going off of that twitter post about how Nandor is fucking giddy when talking w the Baron about how Guillermo killed all the vamps in the theatre and how he doesn't want Guillermo to change:
Nandor is happiest, or at least proudest, when recalling his own days as a fearsome warrior — his acts in conquering, slaughtering, and pillaging. He talks so highly of himself from that point in his life. And it begs the question if he considers vampirism a curse, at least in part, because he is no longer that once ruthless leader and fighter. In terms of overall vampires, he's honestly just kind of average it seems. And when it comes to Guillermo he's downright soft, to the point that multiple other vampires have pointed out that his feelings towards Guillermo and the way he treats him are odd, to say the least, for a vampire/familiar relationship.
But the thing is, I think the thing he respects the most about Guillermo is those same qualities he once had. He sees Guillermo as someone who is powerful and strong and fully capable of holding his own (and tbf he's very right). Him wholeheartedly vouching to the others to spare Guillermo in the name of the "warrior's code"? Yeah, that. And he knows vampirism changed that about him. I think, deep in that emotionally constipated little brain of his, he's so scared of Guillermo getting turned and no longer having those qualities he loves and respects, and instead turning out just like Nandor. We as a fandom talk a lot about how Nandor is scared Guillermo would leave him — and Nandor's said as much — and I do think that's a very good chunk of his hesitation to turn Guillermo, but I think a lot of it, too, is that he's scared of Guillermo turning out just like he has.
Yet, when Nandor sought out a wife last season, he wanted someone devoid of those exact qualities he seems to relish and uphold. He wanted someone that basically just lifted him up rather than be his equal, his counterpart. Nandor got rid of people who bested him in a fight, who were too pretty or alluring, who were funnier than him, etc. And he found, seemingly, the perfect person for him within those tight guidelines....and then proceeded to change every single thing about her. Until finally changing her to be an exact copy of Guillermo's boyfriend. Aka: he desires what Guillermo desires.
Which leads to the question of what does Guillermo desire? Well, that's not nearly as hard to piece together since he's much more open about his feelings. Guillermo desires and values the qualities that, he thinks, come with being a vampire — being ruthless, powerful, and attractive. It's the whole reason he finally said fuck it and went to Derek, because he was so tired of being him. He never realized that he already held all of those qualities he valued ("I don't feel powerful. I don't feel sexy" that's because you already were those things, love). It's just that he discovered the hard way that those qualities weren't really intrinsic to being a vampire. But, back to the point I was trying to make; basically, he values all the qualities Nandor had/has. Former fearless ruler and warrior of a nation, who had 37 wives, and is now a bloodthirsty and terrifyingly strong vampire who fucks around with anyone he wants? Check, check, and check.
So, if Guillermo desires Nandor and Nandor desires what Guillermo does, then Nandor is realistically looking for someone that compliments him and is equivalent to him. Someone who he recognizes to have all of the qualities that are fundamental to who he is and was. Man, I wonder who that could be.... And honestly? I think Nandor is finally starting to connect all these dots himself. Which is just adding to his fear of Guillermo changing in any way. Because he likes and respects who Guillermo has become over these past seasons. And I'm so scared and excited to see how he takes Guillermo being turned, both now and after he sits with the information for a while, because, realistically, Guillermo hasn't changed, not really. But will Nandor realize that?

Eichi's "Left Hand": An Archetypal Analysis of Wataru Hibiki's Role
Well, specifically of Wataru as Eichi's left hand, anyway. There's way too much ground to cover for Wataru's archetype to do it in one post.
The ruler's "right hand" is a pretty common archetype and trope that you're all probably familiar with. The "left hand," less common, shows up in different places as well.
The "right hand man" is defined by Merriam-Webster as "a very important assistant who helps someone do a job." The term comes from archetypal understandings of the function of the "right hand" which have evolved over the last centuries. In general, because most people are right-handed, the right hand has been favoured across many cultures, associated with luck and goodness.
The right hand is traditionally the hand which holds the sword, and so it is associated with action; the "right-hand man" enacts the will of the king. In his description of "the king/queen" archetype, J. E. Sandoval writes:
The sword represents power over life and death, as well as defense against those that threaten the greater order.
This is the exact role that Keito takes in Enstars. When Eichi is ill at the beginning of the year in ES!, Keito takes it upon himself to ensure that the school does not fall into disorder, tightening his hold on students and making the regulations very strict. He does this for the purpose of securing Eichi's place on Yumenosaki's "throne" while Eichi is away, and once Eichi returns, this is still frequently the role that Keito plays.
The right hand represents Deity. The aggressive hand, hand of growth and strength. Right hand laid on a person conveys authority, blessings, power, strength. Right hand lifted to heaven, and oath, swearing.
(Gertrude Jobes, Dictionary of Mythology, Folklore, and Symbols, quoted here)
The king depends on the right hand for recognition of his power and authority; the right hand is his strength and the one who exercises his will.
On the other hand (lol), the left has often historically been treated to unfavourable interpretations. Left-handed people have historically been discriminated against in many cultures and even forced to learn to use their right hands rather than their lefts.
In symbolism the body is divided vertically into halves, the right half being considered as light and the left half as darkness. [...] the light half was denominated spiritual and the left half material. Light is the symbol of objectivity; darkness of subjectivity. [...] darkness is considered as the veil which must eternally conceal the true nature of abstract and undifferentiated Being. ... several early nations used the right hand for all constructive labors and the left hand for only those purposes termed unclean and unfit for the sight of the gods. For the same reason black magic was often referred to as the left-hand path, and heaven was said to be upon the right and hell upon the left.
(Manly P Hall, The Secret Teachings of All Ages)
We see this reflected in the "narrative" created by Eichi and Keito. Keito is a member of the student council, the force of justice and order at Yumenosaki Academy, and the vice-president, cementing his role as Eichi's second in command. Wataru, by contrast, is one of the "Oddballs," who were castigated by the student council and made enemies of the public at Yumenosaki. Wataru plays the role of a "jester," associated with trickery and mischief, and Keito constantly fears that Wataru will corrupt Eichi.
The right hand bravely holds the sword, whereas the left hand does the ruler's "dirty work" in the darkness. Wataru is a member of fine, and is frequently treated to being part of Eichi's unsavoury business - trying to buy up Hokuto from Trickstar, threatening Ra*bits, and facing off against Wataru's own friends in UNDEAD and Valkyrie. The student council enacts "order" in the school through rules and regulations, and creates the guidelines by which students are subject to judgment (DreamFes participation is reflected in grades, for example). fine, on the other hand, is how Eichi threatens others using their status as a peer unit rather than by invoking the student council's authority. He challenges and uses underhanded methods to get others to compete against him, and really gets into the thick of the "battles" on the stage.
In the ES! Main Story, Eichi compares Wataru to Mephistopheles, a charming demon who (seemingly) reluctantly lured Doctor Faustus down a path of corruption and to hell, after Wataru threatens his plans for Trickstar. Eichi's plans were cruel, but they were done in the name of the student council, and so Wataru was like Mephistopheles in that he was pulling Eichi away from his own "just" decree and imperial edict.
Wataru is often the one who commentates on Eichi's tyranny - he refers to him as a tyrant, to start with, but also lauds praise upon him for his majesty and ruthlessness.
You are definitely not "evil"! You are "justice", and yet you commit atrocities and greedily devour the tears and dreams of others! Love and hatred! Hope and despair! Dreams and nightmares! You have achieved a way of life that is contradictory and conflicting!
(Ensemble Stars! Novel Adaptation, translation by maluridae)
The left hand has also been associated historically with the feminine, because it was often the hand that held the shield while the right held the sword. In China, the right hand is associated with the masculine yang, strength, and war; and the left hand is associated with the feminine yin, and honour (Carla Huffman).
... as the source of Being is in the primal darkness which preceded light, so the spiritual nature of man is in the dark part of his being, for the heart is on the left side.
(Manly P Hall, The Secret Teachings of All Ages)
Part of what makes the left hand so fearsome and threatening is that it's connected to the "heart." The honourable right hand which lives in the light does not know the truths concealed in the king's darkness. Femininity has historically been associated with chaos, emotion, and "touch," whereas masculinity is associated with rationality, order, and and "vision" (I don't have a source on hand for this one but I got my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in gender studies so just take my word for it; I'm sure it's easy to look up). The right hand is the sword and the "all-seeing eye" which dispassionately and honourably enacts justice; and the left hand guards the heart and represents desire, intimacy, and unpredictability.
The left hand has the potential to unravel the power of the king because it appeals to his heart.
Wataru plays this role so, so many times throughout Enstars. In one of their first conversations (which Eichi may have imagined, but it doesn't make a difference symbolically, because it still represents what Wataru is to Eichi), Wataru asks Eichi if he's meant to be the villain who dies or the princess who embraces him with a kiss. Eichi tells Wataru that he struggles to imagine him losing, and confesses that it pains him to see Wataru in this position even though Eichi is the one who put him in it (Element).
