siobhan thompson appreciation post because her characters just make me so happy and they're so. good. she's so good at characters! spoilers for every intrepid heroes season of d20. i could do a whole other post about her sidequest characters bc they're so good.
Adaine Abernant. The Elven Oracle. She's always been one of my absolute favorite characters ever. Her anxiety representation in the first season makes me feel more seen, understood, and represented than any other character ever. She's literally so cool! She starts freshman year as an awkward nerd and becomes a cool nerd! Her anxiety never goes away, but the medication makes it manageable. She hates her parents because they're awful! Just the rep of having awful parents and hating them and that's okay because they suck! You should hate your parents if they suck as bad as the Abernants! Not everyone gets a redemption arc. If they suck, they suck.
Misty/Rowan. Misty is the perfect representation of an old lady who gives no fucks. She flirts so hard with that guy at the pixie wedding. She openly admits to having been friends with John Wilkes Booth. But at the same time? Will not give her age. A lady never tells. She's absolutely ancient and doesn't fucking care, but she also has this undertone of absolute existential panic because she needs adoration to survive! She stays relevant because she has to! Don't get me started on Rowan. I have a crush on Rowan Berry. She's reborn and immediately starts flirting with Pete, which is iconic in its own right. She's a bard who gives bardic inspiration by either flirting or complimenting, and sometimes the lines blur just a little bit. Absolute queen shit. She defeats the queen of Faerie and has no desire to go back until the Fae court tells her hey. You left us with no leader. And then brings democracy to Faerie! President Rowan!
Ruby Rocks! She starts the season as a kid who loves her sister just so much. That's the most integral part of her character. She's a princess and a rogue, and she loves her sister. She has a lot of development over the season! She ends as a woman who fights for her family and her country. She hates Saccharina when they first meet, a new sister on the tails of the loss of the most important person she's ever had. After Jet's death, she's overcome with grief and takes a level of shadow sorcerer because of it! Her development is amazing, a truly wonderful arc.
Iga Lizowski! Oh. My. God. She's the first pc that is a mom in d20, or at least in the Intrepid Heroes. Her relationship with her kids is so fun to watch, from urging Jessica to engage with the chest to bringing her into another part of the Unsleeping City. Then Nick, who she hadn't pressed at all to take responsibility for the chest, decides to become another defender of his family's magic! Not only is she an amazing mother, she's a fortune teller by trade! She knows full well that everything she does has merit, and that magic is real, but makes it all seem like a lie to cater to her clientele. It's not her intention to become a part of the Dream Team, but when her family is threatened, she fights like hell. Also she has a pseudodragon that's just a magical chihuahua and that's so old ladycore it's such a perfect choice.
Riva. They're just on their gallivant, honestly. They decorate their psychodrone with magnets. They're trying to sell pleasure putty. They make their own hours, but they don't know how. Riva is sweet and fun and naive. They love their friends and they love the outside world and they're having a great ass time on their gallivant.
Rosamund. Du. Prix. Quick little shoutout to Siobhan's princess voice because no joke she did my favorite accent. It borders on transatlantic (my favorite accent) but is very Disney princess. She starts as a Disney princess, too! To have a character looking for her true love wake up, search for him, and ultimately sacrifice her chance at having him is *mwah* beautiful. True love isn't real! She directly confronts this, and a member of her party is living proof of it. She has to see the prince who came to save her, and upon meeting him, she realizes how fucked the idea is. He kisses her once and that's all? She doesn't know him, she doesn't love him. How can she live happily ever after with him? Her story is about having things happen to her, but she wrenches the pen from the authors' hands and writes her fucking own! Once upon a time, there was a princess who tried speed dating!

