the finalized look of Omega, a Pokémon that was cut from Green/Japanese!Red (Mew overwrote its space in the index) and had been in the roster since Period 1. For once, it makes the stumpy kaiju look work.
Duraludon demands there be a Steel-type. That in itself might have altered how Gen I worked significantly, especially since Rock in this generation is entirely an extension of the Ground type when it's not used to note that something was a fossil (none of the fossil Pokémon in Gen I can learn Rock-type moves). How I'd integrate it into the type chart is another matter entirely.

So from spending so much time in working on creating an artificial Pokemon and failing (the brainstorming took me two weeks), I decided to take a break and observe some of my newer caught Pokemon when they’re not doing tasks.
Speeds has a bit of an ego, and thinks he’s the fastest, but was unable to beat Spooks and Anubis in a race. He then spent time brooding and roosting a ways away from the camp, clearly hurt until Sean gave him a small talk. He now walks around, looking at everyone else as if keeping an eye on them, as if they’re part of his flock. I don’t know what Sean said to him, but it clearly left an impact. He’s a prideful bird.
Spooks is very curious, and keeps trying to touch everything that’s in his reach, I had to put many things on guard as Spooks being a ghost, it’s difficult to keep a hold of him, so the more delicate and dangerous items have one guard on duty while I’m working.
Striker and Fatal spend their time studying each other’s strikes, Gregory often joins in on these study sessions. It seems that despite them being entirely different Urshifu’s with different strike forms, they still believe in learning from each other, even teaching Gregory how to do their strikes. That is a true warrior right there.
Porthos, Aramis and Athos often stay out of the way, keeping to themselves or training their swords. D’Artagnan has warmed up to everyone else, but it’ll be a while for the other Swords of Justice, especially Athos. All in due time though.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass new trailer. Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass Part 1: The Isle of Armor will launch on June 17, 2020.  Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass Part 2: The Crown Tundra will launch in Fall 2020.
Overview
Expansion Pass Part 1: The Isle of Armor
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first new adventure unlocked by the Expansion Pass will take place on the Isle of Armor, an island of the Galar region. Many Pokemon make this island their home, living freely amid the lush nature. The island is also home to a dojo for Pokemon battles. Players and their Pokemon will train hard to become stronger under Mustard, the master of this dojo.
■ Newly Discovered Pokemon
Galarian Slowbro
Tumblr media
Category: Hermit Crab Pokemon
Type: Poison/Psychic
Height: 5ʹ3″
Weight: 155.4 lbs.
Ability: Quick Draw
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Shellder bite set off a chemical reaction with the spices inside Galarian Slowpoke’s body, causing Galarian Slowbro to gain the Poison type. The Shellder that’s latched onto Slowbro sometimes unconsciously bites down harder on Slowbro’s arm, causing an itch that drives Slowbro to start wildly swinging its arm around and smashing its surroundings. With a speed that puts even the quickest reflexes to shame, Slowbro readies its Shellder and makes poisonous liquid shoot from the Shellder’s tip. This is Shell Side Arm, a Poison-type special move that may poison the target. The move inflicts either physical or special damage depending on which will damage the target more.
■ New Gigantamax Forms
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gigantamax Venusaur
Type: Grass/Poison
Height: 78ʹ9″+
Weight: ????.? lbs.
Ability: Overgrow
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The power of Gigantamaxing has made Venusaur’s flower bloom so large that it covers the Pokemon’s body. During battle, the Pokemon uses these petals as a shield and swings its two thick vines around to thrash its target. Grass-type attacks used by Gigantamax Venusaur will change to G-Max Vine Lash. G-Max Vine Lash doesn’t just deal damage to an opponent when it hits—it will continue to deal damage for four turns to any Pokemon that isn’t Grass type.
Gigantamax Blastoise
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Type: Water
Height: 82ʹ+
Weight: ????.? lbs.
Ability: Torrent
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blastoise’s shell has grown to match its body, and it boasts new extra-large water cannons as well. Gigantamax Blastoise can adapt to different situations by using different combinations of its 31 variously sized cannons. Gigantamax Blastoise can also move the 12 large cannons surrounding its central cannon independently, letting it orient its attacks in any direction, whether toward the ground or the sky. Water-type attacks used by Gigantamax Blastoise will change to G-Max Cannonade. G-Max Cannonade doesn’t just deal damage to an opponent when it hits—it will continue to deal damage for four turns to any Pokemon that isn’t Water type.
■ Legendary Pokemon Urshifu’s Exclusive Moves
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Legendary Pokemon Urshifu has two forms—Single Strike Style and Rapid Strike Style—and each form can learn different moves and G-Max Moves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Single Strike Style Urshifu that has followed the path of darkness can unleash a single, severe blow—a signature move known as Wicked Blow. This move always results in a critical hit, allowing Urshifu to attack while ignoring the target’s stat changes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Rapid Strike Style Urshifu that has followed the path of water can unleash a flowing three-hit combo—a signature move known as Surging Strikes. This move always results in critical hits, allowing Urshifu to attack while ignoring the target’s stat changes.
Unseen Fist is a new Ability introduced with these expansions and one that only Single Strike Style Urshifu and Rapid Strike Style Urshifu possess. This Ability lets the Pokemon deal damage when it attacks with moves that make direct contact even if the target defends itself by using moves like Protect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dark-type attacks used by Single Strike Style Gigantamax Urshifu will change to G-Max One Blow. Water-type attacks used by Rapid Strike Style Gigantamax Urshifu will change to G-Max Rapid Flow. G-Max One Blow and G-Max Rapid Flow can deal damage even if a target defends itself by using moves like Max Guard or Protect.
■ New Adventuring Featured Introduced in the Isle of Armor
Cram-o-matic
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The dojo on the Isle of Armor houses a unique take on recycling in the form of a device called the Cram-o-matic. If players feed it four items, it will combine them and give out a new item in exchange. Trainers can receive any of a variety of items, including Poke Balls, PP Ups, and more. Some combinations might even produce rare items.
Tutor Moves
Completely new tutor moves will also be available on the Isle of Armor. Trainers can have their Pokemon learn them in exchange for Armorite Ore, a substance that can be found on the Isle of Armor through Max Raid Battles and other means.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Burning Jealousy is a new Fire-type move that can be taught starting with these expansions. When it hits, it deals damage to all opposing Pokemon and burns all opposing Pokemon that have had their stats boosted during the turn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grassy Glide is a new Grass-type move that can be taught starting with these expansions. This move has high priority when used on Grassy Terrain.
Max Soup
Tumblr media
Max Soup is a special dish made from rare ingredients you can gather on the Isle of Armor. If a Pokemon with great hidden potential drinks Max Soup, it will become a special Pokemon capable of Gigantamaxing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some Pokemon that Trainers are already traveling with may also gain the ability to Gigantamax.
Expansion Pass Part 2: The Crown Tundra
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second area unlocked by the Expansion Pass is the snow-swept realm of the Crown Tundra. In this frigid yet beautiful landscape—with its jagged winter mountains and shining, silvery landscape—people live in small communities where they support and rely on one another. A man named Peony will appoint the player as the leader of his exploration team in the Crown Tundra and task them with investigating the reaches of this frozen land. Players will also be able to explore the depths of the Pokemon Dens seen during Max Raid Battles. What’s more, it seems several previously unseen Legendary Pokemon make the Crown Tundra their home.
■ Newly Discovered  Legendary Pokemon
Tumblr media
Regieleki
Category: Electron Pokemon
Type: Electric
Height: 3ʹ11″
Weight: 319.7 lbs.
Ability: Transistor
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Regieleki absorbs electrons to live. Regieleki’s signature Electric-type special move, Thunder Cage, fires furious bolts of electricity from its lower half, trapping opponents directly below it in a cage of lightning. Thunder Cage doesn’t only deal damage to opponents when it lands—the electrified cage will also cause damage every turn for four to five turns and prevent opponents from fleeing or being swapped out.
Regidrago
Tumblr media
Category: Dragon Orb Pokemon
Type: Dragon
Height: 6ʹ11″
Weight: 440.9 lbs.