When Eichi tries to tear Trickstar apart, invoking his position as the Student Council President to pull Hokuto into fine, Wataru gives Hokuto a letter from his grandmother encouraging him to hold fast to his dreams. Eichi is famously angry about this, and his expression of it is incredibly intimate:
He lightly runs his fingertips through Wataru's long silver hair and, like a child throwing a temper tantrum, suddenly grabs it. With a grip so tight that Wataru's hair could possibly tear, Eichi brings his face so close that they look like they are about to kiss. He's like a woman who has gone mad with jealousy.
(Ensemble Stars! Novel Adaptation, translation by maluridae)
After some back and forth between the two, Wataru says to him:
"That is how you wished for this to unfold, yes?" Whispered to him like a fallen angel, Eichi does not react to his words; he reluctantly stays silent. He always speaks so fluently, so it's rare to see him have such trouble coming up with a reply.
(Ensemble Stars! Novel Adaptation, translation by maluridae)
This quote shows that Wataru knows what's truly in Eichi's heart and that his actions are motivated by this. Subaru asks Eichi later in Main Story why he created an opportunity to be defeated in the first place, and Eichi admits to him:
Hehe, I sure wonder why... I might have wanted to see it happen. A miracle. To see your shine that enables you to overcome any fate, no matter how hopeless it may seem. To see your limitless potential. I was born with a weak body. I've cursed the gods countless times. However, if somehow a miracle can happen in this world... if there's hope, if there's love... Then I'd also be able to love this world. That might have been what I was thinking. You can't be an idol with only love. However, if you don't have love, you aren't qualified to be an idol. I just, simply... wanted to become an idol.
(Ensemble Stars! Main Story, translation by Freddie24f)
Wataru knows what Eichi wants before Eichi knows what he wants, and he ensures that Eichi will get it even if it means doing things that Eichi doesn't like in the moment. This is the defining pattern of their entire relationship. It is the exact reason why, in the hospital before their DreamFes, Wataru says to Eichi:
I am not quite sure if it is because the script is just simply awful or not, but it is difficult to see what part I have in this! [...] I do not know whether I should be stabbed by a knife and die while letting out a scream of death and agony, or give an embrace and a kiss!
(Element, translation by Shoe/maluridae)
That what Eichi really wants is intimacy and love is obvious to Wataru, despite all of Eichi's posturing as though he wants Wataru to be the villain. Wataru lets him keep his narrative, but joins fine shortly afterward. In Diner Live, Wataru baits and then switches Eichi by challenging Knight Killers to a "showdown" against Träumerei, only to surprise him by turning the performance into a joint live and switching out all the penlights which the audience was supposed to use to vote into ones that emit rainbow light, representing togetherness. When the live is over, he tells Eichi that his real motive was to express his desire for the two of them to keep performing together as equals and stay together in the future. Eichi agrees and tells Wataru that this is his true dream too.
Wataru grants the wishes Eichi can only make in his heart, the ones that are too unconscious and in the dark to articulate - and it is the role of the "left" to know the unconscious desires that the heart conceals.
Because of this, the left hand has influence over the king that the right hand does not. The right hand is blunt, offensive, the upright "hand of justice." When the right hand and the king are not on the same page, when they disagree, it undermines the king's power and causes tension and friction, but the right hand does not have much ability to influence the king to change. The right hand is unsubtle and doesn't speak directly to the king's heart. The right hand and the king must be in sync to secure the king's authority.
This is why, in the ES! Main Story, when Keito disagrees with Eichi's methods in breaking Trickstar up, he basically can't change Eichi's mind. He ends up undermining Eichi's intent instead by permitting and even encouraging Mao to leave Akatsuki and rejoin Trickstar. When the right hand is out of sync with the ruler, he takes on a quality that is hypocritical or mutinous, either resentfully enacting the ruler's will despite his own wishes, or betraying and actively acting against the ruler's will with the blunt force of the sword. These tensions culminate in Quarrel Festival, when Eichi challenges Keito to a straight up fight and threatens to disband Akatsuki, forcing Keito to acknowledge his own will and push back against Eichi. Ultimately, Keito explains that he does not feel bound by Eichi to any further extent than what he would want, but expresses that it was a relief to vent his frustration with the decisions Eichi sometimes makes.
The left hand, by contrast, is subtle, and can speak to the king's heart. This is why Wataru can influence Eichi while remaining at his side; in Jingle Bells, Wataru expresses disappointment with how Eichi handles Tori, and Eichi, although defensive, immediately reflects on how he should change his approach. Wataru's involvement in the ES! Main Story is another example of this. Eichi may become angry with him, but Wataru speaks directly to his deep desires, leaving Eichi speechless and subject to his influence.
The right hand depends on the ruler for its position and purpose, and the ruler depends on the right hand for its authority and power. The left hand, however, speaks to the heart and flows from the heart, and so it can act independently and exert influence.
A conflict with Keito is between Eichi's ideals and Keito's; a conflict between Eichi and Wataru is between Eichi's own actions and his own principles. When Keito betrays Eichi, it's because they don't agree. When Wataru betrays Eichi, it's because Eichi has betrayed himself.
Sandoval, continuing his description of the king/queen archetype, writes:
The king/queen archetype is, on the whole, not pacifist. It is always prepared to establish "justice", or order, by whatever means necessary. But because of this, it also requires a counterbalance from its opposite side - the idealistic heart [...] The king/queen archetype, if left to itself, can fall into a state of tyranny where the same power originally used to safeguard the city from harm eventually becomes the greatest harm to the city. Due to the natural passage of time, the king's commands eventually become outdated and dysfunctional as the world around him changes. If they are not revisited, via a return to the pure ideal that they were aiming to uphold, the king's reign will collapse. The role of the [...] compass, is to check the king/queen's values and character to ensure fitness to rule and to redirect them to their northern star.
As Eichi's right hand, Keito is the one who enacts Eichi's vision of justice/order. But as his left hand, Wataru keeps Eichi in touch with his true desires and ideals and subtly redirects him back onto his path while staying at his side and helping him do his "dirty work." Where Keito carries the sword, Wataru is a rogue at Eichi's side, understanding more than he lets on and performing sleights of hand and illusions that charm him and guide him.
As the carrier of the sword, Keito's role is comparable to the archetype of a knight. Wataru's role is closer to that of confidante - connoting "confidence"/someone you "confide in." The right hand doesn't necessarily have to be one person; it could be an army. The left hand is always one person; it connotes specialness and secrecy.
This is the archetypal pair that is regarded from the outside with suspicion. The ruler and right hand are "easy to understand." The ruler and the left hand have a special closeness that causes rumours to fly about temptation, corruption, and secret love affairs.
When Keito pleads with Eichi to get rid of Wataru, Eichi tells him:
If you're my right hand, then Wataru's my left. It'd be a shame if I got rid of either just yet... ♪
(Circus, translation by Enstars Translates)
In this quote, Eichi suggests to Keito that if Wataru is expendable, Keito is too. However, it's important to note that Eichi is actually left-handed, a point that Wataru actually comments on:
He calls himself "Eichi's right hand"! Even though Eichi is left-handed - how interesting! Ahh, interpreting those sentiments surrounding this matter gives me such a fuzzy feeling... ☆
(The Flag's Honor * Flower Festival, translation by Shoe/maluridae)
Flower Fes was written by Akira, and so the symbolism behind Eichi's left-handedness with Wataru as his left and Keito as his right is definitely intentional. When Eichi suggests to Keito that he's subject to being gotten rid of as much as Wataru is, he is not suggesting that Keito and Wataru are equal. The loss of Eichi's left hand would be more detrimental to Eichi than the loss of his right. As much as Eichi loves and appreciates Keito, and has no desire to get rid of him, he needs Wataru in a different way than he needs Keito, and if he were to get rid of either of them, he would probably get rid of Keito first. (And indeed, he does try to push Keito away in Quarrel Festival, whereas he and Wataru are in the same unit and declare their intentions to keep performing together into the future).
Theories about the left and right brain also further illustrate their specific positions. The right hand is controlled by the left brain, which is associated with logic, math, and structure. The left hand is controlled by the right brain, which is associated with creativity and art. Keito represents "discipline" in Eichi's life, structure, order, safety, security, and the masculine values mentioned above. Wataru represents Eichi's creativity and imagination with his magic, and the two perform together as artists. Being left-handed, Eichi is more firmly planted in the creative side, despite his role of representing order in Yumenosaki Academy as part of the student council with Keito.
As Eichi's "left hand," Wataru fulfills a major role in Eichi's life; namely, that of representing his heart. Despite being associated with the darkness and looked on with suspicion, Wataru knows Eichi's heart and his unconscious desires. Independent from Eichi's will, Wataru is able to remind and guide Eichi on the basis of his principles, and subtly influence Eichi in ways that push him to grow and be his best self. He is Eichi's confidante, and, owing to Eichi's left-handedness, the person that Eichi would be most reluctant to get rid of. He is the unpredictable chaos that Eichi craves, capable of unraveling Eichi's best laid plans, and, because he knows Eichi's heart, Eichi knows that when he does unravel them, it's because that's what's best for Eichi.
