SPOILERS FOR SHADOW AND BONE SEASON 2
I just finished watching Shadow and Bone season 2 and I have SOME things to say:
1. please don’t cancel this show I need the next season to start to adapt the six of crows duology and Zoya and Nikolai to have AT LEAST an actual conversation.
2. I can’t believe I went from finding David absolutely boring and uninteresting in season 1 to want to protect him in season 2 and feel devastated over his presumed death (and honestly PLEASE tell me that he actually survived the attack and he is just hiding somewhere because I can’t handle him being actually dead and Genya suffering so much, seriously give this poor woman a break).
3. I still stand by the fact Jesper is my favourite character among the crows and I honestly I not only found his relationship with Wylan absolutely endearing, but his scene with his mother was just absolutely heartwarming (however I’m still wondering what is the intended age of the characters in the show?? because I refuse to believe Freddy Carter’s Kaz Brekker is 17 years old, and same thing with Jessie Mei Li’s Alina).
4. Wylan. That's it. I absolutely adored him during this season and he deserves the entire world. And I can't believe he didn't have an interaction of sorts with David because I would have loved to see that. I can agree that wesper was a bit rushed and that it felt like it might diverge too much from now on from the six of crows duology...but I would be lying if said that I did not enjoy them this season.
5. I still personally find Alina’s plots kind of the most boring part of the show, but I can’t lie Baghra had me absolutely invested in that whole finding the firebird plot because she’s the queen of this show.
6. Probably the grishaverse’s worldbuilding might have become one of my favourites after watching season 2, like I absolutely adored Novyi Zem and how heavily present is the eurasian inspiration... However, I still have the question of what language exactly are the characters speaking in whenever they speak “in english” ngl.

Shadow and Bone (Season 2)
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
Shadow and Bone (Season 2, 2023, USA)
Creator: Eric Heisserer (based on the books by Leigh Bardugo)
Directors: Bola Ogun, Laura Belsey, Karen Gaviola & Mairzee Almas
Mini-review:
This season was f**king epic. That's the first word that came to mind once the credits rolled after the last episode. It's been a long time coming, but it was more than worth the wait. I've read some reviews criticizing this season for including too many plots and storylines, but I don't get it. Sure, there's a lot of stuff in just 8 episodes, but I think they mostly pulled it off. Pretty much nothing felt rushed. Also, there wasn't a single boring moment in any of the episodes. The whole thing just left me breathless in the best of ways.
As in the first season, I felt like the Crows stole the show a bit, but the S&B storyline was still very strong and entertaining. In fact, it left me wanting to read the trilogy right away (since I've only read the Crows duology). I must admit that I'm a bit worried about the Crows spin-off, since they already used some key plots and reveals in this season. But, at the same time, this sort of plot... remix worked amazingly. It's almost like a really fun piece of fanfiction. Anyway, despite my worries, I'm still very excited about the spin-off and a possible 3rd season of S&B. Netflix, please, renew/greenlight everything. Do not disappoint me any further.
Lastly, I want to commend some specific aspects of the show. The costumes, the sets and the CGI are as gorgeous as they were in the first season, or more. And the acting is... WOW. What a perfect cast. The casting director deserves the world, seriously. While everyone is great, the standouts this season were no doubt Freddy Carter (especially in episode 4, he gave me chills), Daisy Head and Patrick Gibson. So, overall, this was an amazing season of fantasy TV and I can't wait to see more.
P.S. Please, stop making TV shows so dark. There were scenes where I was just staring at my reflection in the screen, I couldn't see anything else until I turned off all the lights in the room.

Since you were talking about games, I know you're also a Dai Gyakuten Saiban/Great Ace Attorney fan (so am I! I followed you originally because you're into both it and BSD hehe), and I'm curious to know your thoughts on it! 💖 Who are your favorite characters/relationships/cases/parts? (My fave character is Benedict/Graydon. Yes I have a tendency to become obsessed with minor characters no one else cares about, oops) Did you play it with the Chronicles version (I assume so, like most people did) or are you an og who followed along with the fan translation like I did? One of the best/funniest parts of getting into that duology was coming across Souseki and being like "if I had a nickel for every time I've encountered a piece of media that had an anime version of real-life author Natsume Souseki, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice" lmao 😭
Since they're two of my favorite media, sometimes I try to imagine how a BSD/DGS crossover would work, and which characters would get along, though granted the only things they really have in common are detective work/mysteries, an old-fashioned aesthetic, and some similar themes lol... I just really love both of them a lot 🥹💖 Ryuunosuke and Atsushi being the exasperated straight men to the genius comedy duo that is Sholmes and Dazai? lmao (also Iris and Kyouka and their bunnies 🥹)
I need to play Hatoful Boyfriend. I've played lots of visual novels but that one is still on my to-play list (I don't know how seriously I'll be able to take it with bird sprites instead of actual human facial expressions, even though I fully trust that it is as good as its reputation says it is, but I'll just have to see for myself lmao)
Hsjfdnvskdf ok so I don't know what keeps happening to me with TGAA because I love it so much but I can't seem to write proper meta on it so. I just keep reiterating how much I like it lol. I got into it a bit later - I knew it existed almost since it came out in Japan but since I hadn't played original Ace Attorney, I avoided it for a long time. Then I saw a playthrough of the fan translation Case 1 and was hooked. By that point, I knew there was going to be a full English release so I waited for that because I wanted so badly to play it through! It's such a good game.
Oh, Graydon was interesting. That case was really fun, if it weren't for the fact that I figured out the key evidence really early and I kept trying to present it too soon aojsbsidhb. Graydon as a character was great because he's exactly as he appears but then there's just that bit more that fleshes him out and made him the slightest bit more sympathetic while not detracting from his actions. He was cool. (I actually had an idea for an after trial fic with him and the Skulkins but I don't think I'll ever get around to writing it :/)
Oh yeah I flipped out when I saw Natsume - my whole brain stopped (this was before my BSD obsession btw so this was very strange to me lol) and I shrieked out "NATSUME SOSEKI???" and my mom from the other room was just "???". yeah. And then he showed up again in BSD and I just said "...hi Natsume".
My favourites are the Mikotobas! Both Susato and Yuujin! They're such sweet people aghhhhh they deserve the world. But I really love all the main cast tbh. Ryuunosuke is such a dork but there's real personality to him, Sholmes is the perfect adaptation of that character, Gina should get all the puppies and friends she wants, and though I have some mixed feelings on him, I hope van Zieks gets a fucking break at some point (or just keep friendly tormenting him. I think it's good for him actually. unlearn your prejudices and relearn how to smile, you edgy vampire man.). Kazuma's arc was excellent and I wish so badly we could've gotten a true reunion scene with less of the baggage... actually, thinking about Kazuma for too long makes me ill. You essentially watch him break in the middle of court and it sucks. It sucks man.
And Iris was a standout character to me because her archetype could've so easily been bland or annoying but instead she's a realistic kid who happens to be a genius and she's kind and gets sad and angry and has depth and I would give her a big hug.
In terms of case specific characters, I liked Haori/Rei a lot, just because her dynamic with Susato was so silly and she's a cool gifted forensics student! She's awesome! I want to see her again!
However, my favourite was Olive. OLIVE. I adore her and I adore the twist with her. God she's so passive aggressive. Like damn. Have I mentioned that I adore her character? If Olive has only 1 fan then I am that fan. I wished we had gotten to consult with her again, even though that wouldn't have made much sense... just because she was interesting to me and I would've liked to have seen her character more fleshed out.
I'd really love to see a lot of these characters again. I've seen some people talking about Kazuma Asougi Investigations but tbh I'd really like to see Susato Mikotoba Investigations with Haori and Yuujin helping out! It'd be neat to see more Meiji Japan and Susato continue to grow as a character in her own right, since she started that journey in Chronicles. Oh well. I know that's a pipe dream but still.
Omg omg so Iris and Kyouka was such a sweet mental image that I had to doodle it!
Tumblr media
I bet Kyouka would really find Iris's inventions fascinating and love to listen to how they work and stuff! I think they'd get along tbh. The idea of Sholmes and Dazai ever interacting terrifies me. Keep them away from each other. Please.
As for Hatoful, I am biased but I'd say it is well worth a playthrough. Given you like both DGS and BSD, I'd say you'll probably like it. My mom (who has also played it) and I were chatting about it recently and thinking that weirdly enough, BSD gives us a lot of the same vibes... like it's nowhere near identical, but that kind of desperate darkness where the characters are not who they appear to be at first and everyone has a different motive for doing what they do, but it's also not taking itself too seriously and it's still kinda silly... yeah. Same feel. It's better to go in with no expectations but I'm thinking of making a post later about why people should play that game... it's still one of my favourites of all time.
About the stock bird images: I know it's weird. I know it's weird that they're birds. But the best part of this game - to me, anyways - is that for as much as it is a gag, the story leans into it so heavily that you will quickly realize the main plot only makes logical sense if the main cast are birds and the player the only human. Like, it literally would not make sense otherwise. Please play it. It's wacky, it's zany, the characters have a good amount of depth, it's mildly traumatizing, it's one of the best things I've played and I feel it's become an inscrutable part of my identity. I am still obsessed with it many years later. That almost never happens to me. It's that good.
Agh this was long. I hope it wasn't overwhelming haha. Actually I'm curious: did you like Olive too? And/or what do you like about Graydon? :D
(Also if you ever decide to start Hatoful, please let me know your thoughts!!!)

Heyo! I'm new to reading fic stuff and I stumbled on your page. I was wondering if you have any good angsty JJK x Reader fics? I want my soul to be stepped on. Also, nice to meet you! - ☂️ anon
Merry meet, ☂️ anon! It is quite a pleasure to meet you as well! ☺️
Prepare to be stepped on, ☂️ anon; these are the JK fics I’ve encountered that made me bawl my eyes out at 3 a.m. Some have happy endings, others made me throw my phone, but they all wrecked my soul...
Heavy Angst JJK x Reader Recs
first light by @inktae | The Reader’s Tea Review ➵Angst, Fluff |  hotarubi no mori e au | 24.8k (inktae’s synopsis: ) ➵“Have you ever felt like the world is too loud sometimes?”  “No. For me it’s always quiet.” ➵This fic wrecked me and made me so conflicted >.< I can never forget this fluffy, masked boy who lives in the woods and silence...
written on the sky by inktae | The Reader’s Tea Review ➵Angst, Fluff | apocalyptic au? | end of the world au | ‘seeking a friend at the end of the world’ au | oneshot | 22k ➵The 60-mile-wide asteroid was supposed to slip by Earth, but it’s a little late to change its course or do anything about it except to prepare for the end. So while you’re waiting for the end, find a friend, someone to hold a hand with at the end of the world.  ➵I was sobbing before the fic even finished. The odd thing is that you know the end, but knowing doesn’t prepare you for the feels.
below thunder showers by inktae | The Reader’s Tea Review ➵Angst, lil bits of Fluff | sci-fi au | oneshot | 30k ➵Yoongi leads Earth, while you lead a withered space station. You go to Earth to settle the tensions that have been brewing between Earth and the space station, and Jeon Jungkook, a broken soldier who holds a deep love for the rain, is there to deliver you.  ➵we stan a fellow pluviophile ✊🏻 I am so conflicted over this Min Yoongi >.< but Jungkook is so soft and he really didn’t deserve to live this way :(
the train of lost souls by inktae | The Reader’s Tea Review ➵Angst, lil bits of Fluff | fantasy au | oneshot | 13.6k ➵You have two options when you step on the train: you can live but forget your life, and everyone in your life will forget you, or you can move on and keep your memories for the rest of time. But, how can you choose when part of your soul rests on this train, and the other part longs for someone just out of reach... ➵This one is a beautiful sort of angst. This is a tough choice the mc has to make and no matter which way she chose, I would’ve bawled my eyes out (and I did).
the swirling way of stars by inktae | The Reader’s Tea Review ➵Angst, Fluff | fantasy au | oneshot | 19k ➵You’re tasked with showing Jeon Jungkook what it’s like to live a completely normal life. ➵This is a beautiful sort of angst, again. It has so much wonder and awe and magic, and the emotions are so visceral and gripping; this was a breathtaking read.
now we dream apart by inktae ➵Angst | soulmate au | oneshot | 3k ➵You begin to dream of him, and he dreams of you; he is your soulmate, right? And why do these dreams feel so real? One day...one day you’ll know the face, the name, that belongs to those haunting eyes... ➵This is short and I don’t want to spoil anything but these soulmate aus really hit you in the feels, huh? :/
His Name by @jimlingss  ➵Angst | multiple personality au | 8 part series | 52.4k ➵Jeon Jungkook has multiple personalities and gaps in his memory. It’s your job to treat him and perhaps help him remember his past... ➵This is actually the first bts fic I ever read, so it has a special place in my heart. This is one of those fics where I threw my phone and sobbed for hours at 3 in the morning (then reread and sobbed again). I was seriously stuck on this fic for days, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it and my broken! black! heart!
A Piece of the Moonlight by Jimlingss ➵Angst, lil bits of Fluff | historical au | Mulan au | oneshot | 22.1k (Jimlingss’s summary: ) ➵For your loved ones, the people who are waiting at home, the people who have died - you will fight. And sometimes to fight means to sacrifice: who you really are and the person you really love.  ➵I didn’t see that ending coming and look where it got me: a broken black heart.
Gravity by @donewithjeon | The Reader’s Tea Review ➵Angst, Fluff | ‘90s au | oneshot | 29k ➵Time can bring you together, but Time can also push you apart; will you and Jungkook be able to fight the distance and Time to stay together, or were you always meant to only share this descent to earth for just a moment, always meant to eventually drift apart? ➵what can I say, I’m just a wimp with Time, and this fic exploits that. My heart actually hurts right now just thinking about that ending...that cherry blossom scene...the train...
fear is forever by @gukyi  ➵Angst | werewolf au | duology | 8.5k (gukyi’s summary: ) ➵there’s a werewolf in that forest behind your house, they told you, and he’ll eat you before you can even beg for mercy. ➵It’s all fun and fluffy until you’re slapped with the village’s wrath.
Down With The Ship by @tatastaetae | The Reader’s Tea Reviews 1 | 2 | 3 ➵Fluff, Angst | pirate au | trilogy | 25.4k ➵You board a ship to escape forced love; but you join a pirate crew to fall into the arms of your only true and constant love: the sea.  (or, tatastaetae’s summary: ) ➵Captain Jeon Jungkook; a beautiful mess of blood and gold. His greatest treasure, may also be his greatest downfall. ➵Don’t be fooled by the fluff! This is very fluffy indeed, but I swear that ending ruined me! I malfunctioned with that ending—I was shook! and no, I’m still not over it.
~*~
That’s all I’ve got for now! ☺️ Happy reading, ☂️ anon! or, er... sad reading?
I hope you stick around, carissima! Let me know how you enjoyed these fics; after you’ve given the authors some love ofc ☺️ (btw is the umbrella supposed to protect you from the torrential sobs you may partake in? because I just want to warn you that the umbrella may not be enough protection...😅)
Well met!
your fellow reading monster, tor-mon 🖤

“Get a message to the Crow Club,” she said. “Tell Kaz Brekker the queen of Ravka has a job for him.”
I wanna read that heist story so bad.
The amount of things I was able to foresee in this book, it shows how well written it is! A good story is a story that leaves you decipherable clues all along the way and still manages to surprise you, amaze you, make you laugh and cry and gasp. All things I did and felt while reading.
I love seeing Alina through Zoya or Nikolai's eyes. She's so calm and serene, and kind, like she's found her place in the world and truly is the Saint she's revered as.
And we got to see Inej too! A Queen meeting another Queen. Such a short meeting but so powerful!
And, hey, look at Nina! Yet another Queen! The amount of badass, powerful, kind, fierce women in this series, I'm in love.
I absolutely adore Hanne's storyline too. She (they?) is an interesting character with a whole lot of potential and fit for the history books!
Another character I found intriguing and deserving of more pages is Mayu. She's got a lot of depth and her way of seeing the world makes her just as important as a queen.
The King of Scars duology is really good. It starts with Nikolai and yet by the end, he's not the most important character. He's primordial, and he's an absolute sweetheart (seriously, he's so charming, but not in an obsequious way, he's charming in a sincere and tender way), but he's not the hero. He's the hero's sidekick and love interest. And that's very sexy of him.
Anyways, I hope Leigh is not done with the Grishaverse. I kinda want to visit Novyi Zem and the Wandering Isles, now ! And go on more heists with the Crows because I'm not done with Ketterdam either.

