i saw cruella and it’s solidly a re-telling in the style of maleficent rather than a wicked-style here’s a villain who has a sympathetic dogs-killed-my-mom backstory movie, like at the end it’s highly implied that roger wrote the story we all know and this cruella HAS A DOG named buddy (who was her only friend for a second after she got very orphaned by dalmations) but it’s also like did we need a re-telling of cruella? is a re-telling of 101 dalmatians where you take the dog murder out of the equation EVEN possible? absolutely not. cruella is immutable. without A Cruella DeVille Who Wants To Dog Murder there is simply nothing there.
so what does disney do!!!! they give us evil emma thompson as a proto-cruella. they hand her vibes off to someone else, murder tendencies, moral panic about women who don’t want to be moms, red LIPSTICK, and all. they even gave cruella a NICE MOM who is the apex, the CRITICAL MASS of all Dead Disney Moms who Disney position as the moral center of the story (because the mother’s role is to be the moral center of the household)
actually let’s get into the gender and race politics of cruella. let’s get into it. can we talk about the how the first time anita and roger are both people of color, they’re also side characters? and FURTHERMORE anita was the most underutilized character in the whole movie!!! scratch whatever the fuck i said before, a re-telling of cruella that examines the gender politics of the original movie without bringing in emma thompson to be cruella 2: electric boogaloo WOULD HAVE BEEN GENUINELY COMPELLING, PARTICULARLY since this anita is a Black woman!! IMAGINE if she was the other central character in the movie. imagine
ANYWAY TL;DR that’s actually me realizing things right now, disney knew their concept was nonsense on a basic storytelling level and didn’t commit TO EITHER a proper retelling or a backstory exploration. but the costumes absolutely fucked! the cinematography was pretty neat! every song WAS

@locke-writes is hadestown
(but please, whenever you listen to doubt comes in, listen to the original recording with damon daunno because that version is the superior doubt comes in. and i love the reprise of wait for me with eva noblezada belting her heart out, but i have a whole essay on why that should be omitted, and the superior doubt comes in should be kept instead—)

Charming is a feeble attempt at lampooning fairytales the same way Shrek did back in 2001. Dated, poorly acted, kind of ugly, unfunny, and with an utterly forgettable soundtrack, this attempt at a revisionist’s fairytale is pointless.
As an infant, Prince Philippe Charming (Wilmer Valderrama) was cursed by the wicked fairy Nemeny Neverwish (Nia Vardalos). Any woman who sets eyes on him falls instantly in love but he is incapable of reciprocating their feelings. Through multiple attempts to find "the one", he’s rescued and become engaged to Snow White (Avril Lavigne), Cinderella (Ashley Tisdale), and Sleeping Beauty (G.E.M.) but is still no closer to breaking the curse. In a last-ditch attempt, he goes on a quest that’ll put his skills and courage to the test. Fortunately, the pampered ruler receives help in the form of a guide: a thief in disguise named Lenore (Demi Lovato).
It isn’t only the cannibal women with dresses and jewelry eerily reminiscent of Africa and Thailand that makes this feel like it was made much earlier than 2017 (it’s only getting a North American release now, a great sign). It’s the concept itself. Obviously, Lenore begins developing feelings for Prince Philippe - feelings unrelated to the curse because her heart was previously hardened far too much. She’s an adventurer, he’s a pampered fool, which (in theory) would make this a reversal of the traditional Disney Princess story. Make no mistake, it is specifically riffing on Disney, as we see a Middle-Eastern lady wearing the same outfit as Jasmine, a bookworm with the same clothes as Belle, a red-haired fishmonger who poses like Arielle, and more. Here’s the thing. Disney hasn’t made movies like the ones Charming is poking fun at since 1995. In the meantime, we’ve had Moana, Elsa, Vaneloppe, and other princesses that are anything but damsels in distress. The studio itself has made fun of its supposedly powerless female leads so often it's getting old. Why's this movie only making these jokes now?
Charming indulges in the same cliches it’s supposedly satirizing. The film has an all-but-useless animal sidekick for Lenore, the leads fall in love within a matter of days, the villain is an afterthought, Charming’s mother is dead (this might’ve been to avoid any weird incestuous questions), the hero has a fairy godmother that shows up in one scene and then never does anything else, and more. It’s like the gags aimed at the classic stories were included when they realized they were copying those same movies in an attempt to make themselves look better.
Looking at the cast, you might notice a trend. Most of the voice actors are not actors at all, they’re singers. Are the lackluster performances counterbalanced by sweet tunes? Certainly with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump involved, there’s hope, right? Well, yes. The songs are well performed, but they’re also useless. Rather than drive the plot forward or include exposition, the tunes are the musical equivalent of junk food. In most musicals, you look forward to the end credits so you can hear the best number one more time. In Charming, the final reprise only allows you to remember the “best” piece long enough to last until the final name scrolls off the screen. An hour after the movie a wicked stepmother could threaten to turn you to stone unless you recite three lines in a row and you wouldn’t be able to.
The only good thing about Charming is that it is so flawed, and it does so many things wrong anyone watching should be able to find a reason to dislike it. Could be the irritating characters, lame gags, unpleasant-looking character designs, afterthought of the villain, or what is without a doubt the weakest mix-up leading to a breakup I’ve ever seen. Charming so aptly proves you can’t break the rules without first knowing them film courses should consider including it in their curriculum. (May 28, 2021)

wrote some angst that i don’t like but i’m posting it anyways lol
Triggers: Death, toxic relationship, cursing, alcohol
Three videos were already finished today. Two more to go. Demon Days has been a breeze and you spent most of your time sitting on the couch browsing the internet. In other words, this album was a pain in the ass for the band. Mostly because of the money.
About three or four million dollars went into that floating island, Murdoc had said before shooting the music video for 'Feel Good Inc.,' watching you look outside the large windows and to the island before you. Smiling, you watched Noodle appear from inside of the windmill, watching the sky as it slowly drifted into clear white clouds.
"How long will Noodle be out there?" You asked Murdoc, glancing over to the sight of him stripping his shirt. He scoffed softly.
"Not long," he sucked air through his nose. "A few minutes at most. Well, until we shoot El Mañana. She'll be fine, if you're wondering. That island is more sturdy than the entirety of London, love. Nothing, and I mean nothing, can destroy that sodding island." He growled watching Stuart trip over the bodies then added, "Hate that thing."
"Costed a lot of money," you agreed. "Must've cut a lot into savings. Don't blame ya for hating it."
Murdoc suddenly clapped his hands together, signalling the beginning of shooting before roaring. "Alright, peeps! Get rrready, because we are going to rock this one, I'm sure of it. Dove?" He questioned, smiling as he pointed to a certain spot for you to sit during the video. One where you'd be noticed, but would mostly blend into the crowd of the other women. He swore he'd hump you more than the others.
Shooting started. It ended before you even knew it. Next was El Mañana, a song by personal opinion, didn't even make sense. However, you could piece together that it is a melancholy love song and would sound the same. You didn't want to be too harsh on Noodle, for she is only fifteen years old and this was her first attempt at writing any form of music.
You stood outside this time, right of the island. It floats a few good miles away, but close enough to which you could see the action. Murdoc seemed particularly excited about this video, though you had no idea why. You guessed it was because of the beautiful scenery, but you should've known better.
You closed your eyes for five seconds. Then, screaming. Your mind was dazed, only hearing Russels terrified cries, then Stuarts. Murdoc stayed silent, watching the scene play out before him with a wicked smirk on his face. You grabbed his shoulder as you noticed the scene before you, screaming out for him to react, emote, anything, but nothing. How distasteful, you thought as you watched his smirk attempt to tug into a frown, failing in the long run. He doesn't even care if she dies, you grimace.
"Do something! She's gonna die, Mudz!" You screamed, slapping his shoulder. "Only you can stop this!"
You could see the smoke from the windmill reflected in his eyes. Noodle was nowhere to be found. Recording had halted and the music has finished, the only feeling now was dread and anger. Russel and Stuart watched Murdocs every move from the corners of their eyes, deep frowns on their faces while tears pricked in Stuarts eyes. You were speechless.
"So," you began. "This whole video. This four million dollar project, all for the death of an innocent child? She was fifteen, Murdoc. Fifteen!" You yelled, looking at the back of his head. "A fifteen year old child that saw you as their fucking father figure, and you kill her? Watch her die?"
