What do Nobita's friends want to be when they grow up?

Shizuka wants to be a flight attendant, nurse, or kindergarten teacher (職業テスト腕章, 1981 manga story). Because of this, Doraemon invited her to be a flight attendant when Nobita ran his own airline with the "Tricycle Plane" (三輪飛行機). Another time, she said she wanted to be a diplomat (Nobita's Three Visionary Swordsmen, 1994 manga).

The plan was that I'd do one of these and go back to regularly unscheduled dinosaur drawings, but brain said no, so now I've made a whole series of mock covers for the "main character Shizuka" AU.

Logo based on that of the Doraemon manga published by Shogakukan, as well as a promotional graphic for an event at the Doraemon Waku Waku Sky Park.

Brief notes on each cover below the break:

Vol. 1: Based on "Shizuka the Friendly Witch" from the manga, in which Shizuka borrows gadgets from Doraemon so she can cosplay as a witch and help people in need. In this AU where Doraemon actually lives with her, I imagine this would be a recurring event. As Shizuka finds out in canon, riding a broomstick gets sore after a while, so I took a leaf from the 1981 anime adaptation of the story and had her change pose so that both of her legs are dangling off the same side of the broom.

Vol. 2: Shizuka tries using Momotaro's Dumplings to tame a wild animal. Unfortunately, it happens to be the one animal Doraemon is terrified of.

Vol. 3: My original idea for this was that Doraemon would be helping Shizuka with a school project, but I don't know what elementary school project would require Doraemon to consult his Universal Encyclopedia! Either way, they're working hard. You can decide what they're working on. Other fans have made the observation that in the manga, Shizuka has the recurring character tic of holding her pencil in her mouth, so I chose to incorporate that here.

Vol. 4: As in the source material, Shizuka's pet canary escaping would be a regular concern. Here, Doraemon intends to use the Course Marker to help her recapture the canary (which he has also done in canon).

Vol. 5: As revealed in "Boy Becomes Girl", Shizuka actually loves climbing trees, but her mom prohibits her from doing so on the grounds that it's not "proper" behavior for a girl. Maybe with Doraemon's help, she can get away with indulging this interest more often...

Vol. 6: Well, there's no getting away from the fact that one of Shizuka's best-known character traits is that she loves bathing, even though official media mostly uses this as an excuse to put her in some gross and questionable scenarios. Here she introduces Doraemon to the concept of a milk bath, inspired by her desire to take one in the film Nobita's Little Star Wars. They've used the Shrink-grow Cup to create enough milk for the tub.

Vol. 7: Another one of Shizuka's more famous character traits is that she is dreadful at playing the violin. I am also dreadful at drawing violinists, so I'll blame any errors I've made with her posture on the fact that she isn't good at playing. Either way, this is something Doraemon would have to deal with in this AU...

Vol. 8: After shrinking herself with the Gulliver's Tunnel, Shizuka can play with her plush bunny in a new and exciting way. I wanted Shizuka to be doing something with her stuffed toy collection in this one, but I wasn't sure what. I ended up being partly inspired by another scene from Nobita's Little Star Wars.

Vol. 9: Shizuka and Doraemon enjoy their favorite snacks. At this point in the "series", I think Shizuka would have learned to tolerate Doraemon knowing about her fondness for sweet potatoes.

My Recommendations For Doraemon Episodes (2005 Anime Edition)

if u know me u know i'm far from being the biggest fan of the 2005 doraemon anime. howeverrrr i don't hate it either cuz i'm a fan, so here's my fav episodes from the series!

p.s. one of my old posts contains many episodes from the new anime, so they won't be listed here bc i don't wanna be repetitive, not bc i don't like them enough!

☆ The Horrors Of Gian's Birthday (2007)

this episode is a birthday special as u can tell from the title and it's also about 20 minutes long, orrrr if we're being precise, it's made of two 10-minutes-long episodes. at the beginning it pisses me off cuz nobita and shizuka initially forget gian's b-day and once suneo reminds them, all 3 of them and doraemon do the most to avoid attending his party. gian isn't the best person on the show and he's full of flaws but having fake friends is horrible...

this episode is longer than usual, about 20 minutes long and it's about a school trip who suddenly turns into a nightmare for doraemon (don't ask me why he was at a school trip just watch the episode) and the 5 kids (yes, dekisugi was with them, too).

nobita needs to finish his homework faster, doraemon wants longer legs, suneo wants his arms and hands to be ladylike, gian wants to know what it's like to be skinny. so they respectively switch head, legs, arms and torso with shizuka. she rightfully gets her body parts back in the end, but i wish doraemon did something about suneo's arms, he seemed truly unhappy with 'em. 💀

the episode starts with suneo and a model (or a woman who works in the fashion industry) talking about current fashion trends and then suneo starts laughing at nobita for not knowing shit on the subject. obviously, nobita initially claims he doesn't give a fuck and a couple minutes later he's crying to doraemon cuz he wants to copy suneo's hobbies, and he obviously needs some gadget to do so cuz he's not good at the things suneo does. 🥱

p.s. suneo and his mom are so cunty, no other family duo is seeing them, ever!

after the animation update in 2018 the titles just kept getting weirder and the episodes more boring, are they even making original episodes anymore nowadays? cuz they're always making those horrible remakes of classic episodes... but this is the exception, it's cute as fuck. yeah, once again nobita is jealous that suneo has a passion and is good at doing what he loves, so he asks doraemon for help. it's annoying bc he doesn't want it as bad as suneo does, he just wants to keep up with him (he can't), but all these episodes with the fashion designer thing are nice so i'll focus on that. also it's cute that suneo's mom lets him wear and borrow her clothes!

Any Doraemon headcanons?

Yes! I have to think on it, but yes.

1. Shizuka is hella competitive. Don't ask why, I just think she's competitive.

2. Nobita's smart. Like, really really smart. He just never tries.

3. Nobita has ADHD,, idk why but I just feel it in my heart. I'm not a professional, or anything, I probably have no idea what I'm talking about, but just the way he reads manga when he knows he has homework and a test the next day just gives me a feeling. Like, I imagine him to be thinking, "I really should study. I need to study. Study. But then he reads manga. I should get up and study now, why am I not doing that-- This manga is so interesting and funny."

4. Gian is like. Really bad at communication. He's trying, but everything comes out as anger and he has no idea how to stop lashing out at his friends. He regrets it a bit, when he beats Nobita up, but he can't stop it. The rush of adrenaline, you know?

5. Suneo's bad at communication, and the only way he thinks his friends are gonna stay with him is if he shows off his money. I feel like maybe someone's wronged him in the past, you know? Someone hurt him, and now he's struggling to communicate and just ends up showing off. His showing off is a way of him going, "Look at all the stuff I can do! As long as you guys stay with me, you can do it too!"

6. I've mentioned this before, but Dekisugi hates sports. Like hates sports. He's just good at them, but he doesn't like it. Why play sports when you could ✨ r e a d ✨

I'm sad that no one's excited for Suneo and Nobita. After 6 yrs (I was 11 back then). My headcanon was true. Suneo likes Nobita.

Why else would he blush!

Suneo and Gian turned into animals due to shizuka's wand and Nobita had to kiss them with a gadget to change them back to humans. While Gian was angry, Suneo was still blushing when he told him what happened.
