So let’s talk Bakugan!
Boy what an odd ball of the Mon genre. I was in college when Battle Brawlers came out, but Mon Series are my jam so I’m obligated to still tune in to see what it was like.
Over the years in its so far three generations, it’s… pretty much the left over scraps of its contemporaries. G1 was Pokémon, Digimon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! smooshed together, and as it went along it felt like it skewed more towards Digimon and Zatch Bell, largely abandoning the Yu-Gi-Oh! flavor in exchange for Super Robot style evil empires. (I thought it was also funny that New Vestroia seemed to copy Beyblade’s Cyber Bit-Beast concept with the Mechanical Bakugan, which comes full circle with G3 Bakugan toys mimicking Beyblade with its new weapon gimmick.) The creature designs came off as as a mix of Digimon and Yugi, but having what I can best describe is a western monster flair that I think helped it stand out a bit more, and like Digimon, leaned into an anything goes approach from mecha, knights, Sentai aliens, dinosaurs and utter nonsense creatures like Goblinball and Wontu. G2 meanwhile asks the question “What if we smooshed Pokemon and Transformers together?” (Funnily enough, RiD15 had its own Bakugan adjacent gimmick in Cyclone Mini-Cons prior to release). Its creature design felt a bit conflicted. Initially all Bakugan were designed to appear fully mechanical, with a Bayformers/Aligned flair. However as the series went along, the purely mechanical aesthetic was dropped in favor of sleeker armored looks, that felt restricted as all the Bakugan were largely just giant animal robot. You had a few unique designs like Ryerazu, Spartillion, Auratoa, and several mishmash generics, but they felt too far between in favor of stuff like giant cat or giant shark.
G3 design wise seems to instead be a hybrid of its previous generations. The Bakugan largely return to being primarily organic beings as they were in G1, but largely sticking to the giant animal motif of G2. However because they’re not hindered by the mecha style, the designs feel more fresh and nostalgic, now closer to designs like Tigrara and Preyas again. The main draw back is the Bakugan are still rendered in 3D, so the more organic designs don’t work well in that style as they did for the purely mechanical ones. Also like G2, the generic designs are also surprisingly charming, and I like them a little more than the main Bakugan like the dolphin man, ankylosaurus, a Leomon looking fellow and some assorted dinos and dragons.
Bakugan, in its three major generations, have generally followed some general blueprints: the Bakugan are divided in color coordinated factions, the main villains are either evil Bakugan and/or corrupt human(oids), with most importantly of all: the leads are almost always new iterations of Dan & Drago. This consistency of using Dan and Drago is honestly kind of impressive, even though its technically different characters each time, but it's funny to me that in an era where Ash has been (for the time being) retired, Bakugan still relies on Dan, Digimon brought back Tai and now Davis, and Yokai Watch brought back Nate after experimenting with using his future children. Whether that remains in a potential 4th generation of Bakugan remains to be seen though...
The different factions concept is both interesting and kind of frustrating about Bakugan. A big appeal for Pokemon and Digimon is having these profiles that expand on what each creature does and what its like, allowing you to pick and choose some favorites based on that if need be. Bakugan... doesn't seem to have that for whatever reason, and I never understood why. Most guidebooks are largely reliant on what a specific species of Bakugan has done in the anime, with G2 being the most egregious, as the profiles are extremely limited and incomplete due to Battle Planet not even being half way done when the book was made. I tend to suspect part of this was due to the Elemental Attribute/Factions concept, as many Bakugan are quite literally a horse of a different color in the same species, and it was probably seen as simpler not to write how a Ventus Tigrara is different from a Subterra Tigrara. Not helped are characters like Preyas and Elfin, who are depicted as chameleons, who can freely change their Attribute colors, and in Elfin's case in particular, she gains a new design to correspond to each type, despite not changing personality (at least that I recall). It might actually have been fun to see different Dragonoids similarly have different designs based on attributes, like a Ventus Drago is more bird like, an Aquos Drago's wings are more like fins, just small things.... But part of the toy lines appeal is just getting the same guy in different colors, so that probably wouldn't make sense to sculpt the toys like that.
While individual Bakugan don't really have that much lore, it is fascinating to see how Bakugan's lore has evolved in the different generations though. In G1, the Bakugan are monsters that came from another dimension, Vestroia, which was divided into different dimensional planes comprised of the different attributes. When Bakugan enter other worlds outside their own, they assume their ball forms, implying it's not something their race were capable of doing originally, as well as being only able to attack when partnered with other beings by using cards. After series villain Naga was stopped, and the Cores of Vestroia were restored, the dimension was reshaped into a proper planet called New Vestroia. On top of Bakugan coming to Earth via dimensional rifts, similar to how it works in Digimon, the Bakugan also fell to other dimensions, and bonded with the human analogs there in Vestal, Gundalia and Nethia, with it being revealed the Bakugan are descended from an ancient force in the G/N universe called Code Eve, with all Bakugan descended from primordial versions of Dragonoid and Dharak. Bakugan are divided into Pyrus, Haos, Aquos, Ventus, Subterra and Darkus types, referring to fire, holy light, water, wind, earth and darkness. Bakugan don't seem to have an active government or form of civilization in this universe, and like most instances in Digimon, just seem to do whatever they like. This presumably is just to make it easier for them to partner up to humans, since that's the focus, lol. It does appear Bakugan do just adapt to Earth, Vestal, and so on's various culture anyway. Bakugan are capable of Evolution, like Pokemon and Digimon, though its not as ... impressive. Evolution mostly seems limited to a slightly modified version of the base Bakugan, and usually doesn't seem to progress beyond this secondary form. Drago is the only one that constantly evolves into multiple forms, though esoteric means typically, but possibly also due his lineage with Genesis Dragonoid. Dharak similarly seems capable of multiple Evolutions, though he's the only one to Evolve into a completely separate creature as Razinoid via other means. A form of Pseudo Evolution via Fusion in Mechtanium Surge is introduced, but it's not clear if all Bakugan are capable of doing this. While Bakugan don't appear to have their own technology, they make use of advanced Vestal and Gundalian technology to use special battle suits and vehicles suited to themselves. While primarily children are depicted as using Bakugan, older teens and adults are capable of bonding and using them no issue.
G2 meanwhile goes its own direction, but borrows fairly heavily from its predecessor.
Here, Bakugan are instead divided into Pyrus, Haos, Aquos, Ventus, and Darkus, where they're governed by the divine Golden Bakugan. Subterra was apparently retired as a faction as it wasn't considered popular, so Ventus is reworked to be more nature themed to make up for Subterra's absence. Haos is apparently still themed around holy light, but it feels a bit... forced when the Golden Bakugan are this too.
The different factions are said to have not gotten along in the past, though this mostly only comes up in Armored Alliance through the ancient, Earth bound Bakugan, as the present day Bakugan don't seem to have any beef with each other. Like G1, the planet is connected to special Cores that help keep Vestroia going. Somewhat confusingly, due to later retcons, its stated that Bakugan have a symbiotic relationship with their home planet, that requires them to constantly battle to give off the necessary energy to fuel the planet. Later on, it seems this isn't really the case anymore... Also, the Bakugan also benefit to this energy exchange, which made me think they don't require food like we do, but apparently Ventus Bakugan are the farmers, so they apparently do require food...? It's one of those world building things I never quite got. Meanwhile Bakugan naturally can assume ball form here as part of their evolution, so much so, the ancient Geogan are apparently primordial Bakugan specimens that assumed different shapes prior to the evolution to sphere forms. The series seems to be copying G1's idea that Bakugan only assume their ball forms while on other planets, but it appears to be more a form of convenience the Bakugan can control, as their giant forms aren't otherwise compatible with Earth. The aforementioned Cores were tampered with by the first antagonist, Tiko, who seems to be the stand in for Naga, creating a chain of events that see the Bakugan come to Earth similar to G1, only it results in Vestroia fusing with Earth, creating a sort of inner world concept where Bakugan can live freely within Vestroia, but through unspecified means, Bakugan will periodically be "born" on Earth, emerging in ball form via liquid sacks and bond with humans. Unlike G1, Bakugan specifically bond with children, but teenagers and adults aren't able to readily bond with Bakugan without using special Devices. It's not... really explained super well why this is that I recall, but its one of G2's most consistent ideas that lasts until the series finale. Bakugan aren't entirely welcomed by most of humanity, with several companies like AAAnimous capturing Bakugan and brainwashing them into obedience using mind control devices, though by Armored Alliance things stabilize, but Geogan Rising onward sees several wild Bakugan not happy at how humans treated them...
Bakugan are capable of Evolution here also, and like G1, it's mostly limited to a slightly modified version of the base form, with Drago and opposite Nillious being the only ones who can evolve into multiple stages at first. Evolution is apparently something not all Bakugan can accomplish and later on, Evolution was removed entirely due to Vestroia channeling the power post Tiko into special battle gear and fusion based abilities. Confusingly, Evolution returns anyway, where Bakugan can assume special speed and strength forms this time. Even more confusingly, it appears Evolution technically still happens in the five series of G2, as the main Bakugan assume different default forms in each series, with Nillious confusingly having Evolved into a robust, three headed centaur like dragon... only to revert back into his original bipedal two headed stage with no explanation after that. Evolution wasn't explained well at all here, though it was clarified only specific Bakugan are capable of fusion, and is otherwise something they can't typically do.
One detail I liked is the G2 Bakugan can apparently assume ball form to travel in space, which feels like a reference to the asteroid mode Bayverse Transformers assumed in earlier material. In this universe, Bakugan made contact with Earth in its prehistory, with some Bakugan apparently surviving long enough to interact with early man, as the present day uncovered artifacts related to the Bakugan made by humans. That said, Bakugan are apparently immortal to some extent, as fossilized Bakugan can be easily revived, while the Geogan apparently just exist in their own separate plane and can be summoned at will. Similarly, presumably to soften things for younger children at the time, villainous Bakugan don't die, when they technically should like Tiko, with Hanoj evidently being so absurdly powerful, he can't be killed or knocked into "stasis", and instead has to be sealed away in a nearby planetoid. Bakugan appear to have their own devolved civilization, something that was rather vague in G1, but here the Bakugan have various villages and cities that have a rustic RPG vibe I kinda dig. Unlike G1, where Bakugan can survive on other planets just fine, G2 era Bakugan are largely only able to survive on Earth due to their symbiotic ties to Vestroia, and once Vestroia is separated and becomes its own planet again, the Bakugan can't live on Earth anymore, and can only visit periodically in short visits. Interestingly, the ancient Bakugan on prehistoric Earth could survive just fine, but after stopping an asteroid collision, it still caused a shift in the environment that forced most Bakugan into stasis and later fossilization.
G3 is still going as of typing, but it takes the biggest departure, but replacing Elemental Factions with Clans. This instead refers to a Bakugan's species with Dragons, Beasts, Dinosaurs, Birds, Bugs and Aquatic types. Beasts seem to be the spiritual successor to Subterra, with Haos and Darkus being removed entirely. Somewhat confusingly, the Clans aren't really bound by specific colors, so Bakugan still come in Pyrus, Haos, Aquos, Ventus, Darkus, Subterra type colors, which makes me wonder if in some early stage of development, Bakugan were meant to still be divided into Attributes, but were segregated into Clans based on what animal they were, but the concept was dropped. Like G2, the Bakugan are space aliens again, but instead hail from the Vestroian System, which includes planets each Clan is native to: a planet of Dragons, a planet of Birds, etc. And like the South Park joke, all these different clans are stuck on Earth and forced to cohabitate. Unlike previous series, these Bakugan REALLY don't get along with each other, and largely stick with their own kind. Only the Misfit clan sees various Bakugan from other clans team up and become friends alongside their human partners.
In this version of events, the Bakugan are at war with each other, similar to the Transformers, with the opposing leaders being Dragonoid who assumes an Optimus Prime like role, while Nillious is... well he's supposed to be Megatron, but his personality and mannerisms evoke Starscream pretty heavily. Very little of Vestroian culture is seen, but the Bakugan do possess technology of their own that they use to fight each other. This being G3's version of battle gear, but this gear also doubles as a form of Evolution, with the Bakugan functionally Armor Digivolving. While Bakugan can naturally assume ball form like G2, they don't usually STAY in this form while on Earth, with the new idea being Bakugan base forms are roughly human sized, allowing them to interact with our planet better. This leads to humorous scenarios of them using public transportation and holding jobs when not with their human partners, making them more independent than they've usually been. They can still assume giant "evolved" forms, which seems to be treated as an ability Bakugan can't normally do until they partnered with humans, referencing older G1 concepts. Interestingly, Bakugan and humans are shown to synch upon meeting, with glowing eyes sealing a bond, something older series didn't do, which I find cool. G3 overall seems to be a more revised version of G2, with a slightly more engaging story, showing the Bakugan being embraced by humans, but Brawls being forced to go underground due to laws that restrict them. One company does capture and experiment on Bakugan however, but this doesn't appear to be as big of a problem this time, with humans and Bakugan getting along fine otherwise... However....
Most of Bakugan's villains tend to cycle from Evil Bakugan to Evil Human and so on. G2 largely operated on Evil Bakugan being the main villains, with humans being secondary when applicable. Usually a rival or main villain would be a teenager wearing a mask, starting with Masquerade, continuing with Spectra and later Magnus. G3's main villain revives it once more, with this teenager out for revenge against the Bakugan, as their sudden appearance caused the death of his parents. Using his parents' inventions, he created a G2 style control Device to brainwash Bakugan into a frenzy to initially frame them as a threat, but it later evolved into a desire to control them to take over the Earth in order to "set things right", due to the bad luck he perceived his family having. It's still a pretty unique take all things considered, and G3, if nothing else, has a better balance of humor and stakes, where as G2 often struggled with that post Battle Planet for some reason. Executive meddling I wager. I also adore that the Bakugan actually get to be characters in G3 again, as a major problem in G2 is most Bakugan didn't really get to talk or do much. Trox and Hydrous in particular suffered this, which to my surprise, G3 Trox not only gets proper dialogue, he has a very fun personality, sort of a eager beaver tourist Texan with nerdy interests that I really dig. Same with Nillious, though I admit I'm not sure if making him the slightly more competent Starscream works for him, but I still enjoy this direction. G3 is also interesting in that people seems to largely be on board with the anime, but the toys this time around are seen as a downgrade. The Beyblade style gimmick of the toys isn't really communicated at all in the show, with it being being questioned why it just wasn't more clip on G1 and G2 like Battle/Baku-Gear instead. The toys have a new phase coming out soon that seems to be another form of Evolution, as the package art shows Drago assuming a four legged beastial form, but how that works for the anime has yet to be seen. The toy sales of G3 aren't going so hot either, but as the series seems to have a cliffhanger atm, I hope the anime and toys aren't canceled before it gets properly resolved... Still, I'm not sure if we'll get a G4 atm unless the toy sales turn around, but I hope we get one, because the evolution of Bakugan as a series continues to fascinate me on how they spin it each time, despite still being the odd cousin of its Pokemon and Digimon relatives.

