I had a sweet Spudz MacKenzie sweatshirt that I wore to school and got sent to the principal's office to change.
I was in 3rd grade and thought Spudz was just a cool party dog. I didn't understand at the time that the faculty were violent transphobes.

DAY 4 - A Shift In Perspective
Our fourth day unfolded with a significant twist as we presented our Unreal Engine progress to the faculty. Their insightful feedback prompted us to reconsider our approach to the Peace and Justice-themed game.
Seeking Guidance As we showcased our Unreal Engine advancements to the faculty, their feedback challenged the conventional notions of war games and questioned why our exploration of peace and justice had to conform to stereotypical shooting game elements.
A New Direction Prompted by the faculty's perspective, we pivoted towards a new direction. The suggestion to utilize Twine software for a story/narrative-based game opened up avenues to explore the complexities of our chosen theme without resorting to traditional gameplay mechanics.
Text-Based Exploration: Learning Through Play To familiarize ourselves with the nuances of text-based games, we dived into the rich offerings on itch.io. Playing various text-based games not only provided inspiration but also helped us understand the mechanics of interactive narratives. This hands-on exploration set the stage for our transition into the realm of Twine and narrative game development.
Listed few of the games we tried our hands on.
A Day of Reflection: Shaping a New Narrative As we conclude Day 4, the realization that our game's potential extends beyond the confines of a shooting FPS experience has ignited a fresh wave of creativity. The journey ahead promises a narrative-rich exploration, leveraging the unique capabilities of Twine to weave a compelling story around the themes of peace and justice.

Hiding in plain sight
This is one I have been working on. It's loosely based on a certain couple we know.
^^^
January 31 2015
Rachel looked at Robert anxiously as they drove down the busy London parkway. “How much longer?” They had just come from the studio, and were heading for the secluded flat Michael found for the nights they spent together. Most nights they spent apart since their happy idyllic world shattered into a million pieces three years ago. It was awful but they'd persevered and stayed together despite the forces trying to tear them apart. By day they continued their charade. Go to the studio and rehearse. Film their scenes and keep up the pretence of “not together.” It was hell. It was killing her. She looked up at Robert. Her bodyguard. Friend. Pretend fiance. Hard to have a fiance when she was married Rachel thought. “How much longer?” she asked again.
Robert checked his watch while his partner David drove. He reached over and squeezed Rachel's hand. This lady was so strong, he thought. Such a talent too. “About ten minutes, Rach.” He assured her. “Don't worry. He'll be there. Always is.”
Rachel nodded. Yes, Michael would never let her down. In spite of everything he always came through for her and had since the first time they'd met. She sighed. He loves me she thought, and I him. Always had. They'd been through so much. So much love and pain. Fear and heartbreak. She'd do it all again if given the chance. One thing was certain she would never leave him no matter the cost or what anyone tried to do to her. Never. She sat up when she felt the limo jerk. They'd stopped.
Getting out of the car she followed David while Robert walked a few steps behind her. As experienced ex law enforcement they were cautious and careful, ensuring her safety and yet careful not to raise attention. David turned around and led her to the door, punching in the security code. He smiled. Both men were attractive, tall with fair hair and brown eyes. “All clear Ms. Watson. We'll see you in two days unless we hear from Mr. Nelson.” He told her.
Rachel smiled at her bodyguards. They'd been hired four years ago when she and Michael became concerned that their employer would object to their marriage. Sure enough, Spudz Inc., the Production company behind The Travellers, a cable tv adaptation of the Western series by Jane London, had threatened them with lawsuits if they went public with their relationship.
Rachel nodded. “Yes. Enjoy your weekend guys. And thanks. As always.” She replied, watching them head back to the limo. She shook her head. Hard to believe those guys were brothers because they were so different. Eager to find Michael, she opened the door to their flat. Closing the door, she placed her coat and hand bag neatly in the closet. She shrieked as she felt his strong arms come around her, pulling her firmly against him. She turned in his arms and reached up and kissed him. Pulling back, she smiled at him. Almost as tall as her husband, she was practically face to face. “Hmmm. That's nice.” She said, kissing him again. “I missed you while filming today.” Rachel Watson and her husband of four years both played the leads in an episodic tv drama, The Travellers. But right now he was shooting a rare episode without her. She'd missed him.
Michael Nelson lifted her up high in his arms and sat down in the big arm chair, settling her on his lap. He bent and kissed her deeply, his tongue mingling with hers. He bent and bit her lip playfully. “Now that's better. And I missed you too.” Lowering his head, he rested his forehead against hers. He groaned. “God Rach. I hate this pretence. Pretending I was dating Janet. Hinting I used to like men. Watching you around your fiance.”
Putting her arms around his neck, Rachel pulled him down for another kiss. She watched the emotion on his face as he lifted his head. Tears in her eyes she looked up at him and placed her hand lovingly against his cheek. He was so gorgeous. All that thick black hair and the gray eyes. She'd been so lost when their bosses had tried to part them. Determined, they had found a way to defy them. “I know. Not easy having security guards with you all the time either. Or a pretend fiance. Especially when I have a husband.” She said, smiling.
Michael beamed and bent down and kissed her again.  She was so pretty he thought especially when she smiled. Always so genuine. Never fake. She loved the fans. They loved her. Tall with her strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. Like him she was from London but had lived in Derbyshire most of her life. Prior to acting she'd been a talented figure skater but gave it up to study acting. She was a great actress he thought. She'd already won an Acta award for best actress. Nice achievement for a woman of thirty four. Smiling he bent and kissed her again. “It's been rough. Trying to pretend that I don't love you, that's been tough Rach.”