SHARE d20 THOUGHTS
bea you are so kind to me So kind. ok buckle in babes!
ranking d20 seasons by how compelled i feel to do a full scale rewrite picking apart and rearranging the bones
DISCLAIMER: this list is not in order of how much i like or dislike the seasons. i also recognize that in an improv format, especially comedy-focused, people make decisions that aren’t character or theme driven. none of the cast are Wrong for any of the choices i’m going to critique here. that’s just the name of the game. HOWEVER:
1. a starstruck odyssey
ah the reason i’m making this list. aso has SO MUCH POTENTIAL LIKE THERES SO MUCH GOOD STUFF IN THERE!!!!! i just think it failed to resolve its arcs satisfyingly. @cloudmancy and @grasslandgirl (EDIT: and @lichfucker ) have made GREAT posts on norman takamori which i encourage everyone to read and burn into their brains. but also like. the stuff with barry nyne drives me insane i hated that so much </3. why did prillbus choose him. how did the king of brain slugs get in a zoo exhibit. in the wise words of sav:
Tumblr media
AND THE ARC PLAYED SO WELL WITH SID! which, by the way, the warfare whitneys getting remade falls into the same thing of like oh ok. sid dealing with being a keeper of souls didn’t actually matter bc she’s not anymore.
there’s just this aspect of. the random factor was stressed so often and it was so cool and delightful whenever things happened to align and like. the way that it turned out oh norman and skip and barry and marge are all connected to this world ending plot in the end! just felt so against that theme bc it was very clear and obvious where the metahand of narrative was coming in. like it would have been way more engaging and impactful if the wurst really had just randomly stumbled onto saving the galaxy ESPECIALLY bc thats their whole thing! no chosen ones no saviors we are a bunch of idiot mercenaries here by accident!
also loose duke should not have been on the ship they rly beat that one to death early lol
2. misfits and magic
i love mismag with all my heart and soul but that does not mean she is safe from me !!!!! people have beaten to death the centralization of evan in the narrative so i don’t think i have to talk about that but i also think k’s arc could have been a lot smoother. i love the feral princess i think it’s like k taking this thing that’s always been pushed onto them that’s pushed onto them again (aggressive femininity, girlhood) and making it their own but i wish they’d had the time and the space to lean more into that whole thing of like. Taking magic and forming it into what I WANT it to be. Nature AND nurture AND intention bc thats the whole. that’s the season’s whole self determination thing. anyways more jammer more sam!!! would have loved to see more of jammer’s team building i want him to give everyone nicknames i want to see him struggle with his world becoming so much bigger and more complex. and seeing more of sam’s leadership and the way she goes from internet influencer to like irl influence like the scene w her teaching the kids how to mukbang was so good i want more of that. ALSO poly pilot program real
3. a crown of candy
every day i think about the world where we got those four lost episodes. i don’t think it would fix everything but like acoc NEEDS more time towards the end, you can tell something is missing. honestly it’s so perfectly done for the first half and then it just kind of… falls off a tiny bit? there are moments towards the end that are fantastic but i really don’t like how it resolved. i feel like everyone and their mother has talked about liam’s wish and how rough that was (my personal favorite replacement for that choice is for a peppermint tree to grow over the spot where keradin and the pontifex are buried as a representation of the strengthening of magic in candia which might be august’s idea?) but also idk i just feel like cumulous didn’t hit as hard for me. and saccharina is the love of my life literally one of my fave characters ever but her cinnamon arc felt really rushed (which, yes, missing episodes). i just feel like after jet’s death the pacing and themes get so muddy (yes missing episodes yes i know). anyways brennan wishes he had what prince consort calroy doc and sweet religion doc have
4. mice and murder
mice and murder is SOOOO CLOSEEEE but it trips over the finish line. honestly some of it was the dice being fickle but like. there were choices. anyways i said it best when it was airing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also i wish vicar ian had more to do. he had some killer moments but he didn’t feel as connected as the rest of the group did yknow
5. pirates of leviathan, fantasy high seasons 1 and 2, the seven aka The Spyre Spot
this is the spot in the list where i run out of specific rewrite energy but they’re not quite in the Perfect tier. honestly pirol is so good SO slept on i literally just wish it had better video quality which is no ones fault. also i wish it were longer so they had more time to get their footing! and fantasy high is classic and very good but there are still some things i would change (fabian in the nightmare forest for one! i hate how he isn’t taken seriously, acknowledgement that penelope and dayne blade were also children groomed by an ancient dragon, i think kristen’s arcs are a little clumsily done, etc). the seven is also delightful and hilarious and its themes are done beautifully but i did not think the combat was done well lol. i think brennan got some bad asks and wasn’t hard enough on saying no, and while again there were some really good moments i think it dragged more than combat normally does but that’s #justmysillyopinion
6. the unsleeping city, escape from the bloodkeep
the perfect seasons. i would not change a single thing, they achieve everything they set out to do and they do it beautifully. and hilariously!