Here are my poisened poems charecters as care takers!
Tumblr media
Oliver would be a great care taker as he has always wanted to be a father!
Since hes a prince he would definitely play princess and knights/princes and loves watching disney princess movies or just disney movies in general with you!
Tea parties? Tea parties.
Every toy you have is very extravagant and looks almost like its from a fairy tale!
Speaking of fairy tale, he loves to read you fairy tales when its bed time!
Over all if you want a very expensive and fancy prince care taker but also one whos very sweet and will give you whatever you need, oliver would be your prince charming!
Tumblr media
Next is tia! I wouldn't suggest her as a care taker unless your okay with being a mini mean girl-
Tia would be more like a cool older sister then a mom care taker, but she'd still try her best!
Shopping at claires on the weekend to get you (and maybe her) a little dolled up and then you and her can play dress up or "fashion show" as tia likes to call it once you get home!
Yes she'll rewatch lps popular with you for the hundredth time is this even a question???
Speaking of lps she will totally play out a highschool drama with you using lps or barbies!
Since tia loves to sing karaoke of (kid friendly) pop songs are a must!
So if you'll risk becoming a little regina gorge to tias big regina gorge, then tia would be a fun time!
Tumblr media
Noah is a great care taker, especially for more shy or timid littles! If you don't mind the bugs of course!
Noah would love going outside and bug hunting with one of those bug catching kits (he lets the bigs go though!)
And since noah is also a theater kid he wouldn't mind dressing up and playing in a little play with you!
He would love to play video games with you! Weather its on the ds, 3ds, or switch! He'll play whatever you want! (He might cry if your mean or competitive)
He would love to watch anime/cartoons with you!
Pockys and chocolate pandas would probably be your main treat, that or gummy bugs/frogs/sharks!
But if you want a soft spoken bug loving theater kid gamer nerd as your care taker... I'm not sure theres anyone that fits that description other then noah!
Tumblr media
Damion is a very... alternative care taker...
He almost certainly bought you that pony mania set don't even lie-
He doesn't mind you and him screaming out emo music as long as you don't mind!
All of your toys are either black, red, skeleton or stiches theme!
Nintendo? Who are they??? All damion and you knows is play station!
Oh you already KNOW yall are shopping at hot topic!!
If you steal some candy from the store then damion lets it slide and acts like he doesn't even know what crime is!
Over all, if your fine with emo style and emo music and only a bit of crimes then damion is probably your perfect care taker!
Tumblr media
Finally the last care taker is midnight!
Midnight likes to give you red fruit juice cause you and her like to pretend its blood and that you a little baby vampire!
Haunted mansion, nightmare before Christmas, coraline, wich one are you picking for you and midnight's movie night?
She likes to read you spooky stories before bed (but not too scary since she doesn't want you to have nightmares!)
If you play dress up with her then lets just say you'll be looking like gothic marceline from fiona and cake-
Spirt holloween is you and midnights home, you guys sleep in coffins and hibernate till holloween!!
So if you'd like a very gothic and very spooky care taker then you might just want to hang out with midnight... hand out like... like bats like upside down-

