A Juneteenth Tour of Salem
A Juneteenth Tour of Salem
I like to craft my own walking tours for every major holiday just for myself, so that I can get in the proper celebratory or thoughtful frame of mind. This weekend, I put together my first Juneteenth tour and it really took some time: I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to focus strictly on Salem sites related to abolition or spaces which are connected to more general African-American history. But it…

My new goal in life is to travel to different cities for full on history tours. I wanna go to the places where all the shit went down. Right now I want to do full educational excursions in
Philly (Obviously)
Boston and Salem
New York
Richmond, Williamsburg, and Charlottesville
London
Paris
For locals and people who have been to these places, what is an absolute MUST for history nerds? I want to see and learn as much as possible, meet more people in the history community, and broaden my horizons.
Also, if there are cities I’m missing here significant to amrev, please tell me!
And yes, I will be dressed in historical clothing while I travel and explore. 😀

TOMORROW X TOGETHER Reflect on the ‘Sense of Pride’ Collaborating With Jonas Brothers for ‘Do It Like That’
Tumblr media
The fast-rising pop collab connected two superstar boy bands, as well as OneRepublic hitmaker Ryan Tedder, in ways that go beyond music.
TOMORROW X TOGETHER‘s highly anticipated entrance into the music industry in 2019 generated immense interest as the latest addition to the esteemed roster of Big Hit Entertainment (now BIGHIT MUSIC), whose strong music history was laid by chart-toppers BTS and innovative singer-songwriter Lee Hyun.
Meanwhile, a cornerstone of TXT’s musical story has been the array of worldwide collaborators including global hip-hop stars (Coi Leray, iann dior, pH-1, Woodie Gochild), rising singer-songwriters (Salem Ilese, Seori, Lilas Ikuta), punk-rock icons (ModSun), EDM heavy-hitters (Alan Walker) and more. With TXT’s prime-for-pop-crossover smash “Do It Like That” alongside the Jonas Brothers, fans saw how the process goes beyond music.
Ahead of the July 7 release of “Do It Like That,” the K-pop stars shared a series of teaser videos to piece together their biggest Top 40 moment yet. Amid the U.S. leg of TXT’s Act: Sweet Mirage world tour, the quintet jetted off to meet OneRepublicfrontman Ryan Tedder in the studio. While the super-producer behind multiple Hot 100No. 1s already pumped some mainstream magic into the track, adding TXT’s Republic Records label mates in the JoBros expanded the song’s appeal to a broader generation of boy-band fans for maximum pop appeal.
With nearly 20 million views on YouTube since its release, the song is beginning to connect worldwide in its quest to become—as TXT’s eldest member Yeonjundescribes it—”the perfect summer track” for 2023.
TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun and HueningKai‘s took a moment to delve into the collaboration with Billboard to share behind-the-scenes anecdotes, aspirations for the song, who would make the best TXT/JoBros sub-unit and the latest message to their fans, affectionately known as MOAs.
youtube
Billboard: Tell us more about how TOMORROW X TOGETHER and the Jonas Brothers came together for “Do It Like That.” Have you ever previously connected with Jonas Brothers, or was anyone a longtime fan?
YEONJUN: It was our first time meeting Jonas Brothers for this collaboration and I had personally been a fan of their music growing up and even practiced with their music as a trainee, so it felt surreal to be working with them. “Do It Like That” seemed like the perfect summer track and when Jonas Brothers also expressed their interest in the single, we met up in the States during the U.S. leg of our world tour in May to make this collaboration happen.
TOMORROW X TOGETHER has collaborated with several artists, but we got to see you meet, interact and record fun content before the song release. What was the vibe like? Any fun stories from the day?
TAEHYUN: From recording the track to shooting content, this collaboration was such a fun project. Jonas Brothers were even cooler in person and their friendliness helped us work together in a chill environment.
BEOMGYU: Jonas Brothers were incredibly welcoming from the moment we met. They were just as enthusiastic as we were about shooting content, which we really appreciated.
YEONJUN: We gifted Jonas Brothers our most recent album The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION! We shot a lot of content together, and I remember being pleasantly surprised by how good they were at filming TikTok videos.
Do you want fans to look out for anything specific in the music video?
HUENINGKAI: Viewers will be able to see how much fun we had on the set if they pay attention to TOMORROW X TOGETHER and Jonas Brothers’ facial expressions and gestures within the music video!
Fans loved Jonas Brothers’ sharing “concept photos” in the style of TOMORROW X TOGETHER on social media. Did you enjoy?
HUENINGKAI: We thought their concept photos turned out really well and felt a sense of pride seeing the positive reactions from fans.
In what ways do TXT and Jonas Brothers have similarities, and in what ways are they different?
TAEHYUN: I’d say TOMORROW X TOGETHER and Jonas Brothers are both artists who have a jam-packed discography with quality music. We, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, are not related by blood like Jonas Brothers, but the five of us are a band of brothers too and a family nonetheless.
What are your personal and professional goals with this single?