Osblaineweek2021, Day 2: Prose
I love book quotes. Looking at quotes is one of my favorite ways to to inspire myself to write more fic.
Here’s a small collection of book quotes (and recs!) of where I’ve “found” June and Nick.
This post contains spoilers for the following books/series:
- Lover Mine by JR Ward
- The Wrath and The Dawn duology by Renée Ahdieh
- A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas
Lover Mine by J.R. Ward
Summary:
John Matthew has come a long way since he was found living among humans, his vampire nature unknown to himself and to those around him. After he was taken in by the Brotherhood, no one could guess what his true history was- or his true identity. Indeed, the fallen Brother Darius has returned, but with a different face and a very different destiny. As a vicious personal vendetta takes John into the heart of the war, he will need to call up on both who he is now and who he once was in order to face off against evil incarnate. Xhex, a symphath assassin, has long steeled herself against the attraction between her and John Matthew. Having already lost one lover to madness, she will not allow the male of worth to fall prey to the darkness of her twisted life. When fate intervenes, however, the two discover that love, like destiny, is inevitable between soul mates.
It's basically a paranormal love story between two warriors. He's really young (although he's actually a reincarnation of a very old vampire warrior, but he doesn't know that), and she's like 300 years older than him. In this book, she's been raped and abused by a guy who also used to bully him. She escapes, but he saves her life. She's hungry for revenge and wants to die after achieving that goal, but of course eventually changes her mind. In the end he actually serves her rapist to her on a silver platter so that she can kill him (sound like anyone we know?). He literally holds the guy down while she kills him.
They're my ultimate favorite ship in this series, and IMO their relationship eventually develops into one of the strongest ones. This series is a bit of a hit-or-miss for most people, because the language and the writing style are pretty ridiculous in all seriousness. If you decide to read this, I recommend starting the series from the beginning because John and Xhex meet for the first time several books before this one, LOL.
Here are some of the quotes that make me think of Nick and June:
“Besides, the story of the two of them was written in the language of collision; they were ever crashing into each other and ricocheting away—only to find themselves pulled back into another impact.” ― J.R. Ward, Lover Mine
“As his ears rang and his heart broke for her, he stayed strong against the gale force she let loose. After all, there was a reason why here and hear were seperated by so little and sounded one like the other. Bearing witness to her, he heard her and was there for her because that was all you could do during a fall apart. But God, it pained him to see how she suffered.” ― J.R. Ward, Lover Mine
“...the only thing that had tethered her to the earth had been him and it was strange, but she felt welded to him on some core level now. He had seen her at her absolute worst, at her weakest and most insane, and he hadn't looked away. He hadn't judged and he hadn't been burned. It was as if in the heat of her meltdown they had melted together. This was more than emotion. It was a matter of soul.” ― J.R. Ward, Lover Mine
The Wrath and the Dawn duology by Renée Ahdieh
Summary:
One Life to One Dawn. In a land ruled by a murderous boy-king, each dawn brings heartache to a new family. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, is a monster. Each night he takes a new bride only to have a silk cord wrapped around her throat come morning. When sixteen-year-old Shahrzad's dearest friend falls victim to Khalid, Shahrzad vows vengeance and volunteers to be his next bride. Shahrzad is determined not only to stay alive, but to end the caliph's reign of terror once and for all. Night after night, Shahrzad beguiles Khalid, weaving stories that enchant, ensuring her survival, though she knows each dawn could be her last. But something she never expected begins to happen: Khalid is nothing like what she'd imagined him to be. This monster is a boy with a tormented heart. Incredibly, Shahrzad finds herself falling in love. How is this possible? It's an unforgivable betrayal. Still, Shahrzad has come to understand all is not as it seems in this palace of marble and stone. She resolves to uncover whatever secrets lurk and, despite her love, be ready to take Khalid's life as retribution for the many lives he's stolen. Can their love survive this world of stories and secrets?
This is a young adult fantasy romance, and basically, Khalid is a lot like Nick. He’s made mistakes that he needs to own, but at the same time he’s forced to commit atrocities he doesn’t want to do. He hates himself and doesn’t believe himself to be worthy of love, and yet he falls in love with Shazi. He's viewed as the villain of the story by everyone aside from Shazi and a few other characters until almost the end of the 2nd book.
“I love you, a thousand times over. And I will never apologize for it.”
―Renee Ahdieh, The Wrath and the Dawn
“It’s a fitting punishment for a monster. to want something so much—to hold it in your arms — and know beyond a doubt you will never deserve it.”
― Renee Ahdieh, The Wrath and the Dawn
“When I was a boy, my mother would tell me that one of the best things in life is the knowledge that our story isn't over yet. Our story may have come to a close, but your story is still yet to be told.
Make it a story worthy of you”
― Renee Ahdieh, The Wrath and the Dawn
“In that moment of perfect balance, she understood. This peace? These worries silenced without effort? It was because they were two parts of a whole. He did not belong to her. And she did not belong to him. It was never about belonging to someone. It was about belonging together.”
― Renee Ahdieh, The Rose & the Dagger
“A boy who'd thrived in the shadows.
Now he had to live in the light.
To live . . . fiercely.
To fight for every breath.”
― Renee Ahdieh, The Rose & the Dagger
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Summaries:
Book 1
Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ... Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.
Book 2
Feyre survived Amarantha's clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can't forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin's people. Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two. With more than a million copies sold of her beloved Throne of Glass series, Sarah J. Maas's masterful storytelling brings this second book in her seductive and action-packed series to new heights.
Fantasy romance with explicit sex scenes, and book 2 is a lot better than book 1. Our main character Feyre falls for a really boring fae guy, but also meets the hottest guy she’s ever known. The first guy of course isn't the real love interest (this is a twist this author loves to do). They all end up as prisoners, and the 2nd guy saves her life when the 1st one is totally useless. He also makes her hate him as he does it because he has to. After getting out, she tries to make her old relationship work, but it doesn’t, and guess who swoops in?
I do see some Nick in Rhysand (in addition to his role in the love triangle). They’re both traumatized and prefer to keep a lot of their feelings to themselves. I also see some of the same selflessness in both of them. Rhysand wants Feyre to choose him because she loves him, but he’s willing to accept that she may not, and doesn’t tell her that they’re pretty much destined to be together (it’s a supernatural thing, and he will suffer a lot if she decides she doesn’t want him).
“Everything I love has always had a tendency to be taken from me.”
―Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Thorns and Roses
“It took me a long while to realize that Rhysand, whether he knew it or not, had effectively kept me from shattering completely.”
― Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Thorns and Roses
“Regardless of his motives or his methods, Rhysand was keeping me alive. And had done so even before I set foot Under the Mountain.”
― Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Thorns and Roses
“Because," he went on, his eyes locked with mine, "I didn't want you to fight alone. Or die alone."
― Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Thorns and Roses
“He thinks he'll be remembered as the villain in the story. But I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out.”
― Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury
“And I wondered if love was too weak a word for what he felt, what he’d done for me. For what I felt for him.”
― Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury
“I was his and he was mine, and we were the beginning and middle and end. We were a song that had been sung from the very first ember of light in the world.”
― Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury

Books with Bisexual Characters
I’ve always been a book lover, and lately I’ve been taking note of some of the bi characters I meet along my journey. I thought I’d share some book recommendations.
First, In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan. I love this book so much—it’s honestly one of my favourites. It features a bisexual protagonist, Elliot Schafer, who goes across a wall into a magical, fantasyland and actively rebels against its war-like ways, choosing to draft treaties instead. He’s a snarky, grumpy, pacifist who has relationships with people of multiple genders throughout the course of the book. This book is super funny. Seriously, it made me laugh out loud on more than occasion. It also features truly phenomenal character development and explores the joys and trials of friendship between Elliot and his two best friends Luke Sunborn (the shy golden boy, born to a warrior family) and Serene-Heart-in-the-Chaos-of-Battle (a bold elf whose society’s gender roles are completely flipped). Shenanigans ensue.
A quote:
“‘Why is language in the Borderlands so weird? Some of it’s modern, and some of it’s medieval, and I guess that makes sense with the influx of a certain amount of new blood to the training camp every year, but how do some words and phrases transfer, while others don’t? Why do you know the word ‘jerk’ and not the word ‘bisexual’?’
‘I guess people say the first word more,’ said Luke.”
Next, The Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff. This epic three book series features badass bisexual Mia Corvere. It’s dark, bloody and heart-breaking, with an endless series of twists. Mia’s parents were killed during their attempt to start a rebellion and her quest for revenge leads her to join a school for assassins. Follow Mia’s journey as she attempts to bring down the leaders of the Republic with her constant companion, Mister Kindly, the wise-cracking shadow-that-is-shaped-like-a-cat. I loved this series as well. It’s a very different tone from the recommendation above (don’t get attached to your faves!) and it’s marked as adult fantasy (be prepared for sex and violence), so be warned, but wow, is it a wild ride!
Books by Ellen Kushner!!! I recently discovered her and I’m in love. Ellen Kushner herself is bi and has a wife who is also a writer. The two of her books I’ve read so far are Swordspoint (published 1987!) and The Privilege of the Sword. Both are fantasy of manners with bisexual duelists as protagonists. Swordspoint features Richard St Vier, an elite swordsman, as well as his close companion (and lover) Alec, a sarcastic scholar with a mysterious past. The Privilege of the Sword is set in the future of the same world, featuring a young girl named Katherine (who I love with all my heart) as she’s called by her uncle to the city to embark upon a path nontraditional to a lady, that of a swordsman. Both are excellent and super fun!
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee. Meet Lord Henry “Monty” Montague as he embarks upon a Grand Tour of Europe (the historical fiction version of a road trip) with his best friend Percy (who he’s hopelessly in love with) and his sister Felicity (who’s ace and has her own follow-up book which I also recommend – the Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy). Monty is charming, privileged, hilarious and the definition of a disaster bisexual. Follow along as the three of them stumble into hijinks and character development.
Radio Silence by Alice Oseman. Our main girl Frances Janvier is a study machine whose only respite from academics is the fan art she draws for a podcast called Universe City. Then one day, the mysterious narrator asks her if she wants to collaborate. In a relatable turn, Frances is bi, but it’s just a part of her identity and the focus of the book is not a romance. Instead, it’s all about friendship and finding platonic soulmates and figuring out what you want to pursue in life. Alice Oseman’s writing is lovely and she tackles issues that feel very modern and relatable. I’ll also mention her webcomic (which you can find online for free) Heartstopper, which follows the romance between two boys Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson (and includes Nick’s bisexual crisis).
A quote:
“And I’m platonically in love with you.”
“That was literally the boy-girl version of ‘no homo’, but I appreciate the sentiment.”
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. Speaking of bisexual crises, meet Alex Claremont-Diaz, whose mother is the President of the United States. His long-time rival, Henry, is a prince of England, and after an incident involving an expensive cake, the two are forced to fake a bromance for the sake of international relations. Actual romance blossoms instead.
Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey. In the land of Terre d’Ange, the motto is “Love as thou wilt”. Phèdre is a bisexual courtesan who receives pleasure from pain. Another adult fantasy (published 2001!), our heroine trains as a spy and is increasingly entangled in a web of politics and plots.
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. This series is well-known, but I love it! Maggie Stiefvater’s prose is atmospheric, littered with small details that reward a reread, and her character relationships are complex. This series is a gem full of magical realism. Here’s a shout-out to our bisexual boy, Adam Parrish!
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Again, another popular book (part of a duology), but the hype is totally deserved! A diverse crew sets out on an impossible heist. Let’s send some love to two bisexual icons, Jesper Fahey and Nina Zenik!
A quote:
“If only you could talk to girls in equations.”
There was a long silence, and then, eyes trained on the notch they’d created in the link, Wylan said, “Just girls?”
Jesper restrained a grin. “No. Not just girls.”
Those are some of my favourites that I’ve come across so far. Hopefully I’ll find some more! I’m always open to book recommendations, especially those that feature queer ladies :)