I've been diving into 40K lore over the last couple of months and love it . I'm surprised that I've seen someone else on here that likes it 💜
There's a decently big community on here actually, it's just not the Front Page thing on everyone's blog. In terms of some of the ppl i follow who are into 40k in no particular order:
@spectralidax (Original art of Very Cute Sharks with inspiration from Orks and Carcharadons, currently painting a 3D print of one)
@inkaryart (Original Necrons and Warhammer Fantasy art, huge huge fan of their character Blanche in both full size (hot) and Gremlin mode (baby) :] )
@celestial-fang (Cosplayer, stunning artist, certified femboy Skitarii appreciator)
@brushray (Huge HUGE fan of Mr. Brushray's style, lots of Admech and Iron Warriors, if i could draw this is how i would aspire to)
@eleooooooo (Cosplayer who i followed more recently bc he's making an absolute BANGER Skitarii cosplay <_<)
@jame7t (Streamer, Escaped Lab Experiment, Chaos Knight shepard)
@drukhari (Tristan and their wife Miss Lily mostly post about other stuff but im legally obligated to include them here bc look at that username)
@gracia-regina (Miss Victoria arguably posts about 40k most consistently out of all my mutuals, thank you for your service o7)
@privatelivebait (Krieg and Skitarii fanboy)
@cronnissar (Not actually following but i regularly check in for his takes on GW's latest releases and rules breakdowns)
This list is NOT exhaustive and is absolutely biased by my personal draconian curation of a dashboard feed.

Seeing as I just made a post about how people should make more non-'ling OCs, I figured it might be a good idea to make a list of all the various species included so far in Splatoon!
All species with only a few members are listed with those examples next to them, including where they're from. This is so it's easier to look them up and find examples of the species on Inkipedia, so you can get a guide faster :p

Watched Raggedy Ann & Andy from 1977. My first time seeing it & did no pauses or repeats. I will waltxh it alahn try to remember it and describe beforr and after but in the future and see what that is like.
Tumblr media
For now , here is my synergy summary. Just from memory. No video.
An unexpectedly 3D girl goes into her house with her doll, Raggedy Ann who goes into 2D Toyalive world and becomes Raggedy Stacy becsusr I regicise her voice actor Didi Conn. Raggedy Andy sings about his toxic masculinity. It is 3D girl’s birthday and a huge presebr fals on Raggedy of the East is crushed under a box with a fancy doll named Babette. Inside.
Babette sings “A Flat in Gay Paris” from”Les Miséranimals” and a captain freezing inna snowglobe breaks loose and kid aps Babette to… ewww.
So the Raggedys go aft to them. After them. They find a blue camel who I think smoked some blue dream because he gets the rainbow eyes and fantasizes about a whirling column of ethereal camels going “HOME.”
They go up and down some hills made of person made of candy who is constantly undulating. Person Greedy wants a sweetheart so they join the group
wait. HILD THE PHONE. Camel is looking for a HOME. Greedy wands a sweetHEART (that he is prepared to cannibalize Raggedy Stacy to get).
Then run into a TIN MAN knight, Sir Paul Lynde, Order of Templerpn. Who is weaeorknf no pants ewww eewww but he’s going to lead them to the Queen of hearts I mean the King of Heads.
WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT Raggedy Whiny is Raggedy Stacy’s brother? eewwww for crying in the beer what is this eeww I don’t know that I even thought they were a couple. Just the thought that they’re brother and sister and sister ally writes weirds me out for some of the waonS. Reason.
Because his HEAD gets big because he’s… a short king! My dad once told me the true story of the short king. So this megalomaniacal monster tortures people with pranks forever. It’s like if Time Squad did an episode about Hitler wanting to be a TikTok star.
They escape from the spontaneous perpetual pie launching device (catapult trebuchet whatevs) into a rainbow tiki hut with a fruit by the foot tongue.
Meanwhile,
Later, they’re riding kn t he water closing in on the acaptain’s galleon. And the Short King is re-enacting his he jump the shark. Then
Surprise! Babette now rules with an ire on fistZ. Captain Cold Cuts is stuck in the brut. Brig. And the Short King summons a green lava lamp demon who may or may not also be the Greedy? To do something. They’re sailing on the dsew sea and then all of a sudden they’re in the 3D wet garden and there’s a mess of toy bits.
The girl picks up the ship and calls it the captain’s ship. But she doesn’t seem surprised that it’s out of the snowyoobe or not with the captain or in the midst of this mess: only that this one ship is outside.
They come in, Mater the Camel gets a home, Babette decides to stay and… gets involved with the captain? Well, who am I to judge. I’m a little uncomfortable that he kidnapped her before, but she kidnapped him back so, I guess that’s just what they’re into.
Raggedy Stacy and Raggedy Useless are back in the room where lkttle children dream magical stories about dreamland and things are super normal all the time. But what happened to all the people along the way who wanted things? Only the captain can have what he wants? And maybe the 3D girl? Or is this the thin line of time and we’re batting aside like cats the alternate future of those endings.

