Sadly, Gen didn't win the Unreliable Narrator poll. In fairness, he had a steep battle against Lemony Snicket, who I imagine is more broadly familiar to readers (something something conflating quirkily convoluted storytelling with intentional unreliability something something WHATEVER). Also, it's always been Gen's strategy to never show his full hand (HA), so maybe he prefers not winning, to keep folks underestimating him.
Anyway, I was reminded I've had this piece sitting in my folder for a while, so here are two absolutely reliable narrators who are frequently rendered unreliable by their proximity to Gen. Sophos would hardcore get a tattoo after marrying Helen, and she would add one to match--it's a pinecone and an olive branch!

Oh, you married the older sister (?) of the friend/crush you connected with on a dangerous adventure as a teenager? She has some gender stuff going on and was pretty much the only person who could get through to him when he was extremely ill after one of the most traumatic experiences of his life? On a scale of Jerott Blyth to Sounis Sophos, how well did it go?

Took a hot minute (switching brain meds no fun can we get an oof in the chat), but I'm BACK with the memes, this time for A Conspiracy of Kings!
Unfortunately, this is the book where my child started asking us to read sections aloud (we avoided the murdery parts), and Hakakatoes and Akrekeysmashnesh can go kick rocks
But anyway. Let me take you through a bit of my process when I started this book.
"Oh boy, my favorite side character from the first book is back! I wonder what he'll get up to!"
Trauma is what. Should have known.
Baby boy needs some therapy and a course on self esteem my gosh.
He's too cinnamon roll for this awful political hellscape he got dumped into. But when it comes down to it...
Bunny Boy came in clutch and it was glorious.
(Me too, Gen.)
As if he didn't feel guilty enough already. Give! My! Child! A! Break!
And a couple extras of two of my favorite moments between the kings.
Anyhoo, overall not my favorite book in the series so far (which pains me to say because Sophos is My Darling Child Whom I Love Very Much), but still an excellent read!

To be fair to the Magus in The Thief, a perilous road trip with three teenagers who can't stop fighting would drive me to threaten violence, too

One of my favorite recurring details in the Queen's Thief is how the gods show approval by wounding characters in meaningful ways.
Obviously this one in The Thief:
I was quite certain I'd have a feather-shaped white scar. Getting across the makeshift bridge had been well done, and the god of thieves agreed, although some might not recognize his sign of approval.
But especially this one in Thick as Thieves, when Kamet decides to go back to the well to look for Costis:
I stretched my neck and turned my head, listening for any sign of life, and impaled myself on a splinter of broken wood.
"Monsters of hell," I whispered sharply, pulling away from the splinter that was sticking into my skin perilously close to my eye.
Immakuk, who lost an eye to Unse-Sek, approves.

The "Good" Donation
For @starsandseajustforyouandme, based on her oc, Sophos.
Happy early birthday??? I couldn't stop thinking about your anecdote about Sophos' childhood, and I just had to do something about it, so I did a little sketch of my interpretation of what you told me though I messed up the proportions/positioning a bit.
And, I wanted to commend you yet again for this ridiculously cute and tragic idea! Seriously, I still really am more invested in him and his stuffed-swan than I ever was in Hort's long-lost, frog pajamas.