thoughts on the first two episodes of shadow and bone
1)...alina is lowkey annoying I SAID WHAT I SAID. like girl i get this is traumatizing for you but please internalize it like the rest of us do, we have to save the world
2) i would literally worship at the feet of jesper THAT MAN IS THE ONLY RELIEF THIS DARK ASS SHOW HAS AND I AM LIVING FOR IT
3) kaz my beloved :)
4) mal deserves better than alina lowks, his devotion towards her is really cute (i've only read six of crows duology, not shadow and bone LMAOOO. so maybe thats why i don't have an intense emotional bond with the mc yet.)
5) please tell me we get a scene of kaz kicking pekka's ass right
6) dreesen has intense big ed from ninety day fiance energy idk why
7) my mom told me she thought the guy who played general kirigan is sexy. no thoughts
8) what the fuck is up with the casual racism of this show, seriously i be chilling and some random ass dude will just start spewing random racist bs like WHAT. like it was kinda like that in six of crows but seeing it translated to a live action is jarring-
9) also i forgot to mention- that one dumbass who lit the lantern in the middle of the fold after they just told him NOT TO LIGHT A LANTERN IN THE FOLD is my kin bro /j ,, like that's exactly how i would go out if i was in that position i have no listening comprehension baby
10) as i said before, i'm only really invested in the crows storyline but hopefully i'll get to like alina as the show goes on! thanks for reading :)

Winx Club Opinions and Hot Takes
So after my review of Fate:Winx Saga I feel I need to acknowledge that while I do love the cartoon, it too has it flaws but it is leagues better than Fate. Still here are few of my scattered thoughts.
The Trix got much needed character development in Season 8. Well, at least Icy did but still an improvement. We see The Trix being actual sisters in some of season eight and let me say that pre-season 8 they were almost like the Team Rocket of the Winx Club, except none of the development or charm and season 5-7 they were rather annoying. If they are going to keep giving The Trix the spotlight as the villain give them some much needed development.
Instead of Pop Pixie why didn't Rainbow do a spin-off show of Roxy and her time at Alfea while also giving some development to the Alfea students. Or why not have Roxy attend the school at Tir Nan Og? That way she could learn more about earth fairies and be closer to her family and spending time with her mother after being separated from her. This would have given her some time to shine on her own and becoming a more fully realized character.
What are the point of the Pixies, fairy animals, fairy pets, selkies? I mean they are cute but they really serve no purpose. I do like the pixies and all but they served no purpose to the plot at all.
The show is too black and white. There are the good guys which are the fairies and the specialist, and the bad guys which are the witches. The villains don't exactly have goood motivations. The Trix wanted to steal the Dragon Flame and take over the Magic World. Lord Darkar wants to take over the world(I think?). Valtor wants to be the most powerful wizard and take over the world. Tritanus wants to take over the infinite ocean, I don't even want to talk about Selina or random book wizard. Cheetah Chick and whatever her brother is want to create a army with magical fairy animals. Then they ran out of world conquering villains they had to bring Valtor back.
Can I also say that maybe Darkar should have been saved for a final villain. It is said that he is the master of the ancestral witches, Valtor and all that is evil, so he has all of the makings for a final villain. Like The Trix for season 1, maybe the ancestral witches for season two and the fortress that Darkar has can just be reworked for their hideout as they are biding their time to regain their strength then have the Trix be serving them. While the Winx stops the witches they retreat to report back to Darkar. Then we have Valtor and the Trix do not appear as Valtor will use his lackeys Chimera, Cassandra and others from the girls home planets to make it personal. Lastly will be Darkar as Valtor claims I am not the last or something along those lines. Then if we must can add the other villains or have Tritanus be a mini boss of sorts as he can be one of Valtor's servants and we can have him be a mini boss that Aisha has to defeat or something. Well that wen't longer than expected.
Side Note: It has been awhile since I watched the whole show so feel free to correct me if I missed anything.
Also the Specialist are really boring. They don't really serve any other purpose than to be the girls love interest. I mean in World of Winx they are hardly mention in that series and the show does not loose anything from it.
The antagonist are the supporting villains are nothing to write home about either. Diaspro was fine for at least the first three seasons but that is it. She should have been done afterwards or if they did they should've put her back on a path where she wants to make up for all of her horrible deeds. I never understood what was the deal with Chimera and Cassandra but I did like their looks, same with Diaspro. My point is, is that they are just mean for meanness sake and are just the stereotypical mean girls.
The only good thing about Sirenix is it's song and that is it. Sirenix just looks ugly with the Daphne's look being the exception.
Bloomix could've been called anything else. Maybe Neo-Enchantix as the girls loose their power and Faragonda sends them on a quests to show why they deserve to get their powers back. I do have to say that their designs were great though.
Rainbow made the mistake for calling Enchantix final fairy form. Seriously when you call it that just stick to it and I don't know repackaged the dolls for merchandising or something.
What was the point of charmix? No seriously that is something I am not understanding. All that happens is that they get a nice little broach and a pouch bag. And some don't even look good. The best one being Musa.
The romances are so boring too. I don't mind some of them but they are so dull.
Season 1-3 Bloom is not the same as season 5-7 Bloom. Season four was okay but you can definitely see where her development was going. Also they should've added more of Bloom showing her dark side before we were introduced to Dark Bloom.
Well that was a long ramble but it goes to show that no show whether it be live-action or animated is perfect. I love Winx, always will but this is the last I'll ever speak of this. Next I'll be tackling the Grishaverse starting with the Shadow and Bone book review, Six of Crows, and then King of Scars duology. Then lastly I'll talk about the TV show.