For your 'Send me silly Descendants prompts, pretty please.'
Chad's younger sister, Chloe Charming the sporty perfectionist friend of Red from the pocket watch, is much younger than him.
And he loves to make her and Dizzy laugh.
Thank you, this was fun!
I accidentally added Anthony, because Anthony and Chad pretending they can stand eachother for the sake of their sisters/cousins is simply too much fun and I like it.
I hope you like this little story, too!
Chad theatrically crowns himself with a fake crown – the same one that he printed all the way back on Carlos's 3D printer – and declares:
„I am King Chad Charming the Great, ruler of this magical realm!“
His little sister Chloe giggles and reaches out to straighten up the crown and the cape, which he might or might not have put on sideways deliberately. He crouches down so she could reach more easily.
Dizzy Tremaine, Chloe's new favourite playmate, on the other hand, seems to be frowning. Weird.
„Isn't that, like, high treason?“ the Isle girl asks, and, excuse me, what?!
He glances over at Anthony Tremaine, who in true Isle kid fashion refused to let Dizzy go alone, mostly out of pure paranoia, and also just to annoy Chad, and who is now smirking. That prick.
He covers his mouth with his hand as soon as he notices Chad looking.
Before Chad can figure out how to respond to being accused of treason over childish game, his sister takes care of it:
„No! It's just playing pretend!“
„That means it's not real and doesn't count,“ he adds just to be sure.
„Oh!“ Dizzy brightens up, „Like when CJ and Harry kidnaped me and threatened to feed me to the sharks if Anthony and Harriet don't kiss!“
…Chad is starting to be mildly concerned.
The sight of his suddenly blushing step-cousin is worth it, though.
As Tremaine does not seem to be up for an answer, Chad decides to get back to the game.
„I am a famous hero, for I have slayed many terrible beasts-“
He plans to pretend Chloe and Dizzy are the beasts and to chase them around for a bit.
Chloe has different plans, though.
„I think you'd make for a fine princess, though,“ she says, „And I'd be the knight rescuing you from the vile monsters!“
…Or he could be a princess. That works too.
„I'm a princess, locked up in a tall tower, guided by the horrible dragon that has kidnaped my from my parents,“ he laments, straightening the ill-fitting crown yet again, „Whatever will I, abandoned maiden, do? Whoever will save me?“
He chooses to ignore snickering Anthony and instead focuses on the giggling girls.
He breaks the character a bit to smile at them, before wringing his hands in exceragated distress again.
„Wait, no, not yet!“ decides Chloe suddenly, „You must look like a princess first! We should give him a makeover, don't you think, Dizzy?“
Sure. Makeover. Sounds fun.
„Can we?“ Dizzy looks at him with wide eyes, immediately copied by Chloe, and, well, of course they can. They squeal with joy and bolt to Chloe's room, to get the „accessories“ and „make-up kit.“
Anthony tries to hide his laughter so hard that he gets a coughing fit, the bastard. Serves him right.
Chad glares at him across the room, which leaves the other boy utterly cold, which is absolutely not fair. Chad is a prince and his glaring should make people a little bit nervous, if nothing else.
The door flies open and the two girls run straight to Chad, dragging him down to sit. They chatter happily as they comb his hair and add frankly obscene amount of hair clips into it, before finishing the hairdo with Chloe's most sparkly and glittery tiara.
„Can I take a look?“ he asks, curious to see what they have done.
„Not yet!“ snaps Chloe. Okay, cool.
Anthony carefully schools his expression blank and then notes that „You should just be glad you lot don't have any dye around, man. Though pastel pink wouldn't be half bad on you, I admit.“
As Chad is still trapped on the chair by the girls and their make-up brushes, he settles for glaring at Anthony again. Up until Dizzy comes in with eyeshadow and he has to close his eyes.
„Why won't you make Anthony a princess, too?“ he asks sweetly. The little hands stop, hovering above his face, as Chloe and Dizzy contemplate.
„Absolutely not,“ refuses Anthony.
Yeah, no. If Chad has to suffer through make-up, so has Anthony.
„You wouldn't want to spoil their fun, would you?“ asks Chad slyly, having opened his eyes and staring at the other boy, very much implying he would be a bad older cousin if he refused.
„No, absolutely not. I'm not even pretending to be a princess.“
„Anthony, please!“ Dizzy.
„Pretty please!“ Chloe.
„Play with us, Anthony!“ Dizzy.
„Pleaseee–“ both of them.
Chad inwardly smirks.
„Fine,“ sights Tremaine, „I will play with you. I will be the foul beast guarding the princess in her tower and you will have to fight me.“
Over pouting Dizzy and cheering Chloe, he finishes: „I can put on my make-up on my own, thank you, and why, yes, I can fight, little princess. Wanna try?“
Chloe thinks it over a bit, while Dizzy settles for finishing Chad's eyeshadow. Chad still thinks that if Chloe put her leg down, she'd get Anthony to agree.
Probably.
Possibly.
Her wide eyes and excited little jumps work at Chad without fail, at any rate.
„Not yet,“ decides Chloe finally, „Do your make-up first and I'll find us suitable weapons.“
„The sparing ones, the ones that dad keeps in the chest for you – you know where, right?“ reminds Chad, just in case.
She just rolls her eyes and whines that yes, of course she knows, but, well, better safe than sorry. Judging by Anthony's curt nod towards him, this might as well be the first thing they ever agreed on.
Chloe and Dizzy are not getting hurt on their watch.
Dizzy finishes Chad's makeover and proudly drags him in front of the mirror, where Anthony is carefully applying dark smoke-eyeshadow and glittery highlighter and somehow pulling it off.
Almost as good as Chad.
„I look exquisite,“ Chad announces just as Chloe barges back in the room with an armful of training weapons.
„You look fine,“ agrees Chloe, and why, thank you.
„You, however, need help,“ she tells Anthony before sticking lipstick to his hand and a tiara at his head.
„I do NOT wear a tiara!“ protests Tremaine, taking it off his head immediately, „And I ought to be the monster, remember?“
So Dizzy snatches the tiara for herself and Chloe all but throws a sword at Anthony, who, unfortunately, catches it. Shame.
Shame all the more that he copes with Chloe's unconventional sparring approach quite well.
„Keep up!“ Chloe yells and suddenly, there is a sword in his hand too. So Chad joins the whirlwind, feigning a hit at his sister and stopping before he touches her.
„Am I not the princess?“ he asks, blocking Dizzy's hits – she is concerningly skillful for such a tiny little thing.
„Not anymore!“ announces Chloe brightly.
„The princess turned evil!“ cheers Dizzy.
And, well, that works.