SOOBIN: It would be amazing to achieve good results on the Billboard charts with “Do It Like That,” but more importantly we hope that this single acts as a window for more people to discover TOMORROW X TOGETHER and get to know us.
Sometimes K-pop groups split into “sub-units” for certain performances or albums. What would be the best combination if one member of TXT and Jonas Brothers formed a duo?
BEOMGYU: I think HUENINGKAI and Nick Jonas would make the perfect duo because their vocals complement each other very well.
TOMORROW X TOGETHER has a lot of big things coming up: Headlining Lollapalooza 2023, a Disney+ documentary, of course this new single. What’s your message to fans as you roll it all out?
SOOBIN: We can’t spoil too much, but including our new single, we have a lot of exciting plans coming up for the rest of the year beyond what you mentioned. It’s a busy time for us, but we’re thankful and working hard to put our best foot forward for the many opportunities to meet our MOA. As always, we would appreciate our MOAs’ excitement and support every step of the way!

The Old Burying Point Cemetery of Salem
A ghost tour of Salem is not complete without a visit to the Old Burying Point Cemetery. This cemetery sits on a small plot of land sporadically dotted with worn, decrepit gravestones. It is actually the second oldest cemetery in the United States and because of the dark history linked to it is also thought to be one of its most haunted.
Salem is of course most famous for its history of the Witch Trials. The Old Burying Point Cemetery is linked to that history by holding some notable characters that influenced this notorious era. The cemetery holds the remains of the man known as the Hanging Judge, Jonathan Hawthorne. He is suspected of being responsible for one of the cemetery hauntings, showing up in unsuspecting tourist photographs.
The Old Burying Point of Salem is also thought to manifest many other paranormal events. Many people have reported hearing disembodied voices, sighting unexplained light anomalies and experiencing sudden temperature drops as they trudge through the dated gravestones.

31 Days of Halloween: Day 2, The White House, Washington D.C.
Continuing our journey through 31 days of Halloween, we move from the historic Salem Witch Trial Memorial to a location steeped in its own eerie tales and ghostly legends - The White House in Washington, D.C. Known as the official residence and workplace of the President of the United States, the White House holds a mysterious allure, with stories of paranormal activity that have captured the imaginations of believers and skeptics alike.
Historical Background
Constructed in 1792, the White House has witnessed momentous events in American history and has become a symbol of the nation's power and leadership. However, alongside its historical significance, the White House harbors a wealth of ghostly folklore that has been passed down through generations.
Ghostly Legends
One of the most famous ghostly legends associated with the White House is the presence of Abraham Lincoln's ghost. Numerous witnesses, including presidents, first ladies, and staff members, have reported seeing Lincoln's apparition. Lincoln's ghost is often described as a tall figure in a top hat and frock coat, quietly wandering the halls, especially in times of turmoil or national crisis.
Another ghostly presence is attributed to President Andrew Jackson. Witnesses claim to have heard his distinct laughter echoing through the corridors, and some have even reported the sensation of being pushed or brushed by an unseen force, believed to be Jackson's mischievous spirit.
Additionally, the ghost of Dolley Madison, wife of President James Madison, is said to have been spotted in the Rose Garden, where she once frequented during her time as First Lady. Her presence is often associated with the scent of lilacs, her favorite flower.
The Experience
Visiting the White House during Halloween allows one to embrace the ghostly atmosphere and delve into the intriguing history and legends that surround this iconic structure. As you explore the grand rooms and corridors, it's impossible not to feel a sense of awe and anticipation, wondering if you might catch a glimpse of one of these otherworldly inhabitants.
While public tours of the White House do not typically include stories of its haunted reputation, there is an air of mystery that hangs in the air, adding to the overall allure. Some visitors claim to sense a certain energy or feel a chill as they pass through certain chambers or staircases, making for a spine-tingling experience.
Conclusion
The White House, with its rich history and tales of ghostly encounters, adds an intriguing layer to our 31 days of Halloween. As we explore the supernatural legends tied to this iconic residence, we are reminded of the countless stories that have been woven into the fabric of our nation's capital.
Whether you believe in the paranormal or not, the ghostly tales associated with the White House spark curiosity and encourage us to reflect on the past. As we delve further into our month-long journey, let us embrace the Halloween spirit and continue to uncover the mysteries that lie within these haunted locations.

Hey there! So my girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Boston and I wanted to know if you have any recommendations for attractions to see there. Also what time of year would be the best to visit. It would be our first time there so we don't know what to expect!
Hi! Always happy to chat about things to do in Boston! Here’s a list of things I made a couple years ago, but below are some more ideas:
Charles Riverboat Company - take a ride on the Charles River through Boston and Cambridge while a tour guide tells you all about the sights!
