sign of the times

author’s note: this is a more serious themed request. as someone who definitely doesn’t have the most desirable body and is struggling right now this request was a very sweet one, it was my pleasure to write it.

synopsis: when you feel insecure seungkwan is there to show you how much he loves all of you.

you never considered yourself to be the most stunning of them all, the star of the room, the shining diamond. you knew everyone had their flaws, of course they had, however the human heart doesn’t always know everything your brain wants it to believe. self love is a very fragile thing, and can be broken just as easily by a feather as if it weighed tonnes like a block of bricks.

when seungkwan entered your bathroom the first thing he noticed was the way you quickly looked away from your form in the mirror, a sense something he never expected to see shine in your eyes…disgust? you pulled your shirt down subtly, and brushed your hands delicately under your eyes in a quick motion before turning to him. the smile he loved dearly was present on your face, but he knew better; it was the shadow of its own twin, the real one. you got very familiar with shadows recently, the cracks of sunlight disappearing slowly but surely, undetected to the naked eye. you were going through a rough time in your life, the stress taking a toll on you. just by this one moment of being caught red handed he saw through it all; you didn’t know how he saw the single teardrop proving being in pain dropping from the corner of your eye, sitting below your pretty lashes stubbornly. how his eyes drifted to the wavering of your hand above the soft material of the clothes covering your precious being, the other grabbing it angrily, holding onto the fabric for dear life as it was your saving grace from an unknown threat. he slowly raised his gaze, boring into the orbs of your own, searching for an answer he had not received thus far.

“hi.” you whispered in a gentle tone, the love for him never leaving from your irises which always smiled at his every day and every night. “hi.” he replied back; one step forward, two steps forward. “my love.” he kissed your cheeks; one cheek, the other cheek. his breath was warm and tender, felt like home. the sigh escaping his lips made you realise: he was your home. and being home provides endless comfort when needed. “i can’t find love towards myself anymore, seungkwan.” you smiled again, this time sadness seeping through the line between your lips. he smiled back at you, mirroring your face. “i know.”

he was silent throughout the moments when the tears fell, when the hands once dangling on your sides searched for support by connecting around his waist, head taking a rest on his being; trying to find solance in home. “you are okay. we have been here before.” it was like breathing to him; loving you, taking care of you, making sure you were protected, well. it was light for him like a feather, the weight of your burdens, your concerns. “just to stop you from crying, i would take it all. take it all if i could.” his heart burned and twisted with sorrow, his everything was in pain. you felt his big hands give you a squeeze. “i am here, i am listening sweetheart.” so you talked. and talked. and talked. “i am becoming the shadow of my true self. stretch marks, eye bags, cellulite, sadness.” his most hated confession to hear, to get information about. how lowly you thought of yourself sometimes made him itch to solve the issue, to love you so much more he already has, to want to show you more how much he treasures you.

“i have a question for you, my love. do indentical snowflakes exist?” you looked at him confused. “of course not, every one is different, it is common knowledge. but why would you ask me this all of a sudden?” his grin made you laugh, even though you didn’t know the reason behind it, just seeing him made you happier. “exactly because you said what i wanted to tell you yourself. that being unique and different applies to every human being. and snowflakes change after being formed, just like humans do after being born. sometimes one bit melts off, then another one finds it and they get attached in a new shape, molding the flake throughout its whole journey to the ground. they are never perfect, always changing. you and me, we too always change, sometimes we are at the top, nearly what we perceive as perfect, then fall apart a bit, just to be rebuilt again. what you’re going through, mentally or physically doesn’t mean you are not yourself. and certainly doesn’t give a reason for you to feel insecure in front of me, ever. i love you for you, and i swore i would love you always. so please, don’t hide your uncertainties and pain anymore?” he shyly pleaded, tears visible in his eyes. he himself didn’t expect to get this emotional, but seeing, feeling the fear, the sadness you locked in your heart made him angry. angry at your surroundings for making you stressed, for making you overwork yourself to the point where you didn’t even recognise yourself anymore. angry at the world for making you feel like you had to be…ashamed? why would you be? just because your body changed? what does that have to do with one’s heart and true soul? he didn’t know. your sobs never stopped; they were like a desperate cry out for him, and he wished he could heal you faster than time, however he knew this was gonna be a long journey.

he kissed the top of your head, swaying from side to side by the bathroom sink, letting you grab him tightly, taking the place of the fabric of your shirt. “you don’t have to say anything right now. let’s stay like this for a little while.” he felt you nod against him, quietly hiccuping while trying to process his words, trying to find the truth in them; trying to accept them, accept yourself again.

the next time he spoke he didn’t know how or when would his words come true, but he knew he was right. “we’ll be alright my love. you will be alright.”