Saw this video game tag thing pop up on my dash a few days ago. Wanted to do it.
1. First game you played obsessively? Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I believe I was 5yo. Still waiting on that FF7 Remake treatment.
Tumblr media
2. A game that has influenced you creatively? Writing, drawing, etc. Well if I play a game and like it, then I'll create sims of it. Does that count?
3. Who did you play with as a kid? My brother from the day I was born.
4. Who do you play with now? My brother FROM THE DAY I WAS BORN.
5. Ever use cheat codes? I wasn't lying when I made this post. {link}
6. Ever buy strategy guides? Yes! Mainly to look at the artwork though. (Don't need no guide!)
7. Any games you have multiple copies of? Lots of games, most being Left 4 Dead with 6 copies (3 Xbox 360, 1 PC case, 2 PC digitally.) What can I say, its a GOOD GAME!
8. Rarest/Most expensive game in your collection? Gold cartridge Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (maybe that's rare?)
Tumblr media
9. Most regrettable purchase? I don't regret my purchases, but I have received games I have never played like Cubix (PS2) no clue where that game came from, but I have it somehow. Madagascar (Xbox 360) came with my Xbox 360, never opened it from its case. And Monsters Inc. Scream Arena (Gamecube) or something... it was a gift.
10. Ever go to a midnight game release or stand in line for hours? No, because then I'd have to interact with people.
11. Have you ever made new friends from playing video games? I'm only friends with people BECAUSE of video games, so yes.
12. Ever get picked on for liking games? No, that'd be ridiculous.
13. A game you’ve never played that everyone else has? Probably a lot, I'd say Call of Duty, but I technically played CoD 1, 2, and 4. The campaign mode was alright, but I don't really care for CoD games at ALL.
14. Favorite game music? Koji Kondo and Grant Kirkhope are two BIG ones.
15. If it was a requirement to get a game related tattoo, what would you pick? Triforce is the most basic option, but I'd rather not get a tattoo.
16. Favorite game to play with your friends IRL? Super Smash Bros. Brawl with hacks, but that was over a decade ago.
Tumblr media
17. Ever lose a friend over a game? No, that'd be ridiculous.
18. Would you date someone that hates gaming? No, that'd be RIDICULOUS.
19. Favorite handheld console? PSP. 3DS is great, but PSP Monster Hunter has ALL of my portable gaming memories. Like playing in school after End of Grade tests with my friend.
20. Game that you know like the back of your hand? Sims 4 I like to think I know everything about Left 4 Dead. Quite a bit about Monster Hunter, more so of a series though than a specific game.
21. Game that you didn’t like or understand as a kid but love now? I'd say Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. I loved it as a kid, but had a lot of complex pen & paper RPG mechanics that I never understood. I understand a lot more of it now, but its still complex as all heck. I just know you hit things, they die.
22. Do you wear game related clothing/accessories? That's the only thing I wear.
23. The game that you’ve logged the most hours into? Not sure so I'll list a few. Sims 4, Smash Bros. Brawl, Monster Hunter (its a series though), or Left 4 Dead
24. First Pokemon game? Leaf Green
25. Were you ever an arcade game player? No, don't like paying to play.
26. Ever form any gaming rivalries? No.
27. Game that makes you rage? I don't get mad at games, but I had a custom modded Hard Eight mutation in Left 4 Dead that is absolute bullsh*t!
28. Ever play in a tournament? No, because then I'd have to interact with people.
29. What is your gaming set up? A giant wall of video game consoles spanning from NES to Switch, 4 TVs, but I sit at a desk with a PC.
30. How many consoles do you own? "I own every console that's ever existed." - I Don't Play Games When I Play Games (My STRENTH) original song by Smooth McGroove BUT no seriously I own 32 consoles including handhelds.
31. Does the 3DS and/or Virtual Boy hurt your eyes or give you headaches? Yes. 3DS gave me headaches though I only really played with the 3D feature in Ocarina of Time 3D. I think my eyes broke because I couldn't get my 3D to work very well after.
32. Did you ever play a game based on your favorite show/cartoon/movie/comic? Sure I play games based on a lot of things. Literally any anime game. If I had to pick Dragon Ball Xenoverse is kinda like a dream Dragon Ball game. Oh, Attack on Titan 2 is pretty neat too!
Tumblr media
33. Did you ever have any bootleg games or plug-n-play games? Some SEGA plug-n-play thing once. Played it like once and now its lost to time (or my closet.)
34. Do either of your parents play video games? Yes. Mom and Dad played NES Super Mario Bros. My Dad went HARD at that game until he saved the Princess. Then he quit forever.
35. Ever work in a game store? Or do you have a favorite game shop? "Hi. Welcome to Gamestop!"I never want to hear that again, but it was my main store until I went full digital/ online orders.
36. Have you ever shed actual blood, sweat or tears over a game? No, I don't tend to get upset or emotional, but Bill dying in Left 4 Dead made me pretty pissed.
Tumblr media
37. Have you played E.T. for the Atari 2600? Do you think that’s the worst game ever, or do you have another nomination? Never played it. I don't really play "bad" games, but maybe Sims 4.
38. A game you’re ashamed to admit that you like? The Sims 4
39. A sequel that you would die for them to make? Dragon's Dogma 2 WHICH I think is actually in development, so I'd have to say Fallout New Vegas 2. C'mon Bethesda you cowards, hand the keys back over to Obsidian so they can make another good Fallout game!
40. What to you think of virtual reality headsets or motion controls? Two part question, two answers. VR Headset to immerse in world, yes. Motion Controls, no.
41. A genre that you just can’t get into? MOBAs and MMOs. I don't like paying to keep playing.
42. Maybe it wasn’t your first game, but what was the game that started you on your path to nerdiness? Nintendo 64 opened me up to what video games could be as a kid. Sad to say my parents' NES didn't really do that for me. And years later Fallout 3 was a big game changer for me too.
Tumblr media
43. Ever play games when you really should have been concentrating on something else? Every day of my LIFE.
44. Arcade machine that has consumed the most of your quarters? None. I'd rather emulate.
45. How are you at Mario Kart? Pretty dang good. 3-STARS MARIO KART WII, BABY!
46. Do you like relaxing games like Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon? Yes, both of those. I preferred when Animal Crossing had more character to it. New Horizons looks so pretty, but feels so bland compared to classic AC.
47. Do you like competitive games? No. Not really. Usually amongst friends or if I can get competitive against AI Bots. I love my machine bot friends cause they don't cry like 10 year olds when they lose.
48. How long does it take your to customize your player character? Too long. I've seriously restarted games because I wasn't happy with my character's appearance.
49. In games where you can pick your class, do you always tend to go for the same type of character? Yes, I am always the magic man, my brother is always brute warrior, and my friend is the ranger.
Tumblr media
50. If you were a game designer, what masterpiece would you create? I don't really know. Honestly, I'd rather mod already good games to make them better than create something completely new.
51. Have you ever played a game for so long that you forgot to eat or sleep? No, that'd be ridiculous. But I've had a friend fall asleep playing games at my house 3 different times and currently dozes off during our Minecraft sessions. So, maybe that's not a completely ridiculous thing after all.
52. A game that you begged your parents for as a kid? Kirby 64 apparently. My brother tells me we had to count out pennies to buy it. I must've been too young with no recollection, but I believe it.
53. What’s your opinion on DLC these days? It's good if its not in the game's files from the beginning and is actually developed AFTER launch... and pre-order bonuses should be standard DLC a month or two later. Some games have content lost to time because of that pre-order bullsh*t.
54. Do you give in to Steam sales? Of course. If you want a game and its on sale then why not? I typically wait just for Steam sales to get games.
55. Did you ever make someone you hated in the Sims and did mean stuff to them? No? I typically make people and characters I like in Sims. I've made villains like Dio, but he's an anime villain and I don't really HATE him despite the horrible things he's done.
56. Did you ever play Roller Coaster Tycoon and kill off your guests? No. Never played that game.
57. Did you ever play a game to 100% or get all of the achievements? I try to for all the games I really like.
58. If you can only play 3 games for the rest of your life, which ones do you pick? The Sims 4, Skyrim, & Fallout: New Vegas. Mods make them live forever. Left 4 Dead and Monster Hunter are good choices too.
59. Do you play any cell phone games? Those aren't games.
60. Do you know the Konami Code? No? But I'll take a guess. Is it make an IP and forget it exists?
61. Do you trade in your games or keep them forever? Keep forever... even the bad ones.
62. Ever buy a console specifically to play one game? PS4 Pro for Monster Hunter World. It was basically for early access since the PC version was being developed and releasing after PS4, but I don't like waiting.
63. Ever go to a gaming convention or tournament? Sort of. Been to anime cons and walked into the gaming tournament rooms only to walk out less than 10 minutes later.
64. Ever make a TV or monitor purchase based on what would be best for gaming? No, but I'm going to be doing that soon, hopefully.
65. Ever have a Game Genie, Game Shark or Action Replay? Did it ever mess up your game’s save file? GameShark for N64, PS2, Gameboy, and Action Replay for Gamecube, DS, 3DS. And no not really, I would cheat responsibly... but there was this one time at school my friend and I borrowed another friend's Gameboy game, loaded it up with my Gameshark, tried playing, it crashed, loaded it back up, save file corrupted... we just stared at each other jaws dropped, "Here's your game back, dude. Make sure you don't play it til you get back home!"
66. Did you ever have have an old Nokia with Snake on it? No, but I remember seeing them on billboards in the game DRIV3R on PS2.
67. Do you have a happy gaming-related childhood memory you want to share? Every game I play is filled with happy memories (mostly.)
68. Ever save up a ton of tickets in an arcade to get something cool? These tiger plushes. My brother got white and I got orange. They were the coolest. Got a butt load of tickets from some jackpot spinning light game thing as I was good at the timing with repeated jackpot hits.
69. In your opinion, best game ever made? I've played quite a few masterpiece games, but to pick one, I'd say Fallout: New Vegas
Tumblr media
70. Very first game you ever beat? Super Mario 64. I was a mere child on a Sunday morning and ate celebratory pancakes made by my Dad.
Tumblr media
Wow, that was long... I get the feeling this was supposed to be a "send me ask with numbers" thing, but answering all at once is more fun.