Salem, MA - A classic New England town famous for its connection to witches. It’s a great day trip destination from Boston and is accessible by car or train (just make sure to factor in extra travel time if you’re going by train because the MBTA has been extra fucked lately). The fall months are its peak tourist season and it gets VERY busy around Halloween. It’s still a really nice place to visit in the off-season if you want to skip the crowds, which I’m sure the locals will appreciate
Symphony Hall - if you’re a fan of classical/orchestral music, I highly recommend checking out a performance by the Boston Symphony Orchestra or the Boston Pops! The venue is gorgeous and has some of the best acoustics in the world (speaking as someone who has been both in the audience and on stage there)
Rose Kennedy Greenway - a linear park that stretches through Boston where a highway used to be before they moved it underground. There’s a carousel, and in the warmer months there are sometimes outdoor craft markets. Side note: if you like bike riding, Boston has Blue Bikes which you can rent from various spots all around the city
JFK Presidential Library - This is a cool place to visit if you’re into history! It’s also right on the water which makes for some pretty scenic views
In terms of the best time of year to visit, I would recommend fall or spring, mostly for the weather! If you decide to go in fall, maybe avoid the first week of September (that’s when all the leases turn over and everyone moves, so it gets quite chaotic). The month of May is a little hectic with all of the college graduations as well, but still doable.
Enjoy your trip! And if you have any other questions, let me know and I’d be happy to answer them :)

HISTORY —
Finnley cannot say the childhood he had was a difficult one. It could have been easier, but for the most part it wasn’t terribly difficult. It is what he tells himself when he thinks about the golden grasses of Kansas, his father’s protective love, and the teen sister he lost when he was just six years old. He hardly remembers it, anyway. Just that his suit was too itchy and hot, and how his mother scolded him for getting his snot and tears all over it.
And the arguments all sounded like television static in his memories - he even barely recalls sitting at the top of the staircase to listen to the very last time his mother dropped him at his dad’s house for the weekend. What remained a vivid memory was the one of his mother who abandoned them in the endless pursuit of a high to numb the pain of loss with a man that little Finnley never would have called even ‘step-dad’.
By his eighth birthday his father scooped him up and relocated to Salem, Massachusetts, moving in with family residing in the outskirts of the New England tourist trap. The custody battle was an easy one to win, so all connections with his mother ceased to exist instantly. With the agreement to not have visitations came the loss of child support, but his father’s side of the family helped with financial struggles. Though his father never kept any letters she sent from him, Finn buried the unopened envelopes in an old chest under his bed. His youth did not mean he was blind to the error in her ways, and he held onto a grudge throughout his life for the woman who destroyed his father’s heart.
Once Finn hit his teen years, the downtown life of Salem provided plenty of opportunities for him to develop a love for history, especially the darker parts of it left out in general education. It also spiked a love for the occult, not that he practiced anything or fully immersed himself in the world of witchcraft and tumbled stones, but Halloween easily became his favorite time of year while he lived there. He worked in shops downtown, performed in skits of historical events, and inevitably became a tour guide for the area.
Finn’s love for history expanded, and he began to dive into books depicting information about the United States first, until he moved onto important events and everything that happened throughout the world.
When high school graduation started to approach, he looked into colleges, hopeful to pursue a degree in history. It came with great disappointment when his father had to give him the bad news that it could not be financially covered. With grades that weren’t exactly stellar, and a truancy streak, his options for scholarships were nearly nonexistent.
This resulted in Finn pursuing an associate’s degree in community college. Financial aid covered the costs, and it was a place for him to start. It also gave him time to try and save money for a four-year school and improve his grades to reapply for scholarships. This is also where he picked up a minor in photography after an elective course taught him the basics on the ‘golden rule’ and composition.
Online courses here and there sped up the process, offering him credits to transfer when he settled on Rutgers University for his bachelor’s degree with a major in photography. Due to tight finances, he did have to stop pursuing history as an area of study, but he kept with it as a hobby. He worked hard despite feeling run down from his studies and the physical and mental strain from his jobs. Finnley graduated community college at twenty years old, hopeful for his future, and one and a half years following he walked onto that New Jersey campus with his head held high. It was in November of his first semester that the fatigue worsened. He struggled to keep going, sometimes suffered dizzy spells that kept him planted in his seat, and on occasion was too weak to even stand himself up. A day came when he could not even push himself from the mattress in his dorm room.
When Finn bounced back it was gradual, and it was assumed to be just stress and exhaustion from being overworked. Come spring, it happened again, and it was a worse episode of chronic fatigue accompanied with tingling in his extremities. Several doctors’ visits, a couple of MRI scans, and a diagnosis later, Finnley learned he had multiple sclerosis. Dropping out of school temporarily at twenty-two to get a handle on it had been his first step, before he would go into the next year. He could not complete the spring semester which put him behind but adjusting to this curve ball life had thrown him was his priority. The second one was the medical costs maintaining it, and how it took a hit against his future.
Medication was expensive, and his father did not have the greatest of insurance plans to cover more of the costs, so Finn was back to trying to earn money back in Salem. Except he had to fall back on less physically demanding jobs. It knocked the wind out of his sails, and he almost immediately lost any hope in returning to Rutgers to finish his degree.
It was three years down the road he received a letter from an unknown address. It was from his mother who was in a rehab in Hartford, recovering from her addictions and reaching out to establish contact. At first it was tossed away until several more followed suit in the mail, and he’d come to learn his mother remarried to someone wealthy. It definitely wasn’t the man she ran off with, but someone older than her by at least fifteen years, and with a promise of keeping clean and practically begging him for an answer it clicked that maybe… he could play his cards right.
