Astrid

Who are the people your OC considers their closest confidants? Do those people feel the same way?

Beryl (Gliss's adopted son and crown prince of his crime empire/planet) is by far her closest confidante. Beryl sees her as a surrogate mother figure, but because he wasn't raised with her, he has the distance to still see her as her own person. They share a similar existential experience of outliving everyone they know and love. It puts him on a different level, compared to other people she trusts, such as Ayo or Osi.

On a purely practical level, Beryl can withstand truly mind-boggling levels of torture, thanks to Gliss. Her secrets are safe in that regard. Beryl's hatred of Gliss and inability to connect meaningfully to almost anyone else means he never has a reason to betray Astrid. She relies on this and his familial bond to her.

How does your OC fit into the narrative they belong to? Are they a protagonist? Antagonist? Side character?

She's definitely the main protagonist. I'm just making a sprawling multi-generational OFC-centric romp in the GFFA. It's not real art. When I do break pieces out into fanfics, she's both an unreliable close-third narrator and a protagonist. I'm not manipulating the reader's understanding of the plot with her unreliability, but their understanding of her character and everyone around her. Learning when to doubt Astrid and read between the lines of someone else's dialogue is (hopefully) a critical part of understanding the characters and how they change. Ideally, I'd like people to want Astrid to progress, to feel some connection to her.

What is your OC's bedtime like? Do they have any nightly rituals?

In college, before getting pregnant, Shaia's night routine was partying. She was a true party girl, and usually didn't fall asleep until the early hours of the morning. While Moralo was a baby, her night routine was in shambles.

When Moralo's a little older and sleeps through the night, Shaia has to create a new routine for a life she didn't expect to have. She generally helps Meyro clean the kitchen, smokes some space weed on the porch, and reads holomagazines until her girlfriend wants to go bed.

What kind of pet peeves does your OC have?

Repetitious noise really annoys her. Having a child was hell, in that regard. In that vein, lip smacking and eating noises bother her a lot.

She also hates the chirp Phindian children make. Chirping is a high pitched noise that should instinctively alert an adult that a child needs something. It's the transitional vocalization between a baby's babbling and actual words, but it's common to use as a shorthand well into childhood. The sound of it grates on Shaia, and she started trying to reprimand Moralo out of it almost as soon as he learned to talk.