She nodded. “Yes. You remember when we met. At my screen test to play Johanna on The Travellers. Your wife. You read with me. I was so nervous. You got me through it. Then before I knew it I was crazy about you. Then they tried to destroy us,” she faltered, her eyes tearing up. “All we wanted was to be together --"
Michael pulled her closer, snuggling her against him. He'd wanted to do this since the first moment he'd laid eyes on Rachel Watson. It had been mutual. She'd felt the same. Bam! Cupid between the eyes. Then their bosses tried to destroy them. But they'd found a way to stay a couple in spite of Spudz Inc. “I know, love. I know. Don't worry. It's all coming to a head. Season is almost done. Once it is, you and Robert and David and I will play our cards. They will get theirs. And we will be out of the ties that hold us to them.” He assured her.
She nodded. “Yes. Over five years ago now. Remind me again of how you were hired. You met with the author of the series had you not?”
Michael smiled at the memory. “Yes. Spudz Inc. had just bought the option to adapt her books to film and they'd decided on cable tv as the venue.”
Rach smiled seductively. “Because of the steamy love scenes,” she said.
Michael grinned and nodded. “Yes. I always find those tough. Because they are so personal and intimate. With a co-star I am crazy over.”
She nodded. “Yes. It's hard to share that with the world. I want you to myself.” She smirked. “Though you must know I'd never do them to that intensity with anyone but you.” She looked at the gentle swell of her growing belly. “Looks like you've had me a few times already Michael Nelson.”
He reached out and warmly fondled their unborn child. A lone tear trickled down. He nodded. “Yes. I know. Me as well. We are going to bring them down Rach. They're going down.” He beamed. “As for this little one here, ya I got you good.” He teased. “I can't wait.” He said, patting her swollen belly fondly.
Rachel felt her own tears welling up in her eyes as she placed her hand lovingly on top of his as he fondled their unborn child. They had told Spudz Inc that Robert was the baby's father which was why they were engaged. They had created the engagement partly because of the baby and partly because it allowed Robert to be closer to things. In the four years he'd pretended to be her boyfriend both he and his brother had accumulated a great deal of evidence and eye witness accounts of actors bad experiences with Spudz Inc and its management. Once she and Michael could leave the show, they would initiate lawsuits against her former employers. But they had to be free of their contracts first. They would go public and bring them down.
Snuggling into the warmth of her husband's arms, she murmured, “Tell me.”
Michael nodded, wrapping his arms around her and kissing her hair. “Yes. It was January 2010. Jane London had just signed for Spudz Inc to adapt her books. Their cable channel Dazzle would air the show once the first season was produced. I met them at the Spudz Inc studios in Dublin. It was like it was yesterday.”
January 29 2010
Michael stood at the window looking out over the busy streets of Dublin. He could hardly believe it. He was here to read for The Travellers. A cable tv adaptation of the Western series by Canadian author Jane London. Her books were always set against the Rocky Mountains of Western Canada. He would be reading for Cole Fuller the male hero in her books. Cole had been a local beef cattle farmer but now served as the district marshal. His wife Johanna helped him with the farm but tended to butt into his travels in the territory as marshal. She considered herself an amateur sleuth and liked to help much to Cole's chagrin.
As a former tennis player and almost 6' 3" Michael was certainly physically suited for the part.
Looking down at the script in his hand, he turned and walked into the studio set to read his lines.
February 4 2010
Jane London sat at the boardroom table of Spudz Inc ‘s audio video room with Executive Producer Miles Bodkin. They had just finished viewing the screen test for Michael Nelson. She looked at Miles. “Well, what do you think?” she asked. At fifty with dark hair and eyes like chocolate she was as spry as any divorced female could be. After five husbands, she'd decided to stay single. But it was a gold mine of experience for writing. Some of them were hot and Jane made good use of that in the bedroom. The money from the books and her husbands wasn't bad either. And now Spudz wanted to adapt her books for the little screen.
Miles looked again at the portfolio, pouring over the biography and photos Michael had brought with him. “Not totally a match but he sure physically matches your leading man. Former tennis player but an injury cut his career short. Studied drama in University as a minor and started doing small roles in live theater. Seems to project good emotion on screen tbough. Get the right female lead with him and they will steam up your tv screen. He's the best we've seen.” Miles replied.
Jane nodded. “I agree. Let's get him hired if we can.” Jane was enjoying her role in all of this. Not only was she hired as a consultant she also had some creative control. She was grateful for that because usually this wasn't the norm.
Miles nodded. “Consider it done. Now, we have most of our major characters cast. But we still need a Johanna.”
Jane nodded. She pulled out a portfolio her literary agent found for her. “I know you have been considering Kathy Gilmer but I think I have a better choice. She was a figure skating star turned actress just last year. She went to drama school while in University at night. She is, in a word, stunning. She had a small role in a motion picture film for Gwen Russo. I saw the film. She was good.”
Miles began looking over her bio and pics. Rachel Watson. Yes. Jane London was right. Stunning indeed. Woman was gorgeous. “Do we have a screen test?”
Jane shook her head  “No. The film is still in production. Saw the film because of a friend. She is good and looks good on camera. That strawberry blonde hair shines through on camera. And the emotion in her eyes. Outstanding.”
Miles nodded. “See if you can get her here to screen test with Michael. That should help us decide.”