7. shriek week, tiny heist
i liked these seasons but i don’t think there’s enough there to really dig in yknow? like i enjoyed my time but i don’t feel compelled to rewatch
8. tuc2 my beloathed
i’m sorry i just don’t care for tuc2 i pretend she doesn’t exist 💔
@catoptrific and @theamazinggrayson also asked about this!!

I think my favorite thing about Saccharina is just that like... she came in right after Jet’s death. So everyone was in a lot of pain. And she’s like, “Hey, I’m your sister and daughter now.” And the way she expected everyone to immediately accept her is fucking wild to me but totally in line with her character. But also, I seriously can’t blame the others for not being willing to immediately fold her into their hearts! Like seriously?! It had been a matter of weeks and she’s honestly done nothing to endear herself to them. AND IT’S A TWO WAY STREET. But they weren’t ready and she was pushing too hard and when she didn’t immediately get what she wanted, she shut them out. It’s so emotionally immature and such intense intertable drama and I fucking love it.

Oh heck yeah!! What's the tattoo, if you don't mind me asking?
Oh definitely!! I think Saccharina was my favorite character in ACOC, and I LOVED seeing Ally turn Liam into a killing machine! Brennan saying "what happened to Liam?" In the most bewildered, exasperated voice is what I live for.
But oh man I definitely get you with the religious trauma stuff. I was raised in an extremely Catholic family so... Yeah. I get it. But Lapin kinda reminds me a little of my mom's best friend when I was growing up! He was one of our priests and he had some SCATHING words to say about some people when he wasn't in priest mode, which was always very funny to see!
Ajdhdhd correct me if I'm wrong, but are you the person who was super excited about the new FOB album coming out next week? Bc if so, I also love FOB and next week I'm gonna be torn between obsessing over the new neverafter episode and listening to the new album!
- 🪐
It's this, without the gold color, and it's on my chest just a little bit higher than where it would be were i wearing a TOS uniform ^_^
Tumblr media
The first time I watched acoc, I disliked Saccharina at first, but after thinking more about her and then rewatching it, I've come to really like her. So much so that she's the Emily PC I picked to knit a scarf based on lol
"Someone killed my BEST. FRIEND." is something I think about regularly for sure
(My sincerest apologies if this offends, I mean it purely in jest.) At least your religious trauma's got great aesthetics- I was raised Mormon lmfao
Holy shit that's fucking hilarious 🤣
I absolutely the fuck am!! I start fuckin vibrating whenever I think about the fact that we're getting another song in only 6 days.
I think the song's gonna come out earlier in the day, so my plan is to lose it over the song for a few hours, switch to neverafter mode, and then have the song as the background music for the inevitable spiral of thoughts and theories and emotions

I’ve finished a Crown of Candy and all the adventuring partys for it and I loved it I love this show !!!
I think for every season of d20 I’ve wanted to recommend it to friends, but this season I especially would love to sit down and watch it with my friends, how wonderful
I don’t know what to watch next tho!! There’s only two seasons left to go thru, The Unsleeping City II and Mice and Murder! Thing is I kinda don’t wanna head right into another full campaign so close after the end of the last one, but also Mice & Murder isn’t finished yet :(
Darn darn darn gotta figure this out

and sisters
Written for Day 3 of @acocweek; Hurt/Comfort + Favorite Scene + the Twins.
When Saccharina's eyes meet Ruby's from across the battlefield, it would be easier than anything to kill her. Her arrows aren't anything special; it's her bow that's distinctive. No one would know. But there's something in her expression--the way her fear fades into an acceptance, into a cautious hope, that makes her think of Jet. It's not an expression Jet carried or anything; Jet was all brash confidence and loyalty, would never look at Ruby with anything other than love.
But still.
