Writing Prompt: Dialogue
“They’re not sending you to lockup, [——]. You’re being stationed on [——] for three years to work off your sentence.”
“Three years? I’m not a fucking criminal! I’m getting sent away for being caught out of my quarters a whole ten goddamn minutes after hours? It wasn’t my fault! My boss had me work an extra hour knowing that I live farther away than—”
“I know. The judge took that into consideration, but you still broke the rules. This is the lightest sentence you could have.”
“And what, you couldn’t pull any strings? Whisper in someone’s ear? Offer a favor? Money? I’m your fiancée for fuck’s sake! And you couldn’t do anything?”
“[——] station isn’t the worst place you could’ve ended up—”
“How the fuck would you know? Hm, [——]? When were you ever there?!”
“You’re upset, I understand—”
“The hell you do! You’re not the one being sent to a penal station for three fucking years!”
“I’m sorry, [——]. This doesn’t change anything. I know it seems like a long time, but we’ll still get married as soon as you get back. Three years will go by faster than you think,”
“You… You’re a dumb fuck, aren’t you?”
“I—What?”
“There’s no guarantee that I’ll even be alive in three years! How many people have come back after being sent away, [——]? Do you even know the statistics? No, of course you don’t! ‘Cause you’re a naive son of a bitch with a powerful daddy and no idea about how the real world works!”
“…”
“Get out, [——]. I don’t want you here. Get out! And take this fucking ring with you. We’re done. Over. If I make it back I never want to see you again.”

"We're trapped!" The small Sandwing dragonet cried, his wings flapped a few times in fear. His eyes widened with terror. He snapped his head towards his sister, who was just as terrified as him.
She was trembling alongside him. "Don't worry [Name]! I- I will get us out of here somehow!" She said, trying to sound reassuring while the fear in her eyes betrayed her voice.
The two little dragonets suddenly heard a raspy laugh from behind them, they both turned around only to see a caged up Seawing. The Seawing looked slightly dehydrated but not enough for him to be completely insane.
"Sorry little ones...there ain't no way out of this laboratory." The Seawing grunted, he had metal chains wrapped around his neck, his wrists and his torso, practically forcing his wings to stay close. "Once you've entered this forsaken place, you're stuck." He laughed a bit.
However, he didn't sound too happy. The two dragonets looked even more terrified now.

On Kaleidoscope World, we use prompts to inspire standalone science fiction and genre stories from our writers. In the context of our collaborative setting, we use these stories to populate a fictional magazine called—you guessed it!—Kaleidoscope World. However, as standalone writing prompts, they really could be used by anybody looking to create a thematic sci-fi story. Go wild! The prompts featured here include special Pride, Valentine's Day, and Black History Month topics. The full text of these will be under the cut for anyone needing it.
Theme: The Search for a Kaleidoscope World! Prompt: Heaven. Utopia. Home. These are the words that launch voyages and sink ships. If we knew with certainty the Kaleidoscope World existed, we never would have come this far in search of it. For the first issue of the city of Earth’s favorite vintage pulp science-fiction publication, write about travelers and pilgrims who seek the titular, mythical planetary paradise—or about the people who find it when they’re not looking. Theme: Over the Rainbow Planet Prompt: Somewhere over the rainbow is a world of peace, love, acceptance, pride, romance, mystery, fantasy, and adventure. For this special issue of Kaleidoscope World, include reoccurring LGBTQ+ color schemes in a story OR write a LGBTQ+ protagonist in a classic plot from any genre. Theme: Rocket Summer Prompt: In the opening chapter of Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles (1950), a rocket is launched in snowy January and creates so much warmth that winter is temporarily changed to summer in the nearby town: the ice melts, women shed their coats, and children go out to play in the streets. For the third issue of the city of Earth's favorite tales, write a story that takes place in a very hot climate or during this so-called "Rocket Summer." Theme: Fantastic Planet of Love Prompt: Love is a universal language—be you man, bug man, blob, or floating space jelly. Across the galaxy, all hearts speak, and though they can't always immediately understand the words, all creatures hear it. For this lovey-dovey issue of Kaleidoscope World, write about a couple (or more) from two (or more) different worlds and/or about aliens visiting a paradise planet on their honeymoon or honeymoon equivalent. Theme: Year on a Black Planet Prompt: Afrofuturism envisions the world of tomorrow through the lens of Black identity and history, combining science fiction and fantasy with themes of displacement, liberation, and diaspora. From P-Funk to Octavia Butler to Black Panther, Afrofuturism has been expanding American and global philosophy and imagination for years. For this special issue of Kaleidoscope World, imagine a dazzling African city in the far future, a planet influenced by African culture—or let yourself be inspired by examples of Afrofuturism in music and art.