ITS BOOK REVIEW TIME BESTIES
Tumblr media
So I read a lot of books during my school vacation and I’m going to review them since my vacation has ended and school started today.
BOOK #1 SIX OF CROWS BY LEIGH BARDUGO (First book from Six of Crows duology) -
Ok so I LOVED this book. It had an amazing plot and pacing. I really admire how Leigh Bardugo made the characters neither good nor bad, but somewhere in the between. The world she made in her story is not black or white, but in shades of grey.
I enjoyed the action in this book a lot, especially in the last chapters where they were breaking out from the ice court.
And the tension between Kaz and Inej was really executed well. I was rooting for them the whole series. I seriously fawned over how the author expressed Kaz's inner thought and emotions.
And the backstory and dialogues between Matthias and Nina was so engaging.
I loved how we as the readers got perspectives from different characters because that showed different sides of the story.
When I saw Kaz‘s back story I literally cried. It was just so freaking sad how greed ended up ruining the life Kaz could have had.
My favourite character was Kaz since I found him really engaging and I loved the way he came up with ideas for his criminal activities.
However, when I first started the book, understanding all the new terms and places was a bit hard for me, but that didn’t affect my experience at all.
This story and the whole duology had diverse characters which I was so happy to see.
I also really enjoyed Inej’s character. She was strong and invincible as the Wraith, but a long time ago she was a scared little girl who had gone through a lot in the Menagarie, which still haunted her.
Inej was a breath of fresh air for me because usually when authors try to write female characters to make them empowering, they end up making the characters as “im not like other girls“ and literal Mary Sues with no weaknesses or basic character development.
Inej had her own demons she fought with, she had different sides to her, she was not afraid to protect herself but she was scared of her time at the Menagarie and missed her parents a lot. All these emotions made Inej feel human and real.
I really enjoyed the other characters to, but if I wrote about them this would become way to long. Overall, I loved the characters, action, place setting and plot.
I would give the book a rating of 5/5 stars, it deserves it.
BOOK #2 THE CROOKED KINGDOM BY LEIGH BARDUGO (Book 2 of the Six of Crows Duology) -
So first of all, THIS BOOK MADE ME CRY SO MUCH. LIKE BESTIE LET ME BREATH WITHOUT BURSTING INTO TEARS.
Second of all, I’m still not over the character death. This author broke my heart.
Third of all, this book was written so well and the writing was just immaculate besties.
So, The Crooked Kingdom had a lot of angst. Like a lot. It dove into the back stories of our characters and it left me crying looking like the ugly version of shrek.
The writing was so beautiful that I had to put down my book for a few minutes for my brain to process this masterpiece.
The way Leigh Bardugo wrote about the relationship between Inej and Kaz was literally perfect. I’m going to show you all a few quotes about these two from the book itself so you can understand what I mean.
~ “I would come for you.” He said and when he saw the wary look she shot at him, he said it again “I would come for you. If I couldn’t walk, I’d crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we’d fight our way out together - knives drawn, pistols blazing. Because that’s what we do. We never stop fighting. ~
~She smiled then, her cheeks red, her cheeks scattered with some kind of dust. It was a smile he thought he might die to earn again.~
HELP HOW DOES THIS AUTHOR WRITE EVERYTHING IN SUCH A PRETTY WAY.
There's also a gay ship between Jespar and Wylan (such cinnamon rolls) which was represented really nicely.
The characters backstories was written so well. They were all so unique and filled with emotions and really explained how the characters ended up becoming who they were. These backstories literally made me sob the whole day.
Leigh Bardugo, I would sue you for emotional distress if I had the money.
Leigh Bardugo explored each of the traumas of the characters and as someone with certain traumas, I felt that she wrote about such a sensitive topic in an appropriate manner.
As for the ending it made me smile and cry at the same time and I don't know if I can forgive Leigh Bardugo for the sudden character death she pulled of.
I would rate this book a 1000000000000000000000/5 stars. It was that good.
Would I sell my soul for another book in the six of crows series? Hell yes.
BOOK #3 A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC BY VE. SCHWAB
The plot of this book was nice. I enjoyed how Ve. Schwab portrayed magic as both a dangerous and wondrous thing.
I liked the concept of the various worlds she had going on. However, these various worlds were only of London and I would have preferred if it explored various other places to.
There could have been more diversity between the characters though. It didn't bother me that much, but I would have enjoyed that.
The main character Kell was likeable. I enjoyed reading his emotions and inner thoughts, like how he felt he was just a tool for the royals and seeing his inner turmoil with the mistake he felt he was making.
The Dane Twins (basically the villains) were so coldhearted which was cool and they gave me a bi panic from the way I imagined them lol.
However I had an issue with one character called Lila. I liked that she had a thirst for adventure and felt trapped in a small little word. But she always gave of the vibes of "I'm not like other girls" which was a little bit annoying. Lila looked at other women as a bunch of idiots who fawned and threw themselves at men. Now I understand this story took place in the 1800's but even then there were women working in factories and as nurses. Not all were just nobel women looking for suitors.
Ve. Schwab could have instead made Lila despise patriarchy and capitalism, how the rich rolled in lavishes while trampling the poor who struggled in the streets. It really sucked seeing a woman tear down other women.
So I would give this book a 3.5/5 stars.
--
Ok so I did read more books during my vacation, I'll post that as a part 2 cuz I'm to lazy and sleepy to type anymore.
Tumblr media
Anyways I hope y'all enjoyed this besties, I'll try to post part 2 as soon as possible. Bye and I hope y'all have an amazing day/night.

okay finished rule of wolves and i have THOUGHTS..... of which i have gathered..... like sheep i have herded them together. so no it's not coherent. spoilers under cut so abandon hope all ye who enter here
okay….. deadass…… i think my favorite point of view was from the darkling LIKE?!?!?! me before starting this book: HAHA THE DARKLING IS GOING TO DIE FOR THE SECOND TIME!!!!! GET REKT!!!!! me after: His first soldiers were dead now. Lovers, allies, countless kings and queens. Only he continued on. Eternity took practice, and he’d had plenty of it. The world had changed. War had changed. But he had not. but seriously he’s so dramatic and the shit is he says is like. unhinged. i had a blast
zoya deserves so much love and peace and i knew she’d end up queen but this was…. not how i expected it would be. but more thoughts on that down the list
how is jesper going to show up for approximately 14 pages and manage to be the funniest character in the entire book. like he’s got probably 50 lines and each one fucking hits HOW DOES HE DO IT
mayu’s chapters felt very unnecessary and i would’ve preferred to just not know how tamar’s mission in shu han is going until the khergud show up for their ride of rohirrim/knights of the vale moment. maybe leigh wrote it that originally and it just didn’t work? because i can definitely see how insane it would read like all we know about khergud is that they hunt grisha and then all of sudden they’re…. helping ravka?!?!? like it would be really hard to pull off but idk i think all of mayu’s chapters were just. kind of sloggy and the surprise would’ve been fun during the battle
sorry but i still don’t know what the fuck an airship looks like. or what the fjerdan naval base was supposed to look like. the tech in this universe is truly mind boggling
kaz brekker is so in love with inej ghafa. god they make me SICK
okay nina’s storyline…… this is my biggie……………… sigh. okay. nina’s storyline was my favorite part of king of scars and so i was really looking forward to seeing what would happen here. and for the most part i was having a great time!! i love her and hanne (more than i ever got into her and matthias) and i was so excited for jarl brum to finally fucking die. but then the last few chapters. i’m so……….. okay talking about hanne being a trans character (i’ll be using they/them pronouns because it doesn’t feel like a settled issue especially since they talk about not wanting to *be* rasmus, just his body). it makes so much sense for their character and i had HUUUUGE vibes all the way back in kos and i could see it coming here in row. but the way leigh handled their “transition” (???) is not good. like hanne had to kill a cis man and take on his identity to transition and that is such a bad handling i think??? who approved this. but also from a narrative standpoint it GETS WORSE?!?! like how the fuck is hanne gonna pretend to be a PRINCE… what will they do about the king and queen?? and nina remaining mila…… it honestly makes me really angry. that nina would turn her back on her country and friends and family for a LOVE INTEREST…… like her storyline has centered SO MUCH about how much she misses ravka, and in this duology even ketterdam!! like we all realize that when nina focuses on missing waffles or blini *those are symbolic stand-ins for her friends and it’s easier for her to talk about missing food than missing her friends*. like we all know that. and then in the end she says you know what i can PRETEND TO BE SOMEONE ELSE FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE????? and not just a random fjerdan woman literally someone who will be QUEEN OF FJERDA ONE DAY. like an incredibly public position that will put mila under a ton of scrutiny… more than her identity was created for! and nina literally acknowledges that if they got the real mila jandersdat’s friends and neighbors to look at nina they’d know she was an impostor. so what is mila’s village gonna do when they hear mila jandersdat is apparently back from noyvi zem and now engaged to the prince???? i think leigh chose an ending that just doesn’t hold up narratively and logically. like i want nina to be happy and find love but why does it have to be…. not as nina.
my other big gripe is the politics and international implications of everything that’s going on like…… ravka is engaging in some CIA-backed-coups-in-latin-america levels of diplomacy. like fjerda is not just going to have a secret grisha impersonating their prince and eventual king one day, but their queen will ALSO be a secret grisha and RAVKAN SPY???? if nina was ever caught do you know the level of international scandal that would cause??? how the fuck could zoya even let her go off and do this??? it would absolutely be grounds for war and i thought zoya and everybody were TIRED of war. speaking of ravka’s government. guys we LITERALLY DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A MONARCHY. like i was actually hoping zoya would become queen but like…. because she married nikolai. not because nikolai stepped down and she was appointed. like i was fine with the monarchy sticking around if they never even had a chance to contemplate alternatives but they literally say no………. we choose monarchy. besides the fact that the world is advancing and monarchies don’t last long in technologically advanced societies, zoya is going to have the most unstable reign because of the threat from the lantsovs. like nikolai’s parents are gonna go back to the southern colonies and just be like “our son ended our dynasty and put a grisha on our throne but that’s fine! we shouldn’t try to reinstate ourselves or anything.” demidov is fine with this??? he had a problem with nikolai being a lantsov pretender but zoya just starting her own monarchial dynasty gets no pushback??? like i know nobody wants to end the book/series on such a depressing note but like. a revolution and/or coup is staring zoya in the face. and yeah she’s the motherfucking dragon but um…… so was daenerys targaryen. and ultimately it really feels like the ending of game of thrones where a bunch of noblemen are gathered in one room and they’re like “we have the chance to change the course of our country forever so we will…….. START A NEW DYNASTY!” ….. HUH?!?!!? like when nikolai was like ravka will choose its leader! and the only people from ravka in the room are the landed gentry and peerage. like yeah ravka really got a say in this…. so no nikolai i actually don’t think the nazyalensky dynasty will last that long because with all the threats of being overthrown on LITERALLY ALL SIDES zoya may just decide to say fuck it and give the people democracy so it’s no longer her problem! or she just gets killed. so. anyways if the only known countries in this world are ruled by either 1. monarchies (fjerda, ravka, shu han) or 2. plutocracy (kerch) i can see why literally fucking everybody is moving to noyvi zem. like jesus i would too!
genya deserves so much better she has suffered so much and i know leigh needed to make the war have personal consequences BUT DOES SHE HAVE TO HURT GENYA IN THE PROCESS???? like she just doesn’t get a break. anyways i hope she retires from the triurmvirate and goes to live with alina and mal in keramzin because you know what. they were right. they were right to turn their back on literally everything to do with ravkan politics. genya go join them pls
zoya’s expression of grief and mourning… yeah. yeah that one hurt.
i know everybody’s talking about the potential of soc3 but actually i don’t want that! let the crows be in peace in ketterdam!!!! their biggest threats should be like. getting shanked in the barrel not whatever the fuck zoya will put them through. i hope kaz just ignores her letters and when the Queen of Ravka personally comes to his doorstep he reiterates that he’s RETIRED. and when zoya tries to pull the inej card she pops out from behind kaz and says “i’m on vacation with my boyfriend. we’re good!” LET THEM REST!!!!!!!
so yes these are my thoughts not all of them but many of them. i still really enjoyed it and think it was waaaay better than king of scars (not as good as soc & ck though <3). the problem is that the ending definitely colors your view of everything that's happened and if you don't like the ending... well. it's not even that i didn't like the entirety of the ending i mostly just hated nina's and the implications of zoya's. do not mistake me for a darkling fangirl!!!! anyways the writing in this was really good too and there were more moments that just HIT ME than in kos, which i think i just sort.... breezed through without getting hit in the face by a brick of a line. but this one has so many moments especially in zoya and the darkling's chapters that i'm just like OH!!!!! so that is why i leave you with this:
"Zoya, do you know why the Darkling lost the civil war? How Alina stopped him?" Zoya pinched the bridge of her nose. "No. I wish I did." "Because he always fought alone. He let his power isolate him. Alina had us. You have us. You push us away, keep us at arm's distance so that you won't mourn us. But you'll mourn us anyway. That's the way love works."

