Album Review: In Flames - Foregone
With what can only be described as a varied discography under their belt, Swedish Melodic Death Metal pioneers In Flames have returned with their 14th studio album ‘Foregone‘ released via Nuclear Blast Records. The record begins with a solemn acoustic guitar and string instrument opening as The Beginning Of All Things That Will End builds an atmospheric and emotive introduction before charging…

Brynjard Tristan from Dimmu Borgir.
He was the bassist of the band between 1993-1996. He left after the album “Stormblåst.” He also used to be a writer for the Norwegian music magazine Mute.

Dismember - Like an Ever Flowing Stream
This album wasn’t at all what I was expecting! I really thought this would be a kinda standard old school death metal album with some fun riffs and cool moments, but ultimately something I’ll usually pass over to listen to my personal favs, but what I got was something different.
Yes, it’s definitely old school death metal in the vein of Autopsy and Morbid Angel but what really stands out to me with this record is the guitar solos and the vocals. Starting with the solos these things are Epic with a capital fucking E. A lot of death metal solos can fall into the “look how fast I can play” trap. Now that can be super impressive of course, but in general, I’d take a well constructed high intensity high melody solo over the guitar equivalent of button mashing any fucking day. And. Every. Fucking. Song. Has one of these amazing solos. Genuinely such a treat to listen to this guy shred.
The vocals also, to me, are way more clear and almost crust punk esc in their performance. You can really hear everything the guy is saying and the performance itself has a nice bit of melody to it. It’s not just a guy screaming. It’s super well integrated and well thought out.
On top of that, the drumming and bass playing also fuck and hold their own, and rhythm guitar does a great job at supporting the overall picture! Fucking pleasant ass surprise!

Album Review: Soilwork - Övergivenheten
Album Review: Soilwork – Övergivenheten
Swedish Melodic Death Metal veterans Soilwork have returned with their 12th studio album Övergivenheten; roughly translated as The Abandonment. There are not many bands currently in circulation who can maintain the level of consistency that Soilwork can. A solid pillar in the Swedish Melodic Death Metal scene, the band have gradually improved with each release since their formation in 1996 but…

Opeth
I think it's about time for us to share this photo again! This is a really old pic of OPETH from all the way back in 1990, with Dan Nillson, Amirion Evén, David Isberg and Mikael Bergström, this was just before Mikael Åkerfeldt joined the band... (many thanks to Da Ni for sharing this one with us all those years ago!)

Melodeath Supergroup BERZERKER LEGION Review 2023
The Swedish Melodeath Supergroup presents to be a new force to be reckoned with in 2023 with new hard hitting record “Chaos Will Reign”. This may be the heaviest album I’ve reviewed so far this year and vastly impressed me. I hadn’t listened to these guys but a couple times so I came in to this review pretty much blind. The lead songwriter sent comments and an introduction to the album that…
