Worldbuilding Wednesday
At last! The stars have aligned for me to draw maps. I’m not prepared to swear by the scale of these because I am not by any stretch and experienced mapmaker, but hopefully it will give a little supplement to the in-text descriptions. I’ll probably come back to this post to update the location markers as other points of interest (or anything east of the wall) come up in the story.
City Layout
Tumblr media
Early Settlement Period
Tumblr media
The earliest iteration of Wall was a carefully planned community intended to use the available space as efficiently as possible while still allowing some room for future expansion. Despite having a habitable area of only about 3 acres, the use of high-density housing complexes meant the town was expected to be able to support approximately 8,000-10,000 people comfortably.
Points of interest:
1) Central distribution facility - direct elevator access between the city and the primary warehouse complex inside the seedfield, which sits at a higher elevation than the rest of the city.
2) City hall - situated in the center of the city, this was intended as a meeting place for the citizens for various events and programs, as well as an open forum for people to voice their interests and opinions on city operations.
3) Hydroelectric dam - a primary source of electrical power for the city, also often used as an outdoor gathering place due to the atmosphere of the waterfall and abundance of flora and open space around it.
4) Courier stations - city authorities had a three-checkpoint courier service which was responsible both for transporting resources throughout the city as well as facilitating communication between citizens.
5) Auxiliary storage and record-keeping - a dual-purpose complex which took advantage of the cooler temperatures at the city’s perimeter to store perishables and maintain a server farm holding a library of preserved old-world knowledge.
6) School campus - a full block of the city was dedicated to educational services, intended to raise citizens from childhood to working age and then provide trade education
7) Theater - a secondary public meeting space, less official than city hall and used largely for holiday gatherings and entertainment.
Hub entrances - the hubs themselves are underground and connected through a network of foot tunnels, with entrances from the street at regular intervals throughout the city. The cooler underground space allows the hubs to operate more efficiently, while the heat they output is channeled upward to provide warmth to the city overhead.
Present Day
Tumblr media
Although the exact details are no longer widely agreed on, disagreements over Wall’s operations led to a schism in leadership some 250 years ago, which compounded into a complete breakdown of the “planned community.” Despite gradual cooling of the terrain and a marked decrease in soil viability, the population has continued to grow exponentially, and although no census has ever been taken, estimates of the current population range anywhere from 300,000 on the conservative end to potentially as high as 700,000.
Points of interest:
1) CenFac and keeper barracks - the seat of keeper authority in the market district, and the only line of access to the city stores on the other side of the wall.
2) River distribution checkpoint - the main point of trade and communication between the keepers and river district representatives. Despite any conflict elsewhere in the city, an uneasy truce exists at this location.
3) Outer distribution checkpoint - the main point of contact for trade and communication between the keepers and the outer district residents. Also typically serves as salvage storage while the value of outer district trade goods is being assessed.
4) Night market - once a month, three streets are converted into an outdoor market for four nights. This is an incredibly popular social event in the market district, as well as a highly sought-after opportunity for tradespeople to reach new customers.
5) Kaori’s shop
6) Ozzy’s home and workshop
7) Temple’s studio
8) “The bottleneck” - generally regarded as the furthest western point in Wall that is still comfortably livable, although there are believed to be at least two hundred people living beyond this point.
Hub entrances - as surface area became more scarce, many people moved below ground to make their homes in the tunnels around the hubs, where it is often slightly warmer than above. As a result many of the foot tunnels are now inaccessible.
District Territories
Tumblr media
Market District: roughly the northern half of the city, fully under the jurisdiction of the keepers. The market district contains six hubs, as well as the entirety of CenFac, and keeper patrols ensure that no new construction can obstruct the major arteries allowing passage between CenFac, the hubs, and the distribution checkpoints.
River District: roughly the southern half of the city, with no centralized authority. The river district contains eight hubs, as well as almost the entirety of the river which flows from the hydroelectric dam (note: they do not have any control of the dam itself, as the height of the wall exceeds the maximum 12 stories of the structures around it). The major arteries in the river district are not strictly maintained and have been known to shift over time, however a clearance of 15 feet over the river is generally enforced to allow clear passage by skiff from the east to west end.
Contested Areas: The border between the market and river districts is somewhat nebulous, and can often come down to who is present in a particular area on a given day. A block at the eastern end has been a point of conflict, as both sides would like to secure control of one of the major core structures and the nearby hub. At the moment, the keepers have strengthened their hold on the core structure by populating the building with their own employees, however the river district maintains control of the hub. At the western end, the keepers have tentatively pushed their way south in an attempt to control the entire outer district border, in order to minimize salvage trade going into the river district. The incursion has been largely not tolerated by the river district.
The Outer Districts: Although the divisions are less clearly defined, the outer districts are generally split into the bottleneck, and the outer edge. The outer edge will sometimes be split between the northern and southern halves for ease of referencing where particular salvage originated.
The Dead Zone: Permafrost outside the seed’s influence, where the walls of the canyon fall away enough for the winds to reach up to 30mph. Inhospitable to life.

Types and Benefits of Cloud Computing to use in Agile
Tumblr media
Agile and cloud computing is today's upcoming and widely expanding trends in businesses and mainly in software development organizations. These changes and trends are the reasons for technological advances, increased processing powers, increased security, increased reliability of the internet, high bandwidth network access, and scalable storage area network.
We have already discussed in our previous article how cloud computing can be combined with agile and briefly explained its advantages. But only knowing how useful it is for agile is not enough when you are looking towards cloud computing as an option to improve the performance of your organization along with agile. When you are deciding to include cloud computing you need to know what are its types and in what way it provides the benefits to agile and organization. So today we will see the types of cloud computing for agile and also its benefits in detail.
There are five main types of cloud computing and three types of cloud service.
Types of Cloud Computing
Private
In a private cloud, only one individual or business uses the resources and storage using the private internet which has no access to the public. As it is private it provides a high level of security. It cost more than the public.
Public
It’s a type provided by a third party delivering service over the public internet to their clients. This cloud provides handles all issues or updates that require troubleshooting. Some providers give free service while some provide a subscription system where clients can select their required storage and cloud resources.
Hybrid
It is the combination of the private and public cloud where companies can select different ones for their options considering their requirement, using the private cloud for confidential business and data while using the public cloud for marketing and sales. It provides an organization with greater flexibility in operations and infrastructure.
Multi
This organization uses multiple cloud provider services. This type is used for improving security, and to use the separate cloud for different departments, workflow, or branches. But multiple clouds and separate infrastructure for each one make it challenging to share resources.
High-Performance Computing Cloud (HPC)
It provides services to high-performing applications, computers, and devices like supercomputers. It provides enough storage and server power to run the system along with other needs.
Types of Cloud Services
Software as a Service (SaaS)
In SaaS, cloud computing server organizations use third-party services by purchasing licenses that manage their hardware, software, infrastructure, and system updates.
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
PaaS provides the organization an opportunity to test, debug and manage applications in the cloud environment which are generally done by third-party providers. With PaaS organization controls the application’s management and deployment. Professionals in the coding field use it to create new programs.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
IaaS is more of a customized service that allows an organization to rent and control the cloud-supporting IT infrastructure. Businesses can access IaaS services and components to their advantage.

Privacy laws comparison
Privacy laws around the world vary significantly, reflecting cultural, legal, and societal differences. A comparison of these laws provides valuable insights into how different regions prioritize and protect individuals' privacy rights.
In Europe, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) stands as one of the most comprehensive privacy laws globally. Enforced in 2018, GDPR grants individuals extensive rights over their personal data and imposes strict obligations on organizations handling such data. It mandates clear consent for data processing, robust data protection measures, and severe penalties for non-compliance, with fines reaching up to €20 million or 4% of global turnover, whichever is higher.
In contrast, the United States lacks a comprehensive federal privacy law, relying instead on a patchwork of sector-specific regulations and state laws. States like California have enacted stringent privacy legislation, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), granting residents rights similar to those under the GDPR. However, the absence of a unified federal framework has led to inconsistencies and gaps in privacy protection across the country.
In Asia, privacy laws vary widely among countries. For instance, Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI) regulates the handling of personal data by both public and private sectors, emphasizing voluntary compliance and cooperation. Meanwhile, in China, the Cybersecurity Law imposes strict data localization and security requirements, often criticized for its potential to enable government surveillance.
Australia's Privacy Act governs the handling of personal information by Australian government agencies and some private sector organizations. It includes the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), which outline standards for the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.
Overall, while there are commonalities in the objectives of privacy laws worldwide, the specific regulations and enforcement mechanisms vary significantly, reflecting diverse legal traditions, cultural norms, and technological landscapes. Understanding these differences is crucial for businesses operating globally to ensure compliance and protect individuals' privacy rights.
Server locations analysis
Analyzing Server Locations: Enhancing Performance and Accessibility
In the realm of online operations, the significance of server location cannot be overstated. Every time a user accesses a website or application, their request is directed to a server that houses the necessary data and resources. The proximity of this server to the user plays a pivotal role in determining the speed and efficiency of data transfer, thereby influencing the overall user experience.