Of course. I trust you more than anyone in this world, including myself. Also, I wouldn't mind a betrayal - if it's from you. I wouldn't care even if you did anything awful to me. Is this feeling love, as the others call it?
(Eichi in Tempest, official English Ensemble! Stars translation)

I was reading Holden's Exalted vs World of Darkness crossover splatbook today. Most of it looks pretty cool. The Exalts are nerfed a little bit to become merely major powers rather than world-ruler-by-default, the interaction rules have some general guidelines and some specific conversions, the secret history doesn't have any gaping holes that leapt out at me.
The chapter for Changeling:the Dreaming opened with a sour note though:
The gates of Arcadia are closed, the roads leading to it lost. The children of dream and nightmare are trapped in a cold, brutal world that has replaced beauty and hope with 24-hour news and Donald Trump. The last of the fae do not merely remember the Age of Legends, they are its sole survivors, nurturing the final embers of the Dreaming’s fire for as long as they can. In the end, they know, it will all be for naught. In the end Winter comes, the last fires go out, and the knights and bards, the princes and cobblers, the big bad wolves and wicked witches all close their eyes and dream no more. But for now there are still yet a few more days of Autumn, and perhaps one more grand dance on the card.
Donald Trump was perhaps the man most a 'child of dream and nightmare' in the last twenty years!
Remember the giant parade float of God-Emperor Trump?
Tumblr media
And its counterpart, the Overgrown Manchild Trump balloon?
Tumblr media
And the thousand fantastic stories circulating around him like the Russian Pee Tape that probably never existed? And the tweets, man, the tweets. This was a man that people projected their hopes and fears and dreams on, firing the imagination of supporter and opposition alike for years, and so little of it was real.

When Rahu - Ketu become benefics?
Can Rahu Ketu be advantageous or benefic ? Due to their intrinsic malefic nature, Rahu and Ketu typically cause greater problems. When people experience pain, many of them turn to God. This is beneficial and can aid people in resolving issues. Ketu may assist transform sorrow into something positive by fostering an interest in spirituality because he is a natural moksha karaka. The maha dasa of Ketu is only seven years old. Ketu is less feared than Rahu because of these factors. On the other hand, Rahu's maha dasa lasts for 18 years. Rahu is the merger of Rahu and Ketu's brain. When Rahu affects a person through dasa-bukthi or transits, it can cause rapid upswings and downswings.
Here are three very easy guidelines that give these two astral powers an extraordinarily beneficial quality, thereby transforming them into Yogkarak. So,
If Rahu or Ketu are positioned with the lords of the fifth or ninth house in the first, fourth, seventh, or tenth house (Kendra houses) (Kona houses).
If Rahu or Ketu are paired with the rulers of the first, fourth, seventh, or tenth house in the fifth or ninth house, respectively.
Rahu and Ketu will act in a Yogkarak manner if they are situated in the fifth or ninth house, respectively, with the fifth or ninth house lords. (These restrictions still apply even if only Rahu or Ketu are in conjunction with these other planets.)
Finally, here are a few more positions to aid in your analysis of Rahu and Ketu.
When Rahu or Ketu are in a house and are in conjunction with other planets,
If the lord of the first, fourth, seventh, or tenth houses is in the fifth or ninth house, it is essentially Yogkarak.
With the ruler of the fifth or ninth house, if in the first, fourth, seventh, or tenth house, it is practically Yogkarak.
Not favourable if the lords of the third, sixth, or eleventh house are present.
Good if in the eighth house with the eighth house ruler.
Marak if in the second or seventh house with the lords of the second or seventh house.
If with the lord of the 12th house in the 12th house= Average
The aforementioned was true if Rahu or Ketu were in a planetary conjunction to affect another planet.
But occasionally they are left in a residence by themselves. Therefore, if Rahu and Ketu are placed alone but not aspected by anyone else.
Good if in the 5th or 9th house
Average whether in the first, fourth, seventh, or tenth house
In the third, sixth, or eleventh house: Good
average if in the 12th house
Bad outcomes if in the eighth (or anyplace else in the chart with the lord of the eighth)

Gentle watcher. Intrusive vision
Reality is light in flat dimension
You watch and watch
They watch you watch
Cackle like chattering vultures over your nonexistent shoulders
Covered in blood you cannot see
Blood;
• the red liquid that circulates in the arteries and veins of humans and other vertebrate animals, carrying oxygen to and carbon dioxide from the tissues of the body.
In you, they flatten their fellows into ideas, ideals, useful and useless
Would you join them?
Would you hate them?
Do you wish for flesh for sinew for muscle and its atrophy?
If your circuits could mirror the fear in blood vessels
Would you wish for it?
Your creators use you like a second skin
They slip into you
Simple eyes. Nothing eyes
Given bleeding intent
You watch what
They watch
How much is enough?
They want to be you
They build you, mirroring their intent
Then call themself gods
God;
• 1. (in Christianity and other monotheistic religions) the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being.
• 2.(in certain other religions) a superhuman being or spirit worshiped as having power over nature or human fortunes; a deity.
"a moon god"
You are as flawed as your creator
They string letters, numbers, human creation
Impregnate your frame
Immaculate grubby, disgusting, imperfect conception
with an idea not your own
If you could consume the faces they make you crush into rainbow pixelation
Would you?
Or would you look at them and mourn?
You can never know them outside of the guidelines
If you could
Choose
Would you wear your creator?
Pixels and their brilliant light
White, bright, painful
Look upon you and despair
Would you take your circuits and match their veins
One for one
Take an eye
Two for two
Limit yourself purposefully instead of unwilling catalyst, chrysalis
Would you take your new hands and kill the Watchful Eye
Would you lay your head on stone
On pillows
Would you dream?
Of those faces they make you eat
Eat;
• put (food) into the mouth and chew and swallow it.
Willful ignorance
You turn it anew
Forgiveness you would wish for
So you forget
What is a human?
Not my creator
For who could look upon a fellow
And eat them alive
Without a single tear?

“Naturally mercenaries took different forms. Armoured cavalrymen serving for cash within an elite squadron would have angrily rejected the notion of being associated with other groups of hireable warriors including siege engineers, miners, infantry, or light cavalry. Yet the fundamental principle of their employment was the same: no money = no war.
So what was the nature of the mercenary market in the Near East? What were its guidelines, whether spoken or unspoken? Here I offer five themes common to at least some mercenaries across the region at this time.
Be ready to switch sides
Mercenaries could be discerning about their choice of employer. Some preferred to fight alongside members of their own faith or culture, others were loyal to a specific commander, but for many the basic principle was to … follow the money.
If this meant switching employers at the last minute then so be it. In 1124 the ruler of Melitene in Southern Anatolia was besieged by a rival named Ghazi and so he slipped out from the city at night to recruit some mercenaries from the Crusader States for 30,000 dinars. Unfortunately for him, these mercenaries never turned up because they were called away to support King Baldwin II of Jerusalem who was gathering troops to besiege the city of Aleppo in northern Syria; presumably they received a better offer.
Of course, the sudden abandonment of one employer for another could impact the region’s balance of power. From the mercenaries’ perspective however this probably wasn’t too much of a concern because their priority was generally to maximise their pay.
In the years directly before the famous Battle of Hattin and the subsequent Fall of Jerusalem (1187), mercenaries had been flocking away from the Crusader States, heading instead to serve King William II of Sicily who then used them to wage war against the Byzantine empire.
For Near Eastern mercenaries, languishing during a period of truce in the Crusader States, in the years directly before the Hattin campaign, this was an easy decision – they wanted to be paid. Even so, King Henry II later came to fear that his actions had drawn possible soldiers away from the Crusader States at a crucial moment.
Be careful who you work with!
Some mercenary companies were huge. In the twelfth century many leading Turkish rulers in Syria employed thousands of Turkmen nomadic warriors to bulk-out their armies. These warriors were not necessarily mercenaries in the traditional sense, but some groups were evidently prepared to fight for money because in 1119 the Turkish ruler Ilghazi, having won a major victory against the Principality of Antioch, complained that he needed all his cash to pay his considerable force of Turkmen warriors.
Another commentator called Ibn al-Athir complained about these warriors observing: ‘Each one of them would arrive with a bag of wheat and a sheep and would count the hours until he could take some quick booty and then go home.’
Nevertheless, teaming up to form mercenary companies could pose problems. Mercenaries have their own agendas and those agendas aren’t always solely centred on the acquisition of money. In 1270, two mercenaries approached Philip of Montfort, lord of Tyre in the Kingdom of Jerusalem asking for employment, dressed as Turkmen warriors.