Murdoc snapped, turning around and appearing in front of your face, snarling his unusually sharp teeth. "She's NOT dead, you fucking idiot. I gave her a parachute to jump off with. She's fine I swear of it! I would never kill my Noodle. Never."
He stormed out towards the wreckage, determined to find his Noodle just so he could prove you wrong and show that he truly did care about her safety. While stomping over to the smoke, he deeply regretted calling you an idiot. He knows how much you dwell on those insults and how your mental and physical health suffers from a lack of self esteem. He really needs to watch what he says, and puts a bullet point into his brain to remember that.
Making it to the wreckage, he begins to search. However, he finds nothing but a few strands of her hair and some blood, a sure tell sign that Noodle was most likely dead. He was destroyed, sticking a finger to the sky as tears threatened to fall from his face for the first time in ten years, and cursed God and Satan for the loss of his little girl before walking into Kong and grabbing the largest and strongest bottle of alcohol.
You didn't hear the door open, but you were zoned out anyhow, watching The Spongebob Movie on the flatscreen. You had no emotion, for you had no energy to even form the words or even thoughts on what had happened not an hour earlier. You were forced out of your daze by a drunken cough.
"Dead," Murdoc slurred, taking another swig of your cherry flavoured Vodka. "Noodle's dead. Couldn't find 'er. I-I'm sorry Dove," he struggled. "I'm sorry fa' failin' ya," he breathed heavily, sucking in tons of air before sucking in his lips and smirking. "However, good ol' Jimmy Manson never saw that coming! That ol' knobjockey is laying dead in the windmill. I checked."
You sucked in your bottom lip to keep it from quivering, and breathed in air from your nose before exhaling loudly. Of course he'd only care about what affects him money wise, you were such an idiot for thinking any different. You thought he actually cared about you when in reality, money was all he cared about. How dare you fall for men who slowly turn green and have god complexes.
"You should probably go tell the others," you managed before zoning back in to the Hillbilly scene from the Spongebob Movie, where the Hillbillies laugh at Spongebob and Patrick for attempting to pass the County Line.
"Yer right," Murdoc replied, nodding his head. "Better to break the news to em' immediately, huh? Especially ol' Russel. Probably already knows though."
"You're acting unreasonably calm about all this," you butt in, catching him by surprise as he scoffs and rolls his eyes.
"So are you. You're watching a damn kids movie. For kids. Made for kids. Are you a fucking child?" So he was acting this way, now. You sigh and steal a glance at him. He's waiting for a response, his eyes narrowed and eyebrows furrowed in anger as his mismatched eyes watch your whole form.
"I'll tell you what," he blurts. "Mind your own damn business and keep your nose up your ass. I like you better when you have no clue what's going on, all stupid and naive. You should know your place underneath your God," he brags, laughing.
You can't even find the motivation to say anything, but you know how you feel. You shouldn't have said anything. Now you've made things worse and it's all your fault.
Before you had even realised, you were in front of Murdoc, a deep frown on your features. There's tears running down your face and your lip quivers uncontrollably. Something tells you that you don't quite have any control over your feelings right now.
"Why don't I just leave, then?" You spat, making sure the spit hits his face. "You won't have to worry about stupid, naive, little ol' me, now will you? You can finally live life the way you want to." You watch his face carefully as it shifts into many different emotions at once, the main two being confusion and sadness, perhaps some anger is in the mix but you didn't care. Not after what he did.
"You don't even have to say anything," you said just as he began to open his mouth. "There's no way I could forgive you for what you've done today. How dare you believe this whole shitshow was for more money, when you killed the girl that was basically your daughter! You make me sick," you growled, watching his face contort into what you know as sadness. It almost makes you feel bad, but you know better than to believe any emotions he puts on his face right now.
Saying nothing, you sprint upstairs to collect your things from his room. Once the door had opened, you knew you were going to miss the smell of his musk. The smell of new and old guitars and cleaning oil. You were going to miss all of it, but nothing was more important than Noodle. Now she's gone. You will not be coming back from this, you tell yourself. However, you know that's probably a lie. Murdoc always finds a way to wiggle you back into his devilish grasp no matter how hard you try to distance yourself. All you can do is try, try to keep your word.
Bag in hand, you rush down the stairs. Murdoc is now leaning on the counter, his shoulders shaking and leg jumping. He's crying, but you can't even bring yourself to comfort him. He's broken, but you can't find the motivation to pick up the pieces. Not after today.
"I'm going home. My real home. With my dog in London. Don't try to contact me, I'm removing you from all of my contacts. It seems to be for the better," you solemnly tell him as you open the door and grab the keys to your 2000's jeep, nervously picking at the keys and jangling them around. You wait for a response but he just looks at you, his red eye booming with the pink due to crying. He does nothing but nod, and waves curtly before you shut the door and walk the stone pathway to the garage.
You watch the zombie gorillas as they march, their regular day-to-day routine before realising how much you'll miss this place and the people you met here. You never even told 2D or Russel goodbye, for you were too tired and angry to even think about it. You'll be sure to text them later and call Stuart.
You sigh as you start the ignition. Seven years of complete bullshit, only for it to end in melancholy and death. You wish that you had never met him in that bar. None of this would've happened. All you can do now is try move on, forget this never happened. Forget those you learned to love. Forget those who you loved and watched die.

You can’t just leave bait like that in the tags. Please hurt us with your Rían headcanons. My biggest question is, why leave her son with elves instead of back home? Iirc there weren’t any women of the green elves, it just seems like an odd choice.
Oh boy. I can’t say it wasn’t sort of bait to say “I have sad headcanons” but Boy I Have Sad Headcanons.
I’m going to start by saying that I think of the three Edainic women of that generation who we really know anything about (Rían, Morwen, Aerin) she was the least psychologically resilient and the most head-in-the-clouds. She was quiet but witty, and had a delightfully wicked sense of humor, and she was absolutely enamored with Huor because he was very much a dreamer and not a solider. She loved songs and poetry and sewing and heroic legends, and she hoped her children would live to see a happier world.
And then the Nirnaeth happened, and there was no news from her husband, and she was married two months and already pregnant, and her home was invaded by people who took out their anger at being pawns of Morgoth on her and her folk. And Lorgan, frankly, is not a nice man, and we know he was very happy to enslave her son, and that Brodda was all too happy to forcibly wed Aerin regardless of how she felt about the matter. We don’t know canonically when Rían left, or if there was an inciting incident that caused her to leave beyond her husband’s absence - after all, Morwen was also pregnant, and they might have sought to escape together. I have thoughts about the situation she was trapped in, as the pregnant and vulnerable wife of the dead lord faced with angry and impotent and somewhat sadistic usurpers, but I think it’s important to say that very little can be argued, or suggested.
But, essentially, I think Rían was completely destroyed by all of this happening at once, and especially by the fact that she had no idea if Huor was alive or dead because everyone who might have brought news was either dead or sent to Angband themselves. When she fled into the wilds, it was both in search of her lord husband and in search of an escape from the hell that her life had turned into - she was coping with a massive mental breakdown that had well and truly sent her into some kind of dissociative episode, and by the time she found Annael she was a mess and the only anchor point she could think of was Huor, and she had to know what happened to him. You’re right that we’re not told there were ellyth with Annael, but I imagine there would have had to be, only because Rían leaving after Tuor is born (and against advice, but not against the statement “We have no wet nurses”) means he would need something to live on, you know?
But. I think she left her son with them because she was in an advanced state of psychological distress that would, in modern times, have earned her a stay in an inpatient facility. I think that she can safely be said to have been far from any kind of wise mind, with her coping mechanisms and support system gone, and as a result she made the choices she made with limited ability to cope with them and with the realities of her situation. I also think this as a disabled autistic person, who has always seen herself in “mad women”, and so I have no real patience for gross arguments about Women Being Crazy, and I’m not playing this for laughs, or to demean her. I think she should have had a better life, but also, that she was loved, and supported, and her family would have killed anybody who tried to argue that her illness and disability made her Lesser. (There would have been a five-way fight for Who Gets To Punch The Guy Who Said That, let’s be real, lol.)

A heart of humility holds the most beauty
because it is illuminated with eternal Light
Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 17th chapter of the book of John that contains a prayer:
This is what Jesus prayed as he looked up into heaven,
“Father, the time has come.