Sonic the Hedgehog turned 30 years today.
In celebration, I downloaded all 3 classic games available for mobile and tried to get as far as I could before getting a game over.
For Sonic 1 it was Marble Zone Act 1, for Sonic CD it was the Collision Chaos boss and for Sonic 2 it was the Chemical Plant Act 2 boss.
I'm much better at these games on an emulator/PC, using the arrow keys rather than a controller (or apparently with the android touch controls) because that's how I've played them the most.
Sonic is probably the franchise I've (on and off) followed the longest and I remember fairly precisely when I played my first Sonic game: it was in my second year in school, but I stopped because the crusher section in Hydrocity terrified me and I couldn't get past it.
I also have vague memories of both of the most famous old cartoons and briefly trying the PC version of Sonic CD and Sonic 3D Blast.
My next notable experience with a Sonic game is actually the old Newgrounds game Ultimate Sonic Flash.
This is what opened the Sonic floodgates with other stuff for me, too.
Besides that game there were the flash animations like Nazo Unleashed and Super Mario Bros Z that also appealed to the Dragon Ball fan in me.
Through that stuff, I got into the Sonic Advance games and I was particularly drawn to Sonic Advance 2.
It's strange because Sonic Advance 2 seems to be considered the most "hold right to win" game in the Sonic Advance series, but I find the stages in that game to be the most satisfying to perfect and play.
I also dig Advance 1 and 3, but I remember having the most frustration with 3.
Discovering the Advance series lead me back to the Classic series. Sonic 1, CD, 2, 3 and Knuckles.
Somewhere around here, I also remember the demo for Sonic Adventure DX.
After that I got to the Rush games (which I also found satisfying to complete despite, again, being called "hold right to win" games).
I just found doing as good runs as possible to be satisfying to pull off.
Then I got to Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2.
I think I spent hours replaying and perfecting the Sonic Adventure 2 speed levels in particular. I think those games were absolutely worth it for just the replay value of Sonic's/Shadow's stages. Any frustration with the other gameplay styles was worth all of the play time I got out of those stages and I think the only truly bad gameplay style was Big's fishing stages.
Even then, in Adventure 1 all the other campaigns were also pretty short.
In Adventure 2, I think the only source of true frustration for me were some of Knuckles/Rouge stages.
I think the reason why the other gameplay styles are so frowned upon is that they're not what you come to Sonic for, but I think only Big actually controls badly in terms of the fishing mechanics – the frustrations really come from level design.
After those two comes Heroes, which I think could've been my favourite out of these "adventure style" games, but the controls just were too stiff to not get in the way of enjoyment.
The long stages would've actually been awesome instead of frustrating if I didn't have to fight the controls (and occasionally camera) along the way.
It had some great level design with some really good level themes.
But it just wasn't as responsive as I would've liked it to be and movement over-adjusted really often, leading to deaths and a bunch of frustration not of my own making.
If any game deserves a remake with better controls, I think it is 100% Heroes.
But I still did get some fun out of it when everything worked as well as it could. I kind of love the Haunted House level and all of the interesting things it did.
This is the point where I no longer could play the games for a while.
Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 06 and Unleashed HD are the games I've never gotten to play in this gap. But the only bit I'm truly actually interested in are the day stages of Unleashed.
I feel like they have the Rush games effect that despite some of the cheap stuff in those stages, they are very satisfying to complete.
The next games I got to play were Unleashed and Colours Wii (though I never got to finish Unleashed Wii). I like Colours Wii more than Unleashed Wii.
Colours might be mostly 2D and more "generic" blocky stuff, but I still had fun blasting through it.
Unleashed Wii's day stages didn't really have that satisfaction of perfecting the stages like the Advance or Rush stuff. The Werehog was okay and I think sometimes actually better than the day stages, so the game as a whole was just okay.
But I think Colours DS is my favourite of the "Rush-style" games. The Wisps are really satisfying to use and the level design is more involved and less "cheap" than in the other Rush games, where sudden spikes and death pits are much more common.
Somewhere in here is Sonic Chronicles. I actually liked executing the moves with the characters for a little bit, but not much else about it. I think it's the only game in the series to this point I truly dislike.
There are more like okay games, good games and great games in this series for me because it looks like I've managed to avoid the biggest duds.
The final two games in the series I've actually played chronologically are the PC versions of Sonic Generations and Sonic Mania.
And I think both are really good!
Generations still wasn't 100% there with the controls, but I think it was the closest to Adventure series controls. Probably my favourite 3D Sonic game next to Sonic Adventure 2. I spent ages replaying all of the stages. I adore all of the open space and alternate routes there.
Sonic Mania is the best game post transition to 3D to me, though and would maybe even tie for my favourite Sonic game with Sonic CD if it was completely new.
It fixed some of the dated level design of the classic games – unfair spring and spike placement is at an all-time low, it evolved the usage of shields in a really cool way and added some really interesting level-specific mechanics, my favourite is probably the bouncy gel in Chemical Plant.
I 100% want a completely original Sonic Mania 2.
I have not played Sonic Generations 3DS, Lost World, any of the Boom games or Forces.
All of which are supposedly okay/terrible, too and honestly even don't have anything interesting going on to catch my eye in footage. Forces especially looks frustrating to me because it just looks like hallways and doesn't even look to have the satisfaction of perfecting a stage the other boost games have.
I really seem to be in a position where I've missed all of the worst stuff.
I actually probably find Secret Rings and 3D Blast to be the worst Sonic games because I remember being the most frustrated with them. Chronicles is still just mostly boring.
Black Knight has the really satisfying spin slash attack and you can keep the flow and control Sonic much, much better.
In-between all of this I've tried some of the 8-bit games which I liked just fine, but which all really blended together.
I've also tried the Sonic 4 parts, which I also find okay. Not good Genesis-style games, but okay, functional enough Rush-styled games.
So I can say that I don't think Sonic has ever "jumped the shark". There are good old games and good modern games.
From leaks, the upcoming game at least sounds much more ambitious than some of the previous games like Forces or Lost World.
I predict something like Unleashed where there is a sound foundation in there, but it is unrefined, as there seems to be talk that it's another really big switch-up – it possibly being an open world game.
I think I really appreciate the series' willingness to switch things up even if it doesn't always work out.
The Classic, Adventure, Advance, Rush/Boost games all are very different styles.
I've had a lot of fun over the years with this series and I hope I'll have more fun in the coming years.
I think the Adventure + Heroes remakes are 100% overdue. Also please, Sonic Mania 2 with all-original stages.

Hulu New Releases: June 2021
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Hulu’s list of new releases for June 2021 is highlighted by a host of useful library titles and one fascinating original film.
The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!
Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much. If you count “FX on Hulu” as Hulu then June 17 sees the arrival of Dave season 2. Dave was one of TV’s best surprises last year and it’s nice to have it back.
After those two, it’s just a bunch of library titles. Thankfully, those library titles are fairly intriguing. Arachnophobia, The Dark Knight, Kick-Ass, and Slumdog Millionaire all premiere on June 1. Willy’s Wonderland, featuring Nic Cage’s battle against animatronic puppets, arrives on June 13.
Here is everything else coming to Hulu this month.

A Look At Stuff You Probably Never Heard Of: Blue Dragon (anime)
Last month, I took a look at the video game, Blue Dragon, which involved Hironobu Sakaguchi of Final Fantasy and Akira Toriyama of Dragon Ball. The two of which worked together on Chrono Trigger. This month, I’ll be taking a look at its anime adaptation. So today, I give you... well... Blue Dragon!
Tumblr media
The Blue Dragon anime was animated by Studio Pierrot (the same company that animated the Naruto series, as well as Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho) and directed by Yukihiro Matsushita, with music done by Megumi Oohashi and Nobou Uematsu, who also did music for many Final Fantasy games and composed for the Blue Dragon game. It initially aired on TV Tokyo from April 7th, 2007 to March 28th, 2008 across 51 episodes. It also got a second series that aired from April 5th, 2008 to March 29th, 2009. In the West, the anime was dubbed by Viz Media and licensed by Viz in the US and Manga Entertainment in the UK. In America, the first episode aired on Cartoon Network aired on March 28th, 2008..
Tumblr media
The plot differs greatly from the game.
Rather than his village being harassed by a Land Shark, Shu wants to become the apprentice of a Knight Master, a knight who became a master of combat. He gets excited upon hearing a Knight Master arrived in his village, thanks to his best friend, Kluke. They end up meeting a woman named Zola and her apprentice, Jiro; who, unlike in the game, wasn’t raised in the same village as Shu and Kluke. As a result, he’s not their childhood friend. Suddenly, Shu and Kluke’s village is attacked by soldiers of the Grand Kingdom and attempting to protect the civilians, Zola unleashes her Shadow, Killer Bat. Desperate to try and help, Shu inadvertently summons his own Shadow, the Blue Dragon, but can’t control it as it lashes out, attacking anything and everything, allies and enemies alike until Jiro summons his own Shadow, Minotaur, to subdue Shu, causing the Blue Dragon to vanish.
With the soldiers defeated, village in shambles, and Shu awakened to a new power, Zola offers Shu the chance to accompany her and Jiro on their journey, as the soldiers would be after the Blue Dragon and staying in the village would put the villagers in danger. Kluke accompanies them to make sure Shu is safe. Along the way, they meet a Deevee named Marumaro and a new character, a barmaid named Bouquet.
Tumblr media
The anime does a pretty good job imitating Blue Dragon’s style (AKA Akira Toyriama’s style) and does a good job translating 3D models into 2D animations. Easily the animation is at its best when a character summons their Shadow and during action scenes, as the animation company has quite a bit of experience with action scenes.
With all that done, it is once again time for the Final Recommendation: Never Let Go Of It||Get It||Hold Onto It||Try It||Consider It||Stay Away From It
While not a great adaptation, it does a decent job as is. But as stated before, this anime greatly changes the plot of the game, but keeps the main idea, Shu and his companions saving the world from Nene’s tyranny. However, they go about it in a much different way. The group doesn’t even encounter Nene until 14 episodes in as much of the previous episodes are about the group arriving in a new location and dealing with a no problem, be it Nene’s minions or something more benign.
Characters have also undergone some changes. Zola is more or less the same, but Shu is much more impatient and hot-headed with his “never give up” attitude coming of more like hot-headed stubbornness. And Jiro is your standard “cool guy rival who butts heads with the main character, causing the two to fight over pretty much anything” archetype. Kluke is far more short-tempered and rather than wanting to be a doctor, she’s obsessed with machines. And Marumaro is nowhere near as loud as in the games, but is much more perverted, falling under the same trappings as much other perverted characters in anime. And for a good few episodes, Shu struggles to summon and control his Blue Dragon, typically requiring a hit from Kluke’s frying pan to summon his Shadow, but has to be knocked out once his Shadow does on a rampage.
There’s also a new character named Bouquet, a ditzy barmaid who was being harassed by two customers before Shu and Zola fend them off. After being fired, she follows the group for a bit before officially joining their party, gaining a crush on Shu almost instantly. Her Shadow is Hippopotamus and she has the ability to turn invisible and even copy another person’s appearance.
And speaking of Shadows, unlike in the games, Shadows are actually able to speak. As in converse with others through spoken words. Each has their own personality and can freely speak with their User, other Shadows, and other living creatures. For example, Shu’s Blue Dragon was cold and distant, not respecting Shu as its Master. Kluke’s Phoenix is far more gentle, offering advice when available and will often bend an hear to her Master when Kluke simply needs someone to talk to. And Bouquet’s Hippo is a complete coward who has no fighting capabilities whatsoever.
Before I end this, I’d like to mention that the English dub was heavily censored, mainly due to a good amount of Bouquet’s scenes being very fanservicey in nature, far more than what could be aired for children on Cartoon Network.
If you’re curious about the show, you can watch it on Hulu or on the Viz website, uncut. If you want to see the show as it aired on TV, you can watch it on YouTube. In fact, I’ll leave you guys with the first episode. I’ll see you guys next month!