Finn responded one day, establishing a line of communication, and then he gave details on his situation. His medical diagnosis, his incomplete schooling, and financial struggles. That made it easy when he asked for funding to return to school. She obliged almost immediately as a means to get her son back. Of course, Finn never told his father, and to keep Lillian from coming around Salem Finn decided to transfer his credits and hop on over to the west coast. Far away from Hartford, and away from his mother.
This does not mean he doesn’t reach out to her and let her know how he’s doing, and there is no guilt in the matter. Her financial support begins and ends at tuition and supply costs, and as for his rent and day to day expenses such as food and medication. Finn works for that on his own. It’s how he ended up in Aurora Bay, a returning photography student halfway through his junior year with a new sense of hope and promise.
TRAITS.
+ Charismatic, intelligent
+/- Logical, quirky
- Judgmental, flighty
HEADCANONS.
1. finn is sober, by choice. he fears to have the same addictive tendencies as his mother so he just avoids alcohol consumption and drug use altogether. never has he tried anything, and he doesn’t intend to. 2. finn is allergic to cats and guinea pigs. 3. although it’s never been proven as finn would rather live in ignorant bliss, there is suspicion the man who raised and loved him is not his biological father. aside from the fact they look nothing alike and finn overheard him talking to his grandparents, the assurance of ‘he is my boy no matter what’ gave finn enough to never need to know the answer. 4. finn has one little 1692 tattoo in the bend of his left elbow. 5. other than photography and puzzle books, finn does bird watch because it is calm and peaceful. it’s also an opportunity to snap some pictures. 6. tied in with his love of history is all things of the occult. he loves hard facts, but touching on astrology, alchemy and natural magic in the historical concept it fun for him. 7. his favorite movie growing up was Stand By Me, and he loved listening to Aerosmith & AC/DC with his dad. 8. finn never learned how to swim.

INSTAGRAM: catlandbooks Throughout Africa and beyond in the diaspora caused by the slave trade, the divine feminine was revered in the forms of goddesses like the ancient Nana Buluku, water spirits like Yemaya, Oshun, and Mami Wata, and the warrior Oya. The power of these goddesses and spirit beings has taken root in the West. New Orleans, for example, is the home of Marie Laveau, who used her magical powers to become the “Voodoo Queen” of New Orleans. Author Lilith Dorsey shows us in Orishas, Goddesses, and Voodoo Queens how to celebrate and cultivate the traits of these goddesses, drawing upon their strengths to empower your own life. In addition to offering a guided tour of the key goddesses of the African religious traditions, the book offers magical spells, rituals, potions, astrological correspondences, sacred offerings, and much more to help guide you on your own transformational journey. —— New Orleans has long been America’s most magical city, inhabited by a fascinating visible and invisible world, full of mysteries, known for its decadence and haunted by its spirits. If Salem, Massachusetts, is famous for its persecution of witches, New Orleans is celebrated for its embrace of the magical, mystical, and paranormal. New Orleans is acclaimed for its witches, ghosts, and vampires. Because of its unique history, New Orleans is the historical stronghold of traditional African religions and spirituality in the US. No other city worldwide is as associated with Vodou as New Orleans. There is a mysterious spiritual underbelly hiding in plain sight in New Orleans, and in this book Alvarado shows us where it is and who the characters are. She tells where they come from and how they persist and manifest today. Witch Queens, Voodoo Spirits, and Hoodoo Saints shines a light on notable spirits and folk saints such as Papa Legba, Annie Christmas, Black Hawk, African-American culture hero Jean St. Malo, St. Expedite, plague saint Roch, and, of course, the mother and father of New Orleans Voudou, Marie Laveau and Doctor John Montenée.

My Personal Haunted and True Crime Destinations Bucket List
Over the years there’s been more and more spooky places where I’ve really wanted to visit, and I intend to someday make it to at least a small chunk of these places. On this list are my top 12 destinations that I would highly recommend to any horror and true crime lovers.
One: Salem, Massachusetts:
Tumblr media
Everyone knows about the Salem Witch trials, where 19 innocent people were accused of witchcraft and wrongfully executed. But there’s more history to Salem than just the unfortunate murders. Here you can visit the Cursed House of The Seven Gables, the Gardner-Pingree House, The Witch House where all the pre-trial court hearings would take place to determine executions, the Salem Witch Museum, Proctors Ledge which is the site where the lynchings were carried out, and the Rebecca Nurse Homestead which is the only standing home of someone who was executed in the trials. Additionally you’ll be able to walk through the creepy Salem Woods at night, visit two of the cemeteries known as Charter Street Cemetery, and The Pickman House Cemetery, along with visiting the Witch Trials Memorial. Last but not least you’ll be able to read all of the 511 original documents from the Witch Trials, which consist of letters, trial transcripts, and court orders. There’s also tons of shops, places to eat, and other fun things to check out, such as but not limited to: The Satanic Temple, Salem Willows Arcade, Count Orlok's Nightmare Gallery, Black Veil Shoppe of Drear & Wonder, Bewitched After Dark Tour, Crow Haven Corner (which is a witchcraft store), the Hocus Pocus Tour, Salem Witch Board Museum (which shows tons of Ouija Boards, and you learn about their history, and you’ll even be able to use one yourself in the Seance Room), the New England Pirate Museum, and much much more! I’d recommend going around October for the extra spooks and fun costumes, but this place is amazing all year-round.