One of the primary reasons for analyzing server locations is to optimize performance. By strategically placing servers closer to areas with high user traffic, organizations can reduce latency and enhance website loading times. This is particularly crucial for businesses operating in competitive markets where even a fraction of a second delay can lead to a loss of customers.
Moreover, server location analysis is integral to ensuring global accessibility. With the widespread use of content delivery networks (CDNs), companies can distribute their content across multiple servers located in different geographical regions. This not only improves load balancing but also minimizes the risk of downtime by providing redundancy.
Furthermore, analyzing server locations enables businesses to comply with regional regulations and data privacy laws. For instance, certain countries have stringent requirements regarding the storage and processing of sensitive user data within their borders. By strategically placing servers in compliance with these regulations, organizations can avoid legal complications and safeguard user privacy.
In conclusion, server location analysis is a critical aspect of optimizing performance, ensuring global accessibility, and complying with regulatory requirements. By strategically evaluating and deploying servers in optimal locations, businesses can enhance the efficiency and reliability of their online operations, ultimately leading to a better user experience and increased competitiveness in the digital landscape.
Jurisdiction considerations
Jurisdiction considerations play a crucial role in various legal matters, determining which laws and regulations apply to a particular situation. In the legal context, jurisdiction refers to the authority of a court or government agency to preside over a case and make legal decisions. Understanding jurisdiction considerations is essential for individuals and businesses involved in legal disputes or transactions that cross national borders or involve multiple states or countries.
One key aspect of jurisdiction considerations is determining the appropriate court or regulatory body to hear a case. This involves analyzing factors such as the location of the parties involved, where the events leading to the dispute occurred, and any relevant agreements or contracts specifying the applicable jurisdiction. Failing to consider these factors carefully can lead to jurisdictional disputes, delays in legal proceedings, or unfavorable outcomes for the parties involved.
Additionally, jurisdiction considerations also impact issues such as enforcement of court decisions, choice of law provisions in contracts, and cross-border transactions. Different jurisdictions may have varying laws, procedures, and standards, which can significantly affect the rights and obligations of the parties involved. It is crucial to seek legal advice from professionals with expertise in international law or multi-jurisdictional matters to navigate these complexities effectively.
In conclusion, jurisdiction considerations are fundamental in the legal field, shaping the outcome of legal disputes, transactions, and regulatory matters. By understanding the implications of jurisdiction and seeking appropriate legal guidance, individuals and businesses can proactively address potential challenges and protect their interests in a globalized and interconnected world.
Speed performance evaluation
Speed performance evaluation is a critical aspect of optimizing digital experiences across various platforms and applications. In today's fast-paced digital world, where users expect instant access and seamless interactions, the speed at which a website or application loads and responds can significantly impact user satisfaction, engagement, and ultimately, business success.
When conducting a speed performance evaluation, several key metrics are typically considered to assess the overall performance of a website or application. These metrics include load time, page size, and resource utilization. Load time refers to the amount of time it takes for a webpage or application to fully load and become interactive for the user. Page size refers to the total file size of all elements required to render a webpage, including images, scripts, and stylesheets. Resource utilization measures the efficiency of server resources in delivering content to users, such as CPU and memory usage.
One commonly used tool for evaluating speed performance is Google's PageSpeed Insights, which provides a comprehensive analysis of a webpage's performance on both mobile and desktop devices. This tool evaluates various aspects of speed performance, including server response time, render-blocking resources, and image optimization, and provides suggestions for improvement.
Optimizing speed performance is crucial for businesses looking to enhance user experience, increase conversion rates, and improve search engine rankings. Slow-loading websites or applications can lead to higher bounce rates, lower engagement, and ultimately, lost revenue opportunities. By regularly evaluating and optimizing speed performance, businesses can ensure that their digital properties remain competitive in today's crowded online landscape.
User reviews and ratings
User reviews and ratings play a crucial role in today's digital landscape, influencing consumer decisions and shaping brand perceptions. With the proliferation of online platforms and e-commerce sites, consumers rely heavily on the opinions and experiences of others to make informed choices.
These reviews provide valuable insights into product quality, performance, and customer service, helping potential buyers gauge whether a product or service meets their expectations. Positive reviews can build trust and credibility for a brand, while negative reviews can highlight areas for improvement and prompt businesses to take corrective action.
Additionally, user ratings serve as a quick reference point for consumers, offering a snapshot of overall satisfaction levels. A high average rating signals a positive customer experience, while a lower rating may indicate potential issues that need addressing.
