*screaming* I just finished watching
Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru / A Corpse is Buried Under Sakurako's Feet
And like there is def still more story for one and that ENDING god damn I wish there was another season.
Who is this Hanabusa, is he somehow connected with what happened to her younger brother? Hell what happened to him - like obviously he's dead but what happened? How did he die?
Really gonna have to go read the manga now huh - least it's only 17 volumes so pretty short.
God hard to believe it aired nearly 10 years ago 2015 does not feel that long ago what the fuck. Chances of it getting another season probably slim to none but man it needs one can't just leave us on a cliff hanger like that RUDE

Finished Beautiful Bones Sakurako's Investigations it's been on my list for awhile but HiDIVE keeps getting and then dropping it over and over again sadly. So I was finally able to take the time to watch it.
It was really good. the character Sakurako is stylistically very much an update of classic detectives like Holmes and Poirot but is also unique enough to be interesting. The show itself doesn't quite live up to her character reminding me more of a what if Hyouka was r rated and dealt with forensic science. Not that I don't like Hyouka but both it and Beautiful Bones are too focused on the human element to be considered great mystery shows to me.

what are some series / movies / comics / creators / directors / art pieces / etc. that you connect as what an adaptation would look or feel like for ai the somnium files or the sequel? or any reference scenes , gifs , moments , art works , music for characters or scenes?
for some reason i feel like the aesthetic / cinematography / direction of occultic;nine (like seriously!!!) , blood blockade battlefront, rie matsumoto , sakurako’s investigation /  Sakurako san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru,   satoshi kon (paranoia agent , paprika , millennum actress, etc.) , the visuals of revue starlight , the direction of naoko yamada and mitsuo iso (orbital children), the cowboy bebop movie for some reason (maybe its the lighting or the choreography (that entire train fight though) or narrative idk ) , would make for a neat adaptation
(please share your thoughts with me , cant stop thinking about this idea)

Beautiful Bones: A Mystery of All Types of Remains
vimeo
Figure 1. Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru opening credits (2015)
Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru also known as A Corpse is Buried Under Sakurako's Feet, also also known as Beautiful Bones: Sakurako's Investigation, or just simply Beautiful Bones is an anime adapted from the light novel series of the same name(s) written by Shiori Ōta with illustrations by Tetsuo. In it, a modern, Japanese female Sherlock Homes, obsessed with skeletal remains named Kujou Sakurako and her high school aged Watson named Tatewaki Shoutarou solve mysteries by listening to bones. That’s it. That’s the show.

In all seriousness, this anime is a hidden gem. Let me fill you in:
The show opens with a hauntingly elegant piano and a voice over, “I was born in a city where time has ceased to exist”, showing simple text on a white background. Technically this line is just a metaphor for “peace and quiet” as explained roughly 1 second later, but the point is you immediately get the sense that this show is heavy in figurative language and imagery. This remains true throughout. For example, death is a common topic, and many of the motifs are symbolic of it.

Figure 3. Key visual for the anime (Paul Chapman, 2015)
In the very first episode of the show they explain the existence of a story in Japan that states “dead bodies are buried underneath cherry trees”. The cherry tree, called “sakura” in Japanese, is present throughout. As Shoutarou is walking to school, sakura petals quietly fall down, and soon he discovers a cat dead in the road. He picks it up, then buries it in the school yard underneath – you guessed it – a sakura tree. Even the name Sakurako has the word “sakura” in it. It makes sense now that the title of the show is A Corpse is Buried Under Sakurako's Feet, doesn’t it? Beyond that, a simple butterfly is also a symbol of death. In the first episode, it is in reference to the sphenoid bone, which is a delicate bone inside the human skull which is in the shape of a butterfly. But wait! There’s more. Unfortunately, this gets into the grey area of spoiler territory, but let it be known that butterflies also represent a larger evil in the background.

That being said, there are also plenty of times that the subject of death is breached in a direct and even insensitive manner due to Sakurako’s nature. The depictions of bodies and remains can be graphic at times, but because it is the premise of the show, I believe that this is a reasonable design choice. As Shoutarou says in the first episode, “Real death gives people pause. As it should”, and the point being made is that Sakurako is not normal in that regard. In fact, she just gets excited!
In general, Beautiful Bones has very consistent visuals: high quality animation, but a basic design. However, certain moments shine through, like the one below.