January 31 2015
Michael looked down at the woman in his arms. Poor baby he thought. She's fallen asleep. He still wondered at times how he'd ever come to deserve her. He shuddered at the thought of Miles’s reaction when he'd discovered that his stars had become romantically attached. To the best of his knowledge he hadn't known that they had eloped and he hoped to high heaven they still didn't. But they'd threatened them with lawsuits unless they stopped seeing each other while working on the show. Michael at first had been heartbroken as had Rach. But grudgingly agreed to cease romantic involvement while working The Travellers.
By the time they'd left the meeting he was both shaken up but also mad as hell. Rach for her part seemed at first heartbroken and then numb and terrified. But she also had a will of iron and they'd hatched their plan the year prior just because they'd been worried about their reaction then. And wisely so as it turned out. They'd already set their plan in motion at that time. They would make it seem like they'd lost interest and were moving on to other love interests. He had a friend who'd had several bad experiences with men. Because of that Janet agreed to pretend to be dating him when needed. They also setup a fake messageboard suggesting he was gay. He had an old college beau who went around a few places with him and made it look like they were a couple. He laughed. Funny how you could use the web to start a rumour about yourself. Outshipping the shippers on that one. They would of course tell anybody who asked Rachel had just been helping him by playing the girlfriend but now that she had a steady beau she didn't want to do that anymore. Enter Janet at this moment as his pretend girlfriend.
For Rach they hired two men with a law enforcement background to accompany and protect Rach. She was scared and Michael was taking no chances. One of the brothers would pretend to be an old boyfriend that had come back and Rach had rekindled things with him. They also started their own investigation of Spudz Inc trying to get as much information about their strong arm tactics in bullying their actors.
As he carefully laid Rach down in their bed, he smiled. It had been rough but they had stayed together even if it was just moments at a time. The rest of the time was a game of “not together” that they hated. The moments like this made it all bearable. He remembered the day that he met Rachel. He remembered too how she had told him later about her own experiences that same day.
February 25 2010
Rachel Watson looked at her watch in exasperation as she sat in the cab in the middle of a busy Dublin street. They were caught in traffic. There'd been an accident and now it was holding them up and making her late. She'd been ecstatic when her agent called and told her the Executive Producer for The Travellers had sent her a message asking if she had an audition tape of Rachel that she could send him. It turned out that Margaret had a small clip of her work on the new Gwen Russo film and had sent him that.  Based on that they had asked for this meeting. Asked that she read with the actor hired to play Cole Fuller. She'd seen pictures of Michael Nelson from his tennis days. He was gorgeous but also big and strong physically. He'd be the perfect person to play Cole and now they wanted her to read with him. And she was running late. Drat!
Ten minutes later she was standing in an executive boardroom pacing nervously. Miles Bodkin’s personal assistant had brought her to this room to wait for Miles. She would be meeting Michael Nelson and Jane London the series author as well. She was shaking with nervousness but defiant and proud at the same time. She could do this. After working with Gwen Russo she could do anything. After the different pace of travel while working in the figure skating world she could do anything.
Miles Bodkin came into the room at that moment with Jane London and Michael Nelson just behind him. Her breath caught at the sight of Michael. If anything he was better looking in person than in any of the pics or live tennis matches she'd seen. He had to be at least 6'3". As a woman she knew she was tall at just around 5'9" but he towered over her. Dark black hair in a longish cut. Beard neatly trimmed. In a word he was gorgeous. She felt her girl parts tingle. Stop that she scolded herself. You're here for a part, not a man! After several failed attempts at relationships she'd given up men.
Miles came over then and held out his hand. She took it in hers grasping his in a handshake. His grip was firm and businesslike. “Good morning Ms Watson, I am Miles Bodkin, Executive Producer for The Travellers for Spudz Inc. Let me introduce Jane London the series author.” Rachel shook the hand Jane offered her. Miles looked over to Michael. “And this is Michael Nelson who will play Cole.”
Michael reached out his hand to Rachel Watson in a warm handshake. He'd seen photos of Rachel from her figure skating days but man they just didn’t do her justice. She is simply stunning he thought, a total knockout. He was tall but she came up to over his shoulder. Suddenly he had visions of those long legs wrapping themselves around … no! Stop that he told himself. You're here for business and a job and certainly not women. But still, if given the moment—
Miles took that moment to interrupt. “Please everyone. Sit.” He said, handing everyone a folder. “I want first everyone to read over the scene. Then we will get Michael to read with you Rachel. He will read Cole while you read the part of Johanna.” Miles said as they sat down around the boardroom table. He took a sip of water. “I will explain the scene a little first if I may. This is from the pilot episode where Cole is first appointed district marshal. But in this scene you are both at your ranch in Alberta. It is late evening and a first year calf has wondered away from its mother and is lost. In the middle of a thunder and rainstorm Johanna goes off on her own to find him. She finds the calf under a tree but her husband catches up to her and is furious at her for being so reckless. Just read it through and then we'll get you to do it on camera with Michael, Rachel.”
Rachel nodded and began reading the pages. She was nervous but confident. She could do this.
Michael Nelson looked over at her and briefly put his hand on hers. He lifted his hand and smiled. “Don't worry Ms Watson. I saw the film clip your agent sent over. You got this. Just work with me as you go. You got this.” He said warmly. “You got this.”
She nodded and reread the pages a second time.
Fade In
Ross, the ranch foreman enters the ranch kitchen. Tells Johanna about getting the cattle sheltered during the rainstorm.