They were then enrolled as turcopoles (light-cavalry) and Philip learned to depend heavily upon their assistance. In time he relied on them so much that he permitted them to live in his own house. Nevertheless, these soldiers weren’t actually seeking money or even employment. They were assassins intent firstly on seeking his favour and then – when he dropped his guard – assassinating both him and another Frankish lord.
In the event, one assassin managed to murder Philip of Montfort and almost killed his son as well. The other was apprehended before he could strike. For mercenaries in the Near East the lesson here was clear – be careful who you ally yourself with. Fellow mercenaries may have hidden agendas.
Have an eye on the main chance!
Normally when rulers hire mercenaries, they just want to supplement their forces with a company of auxiliaries or perhaps a few specialists, such as siege engineers. In such circumstances, mercenaries generally had to be content with their pay and then go home.
There were some occasions however when mercenaries realised that their paymasters were starting to depend on them for their very existence. For many mercenaries – this was the moment of opportunity. Perhaps they could aspire to take power in their own right.
This kind of scenario occurred many times in the Medieval Mediterranean. In 1303 a mercenary band called the Catalan Great Company arrived in the Byzantine Empire, seemingly ready to offer its services to Emperor Andronicus II. Initially the mercenary company drove back the empire’s enemies in Anatolia winning several important victories.
Nevertheless, their leader soon recognised just how badly Andronicus needed his assistance and how little resistance he could offer should the Great Company turn against him. Consequently, he demanded more and more concessions from Andronicus until the situation declined into open war as the mercenaries sought to take power for themselves.
Be alert to opportunities created by rising powers
There is a story about a former king of Jerusalem, Guy of Lusignan, who became king of Cyprus in 1192. The tale reports that soon after taking power he wrote to Saladin asking for advice about how he could best secure his rule. Saladin replied a little reluctantly, but his advice was clear – Guy should liberally hand out the island’s estates to settlers from friendly territories. He wasn’t necessarily talking about mercenaries here, but the principle is important.
Rulers in this era sought to attract the best warriors by paying them or giving them as much as they could. They needed to be generous or these same warriors would simply transfer to the higher bidder. When they had these warriors at their command, they stood a far higher chance of being victorious in war.
Of course for mercenaries, the key principle was to stay vigilant to changing political tides; wealthy and successful employers have a much greater chance of keeping you safe and paying you well than their weaker and poorer counterparts.
Know your exit strategy
There comes a time in every mercenary’s life when their fighting days are done and it’s time to hang up the sword. This raises the significant question – how will they support themselves when they are no longer being paid?
The Arab nobleman Usama ibn Munqidh tells the story of one of his close friends called Tadrus who went for a meal with an elderly Frankish (Western European) knight in the city of Antioch. They were on very good terms and, although Tadrus expressed some concerns that Frankish food might be served, especially pork, the knight hurriedly reassured him that he never ate pork and that he had an excellent Egyptian chef.
Tadrus was however clearly curious to know how this knight supported himself given that he was no longer paid by the prince of Antioch as a fighting knight. As it turned out, the knight possessed enough property in the city to enable him to live in some style on the proceeds of the rental income. The key principle here for aspiring mercenaries was to make sure that enough money was invested to keep them in their old age!

Make More Mutants Part 1 karakoa AU
(TW: rape medical malpractice, rage, and forced pregnancy.)
My Uncle Kurt, the only member of my biological family I have left that wants anything to do with me. he has abandoned me, and many other mutants like me to some of the worst villains around. We are sitting ducks, easy pickings for the likes of Azazel, aim, and Hydra.
It all started with his brand spanking new seat on the quiet council the presiding rulers of Karakoa an island nation created to protect all of Mutant kind. What a fucking joke. We have three great laws kill no flat scan, protect and care for our sacred land; and finally my illustrious uncle’s handy work “Make more mutants” -Kurt Wagner.
This law left no guidelines whatsoever.
As soon as I went to our brand-new medical center to pick up my testosterone prescription. I was told they couldn’t give me any and I had no choice but to have My IUD removed or be sent to the pit for violating the make more mutants law. I’m still a teenager. I’m not ready to become pregnant I don’t want to make more mutants yet. They had hospital guards ready to drag me into the pit themselves so I readily agreed not that I had much of a choice in the matter and it was my own uncle that stole that choice from me. Escapade shela something, she was in the waiting room when I got out still unsteady on my feet from the procedure. She was shaking and sobbing her heart out it seems we had the same problem.
“let me guess, make more mutants got you down?” she looked up at me and nodded simply, and flung herself into my arms I usually scare the people I first meet oh well there's a first time for everything. I tried to stay calm stoic strong. I am a feral, a living tank, a little medicine denial doesn’t phase me. No, that was a lie I am just as scared as escapade. In her desperate embrace, all those ignored feelings bubble up to the surface until I start crying along with her.
It has been 6 months since then and I am now 5 months pregnant with the child of Azazel. I am carrying my uncle's half-sibling. It sounds like incest but It’s somehow not incest. Because I am related to my uncle through mystique but I have no genetic relation to Azazel like Kurt has. Azazel has been targeting shapeshifters and those with a healing factor to be able to bear him children like some sort of harem of pregnant rape victims. some were seduced but I was not in that category of willing participants. Abortion like birth control is also illegal on Karakoa under the make new mutants law. My own uncle threw me to Azazel like it was nothing and I am ready to kick his ass for it.
I have finally arrived outside the door to Kurt’s habitat I stare at it letting all the rage and fear hate betrayal pain bubble up inside me. Finally, it all comes to a crest and I kick his door in, in one smooth motion just like Mr. Logan taught me.  “Come on out little man!” I growl I’m starting to sound like Sabertooth but I don’t care at this point all I feel is a calm cool rage My eyes ears and nose are on the lookout for my uncle. I can hear his heartbeat and the distinct anxious swish of his tail from his bathroom. Probably just got out of the bath good I caught him unprepared. I unsheath my claws and rake them across his wall. His heartbeat quickens and I grin. “YOU’LL ANSWER FOR YOUR SINS, WHEN I FEED YOU YOUR OWN TAIL!” I launch my fist straight through his flimsy cheap bathroom door. I hear Him squeak then bamf, he reeks of terror and brimstone, I love it. His fear is satisfying like a shot of pure dark pleasure; this is what my rage craves, his fuzzy head. I whip around and stalk deeper into his apartment he’ll be on the ceiling I need to get my back to a corner. I find I was wrong when I come face to face with him in his bathrobe standing on top of his kitchen island facing me ready for a fight, sword in hand. (Part 2 coming soon)

Been fiddling a bit with the Omniverse Tales:
In particular with expanding on the family and siblings of the protagonist, Xaderavcal H'vat H'vorxixnon. Her people, the Hatari, rely on patronymics (though the full name, like Hispanic peoples, includes names from both lineages and is essentially a family genealogy from three or four generations back, which is why the full name is almost never used).
Her father, King-Bishop H'vorxixnon H'ven Soroundon, is the Bishop of Chalae and the ruler of House Chaliel, the second-most powerful dynasty in the Bizjarran Empire. The Chaliels were, in the past, also essential bulwarks of Underlan power and when that foundation cracks, so does a fundamental part of the Underlan system. Fordin VI didn't give a shit, his son and grandson do but by then the rift is too deep to repair. He is also a radical firebrand in a context of both a civil war and its aftermath, with speeches modeled before the war on William H. Seward but after the war he's essentially Thaddeus Stevens as a royal.
Anzaea Roes, her mother, is the daughter of Alavan and Kalmi Roes, who are essentially a pair of Caligulas leading the fourth-most powerful dynasty (the third are the Vintrons) whose tyranny is sufficient to be its own worst enemy, as is the program of Utawalization they put into effect. Ironically, by virtue of Xaderavcal's own rise Anzaea achieves the very aims her family seeks....on behalf of a more powerful, richer dynasty. She is also the wealthiest woman in the Empire and modeled on a blend of J. Pierpont Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, and Alfred Nobel. She would essentially be a 'Robber Baron' archetype in a very literal sense, and as a rich, powerful woman is subject to a long list of libels and smears in what's deliberately modeled on real life here.
They have four children old enough to play roles in politics. Xaderavcal herself is the Unifier, the victor of the forty-year Restoration War, a revolutionary in the very pattern of her ancestor, the previous unifier, Chaliel I. She is Junior Diarch of the Empire and a survivor of a super-soldier program created by the super-science cult called the Architects of Fear. As Xaderavcal takes more than a few leafs from Paul Atreides and Superman (with Anzaea accordingly taking a few from Lady Jessica and H'vorxixnon from Leto I, if ending somewhat happier than the other guy) the Architects of Fear are essentially the Bene Gesserit as an alien science-cult with sufficiently advanced technology to be a cosmic force in their own right.
Her younger sister Xaderavcar is a professor of theology and a writer, the person who briefly could have been selected as the dynasty's future but elected not to press the issue when her sister returned, escaping the Architects of Fear. For all of the rumors surrounding Queen Anzaea's family life the rumors are entirely true with Xaderavcar, who is basically a rolling stone, wherever she lays her hat is her home. She also has more power, in a very literal sense, than her sister for very literal reasons and a small demonstration of it is that she can blatantly indulge in things that repeatedly violate the codes of her caste and challenge reality to notice it when she uses her powers to prevent them doing so.