OT13 Seventeen’s Reaction to you being a Swiftie during “The Tortured Poets Department” release date.

A/N: It’s been an emotional 24ish hours because Taylor Swift gave us 31 fucking new songs and they all hurt so good. Expect some angsty things from me based off some of these songs soon LOL. Side note, this wont be perfect because it’s 1:30 am and I’m feeling feelings. I hope y’all enjoy regardless.

Warning: minor angst, major fluff, mentions some alcohol stuff, The Tortured Poets Department is an emotional roller coaster and has some heavy topics. Listen at own risk but also hear the tea LMAO

✫ S Coups

Seungcheol walked through the door at 2 am and saw you sitting at the kitchen table with a worn out look on your face. He noticed in front of you, ice cream that had been half melted waiting for you to take another bite. He knew that you were waiting up for Taylor Swifts new album and from what he had heard from you, this potentially would be the saddest album to date. Yes, even more sad than Red. He stood there for a while unsure what to say which made you look up at him.

“Babe… she released a double album. We’ve been clowning a double since 1989 era back in 2014 and she finally did it.”

He raised an eyebrow at this and sat next to you, “well thats good right? Your clowning was finally successful?”

You scoffed before rubbing your mouth and looking him in the eyes, “I mean yeah, but like. It’s so fucking sad. I can’t believe he did this to her.”

Seungcheol just softly smiled while taking the spoon from your hand so he could scoop himself some ice cream as well. He didn’t know much about Taylor lore but he did think she was a talented artist. “Well I got a few hours, show me the album.”

✫ Jeonghan

Jeonghan found your love for Taylor to be precious. So when he found out in February she was releasing a new album he asked if there was anything he could do to help prepare you for the album release.

That’s when you decided to do a Swiftie 101 with Jeonghan and told him all the lore behind whats been going on since the Reputation Era to now. At first he was skeptical at having to need to know that much background information but he learned to love watching you talk about something you cared about so passionately.

When it was time for the album to be released, he was ready. He wrote down questions he had while you both listened to the album because he didn’t want to interrupt your experience of listening to the song for the first time. He held your hand when “So Long London” came on and coo’d when you cried during “loml” while wiping a tear from your eye. He made a mental note to thank Taylor Swift if he ever met her for being able to give his partner and him a bonding experience.

✫Joshua

Hell, Joshua was with you on the couch and clowning with you while watching the Grammys. You were positive Reputation (Taylor’s Version) was going to be announced at the Grammys and tbh Joshua believed your assumptions were right as always.

When Taylor announced her new album instead of Reputation TV, both of your mouths dropped. It was a new era. You both then decided to start planning on spending time with each other that night. He knew he was pushing it just a bit because Seventeens album was coming out the next week but he also knew he wanted to be there for you in case it was emotional. Which, was pretty much a given it was going to be because it was called “The Tortured Poets Department.”

When the day finally came, you both made friendship bracelets and ate some snacks while enjoying the mastery of her pen. You both found the album to be extremely well done.

✫Jun

Jun was not sure what to expect when you had become a bit distant the last few weeks. You were talking to him less and less and it honestly was causing him some concerns. Did he do something wrong? Were you dying? Were you okay?

He decided to do what anyone would do and come over unannounced with flowers and your favorite Take Out. He was not expecting to see you sobbing on the couch with smeared eyeliner and mascara as you were reading the lyrics to a new song off of Taylor’s new album called “The Prophecy.”