Regirago’s body is composed of crystallized dragon energy. With Regidrago’s signature move, Dragon Energy, the Pokemon assumes a shape similar to a dragon’s head, then fires intense dragon energy from its mouth. The more HP the user has remaining, the higher the move’s power.
■ Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres?
Tumblr media
Legendary Pokemon bearing strong resemblances to Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres have been spotted in the Crown Tundra. These Pokemon seem to bear Ice-type, Electric-type, and Fire-type characteristics, respectively, and were previously thought to be the same as the Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres seen in other regions. Recently gathered data from reported sightings and other sources about the Pokemon have bolstered the theory that they are, in fact, distinct variants.

■ New Characters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Upon arriving in the Crown Tundra, players will encounter Peony, who has brought his daughter along on an adventure to find the truth behind tales of Legendary Pokemon in the area. Listening isn’t his strong suit, and his bold behaviour draws plenty of attention, but he has a kind side and plenty of affection for his daughter.
■ Dynamax Adventure
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trainers can team up with three other players to go on a Dynamax Adventure, where they will be able to venture into Pokemon Dens and even encounter Dynamax Pokemon. If Trainers do encounter a Dynamax Pokemon during their exploration, they’ll need to work together in a Max Raid Battle. Trainers will get a chance to catch the Dynamax Pokemon for their team if they triumph in the battle, but they’ll be kicked out of the den should they lose.
■ Galarian Star Tournament

Once Trainers progress far enough in their adventure in the Crown Tundra, they’ll be able to participate in the Galarian Star Tournament, held in the city of Wyndon. In this tournament, Trainers will battle with various characters they met in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield—but not just as opponents. They can also pick a teammate and tackle the tournament together.