Two: The Viscilla Axe Murder House (located in Viscilla, Iowa)
Tumblr media
This home is where a gruesome murder of eight people, six of them being children, took place on the night of June 9th, 1912. Six members of the Moore family and two guests were never given justice, as this case remains unsolved. The Viscilla Home offers daytime tours which costs only $10 per person, or $5 if you’re a senior. But if anyone is like me, you’d want to take part in the overnight stay, where people have claimed that the house is definitely haunted. The overnight stays begin at 4:00PM, where they will start off by giving a walk-through tour of the home. After that, they give you the key to the home, and you’ll need to leave the key in a predetermined area before you leave the next morning around 9:30AM. You’ll need to book the stay in advance, and it costs $428 (includes sales tax) for up to 1-6 people. You can have parties of up to 10 people, but it would be an extra $75 per extra person. It’s recommended to keep the parties small, between 2-6 people since the home is quite small.
Three: The Lizzie Borden House (A Bed and Breakfast and Museum)(Located in Fall River Massachusetts)
Tumblr media
The Lizzie Borden Home is one of history's biggest unsolved murder cases. The murders took place on August 4th, 1892, where her father and step-mother were both brutally axed to death. No one was in the home besides Lizzie and the maid, and Lizzie was tried but later acquitted of the murders. No one else has ever been charged. You can simply request to book individual rooms, which costs $250 per night for two people, and an additional $75 for an extra person, or you can go the much more expensive route and book the entire home. You can reserve for up to 20 people, as theirs a total of eight beds in six rooms. You can book the home non-exclusively, which means you can’t have the whole house to yourself in areas where tours are being held during touring hours. With this package you can get breakfast for your whole group, and even a Lily Doll or a Lizzie Borden Axe of your choice. If you book the whole house EXCLUSIVELY it’ll cost an additional $15,000, or $2,000 in October. With this package you’ll receive a Lily doll on your pillow, any combination of souvenirs placed in each room in advance, romance package for any room, and projectors for viewing Netflix, Amazon Prime, Youtube, or to connect to your phone. ADDITIONALLY, there’s more to this home than just simply staying in the bed and breakfast. There’s also the House Tour you could take, which is 90 minutes long and offered daily from 10:00AM and 4:00PM, and costs $25. You could add on an additional tour of the basement, which is where it’s believed they found the murder weapon, and is apparently the most haunted area in the home, for an additional $6. In this tour you’ll be taken throughout the home and learn about its history, and where each person lived in the home and learn about their daily routine, along with spooky stories from visitors who claim that the house is indeed haunted. There’s also a Fall River Ghost Tour, which is 90 minutes long, and is offered nightly from 7:00PM-9:00PM, and costs $25. This is an outdoor tour, where it’ll focus on the history and hauntings of other places in Fall River. There’s also a Ghost Hunt available, where a group of 13 people will split up into two groups to try and solve the mystery of the murders. This will take place on the first floor and in the basement, but you’ll need to bring your own ghost hunting equipment to share with the others. This is around 2 hours and takes place nightly between 10:00PM and midnight, and costs $35. LASTLY, you can even get MARRIED here! How amazing.
Four: The Sallie House (Located in Atchison, Kansas)
Tumblr media
The Sallie House is believed to be haunted by a young girl who died there. According to the legends, the child was brought to Dr. Finney’s home for severe abdominal pain. Dr. Finney assumed she had appendicitis and believed her appendix was about to rupture, and began emergency surgery on her. However, he cut into her body before the anesthesia kicked in, which resulted in her death. Several people who had formerly lived in the home claimed the home to be extremely haunted. Most of these claims came from men, who had reported being scratched until they bled, which resulted in Sallie being labeled as “The Man Hating Ghost.” To stay at home overnight, you must book it in advance. You must be there by 4:00PM to sign a waiver, and then the walk-through tour of the home will begin. The fee is $100 per person, and you’re allowed to have up to four people in your group.
Five: The Whaley House (Located in San Diego, California)
Tumblr media
Shortly after the Whaley family moved into this home, they claimed to have heard heavy footsteps throughout the house, which they believed to be the ghost of James “Yankee Jim” Robinson, who had previously been hanged on the property for stealing a boat. There have been reports from visitors claiming to see apparitions of Thomas and Anna Whaley, and hearing strange noises, along with the heavy footsteps. You can book a Whaley Day & Evening Tour Package which starts from $28. The daytime self guided tour is a self-paced tour through the interior and surrounding grounds of the house, and you’ll see and hear about the history that makes this house such a legacy. The evening tour is around 30-40 minutes long, in which you’ll be guided through the house, and listen to the tales of the spirits from the past, and maybe even experience something paranormal yourself. You could also book The Whaley After Hours Paranormal Investigation Tour, which starts from $94. You’ll be able to participate in an actual paranormal investigation with an experienced guide, use the latest ghost hunting equipment, and learn about the darker side of the Whaley House and about the spirits who refused to move on. You can have a maximum of eight people in your group.