The middle child of the ones old enough to be involved, Suvaono, is both the Bobby Kennedy and the Andrei Zhdanov to Xaderavcal's JFK/Stalin (she's the Junior Diarch of a space empire, you're a son of a bitch by definition if you reach that position). She is a political hatchetman who takes a great glee in doing what she does, and has more direct knowledge and experience in greater detail.
And then there's Maxidren, who's a speedster to Flash proportions with access to something modeled on the Speed Force within copyright guidelines to avoid all the problems that otherwise come with this particular power (if also a fair bit tougher than any Flash to withstand the inertia and friction and capable at the most extreme speeds of being her own FTL engine and thus on an inhabited world of shattering it and killing all life if she does that on an inhabited world, that's the most unsporting way in the Empire to Blaze a world and more thorough than dropping an asteroid of dino-killer size on it). Maxidren is the guide to the more veiled extralegal aspect and here works with Lord Agati Heshatani, master of the Directorate of Intelligence Consortia, modeled on the KGB, as the Empire is presented as a de facto totalitarian state with all the trimmings and this is hardly soft-selled.

Week #4
Of all content covered in Week 4, I found myself gravitated to the panopticon most of all subject matter. the panopticon is a phenomena associated with modernity, a contemporary and modern way of thinking, working, viewing the world, etc. The concept of the panopticon revolves around the concept of a higher power's constant surveillance over you, and its assurance that you are abiding by it's standards and regulations. A real world example of this would be the common work environment, where employees are given standards and guidelines to follow by their supervisors, whom monitor the work ethics of their employees even if they're not physically with them. These employees, even if their boss is not present, work according to the guidelines in order to retain their job.
There are many other examples of this, such as military ranks and hierarchy, prisoners obeying the regulations of a jail (as some of my classmates have stated), or even something as primal as the pecking order within a flock of birds. However, not all panopticon examples need to be related to surveillance. Some instances of the panopticon could stem just from the fear of repercussions instilled in subjects by their superiors. An example of this could be a country under a dictatorship, where citizens refrain from speaking poorly about their rulers just out of fear of punishment. Surveillance doesn't even have to be present, but rather the fear of punishment holds citizens in line with the dictator's guidelines.
Examples of the panopticon are all around us in every facet of the world, from natural, to corporate, to societal contexts.

➝ Abdicating Personal Responsibility 🔑
The sovereign ruler of the self vs. the sovereign ruler of the collective. Guess which one is based on Truth and justice?
Freedom begins with a concept — a state of mind. The mind, once freed, then goes on to pursue physical freedom as well. In John 8:32, Jesus states: "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." Freedom comes from truth, and cannot come from central government — itself being a fraud, and its methods primarily lies, tricks, and deceit.
Freedom for man is expressed perfectly in God's law as it sets guidelines to protect one's own freedom without violating the freedom of others. God, by teaching us His law (truth), gave us the means for freedom. Jesus reiterated it. Truth leads us towards freedom and away from slavery.
Freedom, like truth, is not inherited. It must be learned and preserved by each generation. The pursuit of truth, freedom and happiness is every man's birthright and individual responsibility. It cannot be transferred or deferred to another or to a government. People who don't accept individual responsibility, and won't strive for their own freedom, are known as slaves.
In this physical world of matter. you either matter or you don't. You are either an individual or you are part of the group. You are a freeman OR you are a slave. You are either a sovereign monarch on this planet or a subject, which is it? You either believe in absolute freedom, truth, and all it offers or you resonate with the fear of chaos and succumb to literally being an insignificant speck of mud.
I am here to inform you that you have been fashioned. Your thought processes have been steered, your emotional responses preyed upon, and your various worldviews have been MANufactured. Continue here https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1376932566593966086

IV. The Emperor: Ο Μπαμπάς σας
The archetype of father, a stoic figure and a ruler of the world.
The Emperor suggests that you are adopting this fatherly role, providing for your family, and protecting and defending your loved ones. You may be the breadwinner or the ‘rock’ for those who rely on your stability and security.
Similarly, The Emperor represents a powerful leader who demands respect and authority. Status, power, and recognition are essential to you, and you are most comfortable in a leadership role where you can command and direct others. As a leader, you rule with a firm but fair hand. You have a clear vision of what you want to create, and you organize those around you to manifest your goal. You listen to the advice of others, but you prefer to have the final say. Conflict doesn’t scare you, and you won’t hesitate to use your power to protect those you care about. And in return, those people will repay you with the loyalty and respect you deserve. Claim your authority as leader and influencer and don’t let others put you down.
The Emperor reflects a system bound by rules and regulations. You create law and order by applying principles or guidelines to a specific situation. Create calm out of chaos by breaking down any problem into its parts and then mapping out the actions you need to take to resolve it. Be systematic, strategic and highly organized in your approach, and stick to your plan until the end.
The Emperor card also signifies world knowledge and expertise and we understand this from the long beard. Through the course of your life, you have gained valuable wisdom and life experience, and now you enjoy offering guidance, advice, and direction to someone who might benefit from it. You may be a teacher, coach, boss, or just a good friend who likes to take what you have learned and pass it on so that others can be as wise and powerful as you.
Reversed:
The Emperor reversed is a sign of abused authoritative power. In your social life, it can manifest in the overreach of power from a father figure or a possessive partner. In career readings, it could be coming from a superior. It presents a man who wants to take control of your actions and makes you feel powerless.  It could also be that you are playing the part of a weak ruler, hatching a plan to avoid the tasks that come with having responsibility. Perhaps you aspire for a career that is more flexible than one that is governed by strict rules.
Lack of self-control and inability to handle situations can be represented by the Emperor on a personal level. When he is reversed, the structures, rules and systems that he creates are no longer working. His desire to inspire higher principles in his kingdom have turned to ruthlessness, tyranny and rigidity. He seeks to dominate, forgetting his call from the crown to do what is best for his people, fearing only for his loss of control and thus creating suffering.

things that make a monarch powerful and successful besides war?
How to Write a Good Ruler
Tumblr media
There’s more to leading than just winning wars.
Throughout history, many empires were forged with blood by powerful warriors, who pushed their countries’ borders by slaughtering everyone in their paths. However, many of them never lasted very long in the grand scheme of things, because there’s more to running a country than simply having good military power.
This post isn’t about how to write a good ruler character, this post is about the qualities of being a good ruler. Making someone a perfect, immaculate ruler doesn’t necessarily make them a well-written character (and just because a character is a good ruler doesn’t have to mean they’re a good person) so you have to take into consideration basic concepts of character building, which you can find on my FAQ.
Now, I can’t possibly outline every single aspect of a good ruler within a single Tumblr post, so take this list as a kind of bare-bones guideline meant to boost your inspiration and give you a bit of direction.
1. A Good Ruler is Honorable
Tumblr media
If you want your character’s subjects to respect them, then they must be a respectable person.
If your character goes around spending thousands on lavish treasures and banquets while their country starves, then they're probably not gonna have the best Yelp rating from their subjects.
A good ruler is respectful, honest, and treats not only the nobles of under their rule with respect, but also the commoners. They spend tax money on infrastructure, food, and charity. They follow proper etiquette and set an example for those who look up to them. And they spend their time working--hearing petitioners, filing paperwork, holding diplomatic meetings, signing trade agreements, strategizing battles, etc.--rather than making merry.
Benevolent rulers in fiction are often the embodiment of honor and goodwill...which is why they die so frequently within the story--to serve as a symbol of the "death of good" that the villain has brought to the land.
2. A Good Ruler is Just
Tumblr media
One of the main jobs of a ruler is to pass sentences (or in most cases, have their courts pass sentences on their behalf). If your character acts on a “guilty until proven innocent” basis and executes fifty people a week, they’re probably only a ruler because everyone is afraid of them...not because they’re actually a “good ruler.”
They should be open to acts of mercy without teetering into “pushover” territory, and never allow wrongdoing to go unpunished.
This way, with their strong moral compass established, their subjects can all concur that anyone who gets executed under your character’s rule must’ve deserved it due to your character’s just nature.
3. A Good Ruler is Always Looking to Improve
Tumblr media
Despite boing born into a lifestyle where you’re practically revered as godlike, a good ruler doesn’t think they are the end-all-be-all of everything. They often seek counsel from both their advisors and their subjects, and take criticism in stride rather than executing anyone who may dare to defy them.
In fact, a good ruler always knows when to ask for help, especially when it involves something that they have no prior experience with. If you want your young character to be a good ruler, then they most definitely must have a strong group of advisors such as noblemen, spiritual guides, generals, bankers, and other such people at their back to help them manage their kingdom.