You didn’t notice Jun standing there awkward as your heart broke into a million pieces as you thought about how you were before you met Jun. You were so blessed to have him in your life but you just felt sick that Blondie was feeling that way. Once the song ended you finally saw Jun and started crying harder and that’s when it hit him.

Album release day.

Similar thing had happened after Midnights dropped and you heard “You’re On Your Own Kid.” He then brought over your food and listened while you babbled to him about “The Prophecy” and why it was the saddest song you had ever heard.

✫Hoshi

“Hey Soonyoung I have a question for you,” you asked him while spinning Ramen around in your bowl. This made your boyfriend look up worried. One because you called him his real name and not “baby” and two, he never could tell what type of question you would ask.

He cleared his throat while giving you a concerned look which made you giggle. That giggle made his fears increase but he decided to humor you. Maybe you were finally going to ask him something simple like: “would you still love me if I was a worm?”

However, he just wasn’t that lucky.

“So Taylor Swift’s album “The Tortured Poets Department” is coming out soon and I was wondering if you could break up with me before it so I can feel it.”

Soonyoung was absolutely flabbergasted and shook his head no quickly. This made you while and pathetically try to beg but Soonyoung stood his ground and crossed his arms.

“Baby, you’re going to have to use imagination for that because I can’t ever break up with you. Just thinking of doing that hurts me.”

“I know baby, but hear me out, this album is rumored to be about her breakup of 6 years. I wanna cry with her.” Soonyoung shook his head no again with his lips pursed. He knew you loved Taylor but he loved you so much more. He’d do anything for you but not that. Even if it was temporary or fake.

✫ Wonwoo

Similarly to Jeonghan, Wonwoo got the Swiftie 101 class except yours happened while y’all were snuggling before bed randomly one evening.

Therefore, he knew the drill and knew how to be a supportive Swiftie boyfriend. Did he have your favorite wine? Check. Did he have tissues? Check. Did he have a shoulder to cry on if you needed it? You’re in luck, he has two!

He poured you both a glass of wine as you pressed play on Fortnight (which he was looking forward to because Post Malone is the man.) After a few songs you had already downed your wine and he quickly refilled it making you blush and thank him quietly. You both then listened to the remainder of the album and he’d give the famous wonu smile whenever you were guessing who the songs were about. Heck, after a while, even he joined in on the guessing game.

✫Woozi

Unknown to you, Jihoon had pre-saved TTPD and listened to it in his studio within a minute of it coming out. While he didn’t know about the lore or any behind the scenes things about Taylor Swift he focused on the lyrics and production of the songs and was impressed. He made little notes to talk to you about them when he got home.

Once he got home at about 3:30 am, he noticed you were sitting with your legs against your chest still listening to the album. He smiled at you and sat beside you. You leaned against him sighing as he wrapped his arms around you to cuddle. He knew you felt sad because of the album and honestly it was sad so he didn’t blame you one bit.

“So she released an additional 15 songs,” you said after awhile which made Jihoon raise an eyebrow. He only listened to the first 16 songs and suddenly he didn’t feel as prepared.

“15???”

“15!”

“Damn… well iI got notes on the first 16 songs if you wanna talk about those.”

This made you sit up with a smile which made Jihoon smile as well before leaning in to kiss you. “Deal.”

✫ DK

Like Jun, Seokmin had witnessed Midnights album release with you along with the Taylor’s Versions of both Speak Now and 1989. He thought he was mentally prepared for this Album but he was so wrong.

Y’all had just finished “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys” and when “Down Bad” started he officially felt his heart break.

It was as if Seokmin and your tear ducts were synced as tears fell down both of your faces. At that moment, Seokmin made an oath to you he would never put you in a situation that Taylor unfortunately had to endure.

Once you finally got through all 16 songs and both were ready to fall asleep, Taylor announced and additional 15. Seokmin just looked at the announcement in disbelief before sitting up and saying “okay baby, lets cry some more.”

✫ Mingyu

To be honest, Mingyu loved doing the scavenger hunts that Taylor and Taylor Nation had the swifties do. He found it so interesting the little clues and everything they had that he was a bit jealous they didn’t have something like that with Seventeen. It was a brilliant idea and a great way to bring some excitement to the table for a new album.