Six: The Keddie Cabin Resort (Located in Keddie, California)
Tumblr media
You can rent a cabin from someone for $20. The Keddie Murders are one of the most notorious unsolved mysteries, where three people were found brutally killed inside of the cabin, and later found the last victims remains. Even though the cabin in which the murders took place has been demolished, you can still walk around the resort and go to the area where the cabin used to stand. If you’d like to know more about this case, I wrote an article about it here:
Seven: The Winchester Mystery House (Located in San Jose, California)
Tumblr media
To keep this explanation short and sweet, Sarah Winchester was told by a spiritualist that the spirits inside of her haunted home had placed a curse on her, and that if she wanted to keep living she must appease to the spirits by moving out west, and constantly, without stopping, build a house for them night and day. In other words, she must continue adding to the home, no matter what it is, in order to stay alive. By the time she passed away in 1922, the house had 160 rooms, including 40 bedrooms, 40 staircases, 13 bathrooms, 6 kitchens, 10,000 window panes, 2,000 doors, 52 skylights, 47 fireplaces, three elevators, two basements, and one shower. You can book tickets to the Walk With Spirits Tour, where you will walk through the home and explore the paranormal as explained through the Spiritualism movement. This is a summer tour and starts daily on July 7th. The tour lasts an hour and costs $41.99 for adults, $34.99 for seniors, and $19.99 for children ages 5-12.
Eight: The Bell Witch Cave (Located in Adams, Tennessee)
Tumblr media
The Bell Witch Cave is located near where the Bell Farm once stood. The cave is 490 ft long, and is privately owned, but you can book tickets for a tour during the summer months and during October. The Bell family claimed that the cave is haunted by an entity which they call “The Bell Witch.” Legend states that a young girl named Betsy Bell and her friends went exploring in the cave, and one of the boys went crawling inside a hole and became stuck. The boy cried out for help and suddenly everyone heard a girl's voice saying “I’ll get him out!” Moments later the boy felt a grasp on his feet and was pulled out of the hole. Then the entity gave the children a lecture on reckless cave exploring. Admission costs $19 Wed-Thu for adults (13+) and $23 Fri-Sun, $12 for ages 4-12 Wed-Thu and $15 Fri-Sun, and $17 for military/seniors Wed-Thu and $19 Fri-Sun. The admission includes a guided tour of the cave that was owned by John Bell, where you’ll also see an ancient Indian burial site within the cave, along with other natural formations. Included in the admission is the tour of the hand-hewed log cabin which is a replica of the Bell Family home, and the interior looks exactly the way it did when the family lived there during the 1800’s. The cave tour is around 40 minutes long.
Nine: The Museum of Death: (Located in both New Orleans, Louisiana, and Los Angeles, California)
Tumblr media
This is definitely a museum that all true crime fans need to visit! Keep in mind however, that this museum isn’t for the faint of heart. There’s no age restriction but caution and consideration of young visitors is urged. A few things that you’ll see in this museum are letters from serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, and letters from Ted Kaczynski (The Unabomber). You’ll also see paintings from serial killer John Wayne Gacy, memorabilia from the O.J. Simpson trial (along with hair taken from the crime scene), Manson Family photographs, and one of Dr. Kevorkian’s suicide machines, along with the business cards from Jack Ruby. There’s also videos to watch of deaths that have occurred, and the videos are not being reenacted, they’re 100% real. Additionally, there’s exhibits on cannibalism, terrorism, embalming, and even an exhibit with a lot of shrunken heads. Admission costs $15 per person.
Ten: Alcatraz East Crime Museum (Located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee)
Tumblr media
The exhibits here include “A Notorious History of American Crime,” which features the evolution of crime and criminals, ranging from pirates and gunslingers from the Old West, to today's white collar criminals. This exhibit also displays getaway cars including the Bronco from the O.J. Simpson case. “Punishment: The Consequences of Crime,” which includes police lineups, mugshots, lie detector tests, and experiencing how it feels to be behind bars. “Crime Scene Investigation,” where you’ll learn how to solve crime through using forensic science, such as ballistics, blood analysis, facial reconstruction, DNA, as well as fingerprinting. The exhibit “Crime Fighting” will discuss local police officers, famous lawmen such as Buford Pusser and Eliot Ness, and federal agencies like the FBI. Lastly there’s “Counterfeit Crimes & Pop Culture,” which discusses illegal trafficking and sales of counterfeit items, which includes electronics and medications that could affect your health along with your families health. Additionally, there is a temporary exhibit called “Dear Inmate: Prison Pen Pals,” which will display tons of letters that were sent to serial killers from their fans or women who were utterly obsessed with these men. These letters include Richard Ramirez and Ted Bundy. This exhibit is open until April 14th, 2023. Admission costs $28.95 for adults (13-60), $21.95 for seniors (61+), $14.95 for children (8-12), and $19.95 for Law/Military and Sevier County (tickets must be purchased at the door to get a discount).
