One thing I really like about the Shadowhunter books is that no matter how serious the subject matter, they always retain an undercurrent of lightheartedness. The characters don't lose their senses of humor. They don't cease to be themselves and start just being vehicles for a high-fantasy story. I think this is why I attach to Cassie's characters so hard - a lot of them feel super real. Also, the world building is really good because it rises up around those characters, because we get to see them engage with their world in an authentic way. Anyway, this was a shameless TSC praise post, hope that's cool.