hello, again! i'm the anon that asked you about blog reccomendation :) i've already checked blogs that you reccomended and they are all amazing! you are also!! thank you! AND YES WARCROSS & WILDCARD! those books deserve more attention. i've heard warcross going to be a tv show! what do you think about that? i really hope they make the representation accurately!!
I know right! If you want to check out more blogs, then I’ll tell you see my following list. Not because I am cool like that bc I totally am (not) but because the everyone of them are worth the follow. The more you interact with them, the more you figure out just how awesome they are, and therefore their blog! There’s more blogs I’d recommend, I’d rather not annoy them lol. Go through the latest people I’ve followed (the ones who show up in the recents) and check their blogs out!
Also yesss omg! I’m so glad you’ve read Warcross and Wildcard! It’s the most amazing duology, isn’t it?! The reason why I love it so much is because of the rep. And the wondrous part: their story arcs go beyond their identities and skills. The plot tests them and they emerge victorious (or fail it). The diversity is just *tips hat*. I’m not sure when it will be out and if I will manage to see it when it comes out, but I’m eager for the world to take life, to see how Warcross engulfed the population. And more, because TV brings a lot of plot points to life, and I hope they go beyond the books and show some additional benefits and details of the plot and characters! Like the advantages technology has in the world, or the dependency the worldwide nations have on Warcross (this gets very briefly touched on in the books). Oh and also the mental health depictions! Emika was depressed when she was 11, and we still live in a world where mental health is not taken seriously sometimes. Maybe the show can change that. If they also manage to show some business related dealings and interactions and even how the PR teams worked to keep the dwindling reputation of the company and its CEO, that will be damn good!
This became long, sorry. xD What other things are you expecting? Thanks, and yeah, glad I you found the blogs I’ve recommended wonderful! (I had no doubt about it, but there were a lot of amazing blogs that I left out. Sigh).

sasha !
Why I like them: Her aesthetic with the whole katana and wind+flower motifs and how she’s always ready to help her friends and I’m always rooting for her as she tries her best.
Why I don’t: Oof…Uh, I’d say what I don’t like about her is less the concept of her/her character and more the world/environment she’s written into and how it reacts to her.
Favorite episode (scene if movie): Brave Frontier’s a gacha game duology with spinoffs. See below for what applies here, too.
Favorite season/movie: I think the 2nd Motion Comic puts her in the best light, personally. And what I gathered from her Batch’s Lore Document.
Favorite line: So, I remember almost 0 actual lines from Sasha, mainly due to not having translations saved for myself, so we’ll go with her Summon Quote from Global:  “Don't worry, you're not alone! You've got at least one friend with you. I mean, we are friends now, right?”
Favorite outfit: She only has like two canonical ones and one of those is her damn swimsuit. So, I have to say her battle gear.
OTP: Am I allowed to say her and Alric, though he’s an OC? Fuck it, I ship Sasha with him the most.
Brotp: It’s a tie between Rin and Wallace for me. I’d say Marena, too, but she’s actually in some in-between realm of OTP and Brotp. Smae goes for Jonas.
Head Canon: She’s a really good makeup artist, and even just artist in general. Seriously, the one time she somehow managed to get Joshua to submit to a makeover (with Hansu’s help, because Joshua post-BF2 wanted to make honest attempts at Social Links), the man wouldn’t stop staring at his reflection for at least an hour after.
Unpopular opinion: Hm…What the fuck would even be one for Sasha? No, seriously. Uh…Not directed at any of us, obviously, but I will Never Ever ship Sasha with Roy or anyone else in her batch. And I consider my interpretation of Sasha and Lugina’s relationship, which stems from how the game progressed over its year of actual life, in that we were shown an incredibly and badly reduced version of something bigger coupled with writing that left much to be desired more than in BF1, to be unpopular as well. Or at least, there wasn’t much care put into character writing. Sometimes I feel I am alone in…all but those last two things about the writing, hence “unpopularity” in being the only one I know thinking along most of those lines.
A wish: At the very least, I wish for Alim to release character data like with the BF1 Storybook. Just so we can have something more in the character development department. I don’t care if I’m probably gonna not accept it 100% and either ignore or rewrite parts.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: I suppose, in the realm of what hasn’t happened, if Alim ever decided to give us her future in the post-BF2 world, it would be her hooking up with any of her batch, especially Roy and Hansu, and/or that she’s taken the “left Akras for good after getting married/starting a family” route. In that she can still have a job and a family, Alim. Even if the job is fighting monsters, when Sasha has already become even more of a skilled warrior. And besides, those kinds of endings are lame as fuck. Why do you think I changed what Alim had for Lin and Elise’s BF2 lives? I digress, back to Sasha.
5 words to best describe them: Deserves better. Trying her best.
My nickname for them: So maybe I call her “Green Bean” like Alric does sometimes.....

As for everyone, this was a tough year for me, yet I somehow managed to read 237 books from 35 US states and 35 countries, a new record.  Altogether, I racked up over 55,700 pages, which isn’t bad if you consider the absurd amount of time I spent playing Animal Crossing and the fact that I decided to read The Journey to the West, which is denser than it has any right to be.
You’re going to notice a lot of comfort reads on here; I specifically excluded the nonfiction about race, politics, and sexuality I read from this list, because, honestly, you shouldn’t need me to tell you to read How to be an Antiracist and there are much better reading lists for those subjects than I could make.  Instead, you get my top 11 fiction and popular fiction.  My next post will be graphic novels.
The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune: The rest aren’t in ranked order, but this was hands-down my favorite book of the year.  Chances are, I’ve already recommended it to you no matter what you usually read.  It’s a fantasy with major Diana Wynne Jones vibes, the literal antichrist, and a gentle, gay romance thrown in.  Plus, it’s about overthrowing the system with kindness, so I heartily approve.  I cannot emphasize how much you should read this book.  Klune’s YA superhero book, The Extraordinaries, almost made this list as well, but was narrowly beaten out due to the sheer number of good books I read this year.
The Empress of Salt & Fortune by Nghi Vo: This novella is so beautifully-written, with world-building that left me wanting Discworld levels of books written in it. The storykeeper concept and oral story/secret-telling device had me hooked; I read the entire thing in a sitting, then immediately read it again to soak in the prose. It also got points for having a nonbinary main character without having any plot points specifically being about this fact.  I’m hyped about the sequel.
The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall: I’m a sucker for fairy tales, and even more so for original fairy tales, so it should come as no surprise that I put a book chock-full of them on this list.  The characters were all well-fleshed out and so, so diverse, the prose was amazing, and it was an adventure story as much as it was a romance.  I wasn’t surprised when multiple library review magazines put this on their Top of 2020 lists.  It deserves it.
Mudlark: In search of London's past along the River Thames by Lara Maiklam: This book created a new obsession for me--looking at Mudlark Instagrams.  It also made my history-loving self swoon and reminded me just how many hours I spent digging up my yard as a kid to find cracked pottery and animal bones in the refuge piles from whoever lived in the house 100 years ago (thanks, Mom, for letting me dig random 4-foot-deep holes everywhere).
Not So Pure and Simple by Lamar Giles: Not a whole ton of YA manages to depict the male teenage voice correctly, and even fewer manage to do so while also tackling important issues.  I can hand this to just about any teen boy and be confident that they’ll love it, but also sneakily give them a lesson in consent, toxic masculinity, sexuality, and the intersection of all of these with religion.  Just as importantly, it’s hilarious.  Giles has yet to have written a book I didn’t love, honestly.
Red Hood by Elana K. Arnold: I know, I know.  A LRRH retelling made this list. Surprise. But, seriously, the combination of biting modern social commentary, the themes of the old oral versions (the wolves are both literal and metaphorical werewolves, the grandmother’s passing her powers onto the granddaughters), and characters I loved made this easily one of my favorites for the year.  Don’t ask me exactly what I loved about this one; it’ll turn into an hours-long rant.
Slay by Brittney Morris: This is another one I could hand to just about any kid and be confident they’d love it.  It’s got all the marks of a thriller, combined with social commentary, huge character growth, and a family you root for.  It’s also unabashedly geeky.  I just wish AR didn’t make me massively nauseous.
Stealing Thunder by Alina Boyden: Adult fantasy is typically behind YA in terms of representation and originality, and yes, often quality, so I was surprised when I loved this one.  A main character who seems like a real person, deep worldbuilding, dragons, a romance that didn’t make me want to murder everyone involved and didn’t feel shoehorned, the author did actual research...I can’t wait for the next in the series.
The Storm of Life by Amy Rose Capetta: This is the second in a duology, so you’d better read The Brilliant Death first, but this was a wholly satisfying sequel and an amazing book in its own right.  The magic system, the characters, the villains, the dialogue--everything was well-done and I was annoyed every time I had to put the book down to go do something as banal as go to work or sleep.
Weird Women: Classic Supernatural Fiction by Groundbreaking Female Writers: 1852-1923, edited by Lisa Morton and Leslie S. Klinger:  Was every story in this anthology mind-blowing?  No.  But there was only one I disliked, and this led me to so many writers I otherwise wouldn’t have heard about that it absolutely deserves a spot on this list.  Some of these tales were eerie to the extreme and all could easily be slotted into a literature class.  “In Nut Bush Farm” haunted my dreams for weeks, and I got to read some of the most original werewolf lore I’ve ever come across.  Plus, who doesn’t want to read really creepy ghost stories written by Louisa May Alcott and Frances Hodges Burnett?
Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibañez: This book is a true under-the-radar gem.  It needs way more recognition than it’s gotten.   Bolivian-inspired fantasy with characters you feel for, whether good or bad, I loved the magic and the thrills.  Weaving moonlight into tapestries as part of a rebellion? Living moonlight? Tested loyalties, spies, and food descriptions that made my mouth water?  There was nothing about this book I didn’t like.  When the sequel comes out, I’m dropping everything else I’m doing to read it.

