I’ll remember you
Long after you’ve forgotten
We once were in love
I’ll remember you
Long after my heart has found
Someone new to love
I’ll remember you
Up until the day that I
Breath my final breath
Yes I’ll remember
Because you showed me what love
Never should become

tell your breathless tale of love
we will listen, blind in thought and hushed
‘til our hero meets his fate

so, um.
did you know that "haiku" is. already plural? and also that if you write a "cynical or darkly humorous" poem about "human foibles" with a syllable pattern of 5-7-5, that's. not (generally) considered haiku? it's senryū.
because. haiku have specific rules beyond the syllable patten (not really syllables, either, but close enough especially in english and anyway—) with regard to word use, and. haiku are typically about nature. that's, like. the whole point. the 5-7-5 structure is memorable, but that's just one part of it. they also have a "cutting word" and a seasonal reference. they're explicitly about nature. making "haiku but not following the other rules" is just. senryū.
because, uh. i sure didn't know that until recently.
anyway; here's a short poem with three phrases composed of 17 phonetic units:
haiku are complex
don't just count the syllables
this is senryū

Haiku, Senryū, Zappai: seventeen syllable poems
OK, leave it to the Japanese to have a name for the 17 syllable trash I’ve been writing.
Haiku is a type of short form poetry originally from Japan. Traditional Japanese haiku consist of three phrases composed of 17 phonetic units in a 5, 7, 5 pattern; that include a kireji, or “cutting word”; and a kigo, or seasonal reference.
Senryū is a Japanese form of short poetry similar to haiku in…