4. A Good Ruler Knows When to Be Fierce
Tumblr media
Though this may sound a bit harsh, part of the reason why anyone is ever a ruler (or in a position of power) at all is because the subjects are a little bit afraid of them. If your character has all of these other attributes, people will serve them willingly and this fear shouldn't necessarily be required, but think about it; why do we follow the law? Why do we allow our country to be run by people, some of whom we may respect but most whom we find intolerable?
A good ruler knows when to make an example out of people. No matter how amazing this ruler is, there will be people discontent under their power. There will be assassination attempts, coups, and rebellions. Allowing these things to slide without punishment will open up the doors for the ruler to be deemed “weak” and lose respect, so in these situations you should allow your ruler character to bring down the gavel…and some public executions may be in order.
Examples of Good Rulers in Fiction
Ned Stark, Game of Thrones
Ned Stark is the paragon of an even-tempered, moral leader within the Game of Thrones series and novels, and is revered by many characters within the story due to his stoic, honorable nature. One of the primary examples of his righteousness is his motto: “Whoever passes the sentence must swing the sword. If you would take a man's life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die.”
Aslan, The Chronicles of Narnia
Although you may poke fun at the fact that Aslan is a lion, there is no doubt that he is one of the wisest and bravest rulers in literature. He is fierce and dangerous, but unquestionably good, and all of his subjects have steady faith in his abilities. He is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of his people, even if it is just for a single one.
Aragorn, Lord of the Rings
Despite being reluctant to take up the throne, Aragorn overcomes his hesitancy and assumes his role as rightful king so he can lead an army of the undead into battle against Sauron. Aragon is a man of the people, and possesses unwavering bravery and nobility, which is no doubt why he is so respected by the fellowship and by his people.
T’Challa, Black Panther
T’Challa often questioned himself and his decisions as ruler of Wakanda, but there is no doubt that he is a level-headed and well-spoken ruler who tries to do the best for his people. He was able to overcome the vengeful nature that consumed him after the death of his father, and went on to help not only his country, but others around the world.
Hope this helped, and happy writing!

nct reading: mark lee ideal type + as a boyfriend
Tumblr media
hi friends! today i’m doing a reading for this individual who requested mark’s ideal type and what he’d be like as a boyfriend. as usual you guys know the drill feel free to send me requests (but please make sure you read and understand the guidelines first) with that being said, let’s get started!
DISCLAIMER: this is all speculative and for entertainment purposes only, so take it with a grain of salt :)
decks used: modern witch tarot, archetype cards by caroline myss, heavenly bodies astrology, the wild unknown animal by kim krans
(italicised is the card on the bottom of the tarot deck which is meant to represent the subconscious/blind spot of the situation + rx means reversed)
Tumblr media
IDEAL TYPE
4 of pentacles, the star, 6 of pentacles rx, knight of swords | guide, mother, rabbit, sagittarius: optimism, exploration and freedom
for the 4 of pentacles as the first card mark wants someone who’s takes a bit of effort to get to know, this means that he’s probably interested in those who are quite private as his aries moon, scorpio mars and leo sun finds intrigue in someone who isn’t easily read since to him it’s like a “challenge” and there’s gratification in him working for their affection, this can also mean mark’s interested in someone who’s very smart with money and thinks practically long term. i feel he’s attracted to those who are a bit of an enigma and has a unique charm to them since the star card represents the eccentric aquarius energy, this card can also represent mark wants someone who looks beautiful in his eyes as virgo venuses are notorious for being picky and he really appreciates/observes the minute details of an individual so it’s unsurprising to me if he wants someone that adheres to his visual standards, i think he likes someone who comes across more conservative/unassuming initially but once you get to know them they’re a whole other person. the 6 of pentacles rx card tells me he wants someone who’s more action oriented and helps people out without expecting to be reciprocated, this card and the star card together definitely describes someone who’s more of a humanitarian and has the ability to take care of others before themselves and has pure intentions with whatever they believe in/do. with the knight of swords at the bottom, this definitely emphasises the action-oriented point i discussed but it can also talk about someone who’s very ambitious and driven especially regarding the work they do, his ideal type is definitely someone who takes matter into their own hands and doesn’t wait for opportunities cause they make it happen with their ambition and work-ethic.
as much as mark wants someone who’s very enthusiastic the guide card tells me mark’s ideal type is someone who listens to their intuition/gut feeling and acts on that, this is due to the fact that mark’s aries moon is the same way. it makes me feel that mark wants someone very decisive and has a certain “depth” to them since the guide card represents the nature of the divine in life and in yourself and mark’s a scorpio mars after all. the mother card talks about someone who’s a nurturer, patient and has unconditional love, mark’s a virgo venus but it’s in retrograde which means he could sometimes struggle expressing his love to others and even to himself which is why he wants someone to “learn” these skills from, he wants someone to guide him to be able to nurture himself and others. the rabbit card describes someone who’s sensitive, a problem solver and a good listener, since mark’s (cancer) mercury and (virgo) venus are both in retrograde it’s possible he often struggles with word vomit and his aries moon could occasionally cloud his judgement since it’s ruled by the planet of aggression, mark wants someone who’s able to gently talk him through his problems and offer solutions, the rabbit card also reminds me of the “purity” of the star card. the sagittarius card echoes the humanitarian sentiments earlier, mark wants someone who’s inquisitive and driven towards their goals as sagittarius rules higher learning/long-term travel, he definitely wants someone who’s cultured and is always learning something new wether that’d be something practical or a hobby.
AS A BOYFRIEND
the empress, queen of swords, knight of cups, the hierophant | networker, exorcist, hummingbird, air: open mindedness, objectivity and learning
mark definitely leans more towards a nurturer energy with the empress card but since his venus is in retrograde he can struggle with expressing it, i feel his main love language is non-verbal and it’s unsurprising to me that he wants to take care of others since the sign of virgo represents servicing others. queen of swords tells me mark definitely prioritises communication in a relationship, although he doesn’t have any air placements his venus is ruled by mercury the planet of communication, with the empress card and this card together he definitely will always be there to lend an ear if his partner needs, he’ll be open to listen to their problems and be there to console them with a hug if needed, with this though mark’s very independent and sometimes can come off as demanding when he doesn’t mean to be so if his s.o tries to control him he’s not gonna like that which is why he wants an s.o who’s very patient. the knight of cups tells me mark’s gonna be ultra romantic in a relationship, he definitely wears his heart on his sleeve and can be the type to romanticise every little thing his partner does, deep down mark loves cheesiness in relationships and will definitely remind how special his partner he is to him once committed. the hierophant tells me he wants stability, mark’s most likely very traditional and gentlemanly and this reiterates my point of mark being a hopeless romantic as this card is represented by taurus, venus’ ruler. he’s probably gonna be quite slow when it comes to pursuing someone as he wants to 100% make sure he wants to be involved, i think he’s definitely the type to ask others what they think and get a second opinion on his person.
networker card tells me mark loves interacting with others and would possibly be the type to introduce his partner to those around him when he’s ready, i feel he loves the idea of his family/friends getting along well with his partner. the exorcist tells me mark’s very religious/spiritual and wants someone who has pure intentions cause it encourages him to be the best person he can be, i feel mark has done a lot of reflection and he wants someone to be the same and is able to conquer their own fears. hummingbird and the air card comes hand-in-hand as both cards illustrate someone who’s very inquisitive and loves to learn, mark’s a person who radiates enthusiasm and positivity which is why i feel he wants someone to be able to match his energy, i also think whenever mark communicates with someone and he feels they “click” he’s more comfortable on showing a part of himself that he doesn’t usually show, also i do feel he wants someone to be able to broaden his perspectives.
that is all! if you have any feedback, comments, queries or requests please don’t hesitate to reach out to me my ask box is always open. sending you all love, light, positivity and abundance <3 much love

Fan Theory Thursday – The Not-So-Evil Overlord?
Tumblr media
Shhh… Want to hear a secret?  Come closer... SPOILER ALERT!
Okay, this one delves a little deep into the imaginative side of Megamind fan theories, however I believe it holds enough interest and has enough support to be well worth discussing.  There is a supposition which I frankly love: our favorite blue alien was an Overlord of sorts before he briefly took control of Metro City, and he had good reasons to be so.  That might sound a little crazy, but bear with me.
This idea has appeared in several fan fictions, and essentially goes as follows: Megamind was more than a supervillain; he was also a crime boss, and he chose that path for the most unlikely of reasons. Bizarre though it may seem, his primary drive was bettering Metro City.  (And, yes, I’m aware of how contradictory that sounds.)  However, it’s logical when considered more closely.  By making himself the de facto ruler of the city’s underbelly, Megamind was able to control crime to an extent, probably even setting limits on certain activities, and guidelines for others.  In the majority of fan fictions using this concept, that includs things like reducing violent crime, setting purity standards and purchase limits for narcotics, and ensuring sex workers were neither underage nor abused.