Ok so during these past few years I’ve read sooooo many good fics, and I’m going to recommend my favorites !! Most of these are Member/Reader but there are some exceptions!!
Keys:
❦-Fluffyyyyy like marshmellows
☽-Angst, you WILL cry
☠-Smut, for when you’re alone at night
BTS
Jin
Folia by httpjeon ❦ ☠
Synopsis: stressed from work, you’re sent on vacation to the beautiful, tropical planet of Liana where you meet a beautiful Folian man named Seokjin, who makes your vacation 10x better.
This is probably the wridest fic on this list, but I’m not complaining. If you like this one then I also recommend the rest of the made of stardust series.
                                                   *   *   *   *   *   *
Yoongi
5:40 PM by minnpd: ☠
one of my favorite smut pieces.
                                                   *   *   *   *   *   *
Hoseok
Gyve by jiminwereckedme: ☽ ☠
Synopsis: On the occasion of your best friends wedding and high school reunion, you happened to meet once again, one of the richest heirs of the country, famous fuckboy Jung Hoseok. While the world saw him as a cocky arrogant person and you, as a confident, strong woman, only the two of you knew the scars that were hidden, and things you both were unable to fix. Only the two of you could see right through each others facade. But could you and Hoseok finally break the gyves holding you back? Or were you the ones who shackled each other in the first place?
While the world saw him as a cocky arrogant person and you, as a confident, strong woman, only the two of you knew the scars that were hidden, and things you both were unable to fix. Only the two of you could see right through each others facade. But could you and Hoseok finally break the gyves holding you back? Or were you the ones who shackled each other in the first place?
I have never wanted to be rich as much as when I read this fic, it also brought me into a “wedding planning period” lol, if you’re up for that then I recommend this a loooooot.
Tip 143 by minflix ❦ ☠
Synopsis: Even though he is everything you find attractive in a man, your friend and co-worker Jung Hoseok is just exactly that - a friend and co-worker. For some reason, you have never found yourself attracted to him even though all the girls and guys around you go absolutely crazy for him.But that all changes for you one night while scrolling through Heart2Heart, a sex live cam website…
Honestly all of minflix’s fanfictions deserve to be on this list, bu out of them Tip 143 is my personal favorite. I love the portrail of Hoseok (he’s such a cutieeeee). Totally recommend it !
Transference by dark-muse-iris: ☽ ☠
Synopsis: Prolonged periods of work-related stress brings you to a cross-road in life that leaves you prone to make impulsive decisions. During a routine visit to your local bakery, you stumble upon an intriguing business card belonging to a “tantric therapist” and take a risk. When you discover your therapist is an attractive young man with penchant for shibari, you throw a caution to the wind as he helps guide you self-recovery.
Wowowowowowowwwww, this fic is so addicting and the sexual tension has never been higher and I literally can’t recommend this enough.
Starfire by readyplayerhobi ❦ ☽
Synopsis: The schism that broke the galaxy began, as it usually does, over a disagreement. The resultant civil war has raged for hundreds of years. When a ragtag group of travellers discovers something that could turn the tide of war, for good or for worse, the bonds of friendship and love will be tested.
Okay so hear me out; even though this fiction isn’t even near complete the setup is done amazingly and I just KNOW that this series is going to turn out fantastic.
War lords by avveh (Namjoon/reader/Hoseok): ☠
Synopsis: Sometimes, we all need to let a little loose on the control we have in our lives. This fic actually reminds me a little of house of cards. It’s another mafia au with loads of dark smut, just not quite as gross as house of cards. Either way it’s really good and the portrails of Namjoon & Hoseok makes my knees weak.
                                                   *   *   *   *   *   *
Namjoon
Phototbooth by seraphjoon: ☠
Synopsis: You never knew fucking in a photobooth, while all your friends are on the other side, could be this sweet.
Just a lil something for your late night rendevouz
War lords by avveh (Namjoon/reader/Hoseok): ☠
Synopsis: Sometimes, we all need to let a little loose on the control we have in our lives.
This fic actually reminds me a little of house of cards. It’s another mafia au with loads of dark smut, just not quite as gross as house of cards. Either way it’s really good and the portrails of Namjoon & Hoseok makes my knees weak.

Jimin
The secrets triology by avveh: ☠
Synopsis: Park Jimin is the office’s oddball. Meek and quiet as a mouse, you never assume to omuch of him. Your mistake.
I present to you all; Park Jimin’s duology. This fiction really really really describes what it´s like when he goes from the worlds sweetest mochi to a sex icon in mere seconds. BOOM, is all I want to say.
Slight changes by chiminiemoans: ☽ ☠
THIS FIC WRECKED ME, from the day I read it and onwards I’ve only been a shell. No but seriously though, this fic is a masterpiece, probably one of my all time favorite fictions. It’s so well written and it just gives me all the feels, even thinking about it makes me want to cry. Also, I’ve never wanted to just scream FUCK YOU TAEHYUNG as much as when reading this.
I’ll never be her by anon-luv: ☽
Synopsis: You loved him with all your heart, but he could only give you half of his. Jimin was the love of your life, your night in shining armor when she wasn’t around. She was his ex girlfriend,  his first love, actually she was his many firsts and she kept coming back. He had warned you she was his weakness, but you didn’t listen, because to you having him even if it was only partially was better than not having him at all. At least for now.
If you haven’t noticed it already, I’m currently in a love hate relationship with angst. Speaking of love hate relationships, this fic. It’s sooo sad, yet I can’t hate it.
A lack of color by minflix ❦ ☽☠
Synopsos: Slowly but surely, you were starting to warm up to the idea of forever seeing in black and white as long as Jimin was by your side.
This is another minflix fic that I love, can’t recommend it enough if you’re a fan of angst (like me).
Baby, baby by hobiwonder ❦ ☽☠
Synopsis: When you’ve run out of savings to continue on to the last semester of your Bachelors - you take an unorthodox route. Helping a desperate couple have a child and getting paid for it? Heck yeah. But what do you know - it wasn’t as easy as it sounds.
Another hobiwonder fic, but is anybody even slightly surprised. This one is my personal favorite of hers/his though, the writing style is 10/10 and the plot is AMAZING. Also, the sexual tension, I’VE NEVER FELT ANYTHING QUITE LIKE IT
Covet by bang-tan-bitches: ☠
Synopsis: Agreeing to meet Lee Ji-Hye’s boyfriend Park Jimin was your first mistake
This is INTENSE
                                                   *   *   *   *   *   *
Taehyung
You were happy by evangelene: ☽
Synopsis: You were in love with your best friend, and he only cared about his girlfriend. On the upside, you have two boys willing to do anything for you–including searching to the end of the earth when you go missing.
If there’s one author out there that never fails to make me cry it’s evangelene. This fiction is a whole rollercoaster ride, and I honestly doubt I’ve ever cried as much as when reading this. THIS WILL MAKE YOU CRY
Hush by sugakookiemonster (Taehyung/Reader/Jungkook): ☠
Synopsis: Four seats, five bodies. “Careful, sweetheart,” he breathed into the shell of your ear, hand tightening over your waist in warning. You lick your lips, pausing just long enough to ponder; what if you don’t want to be careful?
This duo, this duo was made to kill us all I promise. And in this fic, woahhhh like I’ve never been this attracted to book characters before.
D!ck on the go by jeonggukingdom: ☠
Synopsis: It was all shits and giggles when you and Taehyung were desperate seniors in High School, having no idea what to do with your lives, wondering if you’d ever find a decent job or even graduate in the first place. It is not so funny anymore when you come home from the big city to enjoy your vacation time and you find his sex-shop right in front of the house you grew up in when you were a kid. “If nothing works out I’m just gonna open a sex shop and call it something obnoxious like ‘Dick on the Go’ or something with a stupid zucchini logo flashing on top of the building.” He had said one time. Shit, you had no idea he actually meant it.
This is plain crack, like I have NO clue what’s happening, but I can’t deny enjoying it...A lot...
Slight changes by chiminiemoans: ☽ ☠
THIS FIC WRECKED ME, from the day I read it and onwards I’ve only been a shell. No but seriously though, this fic is a masterpiece, probably one of my all time favorite fictions. CUUUUUTEEEEE
The doms next door by tatertotthethot (Junkook/Reader/Taehyung): ☠
Synopsis: In which you unknowingly accept the offer to become a tattoo model for the two, sexually-crazed men next door.
This. Fic. Is. So. Good. I. Can’t. Even. Explain. Just. Do. Yourself. A. Favor. And. Read. It.
Devotion by kookswife (Jungkook/Reader, ft Taehyung): ☠
Synopsis: you drunkenly touch yourself in front of your neighbour, hoping he’ll take notice. you can’t help but do a double take when he actually does.
Lol, are you starting to see the pattern? Honestly though, if there’s one duo that could kill me by just breathing it would be Junkook and Taehyung. (Which is what they do in this fiction)
                                                    *   *   *   *   *   *
Jungkook
The house of what’s left by evangelene: ☽