Figure 6. Sakurako gets ready to solve a mystery (2018)
The wide array of colors. The bones all coming alive around Sakurako as she gets ready to listen to them. The fluidity of the wind in her hair and the whale over her head. The music. Even just the rhythm of her voice as she says her line (which translates to, “Now, let us solve the mystery”). They all come together to create a stunningly abstract, yet concrete vision. This concept of making the abstract real happens many times, especially when she is explaining her deductions. The characters all react to the images as if they were truly there, only to be thrown back into reality when she is done explaining. It gives the audience the sense that Sakurako’s words are so detailed they seem to come to life right before your eyes, while also giving a nice visual representation of otherwise hard to grasp information.
In conclusion, Beautiful Bones may seem average at first glance, but soon enough, it becomes clear that the depth of the characters, the music, the visuals, and more all meet to create an anime worth watching.  That being said, I’ll say viewer discretion is advised for those particularly upset by the depiction and discussion of death and other heavy topics. Regardless, if you are looking for a mystery, this is an anime worth thinking about.
*An interesting species of butterfly known for its unique taste in meals…

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru Vol. 2 translation
First bone - Sleeping bones
Chapter 1
When I open my eyes in the morning, the moment I see the blue sky, it makes me feel great the whole day. Even though people say summer in Asahikawa is extremely hot, I still love summer, especially when the weather is fine. While cloudy days, rainy days and snowy days each have their own advantages, whenever it's a fine summer day, especially one on which the morning sky is devoid of clouds, I get especially excited and cannot resist going out to play. Furthermore, today is the weekend after completing my exams! How could I stay at home?
I had furiously saved up, and recently bought a Bianchi mountain bike (it's Italian!). Cycling alone is a little boring, plus I wanted to go someplace a little further, so I immediately thought of Sakurako-san, and decided to call and ask her.
Gran was in a good mood like me. After chatting with me for a bit, she passed the phone to Sakurako-san, and it seemed that she was about to head out, how lucky.
"I'm going to Toma, do you want to come?"
"Eh? Toma?"
The town of Toma is in the middle of Kamikawa subprefecture in Hokkaido, just next to Asahikawa, and the local specialty is the top grade 'densuke watermelon' with a black rind, red flesh, and refreshing sweet juice, and some of the best rice in Hokkaido. Anyone who has lived in Hokkaido will have seen the word 'Toma' on produce at the supermarket, but Toma itself  is just a sleepy rural village, with only an expanse of fields for scenery.
So hearing her say that she was going to Toma, my reaction was obviously: why?
"Oh, I'm going to pick roses. The roses at Ms. Shouko's place are already past their season, but a rose farmer in Toma that she knows says that there are good quality roses that we can have for free." Sakurako-san explained.
"Toma has roses?"
"Toma's summer roses are a national treasure, you don't even know this 'common knowledge'?"
You don't have to say it like that, I'm not familiar with flowers.
"Toma, huh…"
Getting roses doesn't sound too bad, but the trip sounds a little boring and doesn't interest me as much as a leisurely cycle… Oh right! Other than watermelons, Toma has another attraction worth seeing!
"Can we go to the stalactite caves on the way?"
"Stalactite caves?"
"Yeah, there are some stalactite caves on the way, legend has it that they're home to a dragon goddess. I went there when I was little."
There, one can see the rare natural stalactites of Hokkaido (also called macaroni stalactites), that are tube-like from base to tip. When I went there, I was very young, and do not remember much of the experience, so I hoped to visit there again.
"…Well, that's fine. There's also somewhere I want to go on the way." Sakurako-san pondered for a moment, before cheerfully replying.
"I'll fetch you in 15 minutes."
--Click.
"Eh? Ah…"
She'd hung up before I could reply.
"15 minutes!"
I was sweating heavily, and rushed to shower and change as fast as possible. With some difficulty, I hurried to our usual meeting place within 15 minutes - a fast food shop near the Twin Harp bridge. However, Sakurako-san had no sense of time, and arrived 20 minutes later than the arranged meeting time. I was left waiting in an airconditioned room with my still-wet hair, and nearly caught a cold.