Watching you bite your lip as you looked through older songs of hers on Apple Music to find the clues was so attractive to him and he’d look into your eyes as you shared theories on what Tortured Poets would be about.

He just found you so precious and loved these little moments together with you and was happy to be there.

✫ Minghao

Minghao promised to listen to the new album with you but he couldn’t help but feel upset at what was being talked about.

It wasn’t that he didn’t think it was good. He was just so disappointed in whoever Taylor was singing about because of the infidelity, lying, and just treating her like garbage. His heart then hurt when you innocently told him the lyrics were relatable.

Minghao knew you had a rough relationship prior to yours and it made him sad that he wasn’t able to be there sooner so he could help you overcome the hurt. He tried his best to hide the rage and hurt he felt empathetically to you in hopes not to ruin the album for you. However, you knew. You knew how he felt and while you never would tell him, you fell more in love with him at that moment. How beautiful it was to finally have someone who you know could never hurt you like that again.

✫ Seungkwan

Similarly to Joshua and Wonwoo, Seungkwan stayed up to listen to the album with you. It was a tradition you both did for your favorite artists. You had done it a month prior with Beyonce’s “Cowboy Carter” and now it was time to stop yeehawing and time to cry.

Even though you were more of the Swiftie between you two, even he couldn’t help but feel emotional while listening to the album. When you both first listened to “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart” you both had to pause before going to the next song.

You paused because you felt horrible for Taylor meanwhile, he paused because he could relate to the lyrics so much. Seungkwan couldn’t help but think of his hiatus last year and how he felt after coming back. When he started to cry you couldn’t help but wrap your arms around him and cry with him.

✫ Vernon

Hansol walked into your shared apartment and saw you lying on the floor disassociated and couldn’t help but find you adorable. He had given you a day to listen to the album per your request and from the looks of it, it fucked you up.

He decided to lay next to you in support while holding your hand which made you instantly squeeze his hand three times. “Guessing the album was good?”

“No, it was great. Just so sad.”

He hummed and pulled you closer to him and petted your hair. You took it as an invitation to tell him all about the album. You couldn’t see his face but he had a sad smile on his face. He felt bittersweet. Bitter because he knew you were hurting but sweet because he found it enduring that you trusted him this much to be vulnerable with him.

✫ Dino

You decided that you would listen to the album by yourself the first time around. Chan was respectful about it and waited patiently to hear the outcome.

After you listened to it all you made your way to Chan and curled up in a ball next to him. He instinctively wrapped an arm around you and pressed a kiss to your temple. “So what did you think?”

“There were two songs that made me think of you.”

This made him worried because from what you told him this album was rumored to be about the end of Taylor’s 6 year relationship and he thought that y’all were golden. Y’all hadn’t been fighting and everything was okay.

The look on his face made you laugh before pressing a kiss on his lips, “listen to them before you worry.”

You then put on The Alchemy and So High School for him and his heart felt like it exploded with happiness and relief. He kissed you before cheekily asking, “So… I’m your Travis Kelce?” You nodded with a smile, “and I’m your Taylor Swift.”

He laughed before giving you another kiss, “then I’ll make sure you constantly stay bejeweled.”

❥ seungcheol

if you want to end up with an extremely sulky boyfriend who’ll insist on giving you the silent treatment for the rest of the day, then yeah, go ahead and avoid his kisses. cheol would obviously be so petty the second he’d notice you ignoring his kisses on purpose, he’d spend the day giving you an attitude in his sulky choi seungcheol manner. funny thing is how by the end of the day cheol would be low key on the verge of death, because he didn’t get to touch you, hug you, cuddle you, etc throughout the day (and the only person to blame is him, his pride, and his stubbornness) (can you imagine his clinginess after not being able to touch you for the whole day?)