Eleven: The Mob Museum (Located in Las Vegas, Nevada)
Tumblr media
This super interesting museum has four floors to explore. In the basement you’ll find exhibits such as: The Speakeasy, The Distillery, and The Path To Prohibition. On the first floor you’ll find: 100 Years of Made Men, Bringing Down The Mob, The Crime Lab, The Firearm Training Simulator, Global Networks Touch Wall, Use of Force, Rise of The Cartels: International Drug Trafficking In The America's, and Organized Crime Today. The second floor provides exhibits: Kefauver Hearings, Historic Courtroom, Open City, Skim Room, Las Vegas Goes Straight, Spinning A Deadly Web, and Mob's Greatest Hits. Lastly, the third floor consists of: Birth of The Mob, Crime Gets Organized, A Tough Little Town, Prohibition, St. Valentine’s Day Massacre Wall, Massacre Evidence, The Feds Fight Back, Follow The Money, and The Tentacles Spread. This Museum also offers multiple kinds of Moonshine to bring home if you visit The Underground in the basement. There you’ll also be able to go to the bar and order a plethora of cocktails, beers, wines, food, dessert, and even have a Whiskey Tasting. General admission costs: $29.95 which includes all exhibits. The Deluxe Pass costs $44.95 which includes all exhibits and one interactive experience. Lastly, the Premier Pass costs $48.95, which includes all exhibits PLUS two interactive experiences.
Twelve: Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum
Tumblr media
The one I'm specifically interested in is located in Wisconsin. Of course we all know that this museum is filled with strange and interesting things, but why am I specifically interested in visiting this one? Well, it’s because of the severed and preserved head of Peter Kurten, who was a German serial killer also known as “The Vampire of Dusseldorf.” He committed a series of murders and sexual assaults between the months of February and November in 1929. He was called a vampire due to the attempts he made to drink the blood out of his victims wounds. He was executed at age 48 in 1931 by beheading. Before his head was placed on the guillotine, he asked the psychiatrist: “Tell me… after my head is chopped off, will I still be able to hear, at least for a moment, the sound of my own blood gushing from the stump of my neck? That would be the pleasure to end all pleasures.” Admission costs $21.99 for ages 10+, and $15.99 for ages 3-9.

Idea for a “Dark Pictures Anthology” future installment:
1) NAME OF THE GAME
The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Emperor’s Wrath
2) PROLOGUE
1165, Japan. It is one year after the death of former Emperor Sutoku, who had abdicated and was exiled. Sutoku, who devoted himself to a monastic life after his exiling, offered scriptures to the Imperial court. The court rejected his scriptures since they feared the documents were cursed, incurring Sutoku’s wrath. Sutoku carried this grudge to his deathbed.
During one particular night, a samurai warrior named Iori Kitagawa and a saburuko/serving girl named Marin Yamamoto notice a strange fog engulfing the entire court. Suddenly, they hear screams as people begin to fall victim to something hidden in the mist. Iori and Marin manage to escape the court, but even they too can’t escape the inevitable.
Before Iori and Marin are killed, they see who it is that’s wreaking havoc on the court; Emperor Sutoku, whose appearance has been greatly distorted, looking more like a ghastly ghoul. Sutoku has become an onryo (vengeful spirit).
3) MAIN STORY
Present day, Tokyo, Japan. Randall West, the CEO of a major American media conglomerate, finishes up a meeting with the heads of a Japanese company seeking a partnership. Along with Randall is his wife, Amanda West, and his lawyer/best friend, Wade Jefferson. His mistress Kelly Mason, Randall’s personal assistant who is at least 20 years younger than him, is also with Randall in Japan. Although Randall believes he’s doing a good job in keeping his affair a secret, Amanda already knows but doesn’t care since she’s having an affair as well.
(Affair is not with Wade, Amanda’s side guy isn’t actually seen in the story)
With the official meeting done, Randall, Amanda, Wade, Kelly, and a few of their mutual friends all go on a late night visit to the Tokyo National Museum. They’re paired up with a tour guide named Naoya Fukawa, a history nerd who is fully aware of the story of Emperor Sutoku, now known as one of the “Three Great Onryō of Japan”. Although it’s way past the museum’s hours, the owners of the museum set up a special visit just for Randall and his group.
The reason; to see the never-before-seen exhibit containing the long-lost scriptures written by Emperor Sutoku. Apparently, they were found a few weeks earlier and haven’t been available for the public to view so far, making Randall and his group among the first to see the scriptures.
What should’ve been a fun visit to the museum turns into a nightmare when the survivors realize too late that Sutoku’s scriptures are cursed. Since the writings have been moved from their original spot, Sutoku’s vengeful spirit rises once again and traps everyone inside the museum in order to wreak havoc on them.