Businesses also benefit from user reviews and ratings in several ways. Firstly, they offer direct feedback from customers, allowing companies to understand their strengths and weaknesses from the customer's perspective. This feedback loop enables businesses to make data-driven decisions and prioritize areas for enhancement.
Moreover, positive reviews and high ratings can boost brand visibility and attract new customers. Many consumers actively seek out highly-rated products or services, and positive reviews can serve as endorsements that sway purchasing decisions in favor of a particular brand.
However, managing user reviews and ratings requires careful attention. Businesses must actively monitor and respond to feedback, addressing concerns and demonstrating a commitment to customer satisfaction. By engaging with users transparently and authentically, businesses can foster trust and loyalty among their customer base.
In conclusion, user reviews and ratings wield significant influence in the modern consumer landscape, serving as powerful tools for both consumers and businesses alike. Leveraging this feedback effectively can lead to improved products, stronger customer relationships, and ultimately, business success.

In conclusion, if you're in Canada and want to access Sling TV, using a VPN or Smart DNS service is your best bet. These tools can help you bypass geo-restrictions and enjoy all the live TV channels and on-demand content that Sling TV has to offer.
Geo-restrictions on Sling TV
Geo-restrictions on Sling TV are limitations that restrict access to the streaming service based on the user's geographical location. Sling TV is an online streaming platform that offers a variety of live TV channels and on-demand content to subscribers. However, due to content licensing agreements and regulations, Sling TV is required to enforce geo-restrictions to comply with regional broadcasting laws and agreements.
Geo-restrictions work by identifying the IP address of the user trying to access the service. If the IP address is located in a region where Sling TV is not available or where certain content is not licensed to be shown, the user will be blocked from streaming that content. This means that users traveling abroad or living outside the service area may find themselves unable to access their favorite shows or channels on Sling TV due to these restrictions.
To bypass geo-restrictions on Sling TV, users can utilize Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) or Smart DNS services. These tools allow users to disguise their IP address and make it appear as though they are accessing the service from a location where it is allowed. By using a VPN or Smart DNS, users can bypass geo-restrictions and gain access to the full range of content available on Sling TV.
It's important to note that attempting to bypass geo-restrictions may violate the terms of service of Sling TV and could result in the suspension or termination of the user's account. Users should always use VPNs and other tools responsibly and in accordance with the laws and regulations of their country.
Streaming services with VPN in Canada
Title: Exploring Streaming Services with VPN in Canada: Unlocking Global Content
In Canada, accessing a diverse range of streaming services can sometimes feel limited due to regional restrictions. However, with the advent of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Canadians can now unlock a plethora of content from around the globe right from the comfort of their homes. Streaming services coupled with VPNs offer users the opportunity to transcend geographical boundaries and delve into a world of entertainment previously inaccessible.
One of the primary advantages of using a VPN for streaming in Canada is the ability to bypass geo-restrictions imposed by streaming platforms. Services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ offer different libraries of content depending on the user's location. Liquidation Planning for IT Assets: Strategies for Maximizing Recovery
Tumblr media
In the corporate landscape, liquidation is an inevitable reality that businesses may face due to various factors such as financial distress, restructuring, or market shifts. When navigating the process of liquidation, one of the critical areas of concern is managing IT assets effectively. From hardware to software licenses, these assets hold significant value, and maximizing recovery during liquidation requires careful planning and execution. In this blog post, we’ll delve into key strategies for liquidation planning specifically tailored to IT assets.
1. Conduct a Comprehensive Inventory: Before embarking on liquidation, it’s crucial to conduct a thorough inventory of all IT assets within the organization. This includes hardware components such as servers, networking equipment, and computers, as well as software licenses, subscriptions, and intellectual property rights. A comprehensive inventory provides clarity on the assets available for liquidation and helps in assessing their market value.
2. Evaluate Asset Utilization and Condition: Assessing the utilization and condition of IT assets is essential for determining their resale value. Assets that are in good working condition and have been well-maintained are likely to fetch higher prices in the secondary market. Conversely, outdated or obsolete equipment may have limited resale value and may need to be disposed of through environmentally responsible means.
3. Prioritize Asset Recovery: Not all IT assets hold the same value, and prioritizing recovery efforts can help maximize returns during liquidation. Identify high-value assets that are in demand in the secondary market and focus on recovering them first. Additionally, consider the resale potential of software licenses, subscription contracts, and other intangible assets.
4. Explore Liquidation Channels: When liquidating IT assets, organizations have several options for disposal, including auctions, resale vendors, asset recovery firms, and online marketplaces. Each channel offers different advantages and disadvantages in terms of speed, convenience, and potential returns. Evaluate these options carefully to determine the most suitable approach for liquidating your IT assets.