Unveil the glorious splendor of your Son
so that I will magnify your glory!
You have already given me authority
over all people so that I may give
the gift of eternal life to all those that you have given to me.
Eternal life means to know and experience you
as the only true God,
and to know and experience Jesus Christ,
as the Son whom you have sent.
I have glorified you on the earth
by faithfully doing everything you’ve told me to do.
So my Father, restore me back to the glory
that we shared together when we were face-to-face
before the universe was created.”
“Father, I have manifested who you really are
and I have revealed you to the men and women
that you gave to me.
They were yours, and you gave them to me,
and they have fastened your Word firmly to their hearts.
And now at last they know that everything I have is a gift from you,
And the very words you gave to me to speak
I have passed on to them.
They have received your words
and carry them in their hearts.
They are convinced that I have come from your presence,
and they have fully believed that you sent me to represent you.
So with deep love, I pray for my disciples.
I’m not asking on behalf of the unbelieving world,
but for those who belong to you,
those you have given me.
For all who belong to me now belong to you.
And all who belong to you now belong to me as well,
and my glory is revealed through their surrendered lives.
“Holy Father, I am about to leave this world
to return and be with you,
but my disciples will remain here.
Holy Father, each one that you have given me,
keep them in your name so that they will be united
as one, even as we are one.
While I was with these that you have given me,
I was guarding them and keeping them in your name.
Not one of them is lost,
except the one that was destined to be lost,
so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.
“But now I am returning to you so Father,
I pray that they will experience
and enter into my joyous delight in you
so that it is fulfilled in them and overflows.
I have given them your message
and that is why the unbelieving world hates them.
For their allegiance is no longer to this world
because I am not of this world.
I am not asking that you remove them from the world,
but I ask that you guard their hearts from evil,
For they no longer belong to this world any more than I do.
“Your Word is truth! So make them holy by the truth.
I have commissioned them to represent me
just as you commissioned me to represent you.
And now I dedicate myself to them as a holy sacrifice
so that they will live as fully dedicated to God
and be made holy by your truth.”
“And I ask not only for these disciples,
but also for all those who will one day
believe in me through their message.
I pray for them all to be joined together as one
even as you and I, Father, are joined together as one.
I pray for them to become one with us
so that the world will recognize that you sent me.
For the very glory you have given to me I have given them
so that they will be joined together as one
and experience the same unity that we enjoy.
You live fully in me and now I live fully in them
so that they will experience perfect unity,
and the world will be convinced that you have sent me,
for they will see that you love each one of them
with the same passionate love that you have for me.
“Father, I ask that you allow everyone that you have given to me
to be with me where I am!
Then they will see my full glory—
the very splendor you have placed upon me
because you have loved me even before the beginning of time.
“You are my righteous Father,
but the unbelieving world has never known you
in the perfect way that I know you!
And all those who believe in me
also know that you have sent me!
I have revealed to them who you are
and I will continue to make you even more real to them,
so that they may experience the same endless love
that you have for me,
for your love will now live in them, even as I live in them!”
The Book of John, Chapter 17 (The Passion Translation)
Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 7th chapter of the book of Ecclesiastes:
Teacher: A good name is worth more than the finest perfume,
and the day you die is better than the day you were born.
In the same way, it is better to go to a funeral
than a celebration.
Why? because death is the end of life’s journey,
and the living should always take that to heart.
Sorrow beats foolish laughter;
embracing sadness somehow gladdens our hearts.
A wise heart is well acquainted with grief,
but a foolish heart seeks only pleasure’s company.
It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise
than a song written by fools,
For the laughter of fools is like
the hiss and crackle of burning thorns beneath a pot.
This, too, is fleeting.
Oppression can turn the wise into fools,
and a bribe can damage the noblest heart.
Having the last word is better than having the first,
and patience will benefit you more than pride.
Do not be quick to anger,
for anger sits comfortably in the lap of fools.
Do not ask, “Where have all the good times gone?”
Wisdom knows better than to ask such a thing.
It is good to have wisdom along with an inheritance;
they give a clear advantage to those who see the sun.
For together wisdom and money are alike in this:
both offer protection from life’s misfortunes,
But the real advantage of knowledge is this:
wisdom alone preserves the lives of those who have it.
Think for a moment about the work of God.
Can anyone make straight what God has made crooked?
Teacher: When times are good,
enjoy them and be happy.
When times are bad,
think about this:
God makes both good and bad times,
so that no one really knows what is coming next.
In the fleeting time I have lived on this earth, I have seen just about everything: the good dying in their goodness and the wicked living to a ripe old age. So my advice? Do not act overly righteous, and do not think yourself wiser than others. Why go and ruin yourself? But do not be too wicked or foolish either. Why die before it’s your time? Grasp both sides of things and keep the two in balance; for anyone who fears God won’t give in to the extremes.
Wisdom is more powerful to a wise person than 10 rulers in a city.
There is not a righteous person on earth who always does good and never sins.
Don’t take to heart all that people say;
eventually you may hear your servant curse you.
And face it, your heart has overheard how often you’ve cursed others.
I have tested all of these sayings against wisdom. I promised myself, “I will become wise,” but wisdom kept its distance. True wisdom remains elusive; its profound mysteries are remote. Who can discover it?
So I turned and dedicated my heart to knowing more, to digging deeper, to searching harder for wisdom and the reasons things are as they are. I applied myself to understanding the connection between wickedness and folly, between folly and madness. Along this journey, I discovered something more bitter than death—a seductive woman. Her heart is a trap and net. Her hands shackle your wrists. Those who seek to please God will escape her clutches, but sinners will be caught in her trap. Look at this! After investigating the matter thoroughly to find out why things are as they are, I realize that although I kept on searching, I have not found what I am looking for. Only one man in a thousand have I found, but I could not find a single woman among all of these who knows this. Here is what I have figured out: God made humanity for good, but we humans go out and scheme our way into trouble.
The Book of Ecclesiastes, Chapter 7 (The Voice)
my personal reading of the Scriptures for Wednesday, may 26 of 2021 with a paired chapter from each Testament of the Bible along with Today’s Proverbs and Psalms
A post by John Parsons about the beautiful simplicity of coming to “believe...”
As followers of Yeshua, we must be "theocratic" in our focus, as our Lord himself was. He taught us to pray: "Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven" (Matt. 6:10). The kingdom of God (מלכות האלהים) rules in the hearts of Messiah's true followers, and those who espouse anarchy (ἀνομία) adhere to the devil's doctrine ("do what thou wilt"). God's curse is on all those who seek to eat from the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil," that is, those who define good and evil in their own terms, disregarding the revelation of Torah, and who desire to do only what they think is right "in their own eyes." In the end, every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess the truth about Reality, friends... That day is coming soon.
In order to say, "thy kingdom come, thy will be done" we must let go of our own agenda; our ego must be deposed from its petty little kingdom... Likewise, we can't say, "Come, Lord Jesus" by putting our fear first, or by otherwise demanding that our life should center on our own personal "advent." No, you must consciously choose to live in exile to this world (Gal. 6:14). How can we ever expect the LORD to live out His life through us if we do not genuinely offer our lives to Him? And yet this is exactly the problem of the ego...
A principle of spiritual life is that we descend in order to ascend, or the "the way up is the way down." As Yeshua said, "Whoever would be first among you must be slave of all" (Mark 10:44). Becoming nothing (i.e., ayin) in this world is the condition for seeing something in the world to come. But we become nothing by trusting in the miracle, not by trying to efface ourselves... This is not another venture of the ego. Life in the Spirit means trusting that God will do within you what you cannot do for yourself... We can only take hold of what God has done for us by "letting go" of our own devices (Phil. 2:13). When we really let go and trust, we will become nothing (i.e., klume: כְּלוּם), carried by the Torah of the Spirit of life. The way is not trying but trusting; not struggling but resting; not of clinging to life, but of letting go...
