If I remember correctly, the Erins once stated that the Clans had been around about 40 years before TPB. Since Into the Wild was published in 2003, that means the Clans formed in the early 60s, which means DotC probably takes place in the late 50s/early 60s.

So, the monster that killed Shaded Moss probably looked something like this:
