Hi! Just a reminder that Lily heard James’ body hit the floor, knowing that the love of her life had just been murdered, and then also had to come to the sickening realization that James had been the only thing standing between Voldemort and Harry! Also, also, Lily didn’t explicitly know if Harry WOULD live, but, a mother’s love is a powerful thing y’know, so she sacrificed herself with the hope that her son would live! Lily didn’t die when the killing curse struck her, she died when she heard James’ body hit the floor, and all that, more importantly Lily died without knowing if her son would survive.
Also James forgot his wand, so he was basically like a deer walking in front of a car going 80 mph!
Have a nice weekend :)

What if Desmond was one of the shadow soldiers in CoD? Like, he's really good at what he does, so becomes like the right hand man, but when 141 is betrayed, turns on the Americans because 'fuck this shit, this aint what I signed up for'
Shadow Company, in general, has always been more on the side of morally ambiguous since the only time we see them is when they’re working for Shepherd (in both OG and Reboot games) and he’s more on the morally gray area than a full-on villain so, yeah, Desmond could totally be part of Shadow Company.
Hell, instead of being a bartender, he could have found his way into becoming one of the Shadow Company’s recruits in the first place and it would have worked.
They’re mercs for hires but there seemed to be some kind of camaraderie going on among them, most notably seen when Graves said “These guys on the ground... Mexican Special Forces, 141, they are your brothers now. You treat 'em like your own and let's get this done, yeah?” in the mission Close Air and he does have the habit of calling others “brother” which would resonate with Desmond’s desire for a place to belong (especially 16 years old Desmond).
Also, their equivalent to “Roger” is “Yup-yup” and that will never stop sounding both funny and adorable to me.
In a scenario where Desmond becomes a member of Shadow Company, a setup we can use is him quickly rising the ranks and getting the attention of Graves, building some form of bond between them that is both friendship-forged-in-fire and bash-brothers that soon turns him into Graves’ (and Shadow Company’s) unofficial second-in-command.
You can even ‘transplant’ Desmond into Shadow Company as Velikan since Velikan never showed his face and there’s no real information about him. (Velikan is from the multiplayer section of Modern Warfare 2019)
Desmond wouldn’t balk at any questionable methods Shadow Company even does, especially if he joined the PMC at sixteen.
So Desmond turning on Shadow Company during the end of Dark Waters/start of Alone?
It could work if Desmond built a stronger bond with 141 and that is more possible if Desmond joined Shadow Company later (like, say, after the whole Grand Temple deal.) This is the idea that "fuck this shit, this ain't what I signed up for" can definitely be included.
Otherwise, Desmond would only see it as another mission and the only reason why he would take a stand would be if he believes that Graves and the others are getting out of hand (like, for example, them shooting on Soap and Ghost when they were only ordered to shoo them away or detain them if they do not comply).
So yeah, Desmond would betray Shadow Company if he believes they’re in the wrong or if he develops a more close relationship with 141 but his thoughts on what the wrong side is isn’t as clear cut as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ due to his Assassin background.
And if we were to set this up with Desmond joining Shadow Company as a sixteen years old, betraying Shadow Company would be a hardsell at that point as they would have become something akin to a family to him.
And, if he does betray them, he would definitely get some to his side, creating some kind of civil war between two factions in Shadow Company in the middle of Las Almas.
This is also the idea where Desmond would be more "don't make me do this, Graves..." and it would definitely have more angst.
.
.
.
I’d also just like to note something…
And this part would also be counted as a bit of a spoiler for The Shadow’s Endgame so skip this one if you don’t want to be spoiled:
Shadow Company’s brutality during Las Almas? They only specifically target corrupted officials and police officers, those in the pockets of the cartels.
Yes, they’re definitely war crimes and they do terrorize the citizens (especially the family of their targets) but, at the same time…
It’s not exactly that different from how the Brotherhood operates. They’re not stealthy about it and that was by choice as we have to assume a PMC like them should have the capabilities to be stealthy if they wanted to be, they simply chose not to.
Perhaps they wanted to make an example of Las Almas.
Perhaps they wanted to show the cartels their work.
They attacked a hostile territory and took down the corrupted high-ranking officials…
Kinda like how Assassins used to operate before the modern era.
You might even say…
Shadow Company is what the Brotherhood could have been had they continued to uphold a more militaristic approach and idolized Ezio Auditore’s liberation of Rome.

PALLAS & JUNO
PALLAS - how do they go about problem-solving?
one thing about pudding, she will solve a problem ( most times created by herself but that's beside the point ). due to her line of job you have to eventually get to a point where you're sharp minded and figure out stuff otherwise it won't a mess to solve easily - this especially when it involves big mom.
the powers given by her devil fruit are definitely a huge help, and absolutely bought pudding more time to deal with a situation at her own pace. violence used to be her go to especially during childhood as we know well, but since her heel turn she's trying to practice more strategic ways to resolve rather than escalate into a fight.
JUNO - who was the last person to show them understanding?
if we look at the timeline, i'm afraid that would be sanji - which is quite wild considering how old she is ( previous would have been lola at least a decade before ). for all my bitching about the relationship between pudding and sanji, i have to give it to oda that the cook really does get her in a way nobody seemingly can.
the last 5-10 of them interacting is literally the peak of all themes coming together - being two sides of the same coin, showing each other what they could have become had their choices been different. before that pudding mocks sanji and mentions that her "true self" ( the evil persona ) is what her family knows as well hence the real personality... which as we know is not true, she's just out there masking all the time and with every single person who interacts with her. also i believe nobody in that family knows what their true personality is since they're too scared of big mom.
sanji sees her for what she is really, which is a scared girl who's trying her best to survive in an abusive environment that leaves no space for growth and it clearly took a toll on her since it's all catching up and breaking every single wall she's raised throughout the years. while their affection is nowhere close to what the strawhats have, for a moment there has been a level of understanding ( towards her but also vice versa, though it tends to be brushed aside ) that sets in motion a chain of events that will lead to pudding's full redemption arc.
it's quite literally that one post that goes "i can care about you so much that it changes the course of the narrative" so yeah, i'm not sure what plans oda has but i do hope they stay in each other's lives ( even just platonically considering the elephant in the room ) and make each other better.