They talk, Saccharina sitting on a monster and Ruby feeling like one. She lets her bow drop without nocking an arrow, walks through the ruins of her old home and sees the rest of her family alive and well. Frosting on her father's sword reassures her that Jet is well and truly avenged, and Theobald reminds them that Amethar can be Emperor instead of King and that Saccharina can be Queen without her dragon eating Ruby's--their father alive.
Everything's fine, basically. Ruby still feels like she needs to kill someone, if only to do something with her hands.
She wanders the halls with her bow over her shoulder, watches Liam and Primsy awkwardly flirt hanging from one of the windows, goes to the grove and thanks Lapin for everything he did. It'll be interesting to see how Liam's wish works out, anyway, from the capital city.
"I might spend some time here," she says to Amethar at dinner, a rushed affair with too many people and no table manners, like Saccharina's feast in the mountains. Caramelinda gently reminds Liam to keep his elbows off the table, but then there's a pissing contest out of one of the windows.
Ruby's starting to understand what Annabelle means about Candians.
"What, you mean, Candia?" Amethar asks. He's acting like everything's normal, other than making stilted conversation with Saccharina rather than avoiding her entirely. Saccharina seems thrilled, excitedly talking about her plans for bringing magic back.
"Your, um. Your sister Jet," Amethar says hesitantly, and Ruby stabs her fork into the food in front of her. She's not--angry, exactly. Not at Saccharina. She deserves to know about Jet, to hear about the sister she could've known.
But fuck, it's hard to hear it in the room she had dinner with her in thousands of times, where there's still a stain on the carpet from them trying to sneak some of their dad's cola, where a portrait of the two of them hangs on the wall, pinkie-in-pinkie, lockets faintly glowing.
"I'm heading to bed," she tells them with a small, forced smile. Her mother opens her mouth to say something, but she's already made her way past most of the crowd, marauders and Tartguard and Dairy Islander allies and all.
Ruby's room had always been Ruby and Jet's room. It's the first time she's been in it since the night of their Saint's Day, giggling about a trip to Comida to meet Thad and sneak away to join the circus.
If fucking only, right?
She uses magic to quickly light the sconces in the room, casting a shadow that she knows won't have the long braid she wants to see. She turns to look anyway.
Ruby's braids have been in for awhile, and suddenly she needs them out as soon as possible, is seconds from cutting them off far higher than she needs to with her blade just to not have to see them anymore. But--no. She thinks she might let it grow out, enough for a long braid like Jet's.
She sneaks out of the room--people are still busy at the feast, so she can probably find a room with a mirror so she can at least try to get them out without hurting herself or damaging her hair too much.
The first few rooms she tries have people in it--Annabelle and a young Candian soldier she doesn't know, Primsy and Liam holding hands, one of Saccharina's marauders passed out over the back of a chair, for some reason.
The seventh room she checks is empty and has a mirror without a bunch of cracks in it, and she's about to head inside when she hears someone call her name.
Ruby twirls around, already nocking an arrow and drawing her bowstring back when she sees Saccharina, hands raised with a shield sparking between her fingertips. She drops the bow. "Sorry! I didn't--realize it was you."
"Forgiven," Saccharina says, and Ruby's not sure if the twist in her stomach is humor or annoyance. "It's been a long day. I didn't mean to scare you."
"Is everything fine?" Ruby asks. "You should be celebrating."
"I wanted to check on you," Saccharina says, and when Ruby can't quite bite back her expression of disbelief, she continues, "That's part of compromise. Which is part of being family. I'm told."
The awkwardly formality has Ruby's shoulders tensing, but she's not wrong, and Ruby doesn't miss the way that Saccharina seems unsure about it even as she says it.
"I'm okay," Ruby lies, and Saccharina nods with a little frown. "I wanted to take my braids out. You could, uh. Help?"
"Certainly easier than taking them out yourself," Saccharina says, and Ruby exhales a little huff of annoyance. "I can."
The mirror in the room is against a wall, but Saccharina uses some magic Ruby hasn't seen before to levitate it next to one of the chairs, so Ruby can sit on the floor and Saccharina can reach her braids without either needing to contort themselves to make it work.