❥ jeonghan

you chose the wrong person to mess with. even if you avoid his kiss only once, your precious hannie turns into the menace yoon jeonghan - no partner privileges can save you from his pettines when you ignore his kisses. he’s kind of the same as cheol, clingy and in need of your touch, but whereas cheol is a whiny baby, jeonghan uses your own weapon against you. he’ll avoid kissing you, he’ll avoid hugging you, he’ll avoid doing all of the things he knows you love. he’d wait till the point where you’d come sulking to him, upset that he’s just being mean, because after all, you avoided only one of his kisses. after that, he’d just laugh and coo at you for being so needy (it’s not like he was dying to kiss you ten seconds ago). “that’s what happens when you ignore my kisses, honey.” (lovingly)

❥ joshua

at first joshua would get a bit concerned that something had happened, or that you weren’t feeling well, that is until he realised you were just messing with him. jeonghan’s evil twin because two can play this game. he’d proceed to avoid most of your kisses for the rest of the day, and if you gave him confused looks (he never ignored your kisses, so his behaviour would immediately be suspicious in your eyes), he’d just give you a sweet smile, asking you if something was wrong, clearly messing with you. your (adorable) frustration at the end of the day would be worth every kiss joshua had to give up that day. of course you end up making out for the rest of the evening because you have to get your daily amount of shua kisses

❥ jun

too shy to ask you why you ignored his kiss, too sad to think straight, too worried that he did something wrong. immediately goes through the things he had said that day, trying to remember if he could've said something to upset you, or if he had forgotten to do something you asked him to do. so he just ends up moping around, trying to remember things he didn’t even do, but if you asked him if something was wrong, he’d just brush it off, not wanting to come off as too dramatic. but then it’d get too much for jun, and he’d shyly ask about that ignored kiss, and if there was something he could do to apologise for whatever he did. and his sweetness and worry would melt your heart so badly, it was never your intention to avoid his kiss, it just happened, so you’d scold him for not mentioning it earlier. you’d give him a lot of reassuring kisses afterward because that’s what jun deserves

❥ hoshi

he’d get extremely confused because it’s not often that you avoid his kisses, or any type of affection for that matter, but would brush it off as only an accident. when he tries to kiss you again some time later, and you ignore it once again, he gets so so sad :(( “what do you mean you don’t want to kiss me?” would immediately ask you if something was wrong, and if he did something to upset you, he doesn’t like it when you give him the silent treatment (although nothing but the ignored kisses showed that you were angry with him, which made him even more confused). before you’d be able to say anything, though, he’d start apologising (for what he didn’t know), and you’d end up laughing at your silly boyfriend, who’d stand there with a question mark above his head because what the hell was going on? you’d just coo at him and kiss him (he still wouldn’t know what had just happened, but hey, at least he got his kiss)

❥ wonwoo

(dare to avoid this man’s kiss and i am going to hunt you, and kill you). if you ignore his kisses wonwoo will get sad. not like cheol in a “i will whine and throw a tantrum” way, but in a way where you can clearly see the corners of his mouth turning downwards. he’d be the epitome of this 🥺 emoji (the funniest thing is when he tries to act like he doesn’t care, but then he goes around with his big sparkly eyes, and the smallest pout, acting like a kicked puppy). i know a lot of people see wonwoo as someone cold that doesn’t like physical affection, but i don’t see him like that at all. yes, he might be too shy to initiate hugs and cuddles himself, but he thrives off of your touch, and hugs, and kisses, etc. so he’d turn into a lil sad cuddlebug when you avoid his kisses

❥ woozi

jihoon would be so understanding if you ever avoided his kiss because as someone who really values his personal space, he gets that sometimes you’re just not in the mood for affection, and physical touch - he would never want to make you uncomfortable, thus he wouldn’t think much of you ignoring his kiss. and that alone would melt your heart because get yourself a man who’s so understanding of your comfort, and would not throw a tantrum just because of a kiss (i’m looking at you choi seungcheol). but, the second you start avoiding more of his kisses, he immediately starts suspecting that something’s off, and that it has to be one of silly pranks. when you ignore his goodnight kiss, which you usually happily accept, he’s sure you’re just messing with him (which he instantly calls you out for). woozi would find your commitment to the bit so funny, you’re seriously something else. to end your prank with a bang, he’d grab your chin and place a peck on your lips, and go to sleep like nothing happened