This is another example of the difficulty of honestly trusting God for the miracle, of genuinely receiving the miracle... Some people scorn the idea of "easy believism," though of course there is nothing at all "easy" about exercising true faith in the LORD and living the truth in our lives. We need the miracle; we need grace from heaven to impart real passion for us to walk according to God's heart. Amen. [Hebrew for Christians]

Today’s message (Days of Praise) from the Institute for Creation Research
May 26, 2021
Jesus Is the Savior
“But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” (2 Timothy 1:10)
For centuries, the message of the gospel was presented in drama through the sacrificial system instituted through Moses. Obviously, Moses did not invent the concept of an innocent blood sacrifice. God Himself performed the initial “atonement” when He made coverings for Adam and Eve with the skins of animals that the Creator Himself killed and prepared for them (Genesis 3:21).
Abel brought the “more excellent sacrifice,” but Cain tried “another gospel” and was rejected (Genesis 4:3-5). After the Flood, “Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar” (Genesis 8:20). Abraham and Jacob offered animal sacrifices to the Lord in recognition of their subservience to Him and in obedience to the instructions they were given (Genesis 12:7; 46:1).
When Moses received the law from the hand of God on Mount Sinai, the entire system of sacrifices was centered around a male “lamb without blemish” (Leviticus 1:10; 23:12). This was the Passover Lamb that became the symbol of God’s deliverance of the Israelites out of Egypt (Exodus 12:21) and was directly applied to the Lord Jesus as “our passover” who was “sacrificed for us” (1 Corinthians 5:7).
Of all the names given to the Lord Jesus, it is the Lamb title that stands out so strongly when referencing the sacrifice He made. John the Baptist called out, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29), and it is the “Lamb that was slain” who is worthy to “receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing” (Revelation 5:12). Today’s reading from the ancient book of Proverbs and book of Psalms
for may 26 of 2021 with Proverbs 26 and Psalm 26, accompanied by Psalm 68 for the 68th day of Spring and Psalm 146 for day 146 of the year
Like snow in the summer and rain in the time of harvest,
so honor is never fitting for a fool.
Like a bird that flits and flutters or a swallow in mid-flight,
so a curse that lacks cause will never come to light.
A whip is for the horse, a bridle is for the donkey,
and a rod is for the fool’s back.
Never answer a fool on his own foolish terms,
or you will become like him;
Rather, answer a fool on his own foolish terms,
or he will become wise in his own eyes.
Like someone who cuts off his feet or drinks to his ruin,
so is the one who uses a fool to pass on his message.
As lame legs are useless, dangling on the crippled,
so is a proverb in the mouth of a fool.
Like one who ties a stone in his slingshot,
so is one who honors a fool.
Like a thorn in the hand of a drunkard,
so is a proverb in the mouth of a fool.
Like an archer who shoots at random and injures everyone,
so is a person who hires a fool or someone off the street.
Like a dog who goes back to his own vomit,
so is a fool who always returns to his foolishness.
Have you seen a person who is wise in his own sight?
Know that there is more hope for a fool than for him.
A lazy person says, “There’s a lion in the road!
A lion in the streets!
Another good reason to stay in today.”
As a door swings on its hinges and goes nowhere,
so a slacker turns over in his bed.
Some people are so lazy that they reach for food on the plate
but lack the will to bring it up to their mouths.
The slacker sees himself as wiser by far
than seven men who can converse intelligently.
Like a man who seizes a wild dog by the ears,
so is anyone who walks by and meddles in someone else’s argument.
Like a madman who hurls flaming spears and shoots deadly arrows,
So is anyone who deceives a neighbor
and then says, “But I was only joking with you.”
When there is no wood, the fire goes out;
when there is no one to spread gossip, arguing stops.
Like charcoal to smoldering embers and dry wood to a fire,
so a hot-tempered man kindles strife.
Whispered gossip is like a delicious first course:
it is devoured with pleasure and then penetrates deep within you.
Like a shiny glaze coating a rough clay pot,
so are burning lips that conceal an evil heart.
One who hates may camouflage it beneath pleasant words,
but deep inside him, treachery still rages;
Don’t believe him when he speaks kindly
because his heart is completely ruled by evil.
And though he covers his hatred with cleverness,
his wicked ways will be publicly exposed.
The one who digs a trap for another will fall into it,
and the one who starts rolling a stone will have it roll back over him.
Liars take no pity on those they crush with their lies,
and flattery spoils everyone it touches.
The Book of Proverbs, Chapter 26 (The Voice)
A song of David.
Declare my innocence, O Eternal One!
I have walked blamelessly down this path.
I placed my trust in the Eternal and have yet to stumble.
Put me on trial and examine me, O Eternal One!
Search me through and through—from my deepest longings to every thought that crosses my mind.
Your unfailing love is always before me;
I have journeyed down Your path of truth.
My life is not wasted among liars;
my days are not spent among cheaters.
I despise every crowd intent on evil;
I do not commune with the wicked.
I wash my hands in the fountain of innocence
so that I might join the gathering that surrounds Your altar, O Eternal One.
From my soul, I will join the songs of thanksgiving;
I will sing and proclaim Your wonder and mystery.
Your house, home to Your glory, O Eternal One, radiates its light.
I am fixed on this place and long to be nowhere else.
When Your wrath pursues those who oppose You,
those swift to sin and thirsty for blood,
spare my soul and grant me life.
These men hold deceit in their left hands,
and in their right hands, bribery and lies.
But God, I have walked blamelessly down this path,
and this is my plea for redemption.
This is my cry for Your mercy.
Here I stand secure and confident
before all the people; I will praise the Eternal.
The Book of Psalms, Poem 26 (The Voice)
For the worship leader. A song of David.
May the True God rise up and show Himself;
may those who are united against Him be dispersed,
while the people who hate Him run away at the sight of Him.
As smoke disappears when it is blown by the wind,
may You blow away Your enemies forever.
As wax melts in the presence of fire,
may the wicked heart melt away in God’s presence.
But may those who are righteous rejoice
in the presence of the True God—so may they be glad and rejoice.
Yes, let them celebrate with joy!
Sing songs of praise to the name that belongs to the True God!
Let your voices ring out in songs of praise to Him, the One who rides through the deserted places.
His name is the Eternal;
celebrate in His glorious presence.
The True God who inhabits sacred space
is a father to the fatherless, a defender of widows.
He makes a home for those who are alone.
He frees the prisoners and leads them to prosper.
Yet those who rebel against Him live in the barren land without His blessings and prosperity.
O True God, when You led Your enslaved people from Egypt,
when You journeyed with us through the wilderness,
The whole world trembled! The sky poured down rain
at the power of Your presence; even Mount Sinai trembled in Your presence,
the presence of the True God, the God of Israel.
You sent a heavy downpour to soak the ground, O True God.
You refreshed the land—the land Your people would inherit—when it was parched and dry.
Your covenant people made their homes in the land,
and because You are so good, You provided for those crushed by poverty, O True God.
The Lord gives the word;
there are very many women ready to tell the good news:
“Kings who lead the armies are on the run!
They are on the run!
And the woman who stays at home is ready, too,
ready to enjoy the treasures that they’ve left behind!”
When they lay down among the campfires and open the saddlebags, imagine what they’ll find—
a beautiful dove, its wings covered with silver,
its feathers a shimmering gold.
When the Almighty scattered the kings from that place,
it was snowing in Zalmon.
O Mount Bashan, you mighty mountain of the True God;
mountain of many peaks, O Mount Bashan.
Why are you so jealous, O mountain of many peaks,
when you look at the mountain the True God has chosen as His dwelling place?
The Eternal will surely abide on Mount Zion forever.
The chariots of God are innumerable;
there are thousands upon thousands of them.
The Lord is in their midst, just as He was at Mount Sinai.
He has come into the holy place.
When You ascended the sacred mountain,
with Your prisoners in tow, Your captives in chains,
You sat in triumph receiving gifts from men,
Even from those who rebel against You, so that You, the Eternal God, might take up residence there.
Blessed be the Lord
who carries our heavy loads every day,
the True God who is our salvation.
We know our God is the God who delivers us,
and the Eternal, the Lord, is the One who saves us from the grip of death.
The True God will certainly shatter the skulls of those who oppose Him;
He’ll smash the hairy head of the man who continues on his sinful ways.
The Lord said,
“I will bring the enemy back from Bashan.
I will bring them back from the deepest parts of the sea,
So that you may plant your feet in their blood
and your dogs may lick up their portion of the foe.”
The solemn march in Your honor, O True God, has come into view;
the march that celebrates my God, my King, has come into the sanctuary.