Saying goodbye by stanrandomthings:  ☽
Synopsis: You never expected that no texts from your boyfriend could lead to disastrous events.
Time for some more angst. It’s very short and delicate yet oh so sad.
Blue orchids by inktae: ❦ ☽
This is a hanahaki fic, and it’s really good. There’s something about hanahaki diseases that is so beautifully sad, idk why but I love this concept.
Tease by Junkooksloststar: ❦ ☽☠
Synopsis: You came with the intentions of your best friend landing a job as a stripper. You never meant to catch the eyes of the king stripper of the establishment- Jeon Jungkook, yourself. With what was supposed to be a harmless way of paying off college debt faster you find yourself falling into a very odd and passionate relationship with your new mentor. Between infidelity, passion and jealousy there’s never a dull moment at Cherry Bomb.
I love this fic with my whole heart, it’s so addicting and amazing and fabulous and everything I ever could have wished for. And can we please talk about Jungkook in this; a literal god.
One thing right by hobios: ❦ ☽☠
Synopsis: “i’ve been wrong about a million times, but i’ve got one thing right.” Or, desperate to get your ailing mother into the best care possible, you ask your childhood friend turned enemy to marry you for his health insurance benefits. the only problem is it’s illegal. and he’s the sheriff. and you swore to hate him since the day he broke your best friend’s heart.
The plot in this story is arguably quite basic and cliché, BUT don’t let that stop you from reading it. Because the writing is so so so beautiful.
Arachne boy by kinktae: ❦☠
Synopsis: How do you tell your best friend that the reason you can’t hang out with her is because you’re too busy trying to save New York? Or, “Are you asking me if I piss out webs?”
Don’t we all love a good spiderman au? It’s light hearted, cute and everything I could possibly have asked for.
Bitchin’ by kinktae: ❦☠
Synopsis: The 80s were a time of choices. Which perm was right for you? What color neon would you wear next? None of these choices, however, were more questionable than a certain deal you made with Jeon Jungkook.
I love love love love love love this fic, and its portrail of Jungkook. It’s so so so so so so so so good.
The doms next door by tatertotthethot (Junkook/Reader/Taehyung): ☠
Synopsis: In which you unknowingly accept the offer to become a tattoo model for the two, sexually-crazed men next door.
This. Fic. Is. So. Good. I. Can’t. Even. Explain. Just. Do. Yourself. A. Favor. And. Read. It.
Comfort inn ending by joonbird: ☽☠
Synopsis: It was you who Jungkook gave his heart to- that is, until the day you broke it. And it is you now, hoping that some fault lines can be repaired, and that some broken hearts can be put back together again.
The only thing I remember is crying a whole river. Like this fic broke my heart into millions of tiny pieces, put it back together and stepped on it. Its portrail of cheating and its consequences are very real, almost too real.
                                                      *   *   *   *   *   *
OT7 or Poly
Accidentally tamed by justanotherbtsbitch(OT7/reader): ❦ ☽☠
Synopsis: The worlds biggest boy band, and probably the most famous group of hybrids to ever exist. Somehow they found you, just a normal human, despite all odds. Now they just need to convince you to stay
This is actually a second updated version of this series, and the author really succeeded with the update, the writing style is very good and the fic as a whole a lot less cliché.
Bad guy by sweetbunnykookie (Jin/reader, Hoseok/Reader/Suga): ☽☠
Synopsis: After a brutal attack in Hong Kong, your marriage with Kim Seokjin cracks as secrets begin to surface and a series of betrayals find their way into the veins of the Hidden Tigers. Although Jin’s devotion endures, in his own definition, the reality of being a mob wife may be too much for you to bear.
This fic is dark, sad and beautiful.
Beautifully misfit by orphicbts (maknae line/reader): ❦ ☽☠
Synopsis: You never really saw yourself as a hybrid person. that is, until your best friend introduces you to his hybrid, and you suddenly find yourself craving the companionship. you only intended to bring home one. somewhere between the lines you ended up with three beautifully misfit hybrids who craved nothing but your love.
Cuuuuteeeeeeeeee
Crazy rich asians by hobiwonder (Jin/reader, Yoongi/reader, Hoseok/reader, Jimin/reader): ☠
Synopsis: You overhear something you shouldn’t. Now some of the country’s most powerful - and rich - men would do anything to keep you quiet.
I can’t waiiiiiiiiiiiiit for the rest of this series, I can already tell that it’s going to be -amAzIng-
Ethereal orbit by loveejoon (OT7/reader): ☠
More alienssss yayyyy !!
Hanahaki by EminEmGurlz (Everyone/everyone? This is a mess): ☽
Synopsis: The Hanahaki Disease is an illness born from one-sided love, where the patient throws up and coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love. The infection can be removed through surgery, but the feelings disappear along with the petals.
This fic hurts like hell. Its another hanahaki one, and I don’t think I’ve ever felt my heart break as many times as in this fic. Even though the writing style is as light as a breeze, it doesn’t stop this fic from hurting.
Heartbeat by resugance (OT7/reader): ❦☠
Synopsis: When you put out a roommates ad for your newly purchased house, the only requirement you set out had been cleanliness. The last thing you’d expected was for the 7 most eligible bachelors of your university to come calling.Throw in school, crazy fan girls and the most sought for men suddenly chasing after you with heart eyes, comes a college experience of a lifetime. Would it be so wrong to want them all?
This is another one of the series which has yet to be complete, or even close to it. But either way, once I read the first chapter I was HOOKED. And I cannot wait for the continuation.
House of cards by sugamins (Kim Taehyung/Jeon Jungkook/Park JImin ft. ot7): ☽☠
Synopsis: Jungkook is the heir to a mob empire, the most notorious in the whole of Seoul. Taehyung is a rookie sent in to infiltrate by his select team and bring the empire crumbling down."You knew the game and played it, it kills to know that you have been defeated."
This is arguably THE best BTS fic out there, and that is not because of nothing. It’s so well written and deserves ALL the praise it’s been given. Warning though, it´s a VEEEERY dark fic.
Legacy by fantasybangtan (maknae line/reader): ❦
Synopsis: four children, each comprising one quarter of a sacred prophecy. As royal in a kingdom divided by war, you are expected to fulfil the destiny that has been mapped out for you since birth: find yourself a nobleman, and unify your country’s people through marriage. unfortunately for you, your choices are somewhat limited…

So when you get fed up and stand up for an innocent demon being attacked, you shouldn’t have been so surprised when your own species turned on you, including your own parents, and left you to fend for yourself. Luckily, the newly made treaty calls for a Human to live with demons if there’s 5 or more, and so, you’re now rooming with 7 demons. But not just any kind of demons. Incubi. Synposis: You know the exact hour, minute, and second every person you meet is going to die, including yourself, and that’s the way it’s always been. In which you meet a boy who changes everything, but your time is running out.
Jaemin hours is a very talented author, and all of her fics deserve to be on this list. However timeless stands out a little, for it’s written oh so beautifully and it completely broke my heart.