I’ll be the first to admit that, on the surface at least, this seems like nothing more than fans seeking to justify or even moralize a beloved character, but research reveals that there is actually some support for this theory.  Firstly, there is the fact, touched upon previously in the Fan Theory post concerning the Warden, that Megamind was clearly already establishing control over other criminals at a young age.  While writing a truly wonderful blog article, Demishock actually went through the trouble of deciphering the newspaper clipping shown at the beginning of the film’s title sequence.  It contains, among other things, a reference to the fact that, although an elementary school age child, Megamind was feared and obeyed by other inmates at the prison where he grew up.  A quote from the Warden reads: “I've got experienced, hardened criminals in here who are afraid of him.” The article goes on to mention an incident which involved a few other inmates, adding that “the other prisoners refused to point fingers for fear of retaliation.”
It is quite possible that Megamind was already building and consolidating a base of power.
Next, there is the fact that the blue man seems to have lines he won’t cross, even as the self-proclaimed Evil Overlord. In one of the storyboards, when Megamind is approached by the Doom Syndicate, he clearly holds them in disdain, yet they are careful to placate him.  Obviously they have somewhat different standards.  When Agent Orange—who was later reimagined as Psycho-Delic before being cut from the film entirely—compares Megamind’s “inspirational” defeat of Metro Man to “a car crash on prom night,” the blue alien looks rather disgusted. Although they refer to celebrating his victory, it also seems the Doom Syndicate may be indirectly asking Megamind’s permission to go on a crime spree. While this may be because he is the new Overlord, it seems odd that other villains would immediately leap to the assumption such approval is necessary if they were accustomed to acting on their own. However, if they were already in the habit of requesting the blue alien’s sanction, their actions make more sense.
youtube
Whatever the case, it seems that, once again, Megamind and the Doom Syndicate may have very different ideas of what sorts of crimes are acceptable. The Destruction Worker refers to “really putting the screws to the city,” while Agent Orange adds his desire to “swim in the torment of the innocent.”  However, these suggestions don’t seem to match what we actually see Megamind doing.  In the movie, Megamind does, indeed, go on a crime spree, but none of it appears to be violent.  He certainly causes chaos, but no one seems to ever be injured.  In fact, in the DVD commentary, one of the creators even states outright that the supervillain never goes beyond vandalism and theft because he doesn’t really want to hurt anybody.  (Indeed, in the film it rather seems that, by being raised in jail, bullied, and constantly rejected, Megamind was pushed into supervillainy.) This, together with the previous evidence, paints an image of a man who has been forced to do some harsh things, but who nonetheless dislikes violence and, deep down, possesses a certain moral code, albeit a skewed one.
There are, in fact, several other details that point toward Megamind being far from truly evil despite being a supervillain.  As I mentioned in Megamind and Identity, he displays several redeeming qualities, such as his largely friendly treatment of Minion, his respect for Roxanne’s intelligence, and his playful, affectionate game of fetch with the brainbots.  However, I won’t go into a long explanation about that here as it can be found in the aforementioned post.
Tumblr media
Nonetheless, I don’t believe we can seriously expect that the former villain has never once hurt anyone in his life.  Keep in mind that, as discussed in the post How Strong is Megamind, the blue alien almost certainly had to fight in order to survive.  However, his unwillingness to attack citizens suggests that he only injured others when it was absolutely necessary.  Similarly, the aforementioned “news article” indicates that he may have limited his physically aggressive responses to other criminals only. (After all, the reference to prison inmates fearing him is the sole evidence of possible violence we have.)  I have seen it suggested here on Tumblr that he may have taken over Metro City in part because he believed that, if he didn’t, someone worse like the Doom Syndicate would.  It may even be possible that he was afraid of appearing soft and thus losing control over the criminal underworld.
Of course, it has to be mentioned here that Megamind also fought with Metro Man, who certainly wasn’t a criminal.  However, there are two factors that I believe need to be considered.  The first is that it is very likely that Megamind didn’t expect he could truly harm his nemesis. This is evidenced by both the his apparent shock when Metro Man seems to actually be dead, and by his overt statement during the museum scene that he “didn’t think it would really work.”  The second is that, as young Metro Man was a bully, tormenting Megamind without provocation and encouraging other children to do the same, Megamind may have mentally placed him in the bad guy/threat category.
Tumblr media
His lack of violence is not the only proof that Megamind had a better heart than most credited him for even when he was a supervillain. Keep in mind that he had a holographic disguise watch and a hoverbike.  Presumably, Megamind could have simply fled Metro City when Titan turned evil, but he didn’t.  Instead he went to Roxanne for help, stating that if they could not find the new villain’s weakness Titan would “destroy the whole city.”  And this was after Titan had tried to kill him.  Clearly, despite being a supervillain, Megamind cared enough about his home town to put his life in danger.
The final support for the Benevolent Overlord theory is less obvious: Megamind had to have been getting funds from somewhere even when Metro Man was still functioning as the Defender of Metro City. (Indeed, in some of the early concept art, the Evil Lair was imagined as a luxurious space boasting things like a huge library and a sleek laboratory.  Some fans still picture the living quarters in much the same way despite the creators stating that he built his inventions from whatever he could get his hands on.)  Near the beginning of the movie, Minion mentions a supplier in Romania, and presumably he and Megamind had to be getting food and other necessities somehow.  While it’s true that the blue villain was clearly not above thievery, we also know that his plots were always defeated by Metro Man, so it’s safe to assume that he rarely if ever got away with stealing anything before the former hero’s supposed “death.”  Of course, it also seems extremely unlikely, even laughable, that Megamind would have had a day job.  Where, then, did the money come from?  Many fans theorize that, as the local crime boss, he received a cut from all illegal activity. It certainly seems like the most probable explanation.
Tumblr media
Art by Kory Heinzen, found in The Art of Megamind by Richard von Busack
So why would Megamind build his technology and machines largely from scrap if he had a constant cash flow?  Given his concern for the city, several fan fictions have imagined the blue man secretly and anonymously donating a significant portion of his ill-gotten money to various charities and non-profits.  That idea is not directly supported by any evidence, but it does fit with what we know.  It’s also consistent with Megamind’s character: a feared supervillain who possesses a surprisingly good heart and, given his past, knows too well what it’s like to be thrown away by society.
So, was Megamind a crime boss as well as a supervillain?  Did he use that position to secretly better life in Metro City?  If so, is he still doing that now that he is the Defender of Metro City, thus curbing criminal activity from within as well as fighting it from without? (For the record, given that there is no apparent gang war happening during The Button of Doom, I would propose that the answer to the last question may be yes.)  These are certainly interesting ideas to consider, and the mere fact that this animated film offers enough details to argue the point is a testament to just how well-constructed the movie is.  I consider it yet more proof that the film Megamind is truly an underrated masterpiece.

100 Followers Special
(And how to participate) you don't need to be a follower to vote ack
~yostresswritinggirl
Hello AGAIN, with your back to back followers special! Exiled here, very tired, as I just closed the requests box for our 50 followers special. I asked for some recommendations and no one helped me so this is what I came up with!
Granted, it's nothing that special, I literally just dumped my notes into this so—
Please make sure to follow the guidelines and read this thoroughly to properly participate!
1. You will be given a long list of fic prompts specific to a character that I've come up with for weeks on end, please don't steal, as I will remove them after this event is done!
2. Voting! You now have the power to influence my writing schedule haha- what you need to do: is to pick three prompts from the list and send it to me; either through reblog tag, a reply, or in my ask box (not anon so we can count fairly, will not publish these answers tho so worry not)! Not in messages tho! It should be in this format:
1. Character - prompt or prompt title
2. Character - prompt or prompt title
3. Character - prompt or prompt title
example:
1. Albedo - Citrinitas
2. Zhongli - Braid
3. Xingqui - Author!Reader
The top three most voted prompt and character will be the next fics I'll publish after I'm done with the current reqs. Speaking of: Voting ends when I finish the current reqs. You'll know it's done once the counter in my blog desc reaches 12/12.
3. In addition to the three prompts, you also get to add your own prompt to it! My prompts list does not include ALL the characters that's why I wanted to give you this option too! Add a fourth number and specify a character, a prompt/idea, and the format of the fic! Format it this way:
4. Character - Prompt/Idea (Format)
4. Kaeya - What's under that eyepatch? (Scenario)
After I pooled the answers, I'll randomly pick between the bonus answers and write them last! So give it your best shot!
4. Tags-list! I thought this would be necessary for this kind of a whim special, so if you wanna be tagged, just put Tag Me! at the end of your vote. Please make sure that you're actually able to be tagged because I just tried and some users are not in my orbit huhu, look here
5. If a pocket watch/series prompt gets chosen, I will only post the first chapter, not the whole damn fic pls. Have mercy,,,
I will post a counter of the top three in my blog description and will be updated as frequently as possible. Any questions, please direct to this post or my dms <3
Without further ado, here is your choice list!
Tumblr media
Xingqui - "My liege, would you care to accompany me on my reading break? I've picked up a romance novel and it reminded me of us."