5. Ensure Data Security and Compliance: Data security is paramount during the liquidation process, especially when disposing of hardware that may contain sensitive information. Implement robust data erasure procedures to securely wipe all data from storage devices before resale or disposal. Additionally, ensure compliance with relevant regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, or industry-specific data protection standards.
6. Negotiate Vendor Contracts: Review existing vendor contracts and agreements related to IT assets, including warranties, maintenance contracts, and software licenses. Explore opportunities to renegotiate or terminate these contracts to reduce ongoing expenses during liquidation. Negotiating favorable terms with vendors can help minimize costs and maximize recovery.

Outsourcing cloud development involves leveraging third-party provider services to develop and manage your cloud infrastructure. It covers the development, deployment, and upkeep of cloud-based programs and services.
The cloud service provider handles day-to-day cloud computing, interoperability, security, regulatory compliance issues, and processing enormous volumes of data in real-time, helping individuals to focus on their core business operations. Since cloud services are hosted and managed by third-party cloud computing vendors, users can benefit from scalability, pay-per-use billing, high availability, and resource flexibility. Therefore, there is no need for expensive onsite infrastructure maintenance.
Different Categories of Cloud Services
Cloud services can be broadly classified into four categories:
1.      Servers, storage, and networking are examples of the services the cloud computing service provides, known as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
2.      Developers can create, test, and deploy applications using Platform as a Service (PaaS), a cloud-based solution, without worrying about the supporting infrastructure.
3.      Software as a Service (SaaS) is a cloud service model where software applications are hosted by the service provider, typically on websites.
4.      A FaaS solution (Function-as-a-Service) enables programmers to deploy specific procedures or lines of code in the cloud and have them run in response to specific occasions or other triggers.
Benefits of Outsourcing Your Cloud Management
Here are some advantages of outsourcing cloud development to help you make that choice:
●       Cost Effectiveness
By contracting out the administration of your cloud development, you may get the best outcomes at the most affordable prices. By collaborating with a reliable cloud service provider, you can manage and lower the cost of network maintenance.

Understanding Key Factors while Selecting Cloud Development Outsourcing
Consider these factors when evaluating cloud service providers so you can determine which one to work with after a thorough evaluation:
●       Security
Businesses' top priority when considering cloud data storageis security. Therefore, you should evaluate each cloud service provider's cloud security capabilities and procedures to see if they can satisfy your organization's security needs. You must also confirm that they adhere to industry standards like ISO 27001.
●       Cost
Pay-as-you-go billing is the norm for cloud services, so you only have to pay for the resources you use. However, as different cloud service providers have different pricing structures, you must compare their costs before choosing one. You should also consider other elements that could affect the cost, such as bandwidth, cloud storage architectures, and support and maintenance services.
●       User Experience
User experience is another important factor to consider when using cloud services. The last thing you want is your staff to waste time learning how to use cloud computing platforms or applications. The cloud service provider must provide a simple and user-friendly interface that makes it easy to use by your employees and clients.
●       Functionalities and Features
Certain cloud service providers will provide varying features and functionalities. Before selecting a cloud provider, evaluate your company's needs and choose the one that can provide the features and functionalities you need. Making a list of every feature you require and selecting a few cloud service providers based on that list will be very helpful.
●       Support For Clients
Issues and problems will always arise, no matter how excellent a cloud service provider is. Choosing a cloud service provider also requires careful consideration of customer and technical support. The level of customer service provided by cloud service providers can vary greatly. Checking customer reviews of a cloud provider's services or getting in touch with the team to see how responsive they are will help you gauge the caliber of their customer support.
●       Migration and Implementation Support
The ability of the cloud service provider to assist with the implementation and migration process is another important aspect to consider. The last thing you want is to choose a platform that is too challenging to set up or migrate to. An essential consideration is choosing a cloud provider that can provide expert services to assist you throughout the entire process.
●       Release Cycle
It takes time and effort to set up a cloud environment. You will occasionally need to update and upgrade your system to keep up with the most recent trends and technologies. The stability of your cloud system will, therefore, be directly impacted by the release cycle of the cloud service provider. Although a cloud provider with a long release cycle is typically more reliable, it might not always be able to provide the most recent features and functions.
●       Exit Strategy For Vendors
Vendor lock-in is when switching from one service provider to another is difficult. Contract limitations, customized services, and exclusive technologies you order from the cloud service provider frequently cause vendor lock-in. Therefore, companies should utilize services that do not restrict their portability when switching vendors and migrating their data.