Johanna looks at Ross their foreman in exasperation.
Johanna:
“It is raining hard and the thunder and lightning is heavy now. Are all our cattle accounted for?”
Ross turns. Shakes his head.
Ross:
“All but one calf ma'am. He's wondered away from his mother.”
Johanna:
“And have you found him?”.
Ross:
“Er, no ma'am.”
Johanna looks furious.
 Johanna:
“Why not?”
Stamps foot in frustration.
Ross looks exasperated.
Ross:
“The weather… too fierce ma'am…”
Johanna interrupts and heads for the door.
Johanna:
“Well if you won't find him I bloody well will!”
Heads out into the storm, defiant ignoring the rain and wind.
Sometime later Cole discovers where his wife has gone. Furiously chases after her. Finds her with a small calf in an open field under a tree. Gets out of the truck and finds her there cold and soaked to the skin.
Cole:
“Just what the hell were you doing woman? Coming out here without a thought of your own safety or our unborn child? God Johanna Louise Fuller how can you be that reckless or stupid?”
Johanna stares down her husband in defiance.
Johanna:
“Saving this poor baby from the storm. And don't you call me reckless you stubborn man. Accepting the marshal job without a care for me or this farm or--"
Cole looks defiant and determined.  Cole:
“Awww Johanna you know I have wanted this law enforcement thing for a long time. We can talk it over but right now we need to get you and that calf outta here.”
Cole picks up the calf. Takes Johanna by the arm and hauls her to the truck.
Inside the cab Johanna glares at her husband.
 Johanna:
“I swear Cole Fuller you are the most exasperating man … “ Her face softens to the camera. She smiles … “If I didn't love you so much…”
Cole grins devilishly and drives them back to the ranch.
Fade to black.
March 23 2010
Jane London looked over at Miles Bodkin. They had just finished viewing the screen test for Rachel Watson. “Well, what do you think?”
“I think we better get that young woman under contract. She was amazing. Just transformed into Johanna. And the chemistry between them. Amazing. They sizzled.” Miles replied.
Jane nodded  “Yes, they did. Amazing like you said.”
January 31 2015
Three weeks later the production of the pilot episode began. The Travellers was well on its way to reality. And so was his relationship with Rachel he realized as he looked down at his still sleeping wife. Although he didn't realize it at the time. They had started out friendly but businesslike or at least they'd tried. But Rach he soon found out was a giggler and he loved to set her going. He could say anything or do anything and she'd start.
He remembered the first day they'd spent reading through scripts. They would study their lines. Then start the slow tedious process of reading them aloud one against the other. Table read-throughs were always awkward but a necessary part of movies and tv productions.
Michael smiled at Rachel as she came to the table and sat down beside him. Dressed casually in brown slacks and a light cardigan she looked very young and wholesome and fresh. He was still stunned by his reaction to this woman. “Good morning. Ready to get a start on things?” he asked pointing to the scripts on the table.
She yawned as she sat down, taking a sip of her coffee. “Yes, but I will have to get used to these early mornings again. It's been awhile.”
They spent several days just reading through the screenplay and generally getting used to the cast. Michael found he was enjoying his job more and more each day. Hours were long but it was worth it. He liked getting to know their cast. He liked being around Rachel. He liked her warm spirit and infectious laugh. He found her to be a funny and intelligent woman. She treated everyone the same including their crew. There was no pretence to her.
February 1 2015
Rachel came awake slowly and looked over at her still sleeping husband. He always looked so innocent somehow when he slept. She got up slowly, the baby she carried making her movements more awkward. She wasn't due until September but she was starting to feel the child inside her. Just small tiny flutters, but it was there. Being pregnant had sure changed her physically. She tired more easily and found herself to be more emotional. This current charade they were playing hadn't helped either. She knew both she and Michael were stressed. And it showed. She liked Robert and David but she hated having to have them with her all the time. She knew she needed them to ensure her safety but it wasn't easy.  Things were building though she knew. Soon the charade would end. She wondered what the fans reaction would be once they learned the truth. That Rachel Watson and Michael Nelson were in fact a couple and were married. The shippers will love this she thought, saying to everyone, “see I told you so,”. She hoped the world would be as forgiving. Coming back to the bed, she crawled beneath the blankets and cuddled against her husband.
Michael stirred and yawning rolled over to pull Rachel into his arms, kissing her awake. He groaned when he felt her hand go lower grasping him in a firm grip. He smiled and settled her on top of him. He reached down a hand and began caressing her and finding her moist and wet and ready helped her take him inside her. Placing his hands on either side of her hips they found their own rhythm together moving as one, moaning and panting as the pressure built as they came together crying out in ecstasy.
Rachel, sighing with contentment eased herself off of her husband and settled herself contentedly against him. “Hmmm not exactly a Cole and Johanna moment, but it'll do.” She murmured softly.
Michael reached over and warmly caressed her naked belly. “Yes, well there is someone between us here. Makes me wary sometimes of going full out with you. Always so afraid of hurting the baby.” He replied. He felt his eyes fill. “God Rach… I love you so much. If anything were to happen to you or the baby because of me or us or that stupid production company ---”
Rach placed her hand lovingly on his mouth to silence him. She shook her head and softly kissed him on the lips. “Nothing will happen. We've kept it together this long. It's ok. We're ok. We'll be ok. They are going down. It will happen.” Rachel said fiercely. The production company  had been furious when they discovered that their stars were romantically involved and had threatened them with lawsuits and worse. Since then they'd been playing the game of not together to thwart them though they'd set up the scheme the year before. The last ploy had been her recent engagement to Robert. Fake of course. Hard to be engaged when you're already married. Still it had been frightening at the time.
Michael nodded. “Yes. I know. Still it's hard sometimes. Especially when the shippers try so hard to prove their theories that we are together. They, in their love for us could inadvertently bring it all down and almost have at times.”
“True. Many of them aren't stupid and can see the clues sometimes when we leave them. But we have to keep it going and keep the image of not being together. Unfortunately the shippers are caught in the crossfire of that.” Rachel replied. “It will anger them but it's how it has to be.”
“True. Though they're the ones buying the merchandise that helps support the show. Which if the show declines it may help us bring this to an end sooner. But if we can get to August …”
Rachel smiled. “I like how you think Michael Nelson. You're thinking about the exit clause in those contracts. Smart.”
He nodded. “Exactly. There is light at the end of this tunnel babe. It's just baby here forced us into other maneuvers right now. Can't be telling them you're already married to me and having my baby love.” He said.
Rach sighed. “No true. Enter Robert longtime boyfriend turned fiance.” She shook her head. “Still, I hate this kind of deception. I will be so glad when it ends. I loved you almost from the first. I want the world to know that.”
Michael pulled her close and kissed his wife. “Me too. Remember when we first together how we fought things but just couldn't help but tease and tantalize each other. Then the production company deliberately sent us on interviews and several  photoshoots. We didn't stand a chance.” Michael smiled. It was like it was yesterday.
April 10 2010
Miles Bodkin looked over at his two co-stars. They had finished the first episode two weeks ago and started doing some of the production aspects on the pilot. It very raw and primitive yet but it looked good. He thought the on screen chemistry looked good between them. They were now filming the second episode. Most of it like the first had been in the studio here in Dublin but some of it was shot on location in an area just outside of the city. It was rural enough to look like parts of Alberta where Jane London's books were set. He took the portfolio out of his bag and gave a copy to each of his co-stars Rachel and Michael. “As you will see those are a list of publicity appearances we'd like you to do to help promote the show. Two are interviews with Kelly Marcus of Entertainment TV and the other three are photoshoots with Benito Alvarez for World Magazine. They will take place over the next two weeks while we finish production on the first episode. We intend to run it first as the pilot and then production will move from there with the network based on that. Dazzle is reluctant to move forward without testing the reaction of their viewers first. We feel confident in the show, but they are being cautious.” Miles told them.
Michael looked at Rachel then poured over the list of dates. All in the next two weeks. All in Toronto ON Canada. “These are in Canada.”
Rachel nodded her agreement and then looked at Miles. “Why Canada?” she asked.
“Because Dazzle also has a sister channel Nightview in Canada and because this is a Canadian writer they want to capitalize on those things to promote the show to the Canadian audience.” Miles replied.
He handed them each a set of ticket billfolds. “These contain your tickets and details of your itinerary including your hotel reservations in downtown Toronto. Once there our pr representative will help you coordinate the interview and the photoshoots. Normally we'd be there to represent our Production staff but in this instance we want it very low key with just Cole and Johanna there. Your flight to London leaves in two hours. You will stay in a hotel there and fly out in the morning.”
Two hours later Rachel was sitting in a her hotel suite in London. Oddly enough it adjoined to the suite next door with a connecting door in between. They'd put Michael in that one. She wondered if that was on purpose. They already shared a trailer on the studio lot and on location as well. It was like they were subtly promoting them as a couple.  She laughed. If only they knew she thought. They'd been giggling and half flirting since they met. Now maybe there was an opportunity to act on those feelings. She was still taken aback at how intense her emotions were concerning Michael. They still hadn't done anything… just some light teasing and tantalizing. She smiled when she turned her head and suddenly there he was in the connecting doorway.
He came over and sat down on the bed opposite her. “So, what do you make of all this?” he asked.
“Looks like they are going all out to sell the show, particularly Johanna and Cole. They want us to play it up a little and make it seem that we are a couple.” Rachel replied. “I am afraid I won't have to do much pretending.” She confessed.
Michael came over then and sitting beside her, reached out and took her hand. He squeezed it gently. “Me either Rach.” Lord, it was all he could do to keep from kissing her. In all his experience with women he'd never wanted one as much as he wanted Rachel Watson. Still, this was not the moment. “It's getting on toward evening. Care to dine with me downstairs in the dining room? I am sure that will get things rolling with people talking.” He added grinning devilishly.
She smiled and squeezed his hand in return. “Yes. Yes, I'd like that.” She replied. Oh Lord, she sighed. I have it bad for my co-star she mused as she followed him into the dining room and allowed him to seat her at their  table.
Michael looked at Rachel as they rode in the elevator back up their suite. He shook his head as he gazed at the gorgeous woman who was Rachel Watson. Her strawberry blonde hair was up in an elegant style that emphasized the beautiful features of her face. Her eyes matched the light steel blue of her dress. God he wanted her. He wanted to reach out and --- no!, he told himself firmly. She is your co-star and hopefully your friend not your lover! He felt relief when the elevator stopped on their floor. Funny, but theirs were the only two suites on this floor and they connected with the door in between. He wondered if that was on purpose to imply that-- you'd never know in the entertainment industry; still he wondered. He led her over to her door and waited while she unlocked the door with the key code.
Rachel took a deep breath as she stood in the doorway of her suite looking up at him. God, she thought, he's just so good looking with the dark pants and matching sports coat. Even without a tie, she wanted to reach out and kiss him. On set they'd flirted and smiled and giggled at each other but beyond a light touch on the hand hadn't done anything else. Oh heavens but she wanted him to hold her and kiss her. For the first time in a long time she wanted to go to bed with a man.
“Rachel – I,” he began, he remembered what it felt like to kiss her and hold her as Johanna and now the tension was building. Oh what the heck he thought, and quickly pushed her inside the door, closing it and pulled her against him. He bent his head and kissed her quickly, not giving her the chance to respond before he pulled back. “Sorry, Rach. I know I shouldn't have done that but I have wanted to since I first saw you.  And with all the scenes with you as Johanna, I,” he began, “I'm sorry.” He said softly, resting his forehead against hers. “I'm sorry.”
Rachel smiled and shook her head. She placed her hand gently on his cheek. “No. It's all right. Really. Oh God Michael but I have wanted this too. Maybe it's wrong, but I want you to hold me. I want you to kiss me.” She replied. She blushed. “Maybe it's too soon.”
Michael bent his head and touched his lips to hers gently and then pulled back again to gaze at her. “Is it Rach? Is it?” he asked. “Because God I want you. I want to hold you amd kiss you and oh so much more. But, it's your call. I would never hurt you Rachel. Do you believe in love at first sight?” Michael asked her softly. If she said no to all of this, he would just kill himself right now. He was aching with the intense need and desire he felt for her. He was barely in control.
Rachel nodded and pulled his head down for another kiss. “I really didn't,” she began, hesitating slightly. “At least, before now.” She admitted. “I am not sure if what I am feeling is love. I know I think about you all of the time. And when we are not on set and together I find myself wishing I was with you. Is that love? I am not sure, but that's how I feel. I've felt like this since I met you. It … it frightens me a little.” She reached up and laid her hand against his cheek. Since the show began filming he'd shaved off the beard but she could feel a day's growth on his cheek. She liked the sensation against her skin when he'd kissed her just now.
Michael pulled her closer to him, letting her feel just how much he wanted her. “I feel the same Rach. If that's not love then I don't know what is. I want to be with you all the time even it's just to laugh with you or simply hold your hand. I want the other things too of course.” He said. “But I am not going to force you. That's up to you. But I can't continue to hold you and kiss you like this and not … Rachel. I only have so much control.” He admitted. It was taking every bit of his self-control not to just throw her on the bed and make love to her. He was hanging on by a thread.
She nodded. She sighed and stepped from him. She took his hand and led him over to the bed. She took a deep breath. This was a huge step for her. She knew that. She'd always had poor experiences with men. But somehow this felt right and she was going to take the chance. Spudz Inc and Dazzle had arranged for the interviews and photoshoots that put them together like this. On her own she doubted she would have acted so quickly but since the moment was here, she was going to take the chance. Smiling at him, she murmured, “make love to me Michael. Undress me. Kiss me.” She told him.
He smiled and slid a hand behind her back and slid the zipper of her dress slowly down. He reached up and slid the straps from her shoulders leaving her in just a pale blue bikini thong, garter belt and silk stockings. She wore no bra. Her breasts were full and high and pert. He reached out a hand and lightly fondled one with his fingers. He looked down at her and smiled. “You are so beautiful Rach. So utterly beautiful. I can't look at you and not want to kiss you or hold you. And oh so much more.” He breathed in between placing light kisses along her throat and upper chest. “I just can't. I ache with it Rachel.”
She nodded and reached up to undo the buttons of his shirt, having already relieved him of his jacket a moment ago. “I feel the same.” She admitted. “Scares the you know what out of me, but yes I feel it too.” She replied, deftly removing his shirt. She pressed herself against him, enjoying the feel of his skin against hers. She pulled back and putting her arms round his neck reached up and kissed him her tongue engaging eagerly with his. She felt the tightening and the burning ache between her thighs. This was so like what she'd felt during a love scene as Johanna, but, oh so much more.
Michael groaned as Rachel continued to kiss him passionately his tongue mingling and fiercely dancing with hers. Pulling back, he reached out and quickly removed her panties and stockings. He drew in his breath at the sight. He shivered with desire at the sight of the red patch of curls between her legs. If anything they were redder than the strawberry blonde curls on her head. She'd always had the patch on and until now he hadn't seen.
Rachel felt suddenly nervous and shy as she watched Michael stare at her naked body so intently. Maybe this was a mistake after all …
Michael saw her nervous reaction and drew her against him again, letting her feel him and just how badly he wanted her. “No, baby. Don't be nervous or shy. You are gorgeous. Perfect. Every single part of you.” He assured her. He bent his head and softly kissed her mouth, her throat and her breast. “I love you. I know it's crazy and probably too soon. I've known you for about six weeks but I love you Rach. I absolutely ache with it body and soul.”
She put out a hand then as she drew back from him. She undid the fastening on his dress pants and drew them down his legs, leaving him to step out of them. Looking at him she saw how very much he did want her. His erection stood tall and proud seemingly staring straight at her.
He grinned wickedly seeing her cheeks redden from the sight. “Yup. He knows what he wants. He wants you. Very badly.”
“I can see that. I want him too. And you, Michael.” She confessed. Oh heavens I love him. I love him. “I love you too.” She pulled him down onto the bed with her beneath him. “I want you, Michael. Please. I need you. Now. I uhhh don't think I can wait,” she muttered, her voice  ragged and husky from desire. It had a been a long time for her and it was as if the dam had burst. She was desperate to have him inside her.
Not wasting another moment, Michael buried himself deep inside revelling in the hot moist feel of her body. Like Rachel he was frenzied with need. He began a steady fast rhythm holding his weight from her with his elbows. He nearly exploded when she wrapped her legs around him and met him thrust after heated thrust. He cried out as he felt her muscles tighten around him, squeezing him as she climaxed beneath him. Unable to hold back any longer his own pleasure overtook him as he emptied himself inside of her.
Rachel felt relaxed, her body languid and limp as Michael moved off of her. She settled herself contentedly beside him and stretched her body, enjoying the feel of post coital bliss.
He smiled and bent down and kissed her gently. He reached out a hand to warmly cup the soft weight of her full breast. “Mhmmm. That felt good Rach. I haven't been with a woman in a long time. I wanted you to know that. Always very careful about my partners. I am safe Rach. I wanted you to know that.” He told her.
She nodded. “Thank you. And yes, I am clean too. Haven't been with anyone in a long time either. But,” she began, she hated having to ask him, but she'd heard rumours …
“You can ask me anything Rach.” He said. “Anything.” He assured her.
“Yes. It's just, during your tennis player years there were rumours…” she continued, still hesitating. She hated asking this. But she had to know.
Michael took a deep breath and asked, “you mean do I like men? Am I gay?” He placed his hand her arm and squeezed it gently. He sighed. He had dreaded the thought of talking about this, but they had to address this.
She swallowed deeply and nodded. “Yes.”
“When I was in University for a time I experimented with that yes. I meant was young and foolish. And impetuous and did some things I deeply regret and that was one of them. It was one night with one boy. I've never done anything like that again. I swear you have my word on that one Rach. Just the one time. I like women. And now, only you. I only want you.” He pulled her close again and started to kiss her throat, her upper chest, the curve of her breast. He looked up at her then and stared into her eyes. “Only you Rach. I love you.” He lowered his hand and began caressing and fondling her between her thighs. He smiled when he found her moist and wet and needy for him.
She moaned her pleasure as she felt him caress her there with his mouth on her breast at the same moment. “Yes. Michael, yes. I believe you. I love you. Oh, God don't stop,” she groaned as she felt his tongue on her adding to the heated sensation of his fingers. She started to squirm and buck her hips back and forth as the sensuous torture between her legs continued.
Michael grinned and continued to move two fingers inside Rachel at a steady pace while licking and sucking on that little nub between her legs. He would deliberately speed up until he felt her almost reach her peak and then he would slow down just to tease and build her need for release even more.
Rachel twisted and turned and moaned in half ecstasy and frustration as Michael continued his relentless assault between her nether regions. “Oh please, Michael. Please.” She begged. She pleaded. She wheedled. The tension built. The pounding built. Until finally she felt him above her again, entering her body as he did so. Rachel screamed her pleasure at that first deep thrust, her body convulsing in ecstasy as he continued to pump his hips against the cradle of hers. To her surprise and shock she felt herself coming again as he drove himself into her at a furious pace. She cried out her release at the same moment he'd found his, crying out her name and collapsing against her.
Michael rolled off of from her and pulled her against his body spoon fashion. He reached down and drew the covers over them both. Putting an arm around her, he gently cupped a warm breast. “It's late, Rach. We have a flight in the morning. Try to sleep.” He murmured softly.
Rachel nodded, feeling boneless and relaxed in his arms. “Yes. This is new. I hardly ever sleep with anyone.”
Michael pulled her closer. “Me either. Always a first time Rach. Get some sleep.” He growled.
Michael looked down at the sleeping woman in his arms. She is so exquisite and warm and friendly. And so responsive to him. Don't mess this up, Michael Nelson he told himself. Don't. Just don't. She is everything. Yawning, he gave in to the fatigue he felt and nodded off himself.

Rachel woke up in a panic, her body drenched in sweat. She extricated herself carefully from the heat of Michael's naked body and quickly got out of the bed. Careful not to wake him, she hastily grabbed her clothing and passed through the connecting door to her own suite. Typical of Miles to arrange this she mused. Trying to throw us together to promote your show, Miles? Rachel quickly shut the door and locked it from her side. She bolted the night chain. She sat down on her own bed, naked.  Her body still burned from Michael's touch. Shivering from the cool of the air unit, she wrapped the bed throw around her nude form. “Oh my God.” She muttered to herself. “What have I done? I can't do this. Not now. Not after such a bad experience from Jeff. I can't. I just can’t.” She loved Michael. She did. Had lusted after him for years. But not now. “I am just not ready.” She thought. Tired and bone weary still, she lay down against the pillows and pulled the covers around her. Longing for the feel of Michael's strong arms around her, she burst into tears.
***
Michael woke to the sound of the blaring alarm. “Oh,God,” he groaned. He reached over automatically for Rachel. “Rach, time to get up. Gotta shower and catch that flight--" he startled, realizing the other side of the bed was empty. “What the?” he mumbled. “Rach? Rach?” he muttered. He got up and checked the bathroom and found it empty. Thinking she'd gone to her suite to shower and change, he went to the door. “Got shy huh Rach?” he teased, trying the door. He was shocked to find it locked. He tried again. No answer. He signed and leaned against it in despair. She’d pulled into her shell again. He’d felt it sometimes when they were rehearsing the pilot episode. He could tell she felt as he did but at the same time he sensed her fear like she was afraid of something. Like she was afraid of the growing feelings between them. “Aww Rach, you can trust me. I won’t let you down. I love you.” Sighing, he headed for his own shower. They still had to catch that flight.