Depending on the players’ choices, Randall, Wade, Amanda, Kelly, and Naoya can survive the night and put Emperor Sutoku’s spirit to rest…or fall victim to the wrath of the onryo.
4) INSPIRATIONS/INFLUENCES
This was mainly inspired by the legend of Emperor Sutoku, one of the “Three Great Onryō of Japan”. That’s essentially how Sutoku’s story goes, in that his spirit haunted the royal court, leading to disasters and unrest. This is keeping in line with all the other titles since each one was inspired by something in the past (the Ourang Medan, Salem Witch Trials, the Curse of Akkad, H.H. Holmes).
In terms of movies, mainly J-horror. Movies like “Ringu” and “Ju-On”. Obviously, this is different from typical onryo movies since the main villain is a male ghost, but the overall concept remains the same.
In terms of other influences, there’s the video game “Corpse Party” in which a bunch of people are trapped inside this cursed school, haunted by a malevolent ghost.
5) MAIN PLAYABLE CAST
1) Kelly Mason (SENSITIVE, ANXIOUS, DEFENSIVE): Randall’s personal assistant and his secret mistress, despite being 20 years younger than him. Kelly is the character played by the celebrity guest, which is Hailee Steinfeld (where you may have seen her in: Dickinson, Hawkeye, Spider-Verse, Edge of Seventeen).
2) Randall West (VINDICTIVE, CHARMING, EGO-DRIVEN): The CEO of a major American company, Amanda’s husband, and Kelly’s lover. His face model is Luis Augusto, whose face was also used for Salim Othman.
3) Amanda West (CYNICAL, UNDERSTANDING, HEADSTRONG): Randall’s wife who is well-aware of her husband’s cheating and is engaged in her own affair. Based on the past games, I don’t have an actress in mind for the face model, so I’ll say that a new actress can play Amanda.
4) Wade Jefferson (RELAXED, COMPASSIONATE, AMIABLE): Randall’s lawyer and best friend. His face model is Leonardo Patane, whose face was also used for Jeff Whitman and Simon Carver.
5) Naoya Fukawa (WITTY, INNOCENT, INQUISITIVE): A tour guide at the Tokyo National Museum who is assigned to Randall’s party. He is the only one of the group who knows about the legend of Emperor Sutoku. His face model is Jozef Aoki, whose face was also used for Danny from Man of Medan and Corporal Merwin.
6) PROLOGUE PROTAGONISTS
1) Iori Kitagawa: A samurai serving the Imperial court. Based on the past games, I don’t have an actor in mind for the face model, so I’ll say that a new actor can play Iori.
2) Marin Yamamoto: A saburuko/serving girl working for the Imperial court. Her face model is Ashley Voom, whose face was also used for Felicity Graves (Hidden Agenda) and Suzanne Daniels (The Inpatient).
7) THE SURVIVABILITY OF EACH PROTAGONIST
1) Iori and Marin die no matter what. It’s up to the player to decide the order and manner in which they die.
2) Randall West is the first character to possibly die (at the end of Act 1).
3) Wade Jefferson is the second character to possibly die (during the middle of Act 2).
4) Either Amanda West or Kelly Mason can be the third character to possibly die (at the end of Act 2). There’s a sequence in which both characters are in danger, resulting in at least one of them possibly getting killed off. If one of them dies, the survivor gets plot armor going into Act 3.
5) The only characters guaranteed to make it to Act 3 are Naoya and either Kelly or Amanda. Kelly and Amanda can both make it, but if one ends up dying, the other is guaranteed to continue on. So the least amount of survivors going into Act 3 (if the players have been making a lot of bad choices) can be either Naoya/Kelly or Naoya/Amanda.
6) Naoya can only die in Act 3. Naoya has the strongest plot armor since he’s the only one with previous knowledge of Emperor Sutoku.
7) All this being said, like the previous games, any of the characters can survive. You can have a Randall sole survivor ending, everyone survives ending, no one survives ending, Kelly and Wade survive ending, Naoya and Amanda survive ending, and so on.

Stuntboy: In Between Time HC - Jason Reynolds & Raul The Third
Portico Reeves is the greatest superhero a lot of people have never heard of. He likes it that way-then no one can get in the way of him from keeping other other people safe. Super safe. He's Stuntboy. He's got the moves. And the saves. Except. There's been one major fail. He couldn't save his parents from becoming Xs. Which is a word that sounds like coughing up a hairball. But don't talk to him about the divorce, because of the hairball thing, and also, it gives Portico the frets. What's also giving him frets is his parents living on two separate floors in their apartment building. He's never fully with one parent or the other. He's in-between, all the time. The in-between time. And the elevator is busted, so to get between floors means getting past the bullies who hang in the stairwells. So when Portico and new friend, Herbert, and best best friend, Zola, discover an empty apartment, unlocked, they are psyched. It's a perfect hideout, and hangout, and it's not half anyone's... it's all theirs. So they decide to make it their own...let's say with stunts of the drawing kind. Problem is, that gives some Grown Up People the frets, which leads to double frets for Portico. And he's not sure his arsenal of stunts can combat that.