I’m the historical prompt person, and you got exactly what I was hoping for. So, let’s try the opposite end of things. Sci-fi/futuristic triad
I'm so glad it was what you were looking for! I enjoy these asks (and they help give idea for future prompts so thank you). Once again if I get it wrong appologise in advance, but I like this prompt idea!
Person A is a scientist who makes all new types of devices. They occationally bring back some of them to their partners to test it out (consensually). One particular decice is a teleportation device, a beta of sorts. They often use the device to travel to new places (for free!).
In their free time the three of them can be found in their home all together. Despite having a big house they all enjoy being in eachothers company.
Person B is a bit scared of all the futuristic stuff (lets say they watched to many "robots taking over earth movies) so their partners are more than happy to help them calm down/protect them incase anything goes wrong.
One of their favorite things to do at night is power down the house/everything inside of it and climb to the roof. Then they cuddle while looking at the stars. Something, not even the newest technology, can replace
Person C is a pirater, they spend their free times pirating the new homing systems/movies/games/ect. Person A is always the one looking out for C and making sure that they don't go jail for their actions.
One of them is allergic to animals, but yet they really want a pet. To compromise, they have a robotic one. It's not the same, but atleast they don't have to worry about feeding it. And it looks exactly like the original animals, not very metal-ly. (Alternatively: One of their beloved pets passed away and they cloned it :])

New technology that allows you to dive into your favorite pieces of media has finally been invented; it's all well and good at first, until Character A visits his favorite book and accidentally gives their favorite character the methods to visit the real world.

"You're nothing at all of what I thought an alien would look like," Human says.
"What did you think I was going to look like?" Alien asks.
"I don't know. Multiple arms or heads. Maybe three eyes. Huge heads. Green skin," Human mumbles. "But you look like a human. Like me."
"You are very stereotypical. And—" Alien states.
"Sorry," Human winches.
"—saying we look like your species is an insult. The major difference between our two species is that mine is much more advanced than yours. I mean, you guys are still traveling to space in tin cans."
"I was wrong about what I thought you looked like, but I'm spot on about your personality," Human says.
"Intelligent and honest?" Alien assumes, grinning.
"A stuck-up, know it all who thinks their better than everyone else," Human corrects, wiping the smrik right off Alien's face.

Faster-than-light space travel as a concept is fun to me because everything we’ve observed in the stars is how the universe was a long-ass time ago, so in a sci-fi setting where FTL tech was just invented, there could be all sorts of crazy developments that could be found by traveling through hyperspace or whatever. Try to visit a star system, whoops it isn’t there anymore. Try to go close-ish to a nebula, whoops there’s a bunch more stars here now and this trip is more dangerous than we estimated. Or better yet, a planet with intelligent life on it, the light caused by which won’t reach earth by normal means for about another million years. Thought you’d be going to an ocean planet, turns out it’s got small continents and terrestrial life now. Huge amounts of space travel would be based in predicting what the star systems you see will probably be like in such and such many years, and hoping you predicted correctly when you finally make the jump. Actually, with an FTL engine, one could theoretically take advantage of the speed of light to travel a certain number of light years away from our solar system and study it from afar, as a way of observing the history of our planetary system from before humankind even existed! How wild is that?