When Ruby needed to take care of her hair during their travels through Calorum and on the Dairy Sea, Jet would help her. After Jet--after, her dad had been surprisingly good at it, only managing a gruff helped Sapphria a lot as explanation.
Saccharina's fingers are quick and she manages to comb through Ruby's curls to untangle them without yanking her head back. It's clear it's not the first time she's done this, and if Ruby were a little kinder, she'd ask about that.
Instead, Ruby keeps herself occupied by practicing a few cantrips. It's Saccharina who breaks the silence when she's about halfway through Ruby's hair, asking, "Was it because Amethar told me about Jet?"
"Don't--" Ruby says, makes herself stop and take a deep breath. "I--it's not easy, to talk about her."
"I'm sorry," Saccharina says. "I can't imagine."
"It's..." Ruby sighs. She's not generous enough to say something like you lost her, too, even if you didn't know her or feeling venomous enough to say no, you can't, since you never had anyone, did you? even if she is enough of a bitch to think it.
"You don't have to tell me about Jet," Saccharina says. "But if you ever do, I'd like to hear about her."
There's so much Ruby could say, half about Jet and half punishing Saccharina for daring to ask, especially when Ruby's hair is still barely half done.
"I think she would've liked you," Ruby says, and pretends not to notice the way Saccharina's hands still.
"Amethar was telling me that she liked to fight," Saccharina says, and Ruby laughs before she can stop herself.
"She always said she was meant for the battlefield," Ruby says. "She--really loved it. The idea of it, anyway. Flickerish was hers before it was mine. She--"
It wasn't the battlefield that killed her, though. It was Calroy, setting a trap. It was Ciabatta, with the dagger. It was Ruby, daring her to sneak around when they both knew they shouldn't.
"Another time?" Saccharina asks.
Ruby nods, winces when the comb in Saccharina's hand tugs at her hair painfully. Saccharina takes out the rest of Ruby's braids in silence, and they don't say goodbye. But when she goes to sleep in her old room, Ruby's calm enough to fall asleep there.
Progress.

ooh director's commentary for spinning a whirlpool of forget-me-nots!!
thank you bea!!!
this was written as a treat for @staggeringsmite for the d20 fic exchange, and i became immediately obsessed with ruby & saccharina’s dynamic post-finale. i think what’s fascinating is them having all of this baggage from their own lives & how they handled their relationship when they first met & how to move past that & work together.
i also LOVED centering it around the lazuli statue/the statue room in general. i think it’s so fitting to have them surrounded by ancestors that they never knew except through their legacies and also like. the idea that in a different life this convo could be taking place in a room surrounded by living relatives. it just makes me so!
last note on lazuli - i’m really proud of the juxtaposition of lazuli as a larger-than-life statue watching over this conversation as ruby tells a silly, humanizing story of all the sisters & amethar. something abt it just makes me soooo emotional!
favorite section:
Slowly, so slowly she almost misses it, Ruby begins to nod. It’s heavy, and Saccharina can almost feel how much it’s taking out of her to acknowledge the truth of what Saccharina said. She swallows, and when she looks back up at Saccharina, her face is damp.
“She would have loved you,” she says quietly, and Saccharina feels something inside her shatter. Growing up alone was the hardest thing that Saccharina ever had to do, and even just having one sister in the past weeks has been revolutionary. If she had had two -
She can’t let herself think about it, can’t let herself mourn this sister she never even met. Instead, she says, “From what you’ve told me, I know I would’ve loved her.” She says it as gently as she can - this moment feels so delicate, as if any wrong move would crush it into pieces in front of her.
Ruby looks up, a small smile on her face, and before Saccharina can even blink, Ruby is wrapping her arms around Saccharina’s neck in a hug.
here is the link if anyone wants to read it!
send me one of my fics & i’ll do a director’s commentary on it!

Tangentially related to your Sorcerer comments (and I know I'm not the first to say it) I think Sorcerer is a better multi-class mixer than stand-alone class. Meta magic with a Bard, Warlock, or Cleric is just *chef's kiss* And especially if the Sorcerer influence happens as a result of something in-game. So instead of being born into it without agency, it's the result of f-ing around and finding out with powerful magic or other-planar/ powerful beings.