The singers went first, and the musicians came last
between rows of girls who played tambourines.
Come, let us gather to bless the True God
and to praise the Eternal, He who is the fountain of Israel, the source of our life!
Look! There are the rulers of Benjamin, the youngest in the lead.
A great crowd follows
The princes of Judah,
the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.
[Your God is the One who has given you strength];
show Your power, O True God, as You have done for us.
Because of Your magnificent temple in Jerusalem,
many kings will line up to bring You gifts.
Reprimand the beasts in the tall grass,
the herds of bulls that are with the people’s calves,
Trampling over the pieces of silver.
He has driven out the people who love to be at war.
Ambassadors will come from Egypt;
the people of Ethiopia will reach out their hands to the one True God.
Let all the kingdoms of the earth sing to the True God.
Sing songs of praise to the Lord.
To Him who rides high up beyond the heavens, which have been since ancient times,
watch and listen. His voice speaks, and it is powerful and strong.
Attribute power to the one True God;
His royal splendor is evident over Israel,
and His power courses through the clouds.
O True God, You are awesome from the holy place where You dwell.
The True God of Israel Himself
grants strength and power to His people.
Blessed be our God!
The Book of Psalms, Poem 68 (The Voice)
along with these lines:
On that day that Shaddai scattered the kings,
snow fell on Black Mountain.
You huge mountains, Bashan mountains,
mighty mountains, dragon mountains.
All you mountains not chosen,
sulk now, and feel sorry for yourselves,
For this is the mountain God has chosen to live on;
he’ll rule from this mountain forever.
The Book of Psalms, Poem 68:14-16 (The Message)
Our True Help
A poetic psalm by Haggai and Zechariah
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
My innermost being will praise you, Lord!
I will spend my life praising you and
singing high praises to you, my God, every day of my life!
We can never look to men for help;
no matter who they are, they can’t save us,
for even our great leaders fail and fall.
They too are just mortals who will one day die.
At death the spirits of all depart and their bodies return to dust.
In the day of their death all their projects and plans are over.
But those who hope in the Lord will be happy and pleased!
Our help comes from the God of Jacob!
You keep all your promises.
You are the Creator of heaven’s glory,
earth’s grandeur, and the ocean’s greatness.
The oppressed get justice with you.
The hungry are satisfied with you.
Prisoners find their freedom with you.
You open the eyes of the blind,
and you fully restore those bent over with shame.
You love those who love and honor you.
You watch over strangers and immigrants
and support the fatherless and widows.
But you subvert the plans of the ungodly.
Lord, you will reign forever!
Zion’s God will rule throughout time and eternity!
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
The Book of Psalms, Poem 146 (The Passion Translation)
Today’s reading from the ancient book of Proverbs and book of Psalms
for may 24 of 2021 with Proverbs 24 and Psalm 24, accompanied by Psalm 66 for the 66th day of Spring and Psalm 144 for day 144 of the year
Don’t envy the wealth of the wicked or crave their company.
For they’re obsessed with causing trouble
and their conversations are corrupt.
Wise people are builders—
they build families, businesses, communities.
And through intelligence and insight
their enterprises are established and endure.
Because of their skilled leadership,
the hearts of people are filled with the treasures of wisdom
and the pleasures of spiritual wealth.
Wisdom can make anyone into a mighty warrior,
and revelation-knowledge increases strength.
Wise strategy is necessary to wage war,
and with many astute advisers
you’ll see the path to victory more clearly.
Wisdom is a treasure too lofty for a quarreling fool—
he’ll have nothing to say when leaders gather together.
There is one who makes plans to do evil—
Master Schemer is his name.
If you plan to do evil, it’s as wrong as doing it.
And everyone detests a troublemaker.
If you faint when under pressure,
you have need of courage.
Go and rescue the perishing! Be their savior!
Why would you stand back and watch them stagger to their death?
And why would you say, “But it’s none of my business”?
The one who knows you completely and judges your every motive
is also the keeper of souls—and not just yours!
He sees through your excuses and holds you responsible
for failing to help those whose lives are threatened.
Revelation-knowledge is a delicacy,
sweet like flowing honey that melts in your mouth.
Eat as much of it as you can, my friend!
For then you will perceive what is true wisdom,
your future will be bright,
and this hope living within you will never disappoint you.
Listen up, you wicked, irreverent ones—
don’t harass the lovers of God
and don’t invade their resting place.
For the lovers of God may suffer adversity
and stumble seven times,
but they will continue to rise over and over again.
But the unrighteous are brought down by just one calamity
and will never be able to rise again.
Never gloat when your enemy meets disaster,
and don’t be quick to rejoice if he falls.
For the Lord, who sees your heart,
will be displeased with you and will pity your foe.
Don’t be angrily offended over evildoers or be agitated by them.
For the wicked have no life and no future—
their light of life will die out.
My child, stand in awe of Yahweh!
Give counsel to others,
but don’t mingle with those who are rebellious.
For sudden destruction will fall upon them
and their lives will be ruined in a moment.
And who knows what retribution they will face!
[Revelation from the Wise]
Those enlightened with wisdom have spoken these proverbs:
Judgment must be impartial,
for it is always wrong to be swayed by a person’s status.
If you say to the guilty, “You are innocent,”
the nation will curse you and the people will revile you.
But when you convict the guilty,
the people will thank you and reward you with favor.
Speaking honestly is a sign of true friendship.
Go ahead, build your career and give yourself to your work.
But if you put me first, you’ll see your family built up!
Why would you be a false accuser and slander with your words?
Don’t ever spitefully say, “I’ll get even with him!
I’ll do to him what he did to me!”
One day I passed by the field of a lazy man,
and I noticed the vineyards of a slacker.
I observed nothing but thorns, weeds, and broken-down walls.
So I considered their lack of wisdom,
and I pondered the lessons I could learn from this:
Professional work habits prevent poverty from becoming
your permanent business partner. And:
If you put off until tomorrow the work you could do today,
tomorrow never seems to come.
The Book of Proverbs, Chapter 24 (The Passion Translation)
A song of David.
The earth and all that’s upon it belong to the Eternal.
The world is His, with every living creature on it.
With seas as foundations and rivers as boundaries,
He shaped the continents, fashioned the earth.
Who can possibly ascend the mountain of the Eternal?
Who can stand before Him in sacred spaces?
Only those whose hands have been washed and hearts made pure,
men and women who are not given to lies or deception.
The Eternal will stand close to them with blessing and mercy at hand,
and the God who redeems will right what has been wrong.
These are the people who chase after Him;
[like Jacob, they look for the face of God].
City gates—open wide!
Ancient doors—stand back!
For the glorious King shall soon pass your way.
Who is the glorious King?
The Eternal who is powerful
and mightily equipped for battle.
City gates—open wide!
Ancient doors—stand back!
For the glorious King shall soon pass your way.
Who is the glorious King?
The Eternal, Commander of heaven’s army,
He is the glorious King.
The Book of Psalms, Poem 24 (The Voice)
Thank You, Lord
For the Pure and Shining One
A song of awakening
Everyone everywhere, lift up your joyful shout to God!
Sing your songs tuned to his glory!
Tell the world how wonderful he is.
For he’s the awe-inspiring God, great and glorious in power!
We’ve never seen anything like him!
Mighty in miracles, you cause your enemies to tremble.
No wonder they all surrender and bow before you!
All the earth will bow down to worship;
all the earth will sing your glories forever!
Pause in his presence
Everyone will say, “Come and see the incredible things God has done;
it will take your breath away!
He multiplies miracles for his people!”
He made a highway going right through the Red Sea
as the Hebrews passed through on dry ground,
exploding with joyous excitement over the miracles of God.
In his great and mighty power he rules forever,
watching over every movement of every nation.
So beware, rebel lands; he knows how to humble you!
Pause in his presence
Praise God, all you peoples.
Praise him everywhere and let everyone know you love him!
There’s no doubt about it: God holds our lives safely in his hands.
He’s the one who keeps us faithfully following him.
O Lord, we have passed through your fire;
like precious metal made pure,
you’ve proved us, perfected us, and made us holy.
You’ve captured us, ensnared us in your net.
Then, like prisoners, you placed chains around our necks.
You’ve allowed our enemies to prevail against us.
We’ve passed through fire and flood,
yet in the end you always bring us out better than we were before,
saturated with your goodness.