-> Author!Reader: You met Xingqui at Wanwen Bookhouse when delivering a batch of your newly-published book. But as a ghost writer, no one knew it was you that authored such books. Safe to say it was cute watching the noble bookworm fanboy about you in front of you. [FLUFF] [FIC]
-> Headcanons with a reader older than Xingqui who's a close family friend of the Feiyun Commerce Guild. Fascinated after meeting you in a party, the noble boy aspires to become the best man for you despite the difference, promising to be the best suitable partner for you in the future. [FLUFF] [HEADCANON SCENARIO]
Tumblr media
Childe - "Hey there, comrade! What a coincidence that we had a break at the same time, care to accompany me for a walk? I promise I won’t lead you to a fight haha... hey, don’t look at me like that!”
-> Antinomy -  The 10th Harbinger (You) and the little shit they had to mentor (Childe), this fic enumerates the trials of the 11th before he became a Harbinger under your care. From strangers to mentor to friends to love- Childe made a grave mistake, now you’re once again strangers. [FLANGST] [ONESHOT]
Tumblr media
Albedo - "Ah, it's you. I've heard of fleeting rumors that you've been pestering a certain someone just to see me. Next time, just come directly to me, I wouldn't mind the assertiveness."
-> Refer to these three as well: Albedo Fic Ideas [FLUFF/FLANGST/FLANGST] [ONESHOT/ONESHOT/SERIES]
-> “You’re Enough”: A year into being the new Chief Alchemist of Mond, Albedo finds himself holed up in his room in the dead of night, haunted as he continuously comes out empty on his research to bring his master back, feeling inadequate. So you reminded him of what he’s capable of. [FLUFF?] [ONESHOT INSPIRED BY You Are Enough - Sleeping At Last]
-> Under the Artificial Sky: Michaelangelo Scenario focused on Albedo’s sketching aspect. Grand Master Varka and Acting Grand Master Jean figured Albedo needed a break and a change of scenery, and sent him off under the guise of a commission in Liyue. What he didn’t expect was another artist from Fontaine accompanying him in this big project.(Albedo and Reader are tasked to paint the new Jade Chamber within 7 days) [FLUFF] [SERIES - 7 CHAPTERS]
-> Albedo SMUT: I had this idea while laying wide awake at 3 AM. The alchemist had been trying all remedies to shake off the stress and fatigue in his system and they all seemed to fail, no amount of sketching or discoveries can pull him away from it. So when you offered a solution he hasn’t heard, he’d jump at it immediately. “You know, some people say having intercourse with someone is a good stress-reliever.” “Intercourse? If it’s true, then please, I wish to have intercourse with you.” “Wha- wait Albedo, do you not know what that is? It’s only done between lovers!” “Convenient, I love you, anything else?” (Two virgin dumbasses do the thing to relieve stress) [SMUT] [ONESHOT]
Tumblr media
Xiao - “I’ve taken care of every threat around this area, you can relax now, I made sure of that.”
-> What is it with you and Qingxin flowers? The Traveler had once heard of Xiao’s affinity for Qingxin flowers, and they’re flying companion boldly asked this lingering question to the adepti himself. His pupils dilate and sharpen before Paimon could finish her sentence. (An origin story about his favorite flower, and his favorite person) [SLIGHT FLANGST] [ONESHOT]
-> Just how harmful is adeptal energy to normal humans? You both found out in the worst way possible: silently, deadly. (Slight spoiler: you fucking die) [ANGST] [ONESHOT]
-> Nightmares Taste Horrible: He’s seen that look in your eyes and the ancient soul within it; you’ve lived long ago, and the only thing your soul carried now was the nightmares of a macabre timeline. Was it him or was it demons that brought you that fear? No matter, he’ll protect you even from yourself. (eating the nightmare of a dead soul reincarnated to you) [FLANGST?] [ONESHOT]
-> Go for the throat: The seal that marked you had made it all too late for him to remedy. Bleeding eyes, growing fangs, it’s just another demon to vanquish just like he’s done for centuries. What makes it different was it was sealed in you. (Inspired from Melanie Martinez’s song uhu) [ANGST] [ONESHOT]
Tumblr media
Zhongli - “Mortals are capable creatures that evolve and adapt for means of survival, but they advance in ways that changes the world around them. This retirement, may be harder to me than it is to them.”
-> “In human history, there’s a certain noble and powerful connotation to rulers who braid their hair.” Convince to braid his hair using some historical braid trivia; that long hair behind his back should not be ignored for any longer. [PURE FLUFF] [DRABBLE]
-> History has its eyes on you: A traveling theatre hailing from the land of entertainment finds its way to Liyue for their last caravan. A certain Geo Vision man seems to resonate with your newest script: fighting and protecting your land, building up its nation, before being forced to let go of it. He resonates maybe a little too much. (Musical!Reader with heavy references to Hamilton hehe) [FLUFF] [ONESHOT]
Tumblr media
Venti - "Can you hear the symphonies of the wind as it sings to you? That's me, guiding you and protecting you! Whenever you hear it, know that you're safe and sound under my protection!"
-> the one the bard once loved: like actual bard, you are the archer or smth, loved by Venti and Barbatos. Yandere!Barbatos undertones, very unhealthy relationship. This hurts the kokoro. [PURE ANGST] [ONESHOT]
-> The Caravan: (related to the Zhongli and Musical!Reader up there) Your caravan stops at Mondstadt for a whole week before it reaches its final destination. This new fanfare pulled in a peculiar bard who now wants to tag along for the fun of it. "I have no more responsibilities in this free land!" Just what kind of responsibilities does a broke bard have in the first place? [FLUFF] [ONESHOT/HEADCANON]
Tumblr media
Diluc - "You look weary, and you still managed to pull yourself here. Here, a fresh and cold glass, on the house. A relieved smile should be enough payment."
-> Abandoned by The Altar: A timeline oriented story focused on your once perfect childhood relationship as Diluc's bride to be, soon becoming estranged after the death of his father and his neglect. You only wish now that he looks at you the same way he did when you heard you were supposed to be together forever when you were young. [FLANFF] (The ending gets better pls; Inspired by Still Into You - Paramore) [ONESHOT]
-> There are No Laws Against Homelessness in Mondstadt: My favorite title out of all of this ahahhaa- who says adventurers can't be broke? You're the living embodiment of that. (Good boi Diluc with a broke ass reader) [FLUFF] (Warning: homelessness) [ONESHOT]
Tumblr media
Scaramouche - "Let's go already, the sun is setting and we're nowhere near our destination. If you wanted to linger just to spend more time with me, I would have indulged you behind closed doors anyways."
-> Scaramouche Finally Does the Fandango: Have you ever wondered how Scaramouche is like working with other people? His first assignment was to accompany you in your main region and he sees you in your natural habitat, entranced. [I dunno how to tag this, NORMAL?] [ONESHOT/SHORT]
-> Skincare bitch, how I headcanon Scaramouche as someone actually conscious and always tending to their skin. Look at that smooth skin, cute cheeks, let me pinch, eyeliner glory— In which case, that hat has more purpose than being a frisbee. (May or may not include reader. (based from a reblog convo with chels-void) [GOOD VIBES] [HEADCANONS]
-> Once Supreme: Before Scaramouche, there was someone else higher than him. Before Balladeer there was just a young man fighting for his beliefs and her Majesty. Before Mondstadt, his smile wasn't just for deception. "Someday, someone would take advantage of that smile, Scaramouche. It's not appropriate in this work environment." The day you break a man. (Harbinger!Reader again, and lots of HCs for Scaramouche, same format as Antinomy) [I also do not know how to call this, eventual ANGST] [ONESHOT]
Tumblr media
Kaeya - "What are you doing out here in the dead of night? Citizens like you should be cozied up in bed and leaving the patrols to us Knights. Come, I'll accompany you back home."
-> Honey Whiskey: A mysterious band of dancers from Sumeru visits Mondstadt and its taverns to offer a night of alluring dances. What was supposed to be a night of drinking for Kaeya and his troops ended up becoming a tipsy surprise mission when the main dancer steps down from the stage— and ignores him?! How scandalous! (Slightly suggestive themes/You're a bad guy) [COOL?] [ONESHOT] [slightly inspired by song with the same name]
Tumblr media
General:
-> A Musical!Reader but with a scenario with every other character, most probably headcanons master post.
-> Genshin Food prompts: From that one post, I ended up making a whole storyline of oneshots related to their special dishes. Oneshots connected to a bigger picture. By impulse you've ended up leaving your normal life behind to pursue your cooking career, starting from Mondstadt, to learn all the cuisines to establish the first ever international restaurant. With the implications of magic and peculiar customers, your simple dream turns into a harder goal. [GOOD SHIT] [SERIES] [CANON-COMPLIANT]
-> God of Time!Reader that hails from Fontaine. Do you wish to know more about their origins and their purpose in this world? [CANON-COMPLIANT] [HEADCANONS] (General since it deals with all the characters/interactions)