In What If (yes I'm still on that) with the Steggy storyline, Marvel is saying that the tragedy of them is that it's just so hard for them to get a happy ending. But... I don't think it's exactly a Steggy thing.
Steve and Bucky are obviously tragic - the story starts with Bucky going to war and leaving Steve behind, then Steve manages to enlist but Bucky is in danger, then he saves Bucky except then he dies anyway, so he goes too and at least in death they can find peace together. But then Steve wakes up and everyone is gone. Then Bucky is back but he doesn't remember, then he remembers but chooses to be frozen, then he's awake and remembers but Steve loses him anyway.
He's not exactly close with the Avengers. There's Tony - they bicker and Tony spends half the time they know each other hating him, and when they finally make up and get along and maybe we could actually be friends when this is all over, Tony dies.
And there's Natasha - she doesn't tell him everything and Steve doesn't know what to make of her half the time but they do become friends. And then she dies too.
Even his ending in Endgame (if I accept it as an actual thing for once for the sake of making a point) - how happy is it, really? Sure, he gets Peggy and gets to grow old with her, but he's choosing between her and his best friend, the person who's been with him his whole life, to make that happen. He's lost the few friends he made in the new century. He's burdened by grief and experiences that the woman he chooses to spend his life with will never understand.
Even for this somewhat happy ending, he has to sacrifice something. He has to manufacture the circumstances of it, because the universe wouldn't just give it to him.
What I'm saying is that maybe this impossibility to find a true happy ending isn't a part of Steve and Peggy's relationship. Maybe it's just Steve.
(And maybe that's the only way I can make peace with his Endgame ending. Maybe it's Steve realizing that the universe will never give him a happy ending, and deciding to break the rules to take it himself, no matter what he has to lose to make it happen)

#arthur harrow#I am amused at how doomed he is; which of course is a must for becoming one of my favorites. He said putting glass in my shoes will balance#my scales; will erase my sin. boy did he miscalculate. I am also amused at how much christian his take on penance looks like.opposed to the#idea of being judged by Maat (here Ammit); the idea that it was not possible to be perfect; just balanced.Instead every way penance#atonement-repentance is interpreted; he won't ever get absolution.penance from paenitentia=repentance as the desire to be forgiven;#which he wants. he knows his hope is futile; but he still desires it. He uses the interpretation of penance; as deeds done out of penitence#focusing more on the external actions; than the repentance=referred as the true interior sorrow for one's hurtful words or actions.#He sees his sin as having enjoyed dealing out pain on khonshus behalf; but repentance implies a purpose of amendment which means the#resolve to avoid such hurtful behavior in the future. And boy does he seriously drop the ball on that one; because he still is murdering#his way through his idea of a salvation; for himself and the world at large; even knowing it will end in mass murder. Could he feel#contrition= remorseful or regret as defined as deepest and firmest sorrow for one's wrongdoings. For example after killing the elderly#lady in the alps; he didn't seem to enjoy that killing; but I don't think he regrets it. And goodness do his problems with his take on#penance keep piling up; because it takes two to tango in this guilt and absolution game; a sinner and a god and he is screwed with#any of his gods be it khonshu or ammit. ‘God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance’= goodness of God leads to repentance;#but God’s goodness does not erase his wrath. his gods have wrath to spare; most of all selfishness; pettiness in spades. If his#penance is dependent on the kindness of god we know he is out of luck. Even taking an approach to penances as epitemia which#are given with a therapeutic intent so they are opposite to the sin committed; he is again out of luck. He can't do epitemia in the true#sense of it=which is doing the opposite of his sin. He would need to give up his life for the ones he took.I still believe that he;#as a true ex-avatar of khonshu; is constantly suicidal. So maybe his endgame secretly was that his death should serve as the#last penance. But true epitemia; that is neither a punishment; nor merely a pious action; is specifically aimed at healing the spiritual#ailment that has been confessed; that will be forever out of his reach. Specially because he really has a gift for choosing the gods#he sells himself into slavery for. If it is believed that penance while a duty is first of all a gift from a god=‘no man can do any penance#worthy of God's consideration without his first giving the grace to do so'; it is in this where he again is screwed because he started#the assignment without knowing what it really was. This self imposed penance was without the ‘permission’/order from his#chosen deity; which leaves the god/dess in charge to reject the penance and to happily apply and bend their own rules for what#should constitute his penance=again a servitude without a hope of freedom. Becoming himself a walking reminder to everyone and#mostly to himself that gods are as abusing corrupt and selfish as the evil he wanted to erase and they don’t want penance or#balanced scales. They want tools to do their work = he is screwed because if khonshu doesnt let go of A+ slave material;Ammit isn’t#interested in his atonement or his unbalanced scales for what she sees is his future; she sees a useful servant#and its as easy as this I can reach tag limit in rambling on my favorite subjects guilt imperfect deities and doomed characters