I come before your presence with my sacrifice.
I’ll give you all that I’ve promised, everything I have.
When I was overcome in my anguish,
I promised to give you my sacrifice.
Here it is! All that I said I would offer you is yours.
I’ll throw it all—the best I have to bring—into the fire
as the fragrance of my sacrifice ascends unto you.
Pause in his presence
All you lovers of God who want to please him,
come and listen, and I’ll tell you what he did for me.
I cried aloud to him with all my heart, and he answered me!
Now my mouth overflows with the highest praise.
Yet if I had closed my eyes to my sin,
the Lord God would have closed his ears to my prayer.
But praises rise to God,
for he paid attention to my prayer and answered my cry to him!
I will forever praise this God who didn’t close his heart when I prayed
and never said no when I asked him for help.
He never once refused to show me his tender love.
The Book of Psalms, Poem 66 (The Passion Translation)
Blessed be God, my mountain,
who trains me to fight fair and well.
He’s the bedrock on which I stand,
the castle in which I live,
my rescuing knight,
The high crag where I run for dear life,
while he lays my enemies low.
I wonder why you care, God—
why do you bother with us at all?
All we are is a puff of air;
we’re like shadows in a campfire.
Step down out of heaven, God;
ignite volcanoes in the hearts of the mountains.
Hurl your lightnings in every direction;
shoot your arrows this way and that.
Reach all the way from sky to sea:
pull me out of the ocean of hate,
out of the grip of those barbarians
Who lie through their teeth,
who shake your hand
then knife you in the back.
O God, let me sing a new song to you,
let me play it on a twelve-string guitar—
A song to the God who saved the king,
the God who rescued David, his servant.
Rescue me from the enemy sword,
release me from the grip of those barbarians
Who lie through their teeth,
who shake your hand
then knife you in the back.
Make our sons in their prime
like sturdy oak trees,
Our daughters as shapely and bright
as fields of wildflowers.
Fill our barns with great harvest,
fill our fields with huge flocks;
Protect us from invasion and exile—
eliminate the crime in our streets.
How blessed the people who have all this!
How blessed the people who have God for God!

tōru just wants to take you shopping !
Tōru-nii was bragging to you and Hajime on your walk home from school. It was a normal thing the three of you did, and a normal thing for Tōru to babble and Hajime slapping him.
“Shittykawa, no one cares!” He slapped the back of his head, hard. The other boy clutched it, and looked towards you with a pouty face.
“Imōto-san,” Tōru whined, walking closer to you and grabbing your hand, intertwining it with his. “Are you even listening to me?”
“Yeah,” You nod, mind focused on something else, on someone else. He was a second year and always wore a scowl. a lot of your classmates said he was scary, and kind of ugly, but you didn’t care because you thought he was secretly sweet. So, you dropped off little treats in his locker, and at lunch you would notice how he ate them. Though you were to scared to ever confess to Kyōtani, it didn’t mean you still wouldn’t like him.
“Like I was saying, Iwa-chan,” Tōru turned and sent a little glare to the friend who was staring at how you didn’t mind Tōru’s hands with yours. “I got some coupons for this store, a woman’s store, and I was going to give them to you,” Tōru looks down to you with a smile, then pulling the little pieces of paper out of his pocket.
“Oh, thanks, I’ll ask Mai-chan if she wants to go with me this weekend,” You smiled lightly at him, going to grab the coupons before he moved them away.
“No, don’t be silly, I’ll go with you, today! I can drive us there and it can be a fun day for the both of us,” He patted your head like a little dog.
“If she wants to go with her friends, let her,” Hajime shrugged, mentioning to his friend on the side of him. “Anyways my street is here. Bye, loserkawa bye Y/n,” He waved goodbye, walking away and leaving the two siblings to themselves.
“You’d rather go with a friend than your nii-san?” He asked, still holding your hand tightly and guiding you to your home.
“It’s-it’s not that,”
“You must really love this friend, they must be really amazing for you to ditch me for them. Tell me about them, are they a star volleyball player, do they have many fans?”
“Oh, so they aren’t that special. Why don’t you want to spend time with me?” He stopped, letting go of your hand and turned to look you right in the eyes.
“I-she is just, funny and a girl,”
“Hm, I see,” He started to walk again, not grabbing your hand, and just leaving you standing there. “Then I’ll keep these and ask this friend of yours to come with me,”
“What! No!” You jogged to catch up with him, now the both of you in your homes driveway. “Tōru, you can’t,”
“Tsk, you won’t even call me nii-san. Are you that ashamed I’m your brother? I’m going shopping, with or without you,” He pulled out the car keys from his pocket, walking up to the car in the driveway and unlocking it.
You quickly rushed over, hopping into the front passenger seat, while Tōru had his cunning smile and say in the drivers seat.
“Can I play a song?” You asked him, having one on your mind already.
“No, princess, just be patient,” He told you, slowly moving a hand to your thigh and patting it once, before leaving it there.
“Ah, I don’t like how you call me just by my first name,” His lips puckered out. “If you keep calling me that then we won’t go shopping,”
“It’s okay, it just makes me feel like you don’t like me as much. And I know you don’t want to hurt my feelings, you’re too of a good girl for that,” He rubbed your thigh with his thumb, a content smile on his face.
Soon you two arrived at the store, Tōru opening the door for you and mostly seeing women and a few of there boyfriends littering around.
You though the store was just going to be one with many dresses for women and maybe a few fancy shirts and skirts, not a lingerie store. You immediately covered your face, turning around and walking out of the doors. Tōru rushed after you and grabbed your arm.
“Baby, what’s wrong? Are you nervous? You don’t have to be nervous with me,”
“Isn’t it weird to go shopping for those things with your brother?”
“What do you mean? It just shows that we love each other and get along, nothing weird. Don’t be silly baby, come on, I’ll be there to help you,” He placed a little kiss on your forehead, using those ever so persistent words and sweet, insanely, sweet tone.
Once you were back in the store, he was by your side most of the time, and you just wandered around awkwardly. Every now and then spending a little bit of a longer glance at a pair of thongs, then turning away.
Eventually Tōru left your side, and you felt you could let go of a breath you didn’t know you were holding. You strolled over to a underwear area and picked up a few, then finding a lace bra and picking up that as well. It wasn’t anything crazy, but it was cute.
You were walking to the bedrooms when Tōru suddenly appeared again with some in his own hands.
“Tōru, what are you doing?” You asked, looking at the pile of undergarments in his hands.
“I found some for you to try on, thought you might like these?” He smiled, opening the changing room door for you.
“Oh okay,” You grabbed them from his hands and walked into the room, you were about to close it when you weren’t able to shut it all the way. You looked back and noticed that his foot was stopping you.
He swiftly made his way into the room and locked the door. You sent him a questioning look, while he took a seat on the little stool placed in the room, and stared at you through the mirror. “Go on now,” He encouraged, taking the undergarments from your hand and placing them in his lap.
“Tōru, can’t you, uh, leave?” You messed with the bottom of your shirt, wanting to ask the question in a way that made sure not to upset him.
“Why? We’re family, nothin’ I haven’t see before,” He laughed, taking out his phone from his pocket, acting like he wasn’t even paying attention to you.
You slowly lifted your shirt over your head and pulled down your pants a little, just staring at your reflection in the mirror, trying to get a look at your brother who was staring at his phone still. You continued to stare at yourself, zoning out with thoughts about things you needed to get done.
“Imōto-san, do you need some help?” He asked, a small smile on his face and the phone discarded. He moved towards you, hands snaking around your stomach to give you a hug from the back.
For a moment, it felt like you could feel the hardening bulge that was pressing against your ass. Tōru rubbed little circles with his thumb on your stomach, then slowly moving the other hand up more to grope your boob resting inside the thin bra you were currently wearing.
“Thank goodness I took you shopping! This bra is not fit for you,” He laughed, gripping it a bit harder, and rubbing that thumb across the nipple.
“Tōru-nii, I- we should just go home, you shouldn’t-” You stuttered, confused on how something so disgusting could feel somewhat pleasurable.
“You have to try on one of the bras at least, come on now,” He removed his arms, now placing them on your back and slowly unhooking the fabric. “I’m just trying to help you, and you need your big brothers help, right?”
“I guess?” You turned your head back to him, and he bent down, placing a chaste kiss onto your plump lips.