Here's the thing: there is a class that is about fucking around and finding out with extraplanar and/or powerful beings and it's called warlock and it's better.
I do like sorcerer multiclasses and I agree it stacks very well mechanically, but actually the two characters who come to mind do not fit the above mold, story wise. One discovers they're a sorcerer early on, and that is the only power she has in an otherwise disadvantaged situation (Saccharina from A Crown of Candy, whose sorcery let her escape the orphanage, openly worship a banned deity, and become the leader of a rebellion). The other has the influence happening later, coming out of nowhere, and being pretty much wholly unwanted to start (Fitzroy from TAZ: Graduation, who just wanted to be a knight but then the wild magic happened).
I guess what I'm saying is that I am going to jokingly vibe check sorcerers but that doesn't mean there aren't good reasons to play one, and if you've done so, at least fucking own it. I mentioned at the start that I still like a lot of sorcerer characters, and there are still valid reasons to pick it. If you want to use metamagic with cleric spells just play a cleric and take the metamagic feat early on, but if you want to tell a story of someone who was chosen by a god because of their bloodline or a prophecy, not because of their faith and devotion, then yeah I think a divine soul sorcerer is a great idea. I think sorcerer can be a way to explore power and privilege in D&D, and who you are fundamentally vs. what you choose to do. I've always thought that a partial Watsonian explanation for why D&D settings tend to be relatively egalitarian is that deep down everyone knows that sorcerers are rare but they truly could come from anywhere.
I should finally add that I love mechanics/D&D class questions so this isn't to discourage it but also like...I want to assure everyone that I think sorcerers have the worst vibes of all the D&D classes and I'm not terribly into the mechanics, but I never said I didn't like them. They're not my favorite but I think you can find a good story behind pretty much any D&D build, and I think the best stories don't necessarily come from deliberate subversion of those archetypes but rather more subtly playing with them.

I love A Crown of Candy, I think it may be my favorite D20 season. But I just cannot seem to like Saccharina. Emily fights for her real hard in Adventuring Parties, and I know people like her, but there’s something so off putting to me about her not respecting a grieving period.

Who are your fave PC’s and NPC’s across all the campaigns? Mine are proooobably Saccharina and La Gran Gata (I’m just wild about Emily Axford is all that is lol)
Across all the campaigns? Ahhh that’s a hard one 😭
Probably Fabian for PCs. I immediately fell in love with him after he was introduced because he was very much this young boastful rich kid who you knew was hopelessly insecure and living in the shadow of his father off the bat. That vulnerability that carried on throughout season 1 and 2 have probably made him my favorite. But I feel you about loving Emily Axford, Fig/Sofia/Saccharina/Jet are all high up on my faves list. Like Jet!!! I adore her.
For NPCs I feel like I have a lot of faves. Obviously anytime Gilear gets screen time I’m immediately stoked but I wanna say Wally Kugrich. He’s just such a dumb dumb sweetie. The best guy and just utterly clueless but so hopeful. Wholly underrated. If there’s a Dimension 20 NPC venn diagram Gilear is on one end, Alistair Ash is on the other, and sweet Wally is in that space in the middle. Just the best, I hope we see more of him in tuc2.
Thank you for this ask! It was a really good one to think over.

Saccharina? ;3
Ooh, thank you!  Time for some Emily Axford Appreciation (it’s always time for Emily Axford Appreciation, let’s be honest)
favorite thing about them
She is so masterfully sympathetic and yet frightening as a character at the same time!  Like, Emily Axford is a queen among queens, Saccharina is a character that I sympathized with immediately because OUCH, she’s experienced so many terrible things and she keeps putting a brave face on while being so vulnerable underneath.  At the same time, she’s also complex and flawed, and I love that!  I love that she can be extreme sometimes, and vengeful, and cold, and I love that we can know where she’s coming from and still sympathize with her at the same time.  Just, what a beautiful, complex character, and what an amazing performance, we’re bow down to Emily Axford, she simply is the chaotic Lawful Queen of D&D.
least favorite thing about them
I’m really interested in the two levels of cleric she has, given Saccharina’s complicated relationship with faith, and I wish there had been more explanation in-game for that mechanic.  Does her faith come from belief in the spirits?  Dairy Island spirits or Candian spirits?  What does she believe in?
favorite line
“Those fools.  If they had just been straightforward with me, of course I would have used the throne to destroy the church and thereby making Amethar no longer excommunicated, and give him back his crown in one last desperate plea for his attention.  But the clannishness and myopic sympathy of royalty never fails to deliver.”