❥ dk

to be honest, you’d break his heart by avoiding his kisses, so please don’t do that. seokmin would straight up start spiralling and overthinking because what if he had said something hurtful to you, what if he had forgotten an important date, what if he had bought the wrong flavour of your favourite snack, what if he hadn’t given you your goodnight kiss. there would be so many “what if’s” in his head. he’d be the epitome of a kicked puppy, and yes - just because you avoided one of his kisses. not to be dramatic, but dk would feel like his entire world was crumbling, you never avoided his kisses, so why did you do it all of the sudden. obviously after seeing his reaction you'd immediately explain that you didn’t mean to make him upset, etc etc. and he’d demand extra cuddles and kisses before bed because hello that was so mean??? later, though, he’d realise how dramatic he was about all of it, and you’d end up laughing so much during your nighttime cuddle session

❥ mingyu

yeah, not on his watch. the second he catches you avoiding his kiss you’re trapped in his embrace with a very offended puppy expression from mingyu, and a demand for an explanation why you dare to ignore his kiss. he will not let you walk away before you tell him why you even thought of avoiding his kiss, and an apology in the form of even more kisses. the thing with mingyu is that he can be as petty as coups and jeonghan, so even after your apology he’d still give you an attitude throughout the day, and even go as far as avoiding some of your kisses (which he realised wasn’t that great of an idea, because it made him even more grumpy and sulky), so at some point he’d just trap you in a bear hug and apologise, shyly asking for a peck

❥ minghao

xu mighao is a petty, petty man. he immediately knew what you were up to by avoiding his morning kiss, while you were making breakfast, so don’t be surprised with no more kisses for you for the day. hao would find it so amusing, because - on one hand, you know him well enough to know how your little pranks always end (with him not falling for it), on the second he’d think it was adorable how you couldn’t help yourself (you still had the hope that someday he’d fall for a prank). the small smirk on his face anytime you’d (not so) subtly try to kiss him would annoy you so much, but hey - you were the one to avoid his kiss in the first place. all jokes aside, he’d think you were so cute, sulking at the end of the day because you didn’t get to kiss him, and as a small apology he’d give you all of the kisses you missed throughout the day (can you hear his giggles in between the kisses because i can)

malfuntiones because his first instinct is to whine and pout, but after a second he’s all grumpy and you’re rewarded with the boo seungkwan side eye. does not like when you avoid any type of his affection, especially if it's his kisses (and he was in practice for the whole day, why don’t you want to kiss him), so he’d just sulk around with an attitude because ignoring his kisses is not allowed in this household. but after some time he gets tired of the “why did you ignore me”, so he’d strike again with his kisses (don’t avoid them the second time, or seungkwan will get really annoyed with you). on the other hand, seungkwan is another member of the “petty” squad, so if he was feeling particularly evil that day, he’d just proceed with ignoring your kisses as well :))) (then both of you would end up grumpy and annoyed)

doesn’t pay much attention to it - not because he doesn’t care about your kisses, but similarly to woozi - he understands that everyone has their boundaries, and maybe you weren’t feeling in the mood for kissing at that moment, or maybe you just needed some space. it doesn’t really matter, your personal space is sacred to vernon, so he’d never do anything to cross it. of course he’d get a bit sulky (he’d never show it, though) if you kept ignoring his kisses, but he still wouldn’t try to force anything on you. he’d maybe mention it as a passing though, why you were avoiding his kisses, mainly to make sure you weren’t upset. then you’d kind of realise that, yes - you did ignore his kisses, but it was a bit of an accident? and vernon would immediately assure you that he didn’t mind, and that as long as you were happy, he was happy too

please, don’t avoid his kisses. poor baby would immediately think he did something wrong, because you never ignore his kisses, so obviously he did something to upset you. chan wouldn’t ask you if something was wrong, though, he’d be afraid of upsetting you even more, which would leave him with a small pout and sad puppy eyes. and while normally he isn't the most energetic person, you’d immediately notice the lack of his “spark”, and his usual excitement over the smallest things, which could mean only one thing - he was overthinking you avoiding his kisses. so please, give him lots of reassuring kisses, and tell him you love him