“Good, now let’s try this one,” He picked up a very lacy bra and helped you but it on, it was also thin, and showed some parts of your nipples. He took your hand and spun you around to face him, Tōru couldn’t help but stare at your breasts. “Beautiful, absolutely beautiful!” His hands were soon back on your boobs, groping and rubbing against them while a few little noises left your mouth.
“Tōru-” You breathed out, trying your best to keep quiet, but your big brother was just too good!
“Shhh, it’s okay,” He kept his right hand, continuing the movements, while the other went behind to pick up a pair of underwear he had found. “Let’s try this,” He kissed your lips again, with much fire and passion, then pulling back and shoving the underwear into your mouth. “Aww, you’re so cute baby,” He cooed.
Tōru went back to letting his hands move around your stomach, and soon running down to the front of your pussy. Tōru rubbed little patterns on the top, refusing to begin dipping his fingers and giving you true pleasure. A whine slipped out of your mouth, wanting more of a feeling down there.
“You’re being so needy, we can’t let anyone hear,” He shushed you, pushing the panties deeper into your mouth. “Nii-san will help you, don’t worry,” His smirk was larger, knowing that what he had been dreaming about was finally going to happen.
His hand ran down, sticking a finger into your pussy and rubbing little circles. Soon he added another one, continuing the circles that just didn’t feel like enough. Tōru began to pump his fingers in and out, finally feeling some more friction made more moans try to leave your lips.
Tōru couldn’t help but stare at your little expressions through the mirror. If he could, without truly losing his pace, he would grab his phone and snap a photo, but now wasn’t a time that would work. You looked so beautiful trying to close your eyes and focus on your breathing. The both of you could hear someone chatting in a booth not too far from here.
The knot that was killing your stomach soon dispersed and Tōru had a wicked grin on his lips. He took his fingers out and moved them straight to his mouth, making a ‘pop’ noise after removing them.
“Shhh,” Tōru whispered, trying to smoothen your hair a bit as he removed the underwear from your mouth. He snuck it under the little chair and turned back to you, who was pulling up your pants and normal underwear.
Tōru exited the room like he was the smoothest mother fucker, and grabbed the items you were going to buy, moving to the counter.
“Just this?” The woman asked, taking the bras and underwear, ringing them up and putting them in a bag. Tōru just nodded while you stood beside him, pulling out your phone, he tried to grab you hand and once he did intertwined it with his.
“That’ll be 84.95,” She told Tōru who just pulled out a credit card. “That’s nice of you to buy that for your girlfriend,”
“She deserves it, a bit shy though,” He laughed, taking the bag and guiding you to the front door to leave the store.
“Hey, Akiko, someone left some wet underwear in one of the changing rooms,” A worker voiced into a radio.
“Let’s get home and try on those underwear again,”

Bucky Barnes is an acquaintance at best. The two of you rarely work together, and with conflicting schedules, you see little of each other around the compound. On a random Friday in April, however, something changes in you. The moment is nothing out of the ordinary. You’re sitting on the couch in the main living space, re-reading one of your favorite books. Bucky has just returned from a mission; you glance up to see his exhausted expression. He catches your eye, winking with a smile, before walking to his room. Your heart flutters and your head freezes at the response. “Oh, no,” you think to yourself. “Maybe that was a one-time thing? I don’t actually like him, right?” Wrong.
Ever since that night, the mere presence of Bucky Barnes drives you crazy: his stunning blue eyes that squint ever so slightly when he smiles, his adorable nose that crinkles when he laughs, his pillowy lips that you lose yourself in, his fluffy hair you can’t help but imagine running your fingers through, his scruff speckled jawline that you wish would brush along your hands, cheeks, anywhere really. He occupies your dreams; you can’t escape this man even if you try. Today, he drives you crazier than usual. He stands in the compound's kitchen in a tight black t-shirt, one that leaves nothing to the imagination. This is the first time you’ve seen him in short sleeves, in anything other than tactical gear. You can’t help but stare as he prepares his lunch. The shirt hugs his frame tight, accentuating his biceps that had no right to be that big. “Gosh, he must spend hours in the gym to look like that.” You then notice the vein in his right arm protruding from his skin, tracing it with your eyes. You didn’t think he could become any more beautiful, but here he is before you, incredible as ever.
You’re pulled from your reverie when Bucky calls your name. “Yeah?” you reply, barely masking the startled stutter in your voice.
“Pass me the salt?”
“Oh! Sure, of course,” you muster, taking a sip of water from the glass in front of you as you hand him the salt shaker.
“Thanks, doll,” he flirts with a smile, the same one he gave you that night when he got back to the compound. You nearly choke. “Bucky Barnes called me a term of endearment?!? Holy shit.” Your heart swells and you look down at your glass in a desperate attempt to hide the blush creeping its way across your cheeks. “Goodness gracious, I respond this way from a simple word?” You couldn’t imagine how you’d feel if he touched you.
It didn’t take long to find out. The following day, you stand in the kitchen prepping your lunch, singing softly along to the song playing from your phone. Bucky appears soon after. He stands close to you for a moment, closer than necessary, but of course you don’t mind. He has just showered; his cologne lingers in the air, intoxicating you. Somehow, you keep singing along, showing no sign that your mind is elsewhere.
“Ugh, he smells amazing. This man has too much power over me; this is ridiculous! I don’t even remember what I was doing—”
“You have a beautiful voice,” he compliments.
“Thank you, Bucky,” you softly reply, your heart racing at his praise.
“Let me get by you real fast, doll,” he says, moving to walk behind you.
“There he goes again with the pet name. My god, could this get any worse—”
He places his hands gently on your hips as he moves beside you. Electricity travels through your whole body; you’re internally screaming at his touch. His hands feel better than you imagined. Even though the contact lasts only a moment, the effects of his touch linger after, leaving you speechless.
You hear a musical chuckle from the man behind you. “Is he teasing me? It sure feels like it,” you wonder. There is no way that he can’t see the effect he has on you. Before you can even formulate another thought, he touches you again as he moves back to the other side of you. “That was definitely on purpose; certainly he wouldn’t do this by accident. Right?”
Your eyes linger as he finishes putting together his lunch. He catches your gaze and smiles. “See you later, sweetheart,” he says with a wink before leaving the room. “Okay, that answers my question; that was very intentional. What am I going to do with myself?”
You don’t know how much longer you can take his teasing. Throughout the week, he ups his antics, calling you pet names more than your own, stealing touches whenever he can get away with it, smiling whenever you make eye contact. The tension is insatiable; thoughts of Bucky follow you everywhere. You decide to take matters in your own hands; Bucky did not seem to be planning to make a move anytime soon. If he is going to tease the hell out of you, you might as well get some payback.

Tony’s announcement of Friday night karaoke gives you a wicked idea. However, for it to work, you need to recruit help. You know just who to ask. It doesn’t take long to find Sam and Steve; they spent a ton of their free time sparring in the gym. They seem to be at the end of their workout, their movements slow and sloppy, relying on witty retorts to throw off the other. They stop when they notice your arrival.
“Hey!” Sam says with a smile, hugging you as you approach. You squeeze him tightly, even with his sticky sweat coating his arms. You greet Steve with a hug too.
“What brings you to our neck of the woods?” Steve asks as you let go.
“Can I ask you guys something? And you promise you two won’t laugh at me? Especially if I'm reading this wrong?”
“Of course,” answers Steve.
“Yeah, for sure,” replies Sam.
You hesitate for a second, taking a deep breath. “Does Bucky like me? I swear he does. He keeps teasing me, and I don’t know how much longer I can take it. I think I am practically in love with the guy at this point, he’s so beautiful and—”
You stop as the boys exchange glances and begin laughing.
You cross your arms, hurt. “You said you wouldn’t laugh at me! I can’t control how I feel.”
“No! Wait! We aren’t laughing at you!” Steve says between giggles.
You furrow your brows. “Then why are you laughing?”
“Bucky’s obsessed with you,” Steve answers after calming his laughter.
“God, yes, you’re all he talks about nowadays,” Sam adds.
“What?! He does? Why? Are you shitting me right now? Because that would be really freaking mean—“
“No! Of course not,” Steve insists. “Don’t you see the way he looks at you?”
“And the pet names he gives you?” Sam adds.