(do NOT reblog or I’ll delete the post and block you)
This past week I’ve really felt like I might be relapsing. I’ve been back on my nocturnal (i.e. normal for this hemisphere) sleep schedule for a while now, which leaves me constantly tired; I haven’t felt in the mood to eat anything, though I’ve been forcing myself to do so anyway at least; I’ve been finding it harder to think of myself as pretty or cute when I look in the mirror; my depression and anxiety have felt like they’re kicking up again despite the Lexapro, and the negative intrusive self-talk has gotten worse, to the point where I just blurted out, “I’m so stupid” one night for a simple mistake, and it took a moment before I corrected myself with, “No, I’m not stupid, I’m actually quite smart and intelligent, it just slipped my mind because I’m tired.”
This morning it was bad enough that I was actually fretting on my way to work about, what if the Lexapro is losing its effectiveness? I’m on a 10mg dosage now. We can still increase to 20mg, but I’m pretty sure that’s the limit. And even if it wasn’t, can it lose its effectiveness over a mere two months? Where does that leave me, if so? I don’t want it to lose its effectiveness. I want it to keep helping me. I need it to keep helping me.
All of that said, this evening I got a clue that my shark week is I think just starting (like this is the very very first day of it, not even the first full day), and when I realized that, my reaction was just, “Ah.” If that is the case, that . . . probably explains things, and also means that the Lexapro is likely not losing its effectiveness. That’s a relief.
But I still also have to remember that even if I relapse some, that doesn’t mean I’ve failed, or that it’s a permanent failure. If you’re climbing up a mountain, and you slip and fall back down part of the way, you can still climb back up. It will be painful, and hard, but so long as you’re alive---so long as I’m alive---I can do it. Relapses are a normal part of the recovery process, and recovery like what I have to go through is an ongoing journey without an end. I just have to keep climbing, and try not to feel too badly about myself during the periods when I slip and fall. I can climb back up, and get back to where I was, and I deserve to. I deserve to make and have that progress, and I don’t deserve to be hurt or treated badly, least of all by myself. I need to be in my own corner first and foremost, so my brain needs to start giving me consistent positive self-talk instead of negative. I need to keep working on that. I need to keep climbing.
Though I will say that certain recent events have had me thinking about my childhood and adolescence again, and the abuse I went through back then that left me with the C-PTSD I’m constantly trying to recover from now. And it’s little things from back then, too, like---there were really, really bad incidents, and some really, severely fucked up times I went through, and stories that are too personal or painful for me to share here (both because I don’t like thinking about them, but also because I don’t like to hand them over to others to use against me, as has happened in the past). But it’s also little things, like---I like to get physical copies of video games so that I can have the game cases lined up on my media shelf. I have the actual game cards in my Switch carrying case, so I can have them with me wherever I have my Switch, but I like having the cases on the shelf, and seeing them all lined up there. Counting them off, you know. And I was thinking about why I like this. I don’t think I’m a materialistic person, generally; I do want my house to look cool, but I’m not one of those people who, if I won the lottery, I’d by a sixty room mansion and fill it with pointless, but expensive, garbage. I’d keep my same place, my same car, all that. I don’t really want a life of luxury, I just want to live comfortably.
So I’m not overly materialistic, and I don’t value collecting things for the sake of collecting them . . . but I like seeing my cases lined up on the game shelf, and I’m just as excited to add more cases to that shelf as I am to play the new games as they come out. (Also, I wish that games like Celeste and Night in the Woods would get physical releases so I could add those cases to my shelf as well.) I was thinking about why this is, and I realized that it’s because I never had a lot of games in my youth. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve owned a lot of video game consoles in my life time, but for every console or handheld I had, I usually only had a handful of games. Like, I had six games for my N64 growing up. I think that back when the Gamecube was actually relevant, I had about seven games, and even then, over my lifetime I only got that number up to about twelve. And this isn’t a Dudley Dursley kind of temper tantrum competition game, wherein I whine about just not having enough games, because I did like and appreciate the games I had. But like, with the N64, I had those six games, and meanwhile my brother had over thirty to choose from. This was because I lived with my biological mother, whereas he lived with my dad and (step)mom, and our economic situations were very, very different. (Read: My biological mother was dirt poor and spent any money we did have, including the child support, on herself, whereas my brother had the middle class lifestyle with three parents and tons of extended relatives who doted on him and gave him anything he wanted.) And I never complained about this back then, but I remember feeling so impressed when I opened up his N64 cartridge case whenever I was at my dad’s house and saw all those games to choose from, whereas when I opened my own cartridge case (identical to his), it was . . . much emptier.
And then with the Gamecube (which I got later than everyone else because even though my dad sent me money to get one as a Christmas present, my biological mom took that money and spent it on herself), there was an extra level of messed up because my biological mom decided to run a scam with Wal-Mart for a while. Basically what she would do is she would buy things with a credit card, and then return them later to get cash money that she could then spend on necessities. (Why she didn’t just buy the necessities with the credit card instead of racking up credit card debt I don’t know. I stopped trying to figure out her thought processes a long time ago.) The reason why this is relevant to the story is because she decided the best way to do this was with video games. So when I was about thirteen, she told me to go to the games section and pick out a few games. I very excitedly ran over and picked some out, so happy I was getting to add some new ones to my library, and I remember specifically that Mario Kart: Double Dash was one of them, because I had wanted that for a very long time. We bought the games and went home. And when I went to go put Double Dash in to play it, she told me I couldn’t do that because we were going to return them. I was hurt and confused. I didn’t understand. And when I questioned her, she grew furious that I was back talking and arguing. I guess the one benefit is that I knew to choose games I wasn’t actually interested in the next time she used me to run the scam.
Anyway, this is all relevant because I wanted a bigger games library growing up, and I just didn’t have the opportunity to have it. Even after I moved out of her house, I never wanted to ask my parents for too much, not only because I felt the answer was likely to be “no,” but also because I was just grateful that Shiloh and I were away from my biological mother. And even after I started working, and especially after I moved out of my parents’ house and into my own apartment, I still didn’t have a lot of disposable income to spend on video games. Not only that, but I usually got new systems a couple years behind everyone else (with the 3DS being the first exception, but even then, I didn’t have a lot of disposable income at first so I couldn’t keep up with the library the way I wanted to), so trying to figure out which games to buy was a nightmare. The result of which being, although I helped form my university’s video game club back in my sophomore year (I was nineteen), I felt like the weak link of the officer squad. I loved video games, and I was pretty good at a lot of them, but I also was so inexperience compared with everyone else, who had way more games than I did.
But with the Switch, it’s different now. I got the Switch on launch day thanks to Christmas money allowing me to preorder it, and although I’m still supporting myself and still struggle bussing every month, the games I want are usually either a bit cheaper (such as Hollow Knight being only $15), or they’re spaced out enough so that I can afford them (+ I have credit cards I can use). Since I’ve had it since launch and I’ve been in this position since launch, I’ve been able to keep up with new releases. My library still isn’t huge (I have nine physical games, plus three digital that I love---and one of those digital games is getting a physical release in spring), but it’s growing, and I know I’ll add more games to it in the coming months. And I guess it’s important to me not because of materialism or anything like that, but because it’s symbolic that I’m at a place in my life now where I can grow this library, where I can do what I always wanted to, but never could as a kid. When I buy games myself, I know they’re mine, and no one can take them from me. And I’m here, in my own house, with my own media shelf (that I wallpapered with special starry paper I bought at Nijo Castle in Japan), and all of this---the house, the media shelf, the games---represent how far I’ve come, and how far I continue to go. And I know that’s weird, that I’m using a growing video game collection as a symbol of recovery because of rather small parts of my abusive childhood and adolescence (and again, I’m not saying those things were the worst I suffered, because they by far were not, but I’m not sharing the details of the worst things for personal reasons), but I’ve been thinking about it nonetheless and I think that’s how my brain has processed all this as I move through recovery.
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for tonight. Reminder to NOT reblog this, or I’ll delete the post and block you, thanks.