I mean, what a speech.  What a delivery.
brOTP
Saccharina and Liam!  I feel like the seeds (ha ha) are there for a shared curiosity in Candia’s land and secrets, and I want Saccharina to have a relationship with one person that isn’t majorly affected by fealty or complicated family dynamics.
OTP
i am Looking Respectfully at Saccharina/Gooey because that bodyguard/liege dynamic is one of my many weak spots, but I also think Saccharina/Annabelle could be interesting
nOTP
I don’t think I’ve really seen any Saccharina ship yet that I don’t like?
random headcanon
Saccharina isn’t a fluent reader.  She has enough literacy to read and write simple things, and Gooey will cover for her when she needs it, but she’s not a big scholar.  She’s really good at oral learning instead, and can recite anything she’s learned by ear.
unpopular opinion
I don’t know if it’s unpopular, but I actually don’t want Saccharina to continue leading the battle against the Church.  I think she’s done a very good job starting it, showing people that the Bulb is not all powerful and that it is flawed and can be challenged, but I don’t want the rest of her life to be spent fighting the Church.  I want other people to take up the mantle (the Meatlanders seem pretty enthusiastic) and Saccharina can support them, but I think she’s carried this fight her whole life so far, and she’s only in her early 20s, and she should be able to explore what else is out there, her other interests, instead of having to fight all the time.
song i associate with them
Shake It Out by Florence + the Machine!
favorite picture of them
Ooh, probably this one by @kindlespark! (link goes to reblog with image description)  She’s so poised and confident, with that little bit of mischief, and the lightning!

I'll gladly help you procrastinate! For the character ask, Ayda Aguefort, Pete the Plug, and First of her Name, Sovereign Ruler of Candia and the Sugarlands, Witch-Queen of the Dairy Sea, High Priestess of the Sweetening Path, Archmage of Lost Sucrosia, Enemy of the Faith, The Sundae Sorceress, Storm-Captain of the Frosted Fleet, Queen Saccharina of House Frostwhip.
oh gosh this got LONG kldsaljda ty for the ask friend! sorry for the weird formatting i had to copy it from the notes app because i didn’t trust tumblr not to randomly delete it while i was typing
Ayda
Why I like them- goodness gracious why do I love Ayda? Best best best girl. She wants friends desperately but she has a hard time but she doesn’t try to change herself to do it? And she is just,, so brilliant and Wonderfull and she makes me very emotional. Fun fact, there’s a video on YouTube that’s just all of her appearances, and I started watching that when I couldn’t get access to dropout because I was so intrigued about what I saw on Tumblr! And she’s like 60% of the reason I got dropout
* Why I don’t- BEST GIRL.
* Favorite episode (scene if movie)- I mean the figayda first kiss and everything that preceded it was GOLD. Also the scene where adaine asks if she wants to hold boggy. What an angel.
* Favorite season/movie- sophomore year obviously! Can’t wait for more content with her as time goes on!
* Favorite line- “NOOO IT’S TOO CUTE!” And “if i was you, i wouldn’t want to be anyone else” “I too am a low quality child”
* Favorite outfit- the sweater she’s wearing in the full version of my icon because its says “reading is lit” and I love the pun sm! you know one of the bad kids would get it for her! https://rabdoidal.tumblr.com/post/190876580075/baby-youre-hands-down-the-best-thing-about-me-and
* OTP- Fig!! They’re such a good balance for each other! Fig is always trying to be other people, but around Ayda she’s growing into herself more! And Ayda learning from fig too, getting out of her comfort zone and GAH I LOVE THEM. IN THE WORDS OF LOU WILSON I BLESS THIS UNION
* Brotp- Adaine! Gorgug! And Cheese of course!