“And how he can’t seem to keep his hands to himself lately?” Steve finishes.
Now you feel stupid for even asking. Of course you noticed all of those things. They were all you ever thought about. “Well, yeah, but maybe he does that with all the girls.”
“What girls?” Sam retorted. “The only women who are here often enough to cross paths with him are you, Natasha, and Wanda. Wanda’s with Vision, as weird as that is, but love is love. Natasha shoots daggers at anyone who looks at her with love in their eyes. That leaves you.”
“Why in the world would he like me? Of all people? He’s out of my league,” you sigh,
Sam’s scoff pulls you from your thoughts. “Bucky? Out of your league? He’s a crazy ex-assassin with emotional issues! If anything, he's out of your league.”
“You’re a catch, why wouldn’t he like you?” Steve assures.
Steve and Sam always know just what to say to make you feel better. “I guess you’re right,” you admit with a defeated grin.
“So, you know how Bucky feels. What are you going to do about it?” Steve asks.
“I have an idea, but I need your help.”
You divulge your plan to them. They smile, hyping you up.
“Dude, I’m so down!” Sam exclaims, clapping his hands in excitement.
“You think this will work?”
“Definitely,” Steve assures. “This is going to be amazing!”
“Okay then, we’re doing this. Let’s go find Bucky. Time to initiate phase one.”
───────────── ･ ｡ﾟ☆: *.☽ .* :☆ﾟ. ･ ─────────────
Bucky is sitting on the common room couch, flipping through a book when he sees you, Sam, and Steve enter. He exchanges a glance with you, smiling as your eyes light up. The three of you sit down. You’re sitting next to Sam, closer than usual. There’s a brief moment of silence before you speak. “Sam, are you going to karaoke night?”
“Of course! Wouldn’t miss everyone’s drunk-ass singing for the world.”
“Will you be my duet partner?”
This catches Bucky’s attention. He looks up from his book. Why the hell were you asking Sam to sing with you? You normally ask the girls...
“Sure thing, baby. It’ll be a ton of fun!” Sam smiles.
Baby?! What?! How dare he call you a pet name, his girl, right in front of him? Well, you may not be his girl yet, but Sam knows how he feels about you. What the hell is he thinking?
“Yay! This’ll be so fun!” You hug him, grabbing his hand before continuing, “Wanna practice with me in a bit?”
“Find me when you’re ready, sweetheart,” Sam answers, kissing your knuckle before letting go of your hand.
Sweetheart?! What the fuck was going on? Did he miss his shot? Would Sam really do that to him? Bucky can barely handle his swirling thoughts. He storms out of the room without looking back.
Steve can’t help but laugh once Bucky is out of earshot. “That worked a little too well, wouldn’t you say so?”
“That wasn’t too far, was it?” you ask with a worried expression on your face.
“Nah, don’t worry about it. He’ll just come on even stronger now. He won’t give up on you that easily,” Sam assures you.
───────────── ･ ｡ﾟ☆: *.☽ .* :☆ﾟ. ･ ─────────────
Bucky can barely contain his anger as you step on the stage with Sam, giggling and smiling at your karaoke partner. Jealousy engulfs him. He can barely listen to the start of the song, ignoring the catchy beat blasting through the speakers. He doesn’t recognize the song, but looks up from his drink when you sing, “Hey Bucky boy, what you doing tonight? I wanna see what you got in store."
He looks right at you. Did she just say Bucky?
Sam echoes, “Hey, hey Bucky!” Well, that answers his question.
“You're giving it your all when you're dancing on me. I want to see if you can give me some more,” you continue, twirling your fingers through your hair.
“Hey, hey Bucky!”
“You can be my man, I can be your girl, and we can pump this jam however you want,” you sing, swaying your hips to the cadence of the lyrics.
“Hey, hey Bucky!”
“Pump it from the side, pump it upside down, or we can pump it from the back and the front,” you wink as you finish the line. Bucky sits up suddenly, crossing his legs, his face turning beet red. You smile, knowing the plan was working. Steve laughs from beside him. He keeps his eyes glued on you as the two of you continue the song, utterly entranced. You look him right in the eye as you end the song, “I want you tonight.”
You saunter over to where he is sitting after high-fiving Sam, confidence filling your chest. “So, what did you think of my performance, Bucky?”
You yelp as he grabs your hips and pulls you down to sit on his lap. His voice deepens, “you’re such a tease, you know that right?”
You laugh. “I’m the tease? Really? You’re the one who just pulled me onto your lap and taunts me with flirtatious remarks and smiles all freaking day. My god Bucky, make a move already—”
He cuts you off, pulling you in for a kiss, his flesh arm grabbing the back of your neck. The team whoops and cheers.
“Glad you finally made a move, Bucky,” you pant as your lips part from his.
“Best decision I ever made in my life, doll.” Before you can respond, he kisses you again, the karaoke bar fading in the background as you finally embrace the man of your dreams.

Why Willow Smith's Divergence into Pop-Punk Isn’t All that Odd
Written by Pablo. Graphic by Allison Thompson.
Unless under a rock is where you currently reside then, you’ve surely heard Willow Smith’s brand-new pop punk song, featuring world renowned drummer Travis Barker, Transparent Soul. Given Willow’s track record of music in recent years, this single is the biggest creative shift since going from Pop to R&B in the mid 2010’s. Willow is drawing notable inspiration from pop punk legends that came before her like Paramore, Fallout Boy, and Barker’s own band, Blink 182. This change caught many off guard, until they realized that this music is actually in Willow’s blood.
Her mother Jada Pinkett-Smith, known for her acting chops, actually had her own nu metal band aptly called, Wicked Wisdom. The connection between the two women on a musical front only confirms the tight knit relationship audiences have gotten a peek at through Pinkett-Smith’s, Facebook exclusive show, Red Table Talk. The platform gathers Pinkett-Smith, Willow, and Pinkett-Smith’s mother, often referred to as “Gammy”, Adrienne Banfield-Norris. The women gather around a table, which of course is red, and discuss a wide bevy of topics including, sexuality, relationships, forgiveness and race.
Throughout the series it becomes very apparent that the women are connected on more than just a blood relation level. They respect, love and revere each other in such a high regard and that truly is the magic of the show. The way they handle each other’s ideas and beliefs with care and intention while also holding true to their own convictions is what allows for such an open an honest dialogue.
So, when it came time for Willow to release new music with this new and refreshing sound, it’s quite evident that not only was she paying homage to her mother but also carrying the proverbial torch forward. Wicked Wisdom was formed in 2002 in California, 12 years after Jada Pinkett-Smith made her acting debut.
Pinkett-Smith can be easily seen as the jack of all trades in Hollywood. There’s not a thing that Pinkett-Smith, (and the entire Smith family) cannot do and it is clear that Willow is more than excited to follow in her mother’s steps of being open to new opportunities and creative ideas that may arise in her mind.
As Mother’s Day approached, Willow decided to pay the ultimate tribute to her mother by reuniting Wicked Wisdom, who have not played together, with Pinkett-Smith as the lead vocalist since 2013, for a performance of Willow’s favorite song Bleed All Over Me, from their 2006 self-titled sophomore album. While watching the performance, which was a surprise, it’s clear to see what an emotional moment this was for Pinkett-Smith. Not only was her band back together but, she’d come to realize just how much of an impact she, and her brief stint as a musician, had influenced her child. The moment captured the tenderness of their relationship and was even more heart-warming when you realized that Pinkett-Smith’s own mother was there to witness that special moment as well.
It’s really the small things that make the memories. Watching three generations of Black women bond over the face curdling sounds of nu metal is something we could all use a little more in our lives.
Not a request, just wanted to ask something of a fellow fan of Lady D's daughters: "Ways to Be Wicked" from Descendants 2 just screams them, yeah? Cause I was jamming and could honestly see them vibing with the lyrics lol
I’ll be very honest with you, I had to look this song up because I’ve never watched any of the Descendants movies 😬 but once I did, I think I might be inclined to agree with you, and these are the two lines that did it in for me:
“With us, evil lives on the right side of wrong”
“Mother knows best, show her, pass every test”
And if that doesn’t have the Dimitrescu daughters written all over it, then I don’t know what will lol! These “cruel and unusual” women can certain take control of me when they aren’t too busy fighting over their mother. Thank you for sharing that with me!