My top 10 least favorite bosses.
I love boss battles, they are a great way to challenge the player and to wrap up a level or a game. Not all bosses are made equal though, for every great boss there is a mediocre one as well. These bosses got on my bad side due to various reasons. Now, this list is subjective and my opinion, not every boss on this list is terrible from a design standpoint, and there may even be some on this list you may not agree with. This is fine, your free to have your favorites or least favorites. In fact, I would love to see your least favorite bosses in the comments if you would please. Secondly, no bosses from my top 50 list will be on this list. This is to avoid redundancy. Lets take a look at some of my least favorite bosses.
NUMBER 10 - Xande (Final Fantasy 3)
Tumblr media
This just goes to show that not every boss on this list is bad. On a purely technical note, Xande is a perfectly fine boss, however to describe this foe in one word would be “disappointment”. Xande is built up as the ultimate bad guy in Final Fantasy III. His magic literally tearing the world apart and just causing havoc. He is so strong that approaching his tower before it is time results in a game over. He seems to be almighty, or so you would believe. After conquering one of the longest and most difficult dungeons in one of the hardest numbered Final Fantasy games, Xande is just lackluster. He is an incredibly basic magic oriented boss with lukewarm stats, he is barely threatening. His death introduces the true final boss so he just serves as a Segway to the cloud of darkness. Despite being the primary antagonist of Final Fantasy III, he isn’t even given a spot in the dissidia roster. Talk about a let down.
How this boss could have been better – Beef him up to final boss status and just get rid of the could of darkness.

NUMBER 9 - Ghost of Lady Comstock (Bioshock Infinite)
Tumblr media
This boss is an infamous one for sure. I am one of those people who was disappointed by Bioshock Infinite. It was a great game but it just lacked the special atmosphere that made Bioshock 1 great for me. Enemies felt more bland and uninspired, and the ghost of lady Comstock is a boring boss to take down. The battle drags on forever with the ghost just teleporting around and constantly reviving fallen enemies to fight alongside her. She is fought several times and each time she is just annoying. She can take a lot of punishment and it is hard to break her out of reviving everyone you just defeated. Whats worse is that my game crashed the first time I beat her, causing me to have to fight her twice, then the second time my power went out! I fought this boss more times than necessary…and I didn’t like it at all.
How this boss could have been better – If it weren’t so long…

NUMBER 8 – Final boss (Ninja Gaiden II)
Tumblr media
There are a number of bad NES era bosses. Though I cannot necessarily say its totally unforgivable, because of the era there was no norm, no bar that was set when it came to boss quality. Though, what is bad is when you take a pre-existing boss that was fine and make it worse. The final boss of Ninja Gaiden II for the NES is a three part endurance test. The first form is a humanoid enemy that floats around shooting tons of fireballs and is a general nuisance to hit. The second form is a large room with a ceiling that drips dangerous liquid and a giant head that shoots lasers, this part is tough and can drain health fast. Stage three is essentially a repeat of the final boss of the first game, now with hands. After destroying its head, you must destroy its core while it shoots attacks everywhere. What makes this so bad? YOU NEED TO DO THIS WITH ONLY ONE HEALTH BAR! If you die, you need to redo the final stage, its unnecessarily punishing.
How this boss could have been better – If it either restored health between stages or allowed you to restart from the beginning of the fight.

NUMBER 7 - Krauser QTE fight (Resident Evil 4)
Tumblr media
Ill keep this one brief because most gamers know about this fight. Resident Evil 4 is an action horror game with occasional quick time events. Up until this point these events were for either outrunning boulders or avoiding enemy attacks during fights. This fight occurs during a cutscene and comes out of virtually nowhere. The window of time to react is very small and a single error will cause you to have to restart the cutscene. Its just so out of place and unnecessary…
How this boss could have been better – It could have been an actual fight…

NUMBER 6 - Alpha 152 (Dead or Alive 4)
Tumblr media
Fighting game bosses can be some of the most unfair and frustrating things a gamer has to overcome. While the majority of final bosses from fighting games could make this list, I decided to pick Alpha 152 from DOA4. Alpha is a clone of Hitmone, but her moveset is unique. She can turn the battle on its head at any moment and cut your health down to nothing in one massive combo. She is fast, she is aggressive, she can counter most attacks and she can teleport. The combos I mentioned are insanely long and hard to avoid. She serves as the final boss for most characters story mode, in story mode she isn’t as bad. In arcade mode however, she is a nightmare, her aggression is through the roof and she must be defeated twice in order to win! This boss is frustrating to fight and can be downright unfair at times. Nothing stings worse in DOA4 than having her down at 10% health while you have high health, only to be destroyed by her.
How this boss could have been better – If her combos were toned down just a bit.

NUMBER 5 - Doc Robot (Mega Man 3)
Tumblr media
Doc robot is perhaps the most unnecessary boss of all time. This dude is a cheap gimmick made to try to expand the run time of Mega Man 3. You have to fight him 8 times, 8 times! Each time he gets a new gimmick stolen from the Mega Man 2 robot masters and uses them in a far more annoying way. He tends to just hover over you to deal continuous damage, which is something I really do not like. This boss is just pointless padding and gives no reward to be beaten. I don’t like this boss because he is annoying and overstays his welcome.
How this boss could have been better – If he were encountered once, but used multiple boss attacks, it would have been much more memorable and tolerable.

NUMBER 4 - Gyorg (Majora's Mask)
Tumblr media
This is referring to the N64 version of Gyorg, because the 3DS version is substantially better. Gyorg is the worst boss of the worst temple in Majora’s Mask. A giant shark like monster that swims around a platform that Link is standing one. While on the platform, the beast will try to knock Link into the water, so they can eat him. In order to beat Gyorg, you have to use the Zora mask and fight it underwater, occasionally stunning it to hit it. Here lies the problem, your underwater so your dealing with those kind of controls. The second problem is that Gyorg recovers to quickly and the camera tends to shift away from them when you try to escape, often meaning you get eaten. So basically the camera ruins this boss and makes it a total chore to fight. I had to restart the great bay temple at least 3 times because I ran out of time trying to beat this thing on my first run of Majora’s Mask oh so many years ago…
How this boss could have been better – It actually is better in the 3DS remake, Nintendo learned from their mistakes.

NUMBER 3 -Elana The squalid Queen (Dark Souls 2)
Tumblr media
This boss was perhaps the most sour point of the Crown of the Sunken king dlc. To make a long story short, shes a shard of a great evil named Manus and is probably responsible for the downfall of her kingdom. Shes essentially the main antagonist of the DLC even though she is overshadowed by the Dragon. The first gripe with her is the fact that, unless you know where a secret bonfire is, dieing to her will send you back far. She fights similar to the final boss, but has a knack for teleporting around and using magic attacks when your not looking. This isn’t so bad, but she has a lot of health, does a lot of damage and summons help. The summoning is why I hate this boss, she summons enemies that can inflict toxic. She can summon skeletons, which is not so bad, but she can also summon another boss that can tear you apart. This boss is badly designed and is one of the bosses that made me legit angry. I was extremely relieved when I finally bested her, only to meet a dragon face to face literally a minute after.
How this boss could have been better – Just get rid of her summoning ability, its just not fair having her summon another boss.
**********
NUMBER 2 - Sir Arthur (Sonic and the Black Knight)
Tumblr media
King Arthur is the primary antagonist for the majority of the mediocre Sonic and the Black Knight. His presence is virtually none-existent until the boss fight. He fights you on horseback and spends most of the fight running away and pestering you with magic and warping swords. If he gets enough distance he will turn around and charge.  All of his attacks are annoying but not very hard to dodge or avoid. So why is he this high on the list? Three words… Quick Time Event. In order to damage him you have to swing the wii mote to parry him. The timing is almost inhumanly precise and more often than not it doesn’t matter if you do is spot on, you will fail. If you beat the game you know which QTE in particular makes this boss horrible. If you don’t, watch the game grumps play through, because it shows this boss’ absurdity at its greatest. This boss is for me the worst sonic boss yet.
How this boss could have been better – If the quick time event was removed, this boss would be off the list. Though even then it would still be a very mediocre boss.

NUMBER 1 - Clyde's Machine (Pac Man World 2)
Tumblr media
This is a boss I despise. Clyde’s machine is the third ghost robot boss and the fourth boss of Pac-Man World 2. These bosses can only be damaged by jumping on their heads, usually this isn’t to hard of a task, but Clyde ups the difficulty to 11. On an uneven platform surrounded by lava, a single misstep will result in a dead Pac-Man. And boy oh boy, how often that happens. Pac Man seems to just want to take a lava bath! You stand still, you die because one of his attacks pushed you in the lava. You move? You die because you fell into the lava. You stay in the middle of the platform? Isnt it wonderful how all his attacks just hit you head on when you do that? You try to rev roll? Hello Lava my old friend… The worst part is that even attacking him might send you flying into the pit for no reason. The only saving grace is that this boss has checkpoints…
How this boss could have been better – If it didn’t exist.