Character a is a shapeshifter, and Character B is a human. Both love each other very much, what does Character A do with Character B?
Shapeshifter x Human Prompts
-> feel free to edit and adjust pronouns as you see fit.
"As someone who can change their face into something more attractive anytime they want," the shapeshifter said, "I know true beauty when I see it." They kissed their lover gently. "And you, my Love, are beautiful."
"We should commit crimes," the human joked, leaning into the shapeshifter's shoulder. "We'd be good at it, I bet."
"You know I prefer your face over anyone else's," the human said. "Don't change it."
"Does it ever hurt?" the human asked gently, thumb idly running along the length of shapeshifter's arm. "Sometimes," shapeshifter shrugged, "but it doesn't last long. Just while it's happening."
"Be honest," the human said, "have you ever interacted with me without me knowing?"
"Would you like to get back at [other character]?" the shapeshifter asked, a mischievous look in their eyes that human knew all too well. "What do you have in mind?" the human responded, propping their elbows up on the counter to look at shapeshifter more closely. "You, my love," shapeshifter smiled, "are about to go on a date with [other character]'s celebrity crush."
"Do you think I'd look good with blonde hair?" the human asked, staring at themself in the mirror. Shapeshifter transformed into an exact image of human, only their hair was blonde rather than their usual brown. "You tell me," the shapeshifter responded, striking a silly pose.

I love sci-fi stories where the reason why humanity hasn't encountered any aliens is a spooky one.
What if we're the first life of the universe. What if we're the last life of the universe. What if there's a whole intergalactic society but we're the control group. What if other intergalactic societies have reached such a perfect utopic state that due to lack of conflicts their art grew stale and boring so now they make sure not to contact some planets such as ours because they want to keep consuming our media. What if our galaxy is just an intergalactic zoo. What if a planet in our solar system is actually an egg and no one wants to be close when it hatches. What if they've been trying to contact us for years but a mysterious force around our planet keeps blocking all communication attempts. What if our planet was built as a prison for something/someone and no one is allowed to contact let alone rescue the life that sprung on that prison planet. What if no one dares to get close to our galaxy because the thing at its center is not a black hole. It looks like a black hole and acts like a black hole, but sometimes... it blinks

Writing Prompt: Dialogue
"You're a liar. I don't think your intentions are honorable." "Hell no. I'm a bounty hunter. That's not generally considered honorable so much as… I live by a code, though. Which I think is worth—" "You hurt people." "Only when the job requires it." "Wrong. You're a bad liar. You crawl inside me uninvited and you hurt my crew."

More alien thoughts:
So you know how fireflies glow in order to attract mates? What if there was an alien species that did that. They may be insectoid, they may not be, but in any case, they just flirtatiously light up at people they’re interested in. Or maybe they also just use it as a sign that they want to form friendly relations. So when they first meet other species they blink their lights at them to show them they’re friendly.
I was reading someone’s post about how a lot people dislike bugs but like fireflies because they glow. So maybe most humans warm up to them pretty quickly because the lights immediately make them seem more cute and appealing. Later, humans need to differentiate a friendly blink from a flirtatious one.
Meanwhile, a mimicking species also glows, however they use their glow to draw in prey (like a lantern fish does). Knowing that their sister species is peace loving and trusted by the other species, they use their similar luminescent abilities to their advantage. Space soon needs to learn to pick out little differences between the two species so they know what they’re getting into when they’re glowed at—do they think you’re cute or do they think you’re dinner?
Aaand because I love unlikely relationship dynamics, maybe in very rare occasions, the aggressive species actually does come to like a human/other species, but people have a hard time trusting them because of the general behavior of their planet.
I’m imagining a human with an aggressive glowing partner, and they’re introducing them to friends like, “Look, my partner is so cute! They glow at me! It was so cute how blinky they were when we first met!”
And then everyone is like “O.O That’s one of the homicidal ones…”