May 31 2010
Rachel Watson stared at the new script that lay on the table. They were back on location at the Spudz studio, just outside of Dublin. The network was moving forward with the series and they were just beginning the read through for Episode Two and Five. They sometimes would shoot out of order, depending on the content and background of the scenes. She sighed. Michael Nelson was sitting beside her to read for Cole, her on screen husband. She was aware of him still, but she’d been avoiding him. She only talked to him when necessary. She did her job, on camera whether on set or in tv interviews. She’d cut him off emotionally and avoided him otherwise. She couldn’t deal with how he made her feel right now. She just couldn’t. Sighing, she went back to reading her script.
Michael Nelson was near ready to blow from the frustration. Rachel had cut herself off from him and was avoiding him at every chance she had. During the Canadian interviews she remained professional and courteous while on camera during interviews or on photo shoots. But, the rest of the time, she remained cool and aloof to him. Her behavior had continued when they started to do read throughs for the new episodes. He’d tried and tried. She wouldn’t talk to him no matter how hard he tried. He went back to his script and swore under his breath. She had to be the most infuriating woman he’d ever met.
June 10 2010
Michael sat with his friends and colleagues at a bar in Dublin. He looked over at Rachel, who sat with some of the female cast. Cast and crew had come here tonight to celebrate the successful completion of the second episode. He’d sat down with some of his male cast members, but she’d come with the women. She’d been friendly with them, and with the other male cast members and the production staff. But, she’d been avoiding him. All night. She wasn’t talking to him. He ssighed. They’d shot their scenes together and read their lines successfully. There’d been a love scene. They’d got through it smoothly, without a problem. But she wasn’t talking with him otherwise. He’d had it. Enough was enough. He got up and moved over to her.
Rachel sat with her female cast members and production crew. She sipped her beer and laughed happily with Janet Laslow, the young woman who was cast to play her younger sister. They’d finished Episode 2 and the cast and crew came out to The Rochelle Bar to celebrate their success. During all this time, she’d successfully avoided Michael. It hadn’t been easy because of their scenes together including a huge love scene, but she’d done it. She just couldn’t deal with him and how she felt when she was around him. She sighed. Oh, Lord, he’s coming over here, she realized.
Michael came over to Rach, and not giving her the chance to avoid him, grabbed her by her arm. “We need to talk. Enough of this.” He told her. “Now.” He pulled her into a back room of the Pub and shut the door. The owners were friends of his and they’d agreed to let him use the room when he told them he needed to talk to his girlfriend.
Rachel glared at Michael angrily as he pushed her into the back room. “Just who do you think you are, handling me like this? Where do you get off?” she fumed at him as he turned and locked the door behind them and pocketed the key.
Michael stared at her with equal fervour and then motioned to the chairs around the table. “I dare because I am tired of your behavior with me when we’re off camera. I am tired of getting the silent treatment to deserve it. I am fed up with how you’re acting. And the most troubling part about all this is that it’s not because you’re actually angry or upset with me about something. And it’s not because you’ve stopped caring about me or us. It’s because you’re scared. You’re terrified of being hurt. Like before. But, the thing is, Rach is that I am not that guy. Don’t make me into that or him. I care about you, Rach.” He told her softly. “I am not like that. You know it and I know it.” He murmured. “I would never deliberately hurt you, or cheat on you, while we’re together. Never. I love you. Heart and soul. I love you.”
Rachel fought back the tears as she looked at Michael. She knew he was right. He wasn’t that guy. He wasn’t manipulating or controlling in any way. There’d been many rumors about Michael over the years including the gay rumors but he’d always been decent to her. Even when they’d slept together and in her panic afterward, she ran from him and the situation, he still treated her with respect on camera.  He respected her decision to avoid any personal emotional involvement with him. Until this moment, he’d been respectful and every bit the gentleman that he was. “You’re right. I am scared. I am terrified, Michael. Of opening myself up again emotionally. Of being vulnerable and leaving myself raw and open with the chance of being hurt again. So after that night and I realized how I felt and how you felt  - I panicked and ran.” She replied quietly. She took a deep breath. She sighed. The truth was, if she was totally honest, she loved him now more than ever. There was something so loveable about Michael Nelson. She just had to have the courage to reach out and take a chance. “I love you too.” She confessed softly. “I am just scared.”
Michael nodded. He reached over then and pulled her into his lap, cradling her in his arms. “I know. I am too.” He replied.
Rachel put her arms around his neck and kissed him. “So, where do we go from here?” she asked him.
Michael smiled and bent down and kissed her a second time. “Well, we’re in a TV show that’s doing well in the ratings. I’d say we move along with that and see where it takes us.” He told her.
Rachel nodded. “And us?” she asked.
Michael smiled. “Why don’t we just see how it goes. Date a bit. Stay in each other’s flats at times. Just see how it goes. I want to be with you, but I want you comfortable with it Rach. No running away if you’re scared. You come to me. You talk to me. If you want to end it at some point, we can talk about that too." He continued.
Rachel nodded. “Yes. Yes, I’d like that.” She replied. “ I love you.”
Michael nodded. “I love you too, Rach. Never doubt that.” He responded, tightening his arms around her.
Rachel tucked her head against his chest. She nodded.
They never moved for the longest time.