* Head Canon- I have no idea how junior year is gonna go, but I can see her spending time at Aguefort trying to talk more with her dad and see her friends since she doesn’t really know anyone else in Elmville? And she will slowly and accidentally take over their school library and anyone taking wizard classes will totally come to her for advice! Let Ayda have all the friends okay.
* Unpopular opinion- I talked about this in a different ask but her cameo in pirol felt just a bit out of place? Like if I hadn’t seen fhsy it would’ve really thrown me off and it kinda messed with the standalone nature of the season. That being said I LOVED that scene!! i want more of her and cheese being friends!
* A wish- idc how unrealistic it may be, fig and ayda will be high school sweethearts dang it! I think they’ll have their struggles for sure, but that’s endgame baby!
* An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen- if brennan hurts her I WILL be meeting him in the denny’s parking lot, no mercy
* 5 words to best describe them- brilliant, radiant, outstanding, show-stopping, resplendent
* My nickname for them- best girl!!
Pete the Plug
Why I like them- my boy is really trying his best!! The voice of the dreams, who finds a home and people who love and respect and support him, who stares down the dream and asks to see its true form.
Why I don’t- I love him your honor!
Favorite episode (scene if movie)- yo I bingewatched this season so fast my memory is badddd so I’m not sure!
Favorite line: my memory is such garbage man!! Idk!! I just looked through his Tumblr tag and that one line in the coffee shop where he asks where the crying booth is is GOLD
Favorite outfit- cowboy hat KING
OTP- I am not immune to the Pete/ricky/ester/Sofia polycule,,
Brotp- Kingston!! they had a rough patch, but I love the way they grow to understand and care for each other! And also Nod ofc, their scenes were my favorite!
Head Canon: he pops up at the hospital to grab lunch with Kingston and the other nurses are just like “Kingston your boy is here” and no one corrects them
Unpopular opinion: I’m not sure tbh? I have trouble with these cause I’m not sure what the popular opinions are
A wish- someone get that boy a sweater. Its New York in December he’s gonna FREEZE he needs a COAT
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen- no more toxic relationships! Let him thrive!
5 words to best describe them- unpredictable, wild, wonderful, passionate, reckless
My nickname for them- not a nickname but occasionaly i will see fanart and just go KING in my head. love that vox fantasma
QUEEN SACCHARINA
* Why I like them: it’s illegal for me not to fall in love with Emily’s PCs. Her backstory absolutely wrecked me! She’s trying so hard, she was without a family for so long and she found a family and then she was finally reunited with her blood family and it was weird and complicated and FCK she’s so good
* Why I don’t- Emily axford does no wrong
* Favorite episode (scene if movie)- finale! Holy shit that finale! (Also for scene, that first round of combat where she thunder steps and saves Joren. Holy fcking moly.)
* Favorite line: god it hurt me DEEPLY, but I can’t stop thinking about “you can be my sister or my queen, but you can’t be both” “then I choose to be your queen”
Favorite outfit- anything as long as she has a CROWN dang it
OTP- a loving home where she can spread magic and have PEACE
Brotp- Theo!! Axmurph were killing me this season!
Head Canon- one of the ways she bonds with her family is taking them on rides on Cinnamon! That feeling of freedom, of magic; it helps them understand her better, and it shows that they trust her. The first time Ruby goes flying with her, she tells her to hang on so they can do something cool, and Ruby instinctually wraps her arms around Saccharina. It’s the first time they hug. They don’t mention it, but they both get a little misty eyed.
Unpopular opinion- I really wanted a scene where she asked about Jet. She’s spent so long wanting a family, just to find out once again the church had taken the chance from her. i have some,, personal feelings about what that would be like and I really wish that her feelings about that had been explored a little more
A wish: oh let her be happy PLEASE. Her family may have gotten off on the wrong foot, but those bonds WILL grow
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen- if we had gotten the bad ending of them turning on each other,, oh god
5 words to best describe them- fierce, magical, powerful, resilient, strong
My nickname for them- I just love the nickname Rina for her!!
